THE PROBLEM IS WITH A 2006 FORD EXPLORER. EVERYTIME I START THE CAR OR GET READY TO PULL OUT THE MOTOR REVS UP. THANKFULLY I HAVE HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE OR ELSE I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT BECAUSE MY CAR WOULD HAVE WENT OUT INTO TRAFFIC. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS ON A DAILY BASIS. SO FAR I HAVE NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT BUT IF EVER I DO NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE THERE IS A GREAT CHANCE THERE WILL BE. THIS IS ONLY ONE OF THE PROBLEMS I AM FACING WITH MY EXPLORER. *TR
2006 FORD EXPLORER AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION THAT SLIPS AND CAUSES A JOLT WHEN IT DOWNSHIFTS, FEELS LIKE ONE IS BEING REAR ENDED. ADDITIONALLY THERE IS A WEIRD SOUND AS THIS HAPPENS. FORD HAS UNSUCCESSFULLY TRIED TO REPROGRAM THE CAR. TOOK THE CAR BACK FOR THE FORD MECHANIC TO LOOK AT AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NOTHING HE CAN DO. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED THE AIR CONDITIONER HAS MALFUNCTIONED. THE GEAR SHIFT ALSO MOVED OUT OF PARK OWN ITS OWN. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH HER VIN FOR THE GEAR SHIFT AND MADE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS. WHENEVER THE VEHICLE SHIFTS GEARS ON ITS OWN IT WOULD LUNGE FORWARD AND A METAL ODOR WAS WITHIN THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,730.
THE SUV JOLTS WHEN SHIFTING GEARS, RPMS REV AND IS SLOW TO CHANGE INTO GEAR. OCCASIONAL LOUD CLUNCKING NOISES, ALSO LOUD NOISE WHEN ACCELERATING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE MANUFACTURER TO HAVE RECALL; NUMBER 09D11 (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION; OPERATION) REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE REMEDY REPAIR WAS INSUFFICIENT AND FAILED TO ADDRESS THE GEAR SHIFTER SAFETY DEFECT. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED AN AUTHORIZED DEALER REGARDING THE MALFUNCTION AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 54,877.
THE GEAR SHIFT LIGHT ON MY 2006 FORD EXPLORER HAS BURNED OUT. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF MY DEALER SAID I HAVE TO BUY AN ENTIRE SHIFT UNIT AND WAS TOO EMBARRASSED TO EVEN CHECK THE PRICE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A POTENTIAL HAZARD SINCE PEOPLE WON'T REPLACE THE ENTIRE UNIT DUE TO COST AND WILL PLACE THE CAR IN THE WRONG GEAR AT NIGHT LEADING TO INJURY. DON'T KNOW HOW MANY OTHERS HAVE THIS PROBLEM, BUT FOUND A FEW ON LINE. *TR
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2006 FORD LIMITED EDITION EXPLORER. WITHIN 24 HOURS OF PURCHASE I NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD "LUNGE" FORWARD WHILE ATTEMPTING TO BRING THE SUV TO A COMPLETE STOP. IT FEELS AS IF YOU WERE JUST REAR-ENDED! I PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND HAVE BEEN TOLD TO BRING THE CAR TO SERVICE. RECENT RESEARCH HAS LEAD ME TO BELIEVE THAT THIS SUV'S MODEL YEAR HAS THIS SAME DISTURBING TREND AMONG VEHICLE ACROSS THE USA. A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION NEEDS TO TAKE PLACE AND A RECALL IS MY RECOMMENDATION. CONSUMERS SHOULD NOT SUFFER FOR AN OBVIOUS FLAW ON THE BEHALF OF A MAJOR MANUFACTURER. *TR
2006 FORD EXPLORER V-8. PURCHASED BRAND NEW. ISSUE IS WHEN I COME TO A GRADUAL STOP. VEHICLE LUNGES FORWARD AT END OF STOPPING AND ALMOST FEELS LIKE YOU ARE REAR-ENDED. BROUGHT BACK TO FORD, CHARGED $111.00 FOR THEM TO RE-SET THE COMPUTER (OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT). I BELIEVE WE COULD HAVE ACCOMPLISHED THE SAME THING BY DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY AND RECONNECTING IT. IN ANY EVENT, I CAN ALREADY TELL THE CAR IS STILL DOING IT JUST ON THE BRIEF RIDE HOME (JUST PICKED UP THE VEHICLE YESTERDAY). THEY ARE SAYING IT'S PART OF THE "SMART DRIVER" FEATURE THE VEHICLE HAS THAT UNDERSTANDS DRIVING PATTERNS FROM MULTIPLE DRIVERS. WHAT KIND OF FEATURE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD AT A STOP? NO DRIVER DOES THIS! I WANT THIS CORRECTED ONCE AND FOR ALL. DOES FORD JUST NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS? DOES FORD NOT WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS IS A REAL FLAW? 2006 FORD EXPLORER AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS A JOLT WHEN IT DOWNSHIFT AT STOPPING. IT FEELS LIKE ONE IS BEING REAR ENDED. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE TRANSMISSIONS. FORD TRIED TO REPROGRAM THE CAR, BUT IT DOESN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. PROBLEM OCCURS IN ABOUT 1 OUT OF 10 STOPS. THE DISTRACTION IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS ONE STOPS TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHY THIS HAPPENED. WHILE TRYING TO TURN ON THE AIR CONDITIONING, A CLICKING CAN BE HEARD AND THE AIR FLOW DOES NOT CHANGE OVER. THEN DURING COOLER DAYS THE HEAT IS INOPERATIVE, (IT STAYS ON COLD AIR) THE CLICKING IS PERSISTENT. *TR
WHEN COMING TO A STOP, THE CAR FEELS LIKE I HAVE SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES OR SOMEONE HAS REAR-ENDED ME. IT HAPPENS ABOUT EVERY MILE OR SO. DEALER SAYS THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT, THE BRAKES ARE FINE. *TR
WHEN COMING TO A STOP, TRANSMISSION JERKS AND IT FEELS LIKE YOU ARE GETTING REAR-ENDED. LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ON VARIOUS WEBSITES. STARTED RIGHT AFTER CAR WAS BOUGHT, FORD SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG, SO WE HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH IT... BUT IT IS GETTING WORSE, AND I'M AFRAID I WILL GET STUCK WITH A COSTLY REPAIR. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 FORD EXPLORER XLT WITH THE 4.0 V6. I HAVE THE FAMOUS RADIATOR PROBLEM THAT IT SEEMS 90% OF 2006 OWNERS HAVE. FORD HAS ISSUED A TSB, BUT NO RECALL. I KNOW PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN THROUGH RADIATORS EVERY 5,000 MILES. MINE DIDN'T FAIL UNTIL ABOUT 75000 MILES, BUT IT STILL FAILED, SPEWING ANTIFREEZE ALL OVER THE DRIVEWAY, AND CAUSING A LOT OF HOURS OF LABOR FOR ME. THE PART WAS ABOUT $300, BUT I SPENT OVER 6 HOURS INSTALLING IT, SO I DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY THE DEALER $1,000 TO DO SO. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE ON THE ROAD WHEN IT FAILS. SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE HADTHIS PROBLEM, AND IT SHOULD BE A RECALL BY NOW. *TR
1. THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE ARE SIMPLE. IT WAS A QUIET SATURDAY AFTERNOON (4:30 PM ON 7/18/09). I WAS ON A TWO WAY STREET ON THE WAY TO MY SWEETHEART'S HOUSE IN OVERLAND PARK, KS . I WAS GOING AT ABOUT 25 MPH. THERE WAS ONE OTHER CAR IN MY VISION ABOUT 75 FEET BEHIND ME. NO ONE WAS COMING AT ME. TO MY RIGHT WAS AN EMPTY BASEBALL DIAMOND FOR THE LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL AND TO MY LEFT WAS A LARGE ( AT LEAST 10 FEET TALL) CONCRETE WALL ENCLOSING AN UPSCALE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT. 2. WITHOUT WARNING I HEAR AN EXPLOSION FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY SHATTERING GLASS FROM MY SUNROOF CASCADING DOWN UPON ME. THE EXPLOSION WAS JUST THE SOUND OF THE SUNROOF SHATTERING. AS GOD IS MY WITNESS, I SWEAR TT JUST SHATTERED FROM CAUSES BEYOND MY KNOWLEDGE. 3. THE FOLLOWING MONDAY MORNING I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD PURCHASED IT AND REPLACED THE SUNROOF. MY BUMPER-TO-BUMPER WARRANTY WAS STILL IN FORCE BUT FORD MOTOR REFUSED TO HONE UP ON THIS ONE. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THAT FORD DOESN'T KNOW BUT WHAT IT WAS SHOT OUT ACCIDENTALLY BROKEN OUT OR IF SOMEONE HAD PUT THEIR FIST THROUGH IT. THE STRANGE THING WAS THE SUNROOF GLASS THAT WAS STILL IN THE SUNROOF FRAME WAS ANGLING UPWARD AS IF IT HAD BEEN STRUCK FROM INSIDE. THE SERVICE MANAGER POINTED THIS OUT TO ME. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP DID SPLIT THE COST OF REPLACEMENT WITH ME THOUGH. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 FORD EXPLORER THAT IS JERKING WHEN I PUT IT INTO REVERSE AND ALSO HAS JUMPED OUT OF GEAR A COUPLE OF TIMES, THANK GOODNESS I WAS SITTING IN IT AND NO ONE GOT HURT. TAKING IT IN AGAIN TO THE SHOP TOMORROW HOPE THEY CAN FIND A PROBLEM. IF ANYTHING IS DONE I WILL KEEP THE OLD PART. *TR
BOUGHT A 2006 EXPLORER IN DEC. 06 AND HAVE SINCE NOTICED SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH IT. THE MOST CONCERNING IS WHEN THE CAR LUNGES/JERKS FORWARD WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK/REVERSE TO DRIVE. IT IS NOW ALSO STARTING TO SHOW A LOSS OF POWER WHEN SHIFTING THROUGH GEARS AS THE ENGINE REVS BUT GOES NO WHERE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER FOR THE LUNGIN/JERKING AND THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT FEEL IT. IT HAPPENS SPORADICALLY SO THIS DOES NOT SURPRISE ME. I HAVE RECENTLY BEEN NOTICING THIS REVVING AND LOSS OF POWER WHEN SHIFTING GEARS (IT'S AN AUTOMATIC). I HAVE TAKEN IT TO TWO MECHANICS BOTH OF WITH AGREED THAT THE REVVING NOISE IS COMING FROM THE FAN CLUTCH, NOT SURE WHAT THIS IS, BUT COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE LOSS OF POWER. I'M SURE THAT THIS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, AFTER READING THE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON WWW.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM. IT APPEARS AT THIS TIME THAT THE ONLY THING THAT HAS BEEN OFFERED TO THE CUSTOMER LIKE ME, IS REPROGRAM THE COMPUTER WHICH RUNS $150. THIS REPROGRAM SEEMS TO HELP ONLY SOMETIMES. THE ALTERNATIVE WOULD BE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION WHICH IS VERY COSTLY AND FUNDING IS NOT EASY TO COME BY THESE DAYS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPLORER. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A TURN, OR DECELERATE, THE ENGINE WOULD STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER OVER FIVE TO SIX TIMES FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER AND THE POWER TRAIN MODULE . NONE OF THE REPAIRS HAVE REMEDIED THE FAILURE. THE FORD MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. RADIATOR FAILURE AT 46,000 MILES. MECHANIC SAID NO REASON WHY FAILURE OCCURRED, JUST STARTED LEAKING RADIATOR FLUID. DROVE THROUGH ROCKY MOUNTAINS, FAILURE MAY CAUSE ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO OVERHEATING. *TR POOR MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP.
CAR SHIFTS HARD FROM 2ND TO 1ST GEAR, A HARD JOLT LIKE SOMEBODY HAS HIT YOU IN THE REAR END. *TR
THE FILLING OF GAS IN THE VEHICLE IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE- THE GAS SHUTS OFF EVERY 2-3 GALLONS THEN SPITS GAS BACK OUT ALL OVER THE PERSON TRYING TO FILL IT. RESULTING IN GAS BEING SPILLED OUT EVERYWHERE ON THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVER, THE GROUND. THIS BEGAN HAPPENING EVERY FEW TIMES GETTING GAS AND NOW IT IS EVERYTIME. I LOOKED THIS UP ONLINE TO FIND A TSB 07-25-3 PROBLEM ACCOMPANIED BY DTC P0451 SAYING THIS HAPPENS ALOT ON FORD EXPLORERS BUILT BEFORE 11/27/07. I CALLED THE FORD DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT THEY SAID THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. THAT THE EVAP CANISTER AND VAPOR LINE WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. WHY IS THIS NOT A RECALL? IT'S NOT SAFE TO HAVE GAS SPRAYED ON YOU AND THE CAR AND GROUND EVERYTIME YOU TRY TO GET GAS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONCERN. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 EXPLORER V-6 EDDIE BAUER. MY VEHICLE HAS 35,302 MILES. I WAS OUT RUNNING ERRANDS ON A SATURDAY MORNING WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. THEN WITHOUT WARNING THE VEHICLE JUST STARTED JERKING AS THE CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THEN AS I BEGAN TO DRIVE (AFTER THE RED LIGHT) I NOTICED THE RPM'S JUST SEEMING TO GO UP AND DOWN AS I WAS DRIVING. I HAD ABOUT 5 MORE TIMES THAT I NEEDED TO STOP (STOP SIGNS) MY VEHICLE BEFORE I GOT HOME AND IT CONTINUED TO JERK AS I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I DID NOT FEEL SAFE AT ALL DRIVING WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR. AFTER THE CAR FIRST JERKED WHEN I WENT TO STOP THE WRENCH ILLUMINATED STATING POWERTRAIN PROBLEM. I STARTED DOING RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM AND I HAVE FOUND HUNDRED OF THE SAME OR VERY SIMILAR PROBLEMS. WHY HAS FORD NOT LOOKED INTO THIS PROBLEM, COME UP WITH A SOLUTION AND ISSUE A RECALL. *TR
WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ABS,TRACTION AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. A GRINDING NOISE STARTED AND FELT LIKE THE BRAKES WERE BEING USED EVEN THOUGH I WAS TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. COULD HAVE CAUSED A ACCIDENT IF I WASN'T DRIVING IN A NEIGHBORHOOD. WE NOW HAVE A CAR SITTING IN OUR DRIVE BROKEN DOWN THAT WE STILL OWE OVER 15,000 FOR. CALLING FORD MONDAY TO HAVE IT TOWED OVER. WHAT I HAVE READ ONLINE, IT LOOKS LIKE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE A 5 YR OLD AND A 2 YR OLD AND WANT A CAR THAT IS SAFE. MY 2006 FORD EXPLORER FEELS LIKE ITS BEING REAR ENDED. I DIDN'T START FEELING THIS UNTIL I DROVE OFF THE DEALERSHIP LOT WITH MY NEWLY PURCHASED VEHICLE. I'VE TAKEN IT BACK TWO TIMES TO DEALERSHIP TO BE FIXED . *TR
2006 FORD EXPLORER SPORADICALLY DOES NOT SPEED UP WHEN YOU HIT THE ACCELERATOR. FORD APPARENTLY KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND HAS A SOFTWARE FIX IN PLACE THAT YOU MUST PROACTIVELY CONTACT THEM ON...IN OTHER WORDS, YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE PROBLEM ON THE ROAD AND CALL THEM BEFORE THEY WILL DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IT OCCURS EVERYTIME WE DRIVE THE CAR, HOWEVER, IT IS NOT CONSISTENT WHEN IT OCCURS OR HOW OFTEN...AT TIMES IT HAPPENS THE ENTIRE TIME THE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN. THE CONSEQUENCES ARE THAT YOU CAN BE DRIVING 10MPH OR 70MPH AND WHEN YOU HIT THE ACCELERATOR, THE CAR ENGINE WILL REV UP MUCH LIKE YOU WERE SITTING IN NEUTRAL (I.E. IT DOES NOT SPEED UP) AND AFTER A FEW SECONDS WILL KICK INTO GEAR/ENGAGE AND START SPEEDING UP. THIS SEEMS VERY DANGEROUS IF YOU WERE NOT EXPECTING THIS TO OCCUR AND WERE TRYING TO PASS A CAR WITH POSSIBLE ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS ISSUE SHOULD REQUIRE FORD TO RECALL THE VEHICLES BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS INJURED, IF THEY HAVE NOT ALREADY BEEN. *TR
I AM CURRENTLY HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE THE RADIATOR IS LEAKING, AND I HAVE TO CHECK THE WATER LEVEL IN THE VEHICLE EVERY TWO DAYS TO MAKE SURE THAT I DO NOT COMPLETELY RUN THE VEHICLE HOT AND TAKE THE CHANCES NOT HAVING A VEHICLE BY MESSING THE MOTOR UP. THEN ONE DAY THE AIR CONDITIONER JUST STOP BLOWING COLD AIR AND THE TEMPERATURE GAGE STARTED TO RISE TO HOT MY HUSBAND CHECKED THE RADIATOR AND FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED WATER BAD. WE HAVE NOTICED WATER UNDER THE TRUCK BUT WE THOUGHT THAT IT FROM THE AIR CONDITIONER THE WATER UNDER THE TRUCK IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE RADIATOR HAS A LEAK. WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY ON THE CAR AS WELL THIS COST $79.00 THIS HAD ME LATE FOR WORK AS I DID NOT FIND OUT THE BATTERY WAS DEAD UNTIL I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK ONE MORNING. I HAVE CHECK TO SEE JUST HOW MUCH THIS IS GOING TO COST ME TO HAVE THE RADIATOR REPLACED AND IT IS IN THE BALL PARK OF $400 -600. *TR
I HAVE A RADIATOR FAILURE ON MY 2006 FORD EXPLORER, 4.0 L V6. THIS IS NOW THE SECOND RADIATOR I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE IN LESS THAN A YEAR. I HAVE DONE ALOT OF RESEARCH ONLINE AND HAVE COME ACROSS HUNDREDS OF BLOGS AND FORUMS WITH PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. FORD WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A PROBLEM. DAUGHTER DRIVING MOTHER'S 2006 FORD EXPLORER ON NYS RT 87, ABS LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT AND WRENCH LIGHT COME ON, NEAREST EXIT A FEW MILES. ABS WOULD OPERATE RANDOMLY, FORTUNATELY NO ACCIDENT. GRINGING SOUNDS FROM TRANSFER CASE. I FOUND THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TOOTHED RING KNOWN AS THE "EXCITER RING" WAS CRACKED AND LOOSE ON THE AXLE WHICH CAUSES THE SENSOR TO GET BAD READINGS. VEHICLE JUST CUT OFF ONE DAY WHILE DRIVING, LOST POWER, WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. CUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND START IT UP AND OFF YOU GO. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS OVER THE NEXT YEAR, ABOUT 2 TO 3 TIMES A MONTH. HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOT ON. FINALLY AFTER SEVERAL MORE MONTHS OF THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENING THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON. TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND GIVE SOME MORE MONEY TO THEM, JUST FOR THEM TO COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, AND THAT I HAVE A SMALL LEAK IN THE RADIATOR. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO GET THE REPAIRS DONE. I'M ALREADY MAKING PAYMENTS EVERY MONTH FOR A VEHICLE THAT WON'T WORK RIGHT. I TAKE CARE OF MY VEHICLE AND GET ALL THE SERVICES DONE ON TIME. I HAD TO CALL FOR A TOWTRUCK AND LOST A COUPLE OF DAYS OF OUR VACATION UNTIL THE CLOSEST MECHANIC WE FOUND WAS ABLE TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR WITH A NEW ONE FROM FORD. I GOT STUCK WITH A $1000 BILL SINCE THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. BUT THAT WAS NONE OF MY WORRIES. THE ISSUE WAS THAT THE CAR BROKE DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE ON A HIGHWAY AT NIGHT WITH A LOT OF SPEEDING 18WHEELERS. AT 70000 MILES THE INCIDENT HAPPENED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED AND STALLED ON A SHORT 30 MILE EXCURSION TO BRANSON MISSOURI. THE HILLY HIGHWAY LEADING TO BRANSON MISSOURI IS NOT THE BEST PLACE TO BREAK DOWN. OPENED THE HOOD ONLY TO SEE THE RADIATOR STEAMING AGAIN. THE CAR WAS TOWED AGAIN AND FIXED AT A $1200 BILL. THE VEHICLE IS A LEMON AND FORD SHOULD BE FORCED TO BUY IT BACK OR AT LEAST FIX THE PROBLEM PERMANENTLY. IT CAN BREAK DOWN ANYWHERE ANYTIME, AND BECAUSE THE WAY IT BREAKS DOWN AND STALLS BECAUSE OF THE OVERHEATING IT CAN CAUSE A REALLY BAD ACCIDENT IF YOU ARE UNLUCKY ENOUGH. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE ABS / CHECK ENGINE / RSC WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. THE TRUCK WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN FOR A COUPLE OF MILES, BUT THEN IT STARTED MAKING A NOISE FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE TRUCK WAS NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN TO A SAFE LOCATION AND WAS LEFT ON THE SIDE OF A ROAD IN A HIGH TRAFFIC AREA AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER FOUND OUT THE REAR RIGHT TOOTHED RING KNOWN AS AN "EXCITER RING" WAS LOOSE ON THE AXLE. THEY REPORTED THE WHOLE AXLE PART NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF HOW IT'S MADE AT A COST OF $630 INSTALLED. THEY INDICATED THEY HAD NO REQUIREMENT TO REPORT THIS PROBLEM AND I BELIEVE THIS IS A MAJOR DEFECT WITH UNFORESEEN SAFETY PROBLEMS THAT IS BEING UNDER REPORTED. MY TRUCK ONLY HAD 50K MILES AND I HAVE RESEARCHED MANY OTHER INDIVIDUALS REPORTING THE PROBLEM ON CAR AND TRUCK FORUMS. I HAVE INDICATED ON THE FORUMS TO REPORT THIS DEFECT TO YOUR WEB SITE AND INCLUDED THE LINKS. THE FORUMS ARE INDICATING FORD KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM AND MY DEALERSHIP SAID THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPEN ONCE IN A WHILE. LOOKING AT THE COMPLAINTS ON ONE OF THE FORD CHAT BOARDS IT LOOKS LIKE THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF US WITH THE SAME PROBLEM FROM 2006. DEALER ADMITTED THEY KNEW OF THE PROBLEM BUT THAT REPLACEMENT WAS NOT YET COVERED BY FORD AND THE RADIATORS WERE CURRENTLY ON BACK ORDER DUE TO HEAVY DEMAND. *TR

I TOOK MY WIFE'S EXPLORER TO THE DEALERSHIP AND DESCRIBED THE ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE POPPING INTO GEAR LATE, OR DELAYING BEFORE IT GOES INTO GEAR. I CAN EVEN FEEL IT WHEN IT CHANGES GEARS WHEN DRIVING. SOMETIMES MORE SUDDEN THAN OTHER TIMES.
