WHILE TURNING ONTO ANOTHER ROAD, I SAW FLAMES COMING FROM THE FRONT PASSANGER WHEELWELL. THE FIRE COMPLETELY TOTALED THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE CAME FROM THE FRONT PASS. SIDE, FROM A WIRING HARNESS OR A/C UNIT. NOBODY WOULD HELP, EVEN AFTER OTHER OWNERS HAD TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME 2 ITEMS ON THEIR EXPLORERS. VELDE FORD OR FO MO CO WOULD NOT DISCLOSE ANY INFO, OR PROVIDE ANY HELP IN THIS MATTER.
WHILE TRAVELING 35MPH ALTERNATOR LIGHT CAME ON. THEN VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER & BECAME OVERHEATED. PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD. VEHICLE TOWED TO SERVICE STATION. WAS TOLD SHAFT BETWEEN WATER PUMP & CLUTCH FAN HAD SEVERED. ENTIRE UNIT HAD SIDEWARD & DISENGAGED ALL THE BELTS. *AK
CONNECTION PART FROM THE FUSE BOX TO THE TRANSMISSION FAILED CAUSING COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION.
REPORTED PREVIOUSLY THAT IGNITION SWITCH FAILED. FOUND THAT CIRCUIT BOARD SHORTED DUE TO LACK OF FUSES OR FUSABLE LINKS. THE CIRCUIT BOARD WAS AJACENT TO THE IGNITION SWITCH.
PLASTIC RADIATOR FAN HAD 15 CRACKS CAUSING A CHUNK OF THE BLADE TO BREAK OFF DURING A OPEN HOOD INSPECTION.
TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, CAUSING A RAPID SLOWDOWN.
PE96-074; WHILE TRAVELING AT 30 MPH THE SUN ROOF BLEW OFF THE VEHICLE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE TRUCK SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER WITHOUT WARNING BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION INSPECTION HATCH CAME OFF, AND ALL TRANSMSSION FLUID WAS PUMPED OUT. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN CORRECTED BY DEALER. *AK
HANDLE ON THE INSIDE OF THE REAR DOOR IS A SAFETY HAZARD, CONSUMER WAS INJURED IN THE HEAD TRYING TO CLOSE DOOR.
VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR. WOULD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER. TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. *AK
THERE WAS A SMELL OF GAS IN THE VEHICLE AND THAT THE FUEL TANK LEAKED. THE FUEL SENDING UNIT HAS BEEN REPLACED BY A MECHANIC. THE FILLER NECK WAS BEGINNING TO RUST. *AK
WIRING TO THE MIRRORS AND DOOR LOCKS SHORTED AND SMOKE WAS VISIBLE FROM THE DASHBOARD AND A STRONG ODOR WAS PRESENT.
THE CABLE THAT HOLDS THE SPARE TIRE IN POSITION DETERIORATED THROUGH CORROSION TO THE POINT IT NO LONGER HELD TIRE AND FELL OFF.
DRIVER'S SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE MALFUNCTIONED. ALSO,CENTER CONSOLE PADDED ARM RESTMOUNT FAILED.
ELECTRICAL FIRE.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION/OVERDRIVE MALFUNCTIONED.
HEAT FROM THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER OVERHEATED THE TRANSMISSION AND THE TRANSMISSION FAILED.
WE WERE GOING ON VACATION AND HAD A BLOWOUT ON THE LEFT REAR AT 65 MPH IN THE FAST LANE OF INTERSTATE 10 . THE CAR BEGAN FISHTAILING AND I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER. MY WIFE ASKED WHY I WAS PULLING OVER AT FIRST BECAUSE SHE COULD NOT FEEL THE PROBLEM. IT SCARES ME TO DEATH TO THINK OF WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF SHE WERE DRIVING ALONE AT THE TIME OR WITH OUR DAUGHTER. THEY MAY HAVE BECOOME STATISTICS LIKE SO MANY OTHERS IN EXPLORERS EQUIPPED WITH THESE TIRES. UNFORTUNATELY, I STILL HAVE 5 OF THESE FIRESTONES, AND THE WAIT IS MONTHS TO HAVE THEM REPLACED. WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 80 MPH HEARD NOISE COMING FROM RIGHT REAR TIRE, THEN STOPPED AND FOUND OUT THAT TREAD HAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE. FIRESTONE, RADIAL ATX, 235/75 R15 DOT VNHL1M0202. *AK FIRESTONE CLAIMS THAT IT WAS THE DRIVER'S FAULT BUT THE FACT WAS THAT THE TIRE TREAD SEPARATED ACCORDING TO THE CUSTOMER. *YH
ENGINE RUNNING ROUGH AT SLOW IDLE BUT OK AT FAST IDLE.
TRANSMISSION FAILURE.
REAR DOOR OPENED DURING CRASH.
THE FRONT RADIUS ARM BUSHINGS HAVE FAILED TWICE, I-BEAM BUSHING FAILED ONCE. THRUST BEARINGS ALSO FAILED, RELATED TO A-ARM BUSHINGS. *AK
WAS DRIVING 65MPH WHEN RIGHT REAR TIRE HAD A BLOWOUT. THIS CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE TAIL PIPE. WAS BARELY ABLE TO CONTROL VEHICLE. TREAD HAD SEPARATED ON THE OUTSIDE & THEN WENT FLAT. HAD ALL 4 TIRES REPLACED DUE TO CRACKS IN THE TREAD. FIRESTONE ,LT235/75R15 WITH 53,000 MILES ON IT.*AK
DRIVER'S SEATBACK BOLT FAILED, AND THE DRIVER'S SEATBACK LOST VERTICAL SUPPORT, PIVOTING FLAT TO THE REAR. *AK
SPARE TIRE WINCH BROKE.
A SECTION OF THE TIRE PEALED OFF AND TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH SPARE OF SAME TYPE. I STILL OWN THE SPARE BUT HAVE REPLACED ALL OTHER TIRES. NOTE THE TIRE IN QUESTION IS NOT INCLUDED IN YOUR RECALL BUT SHOULD BE! *AK( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 22575R15 )
POP UP SUN ROOF BLEW OFF WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH.
GLASS PANEL TO SUN ROOF FLEW OFF.
ELECTRICAL: STARTED VEHICLE AND WENT DOWN THE STREET ABOUT 500 FEET AND SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE VENT. TURNED VEHICLE OFF, AND FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME TOWED VEHICLE TO DEALER. VEHICLE DID NOT CATCH FIRE, BUT SMOKE WAS COMING FROM PANEL. *AK
SUNROOF BLEW OFF OF THE VEHICLE AND HIT HIGHWAY.
TREAD CAME OFF OF TIRES, DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE AND HIT AN EIGHTEEN WHEELER. TIRES HAD RESENTLY BEEN INSPECTED AND WERE IN GOOD CONDITION.
TRANSMISSION FAILED DUE TO FAULTY DESIGN OF THE FIRST/SECOND GEAR SYNCHRONIZER WHICH HAS SINCE BEEN REDESIGNED.
WHEN VEHICLE IS BEING PARKED, IT WOULD ROCK & CAN SMELL GASOLINE FUMES; HAVE LESS THAN 1/2 TANK, BUT STILL STRONG ODOR; IS AN ITERMITTENT PROBLEM, ONLY HAPPENS IF VEHICLE ROCKS. CALLED MANUFACTURER ABOUT 4 TIMES BUT TOLD WAS NORMAL. *AK
VEHICLE EXPERIENCES SEVERE VIBRATION. DEALER ATTEMPTED TO FIX IT SEVERAL TIMES, BUT PROBLEM CONTINUES. ALSO, BRACKETS THAT CONNECT THE HYDRAULIC CYLINDERS TO REAR LIFTGATE TO PULLED AWAY FROM INSIDE OF THE LIFTGATE PRIOR TO RECALL (95V-164-001) *AK
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE THE METAL FRAME THAT HOLDS THE SEAT TOGETHER BROKE, CAUSING THE SEAT TO FALL BACK WHILE THE DRIVER IS DRIVING. THAT COULD OF CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *AK
CRUISE CONTROL FAILED AND COULD NOT BE DISENGAGED, CAUSING NEAR ACCIDENT DUE TO LOSS OF CONTROL.
SUN ROOF FLEW OFF OF VEHICLE, RECALL ON SAME MODEL YEAR HOWEVER CONSUMERS VEHICLE DID NOT MEET THE RECALL QUALIFICATIONS.
ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON JUNE 7, 1997 APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES SOUTH OF MONTGOMERY, AL. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND I TRAILED HER IN MY EXPLORER. THE TIRE ON THE RIGHT REAR OF HER EXPLORER SEPARATED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SPIN AND THEN LEAVE THE HIGHWAY. IT OVERTURNED AS IT SLID DOWN AN INCLINE. THE VEHICLE THEN FLIPPED RIGHT SIDE UP AND SLID INTO A FENCE POST. THE TIRE NEVER DEFLATED, BUT ALL OF THE STEEL BELT WAS GONE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED BY SOUTHERN UNITED FIRE INSURANCE COMPANY. IT WAS REPLACED BY A 1997 FORD EXPLORER.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P235/75R15 )
NO OIL IS SUPPLIED TO THE FRONTMOST GEARS (4TH) WHILE CRUISING.
BRAKES CALIPER: WHLE DRIVING DOESN'T MATTER AT WHAT SPEED, UPON BRAKING THERE'S A GRINDING NOISE, VEHICLE SHIMMERS. HAS TO USE EXCESSIVE FORCE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. *AK *ML
ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE POSSIBLY DUE TO IGNITION. UNABLE TO DETERMINE EXACT CAUSE. *AK
THIS INCIDENT WAS REPEATED THREE TIMES BEFORE THE DEALERSHIP FINALLY DISCOVERED THE CAUSE. THIS INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO USAA INSURANCE CO. BUT NO CLAIM WAS SUBMITTED.
SWITCH UNDER THE HOOD THAT IS CONNECTED TO LIGHT STARTED HOOD FIRE. *AK
EXPERIENCED COMPLETE BRAKE LOSS DUE TO FAILURE OF THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE HOSE. THE HOSE WAS CONTACTING A NUT WHICH BOLTS THE LOWER SWAY BAR TO THE CHASSIS. THE SWAY BAR BOLTS, WHICH WERE INSTALLED DURING ASSEMBLY, ARE ORIENTED WITH THE HEAD OF THE BOLT FACING OUTBOARD. *AK
THE SUNROOF BLEW OFF WHILE ON THE FREEWAY AT THE SPEED OF 65MPH. *AK *SLC
BRAKE LINE RUSTED, CAUSING THE BRAKES NOT TO WORK, A CRASH ALMOST TOOK PLACE BECAUSE CONSUMER COULDNT STOP VEHICLE. *AK

DUE TO DESIGN OF THE MUFFLER/RESONATOR/TAIL PIPE, THE RESONATOR ANGLED DOWN LOWER THAN ANYTHING ELSE AND HOLDS WATER, RUSTED OUT, CAUSING TAIL PIPE TO DISCONNECT. *AK
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WENT ONTO THE SHOULDER DUE TO DRIVER ERROR, THE DRIVER TRIED TO STEER VEHICLE ONTO THE ROADWAY, OVERSTEERING ON LOOSE GRAVEL, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO REGAIN CONTROL THE RIGHT FRONT (FIRESTONE ATX) TIRE LOST AIR PRESSURE, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ROLLOVER, WHICH RESULTED IN INJURIES TO PASSENGERS. *MJS
