AFTER ALL THE NEW CAR SMELLS BEGAN TO WEAR OFF WE BEGAN TO NOTICE WHAT SEEMED TO BE EXHAUST FUMES WHEN WE WERE DRIVING UP HILLS. WE SOON NOTICED THAT IT HAPPENED ANYTIME UPON HARD ACCELERATION. THE SMELL IS ENOUGH TO MAKE YOUR EYES BURN AND WATER FROM UP IN THE DRIVER SEAT. WE THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS COMING FROM THE REAR BUT TRIED IN ALL POSITIONS AND OFF AND STILL HAVE IT. THE FORD FIX WITH THE NEW VENT, SEALANT, ETC. WAS DONE AND HAD NO EFFECT ON IT. IT WAS BROUGHT BACK INTO THE DEALERSHIP A SECOND TIME AND THE OPPOSITE VENT WAS REPLACED, STILL NO CHANGE. WE BROUGHT IT BACK INTO THE DEALERSHIP A THIRD TIME AND IT WAS CHECKED FOR IMPROPER BODY SEALS AND WEATHER STRIPS WITH NOTHING FOUND. WE ARE NOW TOLD WE HAVE TO JUST WAIT AND SEE IF FORD COMES UP WITH A FIX. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH REAR DOORS WOULD NOT UNLATCH WITHOUT ASSISTANCE FROM THE DRIVER OR FRONT PASSENGER. THE CHILD LOCK WAS NOT ENGAGED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THIS WAS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED IN THAT MANNER. IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY, THE DRIVER AND REAR PASSENGERS WOULD BE TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HIS WIFE WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY CEASED. THE DRIVER TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE TO RESET AND REGAIN POWER STEERING FUNCTIONALITY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE MOSTLY OCCURRED AT START-UP. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BLUEBONNET FORD (351 IH 35 S, NEW BRAUNFELS, TX 78130, (833)505-0245) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OPENED A CASE. THE CONTACT WAS THEN REFERRED TO THE NHTSA FOR ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE THE ENGINE WAS STARTED AND ALSO, WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED. THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHILE THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL TIMES. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER TO RESTART THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE THEN FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE MILEAGE WAS 8,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AS THE BACK-UP CAMERA FAILED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE BACK-UP CAMERA WIRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACE BUT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE STALLING PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000. *TR
WHEN ACCELERATING A STONG EXHAUST SMELL IS PRESENT IN THE VEHICLE CABIN. THIS IS MOST PRONOUNCED DURING A LONG ACCELERATION I.E. WHEN ENTERING A HIGHWAY. FOLLOWING A PERIOD OF ACCELERATION WE NEED TO OPEN THE WINDOWS TO PURGE THE EXHAUST FROM THE CABIN. THIS IS REGARDLESS OF THE HEATING/COOLING SYSTEM BEING ON OR OFF, OR IF THE RECIRCULATION FEATURE IS ENABLED. THE DEALERSHIP IMPLEMENTED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS CONDITION AND IT HAD NO IMPROVEMENT. *JS
IN 2013 THE DEALER REFUSE TO WORK ON THE ISSUE WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. EITHER THE WHEEL HUB AND BEARINGS ARE OUT OR THE STRUTS ARE DEFECTIVE.THE SOUND HAPPENS IN MOTION AND STATIONARY IF MOVING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT. I HAVE CALLED AND COMPLAINED AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS RECALLS FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL BUT NOT WITH MY VIN NUMBER. WAS TOLD THAT A BASE MODEL ISN'T THAT IMPORTANT. CALLED AGAIN TO REPORT IT TO FORD 2/4/2019 AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE ARE ISSUES WITH YOUR MAKE AND MODEL AND THERE WASN'T ANY THING THEY COULD DO UNTIL NHTSA STEPS IN AND DIRECT ME TO THIS WEBSITE.
I DROVE MY RECENTLY ACQUIRED AND NEW FORD EXPLORER SPORT FOR FIRST TIME ON THE HIGHWAY ON MARCH 4, 2013. WHEN ACCELERATING TO PASS A TRUCK, I LOST CONTROL OF FRONT END TO POINT OF SWIRLING AND NEAR COLLISION WITH THE TRUCK. I DON'T CONSIDER THIS A FLUKE AS SAME HAPPENED A WHILE LATER DURING SAME HIGHWAY TRIP. I'M VERY FAMILIAR WITH HIGH HORSEPOWER PASSENGER VEHICLES AND SPORTS CARS FOR THAT MATTER. I AM ALSO VERY FAMILIAR WITH HIGHER AND ALLOWABLE SPEEDS HAVING DRIVEN AND HANDLED SPORT CARS AND PASSENGER VEHICLES ON GERMAN AUTOBAHNS WHILE LIVING IN EUROPE. IT IS MY EXPERIENCE AND BELIEF THAT THE COMBINATION OF CHARACTERISTICS (WEIGHT BALANCING IN COMBINATION WITH SIGNIFICANT HORSEPOWER, POSSIBLY LARGE TIRE SIZE, TRACTION AND FOUR WHEEL/FRONT WHEEL DRIVE ASPECTS, THRUST ETC.) MAKE THIS VEHICLE, THE FORD EXPLORER SPORT, EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ON HIGHWAY WHILE ACCELERATING AT ALLOWABLE SPEEDS. A LOCAL DEALERSHIPS' EXPERT (READ: DEALER IS AN INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR) IN INDIANA CONFIRMED MY OBSERVATIONS AND BELIEFS AND USED TERM "SQUIRLYNESS" TO DESCRIBE VEHICLES' HANDLING WHEN ACCELERATING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. FORD INDICATES THAT VEHICLE OPERATES AS DESIGNED, I CONTENT THE DESIGN IS BAD, CAUSING THIS FORD EXPLORER SPORT VERSION TO BE VERY DANGEROUS. IN MY MIND IT IS ENTIRELY FORESEEABLE THAT ACCIDENTS WILL HAPPEN TO UNSUSPECTING DRIVERS OF THIS VEHICLE BASED ON THE VEHICLE CHARACTERISTICS. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WILL NOT BE ADMITTED TO BY FORD DUE TO PRE-EMPTIVE LIABILITY ASSUMPTION IN CASE OF ACCIDENTS. I OFFERED FORD TO TAKE THIS NEW VEHICLE BACK. ONCE AGAIN I UNDERSTAND THAT THEY WOULD NOT AS THIS WOULD IMPLY ADMITTANCE OF SAFETY CONCERNS REGARDING THE FORD EXPLORER SPORT VERSION. *TR
EXHAUST ENTERS THE VEHICLE CABIN ANY TIME THE ENGINE IS OPERATED AT HIGHER RPMS, SUCH AS CLIMBING A LONG HILL OR TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND PASSING OTHER TRAFFIC. THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN PRESENT SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE (NEW), BUT WE INITIALLY THOUGHT THE ODOR WAS COMING FROM SURROUNDING VEHICLES. WE SHORTLY DISCOVERED THAT THE EXHAUST ODOR OCCURRED WITHOUT THE PRESENCE OF ANY OTHER TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE FORD DEALER WHO CONTACTED FORD ENGINEERING FOR A FIX. THE "FIX" DIDN'T HELP. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ESTABLISHED A "CASE" IN AUGUST, 2013, AND WAS PROMISED THE PROBLEM WOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF. FORD TOLD US TO OPERATE THE VENTILATION SYSTEM IN THE RECIRCULATION MODE UNTIL THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. THIS ONLY AMPLIFIED THE ODOR BECAUSE THE EXHAUST STILL ENTERED BUT WAS THEN TRAPPED IN THE CABIN. AT FORD'S DIRECTION THE CAR WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT SAT FOR 3 WEEKS BUT WAS NOT TOUCHED. THE DEALER THEN CALLED AND ASKED US TO COME GET THE CAR BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. SINCE THEN, DESPITE MY CONTINUING EFFORTS, I HAVE BEEN REPEATEDLY STALLED AND TOLD "WE'RE WORKING ON IT". THE ODOR IS PRESENT YEAR ROUND BUT SEEMS TO BE STRONGER IN WARMER WEATHER. *TR
THIS 2013 EXPLORER XLT 4WD WITH 345 MILES ON IT AND LESS THAN TWO WEEKS OLD EXPERIENCED COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE WHILE BEING DRIVEN IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA AT MID-DAY. *TR
I JUST BOUGHT A 2013 FORD EXPLORER LAST WEEK AND I AM HAVING AN ISSUE WITH BURNT OIL SMELL GETTING INSIDE THE CABIN EVEN WITH A/C IN RECIRCULATION MODE. IT IS SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT TO PAY OVER 40K FOR A BRAND NEW SUV AND BEEN DEALING WITH SUCH AN ISSUE. I HAVE A NEWBORN AND I AM AFRAID TO TAKE IT WITH ME IN THE EXPLORER BECAUSE I GUESS IT IS HARMFUL FOR ANYBODY. FIRST TIME I BOUGHT A FORD AND I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT MY DECISION TO SWITCH BRANDS. I TOOK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND NEED TO GO BACK ON MONDAY TO DO A SYSTEM UPDATE BUT I DON'T THINK UPDATING THE SOFTWARE IT'S GOING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I HOPE SOMEONE FROM FORD CAN READ THIS AND PAY ATTENTION TO US BECAUSE IT'S NOT HEALTHY TO BE DRIVING INHALING HARMFUL FUMES. *TR
I BOUGHT MY EXPLORER JANUARY 3, 2013. A FEW WEEKS LATER I BEGAN TO SMELL GAS FUMES COMING FROM THE AIRCONDITIONER VENTS WHEN STARTING THE IGNITION. IT ONLY LASTED A FEW MINUTES BEFORE THE FUMES WERE NO LONGER SMELT. THIS CONTINUED TO GO ON FOR MONTHS, RANDOMLY, WHETHER THE GAS TANK WAS FULL OR EMPTY, WHETHER IT WAS DRIVEN FOR MILES OR IF IT WAS STARTING FOR THE FIRST TIME THAT DAY. MULTIPLE PASSENGERS, INCLUDING MY DAUGHTER, HAVE SMELT THE FUMES AND QUESTIONED WHETHER IT WAS SAFE. MY MOTHER AND COUSIN BOTH PURCHASED AN EXPLORER AS WELL & BOTH IMMEDIATELY HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS. I CALLED THE SALESMAN THAT I PURCHASED IT FROM AND HE ADVISED THAT I HAVE IT LOOKED AT. SHORTLY AFTER, I LEARNED ABOUT THE MASS RECALL THAT FORD HAD PLACED ON THE EXPLORERS. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT (JUNE 6, 2013) & WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT ACCORDING TO THE COMPUTER. I INSISTED THAT THEY TAKE ANOTHER LOOK AT IT BECAUSE THIS WAS HAPPENING TOO OFTEN & BY THIS TIME MY GARAGE HAD STARTED TO SMELL LIKE GAS. THE DEALERSHIP DECIDED TO PLACE ME IN A RENTAL CAR & TAKE A LONGER LOOK IT. I WAS TOLD THAT NEXT MONDAY THAT FORD WOULD HONOR MY COMPLAINTS & HAVE THE PARTS REPLACED. THIS HAS YET TO HAPPEN. I AM CURRENTLY STILL IN A RENTAL DUE TO FORD NOT WANTING TO REPLACE MY PARTS UNTIL THEY MASS PRODUCE THE FAULTY PART. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WILL BE THIS OCTOBER BEFORE THEY CONSIDER REPLACING MY PART NOW. THIS EXPLORER IS DANGEROUS DUE TO THE FUMES AND CHANCE OF EXPLOSION. IT IS ALSO A FIRE/EXPLOSION HAZARD FOR ME TO HAVE IT PARKED AT MY HOUSE. MY EXPLORER REMAINS USELESS AT THE DEALERSHIP. MY MOM WAS TOLD SHE SHOULDN'T BRING IN HER VEHICLE UNTIL OCTOBER SOME TIME DUE TO NOT HAVING THE PART. THIS IS 3 NEW EXPLORERS THAT ARE NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND THAT ARE DANGEROUS TO MY FAMILY AND OTHER FAMILIES ON THE HIGHWAYS. I CAN ONLY WONDER IF THERE ARE MORE. *TR
VEHICLE BEGINS TO VIBRATE AND CAN NOT BE DRIVEN OVER 35 MPH DURING OR AFTER SNOW STORMS WITH WET HEAVY SNOW ON ROAD (SOMETIMES CAUSED BY SALTING ROADWAY). WHEEL WELL OPENING AROUND ALL FOUR TIRES ARE SO SMALL AND ENCLOSED, SNOW ACCUMULATES INTO SOLID ICE AROUND ALL FOUR TIRES AND BOTH AXLES BEGIN TO VIBRATE VIOLENTLY. DRIVER EITHER STOPS EVERY 8-10 MILES ALONG SIDE BUSY HIGHWAY TO CHOP ICE OUT (TAKES ME 40 MINUTES FOR ALL FOUR TIRE OPENINGS), SLOWS HIGHWAY TRAFFIC DOWN TO 30 MPH, OR GOES TO FORD DEALER. LOCAL DEALER SEES 6-10 OF THESE VEHICLES A DAY AND CHOPS ICE OUT AT NO CHARGE AND MAKES NO WORK ORDER HISTORY. TRAVELING AT ONLY 35 MPH WHEN TRAFFIC IS GOING 55 OR 70 MPH IS DANGEROUS. STOPPING EVERY 8-15 MINUTES ALONG BUSY HIGHWAY TO CHOP ICE WITH BACK TO PASSING TRAFFIC IS DANGEROUS. DEALERS DO NOT INFORM POTENTIAL BUYERS OF THE ICE PROBLEM. FORD HAS THIS DESIGN DEFECT PROBLEM WITH MORE THAN ONE MAKE OF VEHICLE, KNOWS ABOUT THE COMPLAINTS, BUT WILL NOT SPONSOR A SOLUTION. PERSONALLY, ALONG WITH CLEARING THE ICE ON M-115 AS I GO TO A DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT IN TRAVERSE CITY, CHOPPING ICE HURTS MY BONE ON BONE SHOULDERS AND THE LOWER THREE VERTEBRAE OF MY BACK THAT NO LONGER HAVE A DISC BETWEEN THEM. THE SLIPPERY SIDE OF ROAD IS DANGEROUS FOR MY TWO ARTIFICIAL HIPS AND IS SIMPLY NOT SAFE TO MY PERSON AND SLOWS DOWN SOME PASSING VEHICLES THAT MAY SLIP AND SLIDE INTO ME OR ONCOMING TRAFFIC OF THE ONLY 2 LANE HIGHWAY. NORTHERN MICHIGAN IS GETTING UNNECESSARILY MORE DANGEROUS IN THE WINTER TIME. THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE INCIDENTS AND THE INCIDENT DATE ABOVE IS ONLY APPROXIMATE.
THE SHIFTER CLICKS AS SOON AS I PUT THE GEAR IN PARK. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT IT IS NORMAL. I HAVE QUITE A FEW BAD EXPERIENCES WITH MY PREVIOUS CARS THAT I KNOW WHEN SOMETHING IS NOT NORMAL. TAKING THE CAR AGAIN TOMORROW SINCE IT KEEPS ON HAPPENING. IT'S ONLY BEEN 4 DAYS SO THE CAR SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS. *TR
EXHAUST COMING INTO THE CAB WHILE ACCELERATING.
HEADLIGHT ILLUMINATION OF ROADWAYS IS SEVERELY INADEQUATE. WE HAVE BOTH OBSERVED THIS ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED NEW IN DECEMBER 2012 (THE PRIMARY DRIVER IS A 5'5" FEMALE, THE SECONDARY DRIVER IS 5'10" MALE). THE HEADLIGHTS SEEM TO AIM TOO LOW AND LEAVE DARK SPOTS IN THE ROAD, PARTICULARLY WHEN TURNING IN EITHER DIRECTION. AND THE PROBLEM IS ONLY EXACERBATED WITH HIGHER SPEEDS. ILLUMINATION IS BETTER ON HIGH BEAM, BUT ONE CANNOT LEAVE HIGH BEAMS ENGAGED DURING NORMAL DRIVING. THESE ARE THE WORST HEADLIGHTS I'VE EVER SEEN ON A VEHICLE IN OVER 40 YEARS OF DRIVING INCLUDING CARS THAT I'VE DRIVEN FROM THE 50S, 60S, AND 70S, LET ALONE FOR A MODERN CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, CONTACT IN THE VEHICLE WOULD BECOME DIZZY AND NAUSEOUS FOR UNKNOWN REASONS. ONE PASSENGER BECAME VIOLENTLY ILL AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM FOR TREATMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SEALS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE EXHAUST FUMES WERE LEAKING INTO THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,500.
VEHICLE PURCHASED LATE NOVEMBER 2012,LATE DECEMBER 2012 AUTO HIGHBEAMS STARTED WORKING ERRATICALLY OR NOT AT ALL, OUTSIDE AIR TEMP WHEN THIS ISSUE STARTED WAS ABOUT 50DEGREES, FORD CLAIMS THAT ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL DECREASE THIS OPERATION, SUCH AS FOG, DIRTY WINDSHIELD, SNOW OR OTHER OBSTRUCTIONS TO THE CAMERA THAT OPERATES THE SYSTEM. UNDERSTANDABLE, BUT WINDSHIELD CLEAR NO OBSTRUCTIONS, YOU CAN SEE ON COMING TRAFFIC 3/4 TO A MILE AWAY OR FURTHER, LITES FAIL TO DIM OR GO BACK TO HIGHBEAM MODE AUTOMATICALLY. FORD NOW CLAIMS AFTER INSTALLING A NEW CAMERA THAT THE OUTSIDE AIR TEMP IS TO COLD FOR THE SYSTEM TO WORK, YET WHEN A FORD MECHANIC TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AT FORDS REQUEST HE FOUND THE SYSTEM, DIDN'T OPERATE, WOULD WORK FOR 2 OR 3 TIMES AS SUPPOSED TO, THAT THEN QUIT WORKING THIS WAS AT 20 DEGREE OUTSIDE TEMP. IN DRIVING THE CAR 20 TO 30 MILES THE SYSTEM WOULD OPERATE AND THE STOP WORKING AT WILL. FORD CANNOT FURNISH OR CLAIMS THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE OPERATING TEMP RANGE OF THE SYSTEM IS. AT NO TIME DURING THESE FAILURES WAS THERE ANY OBSTRUCTIONS TO THE CAMERA, WEATHER WAS CLEAR AND VISIBILITY WAS EXCELLENT. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP 3-4 TIMES AND STILL NOT FIXED, THE SUGGESTION FROM FORD IS THAT I WAIT FOR THE WEATHER TO WARM UP AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. NOTHING IN THE LITERATURE STATES ANYTHING ABOUT TEMPERATURE, ONLY ADVERSE CONDITIONS OR CAMERA OBSTRUCTION . I CAN NOT BELIEVE I AM THE ONLY PERSON IN NORTH AMERICA THAT HAS THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE OPTION, I HAVE SPOKEN TO OTHER OWNERS WITH VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THIS OPTION, AND THEY HAD NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS. TO THIS DATE I DO NOT BELIEVE TEMP IS THE PROBLEM AS IT HAS WORKED IN TEMPERATURES BELOW ZERO AT WILL. ANY INFORMATION OR ASSISTANCE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. *TR
AT ANY SPEED EXHAUST FUMES GET INTO PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. WITH VEHICLE IDLING AND CLIMATE CONTROL TO OFF POSITION, I LET IT IDLE 5 MIN. WHILE ENGAGING PASSING GEAR AT ROAD SPEEDS, CABIN FILLED WITH EXHAUST FUMES. THIS HAS CONTINUED FROM THAT TIME UNTIL PRESENT. VEHICLE HOW HAS 33000 MILES. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO LOCAL DEALER - [XXX] - ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WITH NO RESULTS IN STOPPING THE PROBLEM. THE LAST VISIT AFTER KEEPING OUR VEHICLE FOR 1.5 WEEKS , WE WERE TOLD THAT FORD COULD NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM AND THAT THE FACTORY WOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE UNDER ADVISEMENT - WHATEVER THAT MEANS. MEANWHILE THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO WORSEN WHILE EXHAUST FUMES NOW ENTER THE VEHICLE AT ALL STAGES OF OPERATION. WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY SEVERAL MECHANICS AND OTHER DEALERS NO TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH OUR GRAND BABIES. AS I WAS TURNING LEFT AT A LIGHT, MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT COMPLETELY IN THE CAR. I LOOKED DOWN AT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND IT WAS BRIGHT YELLOW AND SAID ADVANCE TRAC FAILURE. UNDER MEDIUM TO HARD ACCELERATION A STRONG SULFUR SMELL ENTERS THE CABIN THROUGH THE AIR CONDITIONING VENTS AND IT SMELLS VERY BAD. FAMILY OF FOUR AND CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT WE ARE ALL BREATHING IN. CONTACTED FORD AND THEY HAVE CONFIRMED IT AND THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND WHERE IT IS COMING FROM AND REFUSED TO FIX IT. MY CAR CONTINUES TO HAVE STINKY EXHAUST FUMES COMING INTO THE CABIN. WE HAVE THE RECYCLE SWITCH ON, BUT IT DOES NOTHING TO STOP THE FUMES FROM COMING IN. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT IF FUMES ARE COMING INTO THE CABIN OF THE CAR, IT IS NOT HEALTHY. IT'S AS IF FORD DOESN'T WANT TO ADMIT THEY HAVE A PROBLEM, OR THEIR NOSES ARE SO STOPPED UP THAT THEY CAN'T SMELL. FORD AND THEIR DEALERS ARE DISMISSING THE PROBLEM WHEN I KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM. FOWL SMELL WHILE DRIVING AND HAVING THE A/C ON. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN SEPT 2012, WHEN BROUGHT UP AT THE DEALER SERVICE CENTERS I WAS TOLD IT WAS JUST A DIRTY IN-CAB FILTER. RECENTLY TRADED A 2011 FORD EXPLORER FOR A 2013. THE 2011 DEVELOPED A CORROSION PROBLEM WITH THE SEAM ON THE FRONT UNDERSIDE EDGE OF THE HOOD. WE DID NOT WANT OUR 12K MILE CAR PAINTED ON SO WE TRADED IT FOR A 2013 FORD EXPLORER WE THOROUGHLY INSPECTED. 3 WEEKS AND 300 MILES LATER I OPENED THE HOOD WHILE CLEANING THE VEHICLE AND THE CORROSION HAS ALREADY STARTED CAUSING PAINT TO POP OFF THE UNDERSIDE ALONG THE SEAM SEALER. SO FAR FORD HAS FAILED TO TAKE ANY ACTION. FORD HAS A CORROSION / PAINT ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL AND OTHER'S WITH ALUMINUM HOODS.

HE SUCCEEDED WITH DIFFICULTY AS THERE WAS NO POWER TO THE BRAKES. EXTREME PAIN FOR DAYS, COVERED WITH EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL BRUISES. MRI REVEALED A ROTATOR CUFF TEAR IN LEFT SHOULDER. ENDURED MONTHS OF PAIN/LOSS OF MOBILITY WHILE FINISHING PROJECT IN CALIFORNIA. RETURNED HOME TO CONNECTICUT, ENDURED A DIFFICULT ROTATOR CUFF + LABRUM REPAIR SURGERY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND TWO TECHNICAL BULLETINS WERE ADDRESSED (ONE FOR A VIBRATION SOUND COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD WHICH WAS REPAIRED AND THE OTHER FOR THE EXHAUST ODOR IN THE CABIN). UPON COMPLETION OF THE FACTORY WARRANTIED TECHNICAL BULLETINS, THE ODOR REMAINED. UPON FURTHER REVIEW OF THE DOCUMENTATION, THE WRONG ODOR WAS ADDRESSED (RADIATOR FLUID, NOT GASOLINE EXHAUST). WHEN ACCELERATING RAPIDLY A STRONG EXHAUST ODOR ENTERS THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. ODOR RESULTS IN HEADACHE AND AT TIMES NAUSEA. HOWEVER, ODOR IS NOT AS PROMINENT IF THE CAR ACCELERATES GRADUALLY ONLY IF ACCELERATING QUICKLY IE...MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE MAY 10, 2012. I HAVE INQUIRED ABOUT THIS ISSUE MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN TO THE PURCHASING DEALER FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD EACH TIME THAT "NO PROBLEM COULD BE FOUND OR DUPLICATED".
