I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND THE PASSENGER REAR TIRE BLEW. THE TREAD SEPARATED AND I SKID ALL OVER THE FREEWAY. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO NOT HIT ANYTHING AND MANAGED TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR. HOWEVER, AT THE TIME I DID THINK I WAS GOING TO FLIP THE CAR. WHEN THE CAR STOPPED I LOOKED AT THE DAMAGE. THE TREAD HAD KNOCKED OF A PART OF THE BUMPER, THE RUNNING GAURD, AND DAMAGED THE REAR PANEL. IN TOTAL IT DID ABOUT $2,500 WORTH OF DAMAGE TO THE CAR. I ALSO HAD ALL THE TIRES REPLACED WITH A DIFFERENT BRAND OF TIRE. AT THE TIME I THOUGHT THIS WAS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT AND DID NOT REPORT THE ACCIDENT TO ANYONE EXCEPT FOR MY INSURANCE COMPANY. WHEN I HEARD THE REPORTS ON THE NEWS, I FELT I SHOULD REPORT THE INCIDENT TO HELP IN THE HEARINGS.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P235/75R15 )
WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING VEHICLE STALLS AND THEN SHUTS DOWN. *AK
WHILE DRIVING TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE, CAUSING VEHICLE TO FLIP, RESULTING IN MINOR INJURIES. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *AK *ML
MY SON WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 75 GOING APPROX. 75MPH AND THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE JUST PEELED AWAY AND CAUGHT THE REAR PANEL AND PULLED IT OFF. NOTHING WAS IN THE ROADWAY TO CAUSE SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO HAPPEN. THANK GOD TIRE DIDN'T BLOW. AT TIME ROADSIDE REPAIR HELP ADVISED IT WAS A DEFECTIVE TIRE -- SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. SINCE LEASE WAS UP THE NEXT MONTH, WE TURNED EXPLORER IN TIRE AND ALL PAID DEDUTIBLE TO HAVE REPAIRED AND INS. CO. COULDN'T PERSUE BECAUSE WE DIDN'T KEEP THE TIRE.( DOT NUMBER: )

HE WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 75MPH ON THE HIGHWAY ON TIRE TREAD SEPARATED. CONSUMER ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE. *AK
FIRESTONE ATX TIRES EXPERIENCED A BLOWOUT CAUSING 3 DEATHS. (ATTORNEY FOR CLIENT) *SLC
WE TOOK OUR CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND ROTATION AND BALANCING OF TIRES. WE WERE TOLD WE HAD 4 GOOD TIRES. WHEN WE LEFT THE STORE, I FELT BUMPING IN THE TIRES. WE GOT ON THE THRUWAY AND DROVE ABOUT 30 MILES. WHEN WE RETURNED, WE SAW THE RUBBER HAD PEELED OFF ONE OF THE TIRES AND THE CORE WAS SHOWING. MY HUSBAND TOOK THE CAR BACK TO FIRESTONE. THEY DISCLAIMED ANY REPSONSIBILITY FOR THE TIRE PEELING AND HAD NO CLUE WHY IT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. THEY TRIED TO SELL MY HUSBAND A BRAND NEW TIRE WITH NO PRO-RATING OR ANYTHING. JERRY WAS ANGRY AND TOLD THEM TO PUT THE SPARE ON. IN SUBSEQUENT CONVERSATIONS WITH THEM, THEY REPEATEDLY DENIED THAT THEIR WORK HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT, EVEN THOUGH THEY ADMITTED THE TECH WAS NEW AND HAD LUMPED ALL THE TIRES TOGETHER DURING ROTATION. WE WERE FURIOUS AND VOWED NOT TO RETURN. A FEW DAYS LATER, I MENTIONED IT TO THE DEALER WE BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND HE GOT US A NEW TIRE IN LIEU OF A $100 SALES COMMISSION FOR BRINGING IN ANOTHER BUYER. TOOK IT TO FIRESTONE, THEY ASKED WHERE WE HAD GOT THE TIRE AND CHARGED US TO MOUNT IT. I CALLED THEM ON THE PHONE AND ASKED FOR AN ADDRESS FOR THE FIRESTONE CO. AND HE THEN REIMBURSED US THE MONEY HE HAD CHARGED TO MOUNT IT. WE'RE EVEN MORE ANGRY NOW BECAUSE THEY ACTED AS THOUGH THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING AND, YET, THEY APPARENTLY KNEW ABOUT THIS. THE TIRE SEPERATED ON THE FREEWAY AT APPROX.65MPH. THE HIGHWAY PATROL DID STOP AND TALK TO US. WHEN THE TIRE SEPERATED IT DID DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT FRONT FENDER AND UNDER CARRIAGE OF FRONT BUMPER. I REPLACED THE 2 FRONT TIRES THAT DAY AS THE OTHER TIRE WAS QUESTIONABLE. I REPLACE LIKE FOR LIKE ON THE TIRES NOT KNOWING OF ANY PROBLEMS WITH SAID TIRES. THIS YEAR I AGAIN HAD A PROBLEM AND REPLACED 2 MORE FIRESTONES THIS TIME I BOUGHT REMINGTON TIRES. 3 DAYS LATER A RECALL OF THE FIRESTONE TIRES WAS ANNOUNCED. I HAVE TALKED TO MAGIC FORD AND THEY FEEL IT IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. I HAVE TALKED TO FIRESTONE AND BECAUSE I DID NOT KEEP THE FIRST 2 TIRES WITH SEPARATION THEY SAY THAT IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. HAD I KNOWN A RECALL WOULD HAPPEN I WOULD HAVE KEPT THE BAD TIRES. I DID TAKE PICTURES OF THE TIRES AND DAMAGE TO CAR BUT FIRESTONE DIDN'T SEEM TO CARE. I AM NOW OUT OF POCKET FOR 5 FIRESTONE TIRES AND FRONT END DAMAGE ON MY CAR. DO I HAVE ANY RECOURSE?( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P235-75R15 )
BOTH REAR DOORS WON'T OPEN. THEY WILL ONLY OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. CONSUMER FEELS THIS IS UNSAFE BECAUSE IN AN ACCIDENT REAR PASSENGERS WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GET OUT.*AK
OVER A PERIOD OF TWO MONTHS, VEHICLE PERFORMANCE DETERIORATED SEVERELY. ROUGH BUMPY RIDE ON SMOOTH PAVEMENT, AND VERY STRONG PULL TO THE RIGHT. I THOUGHT I HAD AN ALIGNMENT PROBLEM. EVENTUALLY, I WAS UNABLE TO STEER A STRAIGHT LINE AT SPEED ABOVE 45, AND I NOTICED TIRE TREAD SEPARATION. I COULD INSERT FINGERS BETWEEN TREAD AND TIRE ON TWO TIRES; I DO NOT RECALL WHICH TWO. FOR THE LIFE OF THE TIRES, I HAD MAINTAINED PRESSURE AT THE FORD-RECOMMENDED 26 PSI, THOUGH I NEVER ROTATED THE TIRES. WHEN I DISCOVERED THE TREAD WAS BEGINNING TO SEPARATE, I WENT TO A FIRESTONE DEALER IMMEDIATELY. I WAS TOLD THAT I MUST REPLACE THE TIRES; I HAD FAILED TO PROPERLY MAINTAIN FIRESTONE-RECOMMENDED PRESSURE, AND HAD FAILED TO ROTATE. IN AUGUST OF 1999 I HAD A TIRE SEPARATING ON MY EXPLORER, I REPLACED ALL 4 TIRES IN THE SAME MONTH AT FIRESTONE. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE THE FOLLOWING YEAR.I TURNED IN THE REQUIRED INFO AND WAS DENIED BECAUSE IT HAPPENED BEFORE JAN 2000. I GUESS IF I HAD BE INJURED OR KILLED FIRESTONE WOULD ACCEPT MY CLAIM OF 324.00 FOR THE TIRE REPLACEMENT EXPENCE. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THERE RESPONCE. *AK (DOT NUMBER: VDHL TIRESIZE: P235/75R15)
A BOLT THAT HOLDS THE DRIVER'S SEAT UPRIGHT SNAPPED, SEATBACK COLLAPSED. *AK
ON THE SAME DAY BOTH MY REAR DOOR LATCHES BROKE.YOU CAN'T OPEN EITHER FROM THE INSIDE.THIS IS NOT DUE TO CHILD SAFETY LOCKS. IT IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE MY PASSENGERS COULDN'T GET OUT IN CASE OF FIRE OR ACCIDENT. *AK
WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH A LOUD PING NOISE WAS HEARD. THIS PROVED TO BE THE ACCELARATOR BRACKET WELD BREAKING OFF OF THE FIREWALL AND THE ACCELARATOR PEDAL HANGING UNRESTRAINED. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL LANDED BEHIND THE BRAKE PEDAL AND CONSEQUENTLY, I HAD NO BRAKING CAPABILITY. I HAD TO REACH DOWN AND MOVE THE PEDAL FROM BEHIND THE BRAKE BEFORE I COULD STOP THE TRUCK. LUCKILY THE TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AND I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING. IF THIS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY, IT COULD BE CATASTROPHIC. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD (REFERENCE #502442309). THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT CONSIDER THIS TO BE A WARRANTY ISSUE EVEN THOUGH A WELD LIKE THIS SHOULD NOT BREAK IF DONE CORRECTLY.

I HAVE CONTACTED FIRESTONE ABOUT THIS FAILURE AND HAVE BEEN STONEWALLED AT EVERY TURN. I KEEP EXPLAINING THAT I REPLACED THE TIRES AT MY ONW COST OVER A 1 YEAR AGO AND THEY KEEP ASKING ME TO SEND IT TO ME. NEED SOME HELP TO GET THEM TO RESPOND CONSTRUCTIVELY.( DOT NUMBER: DON'T KNOW TIRE SIZE: ? )
DRIVER'S SIDE REAR PASSENGER SEAT BELT RETRACTED OR GAVE OUT & IT RELEASED THE REARFACING CSS. CHILD & SEAT TOPPLED OVER TO LEFT. DRIVER TRIED TO RESECURE SEAT BELT, BUT RETRACTOR FAILED. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER & WAS INFORMED BY MECHANIC RETRACTOR WAS BROKEN. *AK
ON 2 SEPERATE OCCASSIONS, AN ORIGINAL REAR FIRESTONE ATX TIRES' TREAD PEELED OFF RESULTING IN 2 SEPERATE ACCIDENTS. BOTH OF THE INCIDENTS HAPPENED WHILE THE AUTO WAS BEING DRIVEN AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED DURING HOT DAYS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. DURING THE FIRST INCIDENT, 5 PEOPLE WERE RIDING IN THE VEHICLE WHICH ALMOST ROLLED. THANKFULLY, TRAFFIC ON THE FWY WAS EXTREMELY LIGHT AND WE WERE ABLE TO AVOID A COLLISION AND GET THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ALL 5 PASSENGERS ENDURED EXTREME MENTAL ANGUISH THAT PREVENTED THEM FROM CONTINUING THEIR TRAVEL. WE CONTACTED FIRESTONE WHO WOULD NOT ADMIT ANY DEFECT WITH THE TIRE, BUT DID PAY FOR THE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, WE WERE VERY SUSPICOUS OF THE TIRES AT THAT TIME SINCE IT SEEMED SO UNLIKELY THAT A TIRE WOULD DO THAT. SO WE ASKED TO HAVE ALL TIRES REPLACED. FIRESTONE REJECTED OUR REQUEST. APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS LATER THE OTHER REAR TIRES' TREAD PEELED OFF UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS. AGAIN, NO ONE WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED. FIRESTONE HOWEVER REFUSED TO REPLACE THAT TIRE AS WELL AS ANY OF THE OTHER TIRES. NOW THAT THE NEWS OF THIS PRODUCT DEFECT IS ARISING EVERYTHING IS STARTING TO MAKE SENSE. WE FEEL BOTH ANGRY AND BETRAYED BY FIRESTONE THAT THEY HAD THIS INFORMATION AVAILABLE, REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM WHEN IT WAS SO APPARENT ON OUR VEHICLE, AND KNOWINGLY PUT MY ENTIRE FAMILY'S LIVES IN JEAPORDY. INFORMANT'S (ATTORNEYS) CLIENTS WERE TRAVELLING IN A FORD EXPLORER AT HIGHWAY SPEED WHEN THE LEFT REAR TIRE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE, CAUSING DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL, CAUSING VEHICLE TO OVERTURN, AND 5 OCCUPANTS WERE EJECTED, 1 FATALITY AND 4 INJURIES, 2 OF WHICH WERE SERIOUS, THE LEFT REAR TIRE WAS A FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT (P225/70R16). *AK (ATTORNEY- HARRY W. BRAKES APPLIED AT 45 MILES/HR, CAR SLOWED TO 20 MILES/HR BUT DID NOT STOP EVENTHOUGH BRAKE PETAL WAS DEPRESSED FULLY. ENGINE SOUNDED LOUDER THEN NORMAL JUST BEFORE COLLISION.
I HAVE THE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AT HOME IE. DOT NUMBER. FIRESTONE PAID FOR THE DAMAGES TO OUR VEHICLE BUT DID NOT REPLACE THE TIRES. WE REPLACED ALL FIVE TIRES AT OUR OWN EXPENSE. THESE TIRES ARE VERY DANGEROUS AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THEM. WE WERE JUST LUCKY WE WEREN'T KILLED. FIRESTONE SOLD CONSUMER FOUR NEW WILDERNESS TIRES AT HALF PRICE. THE ORGINAL TIRES WERE ATX. *AK THE TIRE WAS STILL INFLATED AFTER THE INCIDENT. THE SPIN WAS CAUSED BY THE TREAD HITING THE VEHICLE. *YH

ONE TIRE WAS CONSTANTLY LOW FROM TIME OF PURCHASE. COMPLAINED TO 2 FORD DEALERSHIPS AND TIRE COMPANY BUT NO ONE COULD FIND A PROBLEM WITH TIRE. I PUT AIR IN THE TIRE WEEKLY FOR 3 YEARS AND HAD TIRES ROTATED EVERY 3.000 MILES. TIRES WERE IN GOOD CONDITION EXCEPT FOR SLOW LEAK IN THE ONE IN QUESTION. TIRE PRESSURE WAS KEPT AT APPROX. 30LBS OR HIGHER NEVER BELOW. WHILE DRIVING ON I-80 OVER SIERRA FROM RENO TO SACRAMENTO THE CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE.VIBRATE.INTENSELY SO LOWERED SPEED FOM 60MPH TO 40MPH FOR 2 HOURS UNTIL FINDING SURBUBAN FORD IN SAC. THE SERVICE MANAGER DROVE THE CAR AND SAID IT WAS TOO DANGEROUS TO CONTINUE DRIVING BUT HE COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. FINALLY ON THE LIFT HE SAID THERE WAS PROBLEM WITH TIRE SO HE CHANGED IT. NEXT DAY AT FIRESTONE SERVICE CENTER I WAS TOLD BY MANAGE THAT THE TIRE SEPARATED. HE REPLACED THE TIRE WITH SAME MAKE AND CHARGED ME 37.00. FIRESTONE CONTINUES TO BLAME THE CONSUMER BUT WE INFLATED OUR TIRES TO AT LEAST 30. THERE IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT IN THE TIRES.
