THROTTLE HAS GOTTEN HARDER AND HARDER TO PRESS DOWN. IT FEELS LIKE A BRICK UNTIL STEPPING DOWN ON IT TO GO, THEN IT MAKES VEHICLE GO FASTER THAN INTENEDED. DEALER STATED THAT THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A MALFUNCTION.*AK *JB
VEHICLE STALLS WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE, AND GAS PEDAL GETS STUCK. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEMS. *AK
THE FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL, THEN BOTH REAR TIRES BLEW. THIS SEEMS PRETTY EXTREME FOR TIRES THAT HAD VERY LITTLE TREAD WEAR TO OUT AND NOT PERFORM AS THEY SHOULD. EVEN WITH A TRAILER ATTACHED, THE EXPLORER ROLLED OVER AND WAS UNCONTROLLABLE. THE EXPLORER WAS EQUIPPED WITH A FORD HITCH AND THE TRAILER TOWING PACKAGE. THE WEIGHT OF THE TRAILER WAS UNDER THE WEIGHT SPECIFIED BY FORD, 4990 LBS. THIS ACCIDENT SHOULD NOT OF HAPPENED.*AK (TIRESIZE: P255R75X16)( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P255R75X16 )

INTERMITTENTLY REAR SHOULDER BELT WOULD GRADUALLY TIGHTEN DOWN ON OCCUPANT WHILE DRIVING. HAS TO UNLATCH BUCKLE TO UNTIGTHEN SHOULDER BELT. REPORTS OF EARLY BRAKE REPALCEMENT (BETWEEN 15 & 25,000 MI) HAVE BEEN MADE TO ME, INCLUDING THOSE BY THE DEALER'S SERVICE CONSULTANT. DUE TO FORD'S POOR RECORD WITH THE TIRE RECALL NOTICE, I AM CONVINCE THAT INADEQUATE BRAKE PADS ARE INSTALLED DURING MANFUFACTURING TO SAVE MONEY. THUS PREMATURE WEAR & FAILURE RESULTS. I AM SENDING FORD A LETTER REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR A NON-WARRANTEABLE ITEM. *AK
THE EXPLORER MAKES A RATTLING/MARBLING NOISE COMING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE. JOE COTTON FORD INFORMED ME THAT FORD MOTOR CO. STATES THAT THE WAY TO DEAL WITH THIS PROBLEM IS TO REMOVE THE CARBON IN THE ENGINE AND DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH REPEATED CYCLES OF RUNNING THE ENGINE OVER 3,000RPM'S. REPEATED TREATMENT OF THE ENGINE WITH CARBON CLEANERS BY THE FORD DEALER AND DRIVING THE AUTO OVER 3,000RPMS HAS NOT ELIMINATED THE PROBLEM. IN FACT THE RATTLING IS GETTING LOUDER. I HAVE CHECKED THE NHTSA WEB SITE AND HAVE FOUND MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS BY OTHER 1999 FORD EXPLORER OWNERS ON THE SAME ISSUE. THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND ENGINE. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING IN ANY GEAR. IT DOESN'T SHIFT GEARS CORRECTLY WHEN ACCELERATING. TRANSMISSION ONLY SHIFTS CORRECTLY INTO 1ST GEAR, AND DOUBLE SHIFTS INTO 2ND AND 3RD GEARS AFTER LETTING OFF GAS. TRANSMISSION SHIFTS SOMETIMES FROM HIGH TO LOW, CAUSING VEHICLE TO PULL. OVERDRIVE LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY WOULD GO ON AND OFF. WAS REPAIRED AT DEALER. ON 1-18-2001. DEALER REPLACED MULTIPLE PARTS IN TRANSMISSION 02-15-2001, TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP AND WOULDN'T MOVE.TORQUE CONVERTER AND PUMP WITH HOUSING WERE REPLACED. ON 6-29-2001, TRANSMISSION WAS STILL PULLING. DEALER REPLACED A STUCK EVR VALVE AND REPLACED IT. *AK FRONT AND REAR ROTORS WARPED, DEALER REPLACED, ABS LIGHT ILLUMIANTED, DEALER REPLACED REAR SPEED SENSOR, BRAKES ARE NOISY. PASSENGER WINDOW SHAKES, DEALER LUBED TRACKS. MOTOR MAKES RATTLING NOISE WHEN BEING DRIVEN STEADILY. STEERING GETS STIFF AND MAKES A WHINING NOISE. AIR CONIDTIONER WAS REPAIRED. GOODYEAR TIRE BLEWOUT, THIS TIRE WAS A REPLACEMENT FOR FIRESTONE RECALL 00T005. *SLC

THIS EXPLORER IS EQUIPPED WITH AWD SYSTEM. DURING THE INCIDENT THE VEHICLE SPUN OUT ON ICE BUT THE 4WD DID NOT ENGAGE, SO THE FRONT WHEELS HAD NO TRUCTION. DUE TO THIS I COULD NOT REGAIN CONTROL BEFORE THE VEHICKLE SMASHED IN TI THE BERRIER AND FLIPPED OVER AND ROLLED 180 DEGRIES. THE VEHICLE IS A TOTAL LOSS.*AK

I HAVE A 1999 FORD EXPLORER SPORT WITH A STEP BAR THAT HAS COMPLETELY RUSTED OF THE FIRST YEAR OF PURCHASE. AFTER THE WINTER OF 2000 THE BARS HAS BEEN RUSTING MORE AND MORE THERE IS NOTHING THAT I CAN DO AS A CONSUMER. THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT REPLACE IT UNDER MY WARRANTY BECAUSE THEY CONSIDER THAT WEAR AND TEAR. THIS MATTER NEEDS TO BE ATTENDED TO AS A SAFETY ISSUE. STEPPING ON A RUSTY BAR THAT WILL GIVE ANY TIME SOON CAN NOT BE GOOD FOR ANYONE WITH LITTLE KIDS.*AK
WHILE MERGING VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND TO ACCELERATION. TRAVELING ABOUT 35 MPH VEHICLE EXIBITED A SLUGGISH ACCELERATION, AND THEN A SOUND THAT RESEMBLED A STICK SHIFT NOT CHANGING GEARS. PULLED OFF ROAD, TURNED OFF VEHICLE, AND RESTARTED AND PROCEEDED HOME. DROVE TO DEALER FOLLOWING DAY, AND DEALER SAID VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. HAS NOT SHUT OFF, BUT ONE TIME. HOWEVER, HAS SHOWN ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. RECALLS # 00V72000/ ELECTRONIC PROBLEMS99V062001/ CRUISE CONTROL CABLE FAILURE. *AK
ON 11/24/00 I HIT A DEER GOING 45-50 MPH. MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT BELTS DID NOT LOCK. THE FRONT FENDER OF MY TRUCK IS CRACKED. THE LICENSE PLATE FLEW 100 HUNDRED FEET AS DID THE DEER. WINNER FORD SAID THAT THE IMPACT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ENOUGH TO LOCK THE SEAT BELTS OR CAUSE THE AIR BAGS TO INFLATE. THIS WAS SAID WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE TRUCK. ON 11/26/00 I WAS BRINGING THE TRUCK TO WINNER FORD, THE TRUCK THEN SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT. THE KEY WAS STILL IN THE IGNITION AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNING OVER AS IF IT WAS STILL ON. ON CLOSER INSPECTION IT WAS SEEN THAT YOU COULD SEE THE METAL BEHIND THE PLASTIC CASING. THERE WAS A GAP OF A 1/4 INCH OR MORE. THE TRUCK SHUT OFF 3 MORE TIMES ON MY WAY HOME. I HAVE ALREADY HAD THE ELECTRIC MODUAL CHANGED. THE FIRST TIME I WENT THEY TOLD ME IT HAD BEEN DONE, BUT IT WAS NOT. SO I HAD TO TAKE IT BACK A SECOND TIME AFTER MY WIPERS WERE MALFUNCTIONING. *AK
THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE SEATBELT LATCH. MY 9 YEAR OLD WAS PUTTING ON THE SEATBELT WHEN THE INTERNAL PARTS OF THE SEATBELT LATCH CAME OUT OF THE HOUSING. THE INTERNAL PARTS CAME OUT INTACT. IF I HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT THE SEATBELT WOULD HAVE FAILED. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND FORD AND THEIR RESPECTIVE DEALERS FEEL IT ALSO IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM SINCE RATHER THAN FOCUSING ON ANYTHING ELSE, ALL THREE CALLS I RECIEVED, ONE FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND TWO FROM RECOMENDED DEALERS ALL FOCUS ON THE SEATBELT. NO MENTION IS MADE OF THE OTHER PROBLEMS (UNTIL I BRING IT UP), BUT THEY WANT TO REPLACE THE SEATBELT IMMEDIATLY.*AK
I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WHEN A CAR ATTAMPTED TO CHANGE THE LANES AND HIT MY CAR. THE OTHER CAR WAS TURNED ACROSS MY LANE AND I HIT THE CAR WITH MY FRONT RIGHT SIDE, THEN MY CAR WAS PUSHED ONTO THE CONCRETE DIVIDER AND I HIT THE DIVIDER WITH MY FRONT LEFT SIDE, ALL WHEN TRAVELING ABOUT 60 MPH. THE PASSANGER SEAT BELT DIDN'T LOCK UP, AND MY WIFE WAS THROWN ON THE DASHBOARD. I ALSO HIT THE STEARING WHEEL WITH MY HEAD, AND BECAUSE I WEAR GLASSES I HAVE SOME FACIAL INJURIES. AT THE WHOLE TIME WHEN THE ACCIDEND OCCURED, NONE OF THE AIR BAGS HAD DEPLOYED.*AK
COMING TO STOP , PULLING INTO PARKING SPACE, AND ABOUT TO APPLY BRAKES WHEN VEHICLE ACCELERATED/ SURGED FOWARD AT A HIGH RATE SPEED, CAUSING VEHICLE TO GO OVER CONCRETE PORCH ,KNOCKED OVER 6*6 POLE, AND HIT WALL OF RESTAURANT. TIRE IS THE IN SPARE POSITION, ALL OTHER FIRESTONES WERE REPLACED WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. SPARE IS FULL OF CRACKS AND WAS NEVER ON THE ROAD. IT IS NOT PART OF THE CURRENT RECALL.( DOT NUMBER: )
WHILE DRIVING, STARTED TO SLOW DOWN TO EXIT AND RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEWOUT. VEHICLE STARTED TO VIBRATE. I UNDERSTAND THAT THESE TIRES WERE NOT MADE AT THE DECAUTER PLANT,HOWERER, THE TIRES ARE SPLITTING AND SEPERATING AT THE LETTERS AND JUST ABOVE THE LETTERS THEY ARE CRACKING. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS THE ONE THAT BROUGHT THIS TO MY ATTENTION. I TRIED TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTOR BUT THE ADVISED ME THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME BECAUSE THE TIRES ARE NOT ON THE RECALL. MY WIFE DRIVES THIS TRUCK 100 MILES ROUND TRIP DAILY TO WORK AND I AM CONCERNED FOR HER SAFETY. PLEASE HELP US FOR WE DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO PURCHASE NEW TIRES AND FEEL THAT WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO. WHILE REPLACING FIRESTONE TIRES RECALL INDEPENDENT TIRE CENTER NOTICED THREE OUT OF FOUR ALUMINUM WHEELS WERE OUT OF ROUND AND UNABLE TO BALANCE THE TIRES. SPEED CONTROL CABLE WAS REPLACED FOR RECALL 99V062000/ MANUFACTURER'S 99S09. AFTER VEHICLE CAME FROM DEALER ABS LIGHT CAME ON & STAYED ON. ABS LIGHT DIDN'T COME ON UNTIL SPEED CONTROL CABLE WAS REPLACED.*AK
WHILE USING MY TURN SIGNALS TURNING LEFT I NOTICED THE FLASHER ON THE DASH HAD FROZEN AND THAT SMOKE WAS POURING OUT OF THE HAZARD FLASHER BUTTON AND ALSO OUT OF THE BASE OF THE TURN SIGNAL STEM. WHEN I BOUGHT MY EXPLORER, THE MARBLE NOISE WAS THERE. DEALER DID NOT FIX IT, I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALER, WHERE I HAVE HAD TWO ENGINES PUT IN IT FOR THIS MARBLE NOISE. THE THIRD ENGINE NOW IS MAKING THE SAME MARBLE/ DIESEL NOISE. THEY TELL ME THAT I HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT. I ALSO ONLY GET 9 MILES TO THE GALLON ON THE HWY, AND 2 1/2 AROUND TOWN.*AK
THIS 99 FORD EXPLORER HAS HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS, AS LISTED. CONTACTED MANUFACTURER, THEY DIRECTED ME BACK TO THE DEALER. THIS IS THE MOST UNRELIABLE VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED, AND IT'S ONLY 18 MONTHS OLD. *AK (TIRESIZE: P23575R15)( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P23575R15 )
ON MONDAY OCT 16, 2000 I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THE RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEW OUT. I WAS IN THE FAR LEFT LANE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 56 MPH. WHEN I HEARD THE TIRE BLOW I IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO COAST TO ABOUT 30 MPH. THEN I PROCEEDED TO USE THE BRAKES AND CHANGE LANES TO THE RIGHT SO I COULD GET ONTO THE SHOULDER AND PUT THE SPARE TIRE ON THE VEHICLE. I AM SUPRISED I DIDN'T DAMAGE THE RIM BY DRIVING ON IT. FORTUNATLEY NO ONE WAS INJURED AND NO ACCIDENT RESULTED FROM THIS INCIDENT. THE NEXT MORNING I DROVE BY A FIRESTONE DEALER TO COMPLAIN BUT THEY WERE CLOSED SO I WENT TO BOB TURNER'S FORD COUNTRY AND HAD THEM REPLACE ALL THE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE. WHEN I CALLED FIRESTONE ON TUESDAY THE 17TH, I WAS TOLD THAT I EITHER HAD A FLAT TIRE OR A LOW TIRE AND THAT IS WHAT CAUSED THE BLOW OUT. I KNOW THAT IS NOT TRUE BECAUSE I CHECK THE AIR PRESSURE IN MY TIRES EVERY SUNDAY BECAUSE I TRAVEL APPROXIMATELY 40 MILES A DAY ON THE FREEWAY. AND THE TIRE SHOWS NO SIGNS OF A PUNCTURE WOUND. THE TIRE BLEW OUT ON THE SIDEWALL AND THERE IS NO DAMGE TO ANY PART OF THE TREAD AREA OR SURFACE AREA THAT WOULD BE IN CONTACT WITH THE ROAD. IT IS JUST MY OPINION, BUT I BELIEVE THIS WAS A TOTAL TIRE FAILURE AND THAT FIRESTONE SHOULD REIMBURSE ME FOR THE COST OF REPLACING THE TIRES. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THESE TIRES ARE NOT CURRENTLY ON THE RECALL LIST, BUT I THINK THEY NEED TO BE INCLUDED IN THE INVESTIGATION AND RECALLED BEFORE MORE PEOPLE ARE INJURED OR KILLED. ALSO, IN AN EARLIER PART OF THIS FORM YOU ASKED FOR THE DOT CODE. IT IS VERY HARD TO READ ON THE TIRE, BUT I BELIEVE THAT WHAT I ENTERED IS CORRECT.
