WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE ABOVE (55) MPH THERE IS EXTREME VIBRATION COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF VEHICLE. VEHCLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. *AK
DUE TO A CORRODED POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE, POWER WENT OUT, CD CHANGER FAILED AND THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION COOLER LINE BURSTED.
DRIVING 35MPH ON NORTH SIDE, HEARD A LOUD NOISE , SLOWED DOWN AND VEHICLE STARTED SKIDDING. APPLIED BRAKES, VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SLIDE.BEARING ON SPINDLE DISENGAGED AND CHEWED UP END OF SPINDLE. *AK
IGNITION SWITCH FIRE.
ENGINE FLY WHEEL MALFUNCTIONED/REPLACED. *AK
THE BRAKES AND EXHAUST SYSTEM IN THE TAILPIPE WERE HOT, EXHAUST ON THE METAL CLAD BRAKE LINE IN WHICH THE INSIDE IS PLASTIC AND CAUSE IT TO MELT, RESULTING IN BRAKE LOSS AND LOCK UP. *AK
EA99004; THE LEAVES/PINES, ETC, ACCUMULATED IN THE BLOWER ASSEMBLY, CAUSING HEATER COIL TO HEAT UP AND RESULTING IN SMOKE AND A FIRE. HAPPENED 3 TIMES. DLR SAID CONSUMER NEEDED TO KEEP CLEANING OUT THE BLOWER. *AK *ML
SUV IS GARAGED KEPT, HOWEVER CLEAR COAT IS PEELING/FLAKING TO THE POINT WHERE BASE PRIMER IS VISIBLE. NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN WITH OLDER FORD SUV AS WELL AS OTHER BRAND SUV. CONCERN IS WHETHER OR NOT THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF BAD BATCH (LOT) OF PAINT FOR THIS VEHICAL YEAR AND IF FORD WILL REPAINT DAMAGED AREAS.
PULLING OFF A ROAD TO GET ONTO AN INTERSTATE AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK, HAD TO PUT GEAR IN PARK POSITION IN ORDER TO STOP AND EVERYTHING WAS BURNING. *AK
SHIFTED FROM PARK TO REVERSE, ENGINE ACCELERATED, LURCHED BACKWARD, HIT A POLE, ENGINE KEPT RACING, WHEELS KEPT SPINNING, VEHICLE BOUNCED OFF POLE REPEATEDLY, SHIFTED TO DRIVE, VEHICLE TOOK OFF, HIT A BUILDING, THEN STOPPED, NO PRIOR WARNING. *AK
SPARE TIRE CABLE BROKE WHILE DRIVING , CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOSE ITS EXHAUST SYSTEM, *AK
IHAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR INTERIOR DOOR PANELS FOR ABOUT 2 YRS.THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE PORTION OF THE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL WHERE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO GRAB THE DOOR TO CLOSE IT.ALL THE SALVAGE YARDS SAY THE SAME THING"IDONT HAVE TO LOOK THAT UP, I KNOW WE DONT HAVE ANY, THERE ALL BROKEN". MY CHILDREN HAVE SCRATCHED THEIR ARMS ON THE BROKEN PLASTIC THAT IS LEFT BEHIND AFTER THE DOOR PULL/ARMREST BREAKS OFF.SINCE I HAVE BEEN UNSUCSSFUL IN TRING TO LOCATE A REPLACEMENT I CAN ONLY CONCLUDE THAT THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM. IT MAKES SHUTTING THE FRONT DOORS DIFFICULT AS THERE IS NO PLACE TO GRAB THE DOOR TO CLOSE IT. THIS IS A REAL HASSLE WHEN PARKED ON A HILL OR IT IS WINDY, AS THE ONLY THING TO GRAB IS THE DOOR HANDLE HALF THE TIME THE DOOR DOSENT LATCH FULLY MAKING IN NESSESSARY TO OPEN THE WINDOW AND GRAB THE TOP OF THE WINDOW TO SHUT THE DOOR FULLY, CREATING A SECOND HAZARD BY OPENING UP THE POSSIBILITIES OF BREAKING THE WINDOW. MY CHILDREN AS I MENTIONED HAVE BEEN SCRATCHED BADLY ENOUGH TO DRAW BLOOD ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS,AND MY WIFE HAS RUINED A COUPLE OF SWEATERS BY GETTING THEM SNAGGED ON THE JAGGED PLASTIC. FORD WANTS OVER 100.00 PER DOOR TO REPLACE THEM(I NEED ALL FOUR) AND FRANKLY ICANT AFFORD IT AND DONT THINK I SHOULD HAVE TO. THANK YOU. *AK
CRUISE CONTROL WAS ENGAGED, AND WOULD NOT DISENGAGE, TO STOP VEHICLE PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, PULLED AWAY AND KEPT APPLYING BRAKES , VEHICLE WAS IN A HIGH IDLE POSITION. *AK *SLC

A THIN NEOPHRANE TOWER SEAL DRIED OUT, CAUSING A SUDEN LOSS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID, RESULTIN GIN TRANSMISSION FAILURE. *AK
VEHICLE WAS PLUGGED INTO AN ENGINE BLOCK HEATER WHEN IT CAUGHT ON FIRE.*AK *JB
CAR SEAT NOT COMPATIBLE WITH CENTURY CHILD SEAT, ALLOWING SEAT TO MOVE FROM SIDE TO SIDE.
WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH TRANSMISSION DIED OUT, AND THE VEHICLE WENT INTO NEUTRAL AND WOULDN'T SHIFT INTO LOW GEAR. THIS WAS THE 4TH TRANSMISSION THAT CONSUMER HAD TO REPLACE, AND THE DEALER CAN'T DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK
I WANTED TO ENSURE THAT THE DEATH OF MY SON AND HIS GIRLFRIEND IN A FORD EXPLORER, SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT INVOLVING BLOWOUT OF THE FIRSESTONE TIRE WERE INCLUDED IN THE INFORMATION YOU HAVE ON THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE SAFETY ISSUE. THEIR NAMES WERE JONATHAN RILEY AND KACEY CROWE. THEY WERE KILLED WHEN THE FORD EXPLORER WITH FIRESTONE ATX TIRES FLIPPED AFTER THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT ON NOVEMBER 1, 1996. THE FORD EXPLORER HAD APPROX. 60,000 MILES ON IT AND THE ORIGINAL FIRESTONE ATX TIRES HAD RECENTLY BEEN REPLACED WITH NEW FIRESTONE ATX TIRES A FEW MONTHS BEFORE THE ACCIDENT. I WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE INFORMATION ON THE STATUS OF THE INVESTIGATION.( DOT NUMBER: )

WHEN DRIVNG ON HIGHWAY CAN'T SHIFT GEAR, TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT GEARS ARE STRIPPED. *AK
GEARSHIFT RAIL PLUGS CRACKED, CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION FLUID TO LEAK OUT. *AK
TIRES HAVE NO TRACTION, CAUSING VEHICLE TO SKID IN INCLEMENT WEATHER.
4-WHEEL DRIVE LOCKING HUBS FAILED.
SUDDEN ACCELERATION AT SPEEDS OF 5 TO 60 MPH.

NEW VEHICLE W/FIRESTONE P235 OWL ALL-TERRAIN TIRES (UPGRADED OPTION $228.00) IN AUG, 1992. BY SEPT, 1996, HAD REPLACED 3 ORIG TIRES (50,000 MI WARRANTY). 4TH ORIG TIRE FAILED OCT 18, 1996 & REPLACED 1 ORIG & 3 REPLACEMENT (FIRESTONE RADL ATX II 237575R15) W/FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT 23575R15XL. HWY BLOWOUT OF 23575R15XL IN AUG, 1999. ALL NEW TIRES SHOW 3-4" CRACKING ON SIDEWALL( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 23575R15XL )
BRAKE SYSTEM: THE BRAKES GRAB FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME, DEALER STATES BRAKE SHOES NEED REPLACING. REPLACED THE BRAKE SHOES BUT THE PROBLEM WOULD REOCCURS. *AK

CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO START TRUCK, IT WOULDN'T START, TOOK IT TO THE A DEALER, THE POWER CABLE WAS BURNED OUT, TRUCK WOULDN'T START . PLEASE DESCRIBE .**AK
LUG NUT STEMS BROKE, CAUSING TIRE/RIM TO FALL OFF.
LEAVES GETTING INTO VENTILATION/HEATING SYSTEM RESULTING FIRES AND CAUSING SMOKE TO COME INTO PASSENGER COMPARTMENT THROUGH THE VENTS.
DRIVER SEAT LAP/SHOULDER BELT BROKE WHILE DRIVING. *AK
WHEN DRIVING AT 55 MPH THE WHOLE VEHICLE SHAKES. OWNER TOOK VEHICLE TO GOODYEAR AND THEY SAID THAT IT WAS AN ALIGNMENT PROBEM, BUT CANNOT BE FIXED BECAUSE OF THE WAY THE FRAME IS MADE. *AK THE VEHICLE CAN NOT BE PROPERLY ALIGNED AND VIBRATES AFTER 50 MPH. *YH
AT ANY SPEED THE STEERING GEAR BOX STARTS DEGRADING WHICH CAUSES THE TRUCK TO DRIFT AND WANDER ALL OVER THE ROAD. *AK CONSUMER STATES DEALER RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT OF THE GEAR BOX, DEALER STATED THE GEAR BOX COULD NOT BE ADJUSTED. *SLC
VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE. PLEASE DESCRIBE. *AK
THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES LOCKED UP WHILE SLOWING FOR A 15MPH CURVE AND THE EXPLORER TRACKED STRAIGHT AHEAD. ANY AND ALL BRAKING SEEMED USELESS DURING THE ATTEMPTED DECELARATION PROCESS. I'M TARDY IN REPORTING THIS EVENT,BUT A SIMILAR ACCIDENT BY FRIENDS OF OURS IN A 1993 EXPLORER MADE ME THINK THEV WHOLE ACCIDENT OVER. I FIRMLY BELIEVE FORD HAS A PROBLEM WITH THEIR EARLIER EXPLORERS IN REGARDS TO ABS/DISC BRAKES/AND SLOWING IN GENERAL. WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THIS IS AN ISOLATED EVENT OR WHETHER THIS IS SOMEWHAT COMMOM IN THE EARLIER PRODUCTION EXPLORERS.

POOR ABS BRAKE PERFORMANCE, THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. THE PEDAL WAS SOFT, AND WENT TO THE FLOOR. PARTIAL BRAKE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED. THE MASTER CYLINDER HAD A LEAK. *AK
THE TRUCK HAS A REALLY BAD SHIMMY WHEN GOING OVER 50MPH BECAUSE OF THE MOTOR MOUNTS,AND SWAY BARS. PLEASE DESCRIBE. *AK
FRONT END RADIUS ARM BUSHING DETERIORATED, CAUSING FRONT END NOISE AND STEERING PROBLEMS. *DH
FRONT SUSPENSION, FAULTY OF SHIM PLATE OR BUSHING, TO REPAIR FRONT END PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE WHEN MASTER CYLINDER BRAKE BOOSTER SEPARATED, RESULTING IN PEDAL GOING TO FLOOR DUE TO LOSS OF BRAKE. LINE PRESSURE. *AK *JB
WHILE DRIVING, ONE LUG NUT CAME OFF, REMAING BOLTS BROKE, CAUSING TIRE TO COME OFF; SPEED 55 MPH. *AK
THE FIRESTONE ATX TIRES P235/75R15 WERE ON THIS EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH FRONT LEFT TIRE BLEWOUT. THERE WAS MAJOR DAMAGE, IT CAUSED A SIDE SWIPE OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. TIRE MANUFACTURER OR FORD HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED. *AK THE TIRE THAT FAILED WAS DESTROYED DUE TO ACCIDENT DAMAGE FOLLOWING THE BLOW OUT. *YH
TRANSMISSION SHAFT DISCONNECTED, CAUSING SMOKE.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN, LOST COMPLETE STEERING POWER DUE TO THE FACT THAT T STEERING FLUID LEAKED OUT OF VEHICLE AS IT WAS BEING DRIVEN OVER A PERIOD OF TIME. STEERING GEAR BOX HAD TO BE REPLACED. *AK
FIRE STARTED IN THE DASHBOARD NEAR THE STEERING COLUM, POSSIBLE SHORT IN IGNITION. *AK
