WHILE BRAKING AT ANY SPEED VIBRATION OCCURRED IN VEHICLE, MORE NOTICEABLE WHEN THERE WAS A LOAD IN TRUCK. DEALERSHIP EXAMINED VEHICLE OVER 10 TIMES AND FOUND THAT A DUST/POWDER WAS ACCUMULATING INSIDE BRAKE DRUM. DEALERSHIP INFORMED CONSUMER THERE WAS NO EFFECTIVE REMEDY FOR THIS PROBLEM. *AK CONSUMER STATES ON FOUR OCCASIONS THE VIBRATIONS CAUSED THE REAR WHEELS TO LOCK AND THEN THE PEDAL WENT SOFT WITH NO BRAKING POWER. *SLC
PICKUP WAS BACKED UP IN FRONT OF MY GARAGE, PASSERGER DOOR OPEN, MOTOR RUNNING AND SHIFT INDICATOR IN PARK POSITION. I WAS LOADING ITEMS IN PICKUP BED WHEN SUDDENLY THE PICKUP STARTED COMING AT ME IN REVERSE. THE OPEN PICKUP DOOR HIT THE GARAGE AND WRAPPED AROUND AGAINST THE FRONT FENDER AS THE PICKUP CAME INTO THE GARAGE. THE DOOR WEDGED BETWEEN THE FENDER AND THE GARAGE DOOR FRAME STOPPING THE PICKUP. OTHERWISE, I MIGHT HAVE BEEN CRUSHED BETWEEN THE PICKUP AND GARAGE WALL. I CONTACTED MY INSURANCE AGENCY AND HAD MY LOCAL FORD DEALER, DOENGES-BARTLESVILLE, REPAIR THE DAMAGE AT A COST OF $2,436. MY DEDUCTIBLE WAS $500. MY LOCAL FORD DEALER SUGGESTED I CONTACT FORD MOTOR COMPANY ABOUT THE PROBLEM. I DID AND RECEIVED NO HELP FROM THEM ON THE PROBLEM. IN LOOKING AT YOUR FILES, I FIND THAT MINE IS NOT THE ONLY 1999 FORD PICKUP THAT THIS HAS HAPPEND TO. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM WITH FORDS. SINCE FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS NOT CONCERNED WITH MY PROBLEM, THE BEST THING I CAN DO IN THE FUTURE IS BUY NO MORE FORD VEHICLES.*AK
PICKUP JUMPED OUT OF PARK INTO REVERSE GOING BACKWARDS INTO GARAGE DOING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. DEALER SUGGESTED I CONTACT FORD WHICH I DID. THEY REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING. *AK
METAL PART OF DRIVER'S DOOR IS CRACKING.*AK REPAIRED BY THE DEALER BUT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE OF VEHICLE. *YH

WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY CONSUMER WAS SMELLING OIL COMING INSIDE OF VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS LEAKING OIL FROM GASKET. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK

THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE MADE ALOT OF NOISE. A TSB WAS ISSUED FOR SIMILAR VEHCILE RELATED TO DIFFERENTIAL CHATTER. *AK
VARIOUS SWITCHES ARE FAILING, PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW SWITCH, ELECTRIC MIRROR ADJUST SWITCH, FAN SWITCH FOR HEATER/AC AND THE MOST ANNOYING IS THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH WHICH CAUSES THE WIPERS TO COME ONE WHEN EVER THEY FEEL LIKE IT. I ALSO PERSONALLY KNOW OF TWO OTHER FORD F150 OWNERS SUFFERING FROM SIMILAR PROBLEMS. I THINK ITS TIME THAT FORD STOPS USING INFERIOR PARTS BEFORE WE ALL START BUYING DODGE. *NM
LOWER ARM WHERE IT IS ATTACHED TO TRUCK FRAME BECAME LOOSE. WHILE DRIVING IT MAKES ALIGNMENT CHANGES. DRIVER THINKS HE IS GOING STRAIGHT, BUT IS GOING BACK AND FORTH. *AK THE MANUFACTURER SUGGESTED LOCK WASHERS AS A TEMPORARY FIX, BUT THE A- ARM HAS NOW MOVED AGAIN CHANGING THE WHEEL ALIGNMENT. *YH
I COLLIDED WITH A SMALLER VEHICLE(CHEVROLET BERETTA) AT A LOW SPEED. MY WHEEL FELL OFF AND I RAN OVER IT. THE REPORTING POLICE OFFICER SHARED MY DISBELIEF THAT THIS OCCURRED WITH MINIMAL DAMAGE FROM THE COLLISION TO THE OTHER VEHICLE. I THINK THAT THE WHEEL MAY HAVE BROKEN LOOSE JUST PRIOR TO THE ACTUAL COLLISION. *AK
MY HUSBAND, JOE, WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON 12/18/00. ACCORDING TO MY HUSBAND EVERYTHING HAPPENED SO QUICKLY BUT HE CLAIMS THE WHEEL (DRIVER SIDE) CAME OFF PRIOR TO HITTING THE OTHER VEHICLE. THE OTHER VEHICLE SUSTAINED MINIMAL DAMAGE. THE WHEEL CAME OFF. THE WHEEL CAME OFF AT THE SHAFT. NOTHING APPEARS BROKEN AND THE THREADS ARE NOT DAMAGED (SHAFT). THE WHEEL IS STILL INFLATED, LUG NUTS AND BRAKE ASSEMBLY STILL ATTACHED.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING AT 45 MPH CONSUMER BROADSIDED ANOTHER VEHICLE, A JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, BUT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. OTHER AFFECTED VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS DID DEPLOY. 2 PEOPLE IN PRIMARY VEHICLE WERE WEARING SEATBELTS, MINOR INJURIES OCCURRED. ROADS WERE WET AND VEHICLE HAD NO TRACTION WHILE TRYING TO STOP. *AK *SLC
WHILE DRIVING TRANSMISSION WILL QUIT WORKING, LOSING POWER. GEAR SHIFT WILL LOCK UP WHEN CONSUMER PULLS OFF. THEN, SHIFT GEAR WILL START WORKING AGAIN.*AK

WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK POSITION BY THE SHIFT INDICATOR, VEHICLE ACCELERATED IN REVERSE, RESULTING IN INJURIES. DEALER HAS INSPECTED, AND WILL REPAIR VEHICLE.*AK
CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THROTTLE WAS STICKING, TOOK TO DEALER, WHO ORDERED PARTS FOR IT. WHEN PARTS ARRIVED, THEY DID NOT FIX VEHICLE. DEALER CALLED FORD TECHNICAL HOTLINE. DEALER WAS TOLD NOT TO RELEASE VEHICLE , THAT IT WAS A DESIGN ERROR, AND TO GIVE CONSUMER A LOANER VEHICLE. FORD GAVE CONSUMER NO INDICATION WHEN HE WOULD GET HIS VEHICLE BACK. *AK

WINDSHIELD WIPERS WORK INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTATCED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
SUDEN JUMP IN IDLE SPEED(TO3000)RPM.DANGEROUS TO HOLD VEHICLE STOPPED IN SNOW. TRANSMISSION DOES NOT DOWNSHIFT TO LOW GEAR TILL RMP DROPS BELOW 1000. DANGEROUS TO STOP VEHICLE. FOOT MUST BE APPLIED FIRMLY ON BRAKE PEDAL AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS FOR THE DURATION OF THE STOP FOR FEAR OF VEHICLE LURCHING FORWARD AND HITTING CAR IN FRONT. DEALER SAID HE FIXED. PROBLEM STILL PRESENT. VERY OBJECTIONABLE ODOR IN VEHICLE( LIKE BURNING OFF OLD OIL DEPOSITS ON METAL) PRESENT AT TIMES. UNBEARABLE TO AN ASTHMATIC PERSON. VEHICLE OTHERWISE IN SOUND SHAPE.*AK
CONSUMER WAS REMOVING SPARE TIRE FROM SPARE CARRIER & FOUND TIRE WAS MELTED IN 8 PLACES. TIRE IS HEATED UP BY TIRE CARRIER BARS. MANUFATCURER WILL HAVE SOMEONE TO CONTACT CONSUMER ON 11-28-00. *AK

THE PASSENGER SIDE MIRRORS ARE DELAMINATING, THE DEALER POINTED OUT THAT THEY SHOULD BE REPLACED, BUT THE MANUFACTURER DECLINED TO PAY FOR REPLACEMENT COST DUE TO VEHICLE BEING OVER 36000 MILES. *YH
WINDSHIELD WIPERS COME ON AN OFF RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING.*AK
MOTOR FAILED AFTER 7 COMPLIANTS STARTING WHEN NEW. MANUFACTURER HAS ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE WITH A REBUILT MOTOR USING USED COMPONENTS.F. *AK
I NOTICED A CRACK IN THE SHEET METAL ON THE BODY OF MY TRUCK. THE CRACK IS LOCATED ON THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR JUST ABOVE THE ADDITIONAL RUBBER MOLDING IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER OF THE WINDOW. THIS MAKES ME WONDER HOW THE DOOR WOULD HOLD UP IF I GOT HIT IN THE DOOR.
BRAKES HAD BEEN VIBRATING, AND DEALER REPAIRED THEM UNDER WARRANTY FIRST TIME, SECOND TIME WAS UNDER PROTEST. PRESENTLY, BRAKES ARE DOING IT AGAIN, AND FORD WILL NOT HELP WITH PROBLEM. *AK CONSUMER STATES IT HAS ONLY BEEN 19000 MILES AFTER BEING FIXED UNDER WARRANTY AND THE BRAKE PROBLEM HAS COME BACK AGAIN. *SLC

THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER WAS CHANGED AT 41,306 MILES. SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT DEALERSHIP NOW REPORTS THAT THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REBUILT OR REPLACED. FORD INITIALLY DECLINED TO HELP WITH THE REPAIR COST, AND IT IS NOW BEING RECONSIDERED. HAS THIS TRANSMISSION TYPE BEEN ONE THAT HAS CRONIC PROBLEMS?

TRUCK CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE, CAUSING 2 PASSENGERS TO BE TAKEN BY AMBULANCE - NO OTHER INFORMATION AS TO WHAT INJURIES THEY RECEIVED. DEALERSHIP HAD PREVIOUSLY EXAMINED VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES FOR COMPLAINTS ABOUT BRAKE SYSTEM. DEALERSHIP HAD REPLACED BRAKE PADS/ ROTORS, AND BRAKE FLUIDS. WAS TURNING A CORNER AT 15MPH WHEN RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEW. MAINTAINED CONTROL OF CARAVAN. CHECKED TIRES & ALL HAD CRACKS DOWN THE CENTER OF TREAD, AND WAS ALSO PITTED DOWN TO THE TREAD PATTERN. TIRES WERE INSPECTED PRIOR TO THE BLOWOUT. CONTACTED ROAD SIDE SERVICE. FIRESTONE, WILDERNESS HT, P235/70R16 WITH 24,000 MILES.*AK

FORD PICKUP F150 TRUCK DOORS CRACKED AT WINDOWS ON BOTH SIDES. REPAIRED THROUGH FORD. THE DOORS CRACKED AGAIN WITHIN MONTH OF REPAIR. NOT FIXED ALTHOUGH STILL UNDER WARRANTY. FORD ISSUED BULLETIN AFTER REPAIRED, BUT WE WERE NOT INFORMED. BULLETIN TIME FRAME HAS EXPIRED. FORD REFUSES TO FIX. ALSO, FRAME UNDER BED WHERE CLASS 3 HITCH WAS INSTALLED PRIOR TO PURCHASE OF VEHICLE (NEW), BROKE. HAVE PICTURES OF SAME. FORD REFUSED TO FIX OR REPLACE FRAME. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED WHILE TOWING ON INTERSTATE, ALL COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED WHEN HITCH AND TRAILER BOUNCED OFF THE ROAD BED AND DUG INTO THE ROAD WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. FORD REFUSES TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. HAD REPAIRS DONE BY WELDING SHOP. BODY SHOP AND WELDING SHOP BOTH STATE FRAME IS SUBSTANDARD (TOO THIN FOR WEIGHT THAT FORD STATES THIS TRUCK CAN SAFELY TOW). TONGUE WEIGHT LESS THEN 250#...SEATS REPAIRED 2 TIMES WITHIN WARRANTY PERIOD (ONCE @ APPROXIMATELY 23000, 2ND @ APPROXIMATELY 48000 MILES). FORD STATES THAT THIS IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ON VEHICLE. PREVIOUS TRUCK (1987 FORD F150 6 CYL 4X4) HAD 150000+ MILEAGE WITH NO SEAT FAILURE. *JB
ORANGE OVERDRIVE BUTTON FLASHING WHILE DRIVING AT 65MPH. NO SAFETY DEFECT LISTED IN SUMMARY. *AK
BURNS UP TO 1 1/2 BETWEEN OIL CHANGES AND CAN SMELL OIL BURNING 10 DAYS AFTER OIL CHANGE BUT CAN'T SMELL IT ALL THE TIME. CAN'T SEE ANY OIL LEAK. *AK
THIS VEHICLE HAS DEVELOPED A VISIBLE STRESS FRACTURE OF THE DOOR SHEETMETAL STARTING UNDER THE AFT WEATHER STRIP FOR THE WINDOW AND EXTENDING AFT ALONG THE DOOR. THIS IS THE FIRST NOTICE OF THIS PROBLEM WHICH SEEMS TO BE COMMON TO THIS MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE.
DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HAS A CRACK IN NEAR THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER OF DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW. THE CRACK APPEARS TO BE STRUCTURAL IN NATURE. IT IS APPROXIMATELY 1.5" IN LENGTH FROM THE INTERIOR EDGE OF THE SHEET METAL EXTENDING OUT TO BEYOND THE END OF THE WINDOW MOLDING. *AK
REMOVED NEW FULL-SIZE SPARE FOR FIRST TIME SINCE VEHICLE'S MANUFACTURE TO REPLACE BLOWOUT. DISCOVERED THAT THE METAL CHANNEL STEEL BARS USED TO HOLD THE SPARE UP UNDER THE P/U BED HAVE WORN DEEP GROOVES INTO THE TIRE SIDEWALL IN EIGHT PLACES. THESE GROOVES, MADE BY COMPRESSION AND THE VIBRATRION/FRICTION OF NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION OVER TIME, HAVE SERIOUSLY COMPROMISED SAFETY OF THE TIRE SIDEWALL, CREATING WEAK SPOTS WHICH CAN LEAD TO A CATASTROPHIC BLOWOUT. FORD SERVICE PERSONELL TELL ME THAT "THIS IS THE WAY THAT ALL FORD TRUCKS ARE BUILT, THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF TRUCKS OUT THERE THAT WEAR THESE GROOVES IN THE SPARE TIRE SIDEWALLS." IF TRUE, THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE, BECAUSE A SIMPLE REDESIGN OF THE CARRIER COULD ELIMINATE THIS HAZARD.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 235/70/R16 )
SIDEWALL BLOWOUT OF PROPERLY INFLATED TIRE. FIST-SIZED HOLE RESULTED FROM FLAP THAT PEELED OFF, STARTING IN TREAD AREA AND EXTENDING INTO SIDEWALL AREA. TIRES HAVE MORE THAN HALF TREAD DEPTH LEFT, HAVE NEVER BEN RUN AGAINST CURB OR SCUFFED, ETC.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 235/70/R16 )
