CRACK DEVELOPING ON DOOR, AT REAR SIDE OF WINDOW, 2" ABOVE BOTTOM OF WINDOW. ALMOST EVERY F-150 OWNER WHO'S HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM HAS TAKEN A LOOK AT HIS/HER TRUCK AND FOUND SAME PROBLEM. FORD NOT MAKING ANY EFFORT TO REMEDY.
REAR OF LEFT SIDE FRAME CRACKED PIECE FELL OFF @ T/HITCH MOUNT
THE FIRST INCIDENT WITH AN OCCURENCE DATE OF 10/9/99 WAS WHEN I LOCATED A LUMP IN THE LEFT SIDE FRONT TIRE. WHILE DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD MOVE SIDE TO SIDE AS THE LUMP OR RAISED PORTION OF THE WHEEL WOULD COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE ROAD. AT HIGHER SPEEDS IT FELT LIKE THE TIRE WAS OUT OF BALANCE. I FINALLY LOCATED THE LUMP AND HAD THE TIRE REPLACED. I WAS INFORMED AT THE TIME THE BELTS HAD SEPERATED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED BUT ONLY AFTER THE PRICE HAD BEEN PRORATED ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY. THE SECOND INCIDENT WAS MUCH MORE SERIOUS. WHILE RETURNING HOME FROM THE NORTHERN PART OF THE STATE THE TREAD COMPLETELY SEPERATED ON THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE. I WAS TRAVELLING ON A HIGHWAY KNOWN AS THE CIMMARON TURNPIKE. THE SPEED LIMIT ON THE TURNPIKE IS 75 MPH. I NOTICED A VIBRATION AND THEN THE WHOLE TIRE LET GO. THE TREAD STRIPPRD OFF AND TORE UP THE WHOLE INSIDE OF THE FENDER AS IT CONTINUED TO GO AROUND. IT TORE OUT THE INNER FENDER WELL LINER . IT LOOKED EXACTLY LIKE THE TIRES BEING SHOWN ON THE NEWS REPORTS CONCERNING FIRESTONE. AFTER THESE TWO INCIDENTS THESE TIRES WERE REPLACED UNDER THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY BUT ONLY AFTER THEY HAD BEEN PRORATED. I REPLACED THE TWO REAR TIRES IN APRIL OF 2000 PRIOR TO TAKING A TRIP BECAUSE I THOUGT THEY MIGHT DO THE SAME THING.*AK( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 235/70SR16 )
I HAVE HAD THE REAR SLIDING WINDOW ASSEMBLY REPLACED BY THE DEALER 3 TIMES. I AM NOW EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM AGAIN FOR THE 4TH TIME. I'M HOPING NHTSA WILL INVESTIGATE THIS DEFECT WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND FIND A FINAL FIX.
THERE IS A CRACK DEVELOPING IN THE DOOR SHEET METAL AT THE LOWER REAR OF THE BELT MOLDING. COULD LEAD TO DISASSEMBLY OR FAILURE OF DOOR
PULLED OUT ONTO THE HIGHWAY, TRAVELLING 10MPH, AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE. TURNED VEHICLE AROUND, AND SAW SPARE TIRE LAYING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. CONTACTED A DEALER, DEALER INDICATED VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. ALSO, CABLE WHICH CONTROLS THE SPARE TIRE WILL LOOSEN, ALLOWING CABLE TO RUB OR BREAK, EVEN IF IT IS FULLY TIGHTENED DURING NORMAL OPERATION. *AK *ML

CRACK IN DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR BEYOND WINDOW MOLDING. *AK
CRUISE CONTROL WAS ENGAGED. WENT TO RELEASE IT BY TAPPING BRAKES & PUSHING BUTTON., CRUISE CONTROL REMAINED ENGAGED. VEHICLE WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN. HIT OFF BUTTON & VEHICLE INCREASED IN SPEED. HIT BRAKES HARD & NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM WHEELS. TURNED VEHICLE OFF & RESTARTED. ENGINE WOULD RACE & CC STILL BE ENGAGED. SHUT VEHICLE DOWN AGAIN & HEARD A POP. RESTARTED VEHICLE & TRIED TO REENGAGE CC & FAILED TO ENGAGE. TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALER & MECHANIC COULD NOT LOCATE PROBLEM. *AK
CRACKS APPEARING IN DOOR
AS SOON AS CONSUMER STARTS VEHICLE THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON. ENGINE IT IS RUNNING ROUGH AND DOWN SHIFTING. CONTACTED DEALER. *AK
WHILE DRIVING IN RAINY CONDITIONS AND TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT OR EVEN SLOWING DOWN VEHICLE WILL CHOKE A LITTLE THEN STALL. CONSUMER TOOK TO FORD. BUT DEALER CANNOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK.
AS STATED, THE DOOR IS CRACKING AT THE REAR OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW APPROXIMATELY 1/4 OF THE WAY UP FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDOW. I HAVE PERSONALLY SEEN NUMEROUS F150 VEHICLES WITH THE SAME TYPE OF CRACK. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE OF THE COMPROMISE OF THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE VEHICLE AT NORMAL SPEED AS WELL AS DURING A CRASH.
LEFT FRONT WHEEL LOCKS UP. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, VEHICLE STARTS SLIDING. DLR CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.*AK
DOOR SHEET METAL CRACKING AROUND WINDOW. UNKNOWN AFFECT TO INTEGRITY OF DOOR.
THERE IS A CRACK (1/2" IN LENGTH) THAT HAS DEVELOPED ON THE OUTER SHEETMETAL OF THE DRIVERS DOOR ON THE LOWER LEFT HAND CORNER NEAR THE L SHAPED WEATHERSTRIPPING. THIS CRACK IS GROWING WEEKLY AND STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY IN AN ACCIDENT IS MY MAJOR CONCERN AS THE CRACK CAN ACT AS A "CRUMPLE" JOINT. COSMETICALLY IT IS ALSO LIKELY TO BEGIN TO RUST IF NOT CORRECTED AS THE PAINT IS BEGINNING TO PEEL AROUND THE CRACK.
PE00 020; CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 45 MPH ON A PAVEMENT ROAD AND REAR DRIVER'S SIDE EXPLODED DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION.*AK
RE 1998 FORD F150 SUPER CAB DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOORS ARE DEVELOPING CRACKS FORD HAS REPAIRED THIS SAME PROBLEM 2 TIMES BEFORE NOW THAT THE CRACKES ARE APPERAING FOR THE 3RD TIME THEY SAY THAT MY TRUCK IS OUT OF WARENTEE BUT BUT OFFERED TO FIX IT FOR 400.00 DOLLARS I THINK THEY SHOULD HAVE FIXED IT CORRECTLY THE FIRST TIME I ALSO THINK THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL NOT JUST A BULLETIN FIRST REPAIR WAS ON 9/1/99 SECOND REPAIR WAS ON 2/1/2001 AND NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED AGAIN.
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE THE LUGS: NUTS THAT ARE SUPPOSE TO KEEP THE WHEEL ON SHEARED OFF THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL, CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL AND THE WHEEL ALSO CAME OFF. THE VEHICLE STOPPED SAFELY. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK

MY QUESTION IS ABOUT SAFETY FOR MYSELF AND ANY PERSON WITH ME IN REGARDS TO THESE TIRES, ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE NOT FAILED AS SOME HAVE HOLDING TIRE PRESSURE AND HAVING TO SWITCH THEM MORE THAN ANY OTHER TIRE I HAVE OWNED TO AVOID THUMPING AND UNEVEN TIRE WEAR . IT COMES BACK TO THIS , UNCERTAIN ABOUT SAFETY AND WHAT POSSIBLY COULD HAPPEN HAS PROMPTED THIS QUERY. THE LATEST REPORT FROM NHTSA IS TO REPLACE THEM AND WAIT FOR A DECISION , I DON'T HAVE THE MONEYTO DO THIS , YOUR ANSWER WILL BE APPRECIATED . DEALER SAYS SERPENTINE BELT CAN BE EXPECTED TO REQUIRE FREQUENT REPLACEMENT (ANNUAL) ON VEHICLE TO CORRECT SQUEALING NOISE.
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AT A IMPACT OF 25 MPH. SEAT BELT FAILED TO STAY LATCHED, AND AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. VEHICLE AT DEALER SHOP FOR INSPECTION. CAN NHTSA HELP OR PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION . *AK
PE-00-020; ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON A FORD, F150, 1998, DOT NUMBER W208, AND TIRE SIZE P23570R16. TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS WITH TIRES. WHEN DRIVING 65 MPH RIGHT REAR TIRE TREAD SEPARATED FROM SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE, TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH SAME TYPE OF TIRE. CONSUMER NOTED ALL FOUR TIRES HAD DEVELOPED CRACKS AND STRESS ALONG SIDEWALL AREAS OF TIRES. WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH AND APPLYING THE BRAKES ON WET PAVEMENT, VEHICLE DIDN'T STOP AND WENT STRAIGHT THROUGH A RED LIGHT, AND THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL LOCKED UP WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES REAL HARD WHILE TRYING TO STOP. *AK

ONGOING PROBLEM WITH ABS BRAKES CAUSES REAR WHEELS TO LOCK UP WHEN APPLYING BRAKES ON WET/DAMP ROAD. IT ALSO CAUSES EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. ALSO, A PROBLEM WITH COURTESY LIGHTS, AND RUNNING TAIL LIGHTS MOMENTARILY REMAIN ON FROM 2 MINUTES UP TO 2 HOURS BEFORE TURNING OFF, EVEN AFTER VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. DEALER/MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS ON THIS MATTER. *AK
IT WAS ABOUT 8:00 AM AND I HAD DRIVEN LESS THAN 10 MILES ON A PAVED 2-LANE ROAD. THE TIRE DIDN'T SEEM TO BLOW OUT, IT JUST DISENTIGRATED. I DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING IN THA BACK OF THE TRUCK AND THE TIRES WERE INFLATED AT 35PSI. I HAVEN'T TRUSTED THEM SINCE. *AK (TIRESIZE: 235/70R16)

LEAF SPRINGS BECAME MISALIGNED WITHOUT ANY HEAVY DUTY TOWING OR OFF ROADING. RECALL SAID THEY COULD FAIL UNDER HEAVY WORK. BEFORE RECALL CLIP WAS INSTALLED, THE SPRINGS BECAME MISALIGNED. TOOK TO DEALER, INSTALLED CLIP AND SAID FOUND NO PROBLEM WITH SPRINGS. LEFT THEM IN MISALIGNED POSITION. *AK
DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR AND PASSAGER'S SIDE DOORS HAVE CRACKS WITHIN THE FRAME AND PANEL. BOTH DOOR'S ARE RUSTING AT THE BOTTOM WHEN DRIVING AT 25 MPH ON WET PAVEMENT. ALSO, WHEN APPLYING BRAKES REAR BRAKE'S WILL LOCK UP. *AK
IN WET AND COLD CONDITIONS VEHICLE STALLS OUT AND DIES WITH NO WARNING. JUST BEFORE THE VEHICLE STALLS, ALTERNATOR LIGHT COMES ON. TO RESTART VEHICLE, DRIVER HAS TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF . THE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED AND THEY HAVE NOTIFIED THE MANFACTURER. *AK
I WAS INVOLVED IN A SINGLE CAR ACCIDENT ON SUNDAY ,9 MAY 1999 WHILE TRYING TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. I IMPACTED A TELEPHONE POLE AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES AN HOUR AND NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED. I WANTED TO KNOW IF THIS IS NORMAL OR A VALID COMPLAINT. CONSUMER STATES THAT THERE IS EXCESSIVE WEAR OF FRONT BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS. THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED ON FOUR OCCASIONS AND THE PADS HAVE BEEN REPLACED ON FIVE OCCASIONS AND THE PROBLEM IS REOCCURRING. THE DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *MJ

ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK TO FLOOR AND WOULD NOT RELEASE WHILE ENTERING FREEWAY @ 40MPH. PUT BOTH FEET ON BRAKE PEDAL @ 70MPH BEFORE PEDAL RELEASED AND WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL. CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ENGAGED AT TIME OF INCIDENT. *AK
CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP MORE THAN THREE TIMES FOR TRANSMISSION, AND DEALER SAID THE PROBLEM WERE THE BRAKES. THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN TAKEN OUT, AND THE BRAKES WERE REPAIRED THREE TIMES. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH THE CABLE BROKE, CAUSING THE EMERGENCY SPARE TIRE TO POP OFF, AND THE CONSUMER LOST THE SPARE TIRE. *AK
THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN FORWARD. CONSUMER HAD HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKES, AND THE VEHICLE KEPT ON ACCELERATING. *AK
TRUCK ANTI LOCK BRAKES LOCK UP WHEN EVER IT RAINS OR GETS WET. DEALER ATTEMPTED TO FIX 4 TIMES, STILL LOCK UP.
LOOSE NUT ON DRIERS SIDE WIPER ARM CAUSED WIPERS TO FAIL DURING HEAVY RAIN.
TRUCK WOULD STALL. CONSUMER LET TRUCK SIT FOR HALF AND HOUR, THEN STARTED IT AGAIN AND IT WILL STALL AGAIN. *AK
AT SLOW SPEED WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED, BRAKES DON'T WORK. ABS SENSOR HAS BEEN REPLACED BY DEALER 5 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE, I NOTICED AN ABANDONED VEHICLE IN THE ROAD AHEAD OF ME. I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN AND PULL BEHIND THE VEHICLE TO MY RIGHT TO AVOID A COLLISION. WHEN MY TRUCK DID NOT NOTICEABLY BEGIN TO SLOW, I ATTEMPTED TO BRING MY TRUCK TO A COMPLETE STOP. I INCREASED PRESSURE ON TH BRAKE PEDAL. THE TRUCK BEGAN VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AND SLOWLY BEGAN TO DECREASE SPEED. AFTER APPROX 100 YDS I FELT THE BRAKES BEGAN TO GRAB AND WAS PULLED FORWARD AGAINST THE SEAT BELT. I HAD ALREADY TRAVELED AN EXCESSIVE DISTANCE, AND ONCE THE BRAKES BEGAN TO WORK THERE WAS NTO ENOUGH SPACE LEFT TO BRING MY VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS RESULTED IN MY TRUCK RAMMING INTO THE ABONDED VEHICLE AT 5-15 MPH. *AK
WHILE BACKING UP OUT OF DRIVEWAY, RIGHT TORSION BAR BROKE IN HALF, CAUSING THE RIGHT FRONT END TO DROP DOWN ABOUT ONE FOOT.DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. TRUCK IS BEING REPAIRED. *AK
WHEN DRIVING BOUT 30-35 MPH ON THE BEACH, DRIVER HIT A LOG WHICH BENT THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK WAS TOTALLED. THE DRIVERS' SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY UNITIL AFTER THE DRIVER HIT HIS FACE ON THE STEERING WHEEL, CAUSING MINOR INJUIRIES. *AK
TRUCK WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH TRAVELING AT 60 MPH, AND THERE WAS NO DEPLOYMENT OF THE DRIVER'S OR PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAGS. THE CRASH INVOLVED THE FRONT LEFT SIDE OF THE TRUCK. DAMAGES TOTALLED $7,000.00. TRUCK HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED ABOUT THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
