TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTING TO ENTER HIS VEHICLE HE NOTICED A PUDDLE OF COOLANT UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE RADIATOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 60,000.
2006 FORD EXPLORER WITH 62,000 MILES I NOTICED THAT THE RADIATOR IS LEAKING CALLED FORD DEALER FOR PARTS AND THE PRICE OF THE RADIATOR IS $500.00 ALL SO FOUND OUT THAT A NUMBER OF OTHER PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME CONCERN AND THAT THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF RADIATORS AVAILABLE. *TR
WE BOUGHT A 2006 FORD EXPLORER NEW IN 2006. AFTER THREE YEARS AND 50,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SHIFTING VERY HARD FROM PARK TO REVERSE TO DRIVE. NOW, AT 61,000 MILES, THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT RESPONDING WHEN PRESSING THE THROTTLE WHILE CAR IS ALREADY IN MOTION. IF YOU LET YOUR FOOT OFF OF THE THROTTLE AND THEN PRESS THE THROTTLE AGAIN THE ENGINE JUST REVS UP FOR SEVERAL SECONDS BEFORE SHIFTING INTO GEAR. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN MERGING ON OR OFF THE INTERSTATE. FORD DEALERSHIP SAYS IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION. *TR
VEHICLE SHIFTS HARD AND JERKS WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO REVERSE/DRIVE TO DRIVE. MULTIPLE SITES ON THE INTERNET REVEAL THE SAME OR SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM HUNDREDS OF OWNERS DRIVING THE 2006 FORD EXPLORER. DEALER REQUESTED FORD ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR OF MY EXPLORER AND AS IN MANY OTHER CASES, FORD HAS REFUSED. THIS MODEL YEAR EXPLORER OBVIOUSLY HAS MULTIPLE MANUFACTURING DEFECTS. THESE DEFECTS NEED TO BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED AT FORD'S EXPENSE. *TR
2006 FORD EXPLORER---EDDIE BAUER EDITION, 4.0L V6 WITH 42,000 MILES ON IT. RADIATOR "SPLIT AT THE SEAMS" CAUSING IT TO LEAK. TAKEN TO FORD DEALERSHIP....NO RECALL, NO TSB ON THIS PROBLEM...NO OFFERS FROM FORD TO HELP WITH THE REPAIR COST---ESTIMATED BY THEM TO BE $1000. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. THE CONTACT RECEIVED AN UNKNOWN SAFETY RECALL LETTER FROM THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE SHIFT LEVER CIRCUIT BOARD. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE SHIFT LEVER CIRCUIT BOARD REPLACED BUT THE REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER A MONTH LATER BUT THE DEALER DID NOT FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE SHIFTER. THE DEALER SUGGESTED TO THE CONTACT TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BEFORE SHIFTING THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE SHIFTER AND THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT IT WAS UP TO THE DEALER WHETHER THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL A SECOND TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
2006 FORD EXPLORER DIES WHILE DRIVING. LOOSES ALL POWER, SIMPLY GOES DEAD ELECTRICALLY AND MECHANICALLY WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. HAD TO FIGHT MANUAL STEERING AND BRAKING TO PULL OVER. TURNED KEY OFF AND BACK ON AND IT RESTARTED LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. *TR

I HAD JUST LEFT THE GYM WHEN MY 2006 EXPLORER ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. DURING ACCELERATION WHILE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN FROM A STOP LIGHT, THE CAR STOPPED ABRUPTLY AS IF I WERE SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES. I WAS NOT APPLYING THE BRAKES AT ALL, I WAS ACTUALLY TRYING TO ACCELERATE. THE BRAKES WERE STOPPING THE VEHICLE RAPIDLY WITHOUT MY INPUT. I WAS VERY CLOSE TO BEING REAR ENDED. I DECIDED TO PULL THE CAR TO A SAFE SPOT AND WHILE I WAS TRYING TO TURN INTO A PARKING LOT, THE CAR DECIDED TO STOP ITSELF, ALMOST GETTING ME REAR ENDED AGAIN. I HAD THE EXPLORER TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALER WHERE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED AT THE TUNE OF $423.78. THE ABS TONE RING HAD CRACKED, CAUSING THE SYSTEM TO STOP THE CAR. I STILL HAVE THE OLD BROKEN TONE RING. I AM ALMOST NERVOUS DRIVING THE THING AT HIGHER SPEEDS FOR FEAR OF WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN IF IT BRAKES AGAIN. WOULD THE SUV ROLL OR CAUSE A BAD ACCIDENT IF THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED SO VIOLENTLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITHOUT ANY DRIVER INPUT? *TR
I BELIEVE THE FORD EXPLORER 2006 RADIATORS NEED TO BE RECALLED! FIRST OF ALL, LET ME JUST SAY THAT ON CARCOMPLAINTS.COM THERE ARE 47 COMPLAINTS ABOUT RADIATOR LEAKS AND HAVING TO REPLACE RADIATORS. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IF IT OVERHEATS...IT COULD LEAVE SOMEONE STRANDED ON SIDE THE HIGHWAY, OR EVEN EXPLODE OR CATCH ON FIRE! OK, NOW TO ME...I BOUGHT A 2006 FORD EXPLORER IN JANUARY OF 2006. IN MARCH OF 2008, I WAS TOLD THAT MY RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I COULDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY A VEHICLE WITH 40,000 MILES ON IT, WHICH GET SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE CHECKS REGULARLY WITH A MECHANIC COULD HAVE SUCH A PROBLEM. WELL, NEEDLESS TO SAY...I GOT IT REPAIRED OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE MY 36,000 MILE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. IT WAS VERY COSTLY. WELL,I CONTINUED TO GET MY VEHICLE MAINTENANCE AS SCHEDULED. WELL, JUST A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO OR LESS THAN 23 MONTHS(LESS THAN 2 YEARS) LATER, I EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM. ANOTHER RADIATOR LEAK! I HARDLY EVEN GO ANY WHERE! THE NEW RADIATOR WAS YET AGAIN ANOTHER FORD RADIATOR! I COULD HAVE BEEN LEFT ON SIDE THE ROAD OR HAD SOME SORT OF EXPLOSION! I BELIEVE THERE ARE DEFECTS IN THESE RADIATORS AND I BELIEVE THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS ISSUING OUT FAULTY EQUIPMENT. I BELIEVE THAT WE, THE CONSUMER, OR SUFFERING THE CONSEQUENCES DUE TO THEIR NEED TO STAY AFLOAT. BOUGHT 2006 EXPLORER NEW. AROUND 14,000 MILES ENGINE PROBLEMS STARTED, HAVE TAKEN CAR IN TO FORD DEALER WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED ABOUT 7 TIMES FOR BASICALLY SAME PROBLEM ~ ENGINE LIGHT / CAR ENGINE LUNGING . MECHANICS DID DIFFERENT THINGS; REPLACED ONE DEFECTED PART WHILE UNDER WARRANTY, RESET COMPUTER, BUT PROBLEM ALWAYS CAME BACK. SOMETIMES HAPPENING BEFORE I MADE IT HOME. SOME TIMES MONTHS LATER. THIS VEHICLE BEGAN HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AT APPROXIMATELY 54000 MILES. I HAD THE TRANSMISSION FIXED IN 2010. NOW, IN DECEMBER 2013 WITH 113500 MILES, THIS VEHICLE BEGAN HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AGAIN AND REQUIRED COMPLETE REPLACEMENT. *TR
SPARK PLUG SEPARATES AND REMAINS IN THE ENGINE BLOCK WHEN ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE THEM. THREE OF EIGHT WAS CHANGING SPARK PLUGS DUE TO THE COMPUTER MAKING THE TRANSMISSION BUCK AND SLIP WHEN DRIVING. *TR

FIRST THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE THERMOSTAT WAS REPLACED WITHIN A WEEK THE RADIATOR WAS LEAKING. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO OVERHEAT AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WERE REPLACING SEVERAL RADIATORS ON THIS VEHICLE DUE TO A WEAK SPOT IN THE RADIATOR. FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE AN ISSUE WITHOUT YOU CONFIRMING IT FIRST. GETTING STRANDED ON THE HIGHWAY WITH CHILDREN IS NOT PLEASANT, WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR VEHICLE SERVICED REGULARLY. *TR
AT 45,000 MY RADIATOR FAILED AND FORD NEEDED TO REPLACE IT. I DO NOT TAKE THE CAR OFF ROAD, AND KEEP ALL REQUIRED MAINTENANCE. THIS IS VERY EARLY FOR A FAILURE, AND A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS VEHICLE. *TR
RADIATOR STARTED LEAKING FOR NO REASON IN 2006 FORD EXPLORER HAVE BEEN TOLD BY REPAIR SHOP AND OTHER OWNERS THAT THIS IS A COMMON THING THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THAT BECAUSE THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW TO EXPECT IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN IN A YEAR I DO NOT HAVE 600. DOLLARS TO PUT OUT EVERY YEAR ON A VEHICLE THAT IS NOT PAID FOR SHOULD I LET IT GO BACK. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NORMAL. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THEY WOULD PASS THE INFORMATION ON. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,101 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.
OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS A 2006 FORD EXPLORER THAT IS GOING TO HAVE ITS 3RD RADIATOR PUT IN THE VEHICLE. *TR
SUNSHINE KIDS RADIAN 80SL CONVERTIBLE CAR SEAT. WHEN INSTALLED REAR-FACING WITH LATCH, THE ADJUSTER MECHANISM ENDS UP ON THE EDGE OF THE BELT PATH, PREVENTING THE BELT FROM STAYING TIGHT, EVEN WITHOUT ANY INTERFERENCE. IT CAN CAUSE A PERSON TO THINK THAT THE SEAT IS TIGHTLY INSTALLED WHEN IT IS NOT. THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO INSTALL WITH THE SEAT BELT. NOTICED A 6 INCH PUDDLE UNDER MY 2006 EDDIE BAUER. HAD IT TESTED AND THE TUBES AT THE BOTTOM WERE LEAKING. BOUGHT A REPLACEMENT RADIATOR FOR 220.00. *TR
TRANSMISSION DELAYS THEN LUNGES HARD AFTER PLACED INTO REVERSE. IF A DRIVER APPLIES GAS DURING THIS PERIOD, REVERSE WILL ENGAGE UNDER SUFFICIENT POWER AND LUNGE THE VEHICLE 5 TO 10 FEET BEFORE IT CAN BE CONTROLLED. DUE TO THE NUMBER OF OTHER 2006 EXPLORERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, WE FELT A SAFETY COMPLAINT WAS IN ORDER. THIS VEHICLE HAD 40,000 MILES WHEN IT STARTED 3 YEARS AGO. ITS SPORADIC, SOMETIMES NO PROBLEM, SOMETIMES ANNOYING, SOMETIMES IT IS SCARY. AT ITS WORSE, SHIFTING INTO REVERSE IS DELAYED 2 TO 5 SECONDS BEFORE A VERY HARSH ENGAGEMENT. THE SPEED THE LEVER DOES NOT SEEM TO IMPACT THIS CONDITION. IT OCCURS ABOUT 30% OF THE TIME WHEN REGARDLESS IF THE ENGINE IS COLD OR HOT. THIS HARSH ENGAGEMENT WILL SPIN THE WHEELS AND LET OUT A LOUD SQUAWK IF ON PAVEMENT. THIS ENGAGEMENT IS VERY HARD AND FEELS LIKE A MINOR COLLISION. WITH EXPERIENCE, WE HAVE LEARNED TO HOLD THE BRAKES HARD UNTIL IT ENGAGES TO AVOID THE TIRE SPIN AND KEEPING THE VEHICLE FROM JUMPING. LAST WEEK WE GAVE EVERYONE A SCARE WHEN IT DIDN'T ENGAGE UNTIL AFTER WE LET UP ON THE BRAKES; BY THAT TIME A MOTHER AND TWO CHILDREN HAD WALKED BEHIND THE VEHICLE. THE WHEELS SPUN AND THE VEHICLE JUMPED ABOUT A FOOT TOWARDS THEM EVEN WITH SOME PRESSURE STILL ON THE BRAKES. THIS PROBLEM ALSO OCCURS GOING UP THRU THE GEARS WE WILL ALSO EXPERIENCE A HARD SHIFT, AS THOUGH SOMEONE HIT THE VEHICLE WITH SLEDGE HAMMER. OF ALL THE SHIFTS, THIS HAPPENS ABOUT 20% OF THE TIME NOW. COLD OR HOT IT DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A FACTOR. *TR
FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT FUEL TANK FILLING ISSUES SINCE THEY ISSUED AN INTERNAL TSB IN 2007. PROBLEM CAUSES FUEL TANK TO FILL WITH PRESSURE, AND NOT ACCEPT FUEL. AS A RESULT, FUEL IS SPRAYED ALL OVER VEHICLE AND THE PERSON FUELING VEHICLE. WE HAD VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIRS NUMEROUS TIMES, AND STILL HAVING FUEL TANK ISSUES. THERE ARE "UNCOUNTABLE" NUMBERS OF FORD EXPLORER OWNERS THAT I HAVE FOUND ON THE INTERNET, THAT HAVE THIS PROBLEM, AND THEY DO NOT KNOW THAT FORD KNOWS THE REASON FOR THIS FAILURE. FORD SHOULD HAVE ISSUES A RECALL NOTICE TO PROTECT DANGER OF FUEL SPRAY. *TR
IN LATE DECEMBER 2009 I NOTICED LIQUID POOLING ON MY DRIVEWAY FROM MY 2006 FORD EXPLORER SO I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THE RADIATOR WAS CRACKED AND THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I HAD AN AFTER-MARKET RADIATOR INSTALLED DUE TO THE RIDICULOUS PRICE OF THE RADIATOR FROM FORD. ON FEBRUARY 19, 2010, I AGAIN NOTICED FLUID POOLING ON MY DRIVEWAY AND IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE EXPLORER BACK TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THE O-RING LEADING INTO THE RADIATOR HAD "FAILED" AND IT WAS LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE DEALERSHIP SAID YET ANOTHER RADIATOR WOULD HAVE TO BE INSTALLED IF THEY COULD NOT ORDER THE O-RINGS INDIVIDUALLY. I WAS AGAIN TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE O-RING WAS REPLACED ON FEBRUARY 24, 2010 AND I WAS SPARED THE EXTRA EXPENSE OF ANOTHER RADIATOR. THE VEHICLE HAS 55,000 MILES AND ALL REGULAR MAINTENANCE IS PERFORMED ON TIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING A TIRE BLEW-OUT. WHEN CHANGING THE TIRE, THE JACK FAILED. A TECHNICIAN FROM THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY ARE GOING TO SELL HIM ANOTHER JACK. HE WAS THEN ADVISED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON FAILURE FOR HIS MODEL TYPE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83137.
LAST NIGHT THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE BUT WOULD KEEP KICKING OUT OF GEAR... I WOULD PUSH THE GAS, THE ENGINE WOULD REV, BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T GO ANYWHERE. I EVEN ROLLED BACKWARDS DOWN A HILL ON A HIGHWAY AND ALMOST HIT ANOTHER CAR! I HAD TO SHUT THE CAR OFF, AND RESTART IT IN ORDER TO GET IT TO BACK IN GEAR. THIS HAPPENED 10-15 TIMES IN A 20 MINUTE DRIVE! I WAS NERVOUS TO EVEN DRIVE IT HOME! IT IS AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP NOW... I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED... WILL NEVER BUY AN AMERICAN CAR AGAIN! IT IS COMPLETELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE! *TR
MY 2006 FORD EXPLORER FREQUENTLY LURCHES/LUNGES WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND STARTING UP FROM A STOP. IT FEELS LIKE THE CAR IS BEING REAR-ENDED. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO BE REPAIRED AND IT SEEMED TO WORK OK FOR A SHORT TIME, BUT IT HAS STARTED DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. IT MAKES ME WONDER IF IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE HE WAS ADVISED THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON HIS VEHICLE AND REPAIRS WOULD BE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE CONTACT FELT THIS COULD POTENTIALLY RISK HIS SAFETY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000 AND THE CURRENT WAS 53,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID AND RADIATOR COOLANT. AND AS A RESULT, THE RADIATOR FAILED. A PRIVATE MECHANIC MADE THREE ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR THE FAILURE BY REPLACING THE RADIATOR BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE DEALER DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AS HE ATTEMPTED TO START HIS VEHICLE WITH THE GEAR SHIFT IN PARK, HE WAS UNSUCCESSFUL; HOWEVER, HE WAS ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS A SHORTAGE IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THEY COULD REPAIR THE VEHICLE FOR $700. 2006 FORD EXPLORER HARD OR SLOW TRANSMISSION SHIFTING. *TR
WE PURCHASED OUR 2006 EXPLORER USED WITH 61,000 IN SUMMER 2009. THE DEALERSHIP DID A COMPLETE INSPECTION AND REPLACED EVERYTHING WE FOUND AS DEFECTIVE OR AS A RECALLED ITEM. THE COOLANT SYSTEM WASN'T ONE OF THESE ISSUES. DROVE VEHICLE ALL SUMMER AND INTO THE FALL WITHOUT ISSUE. BY LATE FALL OF 2009 VEHICLE HAD ANTI-FREEZE LEAK, JUST AFTER THE FIRST FROST IN NE. LOCAL AUTO SERVICE PROVIDOR REPLACED RADIATOR TWICE IN ONE MONTH WITH NAPA PARTS WITHOUT REMEDY AND THEN EVENTUALLY THEY HAD TO REPLACE WITH AN AUTHORIZED FORD RADIATOR TO GET IT NOT TO FAIL. ALSO REPLACED THE WATER PUMP, ALL HOSES, PULLIES, AND FLUID TO MAKE SURE THERE WERE NO OTHER ISSUES. STILL LEAKED BUT MINOR AND FINALLY WAS CORRECTED IN SPRING OF 2010. BY LATE FALL 2010, AGAIN AFTER THE FIRST FROST THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING ANTI-FREEZE AGAIN. TOOK IT TO FORD DEALERSHIP THIS TIME WHERE THEY WENT THROUGH THE ENTIRE COOLING SYSTEM AND REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT AND UPPER INTAKE HOUSING THEY SAID WAS LEAKING. THEY ALSO FLUSHED THE ENTIRE SYSTEM AGAIN AND ADDED WHAT THEY DEEMED WAS THE CORRECT ANTIFREEZE FOR THE VEHICLE ASSURING THAT THIS WOULD STOP THE PROBLEM. VEHICLE STILL LEAKED AND WE HAD TO PERIODICALLY TIGHTEN THE HOSE CLAMPS BUT BY SPRING OF 2011 THE LEAK AGAIN STOPPED. JUST BROUGHT VEHICLE BACK TO FORD DEALERSHIP FALL 2011, AGAIN AFTER THE FIRST FROST. WAS TOLD THE NOW 2 YEAR OLD FORD RADIATOR WAS FAILING AT THE JOINTS BETWEEN ALUMINUM AND PLASTIC. THIS WAS THE SAME FAILURE AS ORIGINALLY NOTED IN FALL OF 2009. THERE APPEARS TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH 2006 EXPLORER RADIATORS WITH OVER 50K MILES. ALONG WITH ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES, THIS CONDITION AFFECTS THE TRANSMISSION AND THE SAFETY OF THE OCCUPANTS IF THE ENGIN RUNS OUT OF COOLANT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RADIATOR AND WATER PUMP WERE REPLACED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OVER HEATING BUT THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT CONSULTED WITH HIS PERSONAL MECHANIC AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE HEAD GASKET WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR COSTS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.
2006 FORD EXPLORER 4.0 LITER. RADIATOR STARTED LEAKING AT 42,000 MILES AND JUST SHORT OF 4 YEARS OLD. LEAKING FROM THE LOWER TANK SEAL. MUST BE REPLACED, CAN'T BE REPAIRED. FORD WILL NOT TAKE CARE OF THIS KNOWN DEFECT. THIS FAILURE ISN'T DUE TO CORROSION, IT IS AN ENGINEERING DEFECT. MANY EXPLORER OWNERS COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS KNOWN DEFECT AND CAN ONLY GET HELP IF THEY ARE FORTUNATE TO STILL BE WITHIN THE 36K MILE 3 YEAR WARRANTY. *TR

I OWN A 2006 FORD EXPLORER XLT WITH A 4.0 V6. RECENTLY I WAS FILLING UP WITH GAS AND IT BEGAN CLICKING OFF EVERY 1/2 GALLON. I EVENTUALLY FILLED UP AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES. I TRIED AGAIN THE NEXT DAY, THINKING IT WAS THE PUMP, SAME PROBLEM. ENDED UP TAKING APART THE WHOLE FUEL LINE SYSTEM LOOKING FOR A CLOG. NO SUCH LUCK. FINALLY DECIDED IT MUST BE THE EVAP/CHARCOAL CANISTER. THERE IS A TSB ON THIS ISSUE, SO FORD OBVIOUSLY KNOWS ABOUT IT. BUT I HAD TO WAIT FOR THE PART TO COME IN, AND HAD NO OTHER VEHICLE TO DRIVE, SO I JUST CONTINUED FILLING UP FOR 30 MINUTES JUST TO GET A FULL TANK. THE WORST PART WAS THAT YOU COULD HEAR THE BUBBLING DOWN THE LINE, SINCE THE CHARCOAL CANISTER WOULD NOT PROPERLY RELEASE PRESSURE FROM THE TANK. SOMETIMES THE GAS WOULD EVEN COME BACK OUT THE FILL HOLE AND SPRAY ME WITH GAS (A REAL SAFETY ISSUE). I ENDED UP GETTING THE PART VERY CHEAP OFF OF AN JUNKED EXPLORER. BUT THE PART FROM A DEALER WAS OVER $400. DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE WHICH NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THANK YOU. *TR
