The contact owned a 1999 Ford F-150. The contact stated that he had parked the vehicle and was standing outside of the vehicle, between the driver's side door and the vehicle; however, the vehicle reversed independently at 5-7 MPH onto the highway. The contact's back was slammed against the pole of a speed limit sign and he hit his face against the door. The contact stated that he was crushed between the driver's side door and the speed limit sign. The contact was released by emergency units and was transported to the hospital by air ambulance. The contact was diagnosed with a partly broken face, broken nose, broken eyes socket, broken teeth on the left side of the face, fractured skull, right and left clavicle fracture, 4-5 ribs fracture, which led to lung failure, hematoma in the abdomen, spinal damage. Additionally, the contact was on life support for four months. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed. The contact was unsure whether the vehicle was totaled. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 98V192000 (Vehicle Speed Control); however, the VIN was not included. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to send documentation pertaining to the failure along with medical bills and records. The failure mileage was approximately 190,000.

CAR HAD BEEN PARKED SINCE 6:00 PM THURSDAY EVENING. DISCOVERED SMOKING AT 6:45 AM FRIDAY MORNING. FIRE STARTED IN ENGINE DRIVER'S SIDE. CAR WAS TOTAL LOSS. FORTUNATELY A NEIGHBOR MOVED THE CAR AWAY FROM THE HOUSE BEFORE IT ERUPTED IN FLAMES. RESEARCH ON LINE INDICATES THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS FIRE INCIDENTS BECAUSE OF FAULTY SCD (CRUISE CONTROL) SWITCH. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F150. AFTER BEING PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO HOURS, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE. THE ENGINE WAS NOT TURNED ON AT THE TIME AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND FILED A REPORT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. AS A RESULT, THE FIRE INSPECTOR COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. CRUISE LIGHT ON PANEL WOULD LIGHT UP AND TURN IMMEDIATELY OFF AND CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT COME ON. NOTICED SMOKEY SMELL ONCE OR TWICE, BUT NEVER REALLY BAD. WENT OUT TO LUNCH AND LEFT TRUCK IT WAS FINE CAME BACK LATER TO THE SMELL OF SMOKE. DROVE 4 MILES TO DEPT. STORE SMELL GOT STRONGER. THOUGHT IT WOULD BE OK WITH TRUCK SHUT OFF, CAME BACK OUT TO LEAVE AND SMOKE SMELL WAS GREATER THAN EVER. OPEN HOOD AND TOUCHED AROUND MASTER CYLINDER AND DEFECTIVE SWITCH SMOKE BEGAN AGAIN BUT ALOT WORSE. UNPLUGGED SWITCH FROM MASTER CYLINDER AND SMOKE STOPPED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH AND IMMEDIATELY SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE DEALER INFORMED HER THAT THE PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE IN DECEMBER OF 2007. THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH WAS DISCONNECTED AT THAT TIME. SHE CALLED BACK IN DECEMBER AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PARTS WOULD BE UNAVAILABLE UNTIL MARCH OF 2008. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,000.

IT IS NOW DECEMBER AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT WILL NOT BE UNTIL FEBUARY THAT THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE TO INSTALL. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT IS TAKING SO LONG TO REPAIR A PROBLEM THAT IS THE MANUFACTURES FAULT. *JB
