MOST PROBLEMS HAVE SIMPLY BEEN A NUISANCE, ESPECIALLY ON TOP OF THE SIX RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE. INCLUDING 5 RECALLED TIRES WHICH TOOK TWO MONTHS TO REPLACE AND SHOWED SERIOUS SIGNS OF TREAD SEPARATION. HOWEVER, FOUR DAYS AGO WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE GAS PEDAL BECAME LODGED TO THE GROUND. I REACTED BY PUTTING MY FOOT UNDER THE PEDAL AND PULLING IT FORWARD. THE PEDAL THEN FELL OFF AND BECAME LODGED UNDER THE BRAKE PEDAL. I WAS LUCKY TO GET OFF THE ROAD SAFELY.*AK

WHILE DRIVING 10- MPH , HAD STOPPED RAINING ABOUT 15 MINUTES EARLIER, VEHICLE HEADED TOWARDS THE HIGHWAY, AND SUDDENLY LOST CONTROL AND ROLLED OVER INTO AN EMBANKMENT. *AK

WHEN I ENTERED MY TRUCK I SMELL A SULFUR BURNING SMELL, WHEN I STARTED THE TRUCK I NOTICED THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHT LIT AND SMOKE POURING OUT OF THE SOCKET ASSEMBLY.
INTERMITTENTLY AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT WILL STAY ILLUMINATED WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES.*AK THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED 7 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE OWNER IS WORRIED THAT THE AIR BAG MAY DEPLOY ANYTIME OR MAY NOT DEPLOY DURING ACCIDENT. *YH
WHEN I INSPECTED MY TIRES IN RESPONSE TO THE FIRESTONE ISSUE, I FOUND THAT ALL FOUR TIRES PLUS THE SPARE WERE CRACKED AT THE INTERSECTION OF THE SIDEWALL AND THE TREAD...ALL THE WAY AROUND THE TIRE. FIRESTONE REPLACED THESE TIRES WITH THE SAME MAKE FOR NO COST UNDER THE WARRANTY. SO FAR, NO PROBLEM WITH THE NEW TIRES, WHICH WERE INSTALLED ON OCTOBER 13, 2000. HAD THE ORIGINAL VDHL RECALLED TIRES REPLACED AND NOW THE NEW TIRES ARE ALREADY STARTING TO VIBRATE/WOBBLE AT SPEEDS GREATER THEN 40 MPH. I AM REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT THESE TIRES AS THE OLD SET THAT I HAD THAT WERE RECALLED WERE DOING THE SAME THING BEFORE I HAD THEM REPLACED. THE NEW ONES NOW WITH ABOUT 1500 MILES ON THEN ARE STARTING TO DO THE SAME THING. CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 30MPH ON HIGHWAY AND PRESSED THE ACCERLERATOR PEDAL, AND CAR ACCELERATED INTO FULL SPEED AFTER HE TOOK FOOT VEHICLE OFF ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THEN, HE SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL, AND ENGINE R.P.M. INCREASED UP IN HIGH SPEED. HE TURNED VEHICLE OFF.*AK

ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON A FORD, EXPLORER 1999. CONSUMER WAS HEARING A NOISE COMING FROM TIRE. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY INSPECTED THE TIRES, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THERE WERE CRACKS IN THE SIDEWALLS OF THE TIRES.*AK
CONSUMER TOOK FIRESTONE WILDERNESS TIRES P235/75R15 DOT VDHL TO FIRESTONE DEALER WHO FILLED OUT THE RECALL (00T005) REFUND FORM FOR CONSUMER, HOWEVER CONSUMER HAS NOT RECEIVED ANY REIMBURSEMENT FOR FAULTY TIRES. *SLC
ALTHOUGH MY TIRES HAD NOT YET FAILED, I WAS COMPELLED TO REPLACE THEM WITH GOODYEAR WRANGLER RT/S TIRES. THIS WAS DONE AT MY OWN EXPENSE. THE FIRESTONE DEALER THAT I WENT TO FOR THE INSPECTION DID NOT EVEN LOOK CLOSELY AT THEM. HE SIMPLY GLANCED AT ONE TIRE AND SAID "THOSE ARE 16 INCH TIRES AND THEY HAVEN'T BEEN RECALLED. THEY'RE FINE." THEY DON'T LOOK FINE TO ME. THERE ARE AT LEAST 34 INCIDENTS OF MY SIZE TIRE ON YOUR COMPLAINTS SPREADSHEET. THERE COULD BE AS MANY AS 89 OF THEM. THAT IS ENOUGH FOR THESE TIRES TO BE ADDED TO YOUR CONSUMER ADVISORY LIST. IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILTY TO PROTECT US FROM THIS KIND OF DESIGN FLAW. AFTER HAVING RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON THE FIRESTONE TIRES TOOK VEHICLE TO HAVE THE TIRES REPLACED. BUT THEY COULDN'T REPLACE THEM IMMEDIATELY. CONSUMER HAD TO WAIT ABOUT FOUR WEEKS TO HAVE THE TIRES REPLACED. FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT, P235/75 R15. *AK

WHEN INSPECTING THESE TIRES I FOUND SMALL CRACKS IN THE SIDEWALL AND AN OBVIOUS SPLIT IN THE VICINITY OF WHERE THE SIDEWALL AND TREAD MEET. I HAVE HAD THEM INSPECTED AT A FIRESTONE DEALER WHO, AFTER ONLY LOOKING AT THE SIZE, SAID THEY WERE FINE. HE WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANYTHING IN WRITING STATING MY TIRES WERE SAFE OR ROAD WORTHY. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD AND FIRESTONE NUMEROUS TIMES WITH NO SATISFACTION. THESE TIRES WERE MANUFACTURED IN THE DECATUR PLANT. I STRONGLY FEEL THESE TIRES SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THESE TIRES HAVE NOT FAILED (BLOWN OUT) YET, HOWEVER I BELIEVE IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME. THE EXPLORER WOULD GO DEAD UNLESS I KEPT MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL WHEN STARTING UP. THE ONLY WAY THAT I COULD GET IT TO GO WAS TO FLOOR THE GAS PEDAL IN PARK. EVERY TIME. *AK
TIRE WAS FLAT IN THE MORNING FOLLOWING FIVE HOURS OF CONTINUOUS DRIVING THE PREVIOUS DAY/EVENING. POSSIBLY DUE TO SIDEWALL PUNCTURE; CONCERN THAT THIS MAY BE RELATED TO FIRESTONE TREAD SEPARATION ISSUE. WHEN APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, THE THROTTLE STUCK AT 20 MPH, AND I HAD TO STEP ON THE BRAKES WITH ALL OF MY FORCE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IT WENT THROUGH THE STOP SIGN ALMOST TO THE MID POINT OF THE INTERSECTION, BUT FORTUNATELY NO TRAFFIC WAS APPROACHING FROM OTHER DIRECTIONS. THE THROTTLE DID DISENGAGE WHEN I GAVE IT MORE GAS.

CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO HAVE FIRESTONE TIRES REPLACED IN A TIMELY MANNER AND PURCHASED FIVE NEW TIRES FROM A COMPETITOR, CONSUMER REQUEST RIMBURSEMENT. NLM

THESE TIRES STARTED, THE SAME TYPE OF CRACKING AS DID THE 15"TIRES. WE WENT TO THE FORD DEALER AND TO A FIRESTONE DEALER, THE ONLY THING THEY KEPT TELLING US WAS THAT THE CRACKING WAS NORMAL.AND THAT THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THEY COULD DO , BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT THE TIRES BEING RECALLED. I TRAVEL @ 200 MILES A DAY, AND WE ALSO HAVE A, NOW 10 MO. OLD GRANDCHILD. WE PURCHASED SOME GOODYEAR TIRES FOR THE SAFEFTY OF OUR FAMILY AND FOT PEACE OF MIND. WE KEPT A CLOSE WATCH ON THE TIRES, AND THE CRACKS WHERE INCREASING IN SIZE. WE VIDEO TAPED THE TIRES AND HAVE IN ON TAPE. WE FEEL THAT FIRESTONE/ FORD, SHOULD REIMBURSE US FOR THE PRORATION OF THE PURCHASE OF THE NEW TIRES. AND WE FEEL THAT, NHTSA, SHOULD INVESTIGATE AND EXAMINE AND IF NEED BE RECALL THESE OTHER TIRES. MY SEVENTEEN YEAR OLD SON, MY ONLY CHILD HAS A 1999 FORD EXPLORER. HE RECENTLY HAD A BLOW-OUT ON ONE OF THE FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT (P255/7016) TIRES. HE WAS VERY, VERY FORTUNATE IN THAT HE NOR ANY OF HIS THREE PASSENGERS WERE INJURED . THEY HAD JUST EXITED OFF A 4-LANE 65MPH HIGHWAY AND WERE NEAR ING A RESIDENTIAL AREA. THERE IS NO EXPLAINATION AS TO WHY THE TIRE EXPLODED. WE CONTACTED THE DEALER BUT, THEY OFFERED NO HELP. A FEW DAYS LATER WE BEGAN TO HERE OF A POSSIBLE RECALL . WE THEN CONTACTED THE DEALER AGAIN ,HOWEVER , THEY EXPLAINED THAT THE 16 INCH TIRES ON MY SON'S EXPLORER IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. PLEASE DOCUMENT THIS POTENTIALLY FATAL INCIDENT CONCERNING THE FIRESTONE TIRE. I AM VERY CONCERNERED. MY CHILD'S SAFETY IS MY GREATEST CONCERN! I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT ROUGHLY 70MPH,WHEN I HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR TIRE. I HAVE A 99 FORD EXPLORER WITH THE 235 75R15 WILDERNESS AT TIRES. THE DOT CODE IS FROM WILSON NC NOT THE DECATUR PLANT. HOWEVER, I HAVE NUMEROUS CUTS ON THE SIDEWALL BELOW THE TREAD AND ABOVE THE LETTERING. IF YOU WILL REVIEW YOUR DATABASE, THERE ARE AT LEAST 46 COMPLAINTS OF TIRE PROBLEMS (I.E. THREE OF OUR TIRES WERE 069'S, THE FOURTH WAS A 169. ALL FOUR TIRES WERE SEPARATING SEVERLY. YOU COULD PUT A DIME IN THE SEPARATION ON ALL FOUR TIRES. TWO FORD DEALERS SAID WE HAD SERIOUS PROBLEM, BUT 16" NOT ON RECALL LIST. HUNTINGTON FORD SENT US TO BELLE TIRE, WHO AGREED WE HAD SERIOUS PROBLEM. THEY CALLED FIRESTONE, AND OVER THE PHONE THEY CALLED IT "WEATHER CHECKING" AND GAVE US FOUR NEW TIRES FOR ONLY $79.
