I HAVE HAD ATLEAST 5 INSTANCES IN THE YEAR THAT I HAVE DRIVEN THIS VEHICLE. THE EXPLORER LITERALLY LEAVES THE ROAD AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IF YOU ENCOUNTER ROADBUMPS. CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IS LOST IN THIS FRIGHTENING INSTANCE AS THE VEHICLE CAN "BOUNCE" AND LOSE ITS TRACTION ON THE ROADWAY. THE FIRST EPISODE I REMEMBER WAS SOON AFTER LEASING THE VEHICLE AND DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. *AK
IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR I NOTICED A LARGE BULGE IN THE SIDEWALL OF THE L/R TIRE. I CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD TO GO TO FIRESTONE. I WENT TO THE FIRESTONE STORE IN NEWARK CALIFORNIA AND THE MECHANIC PULLED OFF THE BULGE AND REVEALED A WHITE ELEMENT OF THE TIRE. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED, BUT IT WAS OBVIOUS THEN THAT THE TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE AND HAD MANUFACTURING PROBLEMS.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 255/70R/16 )
FIRESTONE WILDERNESS P255/70R16 ON THIS 2000 TRUCK. SIDEWALL SEPARATED AFTER 40 MINUTES OF DRIVING AND PARKING. FIRESTONE WAS CONTACTED. *AK
FIRESTONE TIRE (P235 75 R15) FAILED, CAUSING VEHICLE TO CRASH AND INJURE TWO PEOPLE, THE VEHICLE IS NOW A TOTAL LOSS. *SLC
THIS IS A CHRONIC PROBLEM AFFECTING ELECTRONIC (WIPERS, TURN SIGNAL, INSTRUMENTATION). *AK
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING AT 30MPH AND LOST BRAKING POWER. DEALER INSPECTED VEHICLE & FOUND A BRAKE LINE PROBLEM. DEALER DIDN'T HAVE PARTS & THEY HAVE TO COME OFF ASSEMBLY LINE TO FIX IT. *AK
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A MOUNTAIN IN LOW GEAR, TRAVELING 15MPH WITH THE ROAD BEING SLIPPERY, HIT AN ICE PATCH, AND VEHICLE STARTED SWERVING. WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL VEHICLE AND IT HIT AN EMBANKMENT, AND NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED.*AK

PE02000; TIRE TREAD SEPARATION: WHILE DRIVING 25/35 MPH, REAR TIRE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BLEW UP AFTERING BEING HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE, RESULTING IN A CRASH. WE WERE COMING DOWN THE BACK OF MT. LEMON IN TUCSON.AZ AND THE TIRE WENT FLAT. WE HAD TO DRIVE UNTIL WE CAME TO A SAFE, LEVEL LOCATION IN ABLE TO CHANGE THE TIRE. WHILE SON WAS DRIVING, HE PUT VEHICLE INTO OVERDRIVE BEFORE PASSING AN INTERSECTION. WHEN HE TOOK FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR TO STEP ON THE BRAKES, VEHICLE ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL, CRASHING INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. *AK
REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY CAUSED VEHICLE TO VIBRATE AT 70MPH & OVER. WHEN TRAVELING AT A LESSER SPEED, IT IS HARD TO DETECT VIBRATION. HAVE TAKEN TO DEALER, AND INFORMED CONSUMER AXLE MANUFACTURER KNEW OF PROBLEM, BUT DID NOT HAVE A SOLUTION FOR IT.*AK
3/10, ONE MONTH AFTER PURCHASE. DRIVING HEARD LOUD BANG, LOOKED TO MY BACK RIGHT AND SAW DEBRI FLYING IN THE AIR. THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE, I PULLED OVER AND MY TIRE WAS TOTALLY FLAT. , IT EXPLODED. 7/4 DRIVING ABOUT 40, HEARD LOUD BANG FROM FRONT OF CAR, CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 65 MPH ON HIGHWAY, AND WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING INTERMITTENTLY. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM. ALSO, WHEN CONSUMEER STARTED VEHICLE HE HAD TO SHAKE SHIFT SELECTOR IN ORDER FOR IT TO CRANK. FILURES OCCUR SPORADICALLY. *AK
WE WERE ON A DRIVE, WHICH IS 90 MILES ONE WAY, TO MY PARENTS FOR DINNER. IT WAS 1PM ON THE 6TH OF MARCH AND THE WEATHER WAS BETWEEN 95 DEGREES OR HIGHER. 10 MILES INTO THE DRIVE, I NOTICED THAT THE TRUCK WAS NOT HANDLING AS CRISP WHEN CHANGING FROM LANE TO LANE AND ASKED MY WIFE IF THE RIDE FELT DIFFERENT, ESPECIALLY SINCE SHE DRIVES IT DURING THE WEEK. SHE DID NOTICE ALSO THAT IT SEEMED TO BE SWAYING WHEN I CHANGED FROM LANE TO LANE BUT SHE THOUGHT THAT I WAS DOING IT. I, FROM PAST EXPERIENCE, THOUGHT I SHOULD STOP AND CHECK THE TIRES AND JUST IN TIME BECAUSE WHEN I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE AIR RUSHED OUT OF THE TIRE. I EXAMINED THE TIRE AND NOTICED THAT IT LOOKED AS IF IT HAD SEPARATED INSIDE THE TIRE BUT DID NOT THINK ANYTHING OF IT. I PUT ON THE SPARE AND CONTINUED ON THE TRIP. I LET MY FATHER TAKE A LOOK AT IT AND HE IMMEDIATELY SAID THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TIRE. I ASKED HIM IF HE THOUGHT SOMETHING MIGHT HAVE PUNCTURED THE TIRE BUT HE, LIKE I DID, DID NOT THINK SO,,,,, ESPECIALLY SINCE I STOPPED AS SOON AS I NOTICED THE PROBLEM. MY FATHER HAS 2 18 WHEELERS AND CHANGES THE TIRES ON THEM HIMSELF AND IF PRETTY KNOWLEDGABLE ABOUT ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DEAL WITH A VEHICLE. I HAD MY WIFE THE NEXT MORNING TO TAKE THE TIRE TO A LOCAL FIRESTONE DEALER. I CALLED AND SPOKE WITH SOMEONE WHO TOLD ME THEY LOOKED AT THE TIRE AND THAT SOMETHING PUNCTURED IT. I ASKED THE GUY THAT I WAS DRIVING AND I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT I DID NOT RUN OVER ANYTHING IN THE ROAD. I AM POSITIVE. NEVERTHELESS, IT DID NOT MATTER BECAUSE I NEEDED A NEW TIRE AND THEY WERE NOT GOING TO REPLACE, ALTHOUGH THE DEALER SAID THAT IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE ROAD HAZARD WARRANTY. ALTHOUGH THE GUY RUNNING THE DESK SAID THAT THE HAD A HOLE IN IT AND PUNCTURE INSIDE, THE MECHANIC WHO CHANGED THE TIRE WROTE ON THE WORK ORDER "RAN FLAT-INSIDE CHEWED UP" INDICATING THAT THIS WAS NOT JUST A HOLE PUNCTURE BUT SOMETHING REALLY DID HAPPEN TO THIS TIRE. DRIVING TO INDIANAPOLIS ON A COLD MARCH NIGHT--SUDDEN COLLAPSE OF RIGHT FRONT TIRE--FRONT FACE OF TIRE COMPLETELY SEPERATED AT EDGE OF TRED---NOT A DECATUR, IL PLANT TIRE!--TOW TRUCK MECHANIC CALLED FOR HELP VIA 911--SAID HE NEVER SAW A SIMILAR BLOW-OUT--ALSO, HE REMOVED LUGNUTS BY HAND BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT TIGHTENED AT THE FACTORY--INCIDENT REPORTED TO SALES MGR. VEHICLE HAS ROUGH IDLE ALMOST TO THE POINT OF STALLING. DEALER SAYS THEY CANNOT REPAIR. FORD CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE SAYS THEY CAN DO NOTHING. *AK
THE TURN SIGNAL AND WIPER SWITCH WERE REPLACED PRIOR TO RECALL (OOV-072) WHICH WAS PROBABLY THE REASON FOR FAILURE. *ET
WE PURCHASED A 2000 FORD EXPLORER IN FEB OF 2000, WE HAD AN ACCIDENT WHERE THE VEHICLE SLID OF OF THE ROAD AND THEN ROLLED. WE WERE DRIVING UNDER THE POSTED SPPED LIMIT AND NO OTHER CARS WERE INVOLVED. IT WAS RAINING AND WET AND WE HYDROPLANED OF THE ROAD. UNFORTUNATELY I ONLY HAVE MINIMAL INFORMATION ON THE VEHICAL BECAUSE IT WAS TOTALED SOON AFTER IT WAS PURCHASED. THE INFORMATION THAT I HAVE PROVIDED IS FROM THE ACCIDENT REPORT AND MEMORY AS ALL PAPER-WORK ETC.. WAS STILL IN THE CAR AND SUBSEQUENLY LOST IN THE ACCIDENT. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND OUT IF THE CAR WAS EQUIPED WITH THE FIRESTONE TIRES THAT ARE BEING RECALLED - AS THAT MAY HAVE ATTRIBUTED TO THE SERVERITY OF THE ACCIDENT. I KNOW THAT WHEN I WENT BACK TO SIGN THE EXPLORER OVER TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY THE TIRES WERE SERVERLY DAMAGED. I BROKE MY COLLAR BONE AND MY EXPECTANT WIFE ONLY HAD MINOR SCRAPS (THE BABY TURNED OUT FINE). START UP MAKES CLICKING NOISE AND SOMETIMES WON'T START FOR A FEW MINUTES. HAS DONE IT TOO MANY TIMES TO COUNT. THE DEALER CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THEY SAY IT DOESN'T DO IT WHEN THEY HAVE IT.
SEVERE VIBRATION FROM FRONT OF VEHICLE WHEN DRIVING 65 MPH OR MORE. VEHICLE BEEN IN DEALER'S SHOP ON FIVE OCCASIONS, AND PROBLEM STILL REOCCURRING.*AK THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS THE TIRES CONSUMER THEN REPLACED THE TIRES, BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS.*JB
CONSUMER HAS GONE THROUGH THE BOARD FROM THE LEMON LAW TO TRY & CONFIRM THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE STABILITY OF THE VEHICLE. BOARD DISAGREED WITH THE CONSUMER. WHEN TRAVELING 65-70MPH, CONSUMER STATED THAT IT WAS VERY HARD TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF VEHICLE. SERVICEMAN FROM DEALERSHIP TEST DROVE VEHICLE & FOUND THAT THERE COULD BE A PROBLEM, BUT DIDN'T CONFIRM IT. THEY WERE REFUSING TO GIVE MONEY BACK FOR THE UNWANTED VEHICLE. CONSUMER SAID IT WAS SWAYING & WONDERED WHEN GOING AROUND CURVES. *AK PROBLEM COULD ALSO BE RELATED TO FAULTY FIRESTONE WILDERNESS 16" TIRES. *SLC
DRIVESHAFT BROKE TWICE, AND HAD BEEN REPLACED IN JULY OF 2000, AND APRIL OF 2001. DURING FIRST INCIDENT, CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT YOKE AND ANOTHER COMPONENTS WAS CRACKED. NO DETERMINATION HAS BEEN MADE AS TO REASON FOR THIS DEFECT. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS.*AK
WHILE TURNING ONTO A SIDE ROAD AT NIGHT, CONSUMER ENCOUNTERED ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT WAS BLOCKING THE ROAD WITH NO LIGHTS ON. THE OTHER DRIVER WAS HELPING SOMEONE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. CONSUMER TRIED TO SWERVE AND RAN INTO THE OTHER DRIVER'S LEFT SIDE OF THE CAR. CONSUMER IMMEDIATELY SMELLED A FUNNY SMELL. GOT OUT OF THE CAR, AND ABOUT MINUTE LATER NOTICED A TRICKLE OF FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. TWO MINUTES LATER, THE WHOLE CAR WAS IN FLAMES. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AT IMPACT. *AK *ML
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 45MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND STEERING WHEEL STARTED VIBRATING. ALSO, THEY HEARD A POPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE BACK. RIGHT REAR TIRE WAS FLAT. CONSUMER PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER TO CHANGE THE FLAT TIRE, AND CAR WENT OUT CONTROL, AND WHIPPED INTO FOUR LANES ON THE HIGHWAY. CAR WAS TURNED THE OPPOSITE WAY OF THE TRAFFIC. *AK
ON 12/6/99 ABOUT 10PM, AS I ENTERED CURVE OF RAMP INTO I-75 SOUTH THE RIGHT-REAR TIRE FAILED. THE DAMAGE WAS ON THE SIDEWALL NEAR THE TREAD/RUNNING SURFACE. A GASH EXTENDING ABOUT 1/3 THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE TIRE WAS CREATED. ALTHOUGH MY TIRES ARE NOT FROM THE DECATUR PLANT, I RECOGNIZED THE SAME OR SIMILAR FAILURE FEATURES AS SHOWN ON TELEVISION RECENTLY. MY TIRES START WITH 8XHL. AT THAT TIME THE FAILED TIRE WAS REPLACED UNDER MY NEW VEHICLE TIRE WARRANTY. RECENTLY, REPLACEMNET OF OTHERS WAS DENIED ON THE BASIS THAT THESE TIRES ARE NOT COVERED BY THE ACTUAL RECALL AT THIS TIME. I AM CERTAIN THAT THESE TIRES ARE ALSO UNSAFE.( DOT NUMBER: 8XHL TIRE SIZE: P235/75R15 )
WHILE DRIVING AT 65MPH REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE BLEWOUT. VEHICLE WAS A FORD EXPLORER. DEALER COULDN'T FIND A REASON FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. *AK FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT P255/70/R16 *MW
WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED IN A PANIC STOP THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING WHICH CAUSED A MINOR COLLISION. DEALER HAS INSPECTED AND WILL REPAIR THE VEHICLE. 8AK
OUR 3 YR. OLD DAUGHTER WAS PUTTING THE SEAT UP TO GET IN TO THE BACK AND WHEN THE SEAT CAME FORWARD THE TIP OF HER FINGER WAS CUT OFF BY SEAT SPRING MECANISM. THE FRONT SIDE OF THE MECANISM IS COVERED IN PLASTIC, BUT THE BACK SIDE IS OPEN. A VERTCLE PIECE OF FLAT BAR THAT IS MOUNTED STATIONARY TO THE SEAT MECANISM HAS A HOLE DRILLED THROUGH IT AND THE MOVING PART OF THE SEAT HAS ANOTHER PIECE OF FLAT BAR MOUNTED TO IT THAT SLIDES PAST THE STATIONARY PIECE WHICH HAS THE HOLE IN IT WHEN THE SEAT LEANS FORWARD FOR ENTRY INTO THE BACK SEAT. IT'S AT JUST THE RIGHT HEIGHT FOR SMALL CHILDREN TO REACH WHEN PUTTING THE SEAT UP. OUR DAUGHTER WAS USING HER RIGHT HAND TO RELEASE THE SEAT LATCH AND USING HER LEFT HAND TO SUPPORT HERSELF WHEN HER INDEX FINGER ON HER LEFT HAND WENT INTO THE HOLE AND WHEN THE SEAT RELEASED THE FLAT BAR ATTACHED TO THE SEAT SLID PAST THE HOLE, SLICING HER FINGER OFF. *AK

EVERYTIME IT RAINS TAIL LIGHTS FILL UP WITH WATER. ALSO, WATER ENTERS IN THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE BACK WINDOWS. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON 4 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. DEALER HAS RESEALED LIGHTS AND WINDOWS AS REMEDY, BUT THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS.
WHILE TURNING RIGHT / LEFT THE VEHICLE VIBRATES IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. DEALER SAYS IT'S NORMAL. ALSO, WHILE TEST DRIVING VEHICLE DEALER CLAIMED IT ACTED LIKE THE CLUTCHES IN THE POSITION UNIT WERE GRABBING. SO THEY ADDED A FRICTION MODIFIER TO REAR DIFFERENTIAL AND TRANSFER CASE. PROBLEM SOMEWHAT DIMINISHED, BUT NOT ENTIRELY SOLVED. *AK
1ST INCIDENT FIRESTONE TIRE BLEW OUT AT 2000 MI. CONTACTED FORD DLR...SAID NOTHING THEY COULD DO IT WAS A FIRESTONE PROBLEM. THEN WENT TO FIRESTONE DLR IN LEBANON, MO..SAID NO WARRANTY NOTHING THEY COULD DO! HAD TO BUY NEW TIRE COST $105.00. I THEN CALLED FORD MTR. CO. REP. SAID NOT THEIR PROBLEM. INFORMED THEM TIRES NO GOOD SHOULD LAST 2000 MI. REFUSED TO DISCUSS. 2ND INCIDENT WAS APPROX. 100 MI. LATER , THE NEXT MONTH. THAT TIRE CAME APART . BELT BROKE LOOSE FROM TIRE. DECIDED TOO DANGEROUS NOT TAKING CHANCE. WE WERE FORCED TO 4 DIFFERENT BRAND TIRES @105.00 EACH. WE NOW HAVE 3 NEW FIRESTONE TIRES SIT IN DRIVE. TO DANGEROUS TO EVEN GIVE AWAY. NO HELP FROM FORD DEALER,OR FORD MTR CO., OR FIRESTONE. NOW, THE WORLD IS FINDING OUT WHAT WE ALREADY KNEW BUT PAID FOR NEW TO SAVE LIVES. WE WANT OUR MONEY.
