THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDSHIELD TRIM BLEW OFF THE CAR WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH ON AN INTERSTATE CREATING A DANGEROUS PROJECTILE FOR VEHICLES BEHIND ME.
WHEN THE SHIFTER IS MECHANICALLY AND SECURELY IN PARK, THE VEHICLE'S SENSOR SYSTEM DOES NOT RECOGNIZE IT IS IN PARK. THIS LEADS TO STARTING ISSUES NBECASUE OF TWO FACTORS: 1. THE BATTERY WEARS DOWN SINCE THE CAR DOES NOT COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AND 2. STARTING THE VEHICLE REQUIRES IT TO BE IN PARK WHICH THE VEICHILE DOES NOT RECOGNIZE IT IS IN.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH, the contact heard an abnormal snap and saw the trim panel of the front windshield detach from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an auto glass shop and the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was out of warranty and that there was no recall for the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000. The contact stated that the trim panel has been replaced 3 times now. The fourth set of trim panel is now cracked and will have to be replaced again. All sets of trim panel were purchased from and installed by the same two companies each time. The contact also stated that the failure mileage was 50,000.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Explorer. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V031000 (Structure); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH, there was an abnormal snap and the contact saw the trim piece of the front windshield detach from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an auto glass shop and the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The trim panel had been replaced 3 times. The contact fourth set of trim panels had cracked and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the sets of trim panels were purchased from and installed by the same two companies each time. I PLACED A CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR IN MY VEHICLE AFTER READING ABOUT ISSUES. IT HAS BEEN GOING OFF DUE TO HIGH LEVELS OF CO DETECTED INSIDE MY CAR. THE DETECTOR ONLY STOPS BEEPING WHEN I OPEN ALL OF THE WINDOWS AND TURN OFF THE AIR CONDITIONER. I USE A KIDDE CO DETECTOR THAT WILL ALARM IF LEVELS ARE ABOVE 30PPM. I HAVE SMALL CHILDREN IN THE CAR MOST OF THE TIME, AND I WANT A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE TO GET IT FIXED AND PREVENT ISSUES WITH THEIR HEALTH OR AN ACCIDENT THAT CAN ENDANGER BOTH MY FAMILY AND OTHERS, AS WELL AS FIX ALL EXPLORERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THE DETECTOR GOES OFF WHEN THE WINDOWS ARE CLOSED AND THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ON, AND WHEN I ACCELERATE.
OUR 2012 FORD EXPLORER HAS A HEAVY FUEL SMELL IN THE CABIN AFTER DRIVING FOR MORE THAT A FEW MINUTES. IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE AS TIME PASSES.

NOTICED MORE WHEN AC IS ON. BOUGHT VEHICLE USED FROM A LOCAL CAR DEALER IN FEB OF 2017
LEAKING EXHAUST I HAVE BEEN TESTED AND HAVE HIGH LEVELS OF CARBON DIOXIDE IN MY BLOOD I NOW HAVE A BATTERY OPERATED CARBON DIOXIDE TESTER IN MY VEHICLE. I PRAY THIS PROTECTS ME. I WAS SO FATIGUED LAST SUMMER, I WENT STRAIGHT TO BED AFTER WORK. NOW I FINALLY KNOW WHY!
SMELLS EXHAUST IN THE CABIN. I HAVE BEEN GETTING HEAD ACHES AND NAUSEA WHEN I DRIVE. VEHICLE IN MOTION AND AFTER BEING IN THE CAR I GET AN EXHAUST SMELL AND GET SICK.
I HAVE THE SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH MY EXHAUST SYSTEM. ALTHOUGH, NO CHECK LIGHT IS ON, WHEN MY CAR IS IDLING OR EARLIER TODAY WHEN I WAS JUST DRIVING FOR AWHILE WITH THE HEAT ON, I SPELL A STRONG EXHAUST SMELL IN THE CAR.
WE HAVE NOTICED INTERMITTENT ODORS IN THE CABIN. SULPHUR SMELLING ODOR AFTER ACCELERATING QUICKLY (FOR EXAMPLE PASSING, MERGING). IT HAPPENS WHEN THE HEAT IS ON, OR OFF. IT HAS HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY FOR AS LONG AS WE CAN RECALL HOWEVER THE SMELL IS NOW (APPROX. THE LAST YEAR) NOTICEABLE JUST ABOUT ANY TIME WE DO HIGHWAY DRIVING. IT ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY. ON THE INFREQUENT OCCASION THAT I NEED TO MAKE A QUICK ACCELERATION WHILE DOING AROUND-TOWN DRIVING, THE SMELL CAN BE NOTICED. I AM CURRENTLY RECEIVING MEDICAL ATTENTION FOR SEVERE SYMPTOMS OF, WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE, CARBON MONOXIDE EXPOSURE. SYMPTOMS INCLUDE EXTREME FATIGUE AND HEADACHES.
FRONT STRUT BEARINGS CLUNKING/ FAILED. NEEDED REPLACED. 55,000 MILES. STRONG ODOR OF CARBON MONOXIDE WHEN ACCELERATING OR FOLLOWING LARGE TRUCKS.
THE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS WERE NOT RELEASING PROPERLY AFTER APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES. THIS LED TO ACCELERATED WEAR OF THE BRAKE PADS, OVERHEATING OF THE PADS AND ROTORS, AND ULTIMATELY, NON-REPAIRABLE DAMAGE TO THE ROTORS. WE BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE RELATED TO A DESIGN FLAW THAT COULD LEAD TO BRAKE FAILURE, OR OVERHEATING TO THE POINT OF CREATING A FIRE OR EXPLOSION HAZARD.
I WAS DRIVING AND FOR NO OBVIOUS MEDICAL REASON PASSED OUT AND MY CAR TRAVELED ACROSS A HIGHWAY AND OFF THE HIGHWAY AND HIT 2 TREES. I HAVE READ A NEWS REPORT OF THIS HAPPENING TO OTHER DRIVERS WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF MY CARD.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE STARTED TO MAKE A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT AREA. PULL OVER AND TOW TO DEALER . THE TRANSMISSION PTO HAD A INTERNAL FAILURE. THE CAR ONLY HAS 51K MILES NORMAL DRIVING. I SEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT FORD HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THIS PART BREAKING IN LOW TIME. THIS COULD BE A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
THE CO DETECTOR I INSTALLED (BATTERY OPERATED) SOUNDS IF I CLOSE MY WINDOWS FOR MORE THAN A FEW MOMENTS DURING A TRIP. MY 10 YEAR OLD SON CAN NOT RIDE IN MY TRUCK AS HE HAS VOMITED SEVERAL TIMES DURING TRIPS IN THE PAST. THE IDEA THAT THE VEHICLE I DRIVE IS POISONING MY SON INFURIATES ME. THE EXHAUST ODOR IS UNBEARABLE, COUPLED WITH THE NAUSEA AND HEADACHES THAT RESULT FROM THE CO LEAKS I FIND MYSELF MORE AND MORE ANGRY THAT WE SPENT $30K ON A DEATH TRAP
ABOUT A YEAR AGO I BOUGHT 2012 FORD EXPLORER XLT WITH A 2.0 FOUR CYLINDER ECO BOOST ENGINE FROM A DEALER IN AKRON OHIO. I LIVE IN ROCHESTER, NY. DURING THE FIRST WINTER MONTHS I HAD THE CAR, WHEN I HAD THE HEAT ON I NOTICED A STRONG EXHAUST SMELL IN THE CABIN. AT FIRST I THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY BECAUSE THE CAR WAS IN SUCH GREAT SHAPE, BUT THE MORE PASSENGERS WOULD SAY THE SAME THING I STARTED TO REALIZE IT WAS A REAL ISSUE. I DID SOME SEARCHING ONLINE AND SEE THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. WHEN I HAVE THE HEAT ON AND I PUT THE CIRCULATION IN RECYCLE MODE, IT SEEMS TO SUBSIDE THE PROBLEM A LITTLE, BUT THEN THE RECYCLE MODE SHUTS OFF AND GOES INTO FRESH AIR MODE AUTOMATICALLY AGAIN I GET BLASTED AGAIN WITH THESE HORRIBLE FUMES. THIS HAPPENS ABOUT EVERY 5 MINUTES WHILE I AM DRIVING AND I HAVE TO KEEP HITTING RECYCLE AND OPENING UP THE WINDOWS WHILE I AM DRIVING TO AIR OUT THE FUMES. WHEN I AM MOVING AT 50 OR MORE IT DOES NOT SEEM TO BE AN ISSUE, I DON'T KNOW WHY, BUT WHEN I COME TO A STOP IT IS BAD, EXHAUST FUMES SPEW INTO THE CABIN. I GET HEADACHES ALL THE TIME WHILE DRIVING. I AM AFRAID TO TAKE MY KIDS IN THE CAR BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. IF I START THE CAR FIRST THING IN THE MORNING AND I FORGOT TO TURN THE HEAT OFF THE NIGHT BEFORE, THE HEATER KICKS IN WHEN I START IT AND IT IS BAD. THIS MORNING IT SNOWED HERE IN ROCHESTER SO I WENT OUT AND STARTED THE CAR AND LET IT WARM UP FOR 5 MINUTES, WHEN I CAME OUT IT SMELLED SO BAD I COULDN'T EVEN GET IN. I HAD TO ROLLS DOWN THE WINDOWS AND LET IT AIR OUT, AND EVEN THEN WHEN I CAME TO WORK TODAY I HAVE HAD A HEADACHE ALL DAY AND I SMELL LIKE AN EXHAUST STACK. PLEASE HELP ME. I LOVE THE CAR, EXCEPT FOR THE FUMES ISSUE.
THE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON CONTINUOUSLY DESPITE BEING CHECKED. I SEE THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAG BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING UNDER MY SEAT TO AFFECT THE UNITS BEING UNPLUGGED
PAINT "BUBBLING" HAS TAKEN PLACE ON THE LIFT GATE IN THE VICINITY OF THE LIFT GATE HANDLE. THE BUBBLING HAS ENLARGED SIGNIFICANTLY SINCE I FIRST DISCOVERED IT IN DECEMBER OF 2016. NO ACCIDENT. NORMAL OPERATION AND USE BY A PRIVATE INDIVIDUAL
POWER STEERING ON THE VEHICLE HAS FAILED ON AND OFF. I FIND OUT TOMORROW WHAT KIND OF SERVICE BILL I AM GOING TO BE HIT WITH WHEN THEY ATTEMPT THE RECALL. LATELY WHEN IT RAINS IT'S LIKE IT IS LITERALLY RAINING INSIDE MY TRUCK. THE WATER LEAKS RIGHT THROUGH THE TOP WHERE MY LIGHT AND THE BUTTONS FOR MY SUNROOF IS. NOW MY BACK UP CAMERA DOESN'T WORK AND MY TRUCK IS STARTING TO SMELL LIKE MOLE. I'M ALSO AFRAID THAT THE WATER LEAKAGE IS GOING TO DESTROY ALL ELECTRICAL PROBLEM OR CAUSE A AN ELECTRICAL FIRE WHILE I'M IN MY TRUCK WITH MY KIDS. I ALSO DON'T WANT MY FLOOR TO RUST. FUMES ENTERING THE CABIN MAKING THE PASSENGERS NAUSEOUS AND RESULTING IN HEADACHES. WE NOTICED THAT ONLY WHEN WE ARE IN MY HUSBAND'S CAR THAT MY CHILDREN AND I BECOME SICK WITH HEADACHES AND NAUSEA. MY HUSBAND DRIVES TO WORK IN THIS VEHICLE AND USUALLY ARRIVES TO WORK WITH A HEADACHE. HE DIDN'T REALIZE THAT THE CAR WAS MAKING HIM SICK. HE TRUSTED THE SERVICE PEOPLE WHEN THEY TOLD HIM THE CAR WAS FINE. HE TYPICALLY DIVES ON HIGHWAYS. THE FUMES ARE COMING THROUGH THE VENTS.
DROVE ABOUT 2 MILES IN THE MORNING WHILE TURNING ONTO THE INTERSTATE RAMP THE STEERING LOCKED UP WOULD NOT GO OVER 30MPH, SUV STARTED TO SMOKE WHILE THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE NEVER CHANGED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. LUCKY TO NOT HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT. AFTER HAVING VEHICLE TOWED, PER THE MECHANIC THE COMPUTER SYSTEM IS FRIED, MOTOR VALVES MELTED, AND ALL SPARK PLUGS NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS SUV IS ONLY A 2012 AND SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS MAJOR OF PROBLEMS WHEN IT HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF. FORD REALLY NEEDS TO LOOK FURTHER INTO THIS SO THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN TO SOMEONE ELSE.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY POWER WOULD BE LOST. WHEN APPLYING MORE PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR, NO USABLE POWER WAS PRESENT AND THE VEHICLE COULD NOT EXCEED 30 MPH. AFTER THIS OCCURRED ON THE 4TH TIME ON A SUBSEQUENT DAY, THE "ENGINE" SYMBOL WAS DISPLAYED. CURRENTLY THE VEHICLE IS AT A FORD DEALERSHIP TO TROUBLESHOOT THE PROBLEM. ON TWO OCCASIONS THIS DISCREPANCY WITH ACCELERATION AND FUNCTIONALITY OF AVAILABLE POWER NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WITH SMALL CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE. THIS SHOULD CAUSE A MAJOR CONCERN TO OTHER OWNERS AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY AS A WHOLE DUE TO THE POTENTIAL DAMAGE, INJURY, OR DEATH THAT COULD OCCUR DUE TO COMPLETELY LOSING ACCELERATION AND/OR POWER WHILE DRIVING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL FUEL ODOR WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL ODOR COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED; HOWEVER, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED AS AN AIR FILTER NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
SMELL WHAT SMELLS LIKE ROTTEN EGGS. FEAR MY FAMILY AND I MAY BE IN RISK FOR CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING.
MY 2012 FORD EXPLORE LTD. STOPS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING. A WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON IN LOWER LEFT DASH, AND THE CAR LOSES POWER. I CAN NO LONGER ONCE THIS HAPPENS. I MUST TURN OFF THE CAR AND RESTART THE ENGINE TO GET IT GOING AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY GOING 70 MILES PER HOUR, AND IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS, ON REGULAR CITY, SUBURBAN OR NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS, NOT TO MENTION IT IS NOW HAPPENING 2-3 TIMES A DAY WHILE WITH NO WARNING. IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING ONLY, SOMETIMES AFTER TURNING, SOMETIMES NOT, BUT THE CAR IS ALWAYS IN MOTION AT THE TIME, AT VARIOUS SPEEDS IN VARIOUS TEMPERATURES, WITH CLIMATE CONTROL EITHER OFF OR ON, SEEMS TO HAVE NO BEARING. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND CAN EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, INJURY OR DEATH. APPARENTLY THE CURRENT RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING DOES NOT ADDRESS THIS. I AM HAVING THAT WORKED ON RIGHT NOW AS I TYPE. THIS HAPPENED ONCE LAST YEAR ON THE HIGHWAY, AND ONCE ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO AS I PULLED OUT OF A PARKING LOT. HADN'T HAPPENED AGAIN SINCE UNTIL THE MONTH OF OCTOBER IN THE 80 DEGREE WEATHER OF PLANO TX, WHETHER CAR WAS ALREADY WARMED-UP OR NOT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PURGE VALVE WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,128.
TAKATA RECALL I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN JANUARY 2016, ON OCTOBER 22, 2016 WHILE DRIVING IN ELBERTON GEORGIA MY CAR ALERTED ME THAT THE POWER STEERING NEEDED TO BE SERVICED. ABOUT 2 MILES DOWN THE ROAD MY TURN SIGNAL WOULDN'T STAY ON WHEN BEING USED TO TURN. A FEW HOURS LATER WHEN READY TO HEAD HOME I COULD NOT GET MY CAR TO STEER WITHOUT MAJOR EFFORT ON MY PART. I AM A MOTHER OF 3 AND I REFUSE TO PUT MY KIDS IN AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. THE ISSUE HAS TO DO WITH THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE AND I WAS INFORMED BY FORD THAT THEY WOULD NOT FIX THE ISSUE AT NO CHARGE BECAUSE THE RECALL 14S06 HAS EXPIRED AND I HAD EXCEEDED THE MILEAGE WARRANTY BY ALMOST 3000 MILES. I DON'T FEEL THAT I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CHARGES TO GET THIS ISSUE FIXED BEING AS I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE RECALL. I'M NOT HAPPY THAT I'M EXPECTED TO COVER CHARGES ON SOMETHING I WASN'T AWARE WAS A PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE UNTIL THE SERVICE ALERT APPEARED. THIS IS MY 1ST FORD VEHICLE AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT, HOWEVER, IF THIS IS THE CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT I AM GOING TO RECEIVE I WILL NOT EVER BUY ANOTHER FORD VEHICLE AND I WILL NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO PURCHASE FROM FORD. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR 2 DAYS AS OF RIGHT NOW, WHICH MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO GET MY KIDS TO DAYCARE/SCHOOL AND GET TO WORK. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD FLEW OFF. UPON STOPPING AND INSPECTING, THE PLASTIC SLIPS THAT HELD IT IN PLACE WERE BROKEN. I CHECKED THE DRIVER SIDE, AND THE CLIPS ARE STARTING TO BREAK ON THERE AS WELL, IT IS NO LONGER ATTACHED AT THE TOP AND IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME THAT FAILS COMPLETELY AS WELL. I HAVE ATTACHED PICTURES SHOWING THE PASSENGER SIDE THAT FLEW OFF AND THE DRIVER SIDE THAT IS FAILING. *TR
VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVING PERFECTLY FINE AND OUT OF NO WHERE IT SHOWS 2 WARNINGS. ONE INDICTING TO SERVICE POWER STEERING, AND THE OTHER INDICTATING TO SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC SYSTEM. THE STEERING FLUID IS FULL AND THERE ARE NO DAMAGED TO THE HOSE OR POWER STEERING SYSTEM. THIS IS SHOWING THE SAME SIGNS OF THE RECALLED EXPLORERS YET THIS ONE HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED.
MY AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON AND WON'T TURN. WHAT I HAVE READ IS ONCE IT ON THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY I'M CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. FORD KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND IS NOT TRYING TO FIX THIS IS VERY UNACCEPTABLE FOR SUCH AN EXPENSIVE VEHICLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER A PILLAR FRACTURED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE A PILLAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER A PILLAR PREVIOUSLY FRACTURED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.
VEHICLE HAS 66,000 MILES. THE SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW AND ADVANCETRAC WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON SATURDAY EVENING (9/10/16). VEHICLE DROVE WITH NO ISSUES THAT EVENING. SUNDAY MORNING (9/11/16) THE SAME INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE POWER STEERING DID NOT WORK. CHECKED FOR LEAKS, FUSES, ETC. AND NO APPARENT ISSUES. AS DEALERSHIPS WERE CLOSED ON SUNDAY, AUTOZONE RAN DIAGNOSTICS AND SHOWED ZERO ERROR CODES, EVEN WITH WARNING LIGHTS ON. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXISTING 2012 FORD EXPLORER RECALL REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE THAT SEEMS TO BE OCCURRING IN THE SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR.
WHILE DRIVING ON TRIP, THE CALIPERS SEIZED, THE BRAKES ALMOST CAUGHT FIRE. THE CALIPER AND ROTOR BOTH HAD TO BE REPLACED WITH ONLY 51,000 MILES. ALSO, THE REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE ALSO REPLACED AT 27,500 MILES.

MY 2012 FORD EXPLORER WOULD ALL OF A SUDDEN SOUND LIKE IT WAS SLIPPING OUT OF GEAR WHILE DRIVING. I WOULD LOSE ALL CONTROL OF THE ACCELERATOR & VEHICLE WOULD IDLE VERY ROUGH. THE "WRENCH" LIGHT WOULD APPEAR ON THE DASH DISPLAY. I WOULD HAVE TO DRIFT OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURN THE VEHICLE OFF, & THEN RE-START THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING & BECAME MORE FREQUENT. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY (AT MY COST) & EXPLAINED NO RECALL HAD BEEN DETERMINED YET, BUT EXPECTED IT TO BE ISSUED IN THE FUTURE DUE TO THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS. I ALSO HAD TO PAY TO HAVE MY SELECTOR LEVER ASSEMBLY REPLACED AGAIN SINCE I WAS AGAIN HAVING THE ISSUE OF VEHICLE PROBLEM OF "SHIFT TO PARK" APPEARING ONCE AGAIN. THE FIRST TIME THIS PART WAS REPLACED IT WAS COVERED UNDER TSB 15-0047, BUT THIS TIME IT WAS AT MY EXPENSE.
GEAR SHIFT MESSAGE - 'SHIFT TO PARK' AFTER PUTTING VEHICLE IN PARK AND IGNITION IS TURNED OFF.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving approximately 35-60 MPH, the front passenger's side vertical rubber gasket of the windshield detached and was slapping against the windshield. The contact continued driving. Upon arriving to her destination, the contact pushed the part into place; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the front passenger's side vertical rubber gasket of the windshield was scuffing the windshield. The contact also stated that the failure was distracting and obstructed her vision while driving. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle into the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
I/WE HAVE HAD MULTIPLE OCCASIONS OF THE ENGINE FAILURE TO ACCELERATE WHILE IN A REGULAR DRIVING MODE. THE ENGINE WILL NOT CONTINUE TO RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. TODAY I WAS ABLE TO PULL A CODE P2111 AND TOOK THAT IN. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A MALFUNCTIONING THROTTLE BODY. THIS APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM THAT IS OCCURRING IN THIS AND SIMILAR VEHICLES. FORD HAS SAID THEY WILL NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON A LOCAL ROAD AT THE TIME OF THE CONDITION OCCURRED. WE PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT TO GET IT OFF THE STREET. AFTER PULLING THE CODE THE VEHICLE STILL WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. UPON RESTART IT RAN CORRECTLY.
THE PTU UNIT WENT BAD AND HAD NO OIL IN IT- WHOLE UNIT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. SHOULD HAVE OIL, SHOULD BE PERMANENT. NO REASON FOR THIS- CAR IS 4 YEARS OLD AND NOW WE ARE PAYING $2000 TO FIX. READ THAT THIS PROBLEM IS AN EPIDEMIC. SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM. IT'S EVERYWHERE FORD HAS AWD!!
AWD OFF ERROR AND WRENCH SYMBOL - ISSUE HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES, UNDER DIFFERENT CONDITIONS. WITHOUT WARNING, THE VEHICLE LOSES ACCELERATION AND THE WRENCH ICON AND AWD ERRORS DISPLAY. THE THROTTLE BECOMES UNRESPONSIVE, BUT ALL OTHER SYSTEMS REMAIN FUNCTIONING. IF YOU LEAVE IT IN GEAR WITHOUT THE BRAKES ENGAGED, IT WILL MOVE AT IDLE SPEED ON FLAT GROUND, BUT IS UNABLE TO NAVIGATE INCLINES. WHEN SLOWING TO A STOP, THE WHOLE VEHICLE SHUDDERS. STOPPING AND RESTARTING NORMALLY RETURNS THE VEHICLE TO NORMAL OPERATION. THIS HAS ACCURED OVER A DOZEN TIMES. DEALER HAS SAID THAT THERE ARE NO CODES REPORTING THE PROBLEM. RECOMMENDED WE REPLACE TIRES. REPLACED TIRES AND ISSUE IS STILL PRESENT. HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD TO BRING IN OTHER RESOURCES TO TRIAGE/DIAGNOSE ISSUE WITHOUT SUCCESS. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE AS WHEN TO ISSUE PRESENTS ITSELF, THE CAR STOPS UNEXPECTEDLY AND MUST BE SHIFTED INTO PARK IN ORDER TO CLEAR THE PROBLEM. ON ROADS WITHOUT SHOULDERS OR MULTIPLE LANES, THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS AS THE CAR IS SOMETIMES NOT ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND MUST BE PUT INTO PARK WHERE IT STOPS. THE CAR IS TO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND THERE ARE NO KNOW FIXES RIGHT NOW.
EXHAUST IS GETTING INTO THE CABIN OF THE CAR THROUGH THE A/C. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, INCLUDING 7/30, I WILL START THE CAR AND IMMEDIATELY THERE ARE FUMES COMING FROM THE A/C. WHILE DRIVING ON 7/30 WE EXPERIENCED THIS SMELL AND EXPERIENCED HEADACHES WHILE DRIVING. ALSO, THE SMELL IS OVERPOWERING WHEN STANDING OUTSIDE OF THE RUNNING VEHICLE. MORE THAN ANY OTHER CAR I HAVE OWNED.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY MY EXPLORER MADE A LOUD CLUNK SOUND AND THEN THE WRENCH SYMBOL APPEARED ON MY DASHBOARD. THEN THE GAS PEDAL QUIT WORKING, AND WE HAD TO ROLL OFF THE HIGHWAY AVOIDING BEING HIT BY OTHER TRAFFIC. I HAD TO STOP AND RESTART MY CAR 5-6 TIMES BEFORE THE GAS PEDAL WOULD WORK AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED 5 TIMES IN THE PAST TWO MONTHS, AND WHEN I CALLED TO HAVE IT SERVICED THEY TOLD ME THE WRENCH LIGHT HAD TO BE ON FOR THEM TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. BUT I CANT GO ANYWHERE WHEN THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AND A TOW TRUCK WILL NOT TOW A CAR WITH IT RUNNING FOR ME TO GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE TESTED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING. THE THROTTLE BODY IS GOING OUT ON MANY EXPLORERS AFTER 55,000 MILES. IS IT GOING TO TAKE DEATHS BEFORE THIS IS A RECALL?

DRIVING AT 60 MPH ORANGE LIGHT OF DEATH CAME ON AND COMPLETELY LOST POWER STEERING AND SPEED . CAR ENTERED A LIMP HOME MODE I LET IT COME TO A STOP ON SIDE OF ROAD AND IT WAS SHAKING. I RESTARTED AND DROVE ON TO WORK, IT WORKED FINE.. LUCKILY NOONE WAS AROUND ME..THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR ME AND MY KIDS. THIS IS 3RD TIME IT HAPPENED... READING POSTS ITS DEFINITELY THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY THAT IS CHEAPLY MADE..THE FUSION, ESCAPE, ETC HAVE HAD AN RECALL FOR THIS...BUT NOT THE EXPLORER..PLEASE PRAY FOR MY FAMILY.
WHEN WE ACCELERATE IN OUR 2012 FORD EXPLORER, THE CABIN IS FILLED WITH EXHAUST FUMES. MANY TIMES WE ARE REQUIRED TO ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN TO LET THE FUMES OUT AS THEY CAUSE HEADACHES AND SMELL BAD. THIS MAINLY OCCURS WHEN WE ACCELERATE ON TO A HIGHWAY/INTERSTATE FROM THE ON RAMP.
