TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE LOW ENGINE PRESSURE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 56,700. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHEN I WAS DRIVING MY FORD EXPLORER 2012 ON A BUSY HIGHWAY (US 60), THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY REMINDED ME THAT "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT", THEN THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME INOPERABLE, WHICH PUT ME IN AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS POSITION. VERY LUCKILY, NO ACCIDENT HAPPENED; A GENTLEMAN STEPPED OUT HIS VEHICLE AND TOLD ME TO RESTART THE VEHICLE; AFTER THAT MY VEHICLE BECOME OPERABLE. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME, "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" OCCURRED IN THIS VEHICLE, AND IT WAS COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED DURING DRIVING IN A BUSY HIGHWAY. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS FAULT!!! ON OCT. 1ST, 2014, THIS VEHICLE'S "POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE" WAS REPROGRAMMED, (2011-2013 EXPLORER, ELECTRIC POWER STEERING REPROGRAM PSCM), AT A FORD DEALER. THE FAULT OCCURRED TODAY APPEARS AN EVIDENCE THAT THE "REPROGRAM" DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. GIVEN A LARGE NUMBER OF FORD EXPLORERS RUNNING ON THE ROAD, I BELIEVE, THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS HIGHWAY SAFETY PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED IN REVERSE, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED COMPLETELY. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ANGLE SENSOR AND HOUSING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000.
FOR ABOUT THE LAST YEAR, I WOULD SMELL SOMETHING BURNING INSIDE MY VEHICLE WHEN ENTERING THE FREEWAY. I WAS NEVER ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE SOURCE OF THE SMELL, EVEN AFTER REPEATEDLY STOPPING TO SNIFF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND AROUND THE TIRES AND EXHAUST. I COULD NOT DETECT THE SMELL OUTSIDE OF THE CAR, NOR DID I FIND ANY EVIDENCE OF ANYTHING BURNING (NO SMOKE, CHARRED AREAS, STUCK BRAKES, MELTED RUBBER, ETC). THERE DIDN'T APPEAR TO BE ANY PATTERN, AS I WOULD SMELL SOMETHING BURNING AT DIFFERENT POINTS IN MY COMMUTE, WITH THE ONLY TIME I CONSISTENTLY EXPERIENCED IT BEING MERGING ONTO THE FREEWAY. ON JUNE 20, 2016 AT 1:38 PM CENTRAL TIME, I SENT MY HUSBAND THE FOLLOWING TEXT: "IS THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER STILL IN THE CAR?" DUE TO THE OVERPOWERING SMELL OF SMOKE IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT SHORTLY AFTER GETTING ON THE FREEWAY. I ROLLED DOWN THE WINDOWS AND EXITED THE FREEWAY, STOPPING AT THE FAR END OF A PARKING LOT. THERE WAS NO SMOKE NOR ODOR EMANATING FROM THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. DUE TO THE HEAT, WE DRIVE WITH THE AIR RECIRCULATING MOST OF THE YEAR. MUCH OF OUR DRIVING IS IN THE CITY, WITH LIGHT ACCELERATION. TYPICALLY, THE ONLY TIME WE RAPIDLY ACCELERATE IS WHEN ENTERING THE FREEWAY. ON THIS OCCASION, I ACCELERATED MORE THAN NORMAL DUE TO A SEMI'S POSITION IN THE RIGHT LANE. AT TIMES, MY 7 YEAR OLD HAS COMPLAINED ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO BREATHE WITH THE WINDOWS ROLLED UP.
STRONG EXHAUST SMELL INSIDE CABIN WHEN ACCELERATING. VEHICLE HAD ABOUT 65000 MILES. MY SPEED WAS FROM 0MPH TO 65 MPH.
THROTTLE BODY ELECTRONICS, VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY STOP. I WAS DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AT 55MPH AND SUDDENLY STOPPED MOVING WHEN FAILURE OCCURRED. DASHBOARD INDICATED A 4 WHEEL DRIVE OR ENGINE CHECK. I WAS SLOWED TO 2MPH LUCKILY NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE BEHIND ME. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC, NO WARNING. FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND IS NOT RECALLING VEHICLES WHY, THE PARTS ARE IN SHORT SUPPLY MY SUV WAS IN THE GARAGE FOR 10 DAYS WAITING FOR PART, THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE A RECALL. FORD REPAIRED MY EXPLORER BUT MANY DRIVERS ARE ON THE ROAD AND HAVE NO IDEA THIS COULD HAPPEN TO THEM. SAFETY FIRST PLEASE
I OWN A 2012 FORD EXPLORER XLT ECOBOOST WAS FUNCTIONING FINE TILL ONE DAY DRIVING MY FAMILY BACK FROM THE AIRPORT MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND BEGAN TO FLASH. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR SUV BEGAN TO SHAKE HORRIBLY AND WOULD NOT IN ACCELERATION. AFTER HAVING THE EXPLORER TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ECOBOOST SYSTEM FAILED.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the side fasteners on the driver's and passenger's side of the front windshield detached and separated from the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY FAILURE WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. VERY DANGEROUS.
DRIVER DOOR BOUNCED WHEN CLOSING. WOULD NOT LATCH. TRIED TWICE. WENT OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE. FOUND PART OF DOOR LATCH ON GROUND. ABLE TO CYCLE LATCH WITH KEY FOB AND DOOR WAS ABLE TO LATCH TO GET HOME. WAS REPAIRED UNDER A SERVICE CONTRACT FOR $100. SEEMS LIKE A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE LATCH ASSEMBLY. VEHICLE WAS PARKED AT THE TIME .
WHEN ACCELERATING TO GAIN ACCESS TO A HIGHWAY OR JUST SPEEDING UP ON A LOCAL STREET, THERE IS A GAS OR BURNT OIL SMELL THAT PERMEATES THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I ACCELERATE, EVERY DAY.
THE ALUMINUM HOOD CAUSE GALVANIC CORROSION AND RUST BUBBLES FORMED ON THE FRONT OF THE HOOD. THESE BUBBLES STARTED TO PEEL AND FORD REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THEIR DESIGN FLAW.
THE FRONT STRUT TOWER MOUNTS ARE BAD. THIS IS ON EVERY 2011-2015 FORD EXPLORER I HAVE SEEN. IT MAKES A BAD CLUNK SOUND EVERYTIME THE WHEEL IS TURNED.
I WAS DRIVING ON I30 EASTBOUND IN TEXAS ON OCTOBER OF 2015 WHEN WITHOUT WARNING MY PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD MOLDING CAME OFF AND HIT THE CAR BEHIND ME. AFTER STOPPING AND CHECKING BOTH VEHICLES NO INJURIES OR DAM AGE TO THE OTHER VEHICLE AND WE WENT ON OUR WAY. I CONTACTED MY FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS NOT WARRANTED AND THE COST TO REPAIR WOULD BE AROUND $400. I EXPRESSED MY DISPLEASURE WITH THIS AND HAD IT REPAIRED.I CHALKED IT OFF TO A FLUKE, ON MAY 10 2016 WE WERE COMING BACK FROM AN EVENT DOING ABOUT 65MPH WHEN I HEARD SOMETHING "POP" AND REALIZED SOMETHING WAS WRONG. THE FREEWAY WAS BUSY AND IT WAS AT NIGHT SO THE DECISION WAS MADE TO KEEP DRIVING AS WE WERE ONLY A COUPLE OF MILES FROM HOME. UPON ARRIVING AT HOME OUR INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THIS TIME THE WINDSHIELD MOLDING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE HAD COME OFF. KNOWING THE COST OF REPAIR I DECIDED TO SEARCH THE INTERNET AND SEE IF I COULD BUY THE PARTS MYSELF AND REPAIR. WHILE DOING THE SEARCH I FOUND THAT THE WEB WAS LOADED WITH HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME RE-OCCURRING PROBLEMS. THE COST OF THESE PARTS ARE OVER $200 BUT MORE THAN THAT IS THE SAFETY ISSUE THAT IS INVOLVED. IF THIS DEFECTIVE PART HAD COME OFF AND HIT A MOTORCYCLE RIDER IT COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS INJURY POSSIBLY EVEN THE DEATH OF THE RIDER. THIS IS AND ONGOING PROBLEM THAT IS COSTING CONSUMERS MONEY AND RISKING INJURY TO TO ANYONE WHO HAPPENS TO BE IN THE WRONG PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME. FORD MOTOR COMPANY KNOWS ABOUT THE DEFECT YET REFUSES TO ACT. I FEEL THAT THEY ARE INTENTIONALLY PUTTING MOTORISTS AT RISK BY THEIR COMPLACENCY ON THE PROBLEM.
THE SEAT BELT SIGN KEEPS COMING ON. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES. THEY HAVE CORRECTED "THE PROBLEM" ALL 3 TIMES AND THE NEXT DAY THE LIGHT IS BACK ON. EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE THE SEAT BELT SIGN TURNS OFF BUT COMES BACK ON WITHIN A COUPLE OF DAYS.
WHEN EXCELERATING ON OPEN ROAD SMELLING FUMES COMING THROUGH AIR CONDITION VENTS , AC ON! MORE RPMS THAN SLOW SPEED!
WHEN WE FIRST BOUGHT THE EXPLORER IN 2012 THE STEERING QUIT WORKING ON A HILL AND MY WIFE CRASHED INTO A BANK AND A CONCRETE LIGHT POLE. NEVER WAS PAID BACK FOR OUR INSURANCE DEDUCTIBLE PLUS NOW WE HAVE A WRECK CAR NOT WORTH NOTHING EVEN THOUGHT IT WAS REPAIRED. FORD DID THERE UPDATE RECALL TO THE STEERING. ALL HAS BEEN FINE TILL APRIL 2016. TWICE IT HAS SHOWED A STEERING ASSIST FAULT AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULDN'T MOVE. LUCKILY IT WAS IN THE DRIVEWAY. FORD CAN'T LOOK AT IT FOR A WEEK SO IT SITS IN OUR DRIVEWAY MY WIFE IS SCARED TO DRIVE IT AGAIN AND I DON'T BLAME HER. SO HERE WE ARE AGAIN SAME PROBLEM WHICH WAS SUPOSABLEY FIXED
THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE ASSEMBLY / SPRING CAME APART AND THE HANDLE REMAINED STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION AS A SMALL PIECE OF BLACK PLASTIC FROM BEHIND THE HANDLE MOLDING BECAME WEDGED BETWEEN THE DOOR INTERIOR AND THE HANDLE ITSELF (LEAVING IT PROPPED IN THE 'OPEN' POSITION)
WHEN STEPPING ON THE BRAKES, I COULD FEEL AND HEAR A DRAG. CAR HAS 17,400 MILES, RIGHT REAR PADS WERE METAL TO METAL AND CUT INTO THE ROTOR. RR BRAKE PADS WERE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO REMOVE, INDICATING THE PADS WERE SEIZED INTO THE BRACKET. THIS WORDING IS TAKEN FROM THE FORD SERVICE REPAIR INVOICE. I HAVE HAD MANY CARS AND NEVER HAD TO REPLACE BRAKES AT A LOW MILEAGE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO.
I FIRST REPORTED AN INCIDENT WITH THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING ON MARCH 24. I WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED BY THE DEALER BY REPLACING MY BATTERY? HERE IT IS 10 DAYS LATER AND ANOTHER POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE. VEHICLE WAS REMOTE STARTED FROM INSIDE OUR HOME. 5 OR MORE MINUTES LATER MY WIFE GOT IN THE TRUCK TO FIND NO POWER STEERING AND THE "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" ERROR MESSAGE ON THE DASH.
CAR SPUTTERS AND HESITATES WHEN ORANGE WRENCH COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY WHILE IN MOTION.
MY WIFE FIRST TOLD ME SHE THOUGHT SHE HAD A FLAT IN THE FRONT TIRE BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS PULLING BACK AND FORTH. SHE STOPPED TO CHECK, NO FLATS. RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND ALL WAS GOOD. LATER THAT WEEK WHILE DRIVING HER DASHBOARD LIGHTS BLINKED INCLUDING THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS. (SHE WASN'T SURE WHAT OTHER LIGHTS ILLUMINATED) AT THE SAME TIME THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE SOFTWARE FIX HAD ALREADY BEEN DONE FOR RECALL 14S06 LAST AUGUST. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE BATTERY DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH CHARGE TO RUN DIAGNOSTICS? THERE WAS NEVER ANY SIGN OF A WEAK BATTERY. I HAD NO RECOURSE BUT TO HAVE THEM CHANGE IT. AFTER INSTALLING THE NEW ONE I WAS TOLD NO CODES ARE PRESENT THAT WOULD WARRENT ANY ADDITIONAL SERVICE. I AM NOT CONFIDENT AT ALL THAT THIS VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE.
THERE IS A LEAK SOMEWHERE AROUND THE REAR WINDOW/ DOOR OR TOP. EVERYTIME IT RAINS, WATER ENTERS THE CAR POURING DOWN THE 3RD ROW SEATBELT. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES.
YOU CAN SMELL EXHAUST FUMES IN THE CAB OF VEHICLE, AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES OF DRIVING I GET A HEADACHE AND DIZZY AND HAVE TO ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN FOR THE DIZZINESS TO GO AWAY. SOUNDS LIKE A SIMPLE FIX HOWEVER WHEN ITS 8 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND YOU HAVE CHILDREN YOU CANT REALLY BE ROLLING THE WINDOWS DOWN. SINCE HAVING THIS VEHICLE I HAVE GONE TO THE HOSPITAL/DOCTORS MULTIPLE TIMES FOR FATIGUE AND HEADACHES TO WHICH I HAVE HAD TO GET TREATMENT. I USED TO SPEND MY LUNCH HOUR AT WORK IN MY VEHICLE AND NOW I CANT DO THIS BECAUSE I WILL GET NAUSEOUS AND FEEL LIKE I AM GOING TO FAINT. I AM SCARED TO BE TRANSPORTING MY CHILDREN IN MY VEHICLE DUE TO THIS NOW. AFTER LOOKING INTO WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH MY CAR I FOUND MANY MORE PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD THESE ISSUES AND I'M CURIOUS AS TO WHY FORD HASN'T ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS YET TO GET THIS FIXED. I AM HOPING THIS HELPS FORD REALIZE THAT SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. MOST PEOPLE WITH THESE SUVS ARE PARENTS WITH KIDS. NOT SURE HOW FORD CAN FEEL OKAY WITH THEMSELVES OVER PUTTING CHILDREN IN THE SITUATION OF INHALING CARBON MONOXIDE. IF IT WAS AN OPTION FOR US I WOULD PURCHASE A NEW VEHICLE BUT UNFORTUNATELY THAT'S NOT FINANCIALLY AN OPTION AT THIS MOMENT. I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE IN MARCH OF 2016.
THERE ARE WATER LEAKS ON THE HATCHBACK ON BOTH SIDES AND IT WAS DETERMINED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THERE IS A WATER LEAK IN THE RIGHT REAR BODY SEAM..OTHER LEAKS COULD BE POSSIBLE.WHEN IT RAINS THE WHEEL WELL HAS 3 INCHES OF WATER IN IT. WE HAD TO REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE AND THE MOLD IS MAKING ME SICK..IT'S A OVERWHELMING SMELL AND IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE WITH NO SPARE

THIS VEHICLE LEAKS WATER IN THE WHEEL WELL WHEN IT RAINS AND HAS CASED THE CARPET TO MOLD...THERE ARE CRACKS IN THE REAR HATCHBACK AND UNDER THE LUGGAGE RACK AND THE RIGHT REAR WINDOW HAS A STREAM OF WATER GOING IN THE REAR DOWN THE SEAT BELT CANNOT HAVE THE SPEAR TIRE IN THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT HAS TO HAVE A TOWEL THERE TO SOAK UP THE WATER..MOLD MAKES ME SICK TO DRIVE IT..
REPEATED ISSUE WITH MALFUNCTIONING TCM. WENT INTO DEFAULT MODE WHILE DRIVING ON STATE HIGHWAY. REPAIRS MADE BUT HAVE SINCE TAKEN VEHICLE IN AGAIN FOR SAME SERVICE ISSUE AND IS SCHEDULED FOR A THIRD REPAIR. I KNOW THE 2012 FOCUS, FIESTA AND EXPEDITION HAVE CLASS ACTION SUITS DUE TO TCM. DEALER HAS TWICE TOLD ME VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE IN IT'S CURRENT STATE SINCE SERVICE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ARE NOT FLASHING IN DEFAULT MODE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HEAT AND AIR CONDITIONER CALIBRATIONS NEEDED TO BE UPDATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE FUMES IN THE VEHICLE AFFECTING HER CHILDREN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 36,000.
WHILE ON FREEWAY, CAR SUDDENLY DECREASED SPEED EVEN THOUGH I WAS PRESSING ON THE PEDAL TO EXCELERATE. IT HAS HAPPENED A FEW MORE TIMES BUT LUCKILY I WAS NOT ON FREEWAY. TOOK IT IN TO MAC HAICK AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. MY CAR HAS LESS THAN 30,000 MILES AND I ASKED IF THIS WAS COMMON AND WAS TOLD NO. HE SAID THAT SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS WITH MORE THAT 60,000. I ASKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL AND WAS TOLD NO. I THEN CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE, THE REP SAID THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY RECALLS AND GAVE ME A CASE #8559890.
THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IS CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM AT HTTP://WWW.EXPLORERFORUM.COM/FORUMS/INDEX.PHP?THREADS/AIR-BAG-LIGHT-SEAT-BELT-WARNING.349429/ THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM AMONG ALL OF THE FIFTH GENERATION FORD EXPLORERS. ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS UNDER THE SEATS THAT RUN TO THE SEAT WEIGHT SENSORS ARE HAVING CONTINUITY ISSUES AND CAUSING AIRBAGS TO NOT DEPLOY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST SUDDENLY FAILED AND CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO BECOME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INDICATED THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS FAULTY. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED IN 2013, BUT THE FAILURE STILL OCCURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE PILLAR BLEW OFF MY VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEED ON I-75 (70 MPH). IT JUST MISSED A CAR THAT WAS FOLLOWING ME. THE PLATE THAT HOLDS THE PILLAR ON THE FRAME, SHOWS STRESS CRACKING AT EACH BOLT AND THE LOWER TWO TABS THAT CONNECT THE PILLAR ARE SHEARED. THE TABS AT THE TOP OF THE PILLAR PULLED OUT COMPLETELY. I HAD TAKEN THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE NOISE THE WIND NOISE COMING FROM THE SIDES OF THE WINDSHIELD. THEY SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T DETERMINE THE PROBLEM AND ADVISED ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE PILLAR ASSEMBLY REPLACED IF I WANTED TO GET RID OF THE NOISE. THEY DID NOT REMOVE THE PILLAR TO INSPECT ANYTHING, LIKELY KNOWING THEY WOULD DAMAGE IT.
THERE'S BEEN A SMELL EACH TIME I WOULD GO IN MY TRUCK AND IT WOULD GIVE ME A HEADACHE. DURING THIS TIME I WAS PREGNANT. I RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT IT'S BEEN THE EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING THE VEHICLE. I HAVE NOT BEEN USING MY TRUCK AND I CAN'T DRIVE MY 1 MONTH OLD BABY IN THIS CAR. THIS HAS NOT BEEN THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THE TRUCK IT HAS BEEN SHAKING AND SHUTS OFF. I'VE ALREADY TAKEN IT TO GET REPAIRED BUT IT STILL SHAKES. I'M CONCERNED ABOUT THE FUMES COMING INTO THE CAR. IT DEFINITELY IDN'T SAFE FOR ME TO HAVE MY BABY RIDE IN. I CAN'T BELIEVE I USED THIS TRUCK DURING MY PREGNANCY THINKING IT WAS JUST ME BUT SEEING IT ON THE NEWS MADE ME REALIZE SOMETHING HAS BEEN WRONG WITH THE TRUCK THE WHOLE TIME.
WHILE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT, CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO VEER INTO A BRICK MAILBOX AND DITCH. RESULTING IN MAJOR DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE AND MAILBOX. ALSO CAUSING INJURY TO MY RIGHT ARM AND SHOULDER.
VEHICLE HAS AN ILLUMINATED AIRBAG SERVICE LIGHT SUPPOSEDLY DUE TO A MALFUNCTION IN TO ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS OF THE AIRBAG SYSTEM OR A FAULTY DRIVERS SEATBELT TENSIONER. APPARENTLY THIS WILL RESULT IN THE AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYING DURING A CRASH. FORD DEALERS HAVE SERVICED OTHER PARTIES EXPLORER'S WITH THE ISSUE BY CHECKING ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS AND ADDING DIELECTRIC GREASE OR BY REPLACING THE DRIVER'S SEATBELT TENSIONER. THIS REPAIRS USUALLY RESULT IN UPWARDS ON 5 HOURS OF LABOR PLUS PARTS WHICH THE OWNERS WERE CHARGED. THESE FIXES ARE ONLY TEMPORARY AS THE PROBLEM TYPICALLY RETURNS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE RESULTING FROM POOR MANUFACTURING OR INSTALLATION OF PARTS AND NUMEROUS EXPLORERS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 2012 AND 2016 ARE EXPERIENCING IT. OWNERS SHOULD NOT BE CHARGED FOR THE INCOMPETENCE OF MANUFACTURING PROCESSES OR LACK OF PLANNING ESPECIALLY WHEN THE PROBLEM IS SAFETY RELATED.
THERE WEEKS AFTER THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED THE LH A-PILLAR FLEW OFF THE CAR WHILE MOVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR WAS MOVING AT 65 MPH.
NOVEMBER 13, 2015 CAROLINA, PUERTO RICO I'M DRIVING NORMALLY THEN A WRENCH LIGHT POPS UP ON THE DASH & SAYS "SEE SERVICE MANUAL". I THEN IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT WARNING LOOSE ALL CONTROL TO MY GAS PEDAL & THE ENGINE SHAKES AT AN IDLE. I AM FORCED TO PULL OVER. WE RETURN HOME LESS 10 MILE PER HOUR, THEN TURN THE CAR OFF. ONCE I TURN IT BACK ON IT "WARNINGS 0" IN SOME WAY & RUNS NORMALLY.
ON 6/29/15 WHILE DRIVING TO WORK AT ABOUT 40 MPH THE AWD OFF LIGHT CAME ON WITH A WRENCH ON MY 2012 FORD EXPLORER, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECREASED IN SPEED TO LESS THAN 5 MPH. PULLED OVER TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF & THEN TURNED BACK ON. COMPUTER SEEMED TO RESET ITSELF. TOOK VEHICLE TO FORD & SAID THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEN AGAIN TONIGHT (11/9/15) ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK, AGAIN GOING ABOUT 40 MPH, THE AWD OFF LIGHT WITH THE WRENCH CAME ON AGAIN. SPEED IMMEDIATELY DROPPED TO LESS THAN 5 MPH & VEHICLE MADE GRINDING NOISES. PULLED OVER, TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF & TURNED BACK ON. COMPUTER RESET ITSELF AGAIN & IMMEDIATELY DROVE IT TO FORD. THE ONLY MESSAGE THEY COULD FIND WAS A CODE FOR LOSS OF COMMUNICATION TO BCM. WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE RUNNING, CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE & HAVE THEM TOW IT IN WHILE STILL RUNNING. I LIVE IN A RURAL AREA THAT DOES NOT HAVE MANY PLACES TO PULL OVER WHEN YOUR VEHICLE BREAKS DOWN AND I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE COMPUTER SYSTEMS MEMORY DOES NOT TRACK THESE MESSAGES. I GUESS IT WILL TAKE A FATALITY BEFORE FORD RECTIFIES THE PROBLEM.
I'M DRIVING NORMALLY THEN RANDOMLY A WRENCH LIGHT POPS UP ON THE DASH & SAYS "SEE SERVICE MANUAL". I THEN IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT WARNING LOOSE ALL CONTROL TO MY GAS PEDAL & THE ENGINE SHAKES AT AN IDLE. I AM FORCED TO PULL OVER (MIND YOU WITH MY 2 KIDS IN THE CAR WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN 1 MONTH). THEN TURN THE CAR OFF. ONCE I TURN IT BACK ON IT "RESETS" IN SOME WAY & RUNS NORMALLY (UNTIL THIS HAPPENS AGAIN). THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS 3 WEEKS AGO ON A WEEKEND LATE MORNING DRIVING MAYBE 45MPH, THE 2ND TIME WAS THIS PAST TUESDAY 11/2/15 IN THE EVENING AFTER WORK AT 5:15PM DRIVING MAY 35MPH. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID IT WAS "FIXED" & THEY SENT ME ON MY WAY. THEN IT HAPPENED THE 3RD TIME THE NEXT MORNING ON 11/3/15 @ 7:30AM WHEN I WAS STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN SO I WASN'T GOING MORE THAN 5MPH. IT'S BEEN BACK AT FORD SINCE THEN & THEY SAID THEY "CAN'T FIX IT IF IT DOESN'T SHOW UP FOR THEM OR THE CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM" MEANWHILE MYSELF & I HAVE NO VEHICLE TO SCHOOL & WORK. & THE WORST PART IS ALL TREE TIMES MY KIDS WERE WITH ME & THERE COULD'VE BEEN AN ACCIDENT BUT FORD WON'T DO ANYTHING.
ISSUE HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES, UNDER DIFFERENT CONDITIONS. WITHOUT WARNING, THE VEHICLE LOSES ACCELERATION AND THE WRENCH ICON AND AWD ERRORS DISPLAY. THE THROTTLE BECOMES UNRESPONSIVE, BUT ALL OTHER SYSTEMS REMAIN FUNCTIONING. IF YOU LEAVE IT IN GEAR WITHOUT THE BRAKES ENGAGED, IT WILL MOVE AT IDLE SPEED ON FLAT GROUND, BUT IS UNABLE TO NAVIGATE INCLINES. WHEN SLOWING TO A STOP, THE WHOLE VEHICLE SHUDDERS. STOPPING AND RESTARTING NORMALLY RETURNS THE VEHICLE TO NORMAL OPERATION. HOWEVER, ON OCTOBER 25, IT FAILED TO START AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THERE IS NO EXTERNAL INDICATION OF THIS SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND IT CREATES A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE IT HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING AND YOU ARE ONLY ABLE TO STEER AND BRAKE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. OUR 2012 EXPLORER IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP, WHO HAS INDICATED THAT THE PROBLEM IS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY (ETB) AND PURGE VALVE. FORD IS AWARE THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH ETBS WITH OTHER MODELS, REFERENCE NHTSA ACTION # PE13003, AND EXPLORERS, REFERENCE NHTSA #10054323 AND 10053276, FORD TSB # TSB-13-9-8 AND TSB-13-5-29. DESCRIPTION: LINCOLN/FORD: DUE TO DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTC) P0106, P0236, ENGINE ON SOME VEHICLES EXPERIENCE HESITATION, LOSS OF IDLE RPM, DIFFICULT IN STARTING, LACK OF POWER, RUNNING ROUGH AND CRANK NO START SITUATION. DESCRIPTION: FORD: DUE TO BLOCKED VAPOR PURGE LINE PORT IN AIR CLEANER OUTLET PIPE ASSEMBLY, THE MIL WOULD ILLUMINATE, WITH DTC P144C.
EXHAUST ODORS IN THE OCCUPANT COMPARTMENT AND OIL IN THE AIR FILTER
AIR BAG CONNECTOR CORROSION. MULTIPLE CONNECTORS. HAS HAPPENED EVERY YEAR SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN OCT, 2012. IT HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIR MULTIPLE TIMES YEARLY. HAS TO GO BACK AGAIN DUE TO INSPECTION DUE. THIS HAPPENS WHETHER THE VEHICLE IS MOVING, STATIONARY OR PARKED.
THIS HAPPENED THREE TIMES AT SPEEDS OF 40, 50 AND 60 MPH, ON HIGHWAY, VEH. ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND VEH. COMES TO A STOP. THE ENGINE IS STILL IDLING BUT THE GAS PETAL DOES NOT WORK. THERE IS NO WARNING, THE VEH. JUST COMES TO A STOP.I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE BEEN ON RURAL TWO LANE ROADS SO I COULD PULL OF ROAD. IF YOU WERE ON A MULTI LANE HIGHWAY YOU WOULD BE IN BIG TROUBLE, BECAUSE VEH. COMES TO A STOP AND YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OF THE SPEED. THE FIRST PROBLEM, SWITCHED OFF VEH. RESTATED, NO ENGINE LIGHT AND EVERYTHING WORKED, TOOK VEH. TO FORD, THEY CHECK IT OUT, COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM. THE VEH. WORKED FINE FOR ABOUT 6000 MORE THOUSAND MILES, THEN AT 60 MPH IT CUT OFF AGAIN, I GOT OFF ROAD, RESTARTED VEH. ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON BUT GAS PETAL WORKED. I DROVE ABOUT TWO MORE MILES AND VEH. CUT OF AGAIN, ENGINE IDLING GAS PETAL NOT WORKING. RESTARTED VEH. ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON BUT GAS PETAL WAS WORKING. I DROVE VEH. TO FORD DEALER, THEY NOW SAID THE PROBLEM WAS THE THROTTLE MODULE. FORD SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THIS MODULE, SO I PAID OVER $600 FOR THE REPAIR WORK. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL OR SOMETHING TO WARN FORD EXPLORER OWNERS THIS COULD HAPPEN TO THEM. I WOULD THINK, I AM NOT THE ONLY EXPLORER OWNERS TO HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM.
IN 2015, FORD CHARGED ME MORE THAN $700 TO MAKE THE REPAIRS NECESSARY TO ELIMINATE EXHAUST FUMES IN THE CAR. THEY HAD A KNOWN FIX AT THAT TIME, BUT STILL CHARGED ME FOR THE REPAIR.
WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, EXHAUST FUMES IN MY CAR NEARLY PUT ME TO SLEEP. I TOOK IT TO MY FORD DEALERSHIP TO FIND THE PROBLEM, AND LEARNED THAT FORD HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE, SO THEY HAVE BEEN AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SAFETY RELATED RECALL, BUT INSTEAD I MUST PAY $885.00 TO REPAIR THIS KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE.

DEALER(S) REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE ISSUE OR REPAIR DESPITE CUSTOMER COMPLAINT AND TRANSMISSION FAULT CODE. VEHICLE STALLS WHILE AT ALL SPEEDS ON HIGHWAY, CITY STREETS, OR WHILE IN INTERSECTIONS. TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE
STRONG EXHAUST (BURNING OIL SMELL) COMING INTO CABIN UNDER MEDIUM TO HIGH ACCELERATION THROUGH VENTILATION ( AC ON) . THE SMELL PERMEATES THE CAR AND BURNS YOUR NOSTRILS. I COULD SMELL IT FOR QUITE SOME TIME EVEN AFTER EXISTING THE VEHICLE (AS THE SMELL REMAINS IN MY NOSE). EVEN FELT A BIT LIGHTHEADED AFTER EXISTING THE VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD PASSENGERS NOTICE THIS SMELL ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS ALSO.
MY 2012 FORD EXPLORER LEAKS FROM THE 3RD ROW SEATBELT. IT HAS RUINED THE CARPET IN THE BACK AND MOLDED IT. IT ALSO FILLED UP THE SPARE TIRE AREA WITH WATER AND RUSTED THE RIM OF THE SPARE TIRE AND THE INSIDE WHERE THE TIRE SITS. I DID NOT NOTICE THIS UNTIL MANY MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE I WASN'T USING THE 3RD ROW AT THE TIME.
AS I WAS BREAKING TO TURN LEFT AT A STREET LIGHT MY CAR STARTED TO SHAKE, WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STALLED. I TOOK IT TO JORDAN FORD IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ERROR MESSAGE AND NOTICED A CARBON BUILD UP AND RECOMMENDED CLEANING. ALMOST $500 TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT MAY NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I NOTICED OTHER COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE THAT HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE AND I'M VERY WORRIED. I DRIVE MY CHILDREN IN THIS CAR. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THERE AREN'T ANY RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE.
