ENGINE STALLS AFTER DRIVING IN WARM WEATHER, CONSUMER BELIEVES IT MIGHT BE A VAPOR LOCK PROBLEM. *ET
WHILE RETURNING FROM VACATION, I WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON HWY. 75 IN HOWE, TX, AT 70MPH WHEN I HEARD THE TIRE BEGIN MAKING NOISE AND THEN IT BLEW OUT. THE BLOWOUT CAUSED ME TO SWERVE UNCONTROLLABLY (90 DEGREES TO THE ROAD 3 TIMES, ACROSS BOTH LANES) BEFORE REGAINING CONTROL AND ALLOWING ME TO GET SAFELY OFF OF THE HIGHWAY. THERE WERE LUCKILY NO OTHER CARS IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA AT THIS INSTANT. THE TIRE TREAD HAD SEPARATED FROM THE CASING AND SHREDDED. ALSO IN THE CAR WERE MY WIFE, 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, AND MY DAUGHTERS FRIEND. THE TIRE CAUSED DAMAGE IN THE WHEEL WELL/REAR QUARTER PANEL AND ROCKER PANEL AREA OF THE CAR AS WELL AS CRACKING THE REAR TAILLIGHT LENS AND DAMAGING THE ALUMINUM WHEEL.( DOT NUMBER: VDUUJBA227 TIRE SIZE: P225-70R15 )
ACTUALLY HAD TWO VERY SIMILAR SITUATIONS ALTHOUGH ONE WAS ON ICE AND THE OTHER DUE TO HYDROPLANING. WAS TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE IN BOTH INSTANCES AT BELOW SPEED LIMIT AND CAR SEEMED TO FLOAT OFF TO THE RIGHT AND THEN GO INTO UNCONTROLLABLE SPINS BOTH INSTANCES WERE NEARLY IDENTICAL WITH THE LAST ONE RESULTING IN CAR CAREENING INTO DITCH AND STRIKING GUARDRAIL I DO NOT FEEL I WAS TRAVELING AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED IN EITHER INSTANCE BUT AM NOT FRIGHTENED TO RIDE IN VEHICLE DURING ANY KIND OF INCLEMENT WEATHER. MY THREE OTHER TIRES WERE ALSO SEPARATING AND WERE REPLACED. I AM STILL WAITING FOR FIRESTONE TO PAY ME FOR MY MEDICAL AND EIGHT MONTHS LOSS TIME FROM WORK AND VEHICLE RENTAL. THEY HAD REIMBURSED ME APPROXIMATELY $2,700.00 ONLY FOR DAMAGE TO MY EXPLORER. THE TIRES THEY HAD REPLACED I BELIEVE NOW HAS A RECALL ACCORDING TO THE NEW REPORTS OF 5-21-01. CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 65MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND HE HEARD A NOISE . HE PULLED OVER AND NOTICED A CHUNK OF THE PASSENGER REAR SIDE TIRES CAME OFF. *AK

RECALL 99V310001/HYDRAULIC LEFT CYLINDERS: VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED CONCERNING THIS RECALL. CURRENTLY, VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM EXCEPT AT THE TOP OF THE WELD. DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME. *AK BECAUSE OF THE RECALL BOTTOM TWO BRACKETS WERE FIXED AND TWO TOPS WERE NOT FIXED THEREFORE, TOP RIGHT BRACKET WELD BROKE OFF. *YH

CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING 40MPH & ROAD SLOPED, BRAKES WERE APPLIED & BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. CONSUMER HAD NO CONTROL OF VEHICLE. VEHICLE SLID ABOUT 50 YARDS WHILE GOING ABOUT 30MPH. CONSUMER COULDN'T PREVENT HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE SIDE. *AK
AS A PAST AND PRESENT OWNER OF FORD VEHICLES, I WISH TO EXPRESS MY SINCERE DISSATISFACTION WITH THE RECENT LACK OF SUPPORT THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND ITS DEALERSHIPS PROVIDE TO INSURE THE INTEGRITY OF FORD VEHICLE SAFETY SYSTEMS. I AM WRITING WITH RESPECT TO A RECENT REPAIR THAT WAS PERFORMED ON THE AIRBAG SYSTEM OF MY 1995 FORD EXPLORER. WHEN THE ODOMETER READ APPROXIMATELY 56,000 MILES, THE DASHBOARD AIRBAG INDICATOR LAMP BEGAN TO ILLUMINATE. AFTER TAKING IT TO DICK RUHL FORD AT 7250 SAWMILL ROAD IN COLUMBUS, OHIO FOR REPAIR, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE COST OF THE REPAIR ($425.45) WOULD NOT BE COVERED DUE TO EXCESSIVE MILEAGE. IN ADDITION, TWO SEPARATE VISITS TO THE DEALERSHIP WERE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR SINCE THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM WAS NOT PROPERLY DIAGNOSED INITIALLY.*AK
REPEATED FAILURES OF FIRESTONE TIRES OVER 3 YEARS. REPORTED TO FRIESTONE W/ NO ACTION. THIS WAS ABOUT 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE FIRST MAJOR RECALL/SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT. REFUSED TO WARRANTY AND CLAIMED TO HAVE A NEW COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT HD WIPED OUT ALL INFO PRIOR TO JAN 2000. WILL F/U WITH LETTER TO YOU. MY APOLOGIES FOR THE LATE REPORT. THE SWAY BAR LINK FAILED PRIOR TO RECALL NOTICE 00V-402, THE CONSUMER REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT. NLM
THE FRONT TIRES BLEW OUT WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT AN APPROXIMATE SPEED OF 50-55 MPH. AS A RESULT I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR WHICH FLIPPED OVER THE GUARD RAIL AND ROLLED DOWN A 70 FOOT DITCH. I WAS IN THE CAR AND WAS SEVERELY INJURED, SUSTAINING PERMANENT EXTERNAL INJURY (I.E., SCARRING) AND INTERNAL (I.E, HEADACHES, BACKACHE).*AK( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 255 16 )

TREAD CAME OFF OF TIRE WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION. WE LOOKED INTO PURCHASING TWO OF THE SAME TIRES BUT INSTEAD GOT FOUR NEW TIRES FROM A DIFFERENT COMPANY. WE ARE CERTAINLY HAPPY THAT WE MADE THAT DECISION IN THE LIGHT OF WHAT IS BEING BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION NOW. BE ADVISED WE WOULD LIKE REPAYMENT FOR OUR EXPENSE OF THE NEW TIRES. *AK( DOT NUMBER: )
THE ACTUAL DATE AND MILEAGE IS UNKNOWN. I JUST DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM LAST WEEK. BOTH LINK PINS THAT CONNECT THE FRONT SWAY BAR TO THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY WERE MISSING. WITH THE SWAY BAR DISCONNECTED, THE CAR SWAYS SEVERLY IN CORNERING OR HARD MANUEVERS. I HAD THE PINS REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. I CONTACTED FORD AND THEY HAD ISSUED A CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION ON 6 NOV 2000 #00M11 THAT IDENTIFIED THE (LINK PINS BREAKING)PROBLEM FOR 1996-1997 FORD EXPLORERS. HOWEVER, THE LIMIT FOR MILEAGE FOR FORD TO REPLACE THE PARTS WAS 100,000. I HAD AT THE TIME OF DISCOVERY 102500 MILES ON THE CAR. THIS PROBLEM, I BELIEVE, OCCURED BACK IN THE SUMMER BECAUSE I STARTED GETTING A LOT SWAY ON CORNERING. I FIGURED THAT THE SHOCKS WERE BAD DO HAD THEM REPLACED IN ABOUT SEPTEMBER 2000. THIS DIDN'T SOLVE THE SWAY PROBLEM. LAST WEEK I WAS CHANGING MY OIL AND NOTICED THAT THE SWAY BAR WAS LOOSE. AFTER REPLACING THE LINK PINS MY SWAY PROBLEM WENT AWAY. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS, MELLANIE HALL, AND RELAYED MY PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT FORD WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIRS SINCE MY CAR WAS 2500 MILES PAST THEIR LIMIT. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND MAY HAVE BEEN A CONTRIBUTING PROBLEM TO THE TIRE PROBLEM CAUSING ROLL OVERS. THIS CAR, WITH OUT THE SWAY BAR ATTACHED, WOULD DEFINITELY BE UNSTABLE IN HARD TURNS AND I AM CONVINCED THAT IT COULD LEAD TO A ROLL OVER. MELLANIE HALL FOR FORD, DID NOT AGREE. I BELIEVE THAT THIS TIME OF FAILURE SHOULD BE ADDED TO YOUR INVESTIGATION ON TIRES AND ROLL OVERS. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT THIS SHOULD BE SAFETY RECALL AND NOT BE LIMITED TO A CERTAIN NUMBER OF MILES, CONSEQUENTLY I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED.
CONSUMER HAD THE RIGHT FRONT SWAY LINK REPLACED BECAUSE IT SNAPPED, THE LEFT SWAY BAR LINK WAS RUSTED TO A POINT WHERE IT WAS CLOSE TO BREAKING AND WAS ALSO REPLACED, CONSUMER HAD REPAIRS PRIOR TO RECALL 00S47, FORD DID NOT GIVE CONSUMER FULL REFUND FOR REPAIRS EVEN THOUGH IT SAYS IN THE REFUND LETTER THAT FULL REFUNDS WOULD BE GIVEN FOR THOSE CONSUMER'S WHO REPLACED SWAY BAR LINKS PRIOR TO THE DATE OF THE RECALL LETTER. *SLC
THE RIGHT STABILIZER LINK BROKE ON THE VEHICLE, WHEN ORDERING THE REPLACEMENT PART, OWNER DISCOVERED THAT THE PART HAD BEEN MODIFIED DUE TO PROBLEMS THAT WERE BEING EXPERIENCED WITH THIS PARTICULAR PART (STABILIZER LINK BOLT). *MJS
THE DRIVE GEAR IN THE TRANSFER CASE FAILED AND WAS REPLACED, 27K MILES LATER THE PROBLEM REOCCURED, THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT AN INCORRECT COMPONENT WAS INSTALLED, THEREFORE CAUSING IT TO FAIL AGAIN, WHILE THIS WAS BEING REPAIRED THE DEALER TORE THE DOOR MOLDING AND THE DASH LIGHTS BECAME INOPERATIVE. *NLM
THE DRIVERSIDE SAFETY BELT REPEATEDLY DISENGAGED/BECAME UNFASTENED FOR NO APPEARANT REASON. WE HAD IT REPLACED AT TOM WOOD FORD, AFTER WAITING AT LEAST 1 WEEK!!!! MY HUSBAND IS AN EMERGENCY ROOM DOCTOR; WE NEVER GO ANYWHERE WITHOUT A SAFETY BELT!!! THIS DEFECT IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE AND THE REPLACEMENT TIME WAS OUTRAGEOUS!!!

I HAD 2 OF 4 TIRES THAT WERE SEPARATING, I REPLACED THEM WITH THE ADVISE OF A TIRE DEALER (DISCOUNT TIRES INC) I REALIZE THIS WAS BEFORE THE TIRE RECALL, BUT THEY WERE REPLACED BECAUSE OF A FAILURE. I HAVE SUBMITTED AN INVOICE TO FIRESTONE FOR REIMBURSEMENT, BUT HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM. VEHICLE WAS GOING 45MPH AND THE PASSENGER'S SIDE SWAY BAR BROKE, CAUSING VEHICLE TO RUN OFF ROAD. CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL 00V4402000/ MANUFACTURER'S RECALL 00S47 IN REFERENCE TO SAME DEFECT. MONTHS LATER. CONSUMER WAS DENIED BY DEALER AND MANUFACTURER ACCORDING TO WHAT THE RECALL STATED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING TO WORK ON MAY 30, 2000, THE FIRESTONE ATX TIRE'S OUTER SURFACE SPLIT OFF FROM THE REST OF THE TIRE. ABOUT 30% OF THE TREAD SPLIT FROM THE TIRE RESULTING IN DAMAGE TO THE REAR WHEEL WELL BODY DAMAGE AT THE REAR AND TEARING OFF PLASTIC TRIM. THIS OCCURRED ON A PARTICULARLY DANAGEROUS STRETCH OF ROAD THROUGH TIJERAS CANYON EAST OF ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO. OUR SON WAS FORTUNATE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND GET OFF THE FREEWAY TO CHANGE THE TIRE. WHEN HE TOOK THE TIRE TO FIRESTONE TIRE AT 9500 MONTGOMERY NE, ALBUQUERQUE, NM 87111, TEL: 505-293-4921, HE WAS TOLD HE MUST BUY A NEW TIRE AND THAT HE COULD MAIL THE DEFECTIVE TIRE SOMEWHERE AND THEN GET PART OF IT REIMBURSED. FIRESTONE IMPLIES THAT HE MUST HAVE BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGE. THIS TIRE AND THE FOUR OTHERS ON THE EXPLORER HAVE BEEN REPLACED THIS DATE WITH FOUR NEW MICHELIN TIRES. WE WANT NOTHING MORE TO DO WITH FIRESTONE TIRES. THE COST OF REPLACING THE TIRES WAS OVER $500 INCLUDING TAX, BALANCING, CAPS. FIRESTONE'S RECALL AND OFFER TO REPLACE TIRES OF THE SAME KIND WOULD BE UNACCEPTABLE TO US. WE HAVE LOST TOTAL CONFIDENCE IN THIS COMPANY. IT IS DESPICABLE THAT THEY HAVE COVERED UP THE DEFECTS IN THEIR TIRES FOR THIS LONG AND THAT PEOPLE HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES. THEY DON'T DESERVE TO BE IN BUSINESS.
