MY 2000 FORD EXPLORER XLT CAUGHT ON FIRE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. MY DAUGHTER AND I WERE AT A FRIEND'S HOUSE, WE WERE IN THE PROCESS OF BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVE WHEN SMOKE STARTED COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I PULLED THE CAR OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PUT IT IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, THE SMOKE GOT MUCH WORSE. MY DAUGHTER AND I GOT OUT OF THE EXPLORER JUST AS IT WAS CATCHING FIRE. WE CALLED 911, THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS. THE WHOLE INCIDENT IS UNBELIEVABLE, WE ARE SHOCKED. MY INSURANCE ADJUSTER INFORMED ME THAT IT WASN'T UNCOMMON AND MENTIONED SOMETHING ABOUT A RECALL ON THE CRUISE CONTROL. I BOUGHT MY EXPLORER IN INDIANA, BUT HAVE MOVED TO TENNESSEE. I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL, I'M STILL WAITING ON MY INSURANCE COMPANY TO GET BACK WITH ME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK, THE GEAR SELECTOR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO THE PARK POSITION. THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL TO ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO REMAIN STATIONARY AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE CONTACT POSITIONED BRICKS IN FRONT OF EACH TIRE TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING. THE FAILURE WAS A CONTINUOUS OCCURRENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE GEAR SHIFTER CABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE PART BEING DISCONTINUED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPLORER . THE CONTACT STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. SHE THEN PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. SHE THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND DROVE DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED HER THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED FROM A CRACK IN THE CYLINDER HEAD OF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER OWNERS EXPENSE. WHEN IT WAS AT THE DEALER SHIP THEY TOOK THE VEHICLE APART WITHOUT THE DRIVERS PERMISSION. THE DRIVER CALLED AN INVESTIGATOR FROM THE BUREAU OF AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THEY USED A DEFECTIVE ENGINE FOR THE 2000 FORD MODELS AND FOUND OUT AFTER A YEAR AND THAT'S WHY THE Y DISCONTINUED USING THAT SPECIFIC ENGINE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93104 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93300.

HE ASSUMED THAT THE CHILD SAFETY LOCKS WERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. HE FOUND SEVERAL CONSUMERS ONLINE WHO WERE EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY NEVER HEARD OF THIS FAILURE AND COULD NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 108,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SEAT WAS RECLINING FARTHER THAN NORMAL. WHEN THE CONTACT ENTERED THE VEHICLE AND SAT BACK, THE SEAT FAILED. 2000 FORD EXPLORER 4.0 V6 SOHC WITH LESS THAN 120,000MILES- 5 SPEED OVERDRIVE TRANSMISSION IS GOING INTO FAILURE. SLIPS CONSISTENTLY WHEN SHIFTING BETWEEN SECOND AND THIRD GEAR, RPMS HAVE TO RAISE WELL ABOVE THE NECESSARY LEVEL TO ACTUATE THE SHIFTING MECHANISM, WHETHER IT MAY BE VALVES OR THE BANDS. *TR

WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AN ONCOMING VEHICLE BROADSIDED THE DRIVER SIDE WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ROLL ONCE AND IT LANDED IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION. THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT FAILED TO KEEP THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED. NO ONE WAS EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE BUT THE SEATBELT DID NOT LOCK AND THE PASSENGER WAS THROWN AROUND INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE SEAT BELTS PRESENTED A SAFETY RISK AND DID NOT OPERATE PROPERLY DURING THE CRASH. NO ONE OTHER THAN THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES. SHE FRACTURED 5 RIBS ON HER LEFT SIDE AND HAD A HIMATOMA ON HER RIGHT ARM. BOTH PASSENGERS WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND DESTROYED. THE CONTACT HAS BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL AT SPEAKING WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 57,000. SHE DISCOVERED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE PERTAINING TO THE REAR WINDOW FAILURE, BUT THERE WERE NO RECALLS. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THIS IS A MAJOR DEFECT. SHE INITIALLY THOUGHT THAT SOMEONE SHOT THE GLASS WITH A GUN. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 186,000.
SPARK PLUG CLOSEST TO DRIVER DOES NOT SEAT AND COMES OUT. NOT A FULL BLOW OUT OF IT, BUT THE PLUG FEELS REAL LOOSE. I TRIED NEW PLUG BUT IT STILL FEELS LOOSE. *TR

IT IS KNOWN THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH FORD SUV'S/TRUCKS FROM LATE 90'S AND EARLY 2000'S, BUT FORD REFUSES TO "ACKNOWLEDGE" THE ISSUE. *TR

2000 FORD EXPLORER SELF IGNITED AFTER BEING PARKED FOR 4 HOURS. ALSO CAUGHT CAR ON FIRE THAT WAS IN DRIVEWAY AHEAD OF IT, LANDSCAPING, TV CABLE AND OUTSIDE CORNER OF HOUSE. *TR
I NOTICED A SLIGHT HESITATION IN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR ONCE IN A WHILE YESTERDAY. WITHIN 5 MILES THE O/D LIGHT WAS FLASHING AND BY THE TIME I GO HOME(LUCKILY)5 MILES LATER, REVERSE WAS NOW NOT WORKING. I HAVE A CAR THAT HAS ALREADY HAD 1 TRANSMISSION REPLACED, NEEDING ANOTHER ONE. I AM EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT I DID NOT GET STRANDED!!!! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, ANOTHER DRIVER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE FLAMES UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. SHE PULLED OVER ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED FLAMES UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND THE HOOD. THE CONTACT QUICKLY REMOVED HER CHILDREN AND CHILD SEAT FROM THE VEHICLE. IN A MATTER OF SECONDS, THE HOOD BURST INTO FLAMES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO THE JUNKYARD. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WILL NOT INVESTIGATE THE FAILURE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE COMPLETE COVERAGE. THE MIAMI MIDWAY POLICE DEPARTMENT FILED REPORT NUMBER PPOC9A02C02188. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 96,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE SPEED CONTROL ASSEMBLY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO THE RECALL REMEDY. TWO WEEKS LATER, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE STEERING COLUMN BEGAN SMOKING. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND WAS NOT INSPECTED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR DID NOT CAUSE THE STEERING COLUMN TO BEGIN SMOKING. THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE TO BE LEFT AT THE DEALER FOR THE STEERING COLUMN TO BE TAKEN APART FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 119,065.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDERGOING AN OIL CHANGE, THE MECHANIC FOUND ANTIFREEZE IN THE OIL. NEW OIL WAS PLACED IN THE VEHICLE AND, ONCE IT WAS RESTARTED, ANTIFREEZE WAS FOUND IN THE OIL AGAIN. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER FOR ASSISTANCE AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE HEAD GASKET. THEY FURTHER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A BLOWN HEAD GASKET OR A FAILED HEAD BOLT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED WITH THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEATED SEAT ACTIVATED, AN UNEXPECTED VOLTAGE OF HEAT PENETRATED THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE SEAT. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS OR INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE SEAT AND STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO A WIRING SHORT CIRCUIT, WHICH BURNED THE FOAM PADDING OF THE SEAT. THE HEATING UNIT WAS REPLACED AND THE SEAT OPERATED NORMALLY. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 140,000. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND ASSISTED IN EXTINGUISHING THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE IS STILL PARKED IN THE CONTACT'S DRIVEWAY. HE SENT THE MANUFACTURER SOME REQUESTED DOCUMENTS. FORD EXPLAINED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THAT VEHICLE FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL, WHICH WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN PERFORMED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE STILL OCCURS. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. AT 166,000 HEAD GASKET BLEW PLUS THERE WERE OTHER ENGINE PROBLEMS. REPLACED WITH ANOTHER ENGINE. NOW TRANSMISSION IS GOING OUT. IT WILL GO INTO REVERSE FINE BUT WILL GO INTO DRIVE WITH PROBLEMS. IF VEHICLE IS COLD IT WILL GO INTO DRIVE FASTER THAN WHEN IT IS WARMED UP. AT WARM TEMP IT MAY TAKE SEVERAL TRIES OF SHIFTING FROM PARK BACK TO DRIVE OR WAITING SEVERAL MINUTES FOR IT TO DROP INTO DRIVE AFTER SHIFTING OUT OF PARK. HAVE ONLY OWNED THIS VEHICLE LESS THAN 2 YEARS. *TR
MY DRIVER'S DOOR WAS CONSTANTLY GETTING JAMMED. THE LOCK WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN I HIT THE POWER LOCK BUTTON. SO NOW MY DOOR OPENS WHEN IT FEELS LIKE. *TR

HE EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE FRONT STABILIZER BAR LINK FAILED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCES BEFOREHAND. MULTISWITCH IN 2000 FORD EXPLORER FAILED AND GAVE OFF SMOKE, AFRAID OF FIRE. *TR
UPON OPENING MY TAILGATE ONE DAY, THE LEFT SIDE LIFTGATE HINGE POPPED OFF. AS A RESULT, THE LEFT SIDE OF THE REAR WINDSHIELD IS OUT OF PLACE, AND IS BARELY HANGING ON. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A BODY SHOP, AND WAS TOLD THAT I'D NEED TO GET THE REPLACEMENT PART (LIFTGATE HINGE) FROM FORD. A FORD DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $300 TO REPAIR. *TR
O/D LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND WOULDN'T CORRECT WITH THE BUTTON ON THE GEAR SHIFT. EXPLORER WOULD REV AT INAPPROPRIATE TIMES. MILEAGE HAS DROPPED FROM 21 TO 16 MPG WHICH OUTRAGEOUS. TOOK IT IN TO BE CHECKED EXPECTING THE SENSORS TO BE OFF BUT WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION WAS SHOT, THE CONVERTER WAS BUSTED, METAL IN THE TRANSMISSION, WOULD NEED TO COMPLETELY REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
IN AVOIDANCE OF HITTING A COW, I ROLLED MY FORD EXPLORER AT LEAST 3 TIMES AND NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, FRONT NOR THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS. MY HUSBAND AND MYSELF WERE FORTUNATE TO COME OUT WITH MINOR INJURIES. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THE HAVE NOT YET OFFERED TO SETTLE. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WILL NO LONGER LOCK AUTOMATICALLY. I HAVE TO PHYSICALLY PUSH THE BUTTON DOWN AND SOMETIMES IT WON'T UNLOCK. *TR
WHEN I TURNED ON MY LEFT TURN SIGNAL, IT DOESN'T BLINK. IT JUST FREEZES AND SMOKE COMES FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. ONCE I TURNED OFF THE TURN SIGNAL IT STOPPED SMOKING. *TR
DURING AN UP-HILL LEFT HAND TURN AT SPEED LESS THAN 10 MILES PER HOUR THE DRIVER'S SIDE SWAY BAR LINK FAILED AND BROKE WITH A LOUD BANG. A SWAY BAR LINK KIT WAS PURCHASED FROM NAPA AND REPLACED BY THE OWNER. *TR
RECALL NOTICE FROM FORD ON MY CRUISE CONTROL 8 MONTHS AGO. I GOT A NOTICE IN SEPTEMBER OF 2007 TELLING ME TO GET IT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR A REPAIR. IT IS NOW APRIL OF 2008 AND I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH BOTH THE LOCAL DEALER HALDERMAN FORD OF ALLENTOWN,PA AND THE TOLL FREE NUMBER OF FORD FOR RECALLS. BOTH LOCATIONS TELL ME THAT THEY HAVE NO IDEA OF THE AVAILABILITY OF REPAIR PARTS. ALMOST 8 MONTHS LATER???? AND STILL NO PARTS TO REPAIR THIS. AND TO THINK THAT I SHOULD NEED ANOTHER VEHICLE, I WILL BE HARD PRESSED TO CONSIDER FORD AFTER BEING TREATED THIS WAY. *TR
BEARING BROKE ON FORD EXPLORER. WHEEL WAS ALMOST OFF THE VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY GOING SLOW. *TR
DRIVER POWER LOCKING DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK FROM THE OUTSIDE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOORS ON HER VEHICLE LATCH AND UNLATCH INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
IN JANUARY 2008 I TOOK MY 2000 FORD EXPLORER TO COURTESY FORD, IN ALTOONA, PA TO HAVE THE RECALL SERVICE PERFORMED. THEY DID NOT HAVE THE NECESSARY PARTS, SO THEY ORDERED THEM AND DISCONNECTED MY CRUISE CONTROL TO MAKE THE CAR SAFE TO DRIVE. ON FEBRUARY 26, I CALLED AND WAS TOLD MY PART HAD ARRIVED. WHEN I TOOK IT IN, THEY DISCOVERED THAT ONLY ONE OF TWO REQUIRED PARTS HAD ARRIVED, AND THEY COULD NOT REPAIR MY CRUISE CONTROL. I LEFT ON A BUSINESS TRIP THE FOLLOWING DAY. I WAS TO RETURN ON MARCH 7, 2008 AND MY GIRLFRIEND AND THREE DAUGHTERS WERE DRIVING TO THE AIRPORT TO PICK ME UP. ABOUT 40 OR 50 MILES INTO THE TRIP SHE NOTICED THE CAR WAS LOSING POWER BECAUSE IT WAS NOT PULLING UP A HILL WELL AND THE ENGINE BEGAN RUNNING ROUGHLY. SHE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AT THIS POINT, THE EXPLORER HAD A LITTLE BIT OF SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. SHE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WAITED A MOMENT, THEN SAW THE SMOKE GETTING WORSE. SHE AND MY DAUGHTERS GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND SHE CALLED 911 FOR HELP. OTHER DRIVERS STOPPED TO ASSIST, BUT WHILE SHE WAS ON THE PHONE THE EXPLORER BROKE INTO FLAMES, STARTING FROM UNDER THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON APRIL 8, 2008 AND THEY STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT AND GLOBE WIRING WERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES. THE COST OF THE REPAIR IS $800. ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURER, THE DEALER INFORMED THEM THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT UNDER THE HOOD; THEREFORE, THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT HIS VEHICLE IS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 00V072000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:FUSES AND CIRCUIT BREAKERS) AND HE DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE. I AM DEEPLY DISGUSTED WITH YOUR SERVICE. I HAD FILED A COMPLAINT ONLINE AND ON THE PHONE ABOUT THE VEHICLE I HAVE SPECIFIED ON THIS ONLINE SYSTEM. THIS WAS DONE BACK IN 2011 AND FOLLOWED THROUGH WITH THE MANUFACTURE AND THE CA STATE DEPT. OF INVESTIGATIONS WITH DMV. I HAD ALSO SENT THE 20 PAGE OR SO COMPLAINT DIRECTLY TO A CA STATE SENATOR. I WAS SOLD A VEHICLE WITH A FIRE RECALL STILL IN EFFECT AND REGISTERED TO THE AUTO DEALER OF AUTO WEST GROUP. THE VEHICLE COME TO FIND OUT HAD WELL OVER 15 SAFETY RELATED RECALLS IN ITS HISOTRY. FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO AQUIRE COPIES OF WHAT I HAD SENT INTO YOUR DEPARTMENT, THE FTC, THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA AND THE BUREAU OF AUTO REPAIRS. NOW I FIND THAT I AM BEING STONEWALLED AND BEING TOLD THINGS LIKE THEY NO LONGER HAVE ANY RECORDS OF THE PROBLEMS. I NEVER RECEIVED A REPLACMENT VEHICLE AND I WAS IN FACT A VICTIM OF FINANCIAL FRAUD ASSOCIATED WITH THE PURCHASING OF THIS VEHICLE. BANK OF AMERICA AND THE USED VEHICLE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALER. SINCE THIS TIME THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA HAD ENACTED A FEW NEW LEMON LAW PROTECTIONS. I AM CERTAIN THAT MY PAPERWORK AND COMPLAINT WRITE-UPS ASSISTED IN SERVING THE LEGISLATION. IT COULDN'T BE MORE APPARENT THAT I AM BEING HARASSED AS A WHISTLE BLOWER.. I HAVE RECEIVED NO INFORMATION OR FOLLOWUP LETTERS FROM ANY SOURCE. MY DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LOCK GETS STUCK IN THE LOCKED POSITION RANDOMLY. THIS OCCURS BOTH WHILE DRIVING AND PARKED. IT ALSO EFFECTS THE CHILD SAFETY LOCKS. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW. I RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM FORD ON A RECALL FOR THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH (SCDS) IN AUGUST OF 2007. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO ARRINGTON AND BLOUNT (PLACE OF PURCHASE) TO ADDRESS THE RECALL IN EARLY NOVEMBER. THE SWITCH WAS REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE, THE WIRE TO THE SWITCH WAS TIED TO FIXTURE AND I WAS TOLD TO CALL THE DEALER TO FIND OUT WHEN THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL... I THEN RECEIVED A POSTCARD TELLING ME I COULD HAVE A "TEMPORARY" FIX OF HAVING MY CRUISE CONTROL COMPLETELY DISABLED. AS OF THIS DATE, I AM NOW BEING TOLD THAT THE PART MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL JANUARY 2008. I HAVE A LENGTHY COMMUTE, I PAID FOR AND DO USE MY CRUISE CONTROL FEATURE.
