THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:MOUNTING). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE RUSTED STRAPS ALSO CONTRIBUTED TO THE CORRODING OF THE FUEL TANK, CREATING HOLES IN THE TANK. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT REPAIRS TO THE FUEL TANK WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 126,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 FORD F-150. WHILE REFUELING, THE CONTACT NOTICED FUEL LEAKING FROM THE FUEL TANK. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR FUEL TANK STRAP WAS FRACTURED DUE TO CORROSION AND APPROXIMATELY ONE GALLON OF FUEL SPILLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:MOUNTING) AND WOULD BE REPAIRED. AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR, THE CONTACT NOTICED FUEL CONTINUED TO LEAK FROM THE FUEL TANK NECK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER BUT THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK NECK WAS FRACTURED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED BUT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 239,000.

APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS LATER, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS LEAKING. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THEY DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED NEXT TO A RESIDENTIAL GARAGE. LATER THAT NIGHT, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THE VEHICLE ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE FIRE COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A GARAGE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 150,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER RECEIVING NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN I.D. 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:MOUNTING), THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR RECALL REPAIRS. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED FOR THE RECALL REPAIR WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT CALLED MANUFACTURER TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE DEALER NOT HAVING THE PARTS AND THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE DEALER SHOULD HAVE THE PARTS READILY AVAILABLE. THE DEALER THEN STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD TO SEND THE PARTS IN ORDER FOR THE RECALL TO BE COMPLETED. THE MANUFACTURER SENT THE PARTS FOR THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,612.

SHE NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK COMING FROM THE VEHICLE ALONG WITH A STRONG ODOR AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED HER THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE FUEL TANK WHERE THE OLD STRAPS WERE REMOVED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

RECALL CORRECTION TURNS TO EXPLOSION DANGER! FORD ISSUED RECALL #11 S 21 ON THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL TANK STRAPS. BEST FORD OF NASHUA PERFORMED THE SERVICE TO INSTALL NEW STRAPS ON OCTOBER 7, 2011. IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE RECALL WORK, A VEHICLE REPORT ON BEST FORD LETTERHEAD WAS PROVIDED SHOWING ALL SYSTEMS WERE IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. ON OCTOBER 21, 2011, DURING A REGULAR OIL CHANGE THE SERVICE PERSON ADVISED ME THAT MY FUEL TANK WAS LEAKING. I IMMEDIATELY REPORTED IT TO BEST FORD ON OCTOBER 21, 2011 TO WHICH THEY REFUSED TO CORRECT THE LEAK. THEY INSISTED THAT FORD WOULD NOT COVER ANY OTHER REPAIRS. I INFORMED THE BEST FORD SERVICE MANAGER THAT FAULT WAS THEIRS AND DID FILE A WRITTEN COMPLAINT. I HAVE RETURNED TO BEST FORD ON THREE ADDITIONAL OCCASIONS AND SENT NOT LESS THAN FIVE EMAILS TO REQUEST A FACE TO FACE MEETING. THEY HAVE IN EACH CASE REFUSED TO FIX THE LEAK CAUSED AS A RESULT OF THE RECALL WORK PERFORMED IN THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT. COMPLAINTS HAVE ALSO BEEN SENT TO FORD MOTOR CO (CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THE CEO) AND THEY HAVE LIKEWISE REFUSED TO ASSIST WITH CORRECTIVE ACTION. THE POSSIBILITY OF A FUEL TANK STRAP MAY HAVE BEEN CORRECTED, HOWEVER, MY VERY MAINTAINED F150 IS NOW A PRESENT DANGER OF EXPLOSION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 FORD F150. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 25 MPH WHEN THE LATCH ON THE DRIVER SEAT FRACTURED, CAUSING THE SEAT TO FALL BACKWARD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH WHEN A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT THEN DISCOVERED THAT THE FUEL TANK HAD DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE AND SPILLED ONE HALF GALLON OF FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED HIM THAT THE TANK WAS SEVERELY RUSTED AND THAT THE STRAPS WERE FRACTURED AND CORRODED AS WELL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:MOUNTING) BECAUSE THE FUEL TANK WAS ENTIRELY TOO CORRODED TO REPAIR. THE CONTACT EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE FUEL TANK STRAPS WAS FRACTURED AND THE SECOND STRAP WAS CORRODED. THE CONTACT REPAIRED THE STRAPS HIMSELF. THE VEHICLE WAS EVENTUALLY TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:MOUNTING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE FRAME BRACKET HAD ROTTED AND THE RECALL COULD NOT BE PERFORMED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAS A SLIGHT HESITATION, THERE WAS A NOISE WHEN THE GEAR WAS IN DRIVE, THE BRAKES FELT SPONGY, THE BRAKE LINE HAD TO BE REPLACED, AS WELL AS THE BRAKES, CALIPERS AND HOSES. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST SINCE IT WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,000.
1997 FORD F-150. CONSUMER WRITES IN CONCERNING SAFETY RECALL 11V385000 REGARDING FUEL TANKS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE FUEL TANK STRAPS WERE REPLACED ON SEPTEMBER 28, 2011. PRIOR TO THE REPLACEMENT, THE CONSUMER DID NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS FUELING HIS TANK. AFTER THE STRAPS WERE REPLACED, HE STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH FUEL LEAKING ON THE GROUND AFTER FILLING THE TANK. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER. AN INSPECTION REVEALED A CRACK ON THE FILLER NECK ON THE TANK. THE DEALER STATED THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE AS THEY ONLY REPLACED THE STRAPS. THE HOSE CLAMPS, FUEL TANK AND FILLER SPOUT WERE RUSTED. *JB
MY 1997 FORD F150 STARTED ON FIRE IN THE PARKING LOT OF MY EMPLOYER, FIFTEEN MINUTES AFTER I PARKED THE VEHICLE FROM A 5 MILE ROUND TRIP. THE FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD AND QUICKLY MOVED INTO THE CAB OF THE TRUCK BEFORE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT PUT OUT THE FIRE. WHEN INSPECTING THE ENGINE AREA WITH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, THE EXACT AREA OF WHERE THE FIRE STARTED COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. LUCKILY, NO ONE, INCLUDING MYSELF, WAS INJURED, AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN OUR HOME WHEN IT STARTED ON FIRE. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED, AND IF NECESSARY, SEEK RECOURSE, BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO PROCEED. *TT
FUEL TANK STRAP MOUNT RUSTED AND CAUSED THE STRAP TO COME THROUGH THE MOUNT. THE FUEL TANK WAS HANGING BY THE FRONT STRAP. TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOR THE RECALL AND WAS INFORMED ONLY THE STRAPS WERE RECALLED. TRUCK IS STILL AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP WAITING FOR THE RECALL TO BE DONE. THIS COULD RESULT IN THE SAME OUTCOME AS A STRAP BREAKING. *TT

ONE OF TWO STRAPS HOLDING THE FUEL TANK IN PLACE FAILED DUE TO CORROSION. NOTICED THE BROKEN STRAP HANGING BELOW THE VEHICLE AFTER A 40 MILE DRIVE. UNSURE OF WHEN THE STRAP LET GO. WHILE FUELING MY TRUCK I NOTICED THE SMELL OF GASOLINE, AFTER STEPPING BACK AND EXAMINING THE SITUATION, I FOUND THAT I WAS LEAKING GAS ONTO THE GROUND, I TOOK MY TRUCK TO A LOCAL MECHANIC THAT FOUND THE PROBLEM TO BE A RUSTED OUT FILLER TUBE, HAD THAT REPLACED AND THEN AGAIN WENT TO GET GAS, AGAIN, I HAD GAS LEAKING TO THE GROUND, THINKING IT MAY HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE WITH THE GAS TANK STRAPS, THAT I FOUND TO HAVE BEEN RECALLED, I HAD THOSE CHECKED, ONE STRAP IN FACT WAS GONE, BUT SINCE HAVING A SKID PLATE WAS TOLD NO FURTHER ACTION TO BE TAKEN AT THIS TIME, ALSO WHILE INSPECTING THE STRAPS I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD TWO LEAKS ON MY GAS TANK, ONE ON TOP AND ONE AT A PINCH-WELD, AT THAT TIME I ASKED THAT I CANT EVEN HAVE MY TANK REPLACED BECAUSE FORD HAS NO STRAPS AVAILABLE TO REPLACE THE NEW TANK WITH. I AM CURIOUS AS TO WHY THIS FUEL STORAGE SYSTEM IS HAVING SUCH A PROBLEM WITH THE COMPONENTS RUSTING AS BADLY AS THEY ARE? IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE MATERIALS USED FOR THE STRAPS ON THE GAS TANKS, CAN THERE BE ALSO A PROBLEM WITH THE MATERIALS TO THE REST OF THE FUEL SYSTEM?

YESTERDAY 7/15/2011 I PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT OF LOWES AND SMELLED GAS. I FOUND THE OUTSIDE OF THE GAS TANK WAS WET FROM THE TOP DOWN. I NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE METAL STRAPS THAT HELD THE TANK WAS BROKEN. IT WAS BROKEN AT THE POINT WHERE IT TURNS TO GO UNDER THE TANK. IT APPEARED TO HAVE RUSTED THROUGH. I PURCHASED LARGE PLASTIC WIRE TIES TO HOLD THE TANK IN PLACE SO I COULD GET HOME SAFELY. I STILL SMELLED GAS WHEN I ARRIVED AT HOME. *TT

1997 F-150 FORD PICK UP TRUCK HAS 2 FUEL TANK RETAINING STRAPS THAT HAVE CORRODED AND ONE HAS BROKEN. FUEL TANK HAS SUSTAINED CORROSION TO THE POINT WHERE IT LEAKS WHEN FILLED WITH FUEL. THIS IS A SERIOUS CONCERN BECAUSE IF THE SECOND STRAP SHOULD BRAKE WHILE THE TRUCK IS IN MOTION, THE TANK WOULD DROP TO THE ROADWAY AND THERE WOULD BE A CHANCE FOR SPARKING AND SUBSEQUENT FIRE! ... AS WELL AS ALL THE INCONVENIENCE OF GETTING IT REPAIRED. I WILL HAVE THE STRAPS REPLACED AND THE TANK CHECKED. THE STRAPS HOLDING TANK HAD EXCESSIVE RUST AND WHERE DEEMED UNSAFE AND ALSO REPLACED. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 84,000 MILES AND IS ALWAYS GARAGED. THIS IS VERY POOR QUALITY OF MATERIALS AND WARRANTS INVESTIGATING.
