Additionally, while depressing the accelerator pedal, the brakes unintendedly engaged. The “Scheduled Maintenance” light was illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and depressed the accelerator pedal seven times, and the vehicle started to operate as intended. The contact stated that a dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was test-driven, and the dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was operating as designed. The contact related the failure to the results of a Google search on the throttle body. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case. The approximate failure mileage was 136,000.

The contact stated that the failure was intermittent and mostly occurred while driving up an incline. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. I was stopped at a major intersection (very busy) at a red light when my car quit. I tried to restart the car but nothing happened. I was at the bottom of a hill, which has a turn not long before you reach this intersection, the speed limit is 45 mph but its normal for cars to average 50-60 mph. I put my flashers on and called AAA. Cars were piling up behind me trying to get in the other lane, horns were blowing, it was a dangerous situation! I had to remain in my car as it was not safe to get out and try to get to the side of the road. After about 15 minutes I tried to start the car again, I was able to get it going and remove myself from an unsafe situation. The car was not running properly, it was "bucking" and trying to stall, fortunately I was able to get to a safe area to pull over and get it towed. The above was written by my wife, I was not there. I am a retired Staff Engineer for a major OE and have authored many Recalls over my 35 years. This issue is a dangerous pattern failure that Ford issued a Stop Sale for. The failed part, the ETB located on the Throttle body is used on multible models with exactly the same failure. How this hasn't been recalled is amazing. This is a known safety problem, pattern failure of the ETB across madels lines that use that engine (3.5). My car is safe now but what about the ones that will failure tomorrow?

On Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at about 4:00 pm I proceeded to parallel park my vehicle and as I put my foot on the gas pedal the car took off uncontrollably at a very high speed, I tried to control the car but before I could stop it, I crashed and hit a tree. My vehicle was severely damaged. The vehicle was taken to the Dealer for inspection, and I was told there was nothing wrong. I know what happened and there is something wrong with this vehicle. I am glad that the tree was there because if not I believe I would have ended inside the house that was behind the tree and could have injured someone. My vehicle is at the body shop now, but I don't think I will drive it anymore, I don't feel safe in it.

The contact also mentioned that the side-view mirrors would independently adjust while driving at various speeds. The contact stated that he manually adjusted the mirrors to correct his driving visibility. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The contact was then transferred to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000.
WE ARE DRIVING BACK FROM ZION NATIONAL PARK THEN IN THE FREEWAY SUDDENLY I LOST POWER LUCKILY IT WAS ON A DOWN HILL. I WENT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THEN THEN COUPLE I STARTED RIGHT BACK. NOW AM AFRAID DRIVING IT FAR AWAY. FROM TIME TO TIME WHEN UPHILL IT JERK A BIT AND IT FEELS LIKE LOOSING POWER.
USING A PEDAL COMMANDER PC18 BLUETOOTH "THROTTLE ENHANCER" IN AN EMERGENCY VEHICLE EQUIPPED WITH A VHF MOBILE TWO-WAY RADIO. THE RADIO TRANSMITS AT 50W AND IS INSTALLED BY A PROFESSIONAL EMERGENCY VEHICLE UPFITTER PER MANUFACTURERS INSTRUCTIONS. WHEN TRANSMITTING IN THE 156MHZ RANGE THE PEDAL COMMAND CONSISTENTLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO BEGIN ACCELERATING WHEN IN DRIVE, AND INCREASING THE RPM OF THE ENGINE IN PARK. THE ACCELERATION CONTINUES AS LONG AS THE USER IS TRANSMITTING ON THE TWO-WAY RADIO. AS SOON AS THE TRANSMISSING ENDS THE VEHICLE GOES BACK TO IDLE OR RPMS CONSISTENT WITH THE PEDAL POSITION. THESE SYMPTOMS GO AWAY AS SOON AS THE PC18 IS REMOVED. THIS ISSUE WAS ALSO EXPERIENCED BY OTHER USERS WITH PC18 AND RADIOS THAT TRANSMIT IN THE MID 150MHZ RANGE.

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.

2016 FORD EXPLORER ACCELERATES WHILE DRIVING. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF DEALERSHIP SINCE 12/26/17. I AM CURRENTLY IN A LOANER VEHICLE. RECEIVE UPDATE FIRST WEEK OF FEB 2018 THAT THE TRANSMISSION DEPT WAS BEHIND AND THAT THEY WILL LET ME KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IF I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION.
WHEN DRIVING ESPECIALLY ON FREEWAY, THE VEHICLE STARTS TO STALL AND TAKES TIME TO FIND THE SPEED. IT'S COME CLOSE TO ACCIDENTS AS I'VE TRIED TO GET OVER IN TIME WHEN MERGING. HAS HAPPENED SO FAR MORE THAN 5 TIMES. SOMETIME IT HAPPENS AS SOON AS YOU ENTER THE FREEWAY.
TRAVELLING AT 70 MPH MY VEHICLE'S RPMS DROPPED TO 500 - 1000, THE ACCELERATOR BECAME UNRESPONSIVE, AND I WAS FORCED TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IN SPEAKING WITH THE MECHANICS AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP, THE CAUSE OF THE ISSUE WAS A FAILURE OF THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY (ETB). MY CAR WAS JUST OVER THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY, AND ALTHOUGH THERE WAS A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION BULLETIN ISSUED, MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED. THERE IS ALSO AN ACTIVE CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT FOR THE SAME ISSUE IN PREVIOUS MODEL YEARS, NOT INCLUDING 2016. I SPOKE DIRECTLY WITH FORD VIA A PHONE CALL, WHO APOLOGIZED AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO COMPENSATE ME FOR THE EXPENSE. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, AND PUT MY FAMILY IN DANGER. IN MY OPINION, FORD IS NOT BACKING THEIR PRODUCTS FOR WHAT IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.
WHILE DRIVING @ 50MPH ON A MULTI LANE ROAD, ENGINE IMMEDIATELY WENT TO IDLE AND THE GAS PEDAL WAS INOPERATIVE. LOST ALL POWER AND VEHICLE CAME TO A COASTING STOP. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS AN EXIT NEARBY AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE MAIN ROAD. TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE BUT NO EFFECT. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. FORTUNATELY THIS DID NOT HAPPEN DURING RUSH HOUR AS THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET, THIS APPEARS TO BE A SYSTEMATIC PROBLEM WITH FORD. JUST WANTED TO GO ON RECORD THAT I ALSO HAD THIS PROBLEM. VEHICLE HAS 11K MILES.

VEHICLE DROVE NORMAL BUT STILL HAD ENGINE LIGHT ON. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND WAITING ON DIAGNOSTIC. COULD OF BEEN A DANGEROUS SITUATION IF IN HEAVY TRAFFIC.

VEHICLE HAS 6,700 MILES AND THE DEALER SAYS THE PROBLEM WAS A SOFTWARE GLITCH THAT THEY KNEW ABOUT AND WERE GOING TO FIX AT MY 7,000 MILE SERVICE. I WAS LUCKY I WAS NOT ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. IF FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS GLITCH IT SHOULD BE FIXED RIGHT AWAY!

VEHICLE LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING DOWN A BUSY HIGHWAY AT 65+ MPH. ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGH (SOUNDED LIKE A TRACTOR) AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE. DASH LIGHTS CAME ON. VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO COAST TO AN EXIT RAMP WHERE IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED. MILEAGE WAS JUST OVER 7,000. IT IS SAD THAT I HAD TO RESCUE MY FAMILY (WIFE, 4 MONTH OLD BABY, 3 YEAR OLD AND 6 YEAR OLD) OFF A BUSY HIGHWAY EXIT RAMP WHEN THE VEHICLE IS LESS THAN 6 MONTHS OLD. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAID HE GETS ABOUT 3 OR 4 OF THE SAME ISSUE WITH NEW EXPLORERS A WEEK. HOW CAN THIS NOT BE A RECALL? NOW WE WILL DRIVE IN FEAR OF THIS PROBLEM OCCURRING AGAIN SINCE, FROM WHAT THE DEALER SAID, THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED WITH THE EXACT SAME PART. I GUESS WE JUST WON'T TAKE ANY LONG TRIPS WHEN WE ARE AROUND 7,000 MILES ON THIS THROTTLE BODY...? UNBELIEVABLE FORD. WHAT A PIECE OF JUNK!
