FRONT BRAKE PADS BROKE IN HALF ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. EACH TIME DEALER INSPECTED VEHICLE AND REPLACED PADS. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *AK
SPEEDOMETER/ODOMETER INACCURATE AT SPEEDS ABOVE 40 MPH. ODOMETER RECORDS 1.4 MILES PER EVERY MILE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND SPEEDOMETER SHOWS ACTUAL SPEED PLUS 10-25 MPH WITH A BOUNCING NEEDLE. MANY OTHER OWNERS SEEM TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS LOCAL DEALER MENTIONED LARGE NUMBER OF INQUIRIES FOR THE SPECIFIC PART. *AK
THE CONSUMER WAS REQUESTING REFUND FOR THE FIRESTONE TIRES (00T-005) WHICH WERE HARD TO KEEP INFLATED THUS CAUSING SWAY AND SHIMMY OF THE VEHICLE,FIRESTONE DENIED REFUND STATING THAT THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED PRIOR TO JANUARY 1,2000 (P235/75R15 FIRESTONE ATX). *YH
CONSUMER REPLACED ALL FIRESTONE ATX TIRES, P235/75R15, AFTER RECEIVING RECALL LETTER 00T005, FORD AND FIRESTONE ARE GIVING THE CONSUMER A RUNAROUND FOR REIMBURSEMENT, CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT, CONSUMER NO LONGER OWNS VEHICLE. *SLC
PRIOR TO RECALL, CONSUMER EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION AND REPLACED ALL FOUR FIRESTONE ATX/ P235/75R15 TIRES, HOWEVER CONSUMER WAS DENIED REIMBURSEMENT DUE TO THE REPLACEMENT TIRES BEING PURCHASED PRIOR TO JANUARY 1, 2000.*JB
THE PROBLEM IS INTERMEDIATE. THE CAR STALLS AT SPEED (60 MPH) OR AT IDLE. ADDITIONALLY WHEN YOU SHUT THE CAR OFF FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME IT WON'T RESTART. IN BOTH CASES IF YOU WAIT 5 - 15 MINUTES THE CAR WILL RESTART. RECENTLY I SPOKE TO FORD WHO SAID SINCE A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ORDERED THEY WILL NOT RECOGNIZE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHEN VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN WITHOUT WARNING ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUTSDOWN. DEALER HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY IGINITION MODULE. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
THE TIRES ARE TOO SOFT, THE DECAL ON THE DOOR READS 26 PSI (TIRE INFO NOT GIVEN). NLM
THE TREADS BEGAN TO SEPARATE FROM THE TIRES PRIOR TO RECALL NOTICE, THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT BUT WAS NOT REIMBURSED THE FULL AMOUNT FOR THE REPLACEMENT TIRES (FIRESTONE). NLM
GAS SMELL WAS NOTICED INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED AND INDICATED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN CONTACTED. *AK *NLM
I HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH TWICE. THE CURRENT SWITCH IS MALFUNCTIONING. THE ORIGINAL SWUTCH WAS REPLACED ABOUT 18 MONTHS AGO. THE BRAKE LIGHTS DID NOT COME ON WHEN THE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE SECOND INCIDENT ABOUT 8 MONTHS AGO THE LIGHTS DID NOT GO OFF WHEN THE PEDAL WAS RELEASED. CURRENTLY THE LIGHTS ARE STAYING ON AFTER THE PEDAL IS RELEASED. ALL THREE INCIDENTS THE BRAKES PERFORMED NORMALLY. THERE IS A SIDE EFFECT THAT OCCURS, THE BROADCAST RADIO WILL CUT OFF INTERMITTANTLY. THIS IS THE WAY I HAVE LEARNED OF THE SWITCH MALFUNCTION. NOTE, BOTH REPLACEMENT SWITCHES WERE PURCHASED AT A REPUTABLE AUTO PARTS STORE AND WERE MANUFACTURED FOR THIS VEHICLE. BOTH SWITCES WERE INSTALLED BY A TRAINED SEVICE TECHNICIAN.
CONSUMER STATED THAT THEY DO NOT OWN THE VEHICLE ANYMORE, BECAUSE IT WAS PLAGUED WITH FRONT-END PROBLEMS. THEIR CONCERN IS THAT THE CAR, IF SOLD, WILL CAUSE DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY IF DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY. *YD
THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD WHEN CONSUMER MOVED GEARSHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE WENT OUT OF CONTROL AND HIT A DIRT BANK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND THE DRIVER SUFFERED MINOR BRUISES DURING THE ACCIDENT. *YH
ALL THE RESTRAINT SAFETY BELTS DO NOT LOCK BETWEEN MOVEMENTS. HAS CONTACTED MANUFACTURER. MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO COVERAGE BECAUSE OVER 50000 MILES AND SECOND OWNER.*AK CONSUMER ALSO STATES THE BATTERY LIGHT ILLUMINATES WHILE DRIVING, AND SOMETIME THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START.*JB
VEHICLE WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE AND SMELLED LIKE INSULATION BURNING. CONSUMER INDICATED REMOTE POWER MIRROR SWITCH HAD BURNED. POWER SWITCH BUTTONS FOR MIRROR WILL NOT MOVE. DEALER CONTACTED. *AK
DUE TO TIRE SEPARATION FIRESTONE DID NOT EXCHANGE ALL THE TIRES OUT.*AK *JG (FIRESTONE ATX P235/75R15)
IGNITION SWITCH IS INOPERATIVE, IT WILL LOCK UP WHILE DRIVING OR DRIVER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO START VEHICLE.*AK
WHEN SETTING PARKING BRAKE IT WILL GIVE MORE RESISTANCE THE FURTHER PEDAL IS PRESSED DOWN. SOMETIMES WHEN THE PEDAL IS APPLIED IT WILL GO DOWN ABOUT 1/3 OF THE WAY THEN GIVE WAY AND GO TO THE FLOOR. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE PARKING BRAKE HAS TO BE RELEASED AND RESET. NLM
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE MAKES A LOT OF NOISE AROUND THE WHEEL AREA, THE TIRES WERE ROTATED BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST, BUT ONE DAY WHILE DRIVING THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL LOCKED UP, THE VEHICLE WAS IMMEDIATELY TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT CALIPER WAS STUCK, THE DEALER REPLACED THE PADS, BOTH CALIPERS AND THE MASTER CYLINDER. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED A REFUND OF THE MONIES SPENT ON REPAIR. *SCC

THE VEHICLE VIBRATED WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INDICATED THAT ALL EXPLORERS EXPERIENCED THIS VIBRATION. THE VIBRATION HAS BECOME WORSE AND THE DRIVER FEELS LIKE HE'S GOING TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. *NLM
CONSUMER STATES THAT ELECTRICAL CURRENT THAT RUNS THROUGH THE AUTOMATIC PASSENGER'S SIDE DOOR IS SO STRONG THAT IT CAUSES PASSENGER'S ARM TO BE BURNED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING, THE CONSUMER HEARD FUEL SPLASHING AROUND IN THE TANK, WHICH CAUSED FUMES TO COME THROUGH THE VENTS. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THE GAS TANK WAS GETTING SOAKED FROM THE FUEL LEAKAGE. THE FUEL TANK WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. *JB
THE SPARE TIRE WAS HELD UNDER THE VEHICLE BY A CABLE. THE CABLE CORRODED, AND THE SPARE TIRE MALFUNCTIONED. *AK
