IN JUNE 2016, I TOOK MY FORD EXPLORE TO GURLEY LEEP KIA FORD IN SOUTH BEND INDIANA DUE TO A ROTTEN EGG SMELL IN THE CABIN AREA. THEY REPLACE THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND SEALED THE REAR TELLING ME THAT EXHAUST WAS LEAKING INTO THE CABINET AREA AND THAT WAS THE EXCLAMATION FOR THE ROTTEN EGG SMELL. AT THAT POINT I HAD ONLY HAD MY VEHICLE LESS THAN SEVEN MONTHS. ON AUGUST 2, 2017 WE TOOK MY FORD EXPLORER BACK TO GURLEY LEEP KIA FORD AND SOUTH BEND INDIANA WITH THE SAME COMPLAINTS AS WELL AS THE MAIN DRIVER MYSELF EXPERIENCING NAUSEA HEADACHES TROUBLE CONCENTRATION VOMITING AND BLURRED VISION. I HAVE BEEN ATTENDING COLLEGE AND WORKING FULL-TIME WITH HIS REQUIRED INCREASED DRIVING IN MYSELF BEING IN THE VEHICLE WHICH WOULD EXPLAIN THE INTERMITTENT HEADACHES AND NAUSEA AS WELL AS THE FLAREUP OF SYMPTOMS AFTER BEING IN MY VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY 4 1/2 HOURS. DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WAS DONE AND IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT AGAIN EXHAUST WAS LEAKING INTO THE CABIN AREA THE REPAIRS WERE THE SAME REPLACE THE EXHAUST AND RESEAL THE BACK, HOWEVER THIS TIME THEY STATED THAT FORD WOULD NOT COVER THE COST OF THESE REPAIRS AS IT IS NO LONGER UNDER FORDS WARRANTY AND WE WERE ADVISED THE COST OF REPAIRS WOULD BE NEAR $3000. THERE ARE TWO TSB'S OUT ON THIS ISSUE I FEEL THAT SHOULD'VE BEEN COVERED BY FORD AT THIS POINT THEY SHOULD REPLACE MY VEHICLE IT IS BEEN PROVEN TWICE AND DOCUMENTED THAT CARBON MONOXIDE/EXHAUST IS LEAKING INTO THE CABIN AREA. I DO HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY CALLED ROUTE 66 THEY WILL NOT COVER THIS AS WELL. WE ALSO WERE ADVISED THAT FORD EXPLORERS ARE KNOWN FOR HAVING A FRONT STRUT MOUNT ISSUE BOTH OF MINE WE WERE ADVISED WERE BAD AND IT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $500 TO HAVE A PLACE TO MY KNOWLEDGE THERE ARE NO TSB'S BUT THE DEALER SEEMED PRETTY AWARE OF THIS AND NOT SURPRISED.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY I PASSED OUT AND DROVE OFF THE HIGHWAY. I WAS JOLTED AWAKE AFTER HITTING BUMPS ON THE SIDE ON THE ROAD. I FORCED A SEMI OFF THE ROAD. REGAINED CONTROL AND STOPPED AT THE NEXT EXIT. TOOK CAR TO FORD DEALER AND FOUND TSB 16-0165 RELATED TO ISSUE. HAD CAR REPAIRED, I'M NOT REALLY SURE IF IT IS FIXED.
WHEN THE THROTTLE IS DEPRESSED FULLY DURING PASSING OR INCREASING SPEED THERE IS A ODOR INSIDE THE CABIN OF VEHICLE. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE THROTTLE IS FULLY DEPRESSED.
EXHAUST FUMES FILL CABIN UNDER HARD ACCELERATION. IT HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS, WE PURCHASED CAR NEW IN ~ MAY 2015. TYPICALLY WE CAN LIMIT BY ACCELERATING SLOWER THAN DESIRED, WHICH CAN BE UNSAFE WHEN ENTERING THE HIGHWAY. AFTER HARD ACCELERATION HAS ENDED AND YOU MAINTAIN STEADY SPEED THE FUMES NO LONGER SEEM TO ENTER THE CABIN. FUMES CAN BE VERY STRONG AND ROLLING DOWN WINDOWS IS THE ONLY WAY TO CLEAR. IT SEEMS TO MOSTLY HAPPEN WITH REAR AIR CONDITIONING IN TURNED ON, BUT NOT SURE. I PUT TODAYS DATE BELOW, BUT THIS HAPPENS OFTEN. I HAVE READ ONLINE AND SPOKEN TO DEALERS IN THE PAST AND NO FIX SEEMS TO BE AVAILABLE SO WE HAVE DONE ARE BEST TO AVOID WITH SLOW ACCELERATION, BUT WE CAN NOT BE CERTAIN THAT NO FUMES ARE ENTERING CAR. BOTH MY WIFE AND I SEEM TO GET MORE HEAD ACHES THAN IN THE PAST AND THIS COULD BE THE CAUSE.
I'M IN MY EXPLORER SOMETIMES FOR ABOUT 10 TO 13 HOURS A DAY FOR MY JOB FOR THE LAST YEAR I HAVE BEEN BATTLING HEALTH PROBLEMS LIGHT HEADEDNESS AND LOW BLOOD PRESSURE THE DOCTORS HAVE BEEN RUNNING TEST EVERYTHING CAME BACK O.K. HAVE ALWAYS SMELLED AN ORDER IN MY CAR SOMETIMES BUT I WASN'T AWARE OF THE ISSUES NOW I TAKE MY EXPLORER IN FOR SERVICE EVERY 8 WEEKS AND I WAS NEVER ASKED IF THERE WAS AN SMELL OR ANYTHING AND NOW I SEE THEY POSSIBLE COULD OF DONE SOME REPAIRS UNDER A SILENT TSB NOTHING WAS NEVER DONE I BROUGHT THIS UP TO MY DOCTOR AND THEY BELIEVE THIS COULD BE THE PROBLEM UNFORTUNATELY TO TEST FOR CO POISONING I HAVE TO GO FOR TEST WHEN I FEEL DIZZY AND WEAK.IM GOING TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER TO SEE WHAT THEY SAY BUT THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD TO THE CAR OWNERS.
WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH OF PURCHASE OF MY BRAND NEW 2015 EXPLORER WE STARTED SMELLING AN ODD ORDER COMING INTO THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE ANY TIME YOU ACCELERATED. IT WOULD BE EXTREMELY BAD WHEN ON THE HIGHWAY TRYING TO PASS ANOTHER CAR THAT YOU WOULD HAVE TO ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AND TOOK IT IN AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE ISSUE. I ASKED IF THEY TOOK IT OUT ON THE HIGHWAY AND WAS TOLD NO. I THINK THE DEALERSHIP I USED WAS BIASED AGAINST WOMEN AND THEY DISMISSED MY CLAIM. I FINALLY HAD TO TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP WHO FOUND A "FIX" AND JUST INSTALLED THE NEW PARTS A MONTH AGO. I JUST TOOK A 329 MILE TRIP AND THE ISSUE STILL EXISTS. I HAVE CALLED AGAIN FOR ANOTHER APPOINTMENT AND AM WAITING TO TAKE IT IN. I'M CONCERNED THAT MY YOUNGEST CHILD WHO SITS I THE BACK SEAT KEEPS GETTING SICK TO HIS STOMACH WHEN RIDING IN THE CAR. I'M AFRAID HE'S GETTING CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. LET ME MAKE CLEAR THE SMELL IS WORSE IN THE BACK CABIN OF THE CAR, BUT THE FRONT PASSENGERS GET IT AS WELL. IT TOOK OVER TWO MONTHS FOR FORD TO PUT THE NEW PARTS ON MY CAR AND I'M CONCERNED IT'S GOING TO TAKE ANOTHER FEW MONTHS TO GET SOMETHING ELSE DONE TO "FIX" THE ISSUE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE AS THESE CARS AREN'T SAFE TO DRIVE AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO BUY A NEW ONE. I WILL BE UPSIDE DOWN IF I TRY TO TRADE THIS IN. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN AND THE ACCELERATOR IS BEING PUSHED.
PASSENGER CABIN FILLS WITH EXHAUST FUMES DURING RAPID ACCELERATION.
PURCHASED MY VEHICLE IN JULY 2017. DUE TO AN UNRELATED POWER ISSUE THAT OCCURRED UNDER FULL THROTTLE, I HAD TO DRIVE MY CAR ON A LOT OF FULL THROTTLE RUNS AT HIGHWAY SPEED TO HELP THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. THIS WENT ON FOR WEEKS, TRYING TO GET THE DEALERSHIP TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. AFTER THEY ALLEGEDLY FINALLY FIXED THE PROBLEM. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE MY EXPLORER VIGOROUSLY ON THE HIGHWAY TO MAKE SURE THE POWER ISSUE WAS CORRECTED, (THAT ISSUE IS NOT MY COMPLAINT AS IT APPEARS TO BE FIXED). HOWEVER DURING ALL THESE WEEKS OF FREQUENTLY DRIVING AT HIGH RPMS, I HAD HEADACHES ALMOST EVERY TIME I GOT TO MY DESTINATION. I SELDOM GET HEADACHES AND CERTAINLY NOT ALMOST DAILY. DURING CERTAIN TIMES, DEPENDING ON HOW LONG MY TRIP WAS, I ALSO SMELLED WHAT SEEMED TO BE STRONG FUMES, EVEN WHEN THERE WERE NO VEHICLES NEARBY OR IN FRONT OF ME. I RECENTLY LEARNED THAT THERE WERE OTHER EXPLORER OWNERS HAVING ISSUES. TO MY SHOCK, I SAW THAT A LOT OF OWNERS WERE STATING THAT THEY WERE NOTICING THE FUMES WHEN THE CAR WAS DRIVEN HARD, WHICH IS THE KIND OF DRIVING I HAD BEEN DOING WHEN I NOTICED THE FUMES, AND NORMALLY WOULD NOT HAVE. I HAVE GOTTEN TO WHERE I HAVE TO FEATHER THE PEDAL DURING DRIVING TO MINIMIZE THE ODOR OF FUMES. I ALSO HAVE A PREGNANT WIFE WHO I WON'T ALLOW IN THE VEHICLE ANYMORE AND SURELY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLACE MY NEWBORN CHILD IN THIS EXPLORER TO BE EXPOSED TO FUMES OF THIS AMOUNT. THIS IS THE MOST MONEY I EVER SPENT ON A VEHICLE AND I'M AT A COMPLETE LOSS. I AM VERY FEARFUL OF PUTTING MY FAMILY IN THIS VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY A NEWBORN.
I PURCHASED A 2015 FORD EXPLORER AND I AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME EXHAUST SMELL ISSUE IN THE CABIN THAT LAW ENFORCEMENT IS EXPERIENCING. MY DAUGHTER HAS COMPLAINED ABOUT HEAD ACHES ON EVEN SHORT AROUND TOWN TRIPS. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF THE WINDOWS ARE UP OR DOWN, FUMES STILL ENTER THE CABIN AND CAUSES ILLNESS IF WE ARE IN THE VEHICLE FOR ANY PERIOD OF TIME. DURING THE WINTER TIME OR RAINY PERIODS OBVIOUSLY WE CANNOT HAVE THE WINDOWS DOWN DUE TO RAIN, SNOW OR COLD WEATHER HERE IN THE MIDWEST.. I DO NOT THINK ITS RIGHT FOR FORD TO FIX THE INTERCEPTORS AND NOTE THE CONSUMER MODEL. THE INTERCEPTORS RECALL ARE EVEN PARTIALLY DUE TO A 3 PARTY VENDOR MODIFYING THE VEHICLE. I THINK A TOTAL RECALL NEEDS TO HAPPEN FOR THE EXPLORER. REGULAR CITIZENS ARE ALSO GETTING SICK ESPECIALLY DURING LONGER STOP AND GO TRIPS WHEN THE WINDOWS CANNOT BE DOWN TO VENT THE EXHAUST GASSES. THERE HAS NOT BEEN A SPECIFIC DATE THIS HAPPENS, ISSUE IS ON GOING. HAPPENS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND HAS BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED.
EXHAUST SMELL WHILE DRIVING. EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING INSIDE OF VEHICLE. HAVE TO DRIVE WITH A WINDOW DOWN TO AVOID THE SMELL/FUMES. THIS HAPPENS CONSISTENTLY AND IS WORSE ON LONGER TRIPS.
FORD MOTOR COMPANY (FORD) IS RECALLING CERTAIN WHEEL HUB BEARING ASSEMBLIES, PART NUMBER HB5Z-1104-C, INCORRECTLY LISTED AS BEING FOR INSTALLATION ON THE REAR AXLES OF 2011-2017 FORD EXPLORER 4X2 VEHICLES. THESE BEARINGS ASSEMBLIES WERE MANUFACTURED WITHOUT A SELF RETENTION FEATURE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN THE SEPARATION OF THE WHEEL OR WHEEL END. IS NOOTGOOD
AFTER COMPLETING A LEFT TURN ON A WARM SUNNY DRY CLEAR DAY ON A FLAT ROAD SURFACE I HAD ACCELERATED NORMALLY UP TO ABOUT 30 MILES AN HOUR (SPEED LIMIT 45) AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN COMPLETELY LOST POWER. FOR A SECOND I THOUGHT THE CAR HAD STALLED SO I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND TRIED TO RESTART BUT IT WAS IN FACT STILL RUNNING. IT WOULD NOT REV AT ALL. I PUT THE TRUCK BACK INTO GEAR AND TURNED ON MY FOUR-WAY FLASHERS. PRESSING THE GAS DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGH AND I WAS ABLE TO GO ABOUT 5 MILES AN HOUR FOR ABOUT 500 FEET AT WHICH POINT I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND STARTED SWEARING AT MY 2015 EXPLORER WITH UNDER 23K MILES WHICH COULD HAVE KILLED ME IF IT HAD LOST POWER 30 SECONDS SOONER WHILE I WAS TURNING LEFT. THIS IS VERY CLEARLY A HEALTH AND SAFETY DEFECT AND THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED ASAP. OBVIOUSLY I CANNOT ALLOW MY WIFE AND CHILD TO DRIVE IN THIS VEHICLE. I'VE BEEN DRIVING FOR OVER 25 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN.
THE VEHICLE WAS TESTED AND FOUND TO HAVE 30 PPM OF CO IN THE VEHICLE WHILE IN OPERATION.
CO2 LEAKING INTO THE CABIN OF OUR VEHICLE. WE HAVE INSTALLED A CO2 DETECTOR THAT HAS GONE OFF TWICE SINCE WE HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE. CALLED FORD TWICE, HAD IT SERVICED ONCE AND IT IS STILL AN ISSUE.
AFTER EVEN A MODERATE RAINFALL, THE VEHICLE LEAKS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER FOOTWELL AND FROM THE MAP LIGHT. THE LEAKING PRIMARILY OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED IN OUR DRIVERS. 5 REPAIR ATTEMPTS OVER THE COURSE OF SEVERAL MONTHS, INCLUDING A FULL REPLACEMENT OF THE SUNROOF, HAVE NOT FOUND OR RESOLVED THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE NOW SMELLS OF MOLD.
7/25/2017 DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH, PASSED A VEHICLE ACCELERATING TO APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH. WITHIN SECONDS OF SLOWING BACK TO 55 MPH PASSENGER CABIN FILLED WITH FUMES (SMELLS LIKE BURNING HAIR) OPENED ALL WINDOWS BUT BREATHING VERY DIFFICULT, HAD TO PULL OFF ROAD AND EXIT VEHICLE UNTIL CLEAR. AIR CONDITIONER WAS NOT SET ON RECIRCULATE AT THE TIME. THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING PROBLEM AND DEALER SUPPOSEDLY "FIXED" IN JUNE 2016. HOWEVER, THIS INCIDENT WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAD TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE. PROBLEM SEEMS TO OCCUR MORE OFTEN WHEN AIR CONDITIONER ON OR SET TO RECIRCULATE, BUT DOES OCCUR WHEN A/C NOT IN USE. DEVELOPED A HEADACHE SHORTLY AFTER INCIDENT.

POWER STEERING FAILED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED.
2015 FORD EXPLORER POLICE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING CARBON MONOXIDE INTO CABIN OF VEHICLE. FORD SAID THEIR WAS A BULLETIN BUT NO RECALL FOR THE PROBLEM. THE COST TO GET IT FIXED WAS 691.15. IT IS UNKNOWN IF VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION OR STATIONARY.
EXHAUST SMELL ENTERS CABIN OF VEHICLE AFTER HARD ACCELERATION.
I PURCHASED THE 2015 FORD EXPLORER USED FROM A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AROUND JULY, 2016. MY FAMILY NOTICED AN ODOR (OF EXHAUST FUMES) IN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. IT HAPPENED EVERY TIME I ACCELERATED QUICKLY. MORE SPECIFICALLY, I WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP AND THEN TOOK OFF QUICKLY TO GET ONTO A HIGHWAY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH I PURCHASED IT. THEY TESTED IT AND CONFIRMED MY COMPLAINT. THEY CONTACTED THE ENGINEERS AT FORD TO SEE HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS GOING TO BE A GUINEA PIG. THEY REPLACED A SEAL AND DID SOMETHING THAT REQUIRED THEM TO REMOVE THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT CHARGE ME FOR THE SERVICE. THEY ALSO PROVIDED ME WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE TO DRIVE. WHEN I GOT MY VEHICLE BACK, I COULD STILL SMELL THE ODOR. AGAIN, I NOTICED IT WHEN I ACCELERATED QUICKLY. THIS TIME, I COULD SMELL IT ABOUT 1 MINUTE AFTER THE QUICK ACCELERATION. DURING THE ACCELERATION, MY AIR CONDITIONING DEFAULTED TO AN "OFF" POSITION TEMPORARILY. I WAS CONCERNED, SO I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP. MY CAR HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR OVER A WEEK THIS TIME. I HAVE NOT GOTTEN IT BACK YET. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY ORDERED A NEW EXHAUST SYSTEM. I ASKED SPECIFICALLY IF IT WAS DIFFERENT FROM THE PREVIOUS ONE. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS DIFFERENT. AGAIN, THEY ARE NOT GOING TO CHARGE ME FOR THE REPAIRS. I DON'T THINK THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS EITHER THOUGH. I THINK FORD SHOULD COVER ALL REPAIRS FOR THIS EXHAUST PROBLEM. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, THE EXPLORER THEY PUT ME IN WHILE MINE WAS IN THE SHOP HAD THE SAME EXHAUST ODOR IN THE CABIN. I REPORTED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY PROVIDED ME A FLEX TO DRIVE. HOW CAN FORD EXPECT THEIR SALES TEAM TO SELL THESE VEHICLES KNOWING THAT THERE COULD BE POISONOUS GASSES GOING INTO THEIR CABIN?
HEAVY EXHAUST ODOR NO MATTER IF A/C IS IN RECIRCULATE OR OUTSIDE AIR.OCCURS WHEN CAR IS DRIVING OR STOPPED
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware that the driver’s side inside door panel was detaching around the window and separated from the door frame. The vehicle was taken to a dealer several times, and the contact was informed that the glue on the door panel was loosening. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON THE HIGHWAY, TWICE, WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THANK GOD I WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR BEFORE CRASHING. WE HAD THE PROBLEM FIXED, UNDER WARRANTY, BUT NOW AFTER 26,000 MILES THE PROBLEM IS BACK. I AM VERY CONCERNED BECAUSE MY MY WIFE NOW DRIVES THIS CAR.
SUFFERING FROM AN EXHAUST SMELL THAT ENTERS THE VEHICLE WHENEVER IT IS UNDER HARD ACCELERATION OR UNDER LOAD, SUCH AS DRIVING UP A HILL. MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN MADE TO FIND THE CAUSE OF THE ISSUE BY THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS PURCHASED FROM WITH NO RESOLUTION. ENTERS THE CABIN WORSE WITH THE REAR AIR TURNED ON, EVEN AFTER THE FIXES WERE DONE TO SEAL THE CAR BY THE DEALER. NOTICEABLE WHEN EXITING THE VEHICLE, THE SMELL IS ALL AROUND THE OUTSIDE FOR A FEW SECONDS AFTER STOPPING.
CONSOLE STARTED FLASHING "SERVICE STEERING ASSIST SOON" AND "TRACTION ASSIST FAILURE". WOULD CLEAR UP WHEN CAR RESTARTED. NEVER LOST STEERING DURING THIS 2 WEEK TIME. JULY 9TH, 2017, DRIVING 70 MPH ON 405 FREEWAY NEAR LONG BEACH, CA, FLASHED "STEERING ASSIST FAILURE" AND LOST POWER STEERING. TRACTION ASSIST FAILURE LIGHT AS WELL. GOT THOUGH TRAFFIC, SLOWED DOWN AND EXITED WITHOUT ANY POWER STEERING, STOPPED AND RESTARTED AND ISSUE WENT AWAY. CALLED DEALER AND TOOK CAR IN THE NEXT MORNING. THEY RESET CODES AND SAID "IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN BRING IT BACK IN." WHICH SCARED ME. 9 DAYS LATER LOST STEERING TURNING INTO WORK PARKING LOT THEN LOST STEERING 3 MORE TIMES WITHIN 24 HOURS. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE EPAS RACK AND PINION SYSTEM FOR $1916.79. THE CAR HAD 46,7K MILES AND ONLY HIGHWAY DRIVING. OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY AS THEY DON'T CONSIDER THIS POWERTRAIN. HAD I BEEN IN A TURN OR EXIT RAMP OFF FREEWAY WOULD HAVE BEEN A CRASH FOR CERTAIN.
CAN SMELL EXHAUST IN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE FORD HAS ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR ONCE AND THE TRUCK WILL BE DROPPED OFF FOR THE SECOND TIME
ODOR IN CABIN HAPPENS UNDER VARIOUS SPEEDS AND DRIVING CONDITIONS MY WIFE HAS AN ALLERGIC REACTION TO THIS ODOR. HER THROAT STARTS TO CLOSE UP AND IT RESTRICTS HER AIRWAY. SHE HAS TO ROLL DOWN WINDOWS AT THE FIRST SIGN OF ODOR TO LIMIT THESE AFFECTS. THIS ALL STARTED IN JULY 2017 AND FIRST REPORTED TO THE DEALER ON JULY 6,2017. FORD HAS MADE NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MOST RECENT TRIP FOR REPAIRS RESULTED IN THE DEALERSHIP BEING ADVISED BY FORD'S OFFICE OF GENERAL COUNSEL TO RELEASE VEHICLE TO CUSTOMER WITH NO REPAIRS. WITHOUT BEING REDUNDANT I HAVE ATTACHED A LETTER TO OGC SUBSEQUENT TO THEIR RELEASING THE UNREPAIRED VEHICLE TO US. TO DATE WE HAVE HAD NO RESPONSE AND/OR ANY DIRECT COMMUNICATION WITH FORD'S OGC.
CARBON MONOXIDE LIKE LEAK INTO THE CABIN FORD DID NOT FIX WHEN WE WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP
I JUST READ A USA TODAY ARTICLE CONCERNING THE FORD EXPLORER AND CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. AS I READ IT, I IMMEDIATELY KNEW THIS IS WHAT SICKENED MY FAMILY DURING OUR VACATION LAST SUMMER. THIS HAPPENED OVER OUR EXTENDED TRAVEL FROM FORT RILEY, KS TO LAS VEGAS, NV. MY OLDER SON COMPLAINED OF HEADACHES AND VOMITED SEVERAL TIMES. WE COULD NOT DETERMINE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH HIM AT THE TIME.
DURING THE USE OF THE VENTILATION SYSTEM THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE WILL FILL WITH EXHAUST ODOR WHILE SITTING STILL OR DURING MOVEMENT DOWN ALL ROADS. THIS SMELL GROWS THE MORE THE VEHICLE SPEEDS UP. THE VEHICLE HAS 30K MILES. THIS VEHICLE IS A QUICK RESPONSE VEHICLE FOR AN EMERGENCY SERVICES ORGANIZATION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, IT WOULD NOT START WHEN PROMPTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MIKE REICHENBACH FORD IN FLORENCE, SOUTH CAROLINA WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE WIRES WITHIN THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DUVAL FORD IN JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA WHERE THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
THE INSIDE OF THE CAR SMELLS LIKE EXHAUST ANY TIME I AM DRIVING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED (APPROX. 60MPH OR MORE) UP HILL. THIS OCCURS WITH THE WINDOWS UP AND EVEN WITH THE OUTSIDE AIR TURNED OFF, IN FACT IT SEEMS WORSE WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ON AND RECIRCULATING AIR ON. HAPPENS EVERY TIME I DRIVE IN THESE CONDITIONS.
EXHAUST ODER IN PASSENGER CABIN WHEN ACCELERATING. 6 TIME IN THE SHOP. ODER IS GETTING MORE INTENSE AND HEAVIER AS TIME PASSES. LOCAL FORD DEALER REFUSES TO SERVICE MY CAR AND SAID NO FIX IS AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME. LOCAL DEALER SAID FORD WILL NOT REIMBURSE FOR REPAIR. LAST REPAIR 6/28/2017 THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN IN THE CAR FROM BEFORE 10,000 MILES.
MULTIPLE TIMES STEERING FAULTS WHILE DRIVING. LOCKED STEERING RENDERING CAR NOT ABLE TO STEER, CAR IN MOTION. MOST RECENT INCIDENT ON 6/26 ALSO HAPPENED PRIOR. BODY DAMAGE TO CAR DUE TO LACK OF STEERING. NO OTHER CARS INVOLVED. NO PHYSICAL INJURY. "CRASH" ON NEXT QUESTION IS OVERSTATING ALTHOUGH OBJECT WAS HIT CAUSING DAMAGE
WITH THE A/C ON AND YOU ACCELERATE AND THE LET OFF A SMELL OF EXHAUST FUMES OVER TAKE THE PASSENGER AREA OF THE VEHICLE. WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN THE SMELL IS NOT AS BAD BUT STILL VERY NOTICEABLE.
SOMETIMES IT SMELLS LIKE EXHAUST FUMES OR HAIR BURNING FUMES ARE ENTERING THE CAB. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR OVER A YEAR.

WHEN VEHICLE ACCELERATES FUMES ENTER THE CABIN FORCING ME TO OPEN THE WINDOW. IT SMELLS LIKE EXHAUST AND GIVES ME A MIGRAINE. THIS HAPPENS AT EVERY ACCELERATION.
I PUT A CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR IN MY CAR IN MAY. IT HAS WENT OFF TWICE SINCE JUNE. HAVE TAKEN TO THE SHOP TWICE WITH NOTHING TO FIX IT.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,400.
I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AND PASSED OUT AT THE WHEEL. I RAN OFF THE ROAD AND HIT A GUARDRAIL. I HAD NAUSEA, HEADACHES, AND EXTREME FATIGUE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT AS WELL AS THIS DAY. AT THE TIME, I HAD NOT HEARD OF THE ISSUES SOME EXPLORERS HAD WITH EXHAUST. AFTER HAVING TO HAVE MANY TESTS RUN BY A CARDIOLOGIST AND NEUROLOGIST, NOTHING WAS FOUND. I HEARD OF THE EXHAUST ISSUE ON THE NEWS ONE NIGHT AND A LIGHT WENT OFF. POISONOUS EXHAUST LEAKING INTO CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. TOOK IT TO BERGE FORD. THEY SUPPOSEDLY FIXED IT BUT IT DID NOT GET RID OF THE LEAK SO WE TOOK IT BACK. IT IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP AT BERGE AGAIN WHILE THE TECHNICIANS TALK WITH FORD SPECIALISTS TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX IT. I HAD TO PAY $100 SO FAR FOR A DEDUCTABLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THIS SHOULD BE A RECAL!!!! MY SON AND I GET FREQUENT HEADACHES WHEN DRIVING BECAUSE OF THE NOXIOUS FUMES!!!! I AM STUCK IN A TINY RENTAL CAR UNTIL THIS IS FIXED. FORD NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. WE TOOK THE SHOP FORMAN AND SERVICE TECHNICIAN WITH US TO SMELL THE EXHAUST FUMES AND THEY AGREED THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT EXHUAST SMELL IN THE VEHICLE AND IT IS UNEXCEPTABLE!!!!!

HYDROCARBON FUMES RELEASED INTO VEHICLE PASSENGER CABIN/COMPARTMENT DURING HEAVY ACCELERATION OF ENGINE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE OWNING THIS VEHICLE FROM NOVEMBER 2015.
I AM EXPERIENCING SOME TYPE OF UNUSUAL ODOR IN THE CABIN OF MY 2015 FORD EXPLORER VEHICLE USUALLY WHEN THE ENGINE IS PUT UNDER HARD ACCELERATION LIKE CLIMBING A STEEP HILL OR ACCELERATING TO GET ONTO A HIGHWAY. THIS CABIN ODOR ISSUE HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW. IT MOST RECENTLY HAPPENED YESTERDAY. I CURRENTLY HAVE 46,000 ON THE VEHICLE. THANK YOU.
HEADLIGHTS ARE SUPPOSE TO BE SEALED UNITS BUT WHEN I'M DRIVING IN THE RAIN THE WATER GETS IN. FORD DENIED WARRANTY REPLACEMENT OF THEM CALLING IT CONDENSATION AND THAT IS NORMAL. THE WATER STAYS IN FOR A DAY OR TWO BUT WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT IT OBSCURES MY VISION FROM THE LIGHT BEING DEFUSED. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BY FORD AND THEY DON'T SEEM TO WANT TO OWN UP TO IT. I SENT PICTURES TO THEM BUT HAVE SINCE DELETED THEM I WILL TAKE MORE THE NEXT TIME IT RAINS WHEN I'M TRAVELING.
ENGINE WAS SHAKING VIBRANTLY AT IDLE. IT WAS NOT MOVING UNLESS YOU STEPPED MORE INTO THE ACCELERATION AND THAT MADE IT DANGEROUS TO JUDGE. IT DOES NOT HAVE THE ACCELERATION NEEDED TO DRIVE UPHILL EVEN YOU STEP DOWN ON IT. CAR DOESN'T AUTO START WITH KEY FOB.
