WHILE DRIVING, CONSUMER HIT A SEMI-TRACTOR AND THEN INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. AFTER ALL OF THESE COLLISIONS NEITHER OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE DRIVER SURVIVED THE ACCIDENT WITH MINOR INJURIES.*YH
ENGINE STALLS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AT 10-DEGREE ANGLE OR GREATER. OCCURS REGARDLESS OF FUEL LEVEL OR ENGINE TEMPERATURE. THE VEHICLE MUST BE MOVED TO A LEVEL POSITION TO BE RESTARTED. HAZARDOUS OR DEADLY IN HOT WEATHER TO UNATTENDED OCCUPANTS OR AT RAILROAD CROSSINGS AND INTERSECTIONS. *NLM
MY FORD EXPEDITION WAS PURCHASED IN AUGUST OF 2001. BY NOVEMBER OF '01 THE BATTERY HAD DIED. TO SHORTEN THE STORY, I HIT THE HIGHLIGHTS. BASICALLY IT WAS DETERMINED BY MYSELF AND FORD THAT IF THE VEHICLE WAS UNTOUCHED FOR MORE THAN 2 WEEKS, THE ACTIVE POWER DRAIN ON THE VEHICLE WAS SUBSTANTIAL ENOUGH TO DRAIN THE BATTERY. AFTER 9 INSTANCES OF TAKING THE VEHICLE TO FORD OVER A 3 YEAR PERIOD, TOWING THE VEHICLE IN, AND WORKING WITH THEM ON WHAT WAS WRONG, I WAS TOLD THAT TOP FORD ENGINEERS SAID IT WAS ACCEPTABLE THAT IF A FORD VEHICLE HAD A SUBSTANTIAL POWER DRAIN THAT IT WAS OKAY IF THE VEHICLE COULD HOLD A CHARGE FOR 2 WEEKS. BASICALLY ADMITTING FAULT AND TELLING ME IT WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO WORK AROUND THIS ISSUE BY INSTALLING A BATTERY CHARGER. SINCE THE EXPEDITION IS MY 2ND VEHICLE I ONLY DRIVE IT ONCE A MONTH OR SO. IF I DO NOT KEEP THE BATTERY CHARGED VIA EXTERNAL CHARGER THE BATTERY WILL DIE. ONE NOTE HERE IS THAT THE AMPERAGE DRAW TO GROUND ON THE VEHICLE AT ALL TIMES IS ENOUGH TO CAUSE SUBSTANTIAL SPARKING IF THE BATTERY CABLES ARE LOOSE OR REMOVED. THIS ALSO WAS DEEMED OKAY BY FORD. THIS CAUSES ME ENOUGH CONCERN THAT I WILL NOT PARK THIS VEHICLE IN THE GARAGE OF MY HOME DUE TO FEAR OF FIRE. BUT THE VEHICLE COST ENOUGH THAT I CAN'T SIMPLY REPLACE IT. I'VE NOTIFIED MANY FORD DEALERSHIPS AND CONTACTS INCLUDING CALLING, EMAILS, AND WRITTEN LETTERS ON THIS SUBJECT AND THEY SIMPLY ACCEPT THE FACT THAT THEY MANUFACTURE UNSAFE VEHICLES. HOPEFULLY THIS FORM WILL CAUSE STATISTICAL NOTIFICATION OF THEIR SHORTFALLS. *JB
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THE LEFT REAR TIRE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE SIDEWALL. THE TREAD STAYED INTACT WITH APPROXIMATELY 2 INCHES OF SIDEWALL EXTENDING FROM THE ACTUAL TREAD SURFACE. THE SEPARATION WAS CLEAN ON THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE, NOT TORN APART. THIS OCCURRED WITHOUT ANY WARNING AT 70 MPH, ALMOST CAUSING A ROLL OVER. THE AIR PRESSURE WAS CHECKED (BY ME PERSONALLY) THE PREVIOUS WEEKEND. ALL 4 TIRES WERE AT 35 PSI, AND NONE OF THE TIRES HAD EVER REQUIRED ADDING OF ANY AIR PRESSURE. THE TIRES HAD 4,600 MILES ON THEM AT THE TIME OF THE TREAD SEPARATION. THE DEALER WAS EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND REPLACED THE TIRE AND WHEEL WITHOUT QUESTION. THE EMPLOYEE AT THE DEALERSHIP WHO I DEALT WITH SAID THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE AND HE SEES IT ALL THE TIME. I TOLD HIM THAT IN 22 YEARS OF DRIVING THAT I HAVE NEVER HAD A TIRE SEPARATION EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE TO THIS. EVERY DAY WHEN I DRIVE TO WORK (12 MILES EACH WAY) I SEE AT LEAST 2 NEW TIRE TREADS ALONG THE FREEWAY THAT LOOK EXACTLY LIKE THE TREAD SEPARATION THAT WE EXPERIENCED. WE HAVE 6 PHOTOS OF THE TIRE, THE SEPARATED TREAD AND WHEEL, TAKEN ON THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT, IF NEEDED.*AK
2ND TIME SERVICE ALARM COMES ON FOLLOWED BY TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKES. REQUIRED ENGINE TO BE SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED BEFORE BRAKES WOULD FUNCTION. VERY VERY LUCKY THAT I HAD SPACE TO ACT AND THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC IN LANE. *AK
RECEIVED NOTICE 01V227001. CONTACTED DEALERSHIP. WAS INFORMED PARTS ON BACK ORDER SINCE AUGUST. MIDDLE ROW SEAT BELT IS GETTING WORSE. KEEPS POPPING OUT.*AK
WHILE WAITING AT STOP LIGHT WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKES VEHICLE SUDDENLY, WITHOUT WARNING, SURGED FORWARD 2-3 FEET. HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES, AND MECHANIC PLACED VEHICLE ON DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE. NO CODES APPEARED FOR SURGING PROBLEM. MECHANIC DID REPLACE AIR BY PASS VALVE, AND HAD REPROGRAMED PCM. *AK
LUGS: NUTS KEEP COMING LOOSE AND WILL NOT STAY TIGHT ON 2 OTHER FORDS OWNED BY DISTRICT. *AK
WHILE COMING TO A STOP OR YIELD CAR RESITED BRAKING, AND VEHICLE STARTED TREMBLING, CAUSING VEHICLE TO SHUT COMPLETELY OFF. VEHICLE TOOK 3-5 MINUTES BEFORE STARTING.*AK
COSCO EDDIE BAUER CHILD CARSEAT : MANUFACTURED 05/09/2000; MODEL # 02870EBG. RECEIVED AS A GIFT 06/2000 AND BEGAN USING APPX 11/2000. THIS SEAT HAS AN ARM/BAR THAT IS PART OF THE RESTRAINT SYSTEM. THE ARM BROKE WHILE DRIVING ON A LOCAL HIGHWAY. THE RESTRAINT WAS INTACT WHEN SON PLACED IN THE SEAT. AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES OF DRIVING (1/2 WAY INTO OUR TRIP) MY OLDER SON NOTICED THE ARM WAS LOOSE. THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ARM HAD SNAPPED AND WAS NO LONGER CONNECTED TO THE SEATBACK. THE JOINT IS LIKE A BALL AND SOCKET WITH A SPRING. I THOUGHT THE "BALL" OF THE ARM HAD COME OUT OF THE "SOCKET" OF THE SEATBACK, BUT IN FACT THE ARM HAD BROKEN BEFORE THE JOINT. THE PLASTIC COMPLETELY SNAPPED. MY SON THAT WAS IN THE CARSEAT IS ONLY 15 MONTHS OLD. IT AMAZES ME THAT A 15 MONTH OLD CAN BREAK PART OF A RESTRAINT SYSTEM AND IT SCARES ME TO THINK WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED HAD WE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE PURCHASED A NEW CARSEAT AND CHOSE A 5-POINT SYSTEM VS. A SEAT WITH AN ARM/BAR. I DON'T THINK THEY'RE SAFE. THANK YOU.*AK

WHEN THERE IS A GLARE THERE ARE A TON OF SPOTS ON WINDSHIELD AND IT DISTURBS CONSUMER WHEN DRIVING. CONTACTED DEALER WHO COULD NOT FIND CAUSE. *AK DEALER REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD, HOWEVER THE REPLACEMENT ALSO HAS SPOTS WHICH ARE ONLY SEEN DURING THE EARLY MORNING AND EVENING, THE DEALER IS WILLING TO REPLACE WITH ANOTHER BRAND OF GLASS, HOWEVER THE FORD REP DECLINED PAYMENT. *SLC
WHEN COMING TO A STOP ENGINE REVS AND VEHICLE JUMPS FORWARD EVEN WITH CONSUMER PRESSING ON BRAKES. VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP. *AK
SOME KIND OF SILVERY WHITE SUBSTANCE I POWDER, AND SOMETIMES PIECES WERE COMING OUT OF AIR CONDITIONER VENT. SUBSTANCE WAS MAKING FAMILY ILL WHEN RIDING IN VEHICLE. CONTACTED DEALER ,AND DEALER INSPECTED AND REPLACED HEATER CORE AND VACUUM PAD, BUT PROBLEM HAS COME BACK. PLEASE ADD VIN#*AK
THE VEHICLE ERUPTED IN FLAMES UPON IMPACT WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE AND BURNED ON THE SHOULDER. THE FIRE APPEARS TO HAVE STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THEN ENGULFED THE PASSENGER AREA. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE TO SUGGEST THAT THE OTHER TWO VEHICLES THAT WERE INVOLVED CAUSED THE CONSUMER VEHICLE TO CATCH FIRE.
WHENEVER VEHICLE HAS BEEN STARTED AND RUNNING FOR A MINUTE IT WOULD SUDDENLY CUT OFF FOR NO REASON. AT THE TIME THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE 1/4 TANK OF FUEL. VEHICLE NOT ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. ALSO, ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS SHUT DOWN. HAVE TAKEN TO DEALER TWICE & MECHANIC COULD NOT LOCATE CAUSE OF PROBLEM.*AK
VEHICLE ON SLIGHT SLOPE WHEN 5 YR OLD SHIFTED GEAR LEVER TO NEUTRAL. VEHICLE BEGAN TO MOVE FORWARD AND HIT A PEDESTRIAN , PINNING HER AGAINST ANOTHER VEHICLE. OWNER'S MANUAL INDICATED THAT VEHICLE COULD NOT BE SHIFTED UNLESS FOOT IS ON BRAKES. TOOK VHEICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC INFORMED OWNER THAT BRAKE LIGHT MUST HAVE BE BROKEN IN ORDER FOR LEVER TO BE SHIFTED. OWNER DECLARED BRAKE LIGHTS WORKING JUST FINE.*AK

WHILE TRAVELING AT 25-30 MPH VEHICLE STALLED. THEN, VEHICLE SHUT OFF ENTIRELY. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK
SEAT BELT BUCKLES FAILED TO OPERATE PROPERLY. AFTER TAKING VEHCLE TO DEALER, WAS TOLD THAT VEHICLE'S MAKE/MODEL WAS INVOLVED IN A RECALL, BUT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED DUE TO VIN. *AK
IN 07/01 THE RIGHT REAR TIRE EXPERIENCED A SIDEWALL BLOWOUT WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TIRE. THE REPLACEMENT TIRE VIBRATED EXCESSIVELY WHILE DRIVING. TIRE DEALER STATED THE TIRE COULD NOT BE BALANCED, BECAUSE THE TIRE WAS COMING APART ON THE INSIDE. WHEN THE VEHICLE SAT ON AN INCLINE, THE ENGINE STALLED. IF THE VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN HALF TANK OF FUEL, IT WOULD STALL. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED OVER FIVE TIMES, BUT THE DEALER WAS NOT CONSULTED. *AK *SC *JB

I HAVE HAD ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS FROM THE BEGINING, THEN TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS THEY HAVE ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR THEN REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION OVER 6 TIMES. THIS VEHICLE HAS BECOME UNRELIABLE AT THIS POINT. I AM TRYING TO GO THROUGH THE FORD DISPUTE SETTLEMENT BOARD AT THIS POINT BUT I AM LOOKING FOR ALL THE HELP I CAN AT THIS POINT

THE GAS PEDAL ON THE ADJUSTABLE PEDAL SYSTEM WILL ON OCCASION WEDGE UNDER EDGE OF FLOOR MAT. FLOOR MATS I HAVE ARE OEM PARTS THAT CAME WITH THE VEHICLE. PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN 2 MONTHS, ONCE AT 75MPH, AND THE OTHER AT 5 MPH. SECOND INCIDENT CAUSED ACCIDENT. DRIVER SIDE FLOOR MAT IS SECURED TO FLOOR CARPET WITH "RETAINER" MECHANISM (HOOK) THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS DESIGN FLAW IN THE ADJUSTABLE PEDAL SYSTEM AND MUST BE ADDRESSED BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY.*AK
SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHILE BRAKE PEDAL WAS BEING USED. DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM, BUT HAS INSTALLED A FLIGHT RECORDER. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS.*AK

ON 01/04/10 WE HAD SNOW AND RAIN. I DROVE TO A STORE WITH MY 2001 FORD EXPEDITION AND WHEN I WANTED TO LEAVE THE CAR FAILED TO START. I HAD TO SIT IN THE COLD (13'WEATHER) WAITING FOR SOME ONE TO HELP FOR ALMOST AN HOUR. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE FOLLOWING WEEK, THEY SLAMMED ME WITH $1000 IN REPAIR COSTS - MONEY I CANNOT AFFORD TO SPENT ON A VEHICLE ESPECIALLY IF IT IS THE MANUFACTURER DEFECT, THE REPAIRMAN ADMITTED THAT THIS VEHICLE HAD ISSUES WITH LEAKY WINDSHIELDS THAT GOES INTO THE FUSES BOX AND THE SHORT OUT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, I DID EXPERIENCE ELECTRIC SHOCK ALSO WHEN I TOUCHED THE VEHICLE, AT THE TIME I DID NOT THINK ANYTHING OF THIS BUT NOW I FEAR THAT THIS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WILL CAUSE SPARKS THAT CAN CAUSE VEHICLE FIRES. FURTHERMORE - IF YOU'RE DRIVING AND THE POWERSTEERING FAIL DUE TO ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS IT WILL CAUSE ACCIDENTS. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AND HELP LOYAL FORD OWNERS TO GET THE REPAIRS THEY DESERVE. *TR

WHILE PULLING OUT OF A STORE PARKING LOT SWERVED VEHICLE TO MISS PEDESTRIAN, LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE, AND AIR BAGS DIDNOT DEPLOY. ALSO, HIT CONCRETE BUS BENCH/ FIRE HYDRANT, AND WOODEN FENCE.HAD NOT CONTACTED DEALER.*AK
THE DOOR LOCK (RECESSED KEY CYLINDER) ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE CAN BE PUNCHED OUT FOR EASY ENTRY DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW,, THE CONSUMER WAS UNAWARE THAT THIS HAD HAPPENED UNTIL THEY RELIZED THAT CONTENTS INSIDE THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN MISSING, THE CONSUMER IS UNABLE TO PUT THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW DOWN BECAUSE OF THE PUNCHED OUT DRIVERS SIDE DOOR LOCK. *YH

CONSUMER STATES THAT THERE IS A PEDAL CONTROL BUTTON ON THE DASHBOARD RIGHT WHERE THE LEFT KNEE COMES INTO CONTACT WITH THE DASHBOARD. AS A RESULT, INADVERTENT PRESSURE FROM THE KNEE CAN CAUSE UNINTENTIONAL ACCELERATION OR DECELERATION DEPENDING ON HOW THE BUTTON IS PUSHED. CONSUMER RECOMMENDS THAT THESE PEDAL ADJUSTMENT SWITCH BE RELOCATED TO ANOTHER SPOT ON THE DASH WHERE THE LEFT KNEE CANNOT INADVERTENTLY AFFECT THE CONTROL. *YD

AFTER 3 SERVICE VISITS, I STILL HAVE A FUELING PROBLEM WITH MY 2001 FORD EXPEDITION. I DEMONSTRATE THE PROBLEM TO A FORD REPRESENTATIVE. AS DEMONSTRATED, WE STARTED FILLING THE FUEL TANK. AFTER 9.4 GALLONS, THE NOZZLE AUTOMATICALLY CLICKED OFF, WE CONTINUED TO FUEL THE TANK OVER THE NEXT 10 15 MINUTES, WITH NEAR CONTINUOUS CLICKING OFF OF THE NOZZLE. AT ABOUT 15 GALLONS, THE FORD REP WAS UNCOMFORTABLE WITH FURTHER FUELING. I CONTINUED TO 18.6 GALLONS, WHEREUPON THE FUEL FINALLY ROSE TO THE FILLER NECK AND EVEN SPILLED OVER A BIT. I HAVE FOUND THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO COMPLETELY FILL THE TANK. THE FORD REP EXPLAINED TO ME, VERY COURTEOUSLY, THAT ONCE THE NOZZLE CLICKS OFF A COUPLE OF TIMES, THE TANK IS CONSIDERED FULL BY FORD MEASURES. THE PROBLEM WITH THIS IS THAT BY THAT MEASURE, I AM REDUCING MY FUEL CAPACITY BY ABOUT 9 GALLONS, AND AT HIGHWAY MILEAGE OF 20 MPG, REDUCING MY CRUISING RANGE BY 180 MILES. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE TO TELL ME I HAVE TO REFUEL MY EXPEDITION 180 MILES SHY OF WHERE I SHOULD BE ABLE TO CRUISE AND REFUEL. THIS IS MY FOURTH FORD AUTO IN 4 YEARS. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. I AM REQUESTING THAT FORD REMOVE THE IDIOTICALLY DESIGNED FUEL TANK IN MY EXPEDITION, AND REPLACE IT WITH A REGULAR IDIOT-PROOF FUEL TANK.
