TWICE I'VE BEEN DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I LOST POWER AND "ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL" MESSAGE CAME ON. ACCELERATOR WOULD NOT WORK, COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD-- 2ND TIME IN HEAVY TRAFFIC!! BOTH TIMES I TURNED OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED OK, BUT I'M SCARED TO DEATH TO DRIVE WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR. DRIVING STRAIGHT ON CITY STREET BOTH TIMES. *TR
MY 2005 EXPEDITION IS MAINTAINED NORMALLY AND SPARK PLUGS CHANGED AND THE ENGINE WILL EITHER CUT OFF OR SLOW DOWN TO ABOUT 30 MILES AN HOUR WHILE I AM ON THE HIGHWAY WITH A ERROR MESSAGE FAIL SAVE MODE. MOST TIMES WHEN I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTART IT TURNS OVER BUT DOESN'T STAY ON. TOTALLY UNSAFE FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. PLEASE RESEARCH AND RECALL WHAT THE ISSUE IS! THIS ISSUE HAS STARTED ABOUT 4 YEARS AFTER WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND HAS BEEN HAPPENING MAYBE ONE TO TWO TIMES A MONTH SINCE.
WHILE SETTING AT A STOP LIGHT A WARNING MESSAGE CAME ON ABOUT CHECKING ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL. WHEN I RELEASE THE BRAKE TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I COASTED INTO THE INTERSECTION ONLY TO FIND THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDDLE HAD NO RESPONSE. FORTUNATELY THE ENGINE IDLE WAS ENOUGH TO GET ME THROUGH THE INTERSECTION BEFORE THE LIGHT TURNED RED. I THEN COASTED TO THE NEAREST PARKING LOT AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. RESTARTED THE VEHICLE WITH NO CHANGE IN ACCELERATOR PEDDLE RESPONSE. AFTER DOING RESEARCH AND SEEING NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE I SEE I WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE NOT BEEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN THIS ISSUE HAPPEN. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL AND FIX THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED WHEN THEIR VEHICLE JUST QUITS WORKING. *TR
AFTER STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC SIGNAL, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT THE PEDAL BEING PUSHED. THE FOOT BRAKE WAS APPLIED WITH INCREASING FORCE TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM GOING INTO THE INTERSECTION. THIS SLOWED THE FORWARD MOVEMENT OF THE VEHICLE DOWN, BUT DIDN'T STOP IT UNTIL THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED WITHIN TWO MINUTES AND OPERATED NORMALLY. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEMS THAT CAN CAUSE ACCIDENTS AND GET PEOPLE KILLED. THIS ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL/BODY NEEDS TO BE RE-ENGINEERED AND A RECALL ISSUED FOR THIS PRODUCT. TOO MANY ISSUES WITH THIS NOT TO IGNORE IT. *TR
I HAVE SIX KIDS AND WHEN YOUR DRIVING AND YOUR CAR SHUTS OFF GOING 50-60 MILES AN HOURS AND GIVES YOU A MESSAGE FAIL SAFE MESSAGE, THAT'S PRETTY SCARY. I FIXED THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR ONCE AND NOW HAVE ISSUES WITH THE SAME ISSUE. I HAVE LOOKED INTO THIS AND SURPRISED THAT THERE ARE NOT RECALLS. THIS IS ONE EXPENSIVE FIX. *TR
DRIVING ON I-75 AT 78 MPH MY CAR JUST SHUT OFF. I HAD NO POWER AND NEARLY WAS INVOLVED IN A 18 WHEELER HITTING ME. THE "CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL" WARNING LIGHT CAME ON BUT AFTER THE ENGINE QUIT. ONCE I CALMED DOWN THE CAR STARTED RIGHT BACK UP. I JUST HAD MY SECOND ISSUE WITH THE SAME WARNING LIGHT AND ENGINE POWER SHUTTING OFF. I HAD TO COAST THROUGH A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION. THEN THE CAR STARTED RIGHT BACK UP. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM ON MORE THAN A FEW EXPEDITIONS AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED IF THE ISSUES ARE NOT RESOLVED. FORD MOTOR COMPANY REFUSES TO HELP.... *TR
RED LIGHT UP AHEAD. DRIVER SLOWING DOWN GIVING PLENTY OF SPACE. ENGINE STARTED REVVING AND VEHICLE STARTED SPEEDING UP. DRIVER PUSHED BRAKE AS HARD AS SHE COULD. VEHICLE WAS ALMOST STOPPED BEFORE ACCELERATION BUT ACCELERATED TO ABOUT 10 MPH AT THE TIME OF IMPACT. 2005 FORD EXPEDITION STRUCK REAR OF CAR WHICH WAS STOPPED AT THE RED LIGHT. DRIVER TOOK VEHICLE TO MECHANIC AT GAS STATION TO CHECK FOR MECHANICAL PROBLEM- NO DEFECT FOUND. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE SPUTTERED WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS APPLIED AND THEN STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE ENGINE FAIL SAFE LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AND WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE STILL SPUTTERED INTERMITTENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 155,000.
WE HAVE HAD THREE INCIDENTS OF UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION ON OUR FORD EXPEDITION. ONCE WITH MY DAUGHTER AND THREE GRANDCHILDREN AND TWICE WITH MYSELF. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD AND THEY SAY THERE IS NO KNOWN VEHICLE PROBLEM AND ONLY OFFERED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A FORD DEALER AND I WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF THE REPAIR. IF FORD IS CORRECT AND THERE IS NO KNOWN PROBLEM, THEN WHY WOULD FORD BE WILLING TO PAY THE COST OF TOWING THE VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP? AT 45 MPH I LOST THROTTLE CONTROL AND WARNING LIGHT CAME ON INDICATING "ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL". I DRIFTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PUT IN PARK AND TURNED OFF ENGINE. I RESTARTED AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND WARNING LIGHT WAS GONE. HAS BEEN FINE FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY IN THE PAST WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 80,000. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH THE VEHICLE MADE A BEEPING NOISE AND A WARNING LIGHT WAS DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD INDICATING TO CHECK THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL. HE LOST ALL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS ENGAGED. HE COASTED THE VEHICLE ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. HE CALLED AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO ORDERED THE PARTS BASED ON HIS DESCRIPTION OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 85,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD RECUR WHEN DRIVING ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART IMMEDIATELY AND DRIVE AS NORMAL. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD POSSIBLY NEED REPLACING AT A COST OF $600. THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR WARRANTIES FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,000.

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED, WHEN THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOOSE POWER. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO STATED THAT THEY WOULD DOCUMENT THE COMPLAINT AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 58,000. UPDATED 07/18/11
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION EDDIE BAUER EDITION(NA). WHILE DRIVING 10-20 MPH, THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TURNED OFF AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,000.

WHILE TRAVELING 45 MPH HE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT HAD APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL , SECONDS LATER THE VEHICLE HAD SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WAS 65000.
3RD INCIDENT OF THIS ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE AND MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ONLINE. VEHICLE RUNS FINE AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WILL COME ON WITH A MESSAGE "ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL" THE VEHICLE REMAINS ON BUT THROTTLE DOES NOT OPERATE. ONE OF THE INCIDENTS HAPPENED IN AN INTERSECTION AND UNDER SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A CRASH. IF THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED IT WORKS FINE UNTIL NEXT INCIDENT. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I AM VERY SURPRISED THAT THIS HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED WITH THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THIS ISSUE DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET. *TR
CAR WAS RUNNING FINE THEN BEEP AND WARNING SHOWS ON DASH SOMETHING ABOUT "ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL'. THE CAR IS STILL RUNNING BUT GAS PEDAL DOESN'T WORK. I WAS STUCK AT A STREET LIGHT STOPPED UNTIL I COULD TURN OFF AND RESTART THE CAR. THIS IS THE 2ND INCIDENT WITH THIS VEHICLE. IT HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME DRIVING OVER 50 MPH ON A HIGHWAY AND HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THERE IS APPARENTLY NOTHING THAT CAN BE FOUND WRONG AND NO WAY TO TELL IF IT IS GOING TO HAPPENED AGAIN AND WHY IT HAPPENED. I HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING TO REPAIR SINCE I CAN NOT FIND A REASON AS TO WHY IT HAPPENED TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. *TR
DRIVING 2005 FORD EXPEDITION PASSED THROUGH INTERSECTION DRIVING 45 MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN CAR LIGHT TURNED ON AND READ ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL FAILURE AND CAR IMMEDIATELY COULD NOT DRIVE OVER 5 MPH. I TURNED AND GOT OFF THE MAIN ROAD, SCARED THAT I WAS GOING TO GET HIT BY ANOTHER CAR. WAS ABLE TO TURN CAR BACK ON AFTER LEAVING THE CAR THEIR FOR A FEW HOURS, TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY AND I HAVE 53,000 AND NOT UNDER WARRENTLY. HE WAS ABLE TO SAFELY RESTART THE VEHICLE TO RESUME NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, AND A TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT BECAUSE THEY WERE NO RECALLS THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 45000.
