Car has 49700 miles. I was traveling on highway at speed and tried to accelerate to merge into exit lane traffic and engine and power train completely cut out and transmission failure light with wrench came on. Luckily cars behind me were able to slow down and avoid an accident but this could have been deadly. Thank God my children were not in the car. Car was previously taken to dealership in January of 2023 for transmission shifting issues and repair work was done. Car is also “hard shifting” into gear from park, causing whole car to jerk. Car routinely “hard shifts” when accelerating onto highway and “hard shifts” when slowing in rush hour traffic.
My Expedition Windshield fluid leaks into my front passenger floor rug. Safety issue can’t clean windshield without fluid in the tank as it is leaking into front passenger floor rug.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that after the vehicle was shifted into park, the seat belt was removed, and the contact heard a loud popping sound then the front driver’s side air bag inadvertently deployed. As a result of the failure, the seat belt retracted and burned the contact hand. No medical attention was required. The air bag warning light and the seat belt warning light illuminated. No medical attention was required. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the seat belt retractor pretensioner failed and the seat belt retractor pretensioner and air bag needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened and the contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
Vehicle parked and had just been started. Went to put on dvr seatbelt and a loud explosion happened to my left and the seatbelt shoulder strap was pulled out of my fingers. The driver seatbelt pretensioner activated without a collision and the cab filled with smoke. Vehicle has never been in a collision, ever had a restraint malfunction, is the original OEM safety component, and hasn’t been serviced/replaced for a seatbelt/airbag issue. Now, the air bag light is activated and the seatbelt is tightly fully retracted to the pillar so tight it can’t be moved at all. Access to the onboard computer can verify all the above info. Dealership stated there was an activation of the pretensioned charge on the driver seatbelt resulting in the belt fully retracting and the seatbelt no longer functioning. 2nd 2019 Ford Expedition they have seen this week with the same mishap. If this would have deployed at highway speeds, a driver may have been startled due to the loud explosion in the cab and lost control of the vehicle (I was parked). Smoke immediately entered the occupant compartment. The seat belt retracted so quickly/tightly, injury to one’s chest would have occurred.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the air bag warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed and determined that the passenger’s side seat belt pretensioner was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Later, while driving approximately 55 MPH, the front passenger’s side seat belt pretensioner suddenly deployed causing the driver to nearly lose control of the steering. During the failure there was no passenger seated in the front passenger's seat. There was no crash. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 97,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that a loud, abnormal, knocking sound would emit from the vehicle upon start of the engine without engine. The contact also stated that the vehicle would vibrate while either parked or idle at a stop light. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the vehicle was inspected; however, no defect was found with the vehicle. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be serviced or diagnosed for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, there was a loud knocking and rattling sound coming from the engine compartment and the vehicle would shake and vibrate abnormally. The contact stated that the failure had progressed and was present while the engine was idling and while parking the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 68,000.
Cam Phasers were replaced in Oct 2021 due to a service bulletin. The cam phasers are defective and have to be replaced again. This is all over forums, social media as well as dealers knowledge. Ford has redesigned the cam phasers but they refuse to cover a replacement. How is this legal when there are so many with the same problem! My Expedition is at the dealer and they have determined the issue and even filed a claim with Ford. Ford denied the claim. I don’t understand how this is even possible. This is not a small number of people with this problem. It’s massively widespread.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that upon a cold start of the engine, the vehicle would hesitate and jerk upon depression of the accelerator pedal without warning. Over time, the contact stated that the failure had become more common while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with transmission failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN related to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
pretensioner in driver's seatbelt went off without warning while driving 5 mph on smooth residential street.
April 2023 was the first time we experienced an issue. We were out of town driving on the highway, accelerating to an on-ramp when we heard a loud thud underneath the car and then lost acceleration. My husband removed his foot off the gas and then when he put pressure on the gas pedal again it began driving. During this incident we saw warning lights on the dash (a wrench and we believe a few other lights as well) and a chime noise. Since April 2023 we have had 3 to 4 other instances where the car has shifted hard, not like the usual shifting. On August 29 2023, my car was at 77,405 miles we experienced the same hard shifting incident. This time we were accelerating to change lanes on the highway when we heard a loud thud underneath the car, this time it was so loud it was like a sledgehammer underneath us, we could even feel it underneath our feet. We lost all acceleration and could not get it back. Because we lost all acceleration, my husband had to get over multiple lanes of traffic to get to the shoulder and figure out what to do next. This experience was very frightening because with no acceleration it put us at a huge risk in the middle of a very congested highway with our kids. Again, we had warning lights on the dash (a wrench) and a chime noise but it went away before we could get a picture or look at it long enough to remember if any additional lights popped up, we were too worried about pulling over to safety. After being pulled over for a few minutes, turning the car off and back on again, we were able to accelerate. We tried to take the car in to be fixed under warranty but they were not able to replicate the issue. We believe this issue it due to the power train (transmission) and it is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others.
Cam phasers gone bad even after doing a ‘reprogram’ that Ford listed as a recall. Ford then sent out a Customer Satisfaction Extension to replace the cam phasers (that we never received) but we missed the expiration date so now they are refusing to cover any of the service or parts. This is a known issue for the 3.5 engine, yet consumers are paying thousands out of pocket for a known issue.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated upon cold starting the vehicle, the engine made abnormal rattling sounds. The vehicle was turned off and restarted; however, the failure persisted for approximately 3-seconds. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while cold starting the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the cam phasers had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to Ford Campaign Number: 21N03. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included, and that the campaign had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,400.
Got into the car, and started it before I put my seatbelt on the seat belt tensioner exploded on just the drivers side. Now the seatbelt will not release.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 - 20 MPH and driving up to a red traffic light, there was a loud booming sound heard inside the cabin of the vehicle. The contact pulled to the side of the road and had the vehicle inspected where no failure was found. The contact continued driving the vehicle. The contact stated that after approximately 2-months after the failure had occurred, the contact became aware that the front passenger’s side seat belt failed to extend or retract. The contact’s spouse was an independent mechanic and inspected the vehicle after the first failure and was unable to diagnose and determine the cause of the failure. While inspecting the vehicle after the second failure, there was white residue found within the seat belt buckle; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
Transmission overheated while going 70-75 mph on the interstate without warning. I Pulled over and saw the thermostat to be overheated to 277 degrees (proof with picture). I along with my husband and 3 young kids Had to be towed 60 + miles back to my house. I was informed by 2 different mechanics the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle had 89k miles on it. I attempted have it checked by a Ford dealership (there are 4 nearby) and all had at least a 12 week waitlist to be diagnosed. During the diagnostic period my vehicle would have to remain on the lot. No dealership would provide a loaner vehicle during that time. Due to financial and work responsibilities, I was unable to do that . We went with a different mechanic to replace with a new transmission (proof with documentation). I am also on the waiting list (10 weeks) to have the cam phasers be diagnosed, this time by the ford dealership. My mechanic I used for the transmission already reported they needed to be changed but I am waiting to see what Ford says . There has been no warning of this happening
I was getting into my car to drive out of my drive way. Put on my seatbelt(driver side). Started to put it in drive then I heard a loud pop, then it felt like something hit my chest. My husband and daughter were in the car with me and didn’t see anything. I could smell a slight burning smell. After recovering from the pain I opened the door to try to see what happened. We notice the driver side seatbelt would not retract and was loose. We have called the local dealership to bring in.
Hard shifts by the transmission, an extreme lack of shifts by the transmission resulting in stalling out on highway as if it was in neutral, jumping multiple gears at one time, trying to shift once it reached the final gear, Ford took 6 months to rebuild my transmission and when I got it back the sunroof was broken and leaking in my passenger floorboard, a month later I’m still have loud whining noises from start and leaking coolant, it is now back in the shop, while being covered under a certified pre owned warranty, we bought it from a dealership a little over 2 years ago and it has been in the shop for these repairs and others a total of 10 months.
On at least six occasions in the last few months, the transmission has disengaged while attempting to accelerate. This has happened most frequently when attempting to merge into traffic on the freeway. The transmission disengages, the engine revs, and no power is transmitted to the tires. The car coasts in neutral until the transmission re-engages. The loss of power and duration for which the transmission is not working poses a major safety problem--right when you need to accelerate to merge safely into traffic, all power is lost. In some cases, the transmission will re-engage while the engine RPMs are still elevated and the gear will make a loud noise and the vehicle will jerk. I've taken the vehicle to a Ford dealer for service under warranty and the dealer provided no information other than a general "something's certainly wrong and we need to open it up and start rebuilding things" response. They say they're over 3 months out before they have time to start repairs. I have been unable to actually schedule these repairs with the dealer after multiple contacts. I'm worried that Ford has no resolution to this issue and hopes to make it through to the end of the warranty period without providing any resolution. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Transmission; yes. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Yes. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Unknown. The dealer's service center confirms something is wrong, but could not provide specifics. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? A Ford dealer's service center. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? The digital display on the dash has, in some instances, flashed "see owners manual" when power has been lost.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle and while driving at various speeds, there was a grinding and rattling sound coming from the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rattling was coming from the cam phaser. The independent mechanic related the failure to NHTSA ID Number: 0201090 (Engine and Engine Cooling) and referred the contact to the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and it was confirmed the vehicle was not included in NHTSA ID Number: 0201090 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was 79,427.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while his wife was driving at 40 mph, she heard a loud abnormal noise and began to feel pressure on her chest due to the seat belt. The driver stated the air bag warning light was illuminated for a couple of days before the incident. The driver continued driving to her destination and after parking the vehicle she noticed the front driver-side seat was extremely tight but was able to unlatch and exit the vehicle. The driver did not seek medical attention. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the front driver side seat belt tensioner to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.
The transmission on this vehicle slips in and out of gear . It is very dangerous trying to merge into traffic. It make a high pitch sound and smells a burning smell. I have not taken it to the shop yet but will have to in the near future.
The 10 speed transmission has harsh shifting, jerking, hesitation, slipping, delayed gear changes and lurching forward while driving. The issue is apparent typically between 3rd and 4th gear, and 6th and 7th gear. The dealership mentioned it was a computer programming issue and has reset it twice, but the car continues to have these issues. Apparently this issue is cause by the way the drum was manufactured according this Ford Technician: [XXX] If it's a known issue, and it was fixed in the newer models, I hope Ford does a recall to replace. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The vehicle was parked when we heard a loud popping noise. I then saw white powder and smelled a horrible smell. Upon inspection the passenger seat side panel had popped open. It seemed like an airbag had deployed. I had a restraint indicator light on at that point. It was taken to a Ford dealership where they told me it couldn’t have been an airbag it was just a faulty seatbelt sensor. Which by the way there was a recall for that exact thing on the 2020 but, not the 2019 so 750$ later.. they’re going to fix it.
On July 24th 2023, at approximately 2:15pm my wife and I were completely stopped at a red traffic light on 66th St N that crosses Ulmerton Rd in Pinellas County Florida. We were talking and listening to the radio, when all of a sudden, a loud shotgun or explosive sound filled the vehicle. I got hit with something in the chest that felt like a punch or a kick, knocking me out of breath. But my wife only heard the extremely loud noise. I was clutching my chest in pain as I thought I was shot. When the light turned green, I immediately pulled into a Dunkin donuts parking lot, and we exited the vehicle. There was no damage whatsoever on the inside and outside of the vehicle, but we smelled gun powder. My driver's seatbelt was stuck in the retracted position. I slowly drove to my home at 6500 30th Avenue N, St Petersburg, Fl 33710. I immediately called the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department to report the incident, because at the time I thought it was a gunshot. They have a record under my phone number. I had no idea what the loud gun sound was, so I started to research and found the driver's seat belt tensioner charge must have gone off. I called Auto Nation Ford and made an emergency appointment to bring the vehicle in. I explained everything to them, then dropped the vehicle off. Upon doing a full inspection, the Auto Nation Ford mechanic determined there was a factory short in the air bag circuit, which caused the seatbelt tensioner charge to explode. They found the location, under the center console & replaced all necessary wiring, sensors, modules, tensioner & seatbelt. I researched and found recalls for 2020 Expeditions and 2018 F150 pickups, but there was no recall for the 2019 Expedition. I can't imagine what would have happened if we were going fast on an interstate when it happened. Now I get in my 2 Ford vehicles and worry about it happening again. t turned out the kick in the chest was the seatbelt retracting 4 inches pulling me back in the seat.
When crossing an intersection my vehicles RPMs went up but there was no acceleration, after a few seconds the car found the gear and went across. There hasn't been any lights on for any issues. Trying to find somewhere to take it because the transmission is done. had we been hit with my kids in the vehicle ford would have a bigger issue at hand.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic, and the vehicle was diagnosed with needing the Variable Timing Control (VTC) actuator to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with TSB: 21-2119; however, the VIN was not included. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
Loud knocking from engine. No check engine light came on. Dealer found the cam phasers faulty and could possibly lead to engine failure if not repaired which would put occupants in danger. Banner Ford in Monroe Louisiana performed repair at owners expense.
Transmission randomly shifts out of gear while trying to accelerate creating an unsafe driving condition. This usually happens at Highway speeds.
My truck does this during, gears shifts 3-4- them 3,4,t complete gri g like people noise somewhere around 15 mph - 20 mph. Happens 80% of the time when I'm slowing down coming around a curve on a slight inclin, 5gear sounds like it's grinding in then it dowm shifts to 4th and slows down very fast..then downs hard shift with clunk upto 5th when speeding up after that slight turn . Seem to get worse after 95,500 miles
AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE TRANSMISSION WILL LOSE ALL POWER LIKE IT'S IN NEUTRAL. THE VEHICLE WILL HAVE NO POWER WHEN THIS HAPPENS. FORD HAS HAD A TSB FOR THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL.
Transmission has been clunky since new purchase in 2019. Has been to dealer several times for diagnosis. No resolution. Usually cannot reproduce when dealer has car. Recently dealer did some work on the transmission and then it failed on a long highway trip. Transmission overheated. Went into limp mode. Now stuck at a dealer 300 miles away. Dealer can’t reproduce the problem when they drive it around the block and somehow there are no obd codes so they won’t do any work on it, but also ford won’t pay to have it transported to our home dealer.
I own a 2019 Ford Expedition Max (10R80 trans) & have experienced intermit. issues with the vehicle failing to shift into a higher gear when accelerating rapidly & getting stuck in a high RPM unless the accelerator is released. When releasing the accelerator there is a violent clunk & jerking. I have expressed this issue to Ford’s Service Department at the dealership. When intaking my vehicle the service advisor made a comment to another advisor that we have another Expedition with shifting issues. The advisor stated that this seemed to be a common issue with these vehicles, so I researched the issue online myself & found several threads with the same reported issue to include class action lawsuit websites for this issue. I paid Ford’s Service Department to diagnose the vehicle and they found no issues with the transmission and said it was okay and they weren’t able to replicate the issue (this is because it is an intermit. issue). The advisor stated that the transmission has an adaptive learn system and stated that the adaptive learn could be having issues, so I asked them to keep the vehicle and flash the adaptive learn or do a reset. I had them flash the system and it seemed to resolve the issue for a while, but it later returned. I then attempted contacting Ford Customer Service (Corporate) directly and explained the issue to them however they directed right back to the dealership. Recently I went to West Virginia for vacation and was traveling on the interstate. While traveling on the interstate at about 55 mph I was in a situation where I needed to rapidly accelerate due to an 18-wheeler changing lanes into my lane. The vehicle failed to accelerate/shift into a higher gear and being stuck in high RPMs. We were nearly KILLED in this incident and this is what prompted me to contact the NHTSA. I am also a law enforcement officer of over 15 years. It is my professional and personal opinion that this issue is an EXTREME DANGER to the occupants of these vehicles.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the engine was shuddering. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the cam phaser needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03 (Cam Phaser Replacement); however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was 67,469.
The cam phasers on my vehicle need replaced, and the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. I took the vehicle to Ford initially and was told "they didn't have a mechanic" that could address the issue on a Saturday, and completely dismissed the concern and only changed my oil. I have since had two separate mechanics diagnose the problem, and each independently determined the cam phasers are the issue. My safety isn't at risk, as I understand it the cam phasers aren't a safety issue. I was told by Ford that they couldn't answer my questions or help me, and was directed to contact NHTSA with my concern. There are no warning lamps or messages; the problem was identified by the audible noise presented at start up. I contacted Ford after I became aware that there were CSP's issued with regard to the CAM phasers, but Ford stated my VIN wasn't assigned to the CSP. However, the CSP identifies a specific build plant, and build date, both of which my vehicle falls under. So there is no plausible explanation for how they did not assign my VIN to the CSP, therefore I was not notified back in 2022 or 2023 of the issue, so I had no chance to rectify the issue when the problems occurred, nor was I made aware that this issue might arise.
I own a 2019 Expedition XLT. I was traveling on the highway; I was in the right lane and was stuck behind a slow moving vehicle. I put on my blinker and waited for an opening in traffic, to move into the middle lane. Once there was an opening, I pressed the gas to accelerate into the lane. While the truck should have properly shifted and accelerated; instead the powertrain completely disengaged and I lost all power. The RPM's jumped all the way up. The truck was revving so high, but it was actually slowing down. I took my foot of the gas pedal and as the RPM came back down, the transmission slammed back into place with a horrible loud clunking sound that jolted the entire vehicle. After that, I was finally able to accelerate. This same situation has happened to me on several separate occasions. It is very scary having my 3 children in the vehicle and it losing power as I'm trying to make a move to be safe.
When turning into a parking lot and putting the brakes on, the explosive charge in the seat belt went off with painful compression of the chest by the seat belt in the drivers seat. The air bag did not inflate. I was able to get the seat belt off my chest, but it was fixed by the mechanism and would not extend for use after that.
2019 Ford Expedition engine rattles on cold start, while driving at highway speeds, loss of engine power, and when Auto start/stop engages, it will, at times, "catch" and turn vehicle off due to lack of engine power- it will then flash a warning message stating driver must shift to park, then restart vehicle. Cam Phaser/Cam shaft wears prematurely, thus, not allowing it to open and close valves related to the crankshaft and pistons, which in turn poses a risk to both the vehicle operator as well as drivers on the road. Safety is a put at risk due to the cam phaser adjusting the camshaft so the car responds to low RPM- This causes reduced engine power and potential stalling- which is a major concern when driving any vehicle, especially on freeways with small children in the car. This problem has been confirmed by a dealing, specifically a dealer services manager, who stated "its a very known issue and somehow hasn't been recalled yet". The vehicle has been inspected a ford service manager The first known symptom is the rattle sound upon cold start, then other symptoms arose such as the lack of engine power, stalling, and auto start/stop not working correctly. The only "warning" is that of the auto start/stop malfunction that offers upon stalling (at a stop speed), this does not include stalling when at highway speeds.
This vehicle has been to the dealer multiple times to check hard-shifting and shuttering. Could not replicate at dealer. On 5/27/23 500 miles into a 2k mile road trip the vehicle hard shifted- felt like we hit something, then lost all acceleration. Would not accelerate. Narrowly missing being hit by several cars as I moved it from the fast lane into shoulder. Trying to accelerate the whole time. It finally reengaged with another jolt. This vehicle has 76,000 miles on it at the time. It went into a dealer on 5/30. They confirmed the transmission was slipping into neutral on its own. They have had it ever since and now say it will be 2-3 weeks before repaired. Meanwhile - I was stuck 500 miles away from home.
In December 2022, my Expedition had a problem shifting while climbing hills. The transmission fluid was also overheating. We took it into the shop, but they didn’t find any issues. Over the past month, the transmission has been significantly hesitating and clunky. The local dealership have no transmission appointments until July 2023.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition The contact stated while at a stop light, the vehicle started shaking and the contact heard a rattling sound coming from the vehicle. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the cam phaser needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted no assistance was provided. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 82,000.
In the past year, the horn has gone off several times when car was locked and no one in it. Recently the horn stopped working with the key fob when locking the car and then this past week the horn has completely stopped working. This has been a faulty horn from the beginning and after doing a bit of research I see that others have had the same issue. This can become a safety issue as I realized it when someone cut in front of me and the horn did not work.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the vehicle made an abnormal sound. The contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program 21N03: (Cam Phaser). The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the contact that the cam timing unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 148,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was shaking while idling with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the camshaft phaser needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed a credit $2,500 toward the cost of the repair. The contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03 (Cam Phaser Replacement); however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was 61,941.
Would like to determine why vehicle was not included in recall 21B10 or 21N03 for cam phaser rattle.
There is an issue with the 3.5L GTDI engine cam phasers, identical to known recall FSA 21N03. This vehicle was not included in the mentioned recall as the manufacture location was other than those listed in recall FSA 21N03.
In May 2023, our 2019 Expedition Max began experiencing intermittent stuttering at various speeds. Initially, we didn't consider it a major issue since the Check Engine light never illuminated. However, the problem worsened over time. Upon seeking advice, we took it to the dealer for inspection, only to be told a day later that they found no issues. We suspect the technician simply connected a diagnostic machine to the car's computer to check for faults. Despite our concerns, we ultimately had to replace the entire transmission, a process that dragged on for four months. My main concern is the car's apparent inability to detect serious engine problems. We originally purchased the vehicle to accommodate our large family, but now I'm deeply worried about their safety. This raises serious questions about the reliability and safety features of this model, prompting me to urge for a recall and replacement of faulty components.
Not sure if this is the right place but it’s the cam Phaser rattle issue on the Ford 3.5 it happened to my 2012 F150 and now it happened on my 2019 expedition started about 80,000 miles now has 115 and they have refused to pay. This has been happening for at least 12 years with no accountability to ford Something needs to be done because it’s like a $4500 repair and they know that it’s a problem with these engines, but they keep selling them without fixing the problem please make them do a recall on this issue
This vehicle with 72,000 miles on it was experiencing a rattle upon start on cold mornings for about two months, it didn't happen every time and only on initial start. Mechanic couldn't get the incident to happen in his presence to diagnose and no codes reported from computer diagnostic equipment. In February 2023, the vehicle lost power while highway driving and seemed to having problems shifting. The check engine and powertrain malfunction indicator both came on. Drove the vehicle immediately to mechanic. Booster sensor replacement was indicated by computer diagnostic and was replaced. On 4/16/2023 the check engine light came on briefly while driving and then went out and did not come back on. On 4/18/2023 while driving on the highway the vehicle started making a loud clanking with black smoke from exhaust pipe. We had the vehicle towed to mechanic. Over 30 diagnostic codes reported and mechanic recommended we take the vehicle to a Ford dealership. We had the vehicle towed to the local Ford dealership and have been informed that this 4 year old, 72,000 mile vehicle needs a complete engine replacement for $18,222. They do not know what caused the problem without pulling the whole engine and opening it up, but recommend a full replacement. We have contacted Ford and opened a case with them, but since the vehicle had a 60,000 mile power train warranty there is nothing that Ford is willing to do.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the low oil pressure warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a defective oil pump. Additionally, the contact was also informed that the cam phasers were defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
