MY VEHICLE IS NOW AT APROX 38,000 MILES AND THIS HAPPENS FREQUENTLY UPON HARD ACCELERATIONS AND STEEP INCLINES, THE SMELL OF SULFUR, ROTTEN EGG SMELL, OR HARD BOILED EGG SMELL (EXHAUST) THIS HAPPENS EVEN WHEN THE A/C IS RUNNING ON RECIRCULATE. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AND AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. *TR
WHILE WAITING IN LINE AT THE LOCAL CAR WASH THE ENGINE IN MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER SPORT BEGAN TO REV UP, THEN LOST POWER AND BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY BEFORE THE ENGINE STALLED COMPLETELY. NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED AND NO VISIBLE INDICATIONS OR WARNINGS WERE DISPLAYED TO GIVE ANY INDICATION AS TO WHAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE ENGINE FAILED AND I HAD TO PUSH THE VEHICLE OUT OF LINE AND INTO AN ADJACENT PARKING LOT. WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE ONCE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED TO TOW THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK IT STARTED UP AS IF NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. *TR
2013 FORD EXPLORER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO HEADLIGHTS DO NOT ILLUMINATE FAR ENOUGH IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND AIM DOWN INTO THE ROAD. *SMD THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, IT WAS A DESIGN FEATURE, AND THERE WAS NOTHING TO FIX. *JB
DURING STOP AND GO CONDITIONS THE VEHICLE EXHAUST FUMES WITH ENTER THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE AND BEING TO MAKE THE OCCUPANTS FEEL ILL. BROUGHT THIS ISSUE TO A FORD SERVICE DEALER, WHICH CONFIRMED THIS WAS EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING THE VEHICLE. THERE HAS NOT BEEN A SOLUTION FROM THE MANUFACTURER YET. *TR
STEERING POWER SUPPORT STOPPED WITHOUT WARNING DURING A TURN AT LOWER SPEED. CAR BECAME ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL. FAULT LIGHTS INCLUDED STABILITY, TRACTION, AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL ERRORS CAME ON AS THE STEERING POWER SUPPORT ENDED. FUSE AND MECHANISM APPEAR UNDAMAGED. TURNING THE CAR ON AND OFF DID NOT REMOVE THE FAULT. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT A OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT RODENTS WERE DESTROYING THE WIRES UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE WIRE INSTALLATION WAS MADE FROM SOY BEANS, WHICH WAS ATTRACTING THE RODENTS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 9,500.

MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER XLT HAS AN EXHAUST SMELL THAT ENTERS CAR WHEN COMING TO A STOP.BROUGHT IT TO SEVERAL DEALERSHIP EXPLAINING PROBLEM ONE TIME THEY CHANGED MOLDINGS AND BODY PARTS BUT DID NOT RESOLVE ISSUE ANOTHER TIME THEY CHANGED CABIN FILTER BUT DID NOT RESOLVE. ANOTHER DEALERSHIP THEY COULDN'T FIND PROBLEM. THIS NEEDS TO RESOLVED I SPENT A LOT OF MONEY ON THIS VEICHLE. THE SMELL ENTERS VEICHLE WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP THIS PROBLEM BEEN HAPPENING FOR COUPLE YEARS

WHILE THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS IN RECIRCULATION MODE, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE PAST OTHER VEHICLES AND THE ABNORMAL ODOR WAS NOTICED. SMELL EXHAUST WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE AND ODOR IS REALLY STRONG
I WENT TO SUBWAY TO GET SOMETHING TO EAT AND GOT BACK IN CAR TO LEAVE AND THE STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED LIGHT CAME ON AND STEERING WHEEL IS VERY TIGHT. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND IT'S NOT RESETTING. I HAVE A TOW TRUCK ON THERE WAY RIGHT NOT. I LIVE IN NORTH DAKOTA AND HAD THIS HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY GOING A HIGH RATE OF SPEED WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY SCARY. THIS CAR IS NOT EVEN 3 MONTHS OLD AND HAS UNDER 5,000 MILES ON IT. THIS IS VERY DISTURBING AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *TR

13 FRONT JOUNCE BRAKE HOSE FAILURES IN 11 VEHICLES WERE REPORTED BY A POLICE FLEET. THE FLEET INCLUDES A TOTAL OF 45 MODEL YEAR 2013 EXPLORER POLICE INTERCEPTORS THAT WERE PURCHASED AND PLACED INTO SERVICE IN 2013. I WAS CHANGING LANES FROM THE LEFT TO THE RIGHT. WHEN I WENT TO STRAIGHTEN OUT IN THE LANE THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILED, WHILE THE WHEEL WAS CUT TO THE RIGHT. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO USE BOTH MY HANDS TO FORCE THE WHEEL BACK. I FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO STEER THE WHEEL AND I AM A 34 YEAR OLD CONSTRUCTION WORKER. IF MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR, SHE WOULD OF CRASHED INTO THE PERSON WHO WAS WALKING ON THE SIDEWALK. *TR
UNDER MODERATE TO HARD ACCELERATION OR CLIMBING LONGER HILLS A FOUL ODOR OF SULFUR EXHAUST FILLS THE CABIN. ISSUE IS VERY REPEATABLE AND HAPPENS VERY FREQUENTLY. SMELL DISSIPATES AFTER A MINUTE OR SO AFTER RPMS ARE BACK TO LOWER RANGE. *TR
ONE WEEK AFTER I PURCHASED MY BRAND NEW FORD THE TRANSMISSION STARTED GOING BAD AFTER A MONTH I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS DEFECTIVE AND I HAD A NEW TRANSMISSION INSTALLED MY AIR BAG SENSORS WERE CHANGED CAUSE THEY WERE DEFECTIVE MY TRANSMISSION WAS DAMAGED AGAIN AND WAS REPAIRED AGAIN AND THE FUEL WAS ALSO RECALLED MY FORD STILL GIVE ME A VERY BAD SMELL WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY I BELIEVE IT STILL HAS DAMAGE IN THE TRANSMISSION ALSO WHEN I WENT TO GET MY CAR BALANCED WITH FORD THE POWER STEERING PIECE THAT WAS ELECTRIC THAT COST ME ALMOST 1,000.00 PLEASE I CAN TAKE ANY HELP I CAN GET
2011-2015 FORD EXPLORER THERE IS A "DESIGN FLAW" IN WHICH THE INTERNAL CABIN AIR VENTS ARE SUCKING IN EXHAUST AND CARBON MONOXIDE. FORD HAS ISSUED A FIX (TSB 14-0130) BUT NOT A RECALL AND THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. FOR ME IT IS HAPPENING ON ACCELERATION AND GOING UP STEEP GRADES AND THERE IS A SULFUR/MECHANICAL BURNING SMELL THAT WAFTS IN. THE KIDS AND I, AS WELL AS ANYONE ELSE IN THE CAR FOR LONG DURATIONS, HAVE BEEN GETTING MIGRAINES, DIZZY AND JUST FLAT OUT SICK. I DRIVE FOR WORK AND THE DIZZINESS AND MIGRAINES HAS BECOME SO FREQUENT, AS WELL AS MIXING UP WORDS WHEN I'M SPEAKING, THAT I WAS BEGINNING TO THINK SOMETHING IS SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH ME. I PASSED OUT AND WRECKED IT WHEN I HAD ONLY 20,000 MILES ON IT AND I KEPT SAYING "I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPENED, I JUST PASSED OUT". I HAD GONE UP THE GRADE ON 101, WHERE THE FUMES BECOME EXTREMELY POTENT, EXITED, AND HAD JUST GOT ON TO THE RANCH ROAD AND WAS GOING SLOW AND I WAS (FOR THE MOST PART) UN-INJURED AND NO ONE WAS WITH ME. I HAVE HAD IT IN 5 TIMES FOR THE SMELL BUT IT WASN'T UNTIL THIS LAST TIME THAT THEY TOLD ME WHAT WAS REALLY GOING ON. FORD WOULDN'T PAY FOR THE FIX EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A FORD PREMIUM 100K MILE WARRANTY BECAUSE THEIR WARRANTY EXCLUDES "DESIGN FLAWS" BUT FORTUNATELY HENRY CURTIS FORD PICKED UP THE TAB AND I HAD TO PAY THE $100 DEDUCTIBLE. WHILE THE PROBLEM IS NOT HAPPENING AS FREQUENTLY, IT STILL HAPPENS IN CERTAIN CONDITIONS. FORD IS REFUSING TO GIVE ME A NEW CAR. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS "DESIGN FLAW", WHICH MEANS IT'S IN EVERY EXPLORER OUT THERE, INCLUDING THE ONES THE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS DRIVE. FRONT SUSPENSION MAKES NOISES WHEN DRIVING OVER A BUMP. BILL FLICK FORD WANTS TO CHARGE MONEY IN ORDER TO LOOK AT A DEFECT IN THE SUSPENSION. WHEN I REPORTED THE ISSUE THE FORD EXPLORER HAD IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE WORKERS ALSO SAID THAT IT WAS COMMON FOR THE 2013 FORD EXPLORER TO HAVE THE SUSPENSION PROBLEMS.
EXHAUST FUMES IN CABIN WHEN ACCELERATED. *TR
2013 FORD EXPLORER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE KEYPAD ENTRY SYSTEM ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE KEYPAD IS ENCLOSED IN A PLASTIC CASING AND OPENS MAYBE ONE OUT OF THREE TRIES, WHICH MAKES IT VIRTUALLY USELESS AS AN ENTRY INTO THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER ADMITTED THERE WAS A PROBLEM, BUT THERE WAS NO FIX.
POWER STEERING FAILURE. FAILED MULTIPLE TIMES, UNABLE TO REPLICATE AT DEALERSHIP. HAPPENED AT LOW SPEED WHILE IN A PARKING LOT. PULLING INTO PARKING SPOT AND STEERING FAILED CAUSING MINOR COLLISION WITH PARKED VEHICLE IN NEXT SPACE. DEALERSHIP STILL UNABLE TO REPLICATE.
BOUGHT 2013 EXPLORER WITH P255/50R20 104H TIRES WENT TO HAVE ALL TERRAIN TIRES WITH STUDS PUT ON CAR FOR WINTER. WHEELS ARE 18 INCH RIMS (245/60R18 104T), RECOMMENDED BY FORD WHEN I BOUGHT VEHICLE. I NEED STUDS DUE TO EXTREME CONDITIONS IN MONTANA WITH ICE. THE P255/50R20 104H TIRES CANNOT BE FITTED WITH STUDS. FORD RECOMMENDED THE R18 TIRES. NOW FORD REFUSED TO RECALIBRATE MY SPEEDOMETER WITH THE SMALLER TIRES EVEN THOUGH THIS IS THE STANDARD TIRE R245/60R18 PUT ON EXPLORERS. THE DEALER IS LOCKED OUT OF THIS OPTION. MY CHOICE IS DRIVE WITHOUT STUDS (CANNOT GET IN MY DRIVEWAY WITHOUT THEM)AND SPEEDOMETER IS CORRECT OR USE THE SAFER TIRE WITH STUDS AND RISK TICKETS AS THE SPEEDOMETER IS OFF.. *TR

WHEN ACCELERATING, WITH ENGINE RPMS RISING ABOVE 3500 RPM EXHAUST FUMES BEGIN TO ENTER THE CABIN THROUGH THE AC DUCTS. ODOR IS PRESENT REGARDLESS OF VENTILATION MODE (RECIRCULATION OR FRESH-AIR). ALL ATTEMPTS AT REPAIR, INCLUDING OFFICIAL TSB BULLETIN PUBLISHED BY THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY (TSB 12-12-4) AND INSPECTION BY FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER, BY FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER PERSONNEL HAVE FAILED. HERE IS A PART OF A RESPONSE FROM FORD TO MY SERVICE TECHNICIAN ON 10/10/2013 THIS CONCERN IS CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION. WHEN A RESOLUTION IS AVAILABLE, THE DEALER WILL BE NOTIFIED WITH A TSB, SSM, FSA, OR BROADCAST MESSAGE." I THINK THIS PROBLEM EXISTS IN EVERY FORD EXPLORER MANUFACTURED SINCE 2011 TO PRESENT BUT CONSUMERS EITHER DON'T KNOW IT IS HAPPENING OR THEY DON'T KNOW TO TAKE IT TO FORD. PAGE 206 OF MY OWNERS MANUAL STATES 'WARNING: IF YOU SMELL EXHAUST FUMES INSIDE YOUR VEHICLE, HAVE THIS CHECKED IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE IF YOU SMELL EXHAUST FUMES. CARBON MONOXIDE IS PRESENT IN EXHAUST FUMES. TAKE PRECAUTIONS TO AVOID ITS DANGEROUS EFFECTS.' FORD WON'T DO THE RIGHT THING AND BUY THIS VEHICLE BACK FROM ME AND BECAUSE I BOUGHT THE CAR CERTIFIED PREOWNED FROM FORD, WHEN IT WAS ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD AND 16000 MILES, I CAN'T LEMON LAW THE VEHICLE IN FL. EXHAUST FROM THE ENGINE COMES INTO THE PASSENGER AREA OF THE VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY ON LONG TRIPS CAUSING HEADACHES. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS AN ISSUE OF OUTSIDE AIR COMING IN BUT I HAVE THE BUTTON PUSHED FOR INSIDE AIR. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AT THE END OF 2013.

I HAVE A 2013 FORD EXPLORER SPORT WITH APPROXIMATELY 8500 MILES. THE INTERIOR CABIN OFTEN FILLS WITH EXHAUST FUMES. AS I WAS DRIVING I-10 WESTBOUND IN HOUSTON THERE WAS A VERY LOUD DEFINITIVE EXPLOSION IN THE AREA OF THE GAS TANK ON MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER. I IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER AND COASTED TO THE HAZARD LANE. THE FIRE TRUCKS ARRIVED AND THE FIREMEN APPLIED PUTTY TO ALL OF THE LEAKS AROUND THE FUEL TANK. IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT ALL OF MY FUEL HAD DUMPED OUT IMMEDIATELY DURING THE EXPLOSION PREVENTING FURTHER DAMAGE AND FIRE. JUST HAVING FILLED MY GAS TANK, I FEEL LUCKY TO BE ALIVE RIGHT NOW. I HAVE A 2013 EXPLORER SPORT WHICH I PURCHASED NEW FROM THE DEALER 2 MONTHS AGO. ON THE MORNING OF 8/15/2013 I WAS TURNING LEFT INTO A PARKING LOT AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP ON A ROAD, GOING LESS THAN 10MPH. AS I ACCELERATED AND TURNED MY WHEEL LEFT THE POWER STEERING FAILED COMPLETELY MAKING IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE WHEEL AND THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH CAME ON FOR THE ADVANCETRAC AND THE STABILITY CONTROL. I WAS ABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE INTO A PARKING SPOT AND PUT IT IN PARK. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, WAITED A MINUTE OR TWO AND TURNED IT BACK ON WITHOUT RESOLUTION OF THE SYMPTOMS. I LOOKED UP THE WARNING LIGHTS IN THE OWNERS MANUAL AND IT SAID TO HAVE IT SERVICED IMMEDIATELY. I HAD MY EXPLORER TOWED TO THE CLOSEST FORD DEALER. THE DEALERSHIP STATES THAT THEY HAVE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE OVER 100 MILES IN THE PAST WEEK AND A HALF WITHOUT THOSE PROBLEMS OCCURRING AGAIN. I'VE READ SEVERAL ARTICLES ABOUT FAULTY EPAS SYSTEMS, NONE FROM 2013 EXPLORERS YET. THE FORD ENGINEERS HAVE TOLD THE DEALERSHIP TO RETURN THE VEHICLE TO ME AND 'SEE IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN'. THEY ARE #10522939, 10521718, 10511749, 10503135, 10472937, 10497684 AND 10493493. IT SEEMS THAT THERE DEFINITELY IS A PROBLEM WITH EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING THE CABIN WHILE DRIVING. I JUST RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL NOTICE 13S04 FOR A POSSIBLE FUEL LEAK BUT I DON'T THINK THAT WILL STOP SMELL FROM COMING THROUGH THE AIR VENTS. SEEMS TO BE THAT SOME KIND OF SEAL OR GASKET IS NOT OPERATING AS REQUIRED TO KEEP FUMES FROM ENTERING THE CABIN. ON A NIGHT WITH LIGHT RAIN, AFTER TRAVELING 1.5 HRS WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON, I PULLED OFF INTERSTATE EXIT TO MAKE A PHONE CALL. I DID NOT TURN ENGINE OFF. AFTER CALL I PROCEEDED TO GET BACK ON INTERSTATE, WHILE MERGING BACK ONTO INTERSTATE I ACCELERATED HARD TO ATTAIN MERGING SPEED, WHEN I MERGED SAFELY IN FRONT OF SEMI THE ENGINE SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND LOST POWER. TO AVOID BEING HIT, I JERKED VEHICLE INTO EMERGENCY LANE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS FLASHING AND THE CAR PLACED IN LIMP MODE. I TURNED THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY OF AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND EVERY THING APPEARED TO HAVE RETURNED TO NORMAL. I LATER READ THAT NIGHT THAT THE F150 WITH SAME ENGINE WAS HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FORD THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. THE SERVICE ADVISOR INFORMED ME THAT FORD HAS BEEN HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY ENGINE THAT IS IN THE FORD F150 IN HUMID AREAS. HE STATED THAT LARGE AMOUNTS OF CONDENSATION FORMS IN THE INTERCOOLER WHEN DRIVING FOR LONG PERIODS WITHOUT UTILIZING TURBO, THEN NEXT TIME YOU ACCELERATE HARD THE TURBOS SUCK ALL THE CONDENSATION INTO THE ENGINE CAUSING A MISFIRE AND PUTS ENGINE INTO LIMP MODE. AFTER A WEEK OF THEM CONTACTING FORD ENGINEERS AND RUNNING TEST, THEY TOLD ME THEY CANNOT REPEAT PROBLEM AND THE ENGINE DID NOT STORE ANY CODES IN THE ECM FROM THE PROBLEM. FORD ALSO TOLD THE DEALER THAT I'M THE ONLY PERSON WITH A 2013 EXPLORER WITH THE 3.5 ECOBOOST ENGINE THAT HAS EVER REPORTED PROBLEM. SINCE THEN I HAVE READ ABOUT TWO LAWSUITS WHICH HAVE BEEN FILED AGAINST FORD INVOLVING THE ECOBOOST ENGINE AND INCLUDED THE 2013 FORD EXPLORER SPORT. APPARENTLY THIS STATEMENT IS NOT TRUE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR ME AND MY FAMILY.
