VEHICLE WAS PARKED. NOTICED CRACKS IN LEFT REAR TIRE NEAR/THROUGH TREADS & ON CASING WHERE TREAD MEETS. TOOK TO FIRESTONE RETAILER TO HAVE TIRES REPLACED & TIRES NOT ON RECALL. FIRESTONE, WILDERNESS AT, P235/75R15 WITH 11,000 MILES.*AK
AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE NEW, WE NOTICED VIBRATION AT HIGH SPEEDS. FORD SERVICE FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE EXPLORER. WHEN THE RECALLED WAS ANNOUNCED WE HAD THE LOCAL NTB TIRE COMPANY CHECK THE TIRES AS THE VIBRATION HAD BECOME VERY PRONOUNCED EVEN BEFORE THERE WAS 1500 MILES OF THE TRUCK. NTB RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT OF THE TIRES. AT OUR OWN EXPENSE, BECAUSE THE FIRESTONE COMPANY REFUSED TO LOOK AT THE TIRES FOR 2 MONTHS (THEY WERE TOO BUSY AND WE HAD TO BE PUT ON A WAITING LIST) WE HAD NTB REPLACE THE WILDERNESS AT TIRES WITH MICHELIN TIRES. THE VIBRATION IMMEDIATELY CEASED. THE TRUCK RIDES SMOOTHLY AND WE HAVE HAD NO MORE PROBLEMS. FIRESTONE REFUSES TO DISCUSS TAKING THE TIRES BACK EVEN THOUGH WE EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM WE WERE HAVING.( DOT NUMBER: 8XHL TIRE SIZE: P235/75R15 )
RIMS ARE NOT SYMETERICALLY ROUND. *SLC
COMSUMER WAS PUTTING NEW TIRES ON THE VEHICLE BUT COULD NOT BECAUSE ALL FOUR RIMS ARE NOT SYMETRICALLY ROUND, THIS IS A DEFECT FROM THE FACTORY WHERE THE TIRES WILL NOT BALANCE OR KEEP AN ALIGNMENT. NLM

TIRE BLEW OUT, CAME COMPLETELY APART AT THE SEAMS, COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TIRE AFTERWARDS THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THIS. REPORTED TO BOTH LOCAL FORD AND FIRESTONE ABOUT THIS, AND THEY WOULDN'T EVEN DISCUSS IT SINCE IT WASN'T ONE OF THE "RECALLS". I BELIEVE THEY ALL NEED TO BE LOOKED INTO. CALL T.V. 5 FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRES P235 75 R15 WERE REPLACED DUE TO MECHANIC INSPECTING THAT ALL TIRES WERE BAD, CONSUMER WANTS REIMBURSEMENT. *SLC
WHEN THE STORY ABOUT THE WILDERNESS TIRES FIRST BROKE I WAS IN A PANIC BECAUSE I TRAVEL EVERY DAY FOR MY JOB. ON 8/09/200 I WENT TO FIRESTONE TO GET MY TIRES INSPECTED AND THEY SAID MY TIRES WERE FINE. I WAS ASKED IF I FOUND ANYTHING UNUSAL RIDING ON THESE TIRES. I TOLD HIM IT WAS LIKE A FLAT SPOT ON MY TIRES. HE SAID THAT WAS NORMAL FOR THIS TYPE OF TIRE. ON 8/25/00 I WAS TRAVELING ACROSS A BRIDGE ABOUT 55 TO 60 MPH I FELT MY REAR END SWAYING THEN HEARD A NOISE LIKE A HELICOPTER I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG. I PULLED ON THE SIDE OF THE BRIDGE AND SAW MY REAR TIRE WAS BLOWN WITH PIECES OF RUBBER ALL AROUND. I CALLED FORD AND THEY SENT EDDIE'S TOW TRUCK OUT. A POLICEMAN STOPPED AND CALLED TO MAKE SURE HE WAS ON HIS WAY. EDDIE'S TOOK ME TO THE FIRESTONE DEALER IN TOWN. I WAS TOLD THAT IF I WAS NOT ON THE RECALL SHEET FOR THESE TIRES THAT THEY COULD ADJUST MY TIRE . WELL I WAS NOT ABOUT TO PUT THE SAME TIRE BACK ON KNOWING WHAT WAS HAPPENING FIRESTONE DID NOT TAKE DOWN MY DOT# AND REPORT THIS , THEY DID NOT WANT TO BOTHER WITH ME BECAUSE I WAS NOT ON THE RECALL SHEET. I HAD TO GO SOMEWHERE ELSE WHERE I COULD PURCHASE 5 NEW TIRES EQUIVALENT TO THE TYPE THAT WERE ON MY VEHICLE.I HAD 11,200 MILES ON THOSE TIRES AND AS I SAID I TRAVEL EVERY DAY AROUND THE STATE FOR MY JOB. I WAS NOT GOING TO BE A STATISTIC BEFORE FIRESTONE DECIDES TO RECALL ALL WILDERNESS TIRES . I VALUE MY LIFE TO MUCH. AS YOU CAN SEE I AM VERY UPSET. 1ST FAILURE: TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT DOWNSHIFT. ENGINE CHECK ENGINE & O/D LIGHTS ON. DEALER REPLACED ALL ELECTRONIC TRANS COMPONENTS + VALVE ASSEMBLY. 2ND FAILURE: 2 MONTHS LATER TRANSMISSION SLIPPING, WOULD NOT ENGAGE ANY GEAR. FLUID LEAKING APPARENTLY FROM COOLING LINE.
WE REPLACED THE FIRESTONE TIRES BECAUSE MY WIFE WAS NOT COMFORTABLE RIDING ON THEM EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE NOT RECALLED..AFTER REPLACING THE TIRES, THE GOODYEAR SERVICE MANAGER NOTICED THE TREAD SEPARATING FROM THE TIRES AND BROUGHT IT TO MY ATTENTION..I TOOK THE TIRES TO A FIRESTONE DEALER AND WAS TOLD BY THE MGR. HE COULD DO NOTHING. CONSUMER'S WIFE WAS DRIVING, REARVIEW MIROR SPARKED A FIRE AND CAUSED THE WIRES UNDER DASH TO BURN. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND THEY ORDERED A WIRING HARNESS. BOLTS WERE TAKEN OUT OF THE STEERING SECTION AT THE DEALER. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING AT 55, STEERING WHEEL JUST STARTED SPINNING BECAUSE OF THE BOLTS THAT WERE LEFT OUT. *AK

A PIECE OF TREAD APPROXIMATELY 4 INCHES WIDES BY 3 INCHES HIGH CAME OFF OF THIS PARTICULAR TIRE. WE NOTICED IT WITH THE VEHICLE PARKED. WE TOOK IT TO THE FIRESTONE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THIS TIRE WITH ANOTHER FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT. THE FIRESTONE TIRES WERE RECALLED THE NEXT DAY BUT DO NOT INCLUDE THE ONE WE HAD OR ANY OF THE ONES WE CURRENTLY HAVE. FIRESTONE ORDERED US SOME BRIDGESTONE TIRES TO REPLACE ALL OF THE TIRES ON AUG. 9 AND WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED THEM YET. ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON, 8/5/00, MY WIFE NANCY AND I WERE IN OUR EXPLORER WHEN ONE OF THE TIRES FAILED. WE WERE NORTHBOUND ON M-51 HEADING INTO NILES, MICHIGAN. WE WERE TRAVELING ABOUT 35 MPH. SUDDENLY, WE FELT A VERY NOTICEABLE SHUDDER. I WAS ABLE TO KEEP THE CAR UNDER CONTROL AND PULL OVER. NO ONE WAS HURT. THE TIRE WAS SEPARATED FROM THE RIM. I CALLED FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. THE EXPLORER WAS TOWED TO CAMPBELL FORD IN NILES. TOMORROW (MON. 8/7/00) I HOPE TO LEARN WHAT POSITION FORD MOTOR CO. IS TAKING ON THIS. I DO NOT INTEND TO DRIVE THE CAR WITH THE FIRESTONE TIRES ON IT. I AM ASKING FORD TO REPLACE ALL 5 TIRES (INCLUDING THE SPARE) WITH GOODYEAR TIRES, AT NO COST TO ME. BEFORE NEWS REPORTS SURFACED ABOUT THE FIRESTONE TIRES, I HAD DRIVEN TO PITTSBURGH AND BROUGHT BACK A CARLOAD OF TEENAGERS. I ALSO DROVE TO INDIANAPOLIS AND BACK WITH A FRIEND. WHILE ENGAGING THE TURN SIGNAL AND MAKING A TURN, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL ENGAGE. THE DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED AND I WAS TOLD THIS WAS PART OF A RECALL FOR 1999 MODELS, BUT HE HADN'T HEARD ABOUT THIS ON THE 2000 MODELS. SAID IT IS RESULT OF FAILED "MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH".
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT ANY SPEED VEHICLE STARTED VIBRATING.TIRES ARE FIRESTONE WILDERNESS. *AK
SUV BEGAN TO WEAVE AND COULD NOT BE CONTROLLED, IT WAS RAINING AND INTIALLY I FELT THAT IT WAS HYDROPLANING BUT THE RT FRONT TIRE WOULD NOT GRAB THE PAVEMENT. THE SUV ROLLED DOWN A 25FT EMBANKMENT IN A DENSELY VEGETATED AREA, FELLED SEVERAL TREES, AND FLIPPED. THE DRIVER NOR PASSENGER AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, THE SUV WAS TOTALLED. DUE TO THE MEDIA COVERAGE REGARDING THE FIRESTONE/EXPLORER TIRE I LEARNED THAT ONE OF THE FIRST PROBLEMS EXPERIENCED IS THAT THE TIRE WILL LOSE AIR. I HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING THIS LOSS OF AIR ON THE RT FRONT TIRE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS BEFORE THE ACCIDENT AND HAD ASKED ABOUT IT WHEN THE TIRES WERE ROTATED AND WAS TOLD BY CROSSROAD FORD, "THAT THEY FOUND NO PROBLEMS". SO, I THEN WENT TO THE SALVAGE YARD WHERE THE CAR WAS BEING STORED TO VIEW THE TIRE AND THE CRACKS AND PEELING RUBBER OF THE RT FRONT TIRE WAS OBVIOUS.*AK( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P235/75R15 )
DORING A ROUTINE INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE BY MY MECHANIC DURING THE FIRST OIL CHANGE (3000 MI.), HE NOTED TWO (2) LARGE BUMPS ON THE SIDEWALL OF THE REAR-RIGHT TIRE, SEEMINGLY INDICATING THAT THE SIDEWALL HAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE AT THOSE LOCATIONS. AFTER SHOWING THE BUMPS TO A SHOP EMPLOYEE NAMED JERRY AT TYSON'S FORD, HE SUGGESTED I TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A FIRESTONE DEALER TO HAVE THE TIRE REPLACED. I DID PRECISELY THAT TAKING IT TO THE FIRESTONE TIRE & SERVICE CENTER BY SPRINGFIELD MALL. THERE THE TIRE WAS REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE, BUT I HAD TO PAY THE COST OF LABOR. AFTER MENTIONING THIS TO A FRIEND, I THEN BECAME AWARE OF WHAT SEEMS TO BE A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS TIRE BRAND/MODEL. AFTER ISSUE OF RECALL ALERT, I CHECKED MY TIRES FOR PROBLEMS, I PUT THE RECOMENDED AMOUNT OF PRESSURE IN THE TIRES (THAT WAS REASSIGNED TO 30 PSI BY FIRESTONE) AND NOTICED HALF INCH SLITS ON THE SIDE WALLS JUST OUT SIDE THE WRITING ON THE TIRE, ON 2 OF MY TIRES. AFTER SEEING THE SLITS I THOUGHT THAT I SHOULD REFILL THE TIRES UP TO THE THEIR NORMAL CAPACITY, AND DROVE 3.5 MILES TO A GAS STATION TO DO SO. WHILE FILLING THE TIRES BACK UP TO NORMAL CAPACITY, I NOTICED THAT THE OTHER 2 TIRES WERE STARTING TO SHOWS SIGNS OF THE SAME SPLITTING. IN A CONVERSATION WITH A FRIEND WHO ALSO HAS AN EXPLORER THAT WAS AT THE SAME GAS STATION, I FOUND OUT THAT SHE HAS THE RECALLED TIRES WITH THE VD CODE AND THAT HER TIRES ARE DOING THE SAME AS MINE, BUT THAT MINE DO NOT HAVE THE VD CODE. I HAVE SUBSEQUENTLY SWITCHED VEHICLES WITH MY ROOMMATE BECAUSE HE ONLY HAS A 6 MILE ROUND TRIP DRIVE TO WORK, AND I HAVE A 70 MILE ROUND TRIP TO WORK DAILY. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY VEHICLE LONG DISTANCES, SINCE I LIVE IN THE FLORIDA KEYS AND IT IS A WARM CLIMATE. BUT AS OF YET, I CAN GET NO RESPONSES BACK ABOUT MY TIRES, OTHER THAN TO TAKE THEM TO A CORPORATE-OWNED FIRESTONE DEALER, BUT TO DO SO WOULD MEAN A DRIVE OF 110 MILES ONE WAY. WHICH I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DOING SO. I HAVE SUBMITTED A CLAIM TO FORD VIA EMAIL AND HAVE CALLED FIRESTONE'S TOLL FREE NUMBER, BUT TO ONLY BE TOLD THAT MY TIRES ARE DO NOT HAVE THE CORRECT DOT CODE FOR THE RECALL. MEANWHILE, MY TIRES DO SHOW SIGNS OF MALFUNCTION THAT APPEAR SIMILAR TO TIRES WITH THE "VD" DOT CODE. BECAUSE OF MY SITUATION, THIS HAS PROMPTED ME TO CONTACT YOUR ORGANIZATION. HEARD A LOUD SOUND THAT SOUNDED LIKE AN EXPLOSION, THEN FELT WHEEL LOSING CONTROL AND ABOUT TO GO OVER THE RAMP, VEHICLE HARD TO CONTROL, STOPPED JUST IN TIME , TIRE ON THE DRIVER SIDE EXPLODED.

TIRE TREAD SEPARATED WHEN DRIVING ON HIGHWAY IN NORMAL CONDITIONS. DROVE TO THE SHOULDER OF ROAD WHILE TRYING TO KEEP CONTROL OF VEHICLE. REPORTED PROBLEM TO FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. A HIGHWAY COURTESY VEHICLE STOPPED & GUY SWITCHED OUT TIRE. TOOK SHREDDED TIRE TO FIRESTONE (LOS COLINAS) FOR REPLACEMENT. FIRESTONE DEALER SAID, "THERE WAS PROBABLY A NAIL IN THERE SOMEWHERE." THE BAD TIRE HAD SHREDDED TREAD BUT THE INNER TUBE PART LOOKED INTACT - NO NAIL AND ALITTLE BIT OF AIR. REPLACED TIRE WITH ANOTHER WILDERNESS AT. NONE OF THE TIRES KEPT AIR WELL AFTER 8,000 MILES. REPLACED ALL TIRES WITH BRIDGESTONE DUELER HL AT ANOTHER DEALER. THE WILDERNESS ATS ON MY VEHICLE WERE NOT THE RECALLED TIRES BUT I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P255R70/16 )
