TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SPORADICALLY WITH THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD START WITHOUT BEING ENGAGED. THE AIR CONDITIONER WOULD ALSO EXHIBIT THE SAME FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WOULD FAIL INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE DEFECT. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,200.
AFTER OWNING THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS THE BATTERY WENT DEAD, I PUT A NEW BATTERY IN IT AND IT WORKED FINE FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS THEN IT WAS DEAD AGAIN. I HOOKED IT TO A DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE AND NO CODES. I THEN REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AND NOW THERE IS A CODE BUT SINCE THE 1ST INCIDENT I HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY EVERY TIME I TURN THE ENGINE OFF OR AFTER 4 TO 8 HOURS THE BATTERY IS DEAD AGAIN. I HAVEN'T HAD THE CODES CHECK YET BUT I WILL SOON. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE EXITING A PARKING SPACE AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE WAS DEPRESSED INTO THE FLOORBOARD ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND NOTICE BRAKE FLUID LEAKING. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE RADIATOR SUPPORTER WAS RUSTED AND ALSO CAUSED THE BRAKE LINES TO RUST. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE RADIATOR SUPPORT UNIT AND THE BRAKE LINE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE FAULTY BRAKE LINES AND THE MANUFACTURER STATED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND MY EXPEDITION JUST SHUT DOWN. ALL POWER OFF AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. WAS STUCK IN MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. HAD IT TOWED TO FORD DEALERSHIP WHO REPLACED THE MAIN FUSE. IT HAPPENED AGAIN 6 MONTHS LATER. ONCE AGAIN HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. ONCE AGAIN MAIN FUSE BLEW AND MY SUV LOST ALL POWER. FORD DEALERSHIP GAVE US EXTRA FUSES. SINCE THEN IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE, ONCE ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND WE REPLACED THE MAIN FUSE . THE LAST TIME WHICH WAS THURSDAY, JANUARY 17TH, MY TEENAGE SON WAS DRIVING AND HE RAN OFF THE ROAD INTO A DITCH. WHEEL RIM BENT BUT HE THANKFULLY WAS JUST SHOOK UP AND NOT INJURED.THIS TIME IT WAS NOT THE FUSE BUT THE SUV JUST LOST POWER AND STEERING LOCKED AND HE WENT OFF THE ROAD. MISSED A TREE BY A FEW FEET. WHEN THIS FIRST BEGAN TO HAPPEN I CALLED FORD AND WROTE THEM MULTIPLE LETTERS. THEY WERE POLITE, BUT STATED IS WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM SINCE CAR HAD 120,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING IN RAINY WEATHER CONDITIONS APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHT BEGAN LEAKING A SMALL AMOUNT OF WATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY RECOMMENDED THE VEHICLE BE TAKEN TO AN AUTO COLLISION CENTER FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTO COLLISION CENTER AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AND ALSO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT EVENTUALLY, THE WATER LEAKAGE WOULD RESULT IN ELECTRICAL ISSUES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A MAIN STREET WHEN A CAR COMES OUT FROM A RESIDENTIAL STREET INFRONT OF ME, I HAD NO BRAKING DISTANCE TIME BUT STILL HIT MY BRAKES AND VEERED TO THE RIGHT TRYING TO MAKE IT INTO THE RESIDENTIAL STREET THE CAR CAME OUT OF TO MISS HITTING THE CAR, BUT INSTEAD HIT THE CORNER WALL AT 45MPH. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED BUT MINE DID NOT RESULTING IN HEAD INJURY. MY HEAD HIT THE WINDSHIELD SO HARD I KEPT BLACKING OUT, LUCKILY MY 1YR OLD PASSENGER (MY SON) ONLY HAD RED MARKS ON HIS NECK FROM THE CAR SEAT STRAPS. *TR
MY FORD EXPEDITION ENGINE RACES WHILE DRIVING BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY WHEN STOPPED AT TRAFFIC SIGNAL THE EXPEDITION ENGINE RAISES AND IF FOOT ISN'T FORCEFULLY PLANTED ON BRAKE AT ALL TIMES IT LUNGES COULD CAUSE ACCIDENT BY REAR ENDING ANY VEHICLE STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME OR PROPERTY DAMAGE TO OTHER VEHICLE AN TO MY OWN. IT FURTHER HAS A HICKUP LIKE NOT GETTING FUEL PROPERLY. THE EXPEDITION HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND TWO WEEKS AGO HAD A COMPLETE TUNEUP(MY THINKING THAT MIGHT BE WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM) NOT THE CASE IT HAS CONTINUED TO DO THE RACING ENGINE AND LUNGES. RECENTLY MY SISTER WITH A NEW FORD EXPLORER HAD A CAR ACCIDENT CAUSED BY THE SAME SYMPTOMS OF MY OWN EXPEDITION. THE DAMAGE TO MY EXPEDITION IN THE EVENT OF AN ACIDENT WOULD BE TO REPAIR OR REPLACE THE FRONTEND OF MY VEHICLE. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, HE SMELLED A BURNING ODOR AND NOTICED SMOKE EMITTING FROM THE HOOD AREA. UPON INSPECTING UNDERNEATH THE HOOD, THE CONTACT OBSERVED AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF SMOKE WHICH ORIGINATED FROM THE ENGINE OIL RESERVOIR. THERE WERE NO FLAMES. THE CONTACT ALLOWED THE ENGINE TO COOL FOR A PERIOD OF FOUR HOURS BEFORE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE MODULE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED; HOWEVER THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SENSOR WAS DISCONNECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,238.
ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING MY 2004 FORD EXPEDITION, A SPARK PLUG HAS BEEN EJECTED FROM THE ENGINE. ONE TIME, AT CITY SPEEDS, A SECOND TIME AT 65 MILES PER HOUR. BOTH TIMES, THERE WAS AN INSTANT LOSS OF POWER AND THE SMELL OF GASOLINE FILLED THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. AFTER THE ORIGINAL FAILURE, I TOOK IT TO AN AUTO MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE SPARK PLUG AND INSTALLED A REPLACEMENT COIL ON PLUG ASSEMBLY. I HAVE NOT YET REPAIRED THE SECOND INCIDENT AS IT OCCURRED LAST NIGHT. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION THAT INITIALLY DIDN'T SEEM THAT SIGNIFICANT, BUT AFTER THE TOW TRUCK OPERATOR SAID, THAT HE THOUGHT THERE WAS A RECALL, IT PROMPTED ME TO RESEARCH FURTHER. HIS TOW SERVICE OPERATES IN THE HARRISBURG, PA AREA AND HE CLAIMED THAT HE SEES THIS HAPPEN NEARLY 1-2X/WEEK WITH FORD 5.4L V8 ENGINES. HE SAID, THAT HE'S "SEEN SO MANY OF THEM, THAT THEY'VE GOT TO HAVE A RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE THE UNOCCUPIED VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH THE ENGINE IN OPERATION, BOTH FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED UNEXPECTEDLY WITHOUT ANY IMPACT TO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ENTERED THE VEHICLE AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE BOTH AIR BAGS WERE REPLACED AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
SPARK PLUG EJECTED FROM ENGINE
I HAVE A FORD EXPEDITION 2004 ON WHICH I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR AIR CONDITIONING UNIT ACTUATOR 3 TIMES SEEMS LIKE THIS IS A FAULTY DESIGN THE REPAIR SHOW CLAIMS THEY REPLACE MANYR CAR A/C UNITSEGULAR BASIS MORE SO THAN MOST OTHER OF THESE ACTUATORS ON A R. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT WAS COMING TO A STOP AND DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP OR SLOW DOWN. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A POLE AND A GAS METER BEFORE THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. NO ONE WAS INJURED YET THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE WAS UNKNOWN. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO STATED THAT THEY WILL SEND A REPRESENTATIVE OUT TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,835.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACTIVATE THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE AUTOMATIC WINDOW BUT THE WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED TO RELEASE THE WINDOW IN AN OPEN POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY INFORMED THAT THE WINDOW REGULATOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE REAR A/C ACTUATOR BEGAN MAKING A THUMPING NOISE AND THE REAR A/C NOW ONLY WORKS WHEN IT WANTS TO AND ALSO THE HEAT IN THE REAR. IF YOU TURN ON THE A/C SOMETIMES HEAT WILL COME OUT OF THE VENTS AND IF YOU TURN ON THE HEAT, SOMETIMES A/C WILL COME OUT OF THE VENTS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT INSERTED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A CODE IN THE OWNERS MANUAL FOR THE SECURITY ALARM SYSTEM TO DEACTIVATE AND BELIEVED THAT TO BE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ENTERED THE CODE AND AFTER WAITING A FEW MINUTES THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE FAILURE RECURRED A SECOND TIME. THE CONTACT USED THE SAME CODE BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START UNTIL THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HE WOULD NEED TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,999.
2004 FORD EXPEDITION SHUTS DOWN RANDOMLY ON HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS OF 50- 70 MPH. FIRST TIME FEB 2011, NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE. HAVE MANAGED TO GET TO SHOULDER OF HIGHWAY EACH TIME. NO LIGHTS COME ON THE DASH UNTIL THE KEY IS TURNED OFF. EACH TIME THE KEY CAN BE TURNED BACK ON AND THE VEHICLE STARTS. IT MAY THEN RUN 1 OR TWO MILES AND SHUT DOWN AGAIN OR IT MAY GO A WEEK OR MORE BEFORE SHUTTING DOWN. LAST WEEK IT SHUT DOWN 4 TIMES IN 12 MILES. ON THE RETURN TRIP, IT DID NOT SHUT DOWN AT ALL. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP OFF AND ON FOR 6 WEEKS, THEY CAN FIND NO PROBLEM, THERE ARE NO DIAGNOSTIC CODES. WE AT FIRST THOUGHT IT WAS A FUEL PUMP PROBLEM, BUT FUEL PUMP PRESSURE IS PERFECT. I NOW THINK IT MAY BE THE FAIL-SAFE THAT IS SHUTTING THE ENGINE DOWN. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN THE CAR SHUTS DOWN ON THE INTERSTATE HWYS IN HOUSTON. I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. FORD MOTOR CO SHOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM, THEIR DEALER SHOPS DON'T HAVE A CLUE ABOUT WHAT TO DO BECAUSE THE PROBLEM DOES NOT SHOW UP ON THEIR EQUIPMENT. HELP! *TR

IN ADDITION, THE HEADLIGHTS BECAME DIMMER. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING WITH CAUTION TO THE RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THEY DETECTED TWO TROUBLE CODES RELATED TO THE WIRING HARNESS AND COMPUTER SYSTEM. THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN UNDER NHTSA ITEM NUMBER 10009329 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 81,700.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION EQUIPPED WITH COOPER DEFINITY DAKOTA A/T TIRES, SIZE 265/70R17 (NA). WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE CONTROL AND VEERED OFF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND NOTICED ALL OF THE TREAD ON THE DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE WAS MISSING. A SPARE TIRE WAS INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE. THE TIRE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 75,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 40 MPH AND CHANGING GEARS WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES BUT THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A PILE OF SNOW IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO REFERRED HIM BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,000. 2003 FORD F250 AND 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. CONSUMER STATES RIGHT REAR SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD. THIS HAPPENED ON BOTH VEHICLES *TGW THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED AN ADAPTER WAS MADE AS A TEMPORARY FIX. ABOUT 500 MILES LATER, THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED THE HEADS OR ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $3000-$4000. *JB
ENGINE HOOD INSULATOR MATERIAL BEGAN TO SMOLDER AND SMOKE. NEEDED TO REMOVE BEFORE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE. BURNED TWO FINGERS. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A VACUUM-LIKE NOISE BEFORE THE SUNROOF AND PART OF THE FRAME SURROUNDING IT FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE PLASTIC WAS PLACED WHERE THE FRACTURE OCCURRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 80,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
MY WIFE DROVE HER 2004 FORD EXPEDITION OVER A SPEED BUMP IN A COUNTY PARK WHEN THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. *TR
3 WEEKS AFTER 60,000 MILE CHECK UP, MY WIFE TURN THE VEHICLE ON AND IT MADE A LOUD POP NOISE THEN ENGINE STARTED VIBRATING ABNORMALLY AND MAKING A LOUD PUTT-PUTT NOISE. SHE DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME APPROXIMATELY 1/4 MILE AND IT SMELLED LIKE IT WAS BURNING. MY MECHANIC SAID, IT BLEW OUT THE #5 SPARK PLUG, AND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON A FORD TRITON ENGINE. *TR
THE FORD HVAC BLEND MOTORS ARE VERY POORLY DESIGNED AND FAIL VERY OFTEN. THE INTERNET IS FULL OF TESTIMONIALS ON FAILURES OF THIS PART IN A NUMBER OF FORD VEHICLES, INCLUDING MINE, A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. QUOTED REPAIRS TO REPLACE THE BLEND MOTOR ARE IN THE $700 DOLLAR RANGE. *TR
THE TIRE TREAD IS STARTING TO DETACH FROM THE TIRE'S CARCASS IN A 6 INCH SECTION OF THE TIRE. THE OTHER THREE TIRES ARE SHOWING SIGNS OF DETATCHMENT, LIKE CRACKING AT THE EDGES OF THE TIRES. UPDATED 09/29/10. *LJ *TR
WE OWN A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. ON JUNE 29TH MY WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN WERE DRIVING THE TRUCK HOME WHEN A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE HEAD. SHE DROVE THE TRUCK TO ME AT WORK NOT KNOWING WHAT REALLY HAPPENED. THERE WAS A PLUG ATTACHED TO THE COIL BOUNCING AGAINST THE BLOCK NEAR A HOLE SPITTING GAS AN GAS VAPOR. I'M NOT SURE WHAT SITUATION IS NEEDED TO ORDER A RECALL BUT IT LOOKED TO ME LIKE ONE UNLUCKY BOUNCE AND AN ENGINE FIRE WOULD BREAKOUT. I HAVE SINCE LOOKED THIS MATTER UP AND FOUND MULTIPLE PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. AT THE VERY LEAST FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO INFORM THEIR BUYERS THAT THIS IS A POSSIBILITY. I HAD NO PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE OF THIS BEING A PROBLEM OR I WOULD HAVE PUT ANTI-SEIZE ON THE PLUGS WHICH COULD HAVE STOPPED THE PROBLEM. IN A TIME WHEN TOYOTA HAD TO CAUSE ACCIDENTS AND DEATH TO GET SOMETHING DONE MAYBE WE COULD BE A LITTLE MORE PROACTIVE ON THIS ONE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH ON JUNE 23, 2010, A VEHICLE FAILED TO YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY AND CRASHED INTO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CONTACTS FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVERS FRONTAL AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY, AND THE SEAT BELT FAILED TO RESTRAIN THE DRIVER; HOWEVER, THE PASSENGER FRONTAL AIR BAG DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE CHEST AND BACK.
