TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD EXPLORER. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE CONTACT NOTICED A ROTTEN EGG ODOR WITHOUT WARNING. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED NOT TO TOUCH THE FAILURE DUE TO A LACK OF REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REMEDIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 500.
ON ACCELERATION HAVE SMELL OF ROTTEN EGGS. HAVING HEADACHES ALSO. REPORTED TO DEALERSHIP BUT SAYING THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS WITH EXHAUST FUMES. I HAVE REPORTED TWICE BUT NO WORD UNTIL SEEING ON CBS ISSUES ON OTHER EXPLORERS. HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM SINCE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. THOUGHT AT FIRST IT WAS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER.
WHILE CRUISING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 69 MPH, I LOST ALL ACCELERATION TO THE GAS PEDAL. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED AND NOTICED THAT THE GAS PEDAL WAS DEAD. VERY SCARY SITUATION WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE. I WAS ABLE TO CRUISE TO THE NEAREST EXIT AND THEN GET TO A SIDE ROAD. I NOTICED THE CEL, WRENCH LIGHT, AND AIR BAG LIGHT HAS COME ON. I IMMEDIATELY RAN A "VEHICLE HEALTH REPORT" AND THE IT COMES BACK WITH 2 PROBLEMS. GET IT TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND THEY PROCEED TO TELL ME IT'S THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT WILL BE 2 - 4 WEEKS FOR PART BECAUSE IT'S ON BACK ORDER. NOT REALLY HAPPY ABOUT THIS SINCE THE VEHICLE IS 6 MONTHS OLD WITH 9185 MILES ON IT.
AT 70 MPH ON I-4, THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY FAILED, DROPPING THE ENGINE TO IDLE SPEED. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT COME OUT OF IDLE, AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE PART FAILED AT 6,300 MILES, LESS THAN 2,000 MILES AFTER THE CAR'S FIRST DEALERSHIP SERVICING. HAD I NOT BEEN IN THE SLOW LANE AT THE TIME, I WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF I-4, AND POSSIBLY KILLED.
WE BOUGHT FORD EXPLORER 2016 FROM VISTA FORD WOODLAND HILL AND WE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING THAT THERE IS ODER SMELL COMING OUT FROM THE AC VENT. AFTER REPEATED COMPLAIN THE SERVICE TEAM WASN'T ABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM SO FORD COOPERATE REFEREED TO THE ANOTHER DEALER GALPIN FOR THE SECOND OPTION AND THEY FOUND OUT THERE WAS A GAS LICKAGE FROM THE AC VENT AND THEY TRIED TO FIX IT BUT THERE STILL SMELL COMING OUT FROM AC VENT. MY AND MY WIFE HAVE BEEN FACING CONSTANT MEDICAL ISSUE SUCH AS HEAD ACE, DIFFICULT TO SLEEP IN THE NIGHT, RUNNING NOISE IN / AFTER TRAVEL IN THE SUV AND SOME IT MAKES ME FALL SLEEP WHILE DRIVING. FEW TIMES I ALMOST CAUSE ACCIDENT WHILE ON THE FREEWAY.
COMING OUT OF STOP SIGN THE VEHICLE STALLED, THEN IT WOULDN'T ACCELERATE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON VEHICLE WAS TOWED. DEALER DOESN'T KNOW WHEN THE NEW PART WILL ARRIVE. THE PROBLEM IS A BAD THROTTLE BODY.
WHILE MOVING AT HIGH SPEED IN RUSH-HOUR TRAFFIC IN THE FAST LANE ON HWY 680 S IN DUBLIN, CA THE ENGINE JUST SHUT DOWN. THIS IS DANGEROUS. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO FORD FOR REPAIR - THEY STATE IT WAS A "THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY" PROBLEM - APPARENTLY A WELL-KNOW PROBLEM. THIS HAPPENED WITH LESS THAN 6,000 MILES. ALSO, ALL 4 ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT TIRES BLEW-OUT WITH LESS THAN 6,000 MILES - ONLY ONE HAD A ROAD-HAZARD - ALL HAD SIDEWALL FAILURES. FORD REPAIRED THE THROTTLE-BODY ASSEMBLY BUT NOT THE TIRES. TO KEEP US HAPPY, THEY OFFERED US AN "EXTENDED WARRANTY" - THIS WAS NEVER PROVIDED - INDEED, DESPITE REPEATED E-MAILS TO 2 FORD REPRESENTATIVES OVER A 3-MONTH TIME-PERIOD, I NO LONGER RECEIVE ANY RESPONSE FROM THEM WHATSOEVER. THEREFORE, IT WOULD SEEM THAT NOT ONLY ARE THEY PROVIDING A DANGEROUS PRODUCT, THEY ARE ALSO DECEPTIVE IN THEIR HANDLING OF CUSTOMERS.
I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY HOME FROM WORK WITH NORMAL TRAFFIC. MY SPEED WAS APPROX 60-64 OR SO. WHILE IN LEFT LANE TRAVELING EAST --WITHOUT WARNING , MY ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. IT WAS SO HARD TO STEER MY CAR -- I NEEDED TO WEDGE MY FOOT NEAR WINDOW /DRIVER DOOR TO GAIN LEVERAGE -AND WITH BOTH HANDS STEER THE CAR ( WHILE DECELERATING DOWN T O15 MPH) TO THE SHOULDER ON THE RIGHT SIDE. ALL DRIVERS PASSING ME - WITNESSED I WAS IN DIRE TROUBLE. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO SHOULDER AND PRAYED . MY REP AT QUEENS FORD WAS VERY HELPFUL AND I VE THANKED HIM NUMEROUS TIMES IN HIS ATTEMPTS TO HELP ME .BACK TO STORY: I OPENED THE HOOD , NO SMOKE -- MAYBE RADIATOR- SO I WAITED 10 MINUTES .THE ENGINE STARTED , I GOT BACK ON HIGHWAY-- AND IT SHUT OFF FOR A 2ND TIME. AT THAT TIME -- I WAS TOTALLY AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR ANY FURTHER. MY QUEENS REP SUGGESTED GOING TO SYOSSET FORD WHICH WAS CLOSER AND I DID SO.IT TOOK ME WHAT FELT LIKE DAYS TO GET UP ENOUGH NERVE TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE ANY FURTHER.I BELIEVE MY CASE HAS MANY SAFETY ISSUES AND I EVEN STATED TO FORD TAKE CAR BACK AND REPLENISH ME FOR LOSS OF INCOME / RENTAL FEES PAID DURING THE 7 DAY ORDEAL. PROBLEM WAS : THROTTLE BODY PART. I WASN'T THE ONLY PERSON WHO HAD COME IN WITH THIS PROBLEM . FORD IS VERY COGNIZANT ABOUT SUCH . I ASKED THEM THIS VEHICLE BACK ( HAS 5910 MILES ) ON IT AND PUT ME INTO ANOTHER LINCOLN PRODUCT WHICH IS SIMILAR. NOR HAVE THE ADDITIONAL MEANS TO RENT ANOTHER CAR.I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE FROM FORD EVER. IF YOU CAN ASSIST ME TO ALERT OTHERS - FANTASTIC. OH , ADDITIONALLY, I OWNED A 2003 LINCOLN NAVIGATOR WHICH CONSTANTLY HAD ISSUES - AND THEY ( FORD /LINCOLN ) TOOK THAT VEHICLE IN UNDER NYS LEMON LAW -AND PROVIDED ME A NEW 2004 NAVIGATOR FOR NO COST AT ALL. DUE TO THAT EFFORT FROM FORD/LINCOLN . IVE BOUGHT 4 MORE FORD SINCE THEN . I SHOWED MY LOYALTY TO THEM , WHERE IS FORD'S .
I WAS DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, AS WELL AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AND THE CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATOR FUNCTION. I WAS ABLE TO COAST ONLY. I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT WHEN THIS OCCURRED. SINCE I WAS ALREADY IN A PARKING LOT, I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO A PARKING SPOT. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO SAFETY THREAT, AS IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE IF I WAS ON THE FREEWAY OR CITY STREETS. THE DEALERSHIP REPORTS THIS IS A THROTTLE PROBLEM AND THE PART IS ON BACKORDER UNTIL 5/30/16.
WHILE PLACING GROCERIES INTO THE TRUNK TODAY THE LIFT GATE BEGAN TO CLOSE SPONTANEOUSLY ON MY DAUGHTER AND I. WE WERE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO JUMP OUT OF THE WAY BEFORE IT CLOSED. WE TRIED TO PUSH ON IT BUT IT CONTINUED TO DESCEND. THE MILEAGE IS 4642. I HAVE HAD 5 OTHER ISSUES WITH THE LIFT GATE SPONTANEOUSLY OPENING AFTER I HAVE WALKED AWAY FROM THE CAR. THANKFULLY I HAVE BEEN ALERTED TO IT WHEN I HIT THE LOCK BUTTON ON THE KEY FOB AND GET THE OPEN DOOR SIGNAL. I HAVE ONLY BEEN ABLE TO USE THE "HANDS-FREE" LIFT GATE THREE TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN FEBRUARY.
MY CAR (FORD EXPLORER 2016) ENGINE STALLED (DURING DRIVING/MOTION) IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET (I WAS VERY LUCKY IT DID NOT HAPPEN ON A HIGHWAY!). THE ENGINE LIGHT INDICATION TURNED ON. FORD DEALER TOLD ME IT IS THE 'THROTTLE BODY' PART THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THEY WILL ORDER THE PART. THEY TOLD ME IT CAN TAKE UP TO 5 WEEKS TO RECEIVE IT BUT IN THE MEANTIME I CAN DRIVE MY CAR, ONLY AFTER I CONFRONTED THEM ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE CAR THEY SUGGESTED THAT I WILL NOT DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL THE PART WILL BE REPLACED. I AM WRITING TO YOU IN ORDER TO PREVENT ANY UNSAFE SITUATION FOR ANY OTHER DRIVERS/PASSENGERS AS RESULT OF MY CASE. THANKS
AFTER HAVING JUST ENTERED A PARKING GARAGE, WE PROCEEDED OVER A SPEED BUMP AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH. ABOUT 1-2 CAR LENGTHS LATER WE BEGAN TO TURN LEFT TO START ASCENDING THROUGH THE GARAGE TO LOCATE A PARKING SPACE. AFTER ONLY TURNING APPROXIMATELY 10 DEGREES TO THE LEFT, THE STEERING WHEEL SNAPPED TO THE STRAIGHT POSITION AND WOULD NOT MOVE. THERE WAS APPROXIMATELY 1/2" OF PLAY TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT ONLY AND THE WHEELS WOULD NOT TURN AT ALL. THIS WAS WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN MOTION. RECEIVED THREE DISCERNABLE ERROR MESSAGES ON DASH THAT RECURRED REPEATEDLY EACH TIME IT WAS CLEARED WITH THE OK BUTTON: 1. TERRAIN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FAULT, 2. SERVICE ADVANCE TRAK, AND 3. HILL ASSIST FAULT. THE VEHICLE WOULD STILL DRIVE FORWARD OR REVERSE BUT WE HAD NO ABILITY TO STEER DESPITE EVEN MY HUSBAND'S STRONG PULL ON THE WHEEL. AFTER ABOUT 5-6 ATTEMPTS AT POWERING OFF AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING REMAINED "LOCKED". AFTER ABOUT 45 MINUTES OF WAITING AND TALKING ON THE PHONE WITH FORD TO OBTAIN A TOW, MY HUSBAND RESTARTED AGAIN AND THE STEERING WAS RESTORED.
HI I NEED HELP WE ARE HAVING ISSUE WITH OUR 2016 FORD EXPLORER SPORT WE ONLY HAVE IT FOR 3 MONTHS 2K MILEAGE, WE NOTICED THE HOOD VIBRATE AT 65MPH OR OVER ON FREEWAY, I BROUGHT IT TO MY NEAREST FORD DEALER, "FORD SERRAMONTE" ON 05/16/16 THE SERVICE MANAGER NAME HENRY SAID THEY ARE AWARE OF IT BUT COULDN'T DO ANYTHING & THEY ARE WAITING FOR FORD TO FIND THE SOLUTION TO FIX IT, BUT THEY DIDN'T EVEN CHECK THE HOOD. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER CARE TEAM ON 05/18/16 & THEY OPEN A CASE, CASE NUMBER: CAS-9514452-P1Y5C2 TARA MELVIN COSTUMER CARE MANGER HANDLING THE CASE. WE ARE PROSTRATED BECAUSE IT'S BRAND NEW CAR & ALREADY HAS A LOT OF PROBLEMS, IT WAS DISTRACTIVE DRIVING THE VEHICLE SO I'M SCARED SPECIALLY I'M ALWAYS WITH MY 1YR & 4YRS OLD SON, THEY JUST TOLD ME TO WAIT & IT'S BEEN MORE THAN A MONTH NOW & STILL HAVEN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. WE BOUGHT THIS SUV THINKING IT'S A RELIABLE & SAFETY CAR FOR OUR FAMILY BUT THERE'S TO MUCH ISSUES, -BATTERY DIED, I CALLED THE ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, THE DEALER SAID IT MIGHT BE THE BACK UP CAMERA THAT CONSUMING THE POWER FROM THE BATTERY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS NOT RUNNING, NOW THE CAMERA IS BACKORDER ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. WE'RE SCARED IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN IF WE'RE ON A TRIP. -LOW FUEL ECONOMY, I'M ONLY GETTING 12.6 AVG MPG. VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION SUDDENLY: FIRST TIME HAPPENED WHEN I STOPPED AT THE INTERSECTION WAITING THE TRAFFIC TO CLEAR AND WHEN I WANT THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE IT DID NOT SO I PULLED OVER AND TURNED ENGINE OFF AND RESTART IT FIVE MINUETS LATER AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATE AND I MANAGE TO REACH MY DESTINATION, NEXT DAY I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FORD DEALER BECAUSE THE SERVICE POWERTRAIN FAULT ILLUMINATES. FORD DEALER SAID THAT THE PROBLEM IS THE THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTION AND NEED TO BE REPLACED BUT THE PART IS ON A BACK ORDER AND IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR FEW WEEKS, THE DEALER ADVICE ME TO USE THE VEHICLE AND IF HAPPENED AGAIN TO CALL HIM BACK ALTHOUGH I WAS CONCERN ABOUT SAFETY OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. NEXT DAY THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED MORE FREQUENT AND IT HAPPENED WHILE I AM DRIVING AND LUCKILY I MANAGED TO PULL OVER SAFELY, THIS TIME THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON ILLUMINATES AS WELL AND STAYS ILLUMINATED AFTER I RESTART THE ENGINE. I CONTACTED THE FORD DEALER AGAIN AND I GOT THE SAME ANSWER: YOU HAVE TO WAIT TILL WE GET THE PART TO FIX YOUR VEHICLE !!. .. I TOLD THEM THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND FORD SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO HAVE THE PARTS AND REMEDY AVAILABLE ASAP

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY FAILED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,806.
DRIVING HOME FROM WORK IN MY 2 MONTH OLD 2016 FORD EXPLORER WITH 1900 MILES ON IT AND WAS MERGING INTO FREEWAY TRAFFIC WHEN THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. WAS PUSHING ON THE GAS PEDAL AND COULD HEAR THE ENGINE BUT THE SPEED OF MY CAR WAS STALLED AT 35 MPH AND A WRENCH LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET OFF THE FREEWAY AND INTO A GAS STATION WHERE I CALLED FOR A TOW. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED I TRIED MOVING THE CAR TO MAKE IT EASIER TO GET ON THE TRUCK BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE IN REVERSE OR FORWARD. FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT TELLS ME IT IS THE TRANSMISSION AND SEVERAL PARTS NEED TO BE REPLACED AND A FEW OF THEM ARE ON BACKORDER. THE CAR HAS BEEN UN DRIVABLE AND IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR 11 DAYS ALREADY AND THEY TELL ME MAYBE IN ANOTHER 10 DAYS THE BACKORDERED PARTS MAY BE AVAILABLE

THE DEALER SUPPOSEDLY ADDRESSED TSB 17-0044 AND HAD THE CONTACT RETRIEVE THE VEHICLE, BUT THEY PROVIDED NO SPECIFIC SOLUTION TO PREVENT THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT AND DRIVER EXPERIENCED HEADACHES FROM THE FUMES ENTERING THE VEHICLE FOR MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: EA17002 (STRUCTURE, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 0.
PURCHASED 2016 FORD EXPLORER IN APRIL OF 2016. INITIALLY, SHORTLY AFTER THE PURCHASE, I CONTINUALLY NOTICED THE SMELL OF BURNING PLASTIC FROM THE ENGINE AREA AFTER A LOT OF CITY DRIVING. I ASSUMED IT WAS THE FACT THE VEHICLE WAS NEW AND WAS STILL BREAKING IN. SEVERAL MONTHS WENT BY AND I SIMPLY BECAME ACCUSTOMED TO IT. READ ONLINE ABOUT PLASTIC BAGS MAKING THAT SMELL SOMETIMES WHEN STUCK ON THE HOT EXHAUST PIPES AND THOUGHT IT COULD BE THAT. DIDN'T THINK ABOUT IT MUCH BECAUSE IT WAS NOT OVERBEARING IN THE CABIN. HOWEVER, AS OF SEVERAL WEEKS AGO, SMELL WAS GETTING WORSE SO I MENTIONED TO DEALER. THEY TOLD ME IT'S AN EXHAUST LEAK. IT'S TAKEN TWO WEEKS TO ORDER THE PARTS AND GET ME RESCHEDULED FOR SERVICE AND THE SMELL HAS BECOME MUCH WORSE SINCE THAT VISIT. WONDERING IF TECH LOOSENED EXHAUST SYSTEM. VERY HARD TO DRIVE WITH THE WINDOWS UP - NEEDS CONSTANT FLOW OF FRESH AIR. SMELLS MORE LIKE "TYPICAL" EXHAUST SMELL NOW - INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. I DRIVE 30-50 MILES IN THE CITY EACH DAY, SO IT'S A CONSTANT SMELL. CAN'T PARK IN THE GARAGE BECAUSE ODOR GETS INTO THE HOUSE. JUST LEARNING THAT IT'S AN EXHAUST LEAK HAS ME WORRIED BECAUSE I HAVE TOLERATED THIS FOR OVER A YEAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 72 MPH, EXHAUST FUMES ENTERED THE VEHICLE DURING ACCELERATION WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ACTIVATED. THE CONTACT BECAME ILL FROM THE ABNORMAL ODOR AND VOMITED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN THREE TIMES TO A LOCAL DEALER (RODEO FORD, 13680 W TEST DR, GOODYEAR, AZ 85338) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SEALING NEEDED TO BE ADDED TO THE VEHICLE AND THE MUFFLER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: 12964208. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. COOLING FAN SHUT DOWN NOISE, SINCE NEW THE ENGINE COOLING FAN MAKES A LOT OF NOISE WHEN "SPINNING DOWN" AT THE FAN COMES TO A STOP/SHUTTING DOWN ENGINE. FAN IS WORKING, BUT FOR HOW LONG?
SUDDEN LOSS OF ACCELERATION, WITH SERVICE INDICATORS LIGHTING ON DASHBOARD. PULLED OFF ROAD, RESTARTED, WORKED OK FOR 10 MILES, THEN THE PROBLEM RETURNED. THIS TIME, THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. HAD CAR TOWED TO FORD DEALER, AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT THEY HAVE NO ETA DUE TO THE PART NOT BEING AVAILABLE ANYWHERE. THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR 4 MONTHS, AND THE FACT THAT THIS SIMPLE PART FAILED AND NO REPLACEMENTS ARE IN-STOCK ANYWHERE INDICATES TO ME THERE IS SOME WIDESPREAD PROBLEM.
THE AUTOMATIC LIFTGATE FUNCTIONED ON ITS OWN WITHOUT ANY OPERATOR INPUT. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES WITHIN APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH OF OWNERSHIP. ALSO ONE INSTANCE OF LIFTGATE CLOSING ON HEAD. FORD CLAIMS THEY ARE AWARE OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND IS WORKING ON A FIX.??? IF THE OPERATOR WERE NOT AWARE THIS OCCURRED AND A CHILD OR PET WERE IN THE 3RD ROW, THIS COULD HAVE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES. PLEASE SEE ATTACHED REPAIR ORDER WITH FORD'S RESPONSE. ALL INSTANCES SO FAR WERE VEHICLE IN PARK WITH OPERATOR NEAR THE REAR END OR BEHIND OF THE VEHICLE.
WHEN ACCELERATING TO MERGE ONTO THE HIGHWAY IT SMELLS AS IF EXHAUST FUMES ARE ENTERING THE CABIN. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS IS SAFE OR HEALTHY IF IN FACT I'M BREATHING EXHAUST FUMES. PLEASE REVIEW AND ADVISE. THANK YOU.
ON 22 APR 2016 OUR SON WAS IN TOWN VISITING WHEN HE WAS LOOKING OVER OUR NEW VEHICLE AND NOTICE THAT THE SCREWS THAT HOLD THE BELT TENSIONER IN PLACE WERE ALMOST ALL THE WAY OUT. SINCE MY SON IS A MECHANIC HE ADVISED US NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE SINCE THIS COULD CAUSE A CATASTROPHIC MALFUNCTION LEADING TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 1681 MILES ON IT AND WE IMMEDIATELY CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP WHICH ALSO TOLD US TO CONTACT ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP TIGHTEN THE BOLTS DOWN AND ACCORDING TO THE INVOICE (ATTACHED) THAT THE BOLTS NEVER WERE TIGHTEN DOWN AT THE FACTORY. I'VE INCLUDED A COUPLE PHOTOS. I'VE CONTACTED FORD AND OPENED A CASE FILE SINCE THIS APPEARS TO BE ISSUES AT THE PLANT AND WHO KNOWS HOW MANY OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. THE QUALITY CONTROL INSPECTIONS SHOULD HAVE IDENTIFIED THIS ISSUE AND FIXED IT! AFTER I FILED THE COMPLAINT (CASE # CAS-9331585) I WAS TOLD THAT NO ONE WILL PROBABLY GET BACK WITH ME REGARDING THIS ISSUE. I HAD REQUESTED TO TALK WITH EITHER A FORD SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE OF THE QUALITY CONTROL MANAGER AT THE CHICAGO FORD PLANT TO EXPRESS MY CONCERNS. I BELIEVE FORD SHOULD PUT OUT AN IMMEDIATE SERVICE NOTICE TO HAVE INDIVIDUALS CHECK THE TENSIONER BOLTS ON THEIR 2016 FORD EXPLORERS SINCE THIS CAN LEAD TO A MAJOR MALFUNCTION WHICH COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS IF NOT DEADLY ACCIDENT.
I AM HAVING FUME LEAKAGE INTO THE CABIN OF MY VEHICLE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO DAHL FORD -LA CROSSE AND THEY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 WEEKS. WHEN I CALLED THE TECH PERSON TOLD ME THEY WERE WAITING FOR PARTS TO FIX MY VEHICLE AND THAT THERE WAS A LEAK INTO THE CABIN. AFTER ANOTHER WEEK WENT BY WITHOUT ANY WORD I CALLED AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. I WENT INTO SEE THE DEPT MANAGER AND HE SAID THERE WAS NEVER ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. WHEN I ASKED HIM WHO WAS LYING HIM OR THE TECH PERSON HE DID NOT REPLY. THEY SAID THEY HAD THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT TEST THE VEHICLE FOR CARBON MONOXIDE BUT THEY DID NOT LIST UNDER WHAT CONDITIONS IT WAS TESTED AT. I HAD MY OWN CARBON MONOXIDE TESTER IN THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS REGISTERING CARBON MONOXIDE. I LEFT VERY UPSET AS I HAVE BEEN SICK AFTER I DRIVE IN THE VEHICLE. THEY WON'T LET ME OUT OF MY LEASE EITHER AND WON'T DO ANYTHING TO FIX. I LEFT VERY UPSET. THE FUMES OCCUR WHEN SITTING IDLE AND AIR CONDITIONER ON AND WHEN MOVING, AIR CONDITIONER ON AND ACCELERATING. I SENT A LETTER TO FORD CORPORATE EXPLAINING THIS IN SEPTEMBER 2016 AND HAVE NOT HEARD A WORD BACK.

AS THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN, THE "WRENCH" LIGHT IN CLUSTER PANEL CAME ON AND VEHICLE WENT INTO "LIMP MODE". AFTER INITIAL INCIDENT, THE CAR RESTARTED BACK IN NORMAL MODE. HOWEVER, THE SAME INCIDENT BEGAN TO OCCUR SEVERAL TIMES PER DAY UNTIL THE VEHICLE COULD BE TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE IS BRAND NEW WITH ONLY 6,850 MILES. THE DEALERSHIP HAS HAD THE VEHICLE FOR A WEEK NOW AND STILL CAN'T TELL ME WHEN THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE TO GET VEHICLE BACK ON THE ROAD. FORD HAS HAD AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THROTTLE BODIES FOR YEARS, WHY CAN'T THEY FIX THE PROBLEM?
WHILE IN MOTION ON CITY STREET AT 45 MPH, BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND IN EXPECTED MANNER. PRESSING BRAKE PEDAL AS FAR AS POSSIBLE, THERE WAS ALMOST NO BRAKING ACTION TO SLOW VEHICLE.
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2016 FORD EXPLORER XLT WITH THE FOOT ACTIVATION LIFTGATE FEATURE. WHILE LOADING A LARGE ITEM IN THE REAR CARGO AREA OF THE PARKED VEHICLE, THE FOOT ACTIVATED CLOSURE FUNCTION WAS UNEXPECTEDLY TRIGGERED AND THE LIFTGATE PROCEEDED TO CLOSE ON ME. THE LIFTGATE DID NOT STOP ONCE IT HIT ME. I HAD TO APPLY EXTREME CROSS FORCE PRESSURE TO STOP THE CLOSING PROCESS AND TRIGGER THE SAFETY STOP MECHANISM. HAD THIS MALFUNCTION OCCURRED WHILE MY 4 YEAR OLD CHILD WAS RETRIEVING OR PLACING AN ITEM IN THE VEHICLE, HER HEAD OR NECK WOULD HAVE BEEN CRUSHED. FURTHER TESTING AND TRYING TO SHUT THE LIFTGATE ON MYSELF VIA THE KEY FOB OR THE TAILGATE BUTTON DID NOT PRODUCE THE SAME RESULT. THE SAFETY STOP DETECTED MY PRESENCE UPON INITIAL IMPACT, AND RE-OPENED, AS EXPECTED. I AM FURIOUS THAT THIS UNEXPECTED CLOSING VIA ACCIDENTAL ACTIVATION VIA THE FOOT SENSOR ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED, EVEN THOUGH A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH PULLS BACK MANY OWNER COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE. THE COMPLAINTS GO BACK SEVERAL MODEL YEARS. THIS FEATURE IS COMMONLY INSTALLED ON ALL DEALER STOCK VEHICLES, SO FORD SHOULD ADDRESS THE INCONSISTENCY OF THE FOOT ACTIVATION SENSOR, OR AT LEAST INCORPORATE A SETTING THAT ALLOWS THE OWNER TO DISABLE THIS FUNCTION VIA THE VEHICLE SETTINGS. SAFETY NEEDS TO EXCEED ANY VALUE OF A CONVENIENCE FEATURE.

FILLED UP WITH GAS AND THE LIGHTS WENT AWAY. TODAY, GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY I LOST ALL POWER. TALK ABOUT ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN! LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO CRUISE TO A EXIT AND INTO A PARKING LOT. HAD TO CALL FORD TOWING TO COME AND GET ME. THIS IS A 2016 FORD EXPLORER. ONLY 7000 MILES. BRAND NEW VEHICLE SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. THEN THE SENSORS AROUND THE CAR GO OFF WHEN THERE IS NOTHING AROUND. I KNOW I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS LOST OF POWER ISSUE. I BELIEVE THAT THE ONLY WAY TO ACTUALLY GET SOME ASSISTANCE WITH THIS PROBLEM IS AFTER SOMEONE GETS HURT AND SUES FORD. ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THERE IS A KNOCKING SOUND AS SOON AS THE CAR IS TURNED ON AND DRIVEN. YOU FEEL AND THE STEER WHEEL KNOCK ALONG WITH THE SOUND.
FAULTY THROTTLE BOTTLE. WHILE CRUISING SLIGHTLY UNDER HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE VEHICLE ENTERED "LIMP MODE" WHICH PREVENTS THE MAINTAINING OF SPEEDS CREATING A SAFETY HAZARD. NEW THROTTLE BODIES ARE ON "INDEFINITE" BACK ORDER WHICH IN MY OPINION CORRELATES WITH A SYSTEMIC, ONGOING ISSUE.

A SHARP METAL PIECE PROTRUDES FROM THE THIRD ROW SEAT ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE MAKING IT UNSAFE TO SIT IN THIRD ROW. DEALER CALLS IT A SPRING RETAINER. DEALER STATES IT POPS OUT DUE TO HAVING ITEMS IN TRUNK WHILE FOLDING OR RAISING THE THIRD ROW SEAT. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY.
THERE ARE EXHAUST FUMES COMING INTO THE CABIN OF THIS 2016 FORD EXPLORER. THE SMELL STINKS AND THE GASES HAVE MADE THE OCCUPANTS OF THE EXPLORER SICK. THE DEALERSHIP HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THE SMELL. IT HAS HAD AT LEAST NINE OPPORTUNITIES TO FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT IT HAS BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL. FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE EXHAUST FUMES COME INTO THE CABIN AT VARIOUS TIMES. THE PROBLEM USUALLY OCCURS WHEN THE REAR A/C RE-CIRCULATION IS ON AND WHEN THERE IS HEAVY ACCELERATION OR GOING UPHILL. THERE HAVE NOT BEEN ANY ALTERATIONS TO THE EXPLORER EXCEPT FOR THE REPAIRS ATTEMPTED BY THE DEALERSHIP. IN MAY 2017, THE DEALERSHIP USED TSB 17-0044 TO TRY TO STOP THE FUMES FROM COMING INTO THE CABIN. AGAIN, IT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. IT APPEARS THE FORD TOLD THE DEALERSHIP TO ALSO TRY TSB 14-0130. THAT REPAIR DID NOT WORK EITHER.

I TOOK MY EXPLORER TO DEALERSHIP PURCHASED FROM SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING, BUT WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG. NETWEEN FEB AND MAY 2016 IS WHEN I MADE APPOINTMENT AT DEALER FOR THEM TO TAKE A LOOK. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS TO THIS DAY. I ROLL THE WINDOW DOWN TO LET THE SMELL OUT WHEN IT HAPPENS.

The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the driver’s and passenger’s side A-Pillar trim panels were not properly secured to the vehicle. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was 15,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
