WHILE DRIVING SLOWLY AN ERROR DISPLAYED ON MY DASH DISPLAY, IT WAS TERRAIN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FAULT. THE VEHICLE WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND SEEMED TO LOSE POWER STEERING. THE TERRAIN MANAGEMENT KNOB LIGHT WENT OUT. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP HERE IN MOUNTAIN HOME ARKANSAS AND WAS TOLD TO DRIVE IT UNTIL IT DID IT AGAIN AND BRING IT IN WITHOUT SHUTTING IT OFF. THE SERVICE PERSON SAID THAT SEVERAL PEOPLE IN THE AREA WERE DOING THIS FOR THE SAME ISSUE. I SAW ON THE INTERNET THAT IT LOOKED LIKE IT IS OCCURRING A LOT, SOMETIMES WHEN VEHICLES ARE TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEEDS. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY GAVE ME THE SAME STORY. DRIVE IT OR PAY THEM TO TROUBLESHOOT IT AT $90 AN HOUR. IT SOUNDED TO ME LIKE FORD NEEDS TO FIX THE PROBLEM INSTEAD OF SENDING PEOPLE ON TO POSSIBLY BE HURT OR KILLED IF THE ERROR HAPPENS AT A HIGH SPEED OR ON A DANGEROUS CURVE.
THE EXPLORER STILL HAS A STRONG EXHAUST SMELL IN THE CABIN WHEN ACCELERATING HARD. THE EXPLORER HAS HAD ALL OF THE FORD RECALLS, INCLUDING A NEW EXHAUST SYSTEM AND SEALING OF THE REAR SEAMS AND REPLACEMENT OF VARIOUS WATER DRAIN PLUGS.
VEHICLE ONLY HAS 41000 MILES AND THE RACK AND PINION IS MAKING A CRACKING NOISE WHEN TURNING TO THE RIGHT. VEHICLE HAS NOT FAIL AS GETTING THE STEERING LOCK BUT NEEDS TO BE REPLACE TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT.
WHILE DRIVING FROM NEW HAMPSHIRE TO NEW YORK CITY AND FURTHER ONTO NEW JERSEY, I SUDDENLY NOTICED THAT THE LINES STARTED MOVING WEIRDLY AND THAT THINGS JUST WEREN'T NORMAL. I WAS DISORIENTED AND WAS HAVING TROUBLE CONCENTRATING ON DRIVING AND STAYING IN MY LANE. SO I ROLLED DOWN THE WINDOWS TO LET THE FRESH AIR IN AND THE POSSIBLE CARBON MONOXIDE OUT. I FOUGHT THROUGH THE NEXT 15 OR 20 MINUTES OF DISORIENTATION AND PERIODS OF HALLUCINATIONS TO GET TO NYC SAFE, BUT STILL SLIGHTLY OUT OF IT. FOUR DAYS LATER, I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, THE RAIN WAS POURING DOWN MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE ALREADY AND THE THAT'S WHEN THE HALLUCINATIONS STARTED AGAIN. THE LINES SEEMED TO BE RUNNING PAST ME AND I DIDN'T FEEL LIKE I WAS MOVING, SORT OF LIKE ON A TREADMILL OR SOMETHING. I WAS CONFUSED, DIZZY, MY VISION WAS BLURRED, I WAS HAVING TROUBLE BREATHING AND IT FELT LIKE MY THROAT WAS BURNING. I DIDN'T NOTICE ANY SMELLS THOUGH, MY FIRST CLUE TO THE POISONING WAS THE HALLUCINATIONS. NOW I IMMEDIATELY ROLLED THE WINDOWS DOWN IN THE POURING RAIN TO TRY AND GET SOME FRESH AIR IN THE VEHICLE AND PUSHED MY FACE TOWARDS THE WINDOW. I WAS IN A PANIC THAT THE ISSUE WOULD GET WORSE AND THAT I WOULD POSSIBLY PASS OUT OR SWERVE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. BUT THE TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR OUTSIDE MADE IT UNSAFE TO PULL ONTO THE SMALL SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND THERE WERE NO BUILDINGS TO STOP IN, SO I JUST KEPT THE WINDOWS DOWN WITH THE RAIN COMING IN AND KEPT DRIVING, STILL SUFFERING FROM THE SYMPTOMS. EVEN AFTER BEING BACK IN MY APARTMENT AND OPENING ALL THE WINDOWS TO GET SOME FRESH AIR IN, I WAS STILL HAVING TROUBLE BREATHING, MY CHEST FELT HEAVY, I WAS HAVING TROUBLE COMPLETING BASIC TASKS AND WAS DIZZY. I DECIDED TO GO TO THE ER WHERE I WAS TREATED FOR CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING AND DISCHARGED.
MY FATHER HAS PASSED OUT TWICE BOTH WHILE DRIVING 2 DIFFERENT YEARS OF A FORD EXPLORER AND DOCTOR'S WERE UNABLE TO FIND A MEDICAL CAUSE. THE FIRST ACCIDENT IN AUGUST HE SPENT 3 DAYS IN ICU UNDERGOING MULTIPLE TESTS, THE SECOND ACCIDENT ON OCTOBER 8TH LEFT HIM WITH 9 BROKEN RIBS(SOME IN MULTIPLE PLACES), A BROKEN SCAPULA AND HIS #3 LUMBAR IS FRACTURED ALONG WITH A WEEK IN ICU. HE HAS BEEN THROUGH EVERY TEST THAT THE DOCTOR'S CAN THINK OF AND ARE UNABLE TO GIVE AN EXPLANATION AS TO WHY HE PASSED OUT WHILE HE WAS DRIVING. HE HAS NOW BEEN ADMITTED TO A SKILLED CARE FACILITY DUE TO SO MANY BROKEN BONES. HE WAS ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY IN MOTION WHEN HE WENT UNCONSCIOUS BOTH TIMES TOTALING BOTH VEHICLES. HE REMEMBERS GETTING IN THE CAR AND STARTING TO DRIVE AND THEN NOTHING. HE IS A HEALTHY 71 YEAR OLD MALE WHO HAS NO MEDICAL ISSUES THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS. THE FIRST ACCIDENT WAS ON AUGUST 7TH IN A 2016 EXPLORER AND THE SECOND ACCIDENT WAS ON 10-8-17 IN A 2015 EXPLORER
AIRBAG LIGHT HAS COME ON FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT APPROXI MATELY 62,000 MILES. THE PREVIOUS TIME THE AIRBAG CAME ON WAS FOR DEFECTIVE SEATBELTS WITH THE AIRBAGS IN PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. ALSO, A SMELL OF SULFUR IS COMING FROM THE AIR VENTS WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING IS ON. THE SMELL IS STRONGEST WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY. WHEN THE CAR IS TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITHOUT A/C ON, THERE IS NO ODOR.
FORD EXPLORER POLICE WAS STATIONARY ON US HIGHWAY 59 NORTH. THE POLICE OFFICER IN THE DRIVER SEAT LOST CONSCIOUSNESS FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR AND 30 MINUTES. ANOTHER OFFICER CHECKED ON THE UNCONSCIOUS OFFICER AND FOUND HIM TO BE NOT ALERT AND UN RESPONSIVE, THEREFORE HE SUMMONED EMS AND REMOVED THE UNCONSCIOUS OFFICER FROM THE EXPLORER. EMS WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE OFFICER BUT HE WAS DISORIENTED, UNAWARE OF WHERE HE WAS AND WHO HE WAS. OFFICER WAS PLACED ON OXYGEN AND TRANSPORTED TO LOCAL EMERGENCY ROOM WHERE HIS ARTERIAL BLOOD WAS TAKEN. ARTERIAL BLOOD WAS FOUND TO HAVE APPROXIMATELY 20% CONCENTRATION OF CARBON MONOXIDE. ARTERIAL BLOOD WAS TAKEN APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR AFTER BEING REMOVED FROM THE EXPLORER AND 40 MINUTES OF BEING ADMINISTERED OXYGEN BY EMS.
EXHAUST SMELL COMES OUT OF AC VENT WHEN THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN UNDER HIGH RPM CONDITIONS (3500 PLUS), DRIVING UPHILL, AND HARD ACCELERATION. VEHICLE IS A 2015 FORD EXPLORER BASE MODEL. FORD DEALER IN ALEXANDRIA, VA (OURISMAN FORD) CHECKED VEHICLE WHEN SUV WAS UNDER 5000 MILES. TOLD US THAT IT IS NORMAL. VEHICLE HAS 36K MILES NOW AND STILL HAS THAT EXHAUST SMELL UNDER SAID DRIVING CONDITIONS. I WAS TOLD BY DEALER SERVICE ADVISER AT LAST OIL CHANGE THAT ONLY POLICE CARS HAVE THIS ISSUE. A QUICK SEARCH ON THE INTERNET AS WELL AS NHTSA STATES A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS FROM NON-POLICE CARS. EXHAUST SOMETIMES SMELLS LIKE SULFUR (ROTTEN EGG) SMELL.

THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER SUDDENLY. THE POWER TRAIN FAULT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JORDON FORD, LTD (13010 I-35, SAN ANTONIO, TX 78233 (210) 653-3673), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,400.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EMITTED AN EXHAUST ODOR WHEN ACCELERATING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. BARTOW FORD (2800 U.S. 98 N, BARTOW, FL) STATED THAT IT WAS A KNOWN FAILURE WITH THAT MODEL OF VEHICLE, BUT THERE WAS NO REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,600.
AIRBAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME. FORD SHOULD BE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEMS DUE TO COMPLAINTS LISTED ON SEVERAL WEBSITES AND SERVICE VISITS. PROBLEMS WITH THE INFLATABLE SEAT BELT CONNECTERS AND AIRBAG CONNECTERS. THIS CAUSES THE SAFETY RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000.
CATALYTIC CONVERTER ODOR ENTERS CABIN WHEN ACCELERATING ON HIGHWAY
I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD COMPANY (THIS WAS ONLY AFTER I HAD MADE A CALL TO FORD) CONCERNING CARBON MONOXIDE. I HAVE EXPERIENCED PHYSICAL AFFECTS FROM POSSIBLE CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. I GOT THE LETTER TO BRING VEHICLE IN TO GET FIXED WITH NO CHARGE TO ME. IT IS NOW FEB. AND THE ISSUE HAS YET TO BE FIXED. THEREFORE I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH MY DAUGHTER (WHO HAS A CHRONIC ILLNESS) WITHOUT USING HEAT OR A/C, DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. FORD STILL REFUSING TO DO A RECALL, WHILE WE AS CUSTOMERS ARE SUFFERING EVERYDAY BECAUSE OF THE 'ALMIGHTY DOLLAR', IT IS NOT RIGHT!!!! PLEASE FORCE FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO MAKE THIS RIGHT AND TO START THINKING OF THEIR CUSTOMERS SAFETY AND WELL BEING.
I STARTED WITH HEADACHES ,AND ALWAYS NASSAU, ALWAYS. TIRED ,WHEN I PUSH ON THE ACCELERATOR I SMELLED FUMES COMING OUT OF MY A/C ..I WAS DRIVING WIDE AWAKE ON 95 NORTH ,PROCESSING TO GO HOME .I WAS IN ORANGEBURG S.C.I HAD BEEN TALKING THROUGH MY RADIO CONNECTED BLUETOOTH, I HAD A LITTLE OVER A HOUR TO GO .A DEER .MY AIRBAGS ON THE DRIVER SIDE DEPLOYED BUT NOT THE PASSENGERS .AND THEY DID NOT STAY UP TO LONG ,A GODLY SMELL WAS COMING FROM MY CAR,.EVERYTHING LOOKED HAZY ,I GOT OUT OF MY CAR ,CALLED 911 ,I DID NOT GO TO HOSPITOL TIL NEXT DAY ,ALL I DID WAS SLEEP WAITING IN THE WAITING ROOM TO BE SEEN.I HAD X RAYS ALL KINDS OF TESTS DONE .I WAS HURTING PRETTY BAD .I STILL GET HEADACHES TIL THIS DAY .MY LUNGS HURT TOO .I'M SURE I HAVE BEEN POSITIONED BY CARBON MONOXIDE..EVERYTIME I DRIVE MY CAR ,I WOULD GET A HEADACHE NASSAU AND VERY VERY SLEEPY TIRED .MY MEMORY WAS NOT GOOD THEN EIETHER ,I STILL FORGET THINGS TIL THIS DAY ..
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AN ERROR MESSAGE APPEARED ON MY DASH, STATING THE "CHECK FUEL FILL INLET " AND ENGINE LIGHT ON. HAD IT REPAIRED 9/28/17, FUEL TANK FILLER PIPE AND CANISTER PURGE SOLENOID. ON 10/25/17 BACK IN THE REPAIR SHOP FOR SAME ERROR MESSAGE. THEY REPLACED THE SOLENOID ASSY AND VALVE ASSY. NOW, ONCE AGAIN, I HAVE THE SAME ERROR (11/2/17). GOES BACK IN THE GARAGE TO REPAIR ON 11/8/17. WE'LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
FORD EXPLORER 2015 WITH 38,000 MILES. CAR VIOLENTLY JERKED ON HIGHWAY AND COMPLETELY SHUT OFF ENGINE WITH NO THROTTLE RESPONSE. WE WERE ALMOST HIT MULTIPLE TIMES BY OTHER DRIVERS BECAUSE WE HAD NO CONTROL. WRENCH SYMBOL WAS ON THE DASH AND BELIEVE IT IS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND CANNOT BELIEVE THEY ARE STILL SELLING THIS VEHICLE OR VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED A STRONG ODOR OF EXHAUST FUMES EVERY TIME THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE ODOR WAS ONLY PREVALENT WHEN THE ACCELERATION PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE ISSUE LASTED APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AUTONATION FORD IN FT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA FIVE TIMES FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND REPAIRS. THE DEALER ALSO REPLACED AIR FILTERS, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,710.
STEERING RACK ASSEMBLY NEEDED REPLACING FOR THE SECOND TIME WITHIN 14 MONTHS OF EACH OTHER (07/07/2016 AND 09/19/2017). FIRST TIME WAS AT 37,100 MILES, SECOND TIME WAS AT 59,853 MILES. BOTH TIMES THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AT 70+MPH AND WITHOUT WARNING, INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON AND I LOST POWER STEERING.
AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON AND WON'T GO OFF
WHEN DRIVING, THERE'S AN ODOR THAT SOMETIMES GET REALLY STRONG. YOU CAN REALLY SMELL IT WHEN THE AC IS ON RECIRCULATE. IT SO BAD AT TIMES, I HAVE TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS. MY WIFE HAS BEEN GETTING HEAD ACHES FROM RIDING IN THE CAR AS WELL. WE HAVE 3 CHILDREN, THIS IS GETTING TO BE A SERIOUS CONCERN TO US L, AS IT COULD BE HARMING OUR CHILDREN. IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME AT ANY SPEED.
VEHICLE WILL INTERMITTENTLY NOT REGISTER BEING IN PARK EVEN WHEN THE SHIFT CONTROL IN THE PARK POSITION. REQUIRES MULTIPLE SHIFTS OUT OF PARK AND BACK TO REGISTER CORRECT SETTING. VEHICLE POWER STAYS ON UNTIL THE ISSUE IS RESOLVED WHICH CAN DRAIN THE BATTERY. IF THE SENSOR COMPLETELY FAILS VEHICLE CAN BE LEFT INOPERABLE. FORD IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HAS INCREMENTED THE SHIFT ASSEMBLY PART BUT HAS NOT NOTIFIED CUSTOMERS NOR TAKEN ANY ACTION FOR RECALL OR TSB.

DRIVING ON SMALL HIGHWAY 55-60 MPH. DASH WARNINGS DING AND FLASH POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE, TERRAIN MANGEMENT SYSTEM FAULT, SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC. VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOSES POWER STEERING AND FOUND IT VERY DIFFICULT TO MAKE TURN INTO PARKING LOT. RESTARTED CAR HOPING IT WAS A GLITCH...I WAS LOW ON WIPER FLUID AND PRESSED OK. (SEEMED TO HAPPEN IMMEDIATELY AFTER PRESSING BUTTON ON STEERING WHEEL). ALL WAS NORMAL AND DROVE HOME. THIS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN AFTER SEVERAL DAYS AND WOULD CORRECT ITSELF UPON RESTARTING CAR. I WAS LUCKY TO BE DRIVING IN LIGHT TRAFFIC. I HAVE MADE ARRANGEMENTS TO HAVE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED. AFTER READING MANY COMPLAINTS, I AM SUSPECTING THE STEERING RACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TERMINAL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE THE DRIVER PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY, THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO PARK. THE DRIVER WAS IN THE PROCESS OF EXITING THE VEHICLE WHEN IT SUDDENLY REVERSED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY, DRAGGING THE DRIVER BY THE DOOR. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY GET BACK INTO THE VEHICLE TO SHIFT THE GEAR BACK INTO PARK. THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HOWEVER, WAS UNABLE TO BE CLOSED AFTER THE FAILURE. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE RIGHT KNEE AND ABRASIONS. MEDICAL TREATMENT WAS REQUIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V464000 (PARKING BRAKE). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE TO DETERMINE IF THEY COULD INVESTIGATE AND PROVIDE A SOLUTION. THE CONTACT AND THE DRIVER WERE UNCERTAIN IF THE MANUFACTURER WOULD BE ABLE TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE IN 03/2015. I NOTIFIED THE DEALERSHIP OF A FUNNY ODOR AND WAS TOLD IT WAS BECAUSE THE CAR WAS NEW, BUT THAT IT WOULD GO AWAY. AS OF TODAY, THE ODOR REMAINS. IN THE FALL OF 2015, WE DROVE TO MY INLAWS HOUSE WHO LIVES APPROXIMATE 25-30 MILES FROM OUR HOME. MY GRANDDAUGHTER WHO WAS RIDING ON THE THIRD ROW SEAT WAS HARD TO WAKE UP WHEN WE GOT HOME. SHE WAS VERY DROWSY. AFTER GETTING HER IN THE HOUSE AND PREPARING HER FOR BED, I NOTICED SHE WASN'T BREATHING AND HER EYES BEGAN TO FLUTTER. SHE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL BY AMBULANCE. WE LEARNED SHE HAD A SEIZURE. HER BROTHER ON THAT SAME NIGHT BEGAN THROWING UP, BUT WE THOUGHT IT WAS DUE TO NERVES. TEST WERE CONDUCTED, BUT DIDN'T REALLY TELL US NOTHING. ON 12/24/17, WE TOOK A ROAD TRIP THAT LASTED MORE THAN 4 HOURS DUE TO TRAFFIC. MY FAMILY WAS VERY SLEEPY AND SOME COMPLAINED OF HEADACHES. TWO DAYS LATER WE WERE BACK IN THE CAR SHOPPING AND SIGHTSSIGHTSEEING, WHEN MY GRANDDAUGHTER WHO WAS ON THE BACK SEAT BECAME UNRESPONSIVE. WE TOOK HER TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM AND WAS INFORMED SHE HAD ANOTHER SEIZURE. THEY RAN TEST AND WHEN WE RETURNED HOME, HER PRIMARY CARE DOCTOR HAD MORE TEST RAN. ON 09/02/2017, WE TOOK A VACATION (3 HR DRIVE) AND THE KIDS SAT ON THE 2ND ROW SEAT. MY GRANDSON VOMITTED AND MY GRANDDAUGHTER CRIED WHILE COMPLAINING OF A BAD HEADACHE. WE EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING AFTER RETURNING HOME. CALLED HER AFTERCARE ADVISE AND WAS ADVISED TO GIVE HER TYLENOL. AFTER SEEING NBC4 CARBON MONOXIDE REPORT, I CALLED THEM. MY TRUCK WAS TESTED AND CONFIRMED THE CARBON MONOXIDE IS COMING INTO THE CABIN OF THE CAR. IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT I NOT DRIVE THE CAR. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS ADVISE THEY ARE NOT ADDRESSING THE ISSUE AND THAT I SHOULD CALL FORD MOTOR COMPANY. I'VE PLACED TWO CALLS WITH NO RESPONSE FROM THEM. I'M CONCERNED AND FEARFUL.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2015 EXPLORER ABOUT 55 MPH, COMING UP TO A DRIVEWAY I NEEDED TO TURN INTO A FEW HUNDRED FEET AWAY. SUDDENLY THE CAR LURCHED AND WARNING SIGNALS POPPED UP ON MY DASH. IT ALERTED ME MY COLLISION WARNING SENSORS FAILED AND SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC. I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE AND SLOW DOWN FOR MY TRIM AND REALIZED I HAD LOST POWER BRAKES AS WELL AS POWER STEERING IN MY ATTEMPT TO TURN INTO THE DRIVEWAY. I NARROWLY MISSED HITTING A TREE WHILE MAKING THE TURN INTO THE DRIVEWAY. I COASTED TO A STOP AND IMMEDIATELY RAN A VEHICLE DIAGNOSIS. IT SUGGEST I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON TO SEE IF THE CODES CLEARED. WHEN I TURNED THE VEHICLE ON ALL WARNING WERE STILL DISPLAYED BUT BRAKES AND STEERING RETURNED. MY LOCAL FORD WAS FAIRLY CLOSE SO MY FATHER IN LAW ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE IT THERE AND SUDDENLY ALL CODES CLEARED OUT OF THE VEHICLE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. NOTICED SUDDEN LOSS OF ABILITY TO STEER. NUMEROUS WARNING AND MESSAGES APPEARED ON DASH ALONG WITH AUDIBLE ALARMS. THANKFULLY WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD AND STOP. SEEMED TO BE COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING.WAS ABLE TO GET VEHICLE HOME BUT VEHICLE WAS VERY HARD TO STEER. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. CODE REVEALED FAILED STEERING RACK. $1800 TO REPLACE STEERING RACK. VEHICLE HAD 51449 MILES. CONTACTED FORD CONSUMER RELATIONS-ASKED HER TO TRIGGER A RECALL. I TOLD HER, IN MY OPINION, THIS IS A DANGEROUS FLAW THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED A DISASTEROUS COLLISION. SHE STARTED A FILE AND WOULD BE IN TOUCH WITH MY LOCAL DEALER, IN HOPES THAT THERE MAY BE A POSSIBLE "FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE" SITUATION. SERVICE ADVISER AT LOCAL DEALERSHIP SAID THERE IS NO RECALL BECAUSE THE NUMBERS AREN'T THERE ON THIS MODEL YEAR TO CONSIDER IT DANGEROUS ENOUGH TO RECALL THE VEHICLE FOR THIS PROBLEM. I BELIEVE, IN THIS SITUATION, FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS PUTTING PROFITS AHEAD OF SAFETY. I HAD NO CHOICE BUT FIX THE VEHICLE AND AM QUITE CONFIDENT THAT THE STEERING RACK INSTALLED IS OF THE SAME CRAPPY QUALITY AS THE ONE THAT FAILED. AS OF 4 WEEKS LATER, I HAVE YET TO HEAR BACK FROM MY DEALER OR FORD MOTOR COMPANY ABOUT ANY "FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE". WHAT A JOKE. VERY DISSATISFIED WITH THE RESOLUTION OF THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THESE STEERING RACKS ARE FAILING ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.

FORD DEALERSHIP ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR THE SAME ISSUE 7 TIMES BUT THE LIGHT IS BACK ON 8TH TIME. TWO MONTHS LATER, SAME THING - REPLACED GRILLE AND VALVE ASY, REPROGRAMMED HVAC MODULE, REPLACED AIR EXTRACTOR 4. ONE MONTH LATER: INSTALLED MUFFLER ASY; RVC CODE FOR TSB 1; REPLACED WHEEL LIP MOLDING,VALVE ASY, DUAL RATE AIR EXTRACTOR STILL HAVE THE SMELL, BUT AM ALWAYS TOLD THEY DON'T SMELL IT. AT WHICH POINT THE CODES WENT AWAY. 4. DRIVER-SIDE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE JUST BROKE OFF WHEN I WENT TO OPEN THE DOOR - $149 5. WHEN VEHICLE IS PUT IN PARK I GET AN ERROR MESSAGE VEHICLE NOT IN PARK. I NEED A SHIFT MODULE, $395 PLUS TAX AND FEES 6. MULTIPLE OTHER SMALL PROBLEMS. VENTS NOT STAYING OPEN, PLASTIC COVERS COMING OFF EVERYWHERE, SPEAKER REPLACED TWICE MY EXPLORER HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP MORE TIMES THAN I CAN COUNT AND FORD DOES NOT GIVE LOANER CARS. I'VE BEEN WITHOUT A CAR FOR DAYS AT A TIME.
ON 08-12-17 I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AN TURN MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND I COULD NOT TURN IT.. I SHUT DOWN THE CAR AND RESTARTD IT .IT HAD RESET IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. I WILL TAKE THE CAR TO FORD ON 8-14-17 TO SEE IF THEY WILL HELP AND FIX IT.
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE EXHAUST ON MY 2015 FORD EXPLORER. EVER SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR THERE'S A STRONG EXHAUST SMELL IN THE CAB OF THE CAR WHEN YOU ACCELERATE ENOUGH TO MAKE THE CAR DOWNSHIFT TO PICK UP SPEED. WE TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP SHORTLY AFTER BUYING THE CAR AND IT SEEMED TO BE OK. WHEN TAKING THE CAR ON VACATION IN AUG 2017 TO THE MOUNTAINS WE ONCE AGAIN BEGAN SMELLING THE EXHAUST FUMES AGAIN. AS THE MAIN DRIVER, I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING TERRIBLE HEADACHES WHEN DRIVING THE CAR - FINE BEFORE I GET IN, HEADACHE WITHIN MINUTES, AND THEN FINE AFTER BEING OUT OF THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES OR MORE. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP WHO KEPT IT FOR A WEEK STATING THEY INSTALLED A COMPLETELY NEW EXHAUST SYSTEM FROM THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER TO THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE (AS DESCRIBED IN THE TSB). ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP IN AUG 2017 I EXPERIENCED A PARTIAL BLACKOUT ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP. IT WAS A VERY HOT DAY, I WAS DRIVING IN HEAVY CITY TRAFFIC GOING FROM LIGHT TO LIGHT, I HAD THE AIR BLASTING IN MY FACE, I OPENED THE SUN ROOF AND IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO FEEL AS I WAS BEING DRUGGED. EXTREMELY DIZZY, SICK TO MY STOMACH, AND BEGAN LOSING VISION IN MY RIGHT EYE. THANK GOODNESS THE DEALERSHIP WAS WITHIN 7 MILES - BUT I BARELY MADE IT WITHOUT PASSING OUT. I ENDED UP IN THE EMERGENCY THE FOLLOWING DAY FOR EXTREME HEADACHES AND GROGGINESS. NOW WE ARE AGAIN EXPERIENCING VERY STRONG EXHAUST FUMES WHEN THE CAR DOWNSHIFTS. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE REPORTED BY THE SHERIFF DEPUTIES AS MY INCIDENT IS VERY SIMILAR TO WHEN THE DEPUTY BLACKED OUT AT THE WHEEL AND CRASHED THIS SUMMER. IT DOESN'T SEEM FORD KNOWS HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND THEY ARE NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THIS IS A 'CONSUMER' PROBLEM. NOT JUST A PROBLEM WITH DEPUTY VEHICLES.
10AUG2017 - WHEN GETTING IN MY CAR AFTER WORK IT WAS EXTREMELY HOT. MY CAR HAD BEEN PARKED IN THE PARKING LOT ALL DAY WITHOUT ANY SHADE - SO THE TEMPERATURE INSIDE THE CAR WAS SOARING. I TURNED THE AIR CONDITIONING ON TO FULL BLAST TO KEEP FROM SWEATING AND LEFT THE PARKING LOT. WHILE DRIVING THE 7 MILES FROM MY OFFICE TO THE PALM BAY FORD DEALERSHIP I OPENED THE SUNROOF IN HOPES THAT THE CAR WOULD COOL DOWN QUICKER. IMMEDIATELY I BEGAN FEELING LIGHT HEADED. MY HEAD BEGAN SPINNING AND I STARTED FEELING SICK TO MY STOMACH. IN ONLY A FEW SHORT MINUTES I STARTED LOSING VISION IN MY RIGHT EYE. I NEVER SMELLED ANYTHING THROUGH THE VENTILATION SYSTEM SO I OPENED THE WINDOW TO TRY AND GET MORE AIR THINKING IT WOULD HELP CALM ME. IT MADE IT EVEN WORSE. I WAS TERRIFIED - I COULDN'T SEE TO PULL OVER BUT WASN'T SURE IF I SHOULD KEEP DRIVING. I COULD ONLY MAKE OUT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME - IT WAS RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WITH BUMPER TO BUMPER CARS. I THOUGHT IF I PULLED OVER IT WOULD TAKE LONGER FOR SOMEONE TO GET TO ME IN A PARKING LOT THAN IF I CONTINUED DRIVING - I WAS ABOUT 3 MILES FROM THE DEALERSHIP. BY THE TIME I PULLED IN TO THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS ALL I COULD NOT TO THROW UP. AFTER BEING AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 30 MINUTES I STARTED FEELING BETTER. WE SPOKE TO THE SERVICE REP, ROSE, AND SHE DOCUMENTED THE INCIDENT IN THE SERVICE RECORD. WE TALKED ABOUT THE NEWS REPORTS REGARDING THE ISSUES PLAGUING THE EXPLORERS. SHE CHECKED THE ONLINE SERVICE REPORTS FOR MY CAR AND SHE SAID IT SHOWED GREEN (NO RECALLS OR TSBS). I WAS SHOCKED AND COULDN'T BELIEVE MY CAR HAD NOT BEEN NOTED AS NEEDING THE EXHAUST REPLACED AFTER ALL THE REPORTED ISSUES WITH THE 2015 EXPLORER. SHE SAID IT WOULD BE A WEEK BEFORE THE CAR WAS FIXED SO WE LEFT IN MY HUSBAND'S TRUCK. THIS WOULD BE THE SECOND TIME I'VE HAD THE CAR INTO THE SHOP FOR EXHAUST LEAKS/ISSUES

DRIVING 45MPH DOWN ON A MAJOR ROAD MY STEERING WENT OUT. THE DASH READ AN ERROR "STEERING FAULT" AND I COULD BARELY CONTROL THE CAR. I WAS LUCKILY ABLE TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON. STEERING WAS RESTORED. IT APPEARS THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE FOR MODEL YEARS PRIOR TO MINE (HTTP://WWW.THECARCONNECTION.COM/NEWS/1092388_FORD-RECALLS-914000-ESCAPE-EXPLORER-SUVS-FOR-POWER-STEERING-ISSUE). I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WERE NO ACTIVE RECALLS AND I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY SO I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO GET IT LOOKED AT. I THEN CALLED FORD CORPORATE AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. I TOLD THEM ABOUT THE PREVIOUS RECALL AND THAT IT WAS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE BUT THEY DID NOT CARE. THEY ACTUALLY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE!
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MILES AN HOUR ON A BUSY HIGHWAY THE STEERING WHEEL ON MY 2015 FORD EXPLORER EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE FAILURE. THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING ILLUMINATED AND MY VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO SAFELY MOVE FROM ONE LANE TO THE NEXT. I WAS APPROACHING A CURVE IN THE ROAD AND I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND TURNED ON MY HAZARDS TO AVOID WRECKING INTO THE HIGHWAY BARRIER. I WAS NEARLY STRUCK BY A LARGE SEMI-TRACTOR TRAILER AND A FEW OTHER VEHICLES AS I ATTEMPTED TO GET TO SAFETY. I THOUGHT FOR SURE I WAS GOING TO BE STRUCK BY PASSING VEHICLES. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO GET TO SAFETY, THE MESSAGES READ "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND THEN I SAW ANOTHER MESSAGE THAT READ A TERRAIN MANAGEMENT FUNCTION FAULT AS WELL. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED MY WIFE TO TELL HER I WAS STUCK ON THE SIDE OF RT 280 IN WEST ORANGE, NJ. JUST IN CASE SOMETHING HAPPENED TO ME. I THE CALLED AAA TO REQUEST A TOW. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND THE TERRAIN MANAGEMENT FAULT WAS STILL ILLUMINATED. I ATTEMPTED TO MOVE MY VEHICLE TO A SAFER PLACE AND KEPT HEARING A WHINING NOISE AND THE STEERING WOULD GO IN AND OUT OF FAULTS. ONCE I WAS IN A SAFE PLACE I ADVISED AAA OF MY LOCATION AND AWAITED THEIR SERVICE. I WAS SURPRISED TO HEAR THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNKNOWN ISSUE TO FORD BY THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER. WE HAD THE EXPLORER TOWED TO BEYER FORD IN MORRISTOWN, NJ. I RECEIVED A CALL TODAY FROM THE FORD DEALER THAT THE POWER STEERING RACK HAS TO BE REPLACED. I LOOKED THIS ISSUE UP ON-LINE AND FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE AND NOT JUST ON EXPLORERS, BUT OTHER FORD VEHICLES AND DIFFERENT YEARS. I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE IT LITERALLY CAME OUT OF NOWHERE WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT 65 MPH. THAT POSSIBILITY THAT I COULD HAVE HAD MY FAMILY INCLUDING MY 6 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN THE VEHICLE AND GIVING DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES, IT COULD HAVE BEEN A CATASTROPHIC EVENT. WE ALSO OWN A 2011 FORD EXPLORER.

CARBON MONOXIDE IN CAB. EXPERIENCED HEADACHES AND EXTREME FATIGUE. HAD CO DETECTOR IN CAR AND SPIKED TO 18 PPM AND REMAINED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE IS A SQUAD CAR. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND THEY FOUND BAD FACTORY WELDS ON EXHAUST MANIFOLD ALONG FIREWALL.
THERE IS A RECALL CONCERNING THE CARBON MONOXIDE EXPOSURE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2015 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVER FAINTED FROM CARBON MONOXIDE ENTERING THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE DRIVER CRASHED INTO TWO VEHICLES BEFORE STOPPING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED BACK PAINS, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOWED THE VEHICLE AND DEEMED IT DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY A REPAIR FACILITY OR A DEALER. THE DEALER (CAPITAL FORD, 4900 CAPITAL BLVD, RALEIGH, NC 27616) AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING TO DETERMINE IF THE MANUFACTURER WOULD BE ABLE TO INVESTIGATE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: EA17002 (STRUCTURE, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE16008 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING, STRUCTURE).
