CHECK AIRBAG LIGHT IS CONSTANTLY ON MY 2015 FORD EXPLORER. TOOK IT IN TO GET CHECKED AND THE PROBLEM IS FAULTY WIRING TO THE MIDDLE ROW SEAT BELT AIRBAGS. THE FIX ISN'T COVERED BECAUSE MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE FIX IS $800. NOTHING RELATED TO THE AIRBAGS SHOULD EVER FAIL AND IF IT DOES, SHOULD BE COVERED REGARDLESS OF WARRANTY. THERE MAY NOT BE A CONCERN WITH HAVING MY REAR SEATBELT AIRBAGS NOT WORKING, BUT BECAUSE THE LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON, I HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING IF THERE IS A FAULT WITH MY FRONT AIRBAGS. WHEN I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP IF THIS IMPACTED THE FRONT AIRBAGS, THEY COULDN'T CONFIRM NOR DENY, THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW. FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS ISSUES SINCE 2015 WHEN THEY FIRST ISSUED THEIR TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN, TSB 15-0113 WHICH WAS THEN SUPERSEDED BY TSB 16-0001 IN 2016. I CALLED FORD CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE AND THEY REFUSED TO RECOGNIZE THIS IS A SAFETY ITEM THAT SHOULD BE COVERED
DTC B141B, AIR BAG LIGHT INTERMITTINGLY COMES ON. THIS ISSUE WAS REPORTED 2X WHILE UNDER WARRANTY BUT BY THE TIME I WOULD DROP AT DEALER FOR REPAIRS THE LIGHT WOULD RESET SO THEY COULDN'T SEE ISSUE. AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED THE LIGHT CAME ON MORE OFTEN, AND TODAY THEY WERE ABLE TO SEE INDICATOR AND GET DTC. SINCE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY NOW, IT WILL COST ME $750 TO GET MY AIR BAGS FIXED. I QUESTIONED WHY IT CANT BE FIXED BECAUSE IT WAS REPORTED 2X WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. IT IS ALMOST LIKE THEY DIDNT TRY TO FIND PROBLEM UNTIL AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED. NOW I DON'T HAVE WORKING AIRBAGS ON AN EXPENSIVE FORD EXPLORER SPORT. THIS IS MAKING ME CONCERNED IF FORD HAS POOR WIRING HARNESSES BECAUSE THESE VEHICLES HAVE SO MANY ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS. GUESS I'M SOL. I WILL TRY TO REPLACE THIS SUB PAR WIRING MYSELF TOMORROW.
TL* THE CONTACT WORKS FOR A COMPANY THAT OWNS A 2015 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT REACHED INSIDE THE VEHICLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS. THE CONTACT BECAME CAUGHT BETWEEN THE DOOR AND THE DRIVER'S SEAT WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS. THE CONTACT WAS DRAGGED FOR APPROXIMATELY 4-5 FEET BEFORE A TEENAGER IN THE VICINITY WAS ABLE TO ENTER THE VEHICLE, PLACE THE GEAR INTO PARK, AND STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE MIGHT HAVE INADVERTENTLY SHIFTED THE GEAR SHIFTER INTO REVERSE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A FRACTURE TO THE PELVIC BONE, LACERATIONS, AND POSSIBLE TORN LIGAMENTS IN THE HIP AND SHOULDER. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE AS TO WHAT HAPPENED TO THE VEHICLE SINCE THE INCIDENT. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,999.
ON MARCH 16, 2018 I RESPONDED TO LICCARDI FORD OF WATCHUNG NJ TO TRANSITION MY LEASED 2015 FORD EXPLORER XLT TO A PURCHASE. WITH FULL KNOWLEDGE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BEING USED FOR UBER RIDESHARE, THE DEALERSHIP FINANCE MANAGER SOLD ME A SECURE-NET (HOUSTON TX) EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR $2,723 KNOWING THAT THE COVERAGE AND CONTRACT WOULD BE VOIDED IF THE VEHICLE IS USED FOR RIDESHARE. ATTEMPTS TO CANCEL THE POLICY WITH A FULL REFUND HAS BEEN MADE IMPOSSIBLE DUE TO NEITHER SECURE-NET NOR THE DEALERSHIP CANCELING THE POLICY AND PROVIDING A REFUND. IT WOULD APPEAR THAT FORD DEALERSHIPS (AND OTHERS) ARE SELLING THESE POLICIES TO UNWARY VEHICLE CONSUMERS AND EVEN RIDESHARE OPERATORS WITHOUT TELLING THEM THAT USE F THEIR VEHICLE FOR RIDESHARE WILL VOID THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE. ANY AND ALL SECURE-NET EXTENDED VEHICLE WARRANTY POLICIES SOLD IN AMERICA SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND/OR RECALLED BEFORE VEHICLE OWNERS FIND THAT THEIR PURCHASED POLICY WILL NOT COVER OR PAY FOR ANY MECHANICAL ISSUE. LICCARDI FORD DID NOT TELL ME THAT THE SECURE-NET EXTENDED WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER MY RIDESHARE USE OF THE VEHICLE AND SECURE-NET DENIED MY CLAIM OF COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW IN FORD VEHICLES WHERE THE ENCASED WATER PUMP BREAKS AND LEAKS COOLANT INTO THE ENGINE AND OIL PAN RESULTING IN COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE. THE FORD EXTENDED WARRANTY WOULD HAVE COVERED THE REPAIR BUT LICCARDI FORD HAS FAILED TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION. THERE MAY BE MANY OTHER POTENTIAL VICTIMS WHO HAVE BEEN SOLD SECURE-NET EXTENDED WARRANTIES NOT KNOWING THAT THEY MAY BE VICTIMS SHOULD A REPAIR CLAIM BE DENIED. THIS HINGES ON CONSUMER FRAUD, IN MY OPINION. I WAS NOT SURE IF THIS COMPLAINT MET YOUR GUIDELINES, BUT OPTED TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THERE WAS NO WORDING OR ANYTHING IN THE BROCHURE TO INDICATE THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER RIDESHARE USE OF THE VEHICLE.
BEGINNING IN 2007 AND CONTINUING THROUGH THE PRESENT, FORD HAS EQUIPPED MILLIONS OF VEHICLES SOLD UNDER THE FORD, LINCOLN AND MERCURY BRAND NAMES WITH THE FORD CYCLONE ENGINE, ALSO KNOWN AS THE DURATEC ENGINE. UNBEKNOWNST TO PURCHASERS AND LESSEES OF THESE VEHICLES, THE FORD CYCLONE ENGINE CONTAINS A DEFECT IN DESIGN, MANUFACTURING, MATERIALS AND/OR WORKMANSHIP THAT CAUSES THE WATER PUMP TO SUDDENLY AND PREMATURELY FAIL'BEFORE THE END OF THE USEFUL LIFE OF THE ENGINE'AND CAN LEAD TO CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. ON MY 2015 FORD EXPLORER XLT, THE WATER PUMP WHICH IS ENCASED INSIDE THE CYCLONE/DURATEC ENGINE, BROKE AND LEAKED COOLANT WHICH WAS MIXED WITH THE OIL, TGE OIL PAN AND THE OIL PUMP CAUSING COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE. THERE WAS NO ADVANCE WARNING AND FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL ALTHOUGH A NUMBER OF MODELS HAVE BEEN AFFECTED. THIS CAUSED ME TO HAVE TO REPLACE MY ENGINE AT MY EXPENSE. FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS NOT TAKEN ANY STEPS TO RESOLVE MY OR THIS ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE OWNER HAVING TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE.
THE POLICE INTERCEPTOR UTILITY WAS BEING DRIVEN WITH WINDOWS DOWN IN A PARKING LOT WHEN A FOUL ODOR WAS SMELLED BY THE OFFICER, FOLLOWED BY THE CARBON MONOXIDE ALARM ACTIVATING. THE READING ON THE CO ALARM WAS 127 PPM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HILLTOP FORD AND A REPAIR WAS MADE TO THE EGR PURGE VALVE. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO SERVICE AND WITHIN A COUPLE OF DAYS THE CO ALARM ACTIVATED AGAIN, HOWEVER NO SMELL ACCOMPANIED THE ALARM. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN DURING THE ACTIVATION. THE CO ALARM IS A HONEYWELL BWC2R-M. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO HILLTOP FORD AND AFTER REMAINING WITH THEM FOR A MONTH, A FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER TESTED THE VEHICLE WITH SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT AND WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE COMPLAINT. NO REPAIR WAS MADE. ALL PRIOR RECALL WORK HAD BEEN PERFORMED ON THIS VEHICLE.
THE RACK AND PINION LOCKED UP AS WE WERE PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. I WAS 9M PREGNANT AND MY 4YR OLD WAS IN THE BACK. CANT HELP BUT THINK ABOUT WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED HAD IT LOCKED UP GOING AROUND A CURVE. THE REPAIR SHOP I TOOK IT TO SAID THIS WAS REALLY COMMON IN THE FORD EXPLORERS AND THEY HAVE 146 SERVICE RECORDS ON THIS ONE ISSUE.
WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, STEERING FAULT LIGHT CAME ON CAUSING VEHICLE TO LOSE POWER STEERING. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 50K MILES AND THE STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE REPLACED. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS, FORD HAS ALREADY RECALLED THIS ISSUE ON LATER YEARS. IT IS NEGLECTFUL THAT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE, KNOWING THAT CARS CAN LOSE POWER STEERING AT ANY MOMENT WHILE DRIVING, THIS ENDANGERS EVERYONE ON THE ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER SAFELY. DEALERSHIP QUOTED ME $2450 TO REPLACE. WORKED WITH FORD CUSTOMER SATISFACTION TEAM WHO WERE ABLE TO HELP IN REDUCING THE AMOUNT. BUT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FREE AND THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE RECALLED BEFORE ANYONE IS INJURED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE STRIP BEHIND THE HOOD DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS SURPRISED, LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, SWERVED, AND ALMOST CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE PART THAT DETACHED STRUCK THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TRI COUNTY FORD (4032 COMMERCE PKWY, BUCKNER, KY 40010, (866) 417-0262) AND REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,200.
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY WHEN THE STEERING FAILED. DEALER SAYS THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. VEHICLE HAS APPROX 80K MILES. I HAVE FOUND MANY INSTANCES OF THIS SAME OCCURRENCE WHEN SEARCHING ONLINE. FORTUNATELY IN THIS INSTANCE NO ACCIDENT OR INJURY BUT WHY HAS A RECALL NOT BEEN ISSUED AND WHY IS FORD IGNORING THE PROBLEM.
STEERING STARTED MAKING A "KNOCKING" NOISE WHEN MOVING THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS OCCURS WHILE IN PART OR IN MOTION. I WAS TOLD BY THE REPAIR SHOT AND MY 2015 EXPLORER WITH 45K MILES ON IT NEEDS TO HAVE THE RACK AND PINION REPLACED AT A COST OF $2100. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND APPARENTLY NO RECALL FOR THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION.
WHILE I WAS DRIVING 70MPH ON A FREEWAY, POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. SHOWING THE WARNING MESSAGES ON THE GAUGE CLUSTER. "POWER STEERING LOSS" "ADVANCE TRAC CONTROL FAULT" I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO A SIDE OF THE FREEWAY SAFELY AS THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND MUST BE RECALLED. MY EXPLORER HAS ABOUT 53K MILES.
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH ON BERKSHIRE SPUR OF THE NYS THRUWAY WHERE THE ROADWAY WAS STRAIGHT WITH A SLIGHT INCLINE, THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE FRONT AXLE CARRIER BEARING BROKE. THIS ALLOWED THE AXLE TO PULL FROM THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOSE ALL DRIVE POWER. LUCKILY IT WAS EARLY AND THERE WAS LIMITED TRAFFIC, WE WERE ABLE TO MOVE OVER TO THE SLOW LANE AND THEN COAST TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD
MY PARKING BRAKE WONT ENGAGE. APPEARED AT 57K MILES. APPARENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL BUT NOT ON MY VEHICLE SPECIFICALLY.
STEERING ASSIST ERROR CAME ON DASH ALONG WITH TERRAIN CONTROL ERROR WHILE DRIVING DOWN ROAD. LOST POWER STEERING ABILITY. LUCKILY IT WAS CLOSE TO HOME WHEN FAILED OR COULD OF HAPPENED WHEN IN TRAFFIC AND A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT COULD OF HAPPENED. TOOK TO MECHANIC AND SAID NEW STEERING RACK NEEDED. THIS WAS A RECALL ON THE SAME CAR A FEW YEARS OLDER. CAR IS ALSO BEING TAKEN IN NEXT WEEK FOR REAR SUSPENSION RECALL.
AFTER LEAVING MY COMMUNITY PROPERTY WITH MY 2015 FORD EXPLORER, I TURNED LEFT AT APPROXIMATELY 5-15 MILES PER HOUR AND SUDDENLY I HEARD A CLANK/SCRAPE AND LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE (IMAGE 1). SEE SCRAP ON CEMENT WHERE VEHICLE CONTROL WAS LOST IN THE STREET. VEHICLE STOPPED AT END OF SKID MARKS (IMAGE 2). AFTER TURNING LEFT (EAST) , I IMMEDIATELY LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE WHERE ORANGE VAN IS LOCATED, WHICH IS BELIEVED DUE TO AXLE BREAK (IMAGE 2). AFTER LOSING CONTROL, VEHICLE VEERED LEFT TOWARDS CURVE. I CONTINUED TO FIGHT FOR CONTROL AND VEHICLE HIT THE CURVE WHILE VEHICLE WAS HEADED BETWEEN TWO TREES TOWARDS HOMES. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO MOMENTARILY GAIN CONTROL BEFORE VEHICLE WENT DOWN EMBANKMENT AND RETURN VEHICLE TO MAIN ROAD. SEE SKID MARKS. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAD 75,038 MILES. THE FORD DEALERSHIP SAID THAT MY CONTROL ARM BROKE WHICH CAUSED THE INCIDENT. HOWEVER, THEY WOULD NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE REPAIR.
AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AFTER THE CHILDREN GOT BUCKLED INTO THE SECOND-ROW SEAT. UPON GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP TO FIND THE PROBLEM, WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WILL COST OVER $800 TO REPAIR THE SEATBELT AIRBAG CONNECTIONS! SEARCHING ONLINE I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN THAT WAS ISSUED BACK IN 2015, BUT IT DOES NOT SEEM THAT A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. THIS SEEMS LIKE A PROBLEM THAT IS BEING EXPERIENCED BY MANY VEHICLES AND I WANTED TO POINT IT OUT TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A RECALL. FORD EXPLORER 2014-2016: BULLETIN INFORMATION INVOLVING VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH SECOND ROW INFLATABLE SEAT BELTS MAY EXHIBIT AN AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED WITH DTC B141B AND B141C.
THE STEERING MAKES LOUD METAL NOISES WHEN TURNING AT SLOW SPEEDS (LIKE PARKING OR TIGHT TURNS). IT ALSO MAKES GRINDING NOISES WHEN TURNING PRIMARILY TO THE RIGHT. THE STEERING HAS LOCKED ON US TWICE IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS! DEALER SUGGESTS THAT THE ELECTRONIC STEERING GEAR HAS GONE BAD. ON GOOGLE SEARCH, WE SEE THAT HUNDREDS OF CUSTOMERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. HOW CAN SUCH A CRITICAL COMPONENT AND SAFETY ISSUE NOT BE RECALLED AND FIXED BY FORD. DEALER TELLS US THAT THE STEERING COULD LOCK WHILE DRIVING CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT. WE ARE TAKING THE CAR FOR REPAIRS HOPING THAT NHSTA AND FORD CAN ISSUE A FORMAL RECALL OF SUCH A DANGEROUS ISSUE.
DURING ACCELERATION WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER RUNNING, THERE IS A SMELL OF ROTTEN EGGS IN THE CABIN. WHEN IT HAPPENS MYSELF AND OTHERS IN THE CAR WILL EXPERIENCE LIGHT HEADEDNESS AND HEADACHES. ADDITIONALLY, MY PARTNER EXPERIENCED THE HEADACHE AND VOMITED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD DUE TO THE SMELL. IT SMELLS LIKE EXHAUST FUMES AND ROTTEN EGGS, WHICH IS CLEARLY FROM THE EXHAUST. THE FACT THAT THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL REGARDING THIS ISSUE IS CRIMINAL.
THERE IS A LEAK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE CAR IN THE FRONT AND NOW THERE IS STANDING WATER ON THE FLOOR THAT LEAKS THROUGH WHEN THERE IS A RAINSTORM. THERE IS ALSO A SIGNIFICANT LEAK WHERE THE LIGHTS ARE BY THE MOON ROOF . THE WATER IS SATURATING THE CEILING AND DRIPS ON THE RADIO AND OTHER PARTS OF THE CAR. THE SUNROOF NO LONGER WORKS. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME IT RAINS AND WHEN IT IS STATIONARY. THE CEILING LIGHTS WILL FILL UP WITH WATER AND DRIP AS WELL. SINCE THERE IS NO HEAT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR I AM UNABLE TO CLEAR THE WINDSHIELD OF ANY FOG WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS.THERE ARE FORUMS ON THIS ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND I KNOW 2 OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THEIR FORDS.
THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND THIS IS WHAT THE CODE SAYS. RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE INFLATABLE SEATBELT DEPLOYMENT CONTROL
WHILE DRIVING MY 2015 FORD EXPLORER (46K MILES) AT ABOUT 50MPH, THE EXPLORER UNEXPECTEDLY BECAME COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND THEN BACK ON. THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT OFF AND IT SEEMED TO BE FINE. I DROVE ANOTHER 2 OR 3 MILES AND IT DID IT AGAIN! I WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY TO FIND A PLACE TO PULL OFF THRU THE CONSTRUCTION SITE I WAS IN. TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AGAIN AND THEN BACK ON WHICH RESET EVERYTHING AGAIN. I FINALLY GOT THE EXPLORER HOME ABOUT 4 MILES WITHOUT ANY MORE ISSUES. THE NEXT DAY TOOK I TOOK IT TO MY AUTO REPAIR SHOP. THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY WHICH SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE EMISSIONS WARRANTY. (THERE WERE NO PROBLEM CODES SAVED BY THE CAR'S COMPUTER BUT THEY WERE GOING BY EXPERIENCE). I TOOK IT IMMEDIATELY TO A FORD DEALERSHIP WHICH VERIFIED IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY OR RECALL. I RELUCTANTLY PAID $85 PARTS, $379 LABOR AND $38 "SHOP SUPPLIES" FOR A TOTAL OF $535.
TAKATA RECALL I HAVE A FORD EXPLORER 2015 MILEAGE APPROXIMATELY 42,865 . I HAVE HAD 2 OCCASIONS WHERE THE STEERING HAS FAILED. LAST TIME WAS AUGUST 17,2019. I HAD NO CONTROL OVER .THE STEERING . I WAS TRAVELING 30 MILES PER HOUR AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR BEFORE HAVING AN ACCIDENT . I CONTACTED PARAMOUNT AUTOMOTIVE GROUP IN VALDESE NC AUGUST 20 2019 AND SPOKE TO THE SERVICE PERSON ABOUT THIS SERIOUS ISSUE. THE SERVICE PERSON SAID TO BRING THE EXPLORER IN TO BE CHECKED OUT. I ALSO WAS ABLE TO GET A FORD EXPLORER SUSPENSION RECALL FIX TO BE WORKED IN AS WELL. I LEFT THE EXPLORER AND WAS CONTACTED BY THE SERVICE PERSON THAT THE STEERING HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THE STEERING NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AT A COST OF $1,750. WARRANTY ENDED AT 36,000. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH TO OUT THAT THERE ARE A LARGE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS BEING FILED FOR LOW MILEAGE FOR 2015 FORDEXPLORERS WITH STEERING ISSUES. I HAVE PLANS TO CONTACT FORD CUSTOMER SATISFACTION TO THIS SERIOUS DEFECTED STEERING PROBLEM. I HAVE CONCERNS WITH THE FORD REPLACEMENT STEERING THAT IT MAY AS WELL HAVE FUTURE ISSUES. I DO NOT KNOW AT THIS TIME IF FORD HAS MADE ANY ANNOUNCEMENTS TO CORRECT AND NOT HARM THE OWNER. THE PAST TWO DAYS I'VE BECOME INCREDIBLY DIZZY, NAUSEOUS AND A VERY DULL HEADACHE. I NOTICED I FELT FINE WHEN I WOKE BUT DURING MY COMMUTE I REALLY STARTED FEELING ILL AND HAD A HARD TIME WITH MY EYES WHEN I TRIED TO FOCUS ON THE BUMPER STICKER ON THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD VERY BAD VERTIGO, WHICH HASN'T EVER AFFECTED ME PRIOR TO THESE PAST TWO DAYS. MY HUSBAND RECALLED READING A NEWS STORY AND WHEN I LOOKED IT UP- SURE ENOUGH A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR CARBON MONOXIDE ISSUES.
When making a right hand turn I noticed that the car began making knocking/thumping noises. Shortly after those noises began, when I attempted to turn left the steering wheel got stuck in the left turn position. I had to jerk the steering wheel hard to get it to straighten out. If I had not been able to get it straightened out I could have driven off the road or into oncoming traffic. Ford had to replace the entire steering rack and the dealership acknowledged that this is a known issue for 2015 Explorers.
MY BACK UP CAMERA AND SENSOR WILL NOT WORK ALL THE TIME. SOMETIMES THE PICTURE WILL SHOW UP ON MY SCREEN, SOMETIMES IT WILL NOT WITH THE NOTIFICATION TO CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP, AND OTHER TIMES NOTHING THE TOUCH SCREEN WITH NOT SHOW ANYTHING AND THE SENSOR WILL NOT BEEP. FRONT SWAY BAR LINKS HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WERE BROKE. I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR THE RECALL OF THE REAR SUSPENSION. I HAVE NOT HIT ANYTHING OR BEEN IN A WRECK SO THERE IS NO REASON FOR THIS TO HAVE BEEN BROKE.
WHEN HAVING THE RECALLS FIXED ON MY EXPLORER THE BACK LIFTGATE IS NOT CENTER EVEN THE DEALERSHIP FIXING IT SAID IT WAS NOT ALSO. THEY INFORMED ME I WOULD NEED TO BRING IT TO A BODY SHOP TO HAVE IT FIXED. I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OR HIT ANYTHING SO THERE IS NO REASON FOR IT NOT TO BE CENTERED.
I PURCHASED A 2015 FORD EXPLORER SPORT WITH 90K MILES FROM A FORD DEALER IN DECEMBER.A WEEK LATER I NOTICED THAT EVERY TIME I TURNED RIGHT I WOULD HEAR A CLICKING NOISE. I ALSO HEARD A HUMMING NOISE FROM THE WHEELS. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND EXPLAINED TO THEM THE ISSUE. I TOLD THEM THAT IF THEY DON'T FIX THE ISSUE I WAS GONNA RETURN THE CAR BACK TO THEM. THEY CHANGED THE WHEEL BEARINGS AND THE HUMMING NOISE DECREASED. THE TECHNICIAN SAID HE TIGHTENED SOMETHING FROM THE SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT AND THAT'S WHAT WAS MAKING THE CLICKING SOUND. MONTHS LATER AS WE CONTINUED DRIVING THE CAR THE CLICKING WOULD HAPPEN ON OCCASION. I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT THAT IT WAS SOMETHING IN THE SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT. SO I LOOKED ALL OVER THE PLACE AND NOTHING THE NOISE CONTINUED OCCASIONALLY. NOW IN JULY IT BEGAN HAPPENING MORE OFTEN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND HAD TO PAY A DIAGNOSTIC FEE EVEN THOUGH I TOLD THEM ITS THE SAME ISSUE AS BEFORE. NOW A DIFFERENT TECHNICIAN SAYS THAT THE STEERING RACK AND PINION IS BROKEN AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED OR THE STEERING WHEEL COULD LOCK UP ON US ON THE ROAD AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I ASKED WHY THEY DIDN'T TELL ME THAT THE FIRST TIME AND HE COULDN'T EXPLAIN. SO I'VE BEEN DRIVING A TIME BOMB FOR MONTHS. THE 2011-2014 MODEL HAD A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY WOULDN'T INCLUDE ALL THE YEARS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THE STEERING SYSTEM SHOULD BE THE MOST RELIABLE PART OF THE CAR BECAUSE IT ENSURES THAT YOU'RE IN CONTROL OF YOU SAFETY. I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE STEERING RACK AND PINION FOR THIS VEHICLE.
WHEN STEERING LEFT OR RIGHT AT A STANDSTILL, STEERING MAKES A POPPING OR CLICKING NOISE. MY GUESS IS IT IS EITHER RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY OR SUSPENSION PARTS. IN ADDITION, REAR END HAS A BAD RATTLE EVEN ON SMOOTH ROADS. THERE IS ABOUT 59,500 MILES ON THE SUV AND IT WAS JUST STATE INSPECTED. WE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. CHECKED COMPLAINT BOARDS AND THERE ARE MANY SIMILAR PROBLEMS.
WARNING 'TRANSMISSION NOT IN PARK' HAS BEEN POPPING UP FOR APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS. NOTICED A LEAK ON GARAGE FLOOR THAT DEALERSHIP STATED IS A LEAK FROM THE PTU. DEALERSHIP STATED THE REAR DRIVE TRAIN NEEDS REPLACED DUE TO THIS LEAK. VEHICLE HAS 67,XXX MILES AND IS 7,XXX MILES OUT OF POWER TRAIN WARRANTY.
FAULTY AIRBAG SENSOR, DEALER REPAIRS ARE NOT GUARANTEED AND THE PROBLEM IS NOT REPAIRABLE UNDER WARRANTY. CURRENTLY THE VEHICLE HAS 86728 MILES. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN IT FIRST CAME ON.
IN DECEMBER 2018 I TOLD MY LOCAL FORD SERVICE MANAGER OF MY VEHICLE GIVING ME A WARNING THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS NOT IN PARK OCCASIONALLY, THIS EVEN WHEN IT WAS. AT TIMES I WOULD HAVE TO RE-START THE VEHICLE, OR PLAY WITH THE GEAR SHIFT ITSELF TO GET IT TO STOP THE WARNING AND RETURN MY STEERING WHEEL AND SEAT TO ORIGINAL POSITIONS. OVER THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS THIS HAS BECOME MORE OF AN ISSUE AS IT WAS HAPPENING ON A DAILY BASIS. WHEN I TOOK IT IN RECENTLY FOR A RECALL ON ANOTHER ISSUE THE SERVICE MANAGER DID INFORM ME THERE IS A TSB #17-2219 FOR THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE. AFTER FURTHER REVIEW I FOUND THAT THE TSB COVERS FIVE PARTICULAR FORD MODELS AND THREE LINCOLN MODELS SPANNING THE YEARS 2011-2017. BECAUSE THIS WAS NOW A PROBLEM I WAS DEALING WITH ON A DAILY BASIS I HAD THEM REPLACE THE SHIFTER AS SUGGESTED AT 68,033 MILES. WHAT IS UPSETTING IS THAT THIS IS NOT BEING COVERED UNDER ANY TYPE OF RECALL. THIS IS NOT A PART THAT SHOULD FAIL AT 62,000 MILES WHEN I FIRST REPORTED THE ISSUE, AND IT IS NOT SOMETHING THAT SHOULD COVER AS MANY MODELS AS IT DOES FOR A SIX YEAR PERIOD OF TIME. HOW COULD VEHICLES START TO HAVE THESE ISSUES IN 2011, BUT THE MANUFACTURER STILL CONTINUE TO USE THESE RELAYS OR SHIFTERS FOR AN ADDITIONAL SIX YEARS? IF THEY ARE NEGLIGENT IN NOT CORRECTING THE PROBLEM, WHY SHOULD THE CONSUMER BE ON THE HOOK FOR FORD USING DEFECTIVE COMPONENTS?
BOTH EXHAUST MANIFOLDS WERE CRACKED. REMOVED AND DRILLED OUT BROKEN STUDS AND INSTALLED NEW CONVERTERS. I HEARD A NOISE FOR A DAY OR TWO AND BROUGHT IT IN AND THEY SAID THIS WAS THE ISSUE. I MAINTAIN MY VEHICLE REGULARLY AT THE FORD DEALER AND NEVER INDICATED A PROBLEM. THEY SAID NO RECALL BUT I GOOGLED IT AND I SEE MANY COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME ISSUE FOR MY YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL.
WASTEGATE ISSUES. DECREASE IN POWER AND ACCELERATION CAUSING SAFETY HAZARDS WHILE DRIVING. PULLED ONTO A HIGHWAY WHILE IN TRAFFIC (65MPH) AND I COULDN'T ACCELERATE AS NEEDED WHEN PULLING ONTO A HIGHWAY AND WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE EXPLORER HAS SUDDENLY SHUT DOWN ON TWO OCCASIONS. THE FIRST TIME (JULY 2019) I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 50 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO CRUISE OFF INTO A MEDIAN. THE SECOND TIME (AUG 5, 2019) I WAS COMING OFF AN ON RAMP ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 60 MPH. ONCE AGAIN THE CAR SUDDENLY POWERED OFF. I WAS LUCKY TO BE IN THE FAR RIGHT LANE AND WAS ABLE TO CRUISE OFF INTO A WIDE GRASSY AREA. THE TRAFFIC I WAS MERGING INTO WAS AT 70 MPH. IN BOTH INSTANCES THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS THE CAR LOSES POWER AND YOU HAVE PRACTICALLY NO CONTROL OVER THE STEERING OR BRAKES. IF I HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO CRUISE OFF AND/OR HAD BEEN IN THE CENTER LANE OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY I COULD HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED BY VEHICLES AT HIGH SPEEDS. IN BOTH INSTANCES, ONCE I WAS OFF THE ROAD I TURNED THE CAR OFF, WAITED A FEW SECONDS, AND RESTARTED. THE CAR STARTED BACK UP NORMALLY AND THEN SEEMED TO WORK OK. IT'S LIKE THE ELECTRICAL OR SOFTWARE SYSTEM REQUIRES A 'RESET'. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS IT OCCURS WITH NO WARNING AND THE DRIVER CANNOT CONTROL THE CAR AND MUST COME TO A STOP TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTART.

THE CONTACT CALLED MILLER BROTHERS FORD (9035 BALTIMORE NATIONAL PIKE, ELLICOTT CITY, MD 21042, (410) 505-8633) WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD HAVE TO OCCUR IN THEIR PRESENCE IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON ALL OF THE TIME ON 2015 FORD EXPLORER. FORD DEALERSHIP IN CHESTERFIELD, MO INDICATED THE ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1600. THEY HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. SERVICE PERSON INDICATED THAT AIR BAGS MAY NOT DEPLOY IF IN AN ACCIDENT WHEN AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IS ON. DUE TO THE FUNDAMENTAL SAFETY ISSUE WITH A HARDWARE FLAW (NOT WEAR AND TEAR), I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL DUE TO THE RISK TO PUBLIC SAFETY.
STARTED CAR AND PUT IN REVERSE AND NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WAS NOT WORKING NORMALLY AND THEN NOTICED THE POWER STEERING FAULT ASSIST AND SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC NOTIFICATION. ALSO AT THE SAME TIME, THE TURN SIGNAL WOULD NOT STAY ENGAGED. I MANAGED TO DRIVE 100 MILES HOME WITH "MANUAL STEERING" ON THE HIGHWAY AND NEEDED TO USE ONE HAND TO CHANGE LANES. IF THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED GOING 60 MILES PER HOUR, AN ACCIDENT OR WORSE, LOSE OF LIFE, AS WHAT HAPPENED WAS UNEXPECTED AND STEERING WAS VERY DIFFICULT. THIS VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT 1/2/15 AND THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED AT 26,100 MILES AND THE REPAIR COST $2,147.25 AT THE FORD DEALER BY MY HOUSE. SINCE FORD WAS ABLE TO REPLACE THE ASSEMBLY THE SAME DAY LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND STOCK THE PARTS AND LOOKING AT OTHER COMPLAINTS ONLINE, AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH FORD VEHICLES IN GENERAL. FORD HAD A 1.1 MILLION RECALL FOR THIS ON THE 2011-2013 VEHICLES AND THEY NEVER FIXED THE ISSUE GOING FORWARD. A RECALL NEEDS TO BE DONE.

I DID NOT EXPERIENCE AN ISSUE STEERING AT THE TIME. ONCE I PULLED OFF THE INTERSTATE I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE ALERT WENT AWAY. 5 DAYS LATER I WAS DIVING IN THE CITY AND THE "STEERING FAULT ASSIST" LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN FOLLOWED BY "ADVANCE TRAK WARNING." I LOST POWER STEERING IMMEDIATELY. I GOT TO AN AREA TO PULL OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. BOTH WARNINGS IMMEDIATELY CAME BACK ON. I WAS OVER 4 HOURS FROM HOME, SO I HAD TO DRIVE OVER 250 MILES WITHOUT POWER STEERING. I CALLED MULTIPLE FORD SERVICE LOCATIONS IN MY AREA, ONLY ONE WOULD TAKE IT AND LOOK AT IT WITHIN THE WEEK. I FOUND OUT TODAY THAT FOLLOWING A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, I AM NEEDING TO REPLACE THE ELECTRONIC STEERING GEAR AS IT FAILED INTERNALLY. FORD QUOTED ME $2000 + TAX TO FIX IT. AFTER GOING ONLINE, I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENING WITH OTHER FORD EXPLORER OWNERS. I AM COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD!

THE EXHAUST SMELL IS OVERWHELMING WHEN YOU HAVE TO ACCELERATE OVER 3,500 RPMS. THIS IS SOMETIMES NECESSARY WHEN ON HIGHWAYS OR WHEN TRAVELING UP A HILL AT HIGHER SPEEDS. IT IS NOT SAFE TO INHALING EXHAUST FUMES WITHIN THE CABIN. I WORRY ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MY CHILD IN THIS VEHICLE DUE TO THIS ISSUE.
Exterior A-pillar trim and rubber strip on both sides has detached from vehicle on the highway. The sides got detached on separate occasions. While driving on the highway, the driver side rubberstrip got detached in one end, starting to flap back and forth over the windscreen, making a lot of noise and obstructing the view. The trim did not come off that time. The passenger side entire trim flew off completely on the highway causing a hazard for other drivers. There is a recall, 24S02 since 2 years ago in relation to this but Ford has not yet been able to address the issue. I received another letter from them to immediately call the dealer to schedule inspection and repair. However, the dealer keeps telling me that the parts have been on backorder for over a year and they cannot address the issue without the parts. How long is it reasonable to wait for this hazard to be addressed?
AN AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON WHILE CAR WAS STATIONARY. DEALER SAID THERE IS A WIRING PROBLEM UNDERNEATH REAR SEATS, AND WAS UNSURE IF AIRBAGS WOULD FUNCTION PROPERLY DUE TO THE ISSUE. DEALER WAS UNSURE WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED ISSUE. THIS APPEARS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE, AND A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH SHOWS THAT OTHER 2015 FORD EXPLORER OWNERS ARE HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES.
