WHILE DRIVING BRAKES FAILED. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH RAN OFF THE ROAD. THIS HAPPENED TWICE. THE SECOND TIME AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED. *AK
RECALL 02T012000 CONCERNING CONTINENTAL TIRED SEPARATION. MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED REGARDING THIS RECALL, AND CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE DOT NUMBERS DID NOT MATCH THE TIRES ON VEHICLE WERE NOT SUBJECT TO THE RECALL. MANUFACTURER WILL NOT HONOR THE RECALL.*AK
SEPTEMBER 24, 2004, I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 FORD EXPEDITION [XXX] IN HENDERSON, KENTUCKY. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN JULY FROM D-PATRICK FORD IN EVANSVILLE, INDIANA. I WAS HEADING EAST TO PICK UP MY SON AT APPROXIMATELY 2 PM. ON HIGHWAY 60. THANKFULLY, I WAS IN SLOW TRAFFIC AND HAD STOPPED DUE TO A TURNING VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, AND WAS PROCEEDING TO GO AROUND THIS VEHICLE WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. SUDDENLY MY STEERING WHEEL WAS JOLTED AND IT FELT AS THOUGH MY PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WHEEL HAD FALLEN OUT BENEATH ME, AND I WAS BROUGHT TO A HALT. UPON GETTING OUT OF MY CAR, IT LOOKED AS IF THE TOP HALF OF THE TIRE HAD FALLEN INTO THE VEHICLE. THE SMELL OF BURNING RUBBER WAS APPARENT. A FEW MINUTES LATER, I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON US HIGHWAY 41 WITH MY SON TRAVELING 60 MPH. THE INJURIES AND DEATHS THAT COULD HAVE OCCURRED TO US AND OTHERS ON THE ROADWAY ARE VERY DISTURBING TO ME. *AK THE TOW OPERATOR AND THEN THE SERVICE MANAGER WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS FIRST TOWED (CLOSEST DEALERSHIP), DEMPLEWOLF FORD IN HENDERSON, INFORMED US IT WAS A DEFECTIVE BALL JOINT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AGAIN TO D-PATRICK FORD IN EVANSVILLE, INDIANA, ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, IN ORDER TO GET THE REPAIR MADE AND OBTAIN A LOANER VEHICLE. I KNOW THAT THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE PRODUCT AND I WANT ACTION TO PREVENT OTHERS FROM GETTING HURT OR KILLED. I WAS A LUCKY, BUT IF THERE IS ONE LIKE MINE, THERE ARE OTHERS. I AM CERTAIN I WOULD HAVE ROLLED OVER DUE TO THIS MALFUNCTION IF I WAS TRAVELING AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED. EVEN AT MY LOW RATE OF SPEED, THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROL WAS IMPACTED AND I FELT IN DANGER. I AM CONCERNED FOR MY FAMILY AND OTHERS SAFETY. HAVE TOLD THE DEALERSHIPS AND WRITTEN TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF FORD MOTOR COMPANY ASKING THEM TO REPORT THIS TO YOUR ORGANIZATION. ON 9-18-04 DARRELL BALDWIN, DENICE BALDWIN AND DEVIN THEISEN WERE IN 2004 EXPEDITION SITTING IN DRIVEWAY PREPARING TO LEAVE FOR A SOCCER GAME. DARRELL PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE WITH THE BRAKE FIRMLY APPLIED. THE CAR INVOLUNTARILY ACCELERATED AT HIGH RATE UNTIL THE BRAKES QUIT AND SHOT US INTO OUR OTHER VEHICLE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. WE VEERED RIGHT TRYING TO MISS THE TRUCK BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE CAR CONTINUED ACROSS OUR YARD HEADING TOWARD OUR NEIGHBORS HOUSE ACROSS THE STREET. DURING THIS TIME THE BRAKES WERE UNABLE TO STOP THE CAR AND THE GEAR SHIFT WOULDN'T GO INTO NEUTRAL. THE PATH LEFT SKID MARKS DOWN OUR DRIVEWAY, ACROSS THE STREET AND FINALLY IN THE DRIVEWAY OF OUR NEIGHBOR. THIS WAS AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE SITUATION. USUALLY THERE ARE CHILDREN OUT PLAYING AND HAD THIS OCCURRED WHEN CHILDREN WERE PRESENT IT COULD HAVE BEEN A POTENTIALLY FATAL SITUATION! THERE IS A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE RESEARCHED. FORD HAS TAKEN POSSESSION OF VEHICLE FOR INVESTIGATION.*AK
WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IT CAUGHT ON FIRE UNDER HOOD. CONSUMER CALLED THE FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED, AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION. *AK
2002 FORD EXPEDITION WITH 42,159 MILES. 8/27/04 VEHICLE TAKEN INTO FORD DEALERSHIP FOR OIL CHANGE , BRAKE INSPECTION AND TIRE ROTATION. SERVICE TECH NOTED FRONT TIRES A LITTLE CHOPPED , ROTATION SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS. *AK 8/30/04 CALLED FACILITY WHERE I BUY MY TIRES AND HAVE MY VEHICLES ALIGNMENT PERFORMED TO ASK IF THIS COULD BE A ALIGNMENT ISSUE. AFTER VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE TIRE WEAR THEY FELT THAT ALIGNMENT WAS NEEDED. 9/2/04 RECIEVED A LETTER FROM FORD CONTAINING UPDATED INSPECTED PROCCEDURES FOR THE EXPEDITION AND OTHER FORD VEHICLES TITLED TIE-ROD INSPECTION PROCEDURE. 9/3/04 VEHICLE TAKEN IN FOR FRONT END ALIGNMENT AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT COULD NOT BE ALIGNED BECAUSE OF OUTER TIE-ROD END WEAR AND THESE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FORD DEALER DIDN'T CHECK FOR THIS EVEN AFTER SEEING TIRE DAMAGE WHILE ROTATING TIRES. WHEN INFORMED OF THE TIE ROD PROBLEM THE FORD DEALERSHIP SAID REPAIR WOULD BE OUT OF POCKET SINCE VECHILE HAD OVER 42,000 MILES. I HAD BOTH THE INNER AND OUTER TIE-RODS REPLACED AT MY INDEPENDENT REPAIR FACILITY SINCE THE LETTER FROM FORD IMPLIED THAT 15,000 MILES WAS THE ABOUT THE LIFE EXPECTANCY OF THE TIE-RODS THEY USED. THE TIE-RODS WERE REPLACE WITH ONES HAVING GREASE FITTINGS UNLIKE FORD'S ORIGINAL FACTORY EQUIPMENT. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A REPAIR FORD SHOULD COVER FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE AS LONG AS THEY CONTINUE USING PARTS WHICH SEEM TO HAVE THIS SHORTENED LIFE EXPECTANCY AND COULD RESULT IN INJURY TO ANYONE USING THESE VEHICLES.
WHILE DRIVING STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT RACK AND PINION STEERING AND TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CONSUMER INFORMED MECHANIC THAT THE PROBLEM RECURRED, AND HAD NOT BEEN RESOLVED. *AK
WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE THE REAR WINDOW INADVERTENTLY BROKE AND SHATTERED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH VEHICLE LOST CONTROL AND COLLIDING HEAD ON WITH A POLE VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, DUAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVER SUSTAINED MAJOR FACIAL INJURIES DUE TO HITTING HER FACE ON THE STEERING WHEEL. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 55 MPH ON I85 IN CHARLOTTE DURING A THUNDERSTORM, WE WERE IN THE CENTER LANE AND AN 18 WHEELER WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE. SUDDENLY, THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE LIFTED UP AND WE WENT LEFT -HEAD ON WITH THE CONCRETE MEDIAN. THEN BOUNCED OFF THE WALL AND CAME BACK ACROSS TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC AND HIT THE 18 WHEELER HEAD ON. BOUNCED OFF THE TRUCK HEADING STRAIGHT AHEAD IN THE CENTER LANE WHERE WE STARTED AND COASTED OFF THE ROAD. NOT ONE OF OUR AIR BAGS DEPLOYED! 55MPH -2 HEAD ON COLLISIONS - AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN ATTEMPT TO COME OUT! WE HAD TO HAVE A TOW TRUCK COME AND PICK UP OUR 2004 FORD EXPEDITION (1 OWNER) AND THEY TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER TO COME AND INVESTIGAGE. WE HAD TO RENT A CAR TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY WITH OUR FAMILY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED IMMEDIATELY BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY. *NM
WHILE PARKING FRONT AIR BAGS INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
I WAS DRIVING AT APROXIMATELY 30-40 MPH WHEN A DEER CROOSED THE ROAD AND I SWERVED TO MISS IT AND LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE. I THEN CRASHED IN TO A THICK TELE POLE AND BROKE IT IN TWO, THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED SEVERAL FEET INTO A BARRIER HEAD ON. THE FRONT OF MY VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED BY HITTING THE POLE ON THE PASENGE SIDE IN LINE WITH THE SEAT, TOTALING THE VEHICLE AND RIPPING OFF THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE AND CONECTING PARTS, FURTHER DAMAGE TO THE CENTER OF THE VEHICLE WHEN IT STRUCK THE AFORE MENTIONED BARRIER. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS A LEGITIMATE COMPLAINT OR EVEN A COMPLAINT. BUT I WAS TOLD THAT MY AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED AS I CRASHED GOING FASTER THAN 14 MPH, THEY DID NOT DEPLOY. I WISH THEY DID BECAUSE I WAS HURT AND AM STILL FEELING SOME OF THE INJURIES SINCE JULY 6, 2004 ( OVER 3 WEEKS AGO ). I FELT LIKE EVIL KENEVIL AFTER MISSING A JUMP. THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOTALED THE VEHICLE AS IT HAD SEVERE FRONTAL DAMAGE AND A BENT FRAME AND SOME CAM THING DAMAGED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I WANT TO KNOW ALL THE FACTS AVAILABLE REGARDING THE AIR BAGS TO INCLUDE SENSORS, THEIR LOCATIONS AND HOW MANY, TESTING PROCESS/EQUIPMENT USED, AIR BAG COMPUTER CONTROL INFO ECT. I CALLED THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED AND THE SAID THE WERE GOING TO CALL ME BACK, THEY DID NOT.*AK
2004 FORD EXPEDITION SUV - STEERING WHEEL PULSATES WHEN BRAKES APPLIED. RETURNED TO DEALER SERVICE DEPT AND THEY REGROUNG THE FRONT ROTORS - THIS OCCURED @ 16500 MILES AND @ 25600 MILES. DEALER ADVISED THAT IT IS NOT A GOOD DESIGN BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO LARGE A VEHICLE FOR THE SIZE OF BRAKE ROTOR THAT THEY OVERHEAT AND THEN WARP ?? DEALER ADVISED I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKES TOO HARD.*AK
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THIS CAUSED BRAKES TO LOCK, AND CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO UNLOCK THEM. THEN, VEHICLE COLLIDED INTO A BRICK WALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. *AK
IN FEBRUARY 2004, WE PURCHASED AN EXPEDTION FROM WORLD FORD IN STONE MOUNTAIN, GEORGIA. THE VEHICLE HAS 8100 MILES TO DATE. ON JUNE 6, 2004, AT APPROXIMATE 3:00 PM, MY CHILDREN AND I WERE ENROUTE TO A BIRTHDAY PARTY AND A TIRE (REAR RIGHT) BLEW OUT. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY DURING MAJOR TRAFFIC AND HAD TO TRAVEL LESS THAN 1/2 MILE TO GET OVER AND OFF. I CALLED MY HUSBAND WHO CAME TO PICK THE CHILDREN AND ME UP. ON MONDAY, JUNE 7, WE WENT TO WORLD FORD TO TALK WITH THEM ABOUT THE MATTER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TIRES THAT CAME STANDARD WITH THE TRUCK WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY WITH THEM. WE EXPLAINED THAT WHEN WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, WE WERE NOT INFORMED OF ANY OUTSIDE WARRANTIES. THEY RECOMMENDED THAT WE GO TO NATIONAL TIRE AND BATTERY TO HAVE THEM CALL THE MANUFACTURER. WE TRAVELED TO NTB AND WAS TOLD BY NTB THAT THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH WORLD FORD'S CUSTOM TIRE PACKAGE AND COULD NOT HELP US. AFTER GOING AROUND THE WORLD, WE FINALLY REACHED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT TO TIRES PLUS. NOW WE ARE WAITING FOR TIRE PLUS TO INFORM US THAT CONTINENTAL WILL REPLACE THE TIRE. *AK
IN MAY 2004 I PURCHASED A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION XLT 4X4 FROM CROSSROADS FORD IN CARY NC. THE VEHICLE ODOMETER READING WAS 10 MILES. THE DAY AFTER THE PURCHASE I RETURNED THE VEHICLE AND THREE OF THE ORIGINAL CONTINENTAL TIRES WERE REPLACED DUE TO EXCESSIVE ROAD FORCE. N AUGUST 2004 I BROUGHT THE EXPEDITION BACK TO X-RDS FORD FOR SERVICE. A FOURTH CONTINENTAL TIRE WAS REPLACED DUE TO EXCESSIVE ROAD FORCE. I TOOK THE EXPEDITION TO PERRY BROS. IN SMITHFIELD NC FOR SERVICE AT 11000 MILES IN NOVEMBER 2004. PERRY BROS. TOLD ME THAT TWO OF THE CONTINENTAL TIRES WERE WORN OUT. I TOOK THE EXPEDITION BACK TO X-RDS FORD AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND THEY FOUND THAT ALL FOUR OF THE SECOND SET OF CONTINENTAL TIRES SHOWED EXCESSIVE AND UNUSUAL TREAD WEAR. CROSSROADS FORD OFFERED ME A THIRD SET OF CONTINENTAL TIRES WHICH I DECLINED. I WAS CHARGED $273 TO HAVE A SET OF MICHELIN TIRES PUT ON. I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS SOME DEFECT IN EITHER THE CONTINENTAL TIRE OR FORD EXPEDITION OR INCOMPATIBILITY ARISING THEREIN THAT IS CAUSING THIS VEHICLE/TIRE COMBINATION TO BE DANGEROUS. I UNDERSTAND THAT PEOPLE WERE KILLED AND INJURED BY THIS SAME PROBLEM ABOUT FOUR YEARS AGO. I FEEL THAT MY FAMILY AND I WERE PLACED IN JEOPARDY BY FORD AND ITS AGENT, CROSSROADS FORD. *AK
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND A LOUD BUZZING SOUND WAS HEARD FROM FRONT. BOTH FEET WERE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC PLACED THE VEHICLE ON THE DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE. HOWEVER, MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
CONSUMER WILL DESCRIBE THE PROBLEM RELATED WITH THE EXHAUST INTAKE MANIFOLD. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *JB THE LEAF AND TWIG LITTER WOULD COLLECT ON THE SKID PLATE WHEN DRIVEN OFF OF THE ROAD. THIS WAS IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO HOT PIPES WHICH CAUSED SMOLDERING AND A FIRE HAZARD. *SC *JB
INTERMITTENTLY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PUT INTO DRIVE, IT STALLED. ALSO, AIR BAG WARNING AND TIRE PRESSURE LIGHTS CAME ON. DEALERSHIP PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE MADE A LOUD POPPING NOISE AND VIBRATED. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR SERVICE THREE TIMES, AND DEALER INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THIS WAS NORMAL.*AK
THE 2004 FORD EXPEDITION IS BUILT TOO LOW TO SAFELY TAKE OFF ROAD. BECAUSE OF ITS LACK OF CLEARANCE FORD INSTALLED SKID PLATES TO PROTECT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD, CATALYTIC CONVERTER, ETC. THE SKID PLATES COLLECT LEAF LITTER WHICH ACCUMULATES RIGHT NEXT TO VERY HOT COMPONENTS. THIS IS A FIRE HAZARD. IT IS DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE SKID PLATES LITTER FREE BECAUSE OF THE MANY ANGLES AND TIGHT SPACES. THE LITTER DOES NOT BLOW OUT ONCE BACK ON THE HIGHWAY. AFTER A DAY OF DRIVING OFF ROAD, I NOTICED TAR-LIKE MATERIAL FROM SMOLDERING LEAF LITTER DRIPPING FROM THE SKID PLATES. I HAD TRIED SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE DAY TO KNOCK THE LITTER OUT BUT IT DID NO GOOD. IT SHOULD NOT BE NECESSARY FOR A DRIVER TO PUT THEIR FACE UNDER A VEHICLE NEAR VERY HOT COMPONENTS, ON A DAILY BASIS, IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN A SAFE VEHICLE. *LA
THE CONSUMER WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT IN LIGHT RAIN, MADE A RIGHT TURN AND THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD AND VEERED INTO THE STREET. THE CONSUMER WAS STANDING ON THE BRAKES, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SURGE FORWARD. THE VEHICLE HIT AND SCRAPED A PARKED VEHICLE, DAMAGING THE RIGHT SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS FINALLY BROUGHT TO A STOP AND TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. *AK *SC *JB
POWER STEERING SEEMS TO WORK HARDER THAN NEEDED. IN A PARKING LOT MANEUVER ONE NEEDS TO USE BOTH HANDS TO TURN STEERING WHEEL. LOCAL DEALER SAYS THAT THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH THE PROPORTIONAL VALVE. CAN CAUSE ACCIDENT IF DRIVER DOES NOT STEER WITH BOTH HANDS. ALSO RETURNS TO MIDDLE LATER THAN USUAL. *LA
THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION WAS IN THE PARK POSITION WHILE WAITING ON A SLOW TRAIN. WHEN ENGAGING THE TRANSMISSION INTO THE DRIVE POSITION, AFTER THE TRAIN HAD PASSED, THE VEHICLE UNCONTROLLABLY FULLY ACCELERATED ON IT'S OWN. TO AVOID A SERIOUSLY COLLISION WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC, THE DRIVER TURNED THE VEHICLE ON TO THE RAILROAD TRACKS WHERE IT CAME TO A STOP AFTER DAMAGING TWO WHEELS AND HIGH CENTERING ON THE TRACKS. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS VEHICLE. *NM
I HAVE BEEN HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY NEW EXPEDITION EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE IT DOES NOT WANT TO START ON THE FIRST TRY,IT DRAGS LIKE SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE BATTERY.I HAVE TAKEN IT TO FORD 3 TIMES AND THEY HAVE NOT FOUND ANYTHING WRONG AT ALL WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM NOR MY BATTERY.I HAVE NOT HAD MY TRUCK NOT EVEN 4 MONTHS NOW.IT IS BRAND NEW AND IT IS FRUSTRATING WHEN YOU GET IN YOUR TRUCK AND IT ACTS LIKE IT DOES NOT WANT TO START, AND NO ONE CAN FIND THE PROBLEM.I NEED SOMETHING OR SOMEONE TO FIND OUT THE PRBLEM BECAUSE WHEN I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER IT DOES NOT DO IT, AND IT HAPPENED THREE TIMES THIS WEEK.I AM FRUSTRATED AND ABOUT TO GO UNDER THE LEMON LAW IF NOT HANDLED IN THE NEXT COUPLE WEEKS.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH BRAKES FAILED. DRIVER PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, WHICH PULSATED AND WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR. SOMEHOW VEHICLE STOPPED WITHOUT INCIDENT. AFTER THE VEHICLE STOPPED ENGINE CHECK WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER WAS NOT SURE HOW TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM. *AK
ON SUNDAY, 3/14/2004, I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 FORD EXPEDITION ON DRY PAVEMENT WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE WITH ACCELERATION (15-20 MPH). I CHECKED TO BE SURE THERE WERE NO FLAT TIRES AND PROCEEDED. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS UP TO 45-50 MPH I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE AND THE VEHICLE'S BRAKES DID NOT PROPERLY RESPOND. THE BRAKE PEDAL BEGAN TO VIBRATE AND SHAKE BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW DOWN. I APPLIED THE BRAKES HARDER AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A SLOW STOP. ONCE THE VEHICLE STOPPED A WARNING BUZZER SOUNDED AND THE VEHICLES MESSAGE CENTER STATED "CHECK ADVTRAC". THE ADVTRAC FEATURE DISABLED AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME SAFELY. THE NEXT DAY, (TODAY 3/15/04), I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WITHOUT EVENT. THE DEALERSHIP HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS BUT STATED THEY WOULD CONTACT FORD AND LET ME KNOW. THIS EVENT TOOK PLACE ON A CLEAR PAVED DRY FLAT ROAD. FORTUNATELY, THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS IN MY PATH OF TRAVEL. HAD THERE BEEN, A COLLISION WOULD HAVE OCCURRED DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE HAS 2014 MILES AND THE VIN IS [XXX]. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING OPERATED IN THE "2HIGH" MODE. I PURCHASED A NEW 2004 FORD EXPEDITION THE FRONT BRAKES GIVE OFF HUGE AMOUNTS OF BRAKE DUST IN 100 MILES THE RIMS ARE SOLID BLACK. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND MAY RESULT IN BRAKE FAILURE. *NM
WHILE DRIVING MY 2004 FORD EXPEDITION AT ~65 MPH THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME SLOWED ABRUPTLY. UPON PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE PEDAL FELL TO THE FLOOR AND THE BRAKES FAILED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE. I SWERVED TO AVOID HITTING OTHER VEHICLE. I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE AND THEN PRESSED THE BRAKE AGAIN AND THE BRAKE BEGAN TO OPERATE NORMALLY ONCE AGAIN. CAR CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER ALTHOUGH CAUSE HAS NOT BEEN FOUND. 1 WEEK PRIOR I HAD THE BRAKES INSPECTED DUE A CONCERN WHERE THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD SLOWLY FALL TO FLOOR WHILE ADDING AND REMOVING PRESSURE FROM THE PEDAL (WITHOUT COMPLETELY REMOVING PRESSURE) IN 5-10 MPH DOWNHILL STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. DEALER HAD TOLD ME THAT THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM HAD BEEN INSPECTED AND THAT THE BRAKES WERE FINE. *AK
ON A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION, WHEN MAKING A HARD RIGHT OR LEFT TURN, STEERING WHEEL TENDS TO STICK IN HARD TURN, SUCH THAT IT BECOMES DANGEROUS AS STEERING GETS STUCK AND DRIVER HAS TO WRENCH WHEEL BACK TO AVOID CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. *AK FORD DEALER SAYS THAT THIS IS A ANORMAL VEHICLE REACTION. IN MY ESTIMATION THIS IS DANGEROUS AND FORD NEEDS TO RECALL 2003/2004 EXPEDITIONS TO FIX PROBLEM WITHTHE POWER STEERING.
[29 DAY'S NEW] 2004 FORD EXPEDITION 4X4 EDDIE B.- I STARTED THE CAR AND ATTEMPTED TO BACK UP OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. I NOTICED THE STEERING WAS STIFF AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS HEAVY. I THEN NOTICED ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON. THE CAR HAD ROLLED BACK OUT OF AN INCLINED PARKING SPOT, SO I TRIED TO PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND PLACE IT BACK IN ITS PREVIOUS SPOT. I COULD PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE, BUT IT WOULDN'T MOVE FORWARD; I CYCLED FROM PARK TO DRIVE A COUPLE OF TIMES TO BE SURE IT WAS PROPERLY IN DRIVE. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING FINE THE WHOLE TIME THIS WAS HAPPENING. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, RESTARTED IT, AND HAD THE SAME RESULTS. THIS WAS A MAJOR MALFUNCTION, SO I CALLED THE FORD TOWING SERVICE. WHILE WAITING FOR THE TOW DRIVER, I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE RETURNED TO A NORMAL RUNNING STATE, WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS ETC. THE DEALER HAS HAD THE CAR FOR ALMOST A WEEK AND CAN NOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM OR PRODUCE ANY FAULT CODES. *AK
MY 2004 FORD EXPEDITION IS 31 DAYS OLD AND HAS EXCESSIVE BRAKE WEAR, WHICH I CONSIDER A SAFETY ISSUE. THE BRAKE DUST, IN LESS THAN TWO THOUSAND MILES, IS CAKED ON THE FRONT WHEELS AND EXTENDS THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE RUNNING BOARDS ON EACH SIDE. THE AMOUNT OF BRAKE DUST COVERING THE WHEELS AND RUNNING BOARDS INDICATES EXCESSIVE WEAR OF THE BRAKE PADS. I AM GREATLY CONCERNED THAT THE BRAKES WILL FAIL PREMATURELY. MASSIVE BRAKE DUST ACCUMULATION. *AK
WHEN COMING OFF A RAMP AND MERGING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC THE ACCELERATOR BECAME STUCK. THE DRIVER HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES AND PLACE THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL. AT 1,470 MILES WHILE PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY THE TRUCK SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING AND WOULD ONLY GO IN REVERSE. THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION PISTON HAD DISINTEGRATED. *JB *SC
AT 500 MILES THE NEW DRIVER FLOORBOARD HAD A VIBRATION AND GRINDING NOISE WHEN THE WHEEL WAS TURNED WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER KEPT MY CAR FOR 2 DAYS AND CHANGED OUT THE DIFFERENTALS AND PACKED IT WITH A "FIX" FROM FORD. DRIVING HOME FROM THE DEALER MY CAR STILL EXPERIENCED THE SAME VIBRATIONS AND GRINDING. THE DEALER ADVISED ME TO DRIVE IT 1,000 MILES AND THEN RETURN IT IF IT STILL HAD TURNING AND GRINDING. I RETURNED MY CAR TO THE DEALER AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED A SATISFACTORY FIX. I'M WORRIED ABOUT A MAJOR MALFUNCTION HAPPENING.
04 EXPEDITION. TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM NOT WORKING PROPERLY, WHEN TIRE PRESSURE IS SET TO 35 PSI PER FACTORY SETTING ON DOOR, TPMS GOES OFF. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER THE TIRE PRESSURE IS CORRECT AND THE TIRES ARE FINE. TPMS STILL NOT WORKING PROPERLY. *AK
WHILE DRIVING IN CRUISE CONTROL MODE AT 65 MPH THE CABLE STUCK IN OPEN. CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO DISENGAGE FROM THIS MODE BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. CONSUMER HAD TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN THE NEUTRAL GEAR AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. THE CAUSE OF THE CABLE STICKING IS YET TO BE DETERMINED.*AK
04 EXPEDITION. TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM NOT WORKING PROPERLY, WHEN TIRE PRESSURE IS SET TO 35PSI PER FACTORY SETTING ON DOOR, TMPS GOES OFF. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER THE SPEC ON THE TMPS IS 3-5PSI BELOW SET TIRE PRESSURE WHICH SHOULD BE 35PSI FACTORY SETTING. THE DEALER SPOKE TO THE FORD TECH THEY SAID TO INCREASE THE TIRE PRES TO 39 PSI, THE DEALER SET THE PRES TO 40PSI. THE TMPS HAS NOT GONE OFF, BUT MY CONCERN IS IT WORKING . THE SENSOR IS ACTUALLY SET 5PSI HIGHER THAN THE RECOMMENDED PRESSURE, AND IF THE SENSOR IS WORKING NOW. IS THE SENSOR IN A CONDITION THAT DOES NOT ALLOW IT TO WORK. IN MY PROFESSION, MEDICAL VENTILATION REPAIR, IF A PRES SENSOR IS PUSHED TO ITS LIMIT IT HAS A TENDENCY TO STAY IN THIS POSITION (STUCK).IF THE TIRE DOES HAVE A PROBLEM WILL IT GO OFF, THE TMPS HAS GONE OFF CONTINUALLY SINCE IT WAS NEW. IT HAS BEEN IN THE DEALERS SERVICE AT LEAST 3 DOCUMENTED TIMES AND NUMEROUS TIMES THEY JUST CHECKED THE TIRE PRESS AND ADJUST THE PRESS. FORD SHEET NUMBER 17030, OF FORD SUGGESTED FIXES. TIRE PRESSURE CHANGES APPROXIMATELY 1 PSI PER 10DEG OF TEMP CHANGE. TO CLEAR TMPS WARNING, SET TIRE PSI TO SPEC WITH A DIGITAL GAUGE NOTE TO REDUCE FALSE TMPS WARNINGS OR RIDE HARSHNESS DURING TIRE SERVICE OR PDI, THE DEALER SET TIRE PRESSURE TO 35PSI WITH A DIGITAL METER AND WE STILL GET THE LIGHT/MESSAGE. IF THE TIRE PRESSURE CHANGES 1 DEGREE FOR EVERY 10 DEGREE TEMERATURE CHANGE, SET AT 40PSI IN PRESSCOT WHERE I LIVE AND DRIVING TO PHOENIX COULD MAKE THE PRESS IN THE TIRE GREATER THAN THE MAX TIRE PRESSURE ON THE TIRE. THE MAX ON THE TIRE IS 44PSI. THIS IS ALSO THE CASE IN PRESSCOT WINTER VS. SUMMER.I DON'T BELIEVE THAT ADDING TIRE PRESS IS A CORRECT FIX.THE TMPS TO WHAT I HAVE READ DOESN'T ALARM YOU TO OVERPRESS, WHICH COULD CAUSE LACK OF TRACTION IN AN EMERGENCY SWERVE. YOU WOULD NOT HAVE THE SAME TRACTION AS THE TIRE SET AT A LOWER PRESS. FORD SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO MAKE THE TMPS WORK AS INTENDED WITH THE CORRECT PRESS STATED ON THE DRIVER DOOR. *AK

THE KIT IS NOT GUARANTEED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, BUT IT WILL REDUCE THE DUST ACCUMULATION, PER THE DEALERSHIP.*AK *NM
