BRAKES DON'T WORK WHEN I BACK UP OR WHEN GOING SLOW FORWARD. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F150. THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL RAIL ON THE ENGINE RUSTED VERY BADLY. THE CONTACT JUST NOTICED THIS PROBLEM YESTERDAY, THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW, AND IT HAS LOW MILEAGE. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD HIM THAT HE SHOULD PROBABLY FILE A COMPLAINT; BUT THEY HAVE NOT LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE YET. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NOVEMBER 27, 1998. *AK UPDATE 11/15/05. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F150. AT 3 AM WHILE SLEEPING THE CONTACT WOKE UP TO THE SOUND OF THE ANTI ALARM SYSTEM GOING OFF. WENT OUT AND FOUND THAT THE HOOD MELTED AND THE FIRE WAS COMING OUT OF THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. CALLED 911. IN THE MEANTIME THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND TRIED TO PUT THE FLAMES OUT WITH AN EXTINGUISHER. THE VEHICLE BURNED COMPLETELY EXCEPT FOR THE BACK BUMPER AND THE BACK TIRES. THEN , BASICALLY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND PUT THE FIRE OUT. AFTER THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT THE CONTACT CALLED THE INSURANCE COMPANY, AND THEY INVESTIGATED THE FIRE, AND FOUND OUT THAT THE FIRE WAS STARTED DUE TO THE ALTERNATOR. TWO DAYS PRIOR TO THE VEHICLE CATCHING ON FIRE THE CONTACT RECEIVED MANUFACTURER'S RECALL 05528 CONCERNING CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH. NEVER CHANGED THE ALTERNATOR OR THE WIRES. THE CONTACT'S BOAT AND HOME WERE DAMAGED . *AK
WHILE DRIVING ON A LOCAL HIGHWAY I FELT MY TRUCKS FRONT END VIBRATE THEN START TO WOBBLE. STOPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT I COULD SMELL THE ODOR OF HOT METAL. I PULLED IN A PARKING LOT GOT OUT OF MY TRUCK ANDWALKED AROUND THE FRONT OF MY TRUCK. I COULD FEEL A LOT OF HEAT COMMING FROM THE LEFT WHEEL. THERE WAS AN AUTO SERVICE DEALER OPEN BELOW WHERE I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY. I LEFT MY TRUCK TO BE CHECKED OUT. THE NEXT DAY I WAS TOLD I NEEDED UPPER BALL JOINT BALLJOINT ASSEMBLY ON BOTH SIDES ,LOWER CONTROL ARMS ON BOTH SIDES AND ALSO UPPER CONTRL ARMS. THE SHOP KEEP THE OLD PARTS. I WAS LUCKY BECAUSE ONE HOUR BEFORE THIS I WAS ON INTERSTATE 75 IN TRAFFIC. *NM
I WAS DRIVING MY FAMILY DOWN A WINDING MAJOR MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY IN MY 1999 FORD F150 TRUCK (5.4L V-8, 117400 MILEAGE) WHEN A LOUD BANG CAME FROM THE ENGINE AREA AND MY TRUCK LOST POWER. THIS STARTLED ME AND I LOST MOMENTARY CONTROL OF THE TRUCK. I REGAINED CONTROL AND PULLED TO THE ROAD SIDE. THE NEXT DAY (10/3/05) I TOOK THE TRUCK TO FAIRWAY FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY HAD REPLACED ALL THE SPARK PLUGS ABOUT 10,000 MILES PREVIOUSLY. THEY DETERMINED THE PROBLEM TO BE A "BLOWN OUT SPARK PLUG". BOTH THE SERVICE ADVISOR AND THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY A BAD DESIGN BY FORD (NOT ENOUGH THREADS TO HOLD THE PLUG) AND THE PREVIOUS PLUG REPLACEMENT HAD NOTHING TO NO WITH PROBLEM. THEY SAID NEITHER THEY NOR FORD WOULD TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM THEY CORRECTED THE PROBLEM BY INSTALLING A REMANUFACTURED LEFT SIDE CYLINDER HEAD, ALL PER A FORD TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN. THE COST WAS $2549.35. THEY KEPT THE OLD PARTS. *NM
WHILE DRIVING MY TUCK AT 40 MPH THERE WAS LOUD POP FROM THE ENGINE. THE TRUCK COULD NOT BE DRIVEN AND HAD TO BE TOWED. THE FORD DEALER TOLD ME THAT I HAD BLOWN A SPARK PLUG AND THAT I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE AT 5,000 DOLLARS. *JB
DT: ON SEPTEMBER 23, 2005 HAD A SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD OF THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS THE SPARK PLUG ON PASSENGER'S SIDE, NEAREST TO FIREWALL. THIS WAS THE THIRD COIL THAT THE CONSUMER HAD, BUT THIS IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THE SPARK PLUG CAME OUT. CONTACTED THE DEALER, THEY TOWED IT. THERE WAS NO FOREWARNING. AT 65 MPH, THE CONSUMER HEARD A POP AND THOUGHT IT WAS THE TIRE, BUT IT KEPT POPPING UNTIL VEHICLE STOPPED. THE CONSUMER EXITED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED IT WAS NOT THE TIRE. RAISED THE HOOD AND COULD SEE IT FLAPPING. NO LIGHTS IN DASHBOARD CAME ON AND GAUGES DID NOT MOVE. *AK *JB
I HAVE A 1999 FORD F150 WITH JUST OVER 60,000 MILES ON IT. IT HAS BEEN MAINTAINED VERY WELL AND HAS HAD NO PROBLEMS UNTIL NOW. WHILE DRIVING TO WORK ON 9/20/05, MY ENGINE SOUNDED LIKE IT BLEW UP. WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED WAS MY #3 CYLINDER SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT. THANKFULLY IT DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. AFTER INVESTIGATING HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM I LEARNED THIS WAS BECOMING VERY COMMON WITH FORD TRITON MOTORS AND WOULD COST APPX $3000 TO REPAIR. FORD OFFERED NO HELP OTHER THEN FOR ME TO BRING IT IN FOR THE EXPENSIVE REPAIR, WITH NO GUARANTEE IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. I THOUGHT THE TRUCK WOULD LAST MUCH LONGER THEN 60K MILES AND FEEL LIKE I BOUGHT A LEMON. *NM
TRUCK ONLY HAS 65,000 MILES AND THE ODOMETER WOULD GO ON AND OFF WHEN IT PLEASED. TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP, AND HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE INSTRUMENT PANEL. COST LOTS OF MONEY. *NM
I RECEIVED A LETTER TO DISCONNECT MY CRUISE CONTROL ON MY 1999 FORD F-150 IN SEPTEMBER, TO BE FIXED BY NOVEMBER. IT IS NOW DECEMBER AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT WILL NOT BE UNTIL FEBUARY THAT THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE TO INSTALL. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT IS TAKING SO LONG TO REPAIR A PROBLEM THAT IS THE MANUFACTURES FAULT. *JB
1. NO EVENTS LED TO FAILURE. 2. A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE ENGINE. THE CONSEQUENCE IS THAT THE ENGINE RUNS POORLY, IS LOUD AND HAS LITTLE POWER. 3. NO REPAIR HAS BEEN MADE YET. *JB
1999 FORD F250 WITH FIRESTONE STEELTEX TIRES. TREAD CAME OFF LEFT REAR TIRE. AN INSPECTION SHOWED TREAD WAS SEPARATING ON RT FRONT TIRE. SENT TIRE TO FIRESTONE AND GOT A FORM LETTER ABOUT ABUSE OF TIRES (UNDER INFLATED, OVER INFLATED). SAME LETTER FIRESTONE USED WHEN FAILURES OF RANGER TIRES WERE OCCURRING. I HAVE THE OIL CHANGED EVERY 6000 MILES AND HAVE TIRE PRESSURE CHECKED. I ALSO CHECK PRESSURE MYSELF. I ALSO ROTATED TIRES AS SUGGESTED BY FORD. TIRES HAD GOOD TREAD AND WEAR PATTERNS. THESE TIRES ARE DEFECTIVE. *NM
AUGUST 24 MY F150 TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE NEARLY KILLING ME AND DESTROYING MY HOUSE. I NOTIFIED FORD THEY SAID THEY WOULD GET BACK TO ME WHEN THEY DID THE LETTER STATES THAT I OWNED A WINDSTAR VAN AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME BECAUSE THE WINDSTAR HAS NO INVESTIGATIONS..I DO NOT A WINDSTAR THEY HAD THE CORRECT VIN NUMBER AND THIS DID DOT GET REPORTED TO YOU IN THE INVESTIGATIONS TRUCK IS 100% LOSS AND I NEED CORRECT COMPENSATION FOR MY LOSS. *NM
SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT ON 2ND TO LAST CYLINDER ON PASSENGER SIDE OF 1999 F150 W\ 5.4 LITER TRITON ENGINE. *NM
DT: 2001 FORD F150. THE CRUISE CONTROL SENSOR CAUGHT ON FIRE ON AUGUST 9, 2005. THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN THIS HAPPENED. SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT OF THE HOOD, HE PULLED OVER. THE SMOKE AND FLAMES WERE COMING FROM THE SENSOR. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOT CALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN DRIVEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY STATED IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, AND IT WAS NOT A RECALL ITEM . CONSUMER HAD TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGES $120 PLUS FOR THE FUSES THAT BLEW OUT. *AL
DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AND USING THE CRUISE CONTROL SMELLED SMOKE, AND THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING. CONSUMER CANCELED THE CRUISE CONTROL, THE NEXT MORNING EVERYTHING WAS FINE. CONSUMER NOT USE CRUISE CONTROL SINCE THE INCIDENT. THE CONSUMER'S SPECIFIC VEHICLE DID NOT FALL UNDER THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH RECALL ISSUED BY FORD. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE COMPONENT UNLESS THE CONSUMER PAID FOR THE REPLACEMENT. THE CONSUMER HAS NOT CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER.*AK
SPARK PLUG BLEW OFF WHEN I TURNED MY TRUCK ON. FORD RECOMMENDS NEW ENGINE BECAUSE APPARENTLY IT HAPPENS OFTEN. THERE IS CURRENTLY NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. TRUCK NEEDS REPAIR. *JB
DT: 1999 FORD F150. THERE WAS AN UNDER THE HOOD FIRE. THIS OCCURRED ON AUGUST 2, 2005. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED FOR APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES WHEN THE FIRE STARTED. THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND THERE WAS A REPORT. THERE IS NOT YET A DETERMINATION AS TO WHY THE FIRE STARTED. THE FIRE WAS SO HOT, THE HOOD WAS GONE. THE VEHICLE WAS SITTING 20 FEET AWAY FROM A MOBILE HOME AND IT MELTED THE SIDING. *AK *JB

CONSUMER HAS SINCE NOT HAD RECALL WORK DONE AND HAS NOT HEARD FROM MANUFACTURER. *TS THE CONSUMER STATED ABOUT A MONTH PRIOR TO RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTICE, HE DISCOVERED SMOKE COMING FROM HIS VEHICLE. SINCE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED, OTHER COMPONETS ON THE VEHICLE HAVE STOPPED WORKING.*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F150. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS IN THE DRIVEWAY AND IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER, WHO THE DEALER STATED THAT DUE TO THE DAMAGE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE WHETHER RECALL 06E056000 CONCERNING FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE WAS THE CAUSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INCIDENT WITH THIS VEHICLE HAPPENED ON JULY 30, 2005, AND THE RECALL NOTICE WAS RECEIVED IN SEPTEMBER 2005. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. *AK THIS IS NOT A FUEL SYSTEM RECALL, BUT A CRUISE CONTROL RECALL. THE DEALER SENT DIGITAL PICTURES TO FORD AND THEY REJECTED THE CUSTOMER'S CLAIM. DT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING, CHECKED THE BULBS, HAD A TOPPER WIRED INTO THEM . TOOK THAT OFF AND DISCONNECTED IT. TRIED FLASHERS, THEY WORKED. CHECKED FUSES, FIGURED IT WAS ONE OF THE TWO SWITCHES, EITHER THE ONE ON THE RESERVOIR OR THE ONE THE PEDAL UP UNDER THE DASHBOARD. FOUND OUT YESTERDAY ON JULY 20, 2005. *AK
DT: THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS COME ON WHILE THE SWITCH IS TURNED OFF. THE PROBLEM IS AN OFF AND ON ISSUE. THE PROBLEM STARTED ON JULY 20, 2005. SOMETIMES WHEN TURNING THE TURN SIGNAL LIGHT ON IT WILL HAPPEN, AND SOMETIMES WHEN TURNING LEFT THEY WILL COME ON. OVER THE PHONE A DEALERSHIP TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT THEY THOUGHT IT WAS DUE TO THE TURN SIGNAL. *AK
(1) 1999 FORD F150 THAT HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED, JUMPS INTO LOW GEAR WHILE TRAVELING AT SPEED LIMIT (45-55) THE OVERDRIVE LIGHT IS FLASHING. (2)IT THROWS YOU AGAINST THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS VEHICLE HAD NOT GIVEN ANY INDICATION OF PROBLEMS (3) CARRIED TO DEALER (MALLOY FORD, JASPER) ON JULY 23 WHEN I COULD TAKE IT. IT HAS NOT BEEN COMPLETED YET. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A HEAT RELATED PROBLEM, BUT CALLED BACK AND SAID IT WOULD NEED OVERHAULED FOR $3604 OR REPLACED FOR $2281.52. *NM
MY 1998 FORD F-150 XLT TRUCK WAS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY FOR 12 HRS. WHEN A FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE NEAR THE MASTERCYLINDER. THE FIRE DEPT. WAS NOTIFIED IMMEDIATELY AND ON SITE WITHIN 10 MINUTES. THE TRUCK IS TOTALLED BY FIRE. I HAVE JUST PAID IT OFF 2 MONTHS AGO, AND WAS PLANNING TO KEEP IT FOR AT LEAST 8 MORE YEARS. THERE WAS DAMAGE TO MY HOMNE FROM THE FIRE, AND THE INSIDE OF MY HOME IS STILL GETTING DAMAGED BY PLASTIC SOOTY MESS. I DROVE MY TRUCK FROM LOUISIANA TO WEST VIRGINIA THE PRIOR WEEK. AT THE BEGINNING OF THE TRIP, THE CRUISE CONTROL MALFUNCTIONED AND QUIT WORKING. I PLANNED ON TAKING IT TO FORD FOR REPAIR AFTER THE HOLIDAY. THE TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE ON 4TH OF JULY NIGHT BEFORE I HAD A CHANCE TO REPAIR. I HEARD OF THE FORD RECALL ON THE CRUISE CONTROL MALFUNCTION / FIRE AFTER THE FIRE. I CONTACTED FORD ABOUT THIS WITH MY VIN #. THEY ARE SAYING THAT MY NUMBER WAS NOT IN THE RECALL, THEREFORE I DID NOT GET A NOTICE FOR RECALL. I THINK MY VIN # BATCH SHOULD BE RECALLED. IF I WOULD HAVE PARKED IT IN A GARAGE, MY HOME AND FAMILY COULD HAVE SUFFERED INJURY / DEATH DUE TO THIS HAPPENING AT 1:00 AM, EVERYONE SLEEPING. I AM TRYING TO GET FORD TO OWN UP TO RESPONSIBILITY AND MAKE GOOD THEIR PRODUCT. ANY HELP OR LAWYER WORKING ON CASE WOULD BE HELPFUL TO PURSUE THIS.
DT: PROBLEM OCCURRED ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO INITIALLY. WATER GOES FROM WINDSHIELD TO GEM MODULE WHEN IT RAINS. THIS CAUSES WINDSHIELD WIPERS TO ONLY GO AT A CERTAIN SPEED UNLESS THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED OR PUT IN NEUTRAL. RADIO ALSO DIES WHEN THE WINDSHIELD WIPER PROBLEM OCCURS AND OWNER BELIEVES ALL THIS IS CAUSED BY THE GEM MODULE GETTING WET. THE GEM MODULE WAS REPLACED ONE TIME BUT THE PROBLEM RETURNED SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. WHEN IT RAINS A CRACKLING SOUND LIKE BACON IS HEARD AND A BURNING SMELL IS NOTICED. THIS WAS REPORTED TO FORD AND THEY REPORTED NO KNOWLEDGE OF PROBLEM AND SHOWED NO INTEREST. *JB
I AM SHOCKED TO DISCOVER THE THOUSANDS OF POSTINGS ON THE INTERNET CONCERNING THE '99 FORD F-150 THAT BLOWS A SPARK PLUG BECAUSE OF TOO FEW THREADS ON THE ENGINE IN THE ORIGINAL DESIGN. AS A VICTIM OF THIS FAILURE, THE DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME AND THAT THERE IS NO REMEDY FOR IT. THE COST FOR REPAIR IS ALMOST $3000 AND THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL NOT RECUR. SEEMS THAT FORD SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL THESE ENGINES AS IT CAN LEAD TO FIRE (AS STRAIGHT GAS GOES INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT) AND THE SPARK PLUG COULD SPARK AS IT BLOWS IGNITING FUMES OR FUEL. I WILL NEVER FEEL FULLY SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE AGAIN AND AM QUITE DISAPPOINTED THAT FORD IS GETTING AWAY WITH SUCH A FAULTY DESIGN! PLEASE HELP ALL FORD F-150 OWNERS THAT WILL FALL VICTIM TO THIS COSTLY REPAIR AND DANGEROUS SITUATION.
REMOVED AND INSTALLED TRANSMISSION LINE (FILLER PIPE WHERE YOU PUT OIL IN RUSTING THROUGH) INSTALLED TRANSMISSION DIPSTICK TUBE. 06/22/2005. REMOVED AND INSTALLED TRANSMISSION FILTER, TRANSMISSION FLUSH 08/30/2005. ON 02/08/2006 REMOVED TRANSMISSION, REBUILD TRANSMISSION, INSTALLED TRANSMISSION, FLUSHED TRANSMISSION COOLER. THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE FILLER PIPE(OIL INPUT) RUSTING AND LETTING WATER INTO THE SYSTEM. IT SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED FOR A 1999 FORD PICKUP F-150 WITH 65000 MILES, NO MATTER HOW OLD OR NEW IT WAS. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD FORD TRUCKS OR CARS AND DROVE THEM FOR THOUSANDS OF MILES WITHOUT THE AMOUNT OF PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD WITH THIS ONE, THERE IS A NOISE IN THE REAR END THAT I AM WATCHING NOW. *NM.....*AK

DT: WHILE DRIVING AT 35-45 MPH VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FLAME SCAME FROM UNDER THE HOOD. *AK
DT: FORD F150 1999. BEFORE THE FIRE, THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH FUSES STARTING ON 6/9/05. THERE WAS NO TURN SIGNAL. THE TURN SIGNALS RETURNED AFTER REPLACING THE FUSE/BRAKE LIGHTS, HAZARDS, OWNER THOUGHT IT WAS FUSE #23 OR 20. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY. THE FIRE OCCURRED IN THE WIRES GOING INTO THE MASTER CYLINDER UNDER HOOD. THERE WAS A SMELL COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD THE SAME DAY OF FIRE AT ABOUT 12:30 AND THEN FIRE HAPPENED AT 6 PM. WHEN OUTSIDE OWNER SMELLED A STRONG ODOR LIKE SMOKE. THEN SMOKE CAME FROM UNDER HOOD. THE OWNER OPENED THE HOOD AND THERE WERE FLAMES ABOUT 6 INCHES HIGH COMING OUT. THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT BY HOSE AND THEN OWNER TRIED TO START VEHICLE. STARTED IT AND DIDN'T SMOKE, BUT THERE WAS A BLOWN FUSE THAT GOVERNED THE HAZARD LIGHTS, ETC. OWNER BELIEVED IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOT CALLED NOR POLICE. THERE WERE NO PICTURES WERE TAKEN. VEHICLE IS NOW AT THE LOCAL MECHANIC. ALSO, OWNER HAS CONTACTED LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THE OWNER WILL ATTEMPT TODAY TO CONTACT FORD. VEHICLE IS NOT A TOTAL LOSS, ONLY SOME OF THE WIRES WERE BURNT AND SOME MELTED IN CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH. OWNER IS AWARE THAT THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION. *AK *SC *JB
PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT I HAD NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING OR SUSPENSION SYSTEM. ON THE EVENING OF JUNE 9, 2005 AS I WAS BRAKING AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN INTO A PARKING LOT I NOTICED THAT MY TRUCK SEEMED TO SKID. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS THE ABS SYSTEM SINCE THE ROAD WAS WET. THERE WAS A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, BUT I WAS ABLE TO STOP WITHOUT RUNNING INTO ANY OTHER VEHICLE. BECAUSE I DID NOT REALIZE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AT THAT TIME I CONTINUED INTO THE PARKING LOT, AND MADE ANOTHER RIGHT TURN INTO THE PARKING SPACE. AT THAT TIME THE TRUCK DID THE SAME THING; IT FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS SKIDDING. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE I NOTICED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER TIRES WERE POINTED IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS, SO I KNEW THAT A TIE ROD HAD COME DETACHED. AFTER TOWING THE TRUCK HOME I INSPECTED IT, AND REALIZED THAT THE PASSENGER INNER TIE ROD HAD SEPARATED AT THE BALL JOINT. INSPECTION OF THE JOINT REVEALED THAT BOTH PIECES WERE SIGNIFICANTLY RUSTED. I HAVE REPLACED THE INNER AND OUTER TIE ROD ENDS ON BOTH SIDES AS A PRECAUTION, SINCE I DID NOT KNOW IF THE OTHERS WOULD DO THE SAME THING.
I HAVE A 1999 F-150 FORD PICK-UP TRUCK 4-2L V-6, I WAS HAVING A LOW COOLEANT PROBLEM. TOOK IT TO MCDONOUGH RADIATOR SHOP, THEY REPLACED WATER PUMP AND GASKET. IT WAS STILL LOOSING COOLEANT. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND ASK IF THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD NO THERE WAS NOT. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SAME RADIATOR SHOP AFTER A CLOSER INSPECTION THEY REMOVED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND FOUND WATER IN THE BACK TWO CYLINDERS.THEY REPLACED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS, I PICKED THE VEHICLE UP I HAD NOT DROVE MORE THAN 3 MILES BEFORE IT STARTED TO MAKE A KNOCKING NOISE. I CALLED THE REPAIR SHOP AND TOOK IT BACK IMMEADIATELY, NOW THEY TELL ME THAT I HAVE 2 BENT PUSH RODS. THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO REPLACE THEM TODAY. I FOUND OUT LATER THAT I WAS NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM, AFTER SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET I FOUND A WEB SITE THAT HAS AN LONG LIST OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. WHEN I CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY CUSTOMER "NO SERVICE" I WAS TOLD THAT THERE HAD BEEN NO RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE FOR THAT PROBLEM AND THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME IN ANY WAY BECAUSE OF THE WARRENTY HAD EXPIRED. ACCORDING TO JASPER ENGINE REBUILDERS THE PROBLEM STEMS FROM A POORLY DESIGNED GASKET FOR THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND THAT IS WHAT CAUSED THIS PROBLEM, GOT THIS INFORMATION FROM ONE OF THEIR TECH BULLITENS.
DT: CONTACT STATES THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LOCK IS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE DOOR CANNOT BE UNLOCKED FROM THE OUTSIDE WITH THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL. THE BATTERY HAS BEEN REPLACED IN THE REMOTE CONTROL. CONTACT CAN UNLOCK THE DOOR WITH THE ACTUAL KEY. ALSO, THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, WHEN THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ARE TURNED ON THE RADIO WILL GO OFF. THERE IS AN APPOINTMENT SCHEDULE WITH A SERVICE DEALER FOR MONDAY, JUNE 27, 2005.*AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ENGINE WAS LEAKING OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE ENGINE'S HEAD GASKET HAD A SMALL CHIP CAUSING AN OIL LEAK. TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM, THE SERVICE DEALER RECOMMENDED A NEW HEAD GASKET TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE ONE.
BOTH TIE RODS BROKE ON THE 1999 FORD F150 AFTER 48000 MILES. *MR *SC *JB
A HIGH PITCH NOISE COMING FROM REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY AND SUBSEQUENT FAILURE OF THE ENTIRE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY. DEALER MECHANICS HAVE FOUND FOREIGN COMPONENTS INSIDE THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLY (A SILICON SEALER SQUEEZED AND WEDGED BETWEEN THE RING PINION GEARS AND THE INPUT SHAFT) THAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THE PROBLEM. THEY FOUND THE REAR AXLE LUBRICANT TO BE BURNT AND METAL DEBRIS WAS ALSO FOUND INSIDE THE CASING OF THE DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLY. VEHICLE FAILED AT AROUND 55,000 MILES AND 6 YEARS OF SERVICE. REAR AXLE HAVE NOT BEEN PREVIOUSLY SERVICED BY ME OR ANY OTHER SERVICE FACILITY BEFORE THE ABOVE MENTIONED FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW AND IT HAS BEEN IN MY POSSESSION EVER SINCE. TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE AND MAKE THE VEHICLE DRIVABLE AGAIN, A $2,500.00 WORTH OF REPAIR (DEALER RECOMMENDED REBUILD OF THE ASSEMBLY) HAD TO BE PERFORMED. FORD IS DENYING ANY CLAIMS THAT I HAVE MADE IN ORDER TO RECEIVE ASSISTANCE. OLD PARTS AND THE FOREIGN COMPONENT HAVE BEEN SAVED AND ARE IN MY POSSESSION. I BELIEVE (WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE SERVICE REP. AND THE MECHANIC) THAT THE POOR ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE AT THE FACTORY AND THE FOREIGN PART FOUND IN THE FAILED COMPONENT TO BE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM.
DT CONSUMER STATES WHILE DRIVING HIS VEHICLE THE LEFT TIE ROD BROKE, CAUSING HIM TO LOSE CONTROL OF STEERING. THE MANUFACTURER DID ISSUED A LETTER IN DECEMBER, 2004, STATING THAT THE TIE RODS NEEDED TO BE CHECKED IN THE VEHICLE. COMSUMER STATES THE TIE RODS APPEARED TO BE FINE AT THAT TIME. *TT
DT: BOUGHT A USED TRUCK, AND AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED HAD TO REPLACE THE STARTER/THE BALL JOINTS/HE UPPER TIE RODS, AND THE CONTROL ARM ON BOTH SIDES. ENGINE MANIFOLD SPLIT, AND EXHAUST SYSTEM RUSTED. LATER, WHILE DRIVING TIE RODS CAME OFF. THERE WAS A SLIGHT DROP AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE PARKING LOT, AND AS VEHICLE WENT BACK UP THE DROP, IT SLID AND THERE WAS AN IMPACT. GOT OUT OF THE CAR, AND SAW THAT THE TIE ROD CAME OFF AND GOUGED INTO THE PAVEMENT. SPOKE TO THE MANAGER OF COUNTRY CLUB CHEVROLET, AND HE SIMPLY GAVE CONSUMER A DISCOUNT ON PARTS AND LABOR. YESTERDAY HE WENT TO A CERTIFIED USED VEHICLE DEALER AND ASKED FOR THE 88-POINT INSPECTION,, AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE THAT INFORMATION. *AK
MY FORD F-150 CAUGHT FIRE AND "EXPLODED" WHILE PARKED IN A SCHOOL PARKING LOT.
TIE ROD BROKE AT BALL JOINT WHILE TRAVELING AT SLOW SPEED.(5 MPH). *JB
I OWN A 1999 FORD F-150. TWICE SINCE I BOUGHT IT, THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE REAR AXLE. ONE AXLE AND BEARINGS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. THE OTHER SIDE IS NOW DOING THE SAME THING. OTHER OWNERS HAVE TOLD ME THEY HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS, SOMETIMES BOTH BEARINGS GOING TOGETHER OR SEPARATELY. IT MAY APPEAR THAT THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECT IN THE AXLE OR BEARINGS. VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 80,000 MILES. *NM
MANUFACTURING DEFECT - PLUG THREAD FAILURE VEHICLE IS A 1999 FORD F-150 4X WITH 5.4L TRITON AND APPROX. 45,000 MILES. WHILE UNAGGRESSIVELY ACCELLERATING AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND A LOUD POPPING SOUND COULD BE HEARD. THE VEHICLE WAS IMMEDIATELY PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, TURNED OFF, AND TOWED TO A REPAIR FACILITY. NO INJURY OR CRASH OCCURRED. INVESTIGATION INDICATED A SPARK PLUG AND COIL HAD BEEN EJECTED FROM THE HEAD. THE PLUG WAS THE 2ND FROM THE FRONT ON PASSENGER SIDE. THE THREADS IN THE HEAD WERE STRIPPED SUCH THAT A NEW SPARK PLUG COULD NOT BE SEATED. A HELICOIL WAS INSTALLED FOR APPROX. $300 AND LOSS OF VEHICLE FOR A WEEK, BUT IT FAILED AFTER APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS. THIS FAILURE WAS EVIDENCED BY ENGINE MISFIRE, POWER LOSS AND SLUGGISHNESS. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT SAME PLUG WAS NOT FIRING, AND WAS NOT ABLE TO BE REMOVED BECAUSE THE HELICOIL THREADS WERE ALSO STRIPPED. THE HEAD WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $3,626 WITH AND ADDITIONAL 2 WEEKS LOST VEHICLE USE (2 COMPARABLE QUOTES FROM REPUTABLE AUTO REPAIR PROVIDERS WERE OBTAINED). REPAIR TIME WAS LONGER THAN USUAL AS THE PART HAD TO BE ORDERED FROM OUT-OF-STATE AND EXPEDITED SHIPPING WAS DEEMED TOO EXPENSIVE. AT THIS TIME, HOWEVER, THE ENGINE MISFIRES CONTINUOUSLY AT IDLE AND FREQUENTLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP FOR A 3RD TIME TO INVESTIGATE THIS CONTINUING CONDITION. *NM
I HAVE HAD DIFFERENT TWO SPARK PLUGS BLOW OUT OF THE HEAD AT DIFFERENT TIMES. A HELI COIL WAS USED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *NM
BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT. FIRST WAS THE PASSENGER SLIDE FRONT, THEN THE IN 2008 THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER SIDE RUSTED OUT. NOW THE FRONT DRIVER SLIDE BRAKE LINE RUSTED OUT. I PURCHASED THE TRUCK IN OHIO AUGUST 1999. I MOVED TO NORTH CAROLINE IN JUNE OF 2000. WITH THE OCCASIONAL TRIP TO OHIO THE TRUCK HAS BEEN HOUSED IN NORTH CAROLINA FROM 6/1/2000 TO PRESENT DAY. I WOULD EXPECT THIS IF HAD REMAINED IN OHIO BUT NOT FROM A SOUTHERN TRUCK. I QUESTION THE QUALITY OF THE STEEL BRAKE LINES. ARE OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME TROUBLE??? *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL, A BURNING ODOR FILTERED THROUGH THE VEHICLE. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS SWITCH OFF WHICH CAUSED THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS TO MALFUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. A RECALL WAS LETTER WAS RECEIVED #05V388000 PERTAINING TO THE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER WHERE THE HARNESS WAS REPLACED AND THE CONTACT WAS DIRECTED TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER ABOUT THE PRIOR PROBLEMS THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURE WAS CALLED AND DETERMINED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR DAMAGES CAUSED BY THE RECALL COMPONENT.
REAR AXLE BROKE, PULLED ME OFF THE HIGHWAY, WITNESS BEHIND ME SAID IT WAS AS THOUGH THE REAR END JUMPED UP. MY TRUCK WAS TOTALED, AND BECAUSE I HIT A CULVERT THAT DID EVEN MORE DAMAGE TO THE UNDERSIDE, I'M NOT SURE THAT CAN TELL IT WAS A MECHANICAL FAILURE. I TOOK PICTURES OF THE TIRE MARKS IN THE WET GRASS AND THE RIGHT TIRE PATH WAS ABOUT TWO FEET WIDE AS IF THE TIRES WERE SIDEWAYS, THIS WAS BEFORE THE CULVERT WAS HIT. THE LEFT SIDE TIRE TRACKS WERE OF NORMAL WIDTH. I DID NOT RUN OFF THE ROAD, I WAS PULLED OFF THE ROAD. IT SEEMED AS THOUGH I STILL HAD CONTROL OF THE STEERING BUT THE REAR END WENT ITS OWN WAY. WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT NO INJURIES/FATALITIES OCCURRED. I AT THIS POINT CANNOT REPLACE MY TRUCK THAT I BOUGHT NEW AND TREATED LIKE A BABY. THE TRUCK WAS TAKEN IN AT LEAST FOUR TIMES EARLY BY MY HUSBAND, AND THEY WERE TO NOTIFY THE FORD COMPANY. MY HUSBAND PASSED AWAY IN DECEMBER 2000, AND BEING AS I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM THAT OCCURRED ONLY WHEN GOING OVER 45, I.E., DOWN THE FREEWAY AS MY HUSBAND OFTEN DID, I ASSUMED IT WAS CORRECTED, BUT SO DISTRAUGHT THAT THE MECHANICS OF THE TRUCK WAS THE LAST THING ON MY MIND UNTIL THE MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN OCCURRED. I THINK THE FORD COMPANY SHOULD REPLACE MY DEFECTIVE VEHICLE WITH ONE OF EQUAL VALUE, ONE OWNER, HIGHWAY MILES, AND EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION WITHOUT ANY EXPENSE TO ME. I HAVE A VERY HIGH DEDUCTIBLE, AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET A TRUCK COMPARABLE WITH THE MONEY FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY.*AK
DT : CAR WAS PARKED AND IT WAS SMOKING . OPENED THE HOOD QUICKLY, PULLED THE ELECTRICAL LINE , COULD STILL DRIVE AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER. THEY CHARGED TO FIX IT. SMOKE WAS DUE TO THE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH. THIS HAPPENED BACK IN APRIL 2005. CONSUMER DIDN'T SEE ACTUAL FLAMES, BUT PLENTY OF SMOKE LOOKED LIKE AS IT WAS GETTING READY TO CATCH ON FIRE.*AK

RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V017000 CONCERNING SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF THE CONSUMER'S HOME FOR 9 HOURS WHEN THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONSUMER EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. *AK *SC *JB
FAILURE OF FRONT END STERRING PARTS( BALL JOINTS, TIE RODS, AND IDLER ARM). ON SEVERAL OCCASSIONS MY MECHANIC HAS INSTRUCTED ME THAT I SHOULD HAVE THE FRONT END CHECK FOR WEAR AND TEAR DUE TO PREMATURE FAILURES IN THESE PARTS. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME IN THE PAST 3 YEARS (@ABOUT 20K MILES PER YEAR) I HAVE HAD MAJOR REPLACEMENTS DONE ON THESE PARTS. I DO NOT BELEIVE THE FAILURE IS DUE TO DRIVING CONDITIONS, MOST IS AT HIGH WAYS SPEEDS ON REASONABLY SMOOTH ROADS. THE LATEST FAILURE HAS ME VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE OVERALL SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE AS I TYPICAL DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY. MY MECHANIC INDICATED IF A FAILURE OCCURS AT HIGHWAYS SPEEDS - IT MIGHT NOT BE A GREAT OUTCOME... I FEEL I AM LUCKY IN THAT EVERY TIME I GO TO THE MECHANIC (SERVERAL TIMES PER YEAR) I HAVE HIM CHECK THESE PARTS. I RECENTLY RECEIVED AN INSPECTION IN JUNE 2004 AND THESE PARTS WERE OK THEN. NOW (MAR 2005) AND I HAVE A MAJOR REPLACEMENT GOING ON. THE MACHANIC INDICATED THAT I AM NOT ALONE AND THE PROBLEM IS VERY WIDE SPREAD. DO NOT GET ME WRONG - I REALLY LIKE THE TRUCK AND WOULD BUY ANOTHER, BUT SO FAR DEALERS (2 LOCAL) INDICATE THAT MY PROBLEMS ARE NOT AS WIDE SPREAD. HENCE I NO LONGER GO TO FORD DEALERS FOR SERVICE. THE MECHANIC HAS ALSO INDICATED THAT THIS ISSUE MAY BE LARGER IN SCOPE THANT THE FIRESTONE TIRE ISSUES FORD HAD YEARS AGO (SPECULATION). BUT NONE THE LESS - MY MECHANIC HAS SEEN MANY OF THESE ISSUES AND HE IS A SMALL OPERATION IN A SMALL TOWN. AT THIS STAGE I AM UNLIKELY TO RE-PURCHASE A FORD F150 AND HAVE MAJOR CONCERNS OVER THE SAFTEY OF THE VEHICLE.
