WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WANDERS TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD (NO SHOULDER), WHEN STEERING BACK INTO THE LANE THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO FISHTAIL AND SKID, THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER, NO SERIOUS INJURIES ONLY ACHES AND BRUISES. NLM
THE VEHICLE ENGINE FAILED WHILED DRIVING, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ENGINS PISTONS FAILED, THE HEAD GASKET CRACKED AND BLUE SMOKE WAS COMING OUT OF THE TAILPIPE, THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENGINE WITH A REBUILT ENGINE, THE VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP FROM THE DEALER AND WHILE DRIVING FROM THE DEALER THE ENGINE FAILED AGAIN. NLM
HAD TO TOTALLY REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION, SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE TO BE DONE ON SUCH A LOW MILEAGE CAR.*AK
WAS TRAVELING 50 MPH WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE PULLED OUT IN FRONT. THIS CAUSED EXPLORER TO "T" BONED IT. ONCE THIS HAPPENED, AIR BAGS ON THE EXPLORER FAILED TO DEPLOY. VEHICLE'S FRONT WAS DAMAGE, BUT WAS REPAIRABLE. NO INJURIES.*AK
ON TUESDAY JANUARY 16, 2001, THE O/D OFF LIGHT STARTED FLASHING WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK. I CHECKED THE OWNERS MANUAL FOR THIS STATUS AND IT STATED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICED. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH COLUMBIANA FORD FOR THURSDAY JANUARY 18, 2001. I TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF ANYTHING FELT WRONG AND ALL I COULD DETERMINE WAS THE AUTOMATIC SHIFTING INTO OVERDRIVE WAS NOT WORKING. ON THURSDAY JANUARY 18, 2001, I WAS SHOCKED BY THE PHONE CALL FROM THE FORD DEALER. THEY INFORMED ME THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN OVERDRIVE A PART HAD BROKEN. DURING THIS BREAKAGE, THEY STATED THAT 3RD GEAR WAS DAMAGED. THE FINAL SHOCK OCCURRED WHEN THEY STATED THE REPAIR ESTIMATE WAS $2313.00 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE FINAL BILL WAS FOR $2484.00. WHEN I INQUIRED ABOUT REPAIRING OR REBUILDING THE TRANSMISSION THEY STATED THAT IT WOULD COST THE SAME AS THE NEW ONE. I CALLED OTHER TRANSMISSION SERVICE COMPANIES AND THEY VERIFIED THE SAME CONCLUSION AS THE FORD DEALER. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 67,000 MILES ON IT AND THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED REPLACED.*AK
SEAT BELT RETRACTORS DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. THEY DO LOCK ON SUDDEN STOPPING SITUATIONS. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER WILL INSPECT VEHICLE TO CHECK WHATS WRONG. *AK THE DEALER DECIDED TO REPLACE THE BACK SEAT BELTS TO SOLVE THE PROBLE. *YH
TRANSMISSION FAILED. FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR DRIVE TOOK 8-10 SEC'S FOR IT'S POSITION. DEALER SAYS NOTHING WRONG. TRANS. SPECIALISTS CHARGED $2500.00 FOR REBUILT FORD TRANS.
WHILE TRAVELING WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON AND TRYING TO EXIT, TRIED TO RELEASE CRUISE CONTROL, BUT VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN, RESULTING IN A MULTI VEHICLE COLLISION/WRECK SIMILAR TO RECALL 95V052000. *AK
AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT CONTINUED TO STAY ON. DEALER NOTIFIED, AND INFOMED CONSUMER THAT PROBLEM WAS DUE TO A CLOCK SPRING FAILURE. ANY REPAIRS WOULD BE AT CONSUMER'S COST. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS ON THIS MATTER.*AK
VEHICLE ACCELERATES, MOSTLY AT SPEEDS OF 50-55 MPH, CONSUMER APPLIES BRAKE, BUT ENGINE KEEPS REVVING. CONSUMER THEN USES EMERGENCY BRAKE TO SLOW VEHICLE DOWN. THEN, PUTS VEHICLE IN PARK. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES, TWICE TO DEALER, CANNOT FIND CAUSE. *AK
THE SWAY BRACE HAS TWO BROKEN STUDS, WHICH ALLOWS THE BAR TO ROTATE FORWARD AND THEN THE TWO STUDS PROTRUDE FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS REQUIRES US TO MANUALLY ROTATE THE BAR BACK TO REST ON THE "ATTACHMENT" POINTS. *AK
ENGINE IDLES ROUGH, STALLS. DEALER NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE.
AFTER SEAT BELT BUCKLE IS LOCKED IN PLACE AND VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, SEAT BELT WHILE AUTOMATICALLY UNLOCK AND RETRACT WITHOUT ANY HELP FROM DRIVER. *AK
FRONT SWAY BAR LINKS BROKE, THERE WAS NO PRIOR WARNING, AND VEHICLE COULD BREAK DOWN. *AK
DRIVING FROM SAN DIEGO TO LAX AIRPORT. 1/3 OF WAY THERE, O/D OFF LIGHT STARTS FLASHING, SEE IN MANUAL TO CONTACT DEALERSHIP AND TO HAVE VEHICLE CHECKED. CALL RANCHO FORD IN TEMECULA, CA, THEY SAID VEHICLE FINE TO DRIVE, COME IN FOR APPOINTMENT A FEW DAYS LATER. VEHICLE NOT IN CORRECT GEARS, RPM AWKWARD, TOO HIGH, TOO LOW. THEN 1/2 BACK AND HEAR POP SOUND, LIKE GUNFIRE, AND SEE SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER VEHICLE. PAST EXPERIENCE WITH FORD TELLS ME NOT TO TRUST THEM, SO I PULL OVER AND CALL MY MECHANIC. TRANSMISSION BLEW CAP OFF AND COVER UNDERCARRIAGE OF CAR WITH TRANS FLUID. MECHANIC SAID THAT AS LONG AS I DID NOT REV ABOVE 2700, I WOULD BE OKAY. MADE IT ALL THE WAY HOME. HAD TRANSMISSION REBUILT AND REINSTALLED, TWO WEEKS LATER, SAME SYMPTOMS. THIS TIME NEW TRANSMISSION. THEN 4 WEEKS LATER, PROBLEMS OCCUR AGAIN. TAKE TO AAMCO, AND THEY SAY NEEDS NEW TORQUE CONVERTER, TAKE TO REGUALR MECHANIC, SAYS NEEDS NEW TRANSFER CASE, TAKE TO RANCHO FORD, THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, AND TAKE TO LAKE ELSINORE FORD, WHERE THEY RUN DIAGNOSTIC, AND FIND NOTHING IS WRONG.*AK
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 25 MPH AND STEPPING ON BRAKES PEDAL BRAKES LOCKED UP, AND VEHICLE MOVED SIDE TO SIDE. THEN, ROLLED OVER THREE TIMES. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER, AND TOTALED WITH NO CAUSE OF ACCIDENT FOUND. *AK
ENGINE STALLS DURING HOT WX. ENGINE STALLED WHEN TRYING TO ENTER TRAFFIC. RESTARTS IF HOOD IS LIFTED TO ALLOW AIR TO CIRCULATE AND COOL COMPONENTS. NOV 16, 2000 DEALERSHIP REPLACED PCM, BRA PROCESSOR ASY-EEC, EVR, CONTROL ASY-EGR VACUUM REGULATOR, SENSOR ASY-EGR PRESSURE VALVE FOR ~$600. NOT FIXED. *AK

CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A FLAT, AND WHEN VEHICLE WAS TAKE IN, WAS ADVISED BY MECHANIC THAT THE FLAT WAS DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION, CONSUMER HAS REPLACED ALL 4 FIRESTONE AT(P255/70R16) TIRES. *JB
DRIVER SEAT BELT BUCKLE WILL NOT LATCH. LOCKING MECHANISM IS BROKEN WHICH PREVENTS BUCKLE FROM LATCHING. DEALER /MANUFACTURER NOTIFIED, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER A RECALL OR WARRANTY. REPAIRS WOULD BE AT CONSUMER'S COST. *AK THE CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE OF THE LOCKING MECHANISM OF THE SEAT BUCKLE IS POSSIBLY FAULTY ENGINEERING AND A POOR DESIGN. *YH

A CRINKING SOUND WOULD COME FROM WHEEL AREA WHILE DRIVING, DEALER NOTIFIED, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT FRONT BALL JOINTS NEEDED REPLACEMENT FOR LACK OF LUBRICATION IN RUBBER SEAL. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM A TRIP A PASSING CAR INDICATED TO ME A TIRE PROBLEM. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD, CALLED AAA AND HAD MY SPARE PUT ON MY FORD EXPLORER. ABOUT A WEEK LATER I TOOK THE TIRE IN TO GET IT FIXED. THE MANAGER OF THE FIRESTONE STORE WHERE I TOOK IT CALLED ME OVER AFTER INFLATING THE TIRE ON A STAND. THE TREAD HAD SEPARATED FROM THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE. HE CALLED HIS OFFICE WHO AUTHORIZED A 50% REDUCTION IN REPLACEMENT TIRES WHICH I ACCEPTED BUT CALLED FIRESTONE TO REQUEST 100% REPLACEMENT COST. TO DATE NO REPLY FROM FIRESTONE. CONCERNED THAT OTHER TIRES MAY HAVE THIS PROBLEM. HAD STOPPED VEHICLE TO CHECK TIRES AND NOTICED TREAD SEPARATING ON LEFT REAR FIRESTONE TIRE WITH 32,000 MILES ON IT. DROVE TO TIRE RETAILER AND HAD 2 TIRES IN REAR REPLACED. P225/70R15 ON 1995. *AK DOT# W2UU1MX. *SLC
WHILE DRIVING COULD FEEL A STRONG MOVEMENT SIDE TO SIDE. FOUND OUT THAT FRONT SWAY BAR WAS BROKEN, AND VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER AND REPAIRED. *AK
WE PURCHASED NEW FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRES (P235/75R15) FROM OUR LOCAL COSTCO TIRE CENTER ON 06-27-99. OUR TIRES DO NOT HAVE THE RECALLED DOT SERIAL NUMBER, BUT WE HAD THEM INSPECTED AT THE COSTCO TIRE CENTER JUST TO BE SAFE. THE TIRE INSTALLER AT COSTCO POINTED OUT THAT BOTH FRONT TIRES HAD STARTED TO CRACK AND SEPARATE WHERE THE TREAD MEETS THE SIDEWALL. WE WERE TOLD TO REPLACE THE TIRES IMMEDIATELY. COSTCO WILL REPLACE THE TIRES, BUT HAS TO PUT ON ANOTHER PAIR OF FIRESTONE WILDERNESS TIRES. I REPEAT, OUR TIRES ARE NOT CURRENTLY SUBJECT TO RECALL, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE ALSO DEFECTIVE. AT THE TIME OF THIS E-MAIL, THE TIRES ONLY HAVE 22,329 MILES ON THEM AND THE TREAD IS IN DANGER OF SEPARATING. IT IS MY BELIEF THAT ALL FIRESTONE WILDERNESS TIRES SHOULD BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY! IF FIRESTONE KNEW BEFOREHAND ABOUT PROBLEMS WITH THEIR TIRES, THEY SHOULD BE HELD CRIMINALLY LIABLE FOR ANY DEATHS AND INJURIES ASSOCIATED WITH THEIR TIRES. WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROX 40MPH I BEGAN TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN. AT THIS TIME I HAD HIT A POTHOLE IN THE ROAD. AS I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL IT LOCKED UP AND I COULD FEEL THE ANTI LOCKS ATTEMPTING TO ACTIVE. TWO WEEKS AGO WE BROUGHT THE CAR TO A FIRESTONE DEALER FOR THE RECALL. THEY PUT US ON A WAITING LIST AND SAID NOT TO WORRY, THEY LOOKED AT THE TIRES AND THEY WERE FINE. YESTERDAY MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND THE TIRE CAME APART. SHE NARROWLY AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT AS SHE WAS SLOWING DOWN TO EXIT THE FREEWAY. UPON INSPECTION, THE TIRE HAD A MAJOR HOLE FROM SEPARATION, NOT FROM ANY FOREIGN OBJECT. VEHICLE WAS PARKED. STEEL CORE WAS COMING THROUGH TIRE. TREAD COMPOUND WAS CRACKED ALL AROUND. TOOK TIRE TO SHOP FOR REPLACEMENT OF ALL TIRES, EVENTHOUGH 2 FRONT TIRES HAD PROBLEMS. DO NOT HAVE TIRES. *AK
ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 20, 2000 MY FAMILY AND I WERE DRIVING IN OUR 1995 FORD EXPLORER WHEN THE TREAD ON OUR FIRESTONE P225/70R15 DETACHED FROM THE TIRE. I WAS ABLE TO KEEP MY SUV UNDER CONTROL AND NO ADDITIONAL DAMAGE WAS INCURRED. THE TIRE WAS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON THE EXPLORER WITH 37,000 MILES ON THE TIRES. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THE TIRES ON MY SUV WERE NOT PART OF THE INITIAL RECALL. I BELIEVE THIS INDICATES THAT THE DEFECT IN MANUFACTURE IS SYSTEMIC TO ALL YOUR TIRE PRODUCTS. I HAVE THE TIER BUT NOT THE TREAD, AS IT IS SOME WHERE IN PIECES ON THE HIGHWAY. I WOULD LIKE A QUICK RESOLUTION TO THIS MATTER AND REQUEST THAT YOU PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT THE TIRES WITH QUALIFIED TIRES AT A DEALER OF MY CHOICE. THE FIVE LUG BOLTS HOLDING THE ROTOR TO THE AXLE BROKE OFF DETACHING THE WHOLE RIGHT REAR WHEEL FROM THE VEHICLE. *SLC
I PURCHASED THESE TIRES AT VEHICLE MILEAGE 111655, AND THE TIRES HAVE A 50,000-MILE WARRANTY. I HAD TO REPLACE THEM AT 150984 MILES BECAUSE OF TREAD SEPARATION ON THE BACK TWO TIRES. MECHANIC'S NOTES ARE "TWO REAR TIRES SEPARATED. TREAD DEPTH 2 AT 12 & 2 AT 10." DESCRIPTION OF TIRES -- WILDERNESS AT P255 70R 16 109S M/S (27951URBMO61755) MADE IN CANADA.
