I HAD AN INCIDENT IN JULY 24, 2016 WHEN I CAME TO A STOP AT A HIGHWAY TOLL BOOTH THE VEHICLE STARTED STALLING THE LOW OIL PRESSURE MESSAGE CAME ON AND STALLED I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE THE MESSAGE WENT AWAY AND RAN NORMAL THOUGHT IT WAS A CLUTCH SO I LEFT IT ALIGN. CHECKED OIL LEVEL AND IT WAS NORMAL. WELL TODAY 10/06/2016 MY MOTHER IN LAW THE VEHICLE BELONGING TO HER WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY TO WHERE SPEED LIMIT IS 70MPH. TRAFFIC CAME TO A SLOW DOWN ALMOST A STOP VEHICLE DID THE SAME LOW OIL PRESSURE MESSAGE CAME ON AND STALLED WITH MY KIDS ON BOARD. SHE HAD TO PUT IN PARK AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY POSING DANGER TO OTHER MOTORIST AND MOST IMPORTANT MY FAMILY. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS TO SOMEONE THAT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED BY A RECALL AND FURTHER INVESTIGATION. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION. *TR
POWER STEERING GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING. 2013 FORD EXPLORER, 86,000 MILES. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AROUND A CURVE, GOING ABOUT 45 MILES PER HOUR ON A HIGHWAY, WHEN IT FIRST WENT OUT. THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED ITSELF BACK TO THE CENTER AND MY WIFE HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES AND FORCE THE WHEEL TO STEER SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE SCREEN SHOWS ATC NEEDS TO BE SERVICED. CODES SHOWN ARE : C1B00-STEERING ANGLE SENSOR U0131- LOST COMMUNICATION WITH POWER STEERING MODULE MY VEHICLE IS NOW UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THERE IS A RECALL FOR EARLIER MANUFACTURE DATES CONCERNING WHAT SEEMS TO BE THE SAME ISSUE.
BACK IN OCTOBER 2016 I MOVED MY EXPLORER IN MY DRIVE WAY EVERYTHING WAS FINE NEXT DAY COULDN'T DRIVE OR MOVE IT THE POWER ASSIST WAS BEEPING ON THE DASH STEERING WHEEL DON'T EVEN MOVE WHEELS DON'T MOVE .... $2000 AND UP TO FIX IT NOT EVERYONE CAN AFFORD THAT AND IT HAS TO BE TAKING TO A FORD DEALERSHIP!!SO IT STILL SITS IN MY DRIVE WAY TODAY I HAVE ASK FORD MOTOR TO HELP THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN .......
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 65-70 MPH I ACCELERATED TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE,AND SHORTLY AFTER PASSING, A STRONG SMELL OF EXHAUST FUMES OR GASOLINE ENTERED THE PASSENGER AREA. THIS HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR NEW IN 2013. I CALLED MY FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT A SERVICE BULLETIN HAS BEEN ISSUED TO FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT SINCE MY VEHICLE IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE FIX. AFTER CHECKING ON LINE,THIS IS EVIDENTLY A WIDE-SPREAD PROBLEM OF A SAFETY NATURE (MY WIFE HAS ASTHMA) AND ONE THAT IS INHERENT IN MANY EXPLORERS NATIONALLY, AND IF NOT CORRECTED AT FORD'S EXPENSE BY A SPECIAL WARRANTY EXCEPTION, THEN THE VEHICLES SHOULD BE REPAIRED UNDER A SAFETY RECALL.
WE DROVE FROM AUSTIN TO FORT WORTH, NO PROBLEM, STOPPED A FEW HOURS AT OUR HOTEL,THEN GOT BACK IN CAR, STARTED IT AND COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL OR MOVE THE CAR. THANKFULLY WE WERE STATIONARY.
THERE IS AN EXHAUST SMELL (LIKE BURNT HAIR) INSIDE THE CABIN WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATES, ESPECIALLY A HARD ACCELERATION AND OFTEN WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING IS ON. CERTIFIED DEALER CANNOT IDENTIFY CAUSE OF ISSUE OR HOW IT OCCURS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EMITTED AN EXHAUST ODOR THAT CAUSED THE CONTACT AND OTHER PASSENGERS TO HAVE HEADACHES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. A CERTIFIED MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS AN EXHAUST FAILURE, BUT THE EXACT CAUSE OF FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVER DOOR FAILED TO CLOSE CORRECTLY. THE CONTACT WOULD CLOSE AND LOCK THE DOORS; HOWEVER, THE OVERHEAD LIGHT AND THE WARNING INDICATOR ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL REMAINED ILLUMINATED, WHICH INDICATED THAT THE DOORS WERE NOT CLOSED. THE CONTACT HAD TO CLOSE THE DOOR SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL THE LIGHTS WERE NO LONGER ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
WHEN I AM DRIVING IN MOTION ON ANY TYPE OF ROAD AND I ACCELERATE I GET AN EXHAUST ROTTEN EGG SMELL INSIDE MY VEHICLE, I CALLED THE DEALER ABOUT IT, THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THERE IS A TSB AND PROBLEM BUT WOULDN'T FIX IT BECAUSE MY MILEAGE IS PAST WARRANTY COVERAGE. THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD COST ME ABOUT $2,000 OUT OF MY POCKET TO REPAIR. I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO REPAIR IT OR BUY ANOTHER VEHICLE BEING ON SOCIAL SECURITY. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THIS VEHICLE AND REPAIR IT, BUT THEY REFUSE, VERY SAD HOW THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH THIS FLAW AT THE COST OF SMALL CONSUMERS! PAINT AROUND THE EDGE OF THE HOOD IS BUBBLING AND CHIPPING OFF.
TAKATA RECALL FORD 2013 EXPLORER WAS TAKEN INTO HARRISON FORD, WELLINGTON OH ON MAY 5/15/2015 FOR NHTSA RECALL 15V171 (INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE SPRING). DROPPED OFF AND PICKED UP SAME DAY. EXPLORER WAS AND STILL HAVING SIGNALS AS FRONT DRIVER SIDE AJAR. FOR A WHILE THE DOOR HAD QUIT TO MY KNOWLEDGE. FAST FORWARD TO TODAY 9/29/2016 EXPLORER WAS TAKEN INTO DEALERSHIP FOR CONTINUOUS DISPLACEMENT FOR DOOR BEING "AJAR". DEALERSHIP ABOVE PRINTED THE NOTES ABOUT CAR HAVING FACTORY RECALL BEING DONE. EVEN THE SERVICE DESK CLERK QUESTIONED SAID NOTES FROM TECHNICIAN. AS A RESULT I WAS CHARGED $106.94 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC, AND EXPLORER WAS NOT FIXED. I EVEN ASKED WHY WOULD MY VIN SHOW UP ON THIS WEBSITE " NHTSA" . NO ANSWER. THE DRIVER DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE, PER MY INFORMATION SCREEN. IT CONCERNS ME IF IT IS NOT CLOSED, COULD IT BE THE SPRING FROM THE RECALL THAT WAS NOT FIXED? I DO HAVE AN INVOICE ATTACHED TO SHOW WORK WAS SUPPOSEDLY COMPLETED ON SAID DAY. ALSO TODAY I WAS CHARGED $2.55 FOR A HANDLE I WAS NEVER MADE AWARE OF TODAY 9/29/2016
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND I WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. WE WERE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN THE NUMBER 1 LANE AT ABOUT 65 MPH. WE FELT A JOLT, THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT IMMEDIATELY CAME ON STATING "SEE OWNER'S MANUAL". THE VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION, THE GAS PEDAL WAS NOT WORKING AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. WHILE THE VEHICLE STILL HAD FOWARD MOMENTUM, MY WIFE HAD TO QUICKLY CROSS SEVERAL LANES TO AVOID BEING HIT FROM OTHER VEHICLES SO THAT WE WOULD NOT GET STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY. WE WERE ABLE TO COAST OFF THE FREEWAY AND STOP. THE VEHICE WAS PLACED IN PARK AND SHE SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. AFTER APPROX 5 MINUTES, WE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, THE WARNING LIGHT WAS GONE, THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS NORMAL AND WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. ACCORDING TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BOX HAS TO BE REPLACED. THIS VEHICLE IS ONLY 3 1/2 YEARS OLD WITH 29,000 MILES. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE OCCUERED. THIS PARTICULAR PART IS NOT ON FORDS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM. THE PART IS DEFECTIVE AND FORD IS REPLACING THEM ON OTHER VEHICLES BUT NOT ON THE FORD EXPLORER.
WHILE DRIVING AN ERROR MESSAGE WITH WRENCH SYMBOL CAME ON AND CAR WOULDN'T MOVE. I PRESSED GAS PEDAL AND STILL WOULDN'T GO. I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET IN HEAVY TRAFFIC..
IN SEPT 2016 I PULLED OUT OF THE DENTIST AND BLACKED OUT. I SMELLED A WEIRD SMELL COMING FROM THE AIR CONDITIONING. SKI HAVE BEEN SICK AND OUT OF WORK SINCE. I HAVE BEEN TO MANY DOCTORS AND ALL TESTS COME BACK NEGATIVE. I DRIVE THE CAR BUT HAVE TO STOP MANY TIMES AND GET OUT BECAUSE I FEEL LIGHTHEADED AND "OUT OF IT". MY SONS ALSO GET NAUSEOUS AND "DON'T FEEL WELL" IN THE CAR. MY BOYFRIEND DROVE IT THE OTHER DAY AND GOT OUT SAYING HE DIDN'T FEEL WELL AND WAS REALLY TIRED. I REALLY BELIEVE THIS CAR HAS BEEN MY CAUSE OF BEING SO SICK AND OUT OF WORK FOR SO LONG. IT HAPPENS WHEN I'' DRIVING IT...I STOP AND GET OUT OF THE CAR AND AFTER A LITTLE BIT I FEEL BETTER.
THERE ARE TIMES I PRESS ON THE GAS PEDDLE AND THE CAR WILL NOT RESPOND. MOSTLY WHILE MOVING ON CITY STREETS BUT OCCASSIONALLY WHEN STARTING UP A GRADE. I DID HAVE IT INTO THE DEALERS AND THEY FOUND NO CODE SO THEY COULD DO NOTHING. TOLD ME IT WAS NOT SOMETHING THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF. THEY SUGGESTED I TRY A GASOLINE ADDITIVE. THIS STARTED IN FALL OF 2017 AND IS BECOMING MORE OFTEN.
WHILE DRIVING OUR 2013 EXPLORER ON I 95 WE LOST POWER STEERING, WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND DRIVING BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. WE WERE DRIVING THE SPEED LIMIT OF 70 MPH AND REDUCED SPEED. MADE IT HOME, PARKED AND TURNED OFF VEHICLE. RESTARTED VEHICLE AND HAD TOTAL LOSS OF STEERING. STEERING WHEEL LOCKED COMPLETELY. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED. STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO POWER STEERING GEAR HAS INTERNAL FAULT. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD OUR VEHICLE VIN # IS NOT CURRENTLY ON THE RECALL LIST.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST ALL POWER STEERING ON THE CAR. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER. RESTARTED THE CAR AND POWER STEERING CAME BACK.
VEHICLE WILL NOT SHIFT INTO PARK. RECEIVE MESSAGE "SHIFT TO PARK". AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, WILL EVENTUALLY SHIFT TO PARK (SO FAR). FAMILIAR WITH SEVERAL COMPLAINTS OF SAME ISSUE ON FORD EXPLORER AND EXPEDITIONS WITH CENTER CONSOLE
POWER STEERING WENT OUT, UNABLE TO DRIVE VEHICLE ANYWHERE. VERY DANGEROUS, COULD HAVE CAUSED A WRECK.
THIS EVENING MY WIFE RAN A FEW ERRANDS AND AFTERWARDS LITERALLY STUMBLED INTO OUR HOME BECAUSE OF HOW DIZZY SHE WAS. I ASKED HER WHAT WAS WRONG AND SHE SAID SHE ACCELERATED QUICKLY TO GET ON A BUSY CITY STREET NEAR OUR HOUSE COMING HOME AND SHE SUBSEQUENTLY INHALED AN "EXHAUST/BURNT HAIR" SMELL FROM INSIDE THE CAR. SHE COULD BARELY EVEN STAND STRAIGHT. WE HAVE 2 SMALL CHILDREN AND THE EXHAUST/GAS SMELL HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN MORE AND MORE NOTICEABLE WHEN ACCELERATING QUICKLY. WE'VE NOW HAD THE VEHICLE 2.5 YEARS APPROXIMATELY. EVERY TIME WE FILL THE VEHICLE UP WITH GAS, THE FUMES LINGER INSIDE THE CAR FOR OVER 24 HOURS. I'M SERIOUSLY WORRIED ABOUT MY FAMILY'S SAFETY AT THIS POINT AND WE'RE WONDERING WHAT ACTION TO TAKE NEXT SINCE WE DON'T WANT TO CONTINUE DRIVING A POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS VEHICLE. UNFORTUNATELY, WE LIVE IN A WARM STATE AND HAVE TO UTILIZE THE AC WITH THE WINDOWS UP ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY.
I HAD A COMPLETE SERVICE PERFORMED ON MY REAR BRAKES DUE TO THEM DRAGGING AND BEING COMPLETELY WORN IN JUNE/2016, LESS THAN THREE MONTHS LATER THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR BREAK IS DRAGGING AGAIN AND OVERHEATING. SINCE IT'S BEEN LESS THAN THREE MONTHS, I WOULD IMAGINE THAT CORROSION IS NOT THE ISSUE.
THE POWER STEERING ASSIST HAS DEFAULTED NUMEROUS TIMES AND LOCKED MY STEERING WHEEL UP. TURNING THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON HAS RESOLVED THE MATTER FOR NOW, BUT I AM AFRAID IT WILL LOCK UP WHILE DRIVING AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED. THE SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC WARNING HAS ALSO COME UP A COUPLE OF TIMES. ALL 4 OF THE STEERING DEFECTS HAVE OCCURRED BETWEEN THE DATES OF SEPTEMBER 1ST AND SEPTEMBER 5TH, 2016.
VEHICLE IS A 2013 EXPLORER XLT THAT WAS PURCHASED NEW. IT HAS 69K AND IS OUTSIDE THE 5YR/60K POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. MY WIFE COMMUTES TO WORK AND DRIVES THE KIDS TO SCHOOL. WE DO NOT TOW OR HAUL ANYTHING WITH IT. A FEW DAYS AGO SHE WAS PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND HIT ABOUT 20MPH WHEN IT LOST POWER AND WOULDN'T ACCELERATE (LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL). SHE PULLED OVER AND TRIED TO TURN AROUND, BUT THERE WAS NO REVERSE. WAS ABLE TO GET HOME WITH HELP FROM A NEIGHBOR. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY OR AT AN INTERSECTION THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DIFFERENT POSSIBLY RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH. I DROVE IT AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND "TERRAIN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FAULT LIGHT CAME ON. IT THROUGH A FEW CODES P0756, P2701, AND U3003. HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER AND THEY ULTIMATELY ARE SAYING THE CODES MEAN THAT THERE IS A MECHANICAL FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION AND IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED TO THE TUNE OF $5,800. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY HAVE YET TO DO ANYTHING. I FIND IT APPALLING THAT A 3 YEAR OLD CAR WITH UNDER 70K HAD A TOTAL CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION AND I'M EXPECTED TO COVER THE ENTIRE COST.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRIC STEERING GEAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,365. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE SERVICE POWER STEERING WARNING APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD WHILE TOWING A CAMPER AT 65MPH ON THE NYS THRUWAY I PULLED INTO A SERVICE AREA SHUT OFF THE CAR AND CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT. WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR THE SERVICE REP TOLD ME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE HE ASKED ME TO START THE CAR AND SEE IF THE POWER STEERING STILL WORKED I DID IT AND THE POWER STEERING DID NOT WORK THE REPAIR WAS DONE AT NO CHARGE UNDER MY WARRANTY WITH NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY IT HAPPENED

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY HAD EXCESS DEPOSITS, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
THE DOOR SENSOR INDICATES THE DOOR IS OPEN WHEN IN REALITY IT IS CLOSED. THIS CAUSES A WARNING BELL THAT DOES NOT CEASE AND KEEPS THE DOME LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THIS CONDITION ALSO CAUSES THE ALARM SYSTEM TO GO OFF RESULTING AT TIMES IN A POLICE RESPONSE. IN ORDER TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM YOU MUST SHUT THE DOOR REPEATEDLY, SOMETIMES A DOZEN TIMES OR MORE. THIS ALSO HAS RUN THE BATTERY DOWN DUE TO THE DOME LIGHTS AND ACCESSORIES STAYING ON. APART FROMT HE OBVIOUS FRUSTRATION THIS PROBLEM IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. THIS IS NOT A ONE TIME THING BUT A CHRONIC AND REPEATED PROBLEM THAT HAS NO REAL RESOLUTION. I SEE OTHER FORD USERS ARE EXPERIENCING SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THEIR FORD EXPLORERS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A BOLT LOCATED IN THE STEERING WHEEL FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ACTIVATED, THE CONTACT SMELLED AN EGG-LIKE ODOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ROLLED DOWN THE WINDOWS TO RELEASE THE ODOR FROM THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. FREEDOM FORD OF EVENSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE DEALER FURTHER STATED THAT AN EXTENSIVE PROCEDURE WOULD HAVE TO BE PERFORMED TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE, WHICH INCLUDED REMOVING THE BUMPER TO LOCATE THE ODOR. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS A TSB FOR THE FAILURE, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 30,000.
THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYS ON. THE DOOR SENSOR DOES NOT WORK. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS REMAIN ILLUMINATED DRAINING THE BATTERY. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR THE PAST THREE MONTHS. THE RECALL LIST FOR FORD ON THIS ISSUE KEEPS EXPANDING - THIS WEEK TO INCLUDE FORD EDGE. OBVIOUS PROBLEM WITH FORD NEED A RECALL AS DEALER WILL NOT COVER.
TURN SIGNALS MALFUNCTIONED CONSTANTLY. PROBLEM ALLEGEDLY CAUSED BY FAULTY INSTALLATION OF BOTH WIRING HARNESSES AT FACTORY. BOTH WERE REPLACED. SECOND VEHICLE IN OUR FLEET WITH THIS PROBLEM. VEHICLE STARTED LOSING ACCELERATION; PROBLEM TRACED TO FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. SECOND VEHICLE IN OUR FLEET WITH THIS PROBLEM.
THE THROTTLE BODY FAILS CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO ENTER "LIMP" MODE REGARDLESS OF LOCATION OR CURRENT SPEED. WILL GO 70 ON A HIGHWAY THEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN LOSE SPEED AND SPEED CONTROL. THIS ISSUE CAN ALSO HAPPEN WHEN ACCELERATING, SLOWING DOWN, ETC. THE BIGGEST WORRY IS LOSING SPEED CONTROL REGARDLESS OF LOCATION. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED IN OTHER FORD MODELS AND IS BEING VOLUNTARILY REPAIRED (BY FORD). HOWEVER, FOR SOME REASON THE 2013 FORD EXPLORER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS. OBVIOUSLY LOSING THROTTLE CONTROL WHILE DRIVING, HENCE FORDS VOLUNTARY REPAIR OF THE ISSUE. THE ISSUE STARTED TWO WEEKS AGO AND RANDOMLY HAPPENS. LAST HAPPENED ON 05 AUG 2016.
WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS SET TO FRESH AIR AND NOT RECIRCULATE, EXHAUST FUMES ENTER THE PASSENGER CABIN UNDER HARD ACCELERATION. THIS CAN BE REPRODUCED EVERY TIME BY A SLOW SPEED OF 5 MILES AND THEN HARD ACCELERATION UNTIL SPEED LIMIT. THIS THEN LEAVES THE CABIN FULL OF STRONG EXHAUST FUMES. ON LONG ROAD TRIPS WE OFTEN HAVE HEADACHES THAT WE BELIEVE IS CAUSED BY THIS EVEN WITHOUT HARD ACCELERATION.
STEERING FAILS ON THE HIGHWAY. THE SERVICE POWER ASSIST AND SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC WARNINGS COME ON. THE VEHICLE LOOSES POWER STEERING ASSIST AND IT WILL NOT RESET BY TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF. THE BLINKERS WILL ALSO NOT WORK WHEN THIS ERROR HAPPENS. IT HAS ALREADY BEEN TO THE DEALER TO BE "REPROGRAMMED" BUT THAT FIX ONLY LASTED 1 1/2 DAYS. VEHICLE IS NOW UNDRIVABLE WITHOUT REPLACING THE UNIT, WHICH IS UNDER RECALL FOR 1.5 MILLION OTHER FORD VEHICLES.
VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION (NO POWER,) ON HIGHWAY. HAD TO PULL OVER AND BARELY AVOIDED AN SEVERE ACCIDENT. ORANGE WRENCH CAME ON SIGNALING A PROBLEM. SHUT CAR OFF AND RESTARTED, LIMPING HOME. SERVICE WAS DONE REPLACING FAULTY THROTTLE BODY CONTROL.
ON AUG.3TH, 2016 I WAS DRIVING MY FORD EXPLORER 2013 ON A FREEWAY GOING APROX. 65MILES/HR. AT ONE POINT A WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLES ENGINE QUIT. I MADE SURE TO PUT MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON AND SLOWLY CHANGED LANES TO GET OUT OF THE WAY. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS AS THE FREEWAY IS UNDER HEAVY CONSTRUCTION SO THERE NOT MUCH SPACE TO PULL OVER SAFELY. I MANAGED TO FIND THE "SAFEST" SPOT AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE. I TURNED EVERYTHING OFF AND WAS ABOUT TO CALL FOR HELP . I FIGURED I SHOULD TRY AND START IT UP AND SEE IF IT WILL MOVE FROM ME INSTEAD. ONCE I DID THIS, AND I KNEW THAT IF I GAVE IT SOME GAS THE VEHICLE WOULD GO, I TOOK IT BACK HOME AND LEFT IT THERE UNTIL I COULD GET IT TO THE MECHANICS. THE MECHANIC WE USED SAID HE'S SEEN THIS QUITE OFTEN AND ITS SOME TYPE OF SENSOR THAT GIVES THE ENGINE THE FUEL IT NEEDS TO RUN. UNFORTUNATELY, THE SENSOR FAILED. WE GOT IT FIXED BUT FORD WOULD NOT COVER FOR THIS. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE WARRANTY IS FINISHED ON THIS VEHICLE BUT THERE IS NOT ENOUGH MILES ON IT TO WARRANT THIS TYPE OF FAULT. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD TOO! I WAS AND STILL AM VERY UPSET THAT THEY WILL NOT HELP US PAY FOR THIS FAULTY SENSOR. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO PUT FURTHER ACTION ON THIS PROBLEM AS I AM SURE THERE HAVE BEEN MANY OTHER FORDS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.
THERE IS CARBON MONOXIDE IN THE CABIN WHILE STATIONARY AND IN MOTION.
PAINT IS CHIPPING FROM THE HOOD FOR THE PAST YEAR!
EXHAUST SMELL IN INTERIOR OF VEHICLE. I TYPICALLY DRIVE WITH A/C OR HEAT ON (SEASONALLY) AND ALWAYS USE OUTSIDE AIR (NO RE-CIRCULATION). SMELL IS MORE NOTICEABLE WHEN IDLING AT A STOP LIGHT OR OTHERWISE NOT IN MOTION. HAVE TRIED TWO SERVICE CALLS RECENTLY WITH NO RESOLUTION. AN ADDITIONAL RELATED ISSUE IS AN EVEN STRONGER FUEL SMELL IN MY GARAGE. THIS IS MORE OF A PRE-COMBUSTION SMELL. THE DEALER REPORTED THAT THIS IS NORMAL AS A RESULT OF THE CAPLESS GAS TANK FILTER SYSTEM. DEFINITELY A HEALTH HAZARD FOR ANYONE ENTERING THE GARAGE, AND THE SMELL GETS INTO THE HOUSE. THESE ISSUES HAVE PERSISTED FOR THE PAST 6-12 MONTHS, GETTING WORSE OVER TIME. TO DATE, THE DEALER HAS NO RESOLUTION FOR EITHER ISSUE. PLEASE HELP.
EXHAUST SMELL IN CABIN DURING HEAVY LOADS ON ENGINE. I HAVE HAD THE TSB COMPLETED BY FORD AND STILL HAVE THIS PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE AND DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ACTIVATED, EXHAUST FUMES EMITTED FROM THE AIR CONDITIONING VENTS. ALSO, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR AJAR SENSOR ILLUMINATED ALTHOUGH THE DOOR WAS SECURED. EVENTUALLY, THE DOOR COULD NOT BE LOCKED AT ALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR LATCH MODULE WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.

ON 7/29/16 AS I WAS DRIVING HOME (LESS THAN A TEN MILES) AFTER WASHING MY VEHICLE A WARNING LIGHT WITH A WRENCH CAME ON AND I LOSS ACCELERATION VEHICLE WENT FROM 50 MPH TO 5 MPH UNSURE DUE SPEEDOMETER BECOMING INOPERATIVE I PULLED OVER INTO A SHOPPING CENTER STOPPED ENGINE AND RESTARTED IT AGAIN I THEN PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE AT WHICH TIME I HAD ACCELERATION AGAIN AT WHICH TIME I CONTINUED HOME ARRIVED AND PARKED THE VEHICLE.
THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AT TIMES WILL NOT LATCH, HAS SWUNG OPEN WHILE DRIVING, AND THE DOOR HANDLE AT TIMES IS ALMOST FALLING OFF.
FOR 2 YEARS NOW I HAVE BEEN SMELLING FUMES IN MY CAR, BUT UNABLE TO PIN POINT THE SMELL. AFTER TAKING TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID I'M SMELLING EXHAUST FUMES. THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OR EVEN EXTENDED WARRANTY PURCHASED, EVEN THOUGH OUR SAFETY IS AT RISK INHALING CARBON MONOXIDE. MY 5 CHILDREN ARE CONSTANTLY COMPLAINING OF HEADACHES, AS I HAVE HAD. I WASN'T EVER ABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE, BUT AM COMING TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THIS IS THE CAUSE. FORD IS UNDER INVESTIGATION, AND NEEDS TO MAKE THIS RIGHT WITH THE CONSUMERS.
STRONG SULFUR SMELL IN CABIN OF VEHICLE AFTER MODERATE TO HEAVY ACCELERATION. EX: ACCELERATING TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC ON A FREEWAY ON RAMP. THE SMELL GENERALLY COMES THROUGH AFTER SUSTAINED ACCELERATION WITH ENGINE RPM OVER 4000 AND SEEMS TO BE ORIGINATING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE.
I HAD MY THREE GRANDCHILDREN FOR THE DAY AND WE DECIDED TO GO TO A HANDS-ON MUSEUM. MY GRANDSON HAD NEVER BEEN CAR SICK AND HAS NOT BEEN SINCE THAT DAY. HE WAS RIDING IN THE THIRD ROW SEAT WHEN HE BECAME VERY SICK. WE PULLED THE CAR OVER AND HE THREW UP. AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF FRESH AIR, HE WAS FINE. NUMEROUS TIMES, MY HUSBAND HAS ASKED ME WHAT THE ROTTEN SMELL WAS COMING FROM IN MY CAR. ONCE THE MEDIA REPORTED THE CARBON MONOXIDE PROBLEM WITH FORD EXPLORERS, I REALIZED THIS WAS THE SAME ODOR WE HAD SMELLED SO MANY TIMES AND THE REASON MY GRANDSON BECAME SO SICK WHILE RIDING IN THE THIRD ROW SEAT. I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND THEY SAID THEIR PHONE HAD BEEN RINGING OFF THE HOOK BECAUSE THE MEDIA HAD BLOWN EVERYTHING OUT OF PROPORTION. THEY INDICATED THAT THEY WERE UNAWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND NOTHING WAS CURRENTLY BEING DONE TO FIX IT. I'M NOT WILLING TO SACRIFICE MY GRANDCHILDREN, SO I TRADED CARS AND LOST LOTS OF MONEY IN THE PROCESS. I HAD TO FINANCE ANOTHER CAR FOR 75 MONTHS IN ORDER TO PROTECT MY FAMILY. I THINK FORD SHOULD COMPENSATE CUSTOMERS FOR THEIR LOSS. I HOPE SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT THIS BEFORE SOMEONE HAS TO LOSE THEIR CHILD OR THEIR OWN LIFE TO CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING.
