MY REAR DOORS ON MY FORD, F-150 CREW CAB PICKUP STOPPED OPENING. THIS IS AN ENTRAPMENT ISSUE AND A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. IF THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT, PASSENGERS IN THE REAR WOULD BE TRAPPED AND UNABLE TO ESCAPE. FROM THE RESEARCH I FOUND ON THE INTERNET, THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE CABLE MECHANISM THAT OPERATES THE REAR DOOR LATCHES AND COMMON FAULT WITH THESE TYPE OF DOOR FOR THE FORD PICKUPS MANUFACTURED AROUND THIS TIME FRAME. AND IT LOOKS LIKE FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS AND HAS NOT ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE. BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS FOR FORD TO REPAIR DUE TO THE ENTRAPMENT ISSUE.
MY VEHICLE FAILED PA STATE INSPECTION DUE TO ROTTED OUT CORNERS OF THE FENDERS & RADIATOR SUPPORT ASSY. AND IS DEEMED UN-DRIVABLE AND UN-USABLE EVEN THOUGH THE REST OF THE TRUCK IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION . THIS ASSY GOES ACROSS THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, HOLDS THE RADIATOR & AID COND CORES IN THE MIDDLE, AND ATTACHES TO BOTH FRONT BENDERS VIA SPOT WELDS AND IT'S LOWER CORNERS ATTACH TO THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK VIA SHOCK MOUNTS AND 2 LARGE BOLTS THUS ALSO SUPPORTING THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE TRUCK ATTACHING IT TO THE FRAME . WITH BOTH LOWER CORNERS OF THIS ASSY ROTTED AWAY THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK IS NOW FLOATING & SUSPENDED AND IS NOW NOT ATTACHED TO THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK THUS THIS IS A MAJOR HAZARD AND ESPECIALLY ON IMPACT IF IN A FRONTAL ACCIDENT . THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ONLINE ON F150'S ALL THE WAY UP TO 2006 . THE "CAUSE" OF THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE PLASTIC FENDER WELLS DO NOT COME DOWN FAR ENOUGH IN THE FRONT SO WATER, SNOW, SLUSH, AND SALT ARE FLUNG FORWARD BY THE FRONT TIRES AND HIT THE BACK SIDE OF THE FRONT BUMPER AND THEN ARE DIRECTED BACK INTO THE FENDERS & RADIATOR SUPPORT ASSY WHICH IS AN OPEN-TOP BOX CHANNEL ON THE BOTTOM WITH NO DRAIN HOLES . SINCE THE WATER, SNOW, SLUSH, AND SALT LAY IN THIS OPEN-TOP BOX CHANNEL IT JUST ROTS THE CORNERS OUT . THIS IS PURELY A DESIGN PROBLEM 2 WAYS; 1. FENDER WELLS TOO SHORT IN THE FRONT 2. NO DRAIN HOLES IN THE OPEN-TOP BOX CHANNEL 3. THE ENTIRE ASSY OF POOR STEEL QUALITY AND NOT PRESERVED WITH RUST PROOFING SO NOW I HAVE A LOW MILEAGE 1999 F150 IN EXCELLENT CONDITION THAT'S UN-USABLE !!! LOCAL DEALER SAID THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF A RECALL SO I'M HOPING THIS INFORMATION WILL GENERATE ONE BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY OTHER VEHICLES OUT THERE WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM UP THRU AT LEAST 2006 . I HAVE MANY GREAT PICTURES OF THE ROTTED OUT ASSY. AND CAN EMAIL THEM UPON REQUEST .
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A STRAP DANGLING FROM BENEATH THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
SPARE TIRE FELL OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE WILL DRIVING. *TR
1-SEVERE CORROSION OF FUEL TANK STRAPS. THE REAR STRAP IS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH, RESULTING IN THE TANK BEING HELD UP BY THE FRONT STRAP. THE SKID PLATE IS KEEPING THE TANK FROM FALLING DOWN. LUCKILY I NOTICED THIS WHILE CHECKING THE AIR PRESSURE IN MY TIRES. I WILL BE GETTING NEW STRAPS THIS WEEK TO DO THE REPAIR MYSELF. I WILL KEEP THE OLD STRAPS. 2- BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCH ON MASTER CYLINDER LEAKS. THIS CAUSES THE CRUISE CONTROL TO BE INOPERATIVE. BRAKE FLUID LEAKS OUT ONTO THE WIRING. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD THE REPAIR FOR THE RECALL ON THE WIRING HARNESS. I BELIEVE THAT THE LEAKING BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCH ALSO CREATES A FIRE HAZARD AS IT COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A SHORT IN THE WIRING. I WILL ALSO OBTAIN AND REPLACE THIS PART. *TR
1999 FORD F150 4WHEEL DRIVE THE FRONT GAS TANK STRAP BECAME DETACHED FROM THE MOUNT . THE STRAP DRAGGED THE GROUND . I AM HAPPY IT DID NOT CAUSE ANY OTHER DAMAGE. THE STRAP MOUNT IS TOTALLY RUSTED THROUGH AND I DO NOT KNOW HOW OR IF IT CAN BE REPAIRED. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 93K MILES ON IT. *TR
I HAVE A 1999 FORD F-150 EXTENDED CAB THERE IS A CRACK IN THE METAL AREA NEXT TO THE WINDOW AREA ON BOTH BIG DOORS. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT CERTAIN MODEL YEARS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED. THESE CRACKS ARE GETTING WORSE. SINCE I FOUND THIS I LOOK AT OTHER FORD TRUCKS AND ON CERTAIN YEARS I BELIEVE 1999-2003 OR 2004 ON THE EXT .CABS THAT THESE CRACKS APPEAR ON EITHER ONE SIDE AND CERTAIN YEARS ON BOTH SIDES. I HAVE CALLED FORD BUT THEY WILL NOT RESPOND. I CAN FAX YOU A PICTURE OF THESE CRACKS IF YOU LIKE. I BELIEVE THESE CRACKS HAVE BEEN THERE SINCE MANUFACTURE DATE. *JB

DOORS ARE CRACKING APPROXIMATELY 4 1/2 INCH FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDOW WHERE THE DOOR HANDLES ARE LOCATED. VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. MANUFACTURER IS AWARE THE PROBLEM, AND A REPAIR KIT IS AVAILABLE. THE COST OF THE KIT IS $600.00 PER DOOR.*AK *MR
