TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE MAKING LEFT OR RIGHT TURNS, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO INSPECT AND DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
BEGAN EXPERIENCING SOME LIGHT BINDING IN STEERING WHILE DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEED. EXERCISED THE STEERING BACK A FORTH A LITTLE. ADVANCETRAC STABILITY CONTROL WAS TURNED OFF BY THE VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM AND STEERING SERVICE WARNING APPEARED ON THE DASH. VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER. VEHICLES FROM MY MODEL YEAR WERE RECALLED FOR STEERING GEAR FAILURE (14S06), BUT MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED AFTER THE RELEVANT DATE. FORD IS MAKING ME PAY FOR THE REPAIR (NEW STEERING RACK) FOR $1520 (PARTS AND LABOR).
IT'S MAKING REAL LOUD NOISE. TRYS TO PULL THE CAR OFF THE ROAD. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS, UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
WINDSHIELD TRIM FLEW OFF. PASSENGER SIDE AT 42,000 DRIVER SIDE AT 53,000 MILES.
DRIVING 80 MPH ON THE TURNPIKE AND STEERING BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT TO MANUVEUR. IF THE STEERING WOULD'VE FROZE, IT COULD'VE RESULTED IN A FATAL CRASH GOING 80 MPH. TAKE TO DEALERSHIP AND IT NEEDS A NEW POWER STEERING RACK WHICH COSTS $1,800. IT APPEARS CERTAIN VINS FOR MY YEAR, MAKE, MODEL WERE RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE BUT MY WAS NOT AND IS NOT ELIGIBLE BUT IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED BY FORD.
THE VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING RUBBING/GRINDING NOISES WHEN STEERED (BOTH DIRECTIONS) IN NORMAL OPERATION. THIS WAS ACCOMPANIED BY SLUGGISH STEERING. AT ONE POINT THE WARNING LIGHTS INDICATED THAT THE STEERING SYSTEM REQUIRED SERVICE "NOW!". UPON PULLING OVER AND STOPPING, THE STEERING LOCKED UP, MAKING THE VEHICLE UNABLE TO DRIVE. MY FORD SERVICE TECH ADVISED THAT THE STEERING GEAR BOX WAS "BAD". THEY REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE PART AT THE EXPENSE (TO ME) OF $1,700.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL EXHAUST ODOR IN THE VEHICLE. UPON ACTIVATING THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT, THE EXHAUST ODOR BECAME STRONGER AND SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND THE SUV WAS HARD TO STEER. THIS HAPPENED WHEN I FIRST STARTED THE VEHICLE. THE FORD DEALER SAID THAT IT WAS THE RACK AND PINION AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED IN THE NEAR FUTURE. I HAVE SEEN A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM ON A LOT OF 2013 FORD EXPLORERS BUT THE DEALER SAID THAT MINE WAS NOT ONE ON RECALL. I BELIEVE IT NEEDS TO BE BECAUSE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND EVIDENTLY A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE FORD EXPLORER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE COST TO REPLACE IT WAS $1800. THE DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM ON THE RECALL FITS EXACTLY TO THE PROBLEM THIS VEHICLE IS HAVING.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER WHEN I WENT TO MAKE A TURN AND THE WHEEL FROZE WITHOUT WARNING. THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILED AND I WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE STEERING RACK AND IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.
WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVING HOME, I GOT A YELLOW CAUTION MESSAGE TO SERVICE THE POWER STEERING SOON. I EXITED THE HIGHWAY TO MAKE A REST STOP AND WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE AGAIN, THE SAME MESSAGE POPPED UP, FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY A RED WARNING MESSAGE TO SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW. VEHICLE HAD NO POWER STEERING ON THE REMAINING DRIVE HOME.
THERE IS A CONSISTENT SMELL OF SULFUR OR GAS COMING INTO THE CAR THROUGH THE VENTS. I WAS LIGHT HEADED AND DIZZY WHILE DRIVING. STOPPED AND ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN. THIS WAS NOT JUST ONCE BUT FORD IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM. I SEARCHED FOR RECALLS AND THEY SAID THERE IS NO RECALL ON MY FORD EXPLORER FOR THIS ISSUES. PLEASE ADVISE AS TO WHAT I AM TO DO?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND EXCESSIVE FORCE ON THE STEERING WHEEL WAS REQUIRED IN ORDER TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000. UPDATED 06/13/17 *BF *AS
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while having the windshield replaced, the A-pillars on both sides of the windshield were cracked. The contact paid out of pocket for the A-pillar replacements. The contact stated that after a while one of the A-pillar trim detached and flew off while driving and the other A-pillar trim was cracked. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where both A-pillar trims were replaced again out of pocket. The contact then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V031000 (Structure) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact called another dealer a year later and was informed that parts were available and that the part was being held to have the recall repair performed. The contact arrived for the appointment and was informed that parts were not available and that the recall was being performed on a first come, first serve basis. Once the contact expressed frustrations with the dealer, the contact and the agreed to leave the vehicle with the dealer. The contact received a call from the dealer that only the passenger’s side A-pillar trim could be replaced. The contact was instructed to retrieve the vehicle. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER DURING ACCELERATION I NOTICED THE SMELL OF EXHAUST IN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. ABOUT THAT SAME TIME I STARTED TO FEEL DIZZY AND NAUSEOUS. I HAVE MADE A COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS MATTER IN THE PAST WITH NHTSA AND HAVE YET TO RECEIVE ANY FEED BACK FOR THIS MATTER.
SINCE PURCHASING OUR FORD EXPLORER NEW EXHAUST FUMES FILL THE CABIN WHEN ACCELERATING (INCREASE IN RPM). AFTER LONG TRIPS CAUSES HEADACHES AND DIZZINESS. IT'S BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR 4 YEARS. WE HAVE HAD THE FORD SERVICE BULLETINS FOR THIS ISSUE PERFORMED AND PROBLEM REMAINS.
THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT IN THE SECOND ROW REFUSED TO LATCH WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY OR IN MOTION. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER OUR WARRANTY. THE SUN/MOON ROOF HAS LEAKED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS CAUSING ME TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR REPAIRS. THE REPAIR SHOP INDICATED THAT WE SHOULD BLOW AIR INTO THE TUBES TO KEEP THEM CLEAR EVEN THOUGH WE ALWAYS PARK IN THE GARAGE AND AT WORK THERE ARE NO TREES AROUND THE PARKING LOT TO HAVE ANYTHING BE ABLE TO GET INTO THE DRAIN TUBES. I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL VEHICLES WITH SUN ROOFS AND NEVER HAD THEM LEAK OR NEED TO BE BLOWN OUT EVEN WHEN THEY WERE STORED 100%V OUTSIDE. AGAIN NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH WE HAD LESS THAN 40K MILES AND A FORD CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED WARRANTY. THIS IS A BAD DESIGN AND SHOULD BE A RECALL. THE SUN ROOF WAS STUCK OPEN ON 3 OCCASIONS. THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW TRIM PILLAR FLEW OFF WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY AND HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE IT REPLACED AT THE DEALERSHIP. IT IS NOW COMING LOOSE AGAIN AND I DO NOT EXPECT IT TO LAST MUCH LONGER WITH HOW LOOSE IT IS. IT IS A DANGER TO ANYONE DRIVING BEHIND ME AS IT COULD FLY OFF AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS A BAD DESIGN AND SHOULD BE A RECALL. THESE EVENTS HAPPENED OVER MULTIPLE DATES BUT WE WERE NOT AWARE OF A WAY TO COMPLAIN ABOUT ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS AS WE WERE TOLD THEY WERE NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY.
STRONG PROPANE GAS SMELL WHILE DRIVING.
WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE USED AND WITH 48 HOURS NOTICED AN EXHAUST SMELL INSIDE CABIN WHEN SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR STOP SIGN.
VEHICLE HAS BECOME HARD TO STEER & TAKES EXTRA EFFORT. WAS DIAGNOSED BY FORD DEALER AS HAVING A FAULTY ELECTRICAL COMPONENT IN THE STEERING RACK. FORD SERVICE MANAGER STATED THE STEERING CAN COMPLETELY LOCK UP WHILE VEHICLE IS MOVING IF STEERING RACK NOT REPLACED. STEERING RACK MUST BE REPLACED AT APPROX. COST OF $1500.
THE SULFUR/SITTING EGG SMELL FROM THE EXHAUST SYSTEM HAS BECOME SO STRONG THAT ITS WAS GIVING ME HEAD ACHES AND MAKING ME FEEL SICK THAT I HAD TO TRADE THE VEHICLE IN AND TAKE A VERY BIG LOSS ON IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. AFTER THE CONTACT RETRIEVED THE VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER FOR REPAIRING AN EXHAUST ODOR INSIDE THE CABIN, THE FAILURE STILL OCCURRED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE SECOND STEP OF THE REPAIR PROCESS NEEDED TO BE PERFORMED BECAUSE THE FIRST STEP FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,216.
THE RIGHT SIDE PASSENGER WINDSHIELD MOULDING FLEW OFF OF MY CAR WHEN I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY I BELIEVE- HEARD A SOUND BUT DID NOT REALIZE WHAT HAPPENED. THIS IS NOT A WEAR AND TEAR ITEM. THERE IS NOW DAMAGE TO THE SIDE DOOR WHERE IT HIT THE CAR. I WAS TOLD BY THE FORD DEALER THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THEY HAVE SEEN HAPPEN BUT FORD HAS NOT DONE A RECALL. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE DANGER OF THIS PART FLYING OFF A CAR.
THE WINDSHIELD TRIM ON MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER FLEW OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY MARCH 4TH. THE NEXT DAY, THE RIGHT/PASSENGER SIDE FLEW OFF AS WELL. NEITHER TIME WAS I HIT OR HIT ANYTHING. MANY PEOPLE HAVE FILED COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING TO THEIR EXPLORER, YET FORD TRIED TO CHARGE ME $700 FOR REPAIRS. I DO NOT BELIEVE I AM LIABLE FOR THIS AND I ALSO BELIEVE AN INCIDENT LIKE THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS DAMAGE AND/OR HURT ANOTHER DRIVER IF THEY HAD BEEN BEHIND ME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO USE THE STEERING WHEEL. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING RACK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
SMELLS LIKE EXHAUST FUMES INSIDE CAR WHILE DRIVING OR IDLING SITTING STILL. ON TWO OCCASIONS I HAD TO STOP AND GET OUT OF THE CAR BECAUSE I FELT TIRED AND SLEEPY. MOST OF THE TIME I CAN'T SMELL ANYTHING BUT MY EYES BURN AND I FEEL DIZZY AND LIGHTHEADED WHEN I GET OUT OF THE CAR AFTER DRIVING. I HAD SOMEONE CHECK THE EXHAUST MUFFLER ETC. DID NOT FINDS ANYTHING. I CALLED A FORD DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM THEY DID ADMIT THEY HAD HEARD OF THE PROBLEM. I AM TAKING IT IN NEXT WEEK TO CHECK IT OUT.
EXHAUST FUMES LEAKING INTO CABIN OF CAR ESPECIALLY WHEN ACCELERATING OR RUNNING A/C. CURRENTLY HAVE AN OPEN CASE WITH FORD BUT THEY ARE REFUSING TO FIX THIS ISSUE AT THEIR EXPENSE. THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURING OF THE CARE AND THEREFORE SHOULD NOT BE OUT OF MY POCKET TO DRIVE A SAFE VEHICLE. I HAVE TWO LITTLE KIDS WITH RESPIRATORY ISSUES AND NEED THIS ISSUE FIXED ASAP.

THE ODOR WAS ALSO NOTICED INSIDE THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT IT WAS THE CONTACT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED, AND THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 87,000.
2013 FORD EXPLORER XLT, FACTORY SEAMS NOT SEALED UNDER POWER LIFT GATE IN REAR CAUSED WATER LEAKING INTO THIRD ROW SEAT FROM SEATBELT, CARPET HAD MILDEW AND MSEATBELT WAS DRENCHED, TOOK TO FORD DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES WITHOUT RESOLVE AND HAD TO SELF PAY BECAUSE EXTENDED WARRANTY DID NOT COVER WATER LEAKS. WOULD NEVER HAVE NOTICED THIS FIRST OCCURRENCE IF I HAD NOT PURCHASED CUSTOM WEATHER TECH FLOOR MATS THROUGHOUT VEHICLE WHICH ALLOWED ME TO SEE THE POOLING OF WATER. HAD TO TELL THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHAT TO FIX AFTER ONLINE RESEARCH AND MULTIPLE FORUMS WITH SAME COMPLAINT. NOW HAS SEVERAL INCHES OF WATER LEAKING FROM RIGHT DRIVERS SIDE INTO FLOORBOARD, BELT SQUEALS WHEN ACCELERATING IN RAIN CAUSING LIGHTS TO DIM AND VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN. OBVIOUS MANUFACTURER DEFECT. MILDEW SMELL VERY STRONG COMING FROM AIR VENTS CAUSING HEADACHES WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE. THIS LEAK OCCURS AFTER AFTER EVERY RAINSTORM WHILE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND WILL LEAK INTO CABIN ONTO LEG WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN, LEAKAGE ENTRANCE POINT UNKNOWN, BUT EXITS INTO VEHICLE UNDER STEERING WHEEL. FORD CORPORATE CONTINUES TO BLOW ME OFF AND WANTS ME TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSIS WHICH I HAVE ALREADY DONE. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL WHICH FIXES ALL LEAK POINTS WITH PROPER SEAM SEALANT AND ALL CARPETS AND AIR SYSTEM IN VEHICLE BEING REPLACED AS MOLD CAUSES RESPIRATORY HEALTH ISSUES.
OXIDIZING ON FRONT OF HOOD CAUSING THE PAINT TO PEEL
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WAS EMITTING STRONG GASOLINE FUMES WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TOTAL LOSE OF STEERING IN 2013 FORD EXPLORER 2/26/17 WHILE DRIVING DOWN ROAD AT 55 MPH, NO WARNING LIGHTS. ENGINE STAYED ON BUT VEHICLE VEERED TO THE LEFT (YES WE WENT INTO THE MEDIAN) VEHICLE WAS MAKING NOISE (SITTING WHILE TURNING STEERING WHEEL) A FEW DAYS BEFORE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO FORD DEALER. I LOOKED UP THE RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE FOR THE ELECTRONIC STEERING, THERE WERE NONE LISTED.
WHEN VEHICLE IS UNDER ACCELERATION, THERE IS AN EXHAUST SMELL THROUGHOUT THE CABIN. FORD HAS ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THE ISSUE, BUT THE EXHAUST SMELL REMAINS UNDER ACCELERATION.
I HAVE HAD MY EXPLORER AT THE DEALERSHIP TWICE SINCE I PURCHASED IT REGARDS THE FRONT DRIVE SIDE BRAKES. THEY PUT ON A NEW ROTOR AND BRAKE. ISSUE IS STILL ON GOING. STILL MAKING A BAD SOUND ON THAT SIDE. ISSUE 2: WHEN EVER I ACCELERATE TO PASS OTHER CAR OR TO MERGE ONTO THE INTERSTATE THE EXHAUST SMELL WITHIN THE VEHICLE IS HORRIBLE. MY CHILDREN AND I HAVE BEEN SUFFERING FROM HORRIBLE HEADACHES. I HAVE A FEELING WE ARE BREATHING IN CARBON MONOXIDE. I WILL BE TAKING IT TO THE DEALER TOMORROW.
I SMELLED SULFUR THE DAY I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE. I AM 37 WEEKS PREGNANT, AND HAVE A TWO-YEAR-OLD. I FELT DIZZY UPON DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. THERE IS NO RETURN POLICY FOR OUR VEHICLE, DESPITE THE FACT THAT I BOUGHT
ON ACCELERATION THE INSIDE OF THE CABIN HAS AN EXHAUST SMELL. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN ACCELERATING, USUALLY MEDIUM TO HARD, AND THEN STOPS. THE EXHAUST FUMES ALWAY OCCUR DURING THIS TYPE OF ACCELERATION.
THERE HAS BEEN A STRONG ODOR OF GAS FUMES WITHIN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN MOTION EACH TIME OF THIS OCCURRENCE. THIS WOULD HAPPEN EITHER CITY OR HIGHWAY DRIVING. THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A SPECIFIC TIME OR SEASON. THE CAR DID GO THROUGH A RECALL THAT I THOUGHT WAS THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM PERSISTS AND HAS MADE US NAUSEOUS. I FEAR THAT THIS PROBLEM IS AFFECTING OUR HEALTH AND THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY.
CAR HAS SULFUR SMELL WHEN USING AIR CONDITIONING. I HAVE HAD MY CAR FOR 2 YEARS AND HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT PROBLEM AND APPARENTLY I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE.
I HAVE NOTICED A DISTINCT EXHAUST SMELL WITHIN THE CABIN OF MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS GOTTEN INCREASINGLY WORSE OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS. AT FIRST, I THOUGH IT WAS COMING FROM VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME, THEREFORE I CHANGED THE HEATING OR A/C TO CIRCULATION MODE BUT THE SMELL DID NOT GO AWAY. I NOTICED IT HAPPENING EVEN WHEN I WAS THE ONLY ONE ON THE ROAD WITH NO VEHICLES NEAR ME. MY 10 YEAR OLD SON AND I HAVE BOTH BEEN EXPERIENCING NAUSEA AND HEADACHES WHEN RIDING IN THE VEHICLE FOR MORE THAN A FEW MINUTES AND I FEEL THAT I HAVE FINALLY NARROWED IT DOWN TO THE EXHAUST FUMES INSIDE THE CAR. MY SON COMPLAINS OF FEELING SICK ALMOST EVERY TIME WE DRIVE ANY DISTANCE IN THE CAR. I ASSUMED IT WAS CAR SICKNESS BUT I TOO AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS ALONG WITH HEADACHES AND DIZZINESS. I HAVE HAD TO CONSISTENTLY ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS IN THE DEAD OF WINTER JUST TO TRY TO GET RID OF THE EXHAUST SMELL IN THE CAR. I FEEL THAT THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY CONCERN AND I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE FOR MYSELF OR ANY OF MY PASSENGERS TO TRAVEL MORE THAN A FEW MILES. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION, STATIONARY OR IDLING AND WITH AND WITHOUT THE HEAT AND A/C IN USE. THE DEALER CAN FIND NO HOLES OR DAMAGE TO MY EXHAUST SYSTEM. THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO RECALLS ON THIS PROBLEM BUT WHILE SEARCHING FOR SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FOR THIS PROBLEM ONLINE, I AM OVERWHELMED WITH THE AMOUNT OF INFORMATION FROM OTHER EXPLORER OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED BEFORE SOMEONE LOSES THEIR LIFE OR THEY OR THEIR CHILDREN ARE HOSPITALIZED FROM CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING FROM THE POISONOUS CABIN AIR.
WHEN UNDER HEAVY ACCELERATION WHICH IS RARE OR WHEN CLIMBING ANY INCLINE WHICH IS QUITE OFTEN WHERE I LIVE, THE CAR HAS A HORRIBLE SMELL INSIDE. ITS WORSE WHEN YOU HAVE THE HEAT ON IT SEEMS. I HAVE REPLACED THE CABIN AIR FILTER BUT IT NEARLY SEAMS WORSE NOW.
POWER STEERING FAULT MESSAGE AND COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING, WHILE BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY. VEHICLE HAS APPROX 46,800 MILES ON IT. VEHICLE EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER, AND LEFT ON STREET OVERNIGHT. WENT TO START NEXT DAY AND ERROR MESSAGE GONE. MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL INVOLVING THE POWER STEERING PROBLEM. I THINK THIS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO FURTHER. TO LOSE YOUR STEERING ON A HIGHWAY WOULD BE CATASTROPHIC.
THERE IS A STRONG EXHAUST ODOR THAT IN MY CAR. I AM UNABLE TO USE THE AC AND HEAT BECAUSE OF THE SIDE EFFECTS I GET. (MASSIVE HEADACHES, BLURRED VISION, NAUSEA). I JUST BOUGHT MY CAR IN DECEMBER 2016 AND I CONTACTED THE FORD COMPANY I BOUGHT MY CAR FROM AND THEY ARE UNAWARE OF THIS DEFECT. I AM SCARED TO PUT MY 7 MONTH OLD IN MY CAR AND WILL NOT PUT HER LIFE IN DANGER BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE.
WHEN MY CAR IS IN PARK AND RUNNING, IT FILLS WITH EXHAUST FUMES
MY HUSBAND AND I OWN A 2013 EXPLORER. SEVERAL WEEKS AGO WHEN MY HUSBAND WAS BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE AND DRIVEWAY, THE VEHICLE SLID INTO OUR STONE WALL AND COST US $250 AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY $1955,21. THAT WAS WHEN WE DISCOVERED THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE WAS NOT WORKING ON THE EXPLORER. WE TOOK IT TO MONTROSE MOTORS IN MONTROSE, PA AND WERE TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT RECEIVE A COMPUTER UPDATE. SUPPOSEDLY WITHOUT THAT UPDATE THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE WAS DISENGAGED. FOR THE COMPUTER TO BE UPDATED. FOR THE COMPUTER TO BE UPDATED IT COST US $37.10. WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED BY FORD THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN TO OUR VEHICLE. THIS ACCIDENT MAY NOW MAKE US LOSE OUR ACCIDENT FREE DISCOUNT AND INCREASE OUR PREMIUMS ALSO, IMAGINE IF WE WERE DRIVING ON THE ROAD IN A SNOW STORM AND THOUGHT WE HAD 4 WHEEL DRIVE. WE COULD HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT AND HURT OR KILLED SOMEONE OR OURSELVES. I REALLY THINK FORD WAS IRRESPONSIBLE FOR THIS ISSUE IF EXPLORER'S HAVE THIS PROBLEM. WE WERE GM BUYERS AND SWITCHED TO FORD, BUT I HAVE TO SAY I AM NOW DISAPPOINTED.
I PURCHASED MY USED 2013 FORD EXPLORER FROM KEN GARFF FORD IN ST. GEORGE UTAH IN FEBRUARY 2017. AT FIRST I NOTICED A SMELL, SIMILAR TO A PROPANE SMELL, COMING FROM THE HEATING SYSTEM. THEN I NOTICED IT WAS REALLY BAD WHEN THE CAR WAS IDLING. THEN IT GOT WORSE WHEN THE WEATHER WARMED UP AND I USED THE AIR CONDITIONING. WE HAD TO ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN TO AIR IT OUT. IT WAS MAKING ME SICK. IT SEEMS TO BE THE WORSE WHEN IT IS ACCELERATING AND WHEN IT IS IDLING. I TOOK IT TO KEN GARFF FORD IN ST. GEORGE UTAH AND THEY REPLACED SOME OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. THEY SAID THEY REPLACED THE SAME PARTS THAT THEY HAD REPLACED FOR THE ENTIRE LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPLORERS IN OUR COUNTY (WASHINGTON COUNTY, UT) IT COST ME OVER 500 DOLLARS. IT DID NOT FIX IT. IT SEEMED TO BE WORSE.THEY HAVE NOW ORDERED MORE PARTS AND SAID IT WILL COST ME OVER 500 DOLLARS AGAIN. THAT'S OVER $1,000 SO FAR. AND OVER THE LAST SIX MONTH I HAVE HAD HEADACHES ALMOST EVERY DAY. I AM KNOWN TO HAVE MIGRAINES BUT THIS IS NOW EXTREME. MY DOCTOR CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY I WAS NOW HAVING SO MANY HEADACHES AND MANY MORE MIGRAINES. NOW THAT I KNOW THE EXPLORER HAS FUME ISSUES I BELIEVE IT IS THE FUMES FROM THE CAR THAT ARE CAUSING THE HEADACHES AND MAKE ME FEEL SICK SO OFTEN. I FINALLY RESEARCHED ONLINE IF THE REPAIRS ARE WORKING AND IT SEEMS THAT FIXING IT THE WAY FORD HAS TOLD THE DEALERS TO FIX IT THAT THE RESPONSE IS THAT IT DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I AGREE HAVING PUT MONEY INTO IT ALREADY AND IT ACTUALLY SEEMS WORSE. I DO NOT WANT TO SINK MORE MONEY INTO IT AND I FEEL THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS IF THE REPAIRS DO WORK. ALSO MY JOB REQUIRES THAT I TRAVEL A LOT AND I USUALLY PUT OVER 20,000 A YEAR ON MY VEHICLES. I CAN NOT CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE CAR AND TO FEEL SO SICK WHEN I DO. PLEASE ADVICE. THANK YOU,
THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 15MPH AND STARTED TO MAKE A TURN WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE CAR JUMPED THE CURB AND CAME TO STOP. VEHICLE DASHBOARD SAID 'POWER STEERING FAILURE' THE VEHICLES IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF BY THE DRIVER AND THEN WAS RE-STARTED. THE POWER STEERING THEN CAME BACK AND WAS FUNCTIONING.
TRANSMISSION FAILED BADLY AT 50,982 MILES (UNDER WARRANTY STILL). BROUGHT IN FOR REPAIRS ON 1/31/17 AND PICKED UP ON EVENING OF 2/8. DEALERSHIP OVERHAULED TRANSMISSION REPLACING FRONT PUMP/TORQUE CONVERTER/CENTER SUPPORT AND SEALS/GASKETS. ON 2/9, AT 75 MPH ON INTERSTATE WITH SEMI-TRUCK BEHIND ME, TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY DROPPED GEARS AND RED-LINED TO 6500 RPMS, BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO RE-ENGAGE IT BY MANUALLY DROPPING TO THE M SETTING AND THEN UP TO NEUTRAL AND BACK TO DRIVE. LOST HORSEPOWER AND IF I HAD NOT THOUGHT TO TRY THE ABOVE OR PANICKED LIKE A LOT OF FOLKS WOULD DO, I WOULD HAVE BEEN RUN OVER BY THE SEMI-TRUCK AS I WAS QUICKLY LOSING SPEED. CALLED DEALERSHIP THAT NIGHT AND BROUGHT BACK TO THEM THE NEXT MORNING (2/10/17). THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG, REFUSED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AND GAVE BACK TO ME IN THE SAME CONDITION ON EVENING OF 2/27/17 (THOUGH RECEIPT IS DATED 2/25) ADVISING ME TO MONITOR IT AND CONTACT THEM IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN (PROVIDED I AM STILL ALIVE TO DO SO)!! I AM NOW DEATHLY AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE FOR FEAR IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN, AND THIS TIME I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET IT BACK IN GEAR BEFORE SOMETHING BAD OCCURS. AND A TRANSMISSION SHOULD NOT GO OUT AT 50,000 MILES TO BEGIN WITH!!
PAINT BUBBLES PUSHING UP ON HOOD
I WAS DRIVING DOWN HWY 146 AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDSHIELD PILLAR FLEW OFF. I TRIED TO PULL OVER AND FIND THE PIECE, BUT I WAS UNSUCCESSFUL.
CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM. THERE IS A PUNGENT ODOR COMING FROM THE SYSTEM AT VARIOUS TIMES, USUALLY WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS OPERATING. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE AND THE SOURCE HAS NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED. THE ENGINE WILL BEGIN RUNNING ROUGH AT IDLE, BOTH IN DRIVE AND PARK, AS THOUGH IT WERE GOING TO STALL. THE PROBLEM WAS CHECKED AND COMPARED TO ANOTHER NEW VEHICLE, WHICH HAD NOT BEEN PURCHASED, AND IDENTIFIED AS BEING "NORMAL". MOST RECENTLY BOTH CATALYTIC CONVERTERS FAILED. THEY WERE REPLACED AND IT DOES NOT APPEAR TO HAVE CORRECTED ANY OTHER ISSUE.
