HAD JUST TAKEN FOOT OFF ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHEN IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED UP TO 80MPH. HAD STOOD ON BRAKES TO SLOW VEHICLE, BUT ENGINE HAD REVVED UP AS HIGH AS IT COULD GO. MOVED VEHICLE TO SIDE OF ROAD & SLAMMED INTO NEUTRAL TO STOP. SHIFTED INTO PARK, TURNED VEHICLE OFF. LATER RESTARTED VEHICLE & IT STARTED RACING. *AK *ML
THIS IS MY SECOND TRUCK (FRIST ONE WAS 1997 W/TWO CRACKED DOORS WHICH DEALER BOUGHT BACK) WITH THIS PROBLEM. THE SHEET METAL ON DOORS CRACK AT THE AT THE WINDOW TRIM DO TO STRESS CREATED WHEN RAISING AND LOWERING WINDOW. FORD WON'T ADMIT PROBLEM
REAR WINDOW HAS BEEN LEAKING EVER SINCE CONSUMER OWNED VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP INFORMED CONSUMER THAT SINCE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF A WARRANTY PERIOD THEY COULD NOT ASSIST HIM FINANCIALLY. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS. *AK
WHEN DOORS ARE CLOSED THE DOME LIGHT, DOOR AJAR LIGHT, AND EXTERIOR LIGHT ABOVE TRUCK BED REMAIN ON. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN RECURRING FOR THE LAST 3-4 YEARS. I HAVE ASKED DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOPS CONCERNING THE PROBLEM AND GET MANY REPLIES FROM BAD DOOR SWITCH, BAD RELAY SWITCH TO IT'S A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH 1998 FORD F-150'S AND YOU HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT. THE LIGHTS CAN STAY ON FOR 1 MINUTE OR 30 MINUTES, OCCASIONALLY I HAVE TO REMOVE THE FUSE. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO OCCUR MOST FREQUENTLY WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE GOES FROM COLD TO WARMER WEATHER. I HAVE DISCUSSED THE PROBLEM WITH OTHER OWNERS AND THEY ALL SEEM TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS AT NIGHT BECAUSE OF THE INTERIOR LIGHT REMAINING ON. I AM ALSO CONCERNED WITH WEAR ON THE BATTERY. I FEEL THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND MANUFACTURER SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THE REPAIR. *JB

I WAS LUCKY IT WAS PARKED. THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS ON THE FREEWAY.IHAVE HEARD THAT THIS HAS HAPPEND TO OTHER PEOPLE.I FEEL THAT THIS TRUCK HAS VERY UNSAFE SPRINGS AND TORSION BARS THAT COULD BREAK AT ANY TIME.WHICH COULD CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL.
WIRE HARNESS IN STEERING COLUMN FAILING, DUE TO THIS THE TURN SIGNALS AND BRAKE LIGHTS FAIL, FORD HAS REPLACED THE HARNESS MANY TIMES, BUT THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. *SLC
WHEN VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE SIDE OF A SCHOOL BUS WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 50 MPH, THERE WAS NO DEPLOYMENT OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE OR PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAGS. TRUCK WAS TOTALLED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK

DRIVER TRAVELING AT 45 MPH IN 45 MPH ZONE, HEARD RIGHT REAR WINDOW IMPLODE COMPLETELY INTO THE VEHICLE, SENDING SMALL FRAGMENTS OF GLASS CLEAR ACROSS THE ENTIRE WIDTH OF THE VEHICLE . IF SOMEONE(SUCH AS OUR CHILDREN ) HAD BEEN SEATED THERE AT THE TIME,SERIOUS INJURIES WOULD HAVE RESULTED. .

DRIVING ALONG AT 25 MPH THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE TORSION BAR BROKE. IT DIDN'T CAUSE ANY SSUDDEN DIP OR IMPACT. I HAVE FOUND OUT SINCE THAT THERE HAS BEEN THREE OTHER 1998 FORD F150 TRUCKS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. ONE TRUCK WAS SERVICED AT PAWLING FORD AND THE OTHER TWO AT PLEASANT VALLY FORD, PLEASANT VALLY, NY. YOU BEGIN TO WONDER IF THIS BE LOOKED AT CLOSER AND POSSIBLY A RECALL ON THESE TRUCKS(ALL THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL AND YEAR). MY FAMILY & I ARE QUITE CONCERNED ABOUT THE REPLACEMENT PART, AND SHOULD THE OTHER SIDE BE REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THAT IF I HAD BEEN GOING AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THIS COULD HAVE LED TO A SERIOUS SPIN AND EVENTUALLY AN ACCIDENT. ALSO, THIS HAPPENED IN WATERTOWN (300 MILES AWAY) WHERE I WAS ATTENDING MY UNCLES' FUNERAL. THE TRUCK IS STILL THERE AWATING THE PART. THE TRUCK IS AT WATERTOWN FORD, WATERTOWN, NY (315-782-7200). I'VE BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALER THIS SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED, ESPECIALLY TO A TRUCK THIS NEW. THE FORD DEALER IN WATERTOWN HAS BEEN VERY COOPERATIVE. *AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE CYLINDER HEAD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
CONSUMER PARKED VEHICLE AND NOTICED FRONT END WAS DOWN . BACKED TRUCK UP. TOOK IT TO REPAIR SHOP, AND WAS TOLD NOT TO DRIVE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO FORD DEALERSHIP. DEALER SAID PROBLEM WAS COMMON, AND THEY WOULD REPLACE THE TORSION BAR. BUT PART WAS ON BACK ORDER. ONCE THE PART WAS RECEIVED, IT WAS REPLACED ON DRIVER'S SIDE. CONSUMER REQUESTED THAT PASSENGER'S SIDE TORSION BAR SHOULD ALSO BE REPLACED. *AK
DEALER IS REPORTING THAT BROKEN TORSION BARS ON NEW FORDS (F-150 AND SIMILAR SUV'S) IS A MAJOR PROBLEM. IF THEY SNAP AT HIGH SPEED A SERIOUS LOSS OF CONTROL CAN RESULT.
PURCHASED F150 IN JUNE 1998. 8/98 HAD MINIOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEM - FAN WOULD NOT SHUT OFF WHEN KEY TURNED OFF. IN 9/98 LOST SPEEDOMETER, TACHOMETER, COULD HEAR RELAYS CLICKING. 10/98 REPLACED MAIN FUSE BOX DUE TO ARCHING BETWEEN TERNMINALS. 1/99 LOST SPEEDOMETER/TACHOMETER/4 WHEEL DRIVE SWITCH, COULD HEAR RELAYS IN DASH AGAIN. 1/99 REPLACED MAIN SWITCH BOX AGAIN DUE TO ARCHING BETWEEN TERNMINALS. 3/99 OCASSIONAL PROBLEM WITH WINDSHIELD WASHER SWITCH. THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM, IF IT WAS RESOLVED, ETC, BUT INDICATED THE NORMAL SUPPLY CHANNEL WAS OUT OF THE PART. *AK

FRONT TORSION BAR BROKE, CAUSING THE FRONT CAB ON DRIVER SIDE TO FALL WHICH COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENT. PART IS ON BACK ORDER. *AK
A FRIEND WHO IS IN THE TIRE BUSINESS CALLED ME OUT TO LOOK AT MY TIRES ON THAT MORNING. HE SHOWED ME HOW THE TIRE WALL WAS SHREDDING AND THAT WAS NOT NORMAL AND URGED ME TO BRING MY TRUCK TO THE SHOP IMMEDIATELY, SO I DID. AT THAT TIME, I DID NOT REALIZE THAT IT COULD BE A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT, EVEN THOUGH MY FRIEND INSISTED THAT TIRES SHOULD NOT TEAR LIKE THAT. HAVING VIEWED THE RECENT NEWS RELEASES ABOUT THIS HAPPENING, I DECIDED TO LOG MY COMPLAINT. THE SALESPERSON AT FIRESTONE TOLD ME THAT THE REPAIR COULD NOT BE MADE, SO I WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE A NEW TIRE, WHICH I DID. SINCE THEN, I HAVE INCURRED ANOTHER FLAT TIRE. THIS TIME IT WAS A NAIL, HOWEVER WHEN THE TIRE WAS COMPLETELY DEFLATED, THERE WERE SOME THREADS THAT WERE PARTIALLY SHREDDED, HOWEVER I WAS ADVISED BY FIRESTONE THAT THE SHREDDING WAS NOT THE CAUSE OF THE TIRE FLAT AND WAS ASSURED THAT IT WAS NORMAL TO HAVE SOME SEPARATION. NOW I AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY, BUT CAN NOT AFFORD TO PURCHASE A NEW SET OF TIRES.*AK( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P23570R16 )

WHEN COMING TO STOP AND APPLYING BRAKES, THE VEHICLE REVVED UP TO/ OVER 3000 RPM, THEN LUNGED FOWARD UNEXPECTEDLY, CAUSING A REAR END ACCIDENT. *AK
CONSUMER PUT VEHICLE IN REVERSE AND HEARD A NOISE. VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL FORWARD INTO TRAFFIC, CONSUMER LEARNED THAT THE REAR DRIVESHAFT BROKE IN APRIL 98. ALSO, IN JAN. 99, WHILE CONSUMER SLOWED DOWN TO MAKE A TURN, THE LEFT FRONT TORSION BAR BROKE, THE FRAME DROPPED, DAMAGING THE UPPER CONTROL. CONSUMER WILL PROVIDE VIN# WHEN RECEIVED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH ON WET PAVEMENT WAS HIT ON THE LEFT SIDE BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. *AK
TIRE LOOSES PRESSURE RAPIDLY AFTER A FEW WEEKS OF SLOW AIR LOSS. REPAIR FACILITY REMOVED/INSPECTED TIRE AND FOUND NO HOLES BUT HAS COMMENTED THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM ASSOCIATED WITH FIRESTONE TIRES. I AM REPLACING 4 TIRES DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P235/70R16 )
ON-GOING/INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WITH ABS BRAKES LOCKING UP DURING 5 MPH OR MORE; CONDITION WAS REPORTED TO MANUFACTURER. BUT NOTHING CAN BE DONE AT THIS TIME. SEEKING HELP FROM NHTSA IN THIS MATTER. *AK
ACCELERATOR PEDAL DOES NOT DISENGAGE WHEN TURNING OFF CRUISE CONTROL. DEALER IS AWARE OF PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED. *AK
DRIVERS DOOR SHEET METAL HAS 3/4" HORIZONTAL CRACK EVEN WITH WINDOW SILL, LOOKS LIKE TOP OF DOOR COULD BREAK OFF IN A CRASH. *AK

THE CONSUMER HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. WHEN APPLIED THE BRAKES, FOOT WENT TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
REAR ABS BRAKES LOCKED UP. *YC
I WAS DRIVING ON AN INTERCHANGE RAMP AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH. IT WAS TWO LANES AND A SEMI STARTED TO MOVE OVER INTO MY LANE. I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR TO KICK IT INTO OVERDRIVE TO GET PAST THE TRUCK. ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE ACCELERATOR WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND STUCK THERE. THE ENGINE STARTED REVVING AT A HIGH RPM.. I PUT THE TRUCK INTO NEUTRAL AND KEPT COASTING AS THERE WAS NO PLACE TO PULL OFF. THE ENGINE WAS REVVING AT 5000 RPM. AFTER ABOUT 15 SECONDS, THE ACCELERATOR RETURNED TO NORMAL AND THE ENGINE RPM'S RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE WAY IT HAPPENED WAS JUST AS IF THE "RESUME" BUTTON ON THE CRUISE CONTROL HAD BEEN PRESSED TO RESUME SPEED AFTER YOU SLOW DOWN....THE ACCELERATOR DEPRESSES ON ITS OWN AND THE TRUCK GETS BACK UP TO THE SET SPEED. HOWEVER...THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS OFF SINCE I DISTICNTLY REMEMBER TURNING IF OFF PRIOR TO GETTING INTO INDIANAPOLIS. I REFERENCED YOUR SITE AND FOUND ACTION NUMBER EA98018 TO LOOK VERY SIMILAR TO THIS.
SPARK KNOCK I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH IT SINCE IT HAD 2000 MILES ON IT. I AM WORRIED THE THING WILL LOCK UP OR CATCH FIRE OR BLOW UP. IT HAS 25,000 MILES ON IT AND THEY STILL HAVE NOT FIXED IT. THEY TELL ME IF I WAS IN CANADA THEY HAVE A BULLETIN ON THOSE MODELS FOR THE VERY SAME THING WHY NOT ON THE AMERICAN MODELS?
ON-GOING PROBLEM WITH RUNNING BOARD GETS SLIPPERY WHEN WET / IN VERY COLD WEATHER. DEALER NOTIFIED, AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE. ASKING NHTSA TO LOOK INTO THIS MATTER, COULD CAUSE BODILY HARM. *AK *YC
THE LOCATION OF THE SPARE TIRE WHICH IS UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE MOUNTED AGAINST A STEEL FRAME, RUBS AGAINST TIRE WALL DUE TO THE VIBRATION OF THE VEHICLE WHEN DRIVING, THIS MAY CAUSE A TIRE BLOW OUT IF SPARE TIRE IS USED. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TIRE MANUFACTURER BUT IS A TRUCK PROBLEM. FORD NEEDS TO REPLACE THESE TIRES AND INSTALL RUBBER CUSHING ON THE STEEL FRAME TO PREVENT THIS PROBLEM. *YH
TRANSMISSION SLIPS BETWEEN SECOND AND THIRD GEAR AT 40-43 MPH. DEALER CONTACTED, AND STATED PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND CANNOT REMEDY PROBLEM. PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
TRANSMISSION OPERATES ERRATICALLY; WHENEVER VEHICLE REACHES HIGH GEAR, TRANSMISSION WOULD FAIL TO DOWNSHIFT. ALSO, WHENEVER CONSUMER TRIES TO SLOW DOWN, VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP UNLESS CONSUMER SLAMS HARD ON BRAKES. THIS CONDITION OCCURS CONSISTENTLY WITHIN THE FIRST 10 TO 15 MILES OF DRIVING. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THREE DIFFERENT DEALERS, AND NO CORRECTION WAS MADE. COULD NHTSA HELP IN ANY WAY? THANK YOU. *AK

DEAL HAS ATTEMPTED TO FIX BOTH BRAKES AND THE DOOR CRACKS: BRAKES STILL DO NOT WORK AND DOOR CRACKED AGAIN. DEALER NOW WILL NOT FIX THEM AGAIN. *AK
ACCELERATOR PEDAL STICKS INTERMITTENTLY. CONSUMER HAS TO KICK PEDAL TO GET IT TO RELEASE. NOT TAKEN TO DEALER YET. *AK
THE REAR BRAKING SYSTEM IS INOPERABLE WHICH REDUCED THE BRAKING ABILITY AND CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. DEALER SAID IT CAME FROM THE FACTORY WITH THAT PROBLEM, AND THERE IS NO SOLUTION. CAUSE UNKNOWN. PLEASE PROVIDE DETAILS. *AK
