4-DOOR VEHICLE TYPICALLY DRIVE TO WORK AND HOME BETWEEN 2002-2007. NO ONE TYPICALLY EVER SAT IN THE BACK, HOWEVER, IF ANY ONE DID SIT IN THE BACK THE COMPLAINED THE DOORS WERE DIFFICULT TO OPEN. MY THOUGHTS WERE USER ERROR AND THOSE DOORS ARE RARELY USED. AFTER MY SON WAS BORN IN SEPTEMBER 2007 I NOTICED THE DOORS WERE DIFFICULT TO OPEN, AT ONE POINT I THOUGHT I WOULD BREAK THE DOOR HANDLE. MY MOM, MY SON, WHO IS NOW 5, HAVE AN EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TIME OPENING THE DOORS AND MY GRANDMOTHER IS NOT ABLE TO OPEN THE DOORS USING THE DOOR HANDLES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V336000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PARTS FOR THE REPAIR WOULD BE UNAVAILABLE UNTIL DECEMBER OF 2007. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE CONTROL SWITCH DEACTIVATED. HE IS HANDICAPPED AND WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE VEHICLE CATCHING FIRE AND WOULD LIKE THE REPAIR TO BE MADE IMMEDIATELY. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE. THE VIN, PURCHASE DATE, ENGINE SIZE, CURRENT MILEAGE, AND DEALER INFORMATION WERE UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACTS WIFE NOTICED SMOKE RISING FROM THE REARVIEW MIRROR AFTER SHE STARTED THE VEHICLE. SHE SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF, BUT THE HEADLIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT AN ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE WIRE CAUSED THE FAILURE AND THEY MADE THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SINCE THE REPAIR, THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD NO LONGER ILLUMINATE AUTOMATICALLY. THE DEALER STATED THIS COULD CAUSE A FIRE. THE CONSUMER STATED A RECALL WAS PERFORMED ON THE CRUISE CONTROL 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,865 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,000. THIS IS IN REGARD TO A RECALL # 05S28 BY FORD MOTOR CO. - SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH, RISK OF UNDERHOOD FIRE (2000 FORD EXPLORER XLT ). ON SEP.19,2007 THE DEALER DISCONNECTED THE SWITCH AND INFORMED ME THAT THE NEW HARNESS WILL BE INSTALLED SOON, WHEN PARTS ARRIVE. IT'S BEEN OVER FOUR MONTHS, THE REPAIR HAS NOT BEEN COMPLETED AND NOW THE DEALER IS TELLING ME THAT MAYBE IN JUNE 2008. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT MORE THAN REASONABLE PERIOD OF TIME HAS PASSED FOR A SIMPLE REPAIR LIKE THIS. FORD IS NOT FOLLOWING THROUGH WITH THE COMPLETION WITH THE RECALL. THE LACK OF SPEED CONTROL IS VERY INCONVENIENT FOR ME DURING MY FREQUENT FREEWAY TRIPS. THE DEALER OFFERED ME RECONNECTING THE SWITCH IF I SIGNED THE WAIVER OF LIABILITY. I?M NOT GOING TO SIGN SUCH A WAIVER BUT I WILL RECONNECT THE FAULTY SWITCH AND IN CASE OF FIRE I WILL TAKE A LEGAL ACTION AGAINST FORD FOR DAMAGES. JUST ABOUT A YEAR AGO, FORD CORP ORDERED A RECALL #05S28 -SPEED CONTROL SYSTEM MODIFICATION FOR MY 2000 FORD EXPLORER. AFTER REPEATED INQUIRES TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER, THE "PART" HAS STILL NOT ARRIVED. I CALLED FORD HEADQUARTERS TODAY, AND THEY SAID PERHAPS IN JUNE. WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP? *TR
IN EARLY SEPTEMBER, MY TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP WHILE ON A TRIP WITH MY FAMILY. THE MILEAGE AT THE TIME WAS UNDER 85,000 MILES. IT COST ME OVER $1500 TO HAVE A REBUILT TRANSMISSION INSTALLED. APPARENTLY, OTHER FORD EXPLORER XLT OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. IN ADDITION, SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, BOTH WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY'S HAVE GONE BAD TO THE TUNE OF OVER $800. THE MILEAGE IS STILL UNDER 90,000. I HAD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN AGAIN TODAY AND FOUND OUT THAT A BALL JOINT HAS GONE BAD NEAR THE WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY AND IT'S GOING TO COST AROUND $250 TO REPLACE THAT. IT'S UNFATHOMABLE THAT FORD WOULD BE ALLOWED TO PUT OUT SUCH A SHODDY VEHICLE THAT FALLS APART ONCE YOU GET OVER 80,000 MILES USAGE. *TR
FORD EXPLORER RECALL 05S28 HAS NOT BEEN COMPLETED ON MY VEHICLE IN A TIMELY MANNER. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP ON 9/6/2007 AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD CALL BACK WHEN THE SERVICE PARTS WERE AVAILABLE TO PERFORM SERVICE. I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED A CALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPLORER. HE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL. IN AN ATTEMPT TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT HE WAS UNABLE TO FIND A DEALER WITHIN A 50 MILE RADIUS THAT HAS THE PARTS AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT DENIED TO HAVE THE SWITCH DEACTIVATE DUE TO HIS DISABILITY. HE IS AWARE OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED AND WOULD NEED TO HAVE THE COMPLETE REPAIR PERFORMED VS THE INTERIM REPAIR. THE NERVES IN HIS LEGS HAVE FAILED AND HE CANNOT OPERATE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL AND HAS CONFIRMED THIS WITH THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY RECEIVED TEN PARTS AND DON'T KNOW HOW SOON THEY WILL RECEIVE ADDITIONAL PARTS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,000. THE NOTICE INDICATED THAT THE OWNER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HAVING THE REPAIR PERFORMED IN A TIMELY MANNER. THERE ARE NO VEHICLE FAILURES AT THIS TIME.
2000 FORD EXPLORER PROBLEMS WITH DOOR LOCKING MECHANISM. CUSTOMER STATES THAT IT BEGAN WITH THE REAR DOORS NOT UNLOCKING, HATCH DOOR WILL NOW NOT UNLOCK. CUSTOMER THINKS DOORS WILL STOP OPENING. *KB THE CONSUMER HAS TRIED OILING THE MECHANISMS, BUT THAT STILL DIDN'T WORK. *JB UPDATED 10/03/07.*JB
WHILE DRIVING THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALER THE SAME DAY AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE SIDE AIRBAG PROBLEM. THE TESTING CODE WAS 1998. THEY CHARGED ME $903.45 TO FIX IT ON AUGUST 30, 2007. ON AUGUST 23, 2008 THE AIRBAG LIGHT STARTED FLASHING WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I CALLED THE FORD DEALER AND TOOK IT RIGHT IN. WAS TOLD THE PART THEY REPLACED HAD GONE BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. OF COURSE THEY HAD TO ORDER THE PART AND THAT TOOK THREE DAYS. I WAS TOLD THAT WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON THE AIRBAGS DON?T WORK. THIS HAPPENED SIX DAYS BEFORE THE ONE YEAR WARRANTY RAN OUT AND THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY BEEN 4,100 MILES SINCE THE PART WAS REPLACED. THE PART WAS REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME ON AUGUST 27, 2008 UNDER THE ONE YEAR WARRANT PERIOD. THE WORK WAS PERFORMED SO POORLY THAT I HAVE NO FAITH THE AIRBAGS WILL WORK IF I EVER NEED THEM. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE FORD DEALER AND SHOWED THEM THAT THE WIRING FOR THE SIDE AIRBAG WAS POKING OUT THE BACK OF THE SEAT AND THE AIR BAG REALLY WASN'T ON THE SIDE IT WAS MORE OF A BACKSEAT AIRBAG NOW. NEEDLESS TO SAY I HAVE TO LEAVE IT WITH THE DEALER AGAIN TO FIX IT. I HAVE SEEN THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE AIRBAGS AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHEN FORD IS GOING TO STEP UP AND ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM. *TR

SINCE THAT TIME, THE CONTACT HAS CALLED THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND THEY CONTINUE TO STATE THAT THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY INFORMATION REGARDING THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPLORER. EVER SINCE AUGUST OF 2007, THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE SWITCHING OUT OF GEAR INTERMITTENTLY. THE BRAKES, ROTORS, ALTERNATOR, MOTOR MOUNT, PULLEY ASSEMBLY, ALL THE BELTS, AND TIRES WERE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS. ON MAY 1, 2009, WHILE DRIVING OUT OF A SUBWAY STATION AT 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND SWITCHED INTO REVERSE AND THE CONTACT ALMOST STRUCK A PEDESTRIAN. AN OFFICER WITNESSED THE FAILURE AND ADVISED HIM TO CALL NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,200 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,540.
MY FIRST CAR WAS A 2000 FORD EXPLORER AND I COULD NOT BE MORE DISAPPOINTED WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THIS VEHICLE. ALTHOUGH I HAVE HAD THE CAR NOW FOR A FEW YEARS, IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THERE HAVE BEEN SOME MINOR ISSUES WITH THE CAR THAT ARE EXPECTED WITH NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. HOWEVER AT ONLY ABOUT 60,000 MILES I STARTED HAVING VERY BAD TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THE O/D LIGHT FLASHES NEARLY EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR AND THE TRANSMISSION (AUTOMATIC) SKIPS EVERY TIME AFTER FIRST GEAR. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I REALIZED THAT THIS IS NOT A RANDOM OCCURRENCE. THERE ARE NUMEROUS FORD EXPLORER OWNERS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM AND FORD HAS YET TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND HELP FIX THIS PROBLEM. I INITIALLY THOUGHT THAT IT WAS JUST MY CAR POSSIBLY GETTING OLD, HOWEVER AFTER SPENDING HOURS RESEARCHING MY PROBLEM I QUICKLY REALIZED THAT THIS IS NOT AN AGE ISSUE. I ALSO DO NOT HAVE THAT MANY MILES ON MY CAR. UNFORTUNATELY I DO NOT HAVE THE $2000+ TO COMPLETELY REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION WHICH APPARENTLY SEEMS TO BE MY ONLY OPTION. IT HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE EVERY TIME I TURN IT ON AND START DRIVING THESE PROBLEMS OCCUR. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON LONG ISLAND EXPRESSWAY TO WORK, I HEARD A LOUD BANG. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SEE WHY THE PASSENGER SIDE HAD LEAN DOWN. THEIR WAS NO FLAT TIRE. I DROVE THE CAR TO RIVERDALE AUTO SERVICE LLC IN THE BRONX, LOCATED ON WEST 230 TH ST. AN HOUR LATER THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY FRAME HAD SPLIT. I DID NOT BELIEVE THEM, I CALLED MY REGULAR MECHANIC, AND HE CONTACTED THEM TO GET CONFORMATION. HE INFORMED ME TO HAVE A FLAT BED TRUCK BRING THE CAR TO VILLAGE FORD OF PINE BUSH. I CONTACTED FORD FOR ANY RECALLS ON FRAMES SPLITTING. I WAS INFORMED BY E-MAIL AND PERSONAL TELEPHONE CALL THAT THIS IS VERY UNHEARD OF AND I SHOULD BRING THE CAR TO A FORD DEALER FOR SERVICE. IT IS NOW THREE WEEKS AND I STILL DO NOT HAVE MY CAR OR THE REASON WHY THE FRAME SPLIT UNDER NORMAL DRIVING. THE CONSUMER STATED THE CROSS BAR SUPPORTS THE TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE AND KEEPS THE FRONT END IN BALANCE. WHEN CRACKED RIGHT SIDE WENT DOWN AS IF CONSUMER HAD A FLAT TIRE. UPDATED 09/25/07 *TR

IT'S NOW OCTOBER 4, 2007 AND I CALLED TO CHECK ON THE STATUS OF PARTS AND THE DEALERSHIP SAYS MID NOVEMBER TO EARLY DECEMBER. MY QUESTION IS THIS, IF MY CAR CATCHES ON FIRE BECAUSE THEY NEVER GET PARTS, WILL FORD REPLACE MY VEHICLE AT THEIR COST? *JB

DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THEY COULD NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR FUTURE ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO COOLANT IN ENGINE. I INVESTIGATED, AND FOUND SECRET WARRANTY SERVICE BULLETIN , NETS NUMBER 616816. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO RECOVER COST OF REPAIR UNDER SB, DEALER REFUSED, CLAIMING THAT SB EXTENSION WAS OVER , ENDED DECEMBER 2006. THIS VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN THE LIMITED MILEAGE UNDER THE WARRANTY, AND OBVIOUS DRIVING RATES LESS THAN EXPECTED UNDER THE WARRANTY , ORIGINAL AND SECRET EXTENSION.. CUSTOMERS HAVE NOT BEEN MADE AWARE OF THIS SECRET WARRANTY EXTENSION. REPORTED SAME ISSUE TO THE NHTSA ON FEB 1, 2005...ON JANUARY 12, 2007, MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING OUR EXPLORER TO WORK. HE ACCIDENTALLY BUMPED THE CRUISE CONTROL AND THE CAR BEGAN ACCELERATING RAPIDLY. HE WAS ABLE TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT INCIDENT AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF, BUT HE WAS UNABLE TO START IT UP AGAIN, THE BATTERY WAS DRAINED. A FRIEND OF OURS CAME AND GAVE HIM A JUMP START, THE CAR TURNED ON BUT THE ENGINE WAS REVVING AND HE COULDN'T GET IT TO STOP. THEY CAR WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THEY FOUND THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS STUCK INTERNALLY WHICH WAS CAUSING THE CRUISE CONTROL TO STICK AND MADE THE CAR ACCELERATE ON IT'S OWN. THEY DISCONNECTED THE CABLE FROM THE THROTTLE BODY TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. I CONTACTED FORD AND SPOKE TO A REP NAMED FRANKIE AND FILED YET ANOTHER COMPLAINT, BUT THEY DON'T WANT TO HELP US OUT AT ALL. THEY WANT US TO TAKE THE CAR TO A DEALER AND PAY FOR THEM TO INSPECT THE CAR. *NM
WE TOOK OUR 2000 FORD EXPLORER INTO SANTA MARGARITA FORD FOR MAINTENANCE. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SUBJECT TO RECALL 03S04, REPLACEMENT OF A SEAT BOLT. THE DEALER REQUESTED AUTHORIZATION FROM FORD TO DO THE REPAIRS. FORD SAID THAT THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR REPAIRS. THE DEALER SAID THAT THERE WAS APPARENTLY SOMEE DAMAGE TO THE DRIVER'S SEAT. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ALL THEY OFFERED WAS TO PAY $100. I WAS UNABLE TO SPEAK WITH ANY INDIVIDUAL WHO MADE THE DECISION TO NOT COMPLETELY PAY FOR THE NEEDED REPAIRS. $100 IS UNACCEPTABLE; I EXPECT FORD TO PAY FOR ANY AND ALL REPAIRS. *JB
