WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. CONSUMER EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. THEN, VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE SPEED CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
ON DECEMBER 22, 2004, MY 2000 FORD F150 TRUCK CAUGHT ON FIRE IN MY DRIVEWAY. IT HAD BEEN PARKED WITH THE ENGINE OFF FOR 30 MINUTES. LUCKILY MY WIFE HAD COME HOME AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD WHILE THE REST OF THE FAMILY WAS INSIDE THE HOUSE. BY THE TIME I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE TRUCK AND OPEN THE HOOD, FLAMES WERE COMING OUT OF THE DRIVERS SIDE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THEM OUT WITH A GARDEN HOSE. THE REPAIR ESTAMITE WAS OVER $9,000. IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. THE TRUCK WAS PARKED NEXT TO THE HOUSE AND ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT WERE NOT DAMAGED. I HAVE BEEN READING WHERE THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL AND HEARD OF A RECALL TODAY. I HAVE PICTURES IF NEEDED.*AK
RECENTLY MY CRUISE CONTROL QUIT WORKING ON MY 2000, F150, FORD TRUCK, (WITHIN THE LAST MONTH) AND TODAY MY WIFE DROVE MY TRUCK HOME, PARKED IT IN OUR DRIVEWAY, WENT INTO THE HOUSE AND WITHIN APPROXIMATELY AN HOUR AND A HALF THE TRUCK ENGINE COMPARTMENT BURST INTO FLAMES AND BURNT UP THE TRUCK, NEARLY CATCHING FIRE TO THE HOUSE. THE TRUCK WAS NOT RUNNING AT THE TIME. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME OUT AND PUT OUT THE FIRE, BUT THE TRUCK WAS A COMPLETE LOSS. THE FIRE CHIEF SAID THAT IT APPEARED TO BE AN ELECTRICAL FIRE THAT ORIGINATED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE ENGINE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY, ALFA, HAS BEEN CONTACTED AND WE WILL NOTIFY THEM OF THE INFORMATION WE'VE GOTTEN FROM THE INTERNET ABOUT NUMEROUS FIRES WITH THIS MODEL TRUCK.*AK
WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED A FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD, AND WAS PUT OUT. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK CRUISE CONTROL FAILED APPROXIMATELY 3 WEEKS PRIOR TO FIRE. *TT
WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED A FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK *NM
JUST RECENTLY I HAD TO HAVE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION REBUILT & A NEW PLANETARY GEAR INSTALLED. THERE WAS NO WARNING - THE VAN JUST SIMPLY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. REVERSE WAS THE ONLY GEAR THAT WOULD WORK. IF YOU KNOW HOW I CAN NOTIFY FORD ABOUT PLEASE ADVISE SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED BUT IT HAS LESS THAN 75,000 MILES ON IT. AT THE TIME THE TRANSMISSION FAILED, THE MILEAGE WAS 72901. *AK
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY FOR ABOUT 4 HOURS WHEN THE OWNER LOOKED OUT THE WINDOW AND SAW FLAMES COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. SHE DIDN'T USE THE CRUISE CONTROL, SO SHE WASN'T SURE IF IT QUIT WORKING OR NOT. #2 AND #14 FUSES WERE BLOWN AND #13 WAS NOT BLOWN. THE OWNER STATED THAT SHE SAW THE WIRES FOR THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH CONNECTOR ARCING IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED. PICTURES FORWARDED TO BRUCE YORK. *JB *TC
VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE PARKED IN THE GARAGE ATTACHED TO THE CONSUMER'S HOME. THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE FIRE INVESTIGATOR CONFIRMED THAT THE FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AREA. *AK....CONSUMER FELT THAT IT WAS AN ENGINE FIRE CAUSED BY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. FORD WAS UNWILLING TO INVESTIGATE PROBLEM, WANTED NHTSA TO DO A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION OF FORD F-150 TRUCKS. *AK
1) 2000 F 150 PARKED IN CLOSED GARAGE AND THE VEHICLE WAS LOCKED FOR AT LEAST 10 HOURS. JUST AS I WAS GOING TO BED, HEARD A LOUD BOOM, WENT OUTSIDE TO SEE, CAME BACK IN NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE SIDE DOOR OF GARAGE THAT LEADS INTO THE HOUSE. I OPENED SIDE ENTRY DOOR TO GARAGE, SAW FLAMES SHOOTING OUT OT THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE OF THE F150. HOME IS UNINHABITABLE IN ITS CURRENT STATE, TRUCK IS TOTALLY DESTROYED, BURNED TO THE GROUND. NOTHING CAN BE DONE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE, IT IS A TOTAL LOSS. NATIONWIDE, VEHICLE SAFETY IS A CONCERN FOR CONSUMERS. I AM AWARE THROUGH MY COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AND POLITICAL BACKGROUND THAT THIS AGENCY IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN HELP ME WITH A PROBLEM A DANGEROUS AS THIS, OF ENGINE FIRES IN THE F-150 AND APPEARS THAT IT MAY NOT BE LIMITED TO THE F 150'S.*AK
THIS IS A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION. LAST YEAR THERE WAS A FIRE STRARTED BY A RELAY FAILURE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THIS REPAIR WAS $2300.00, $435.00 WAS NOT COVERED BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WE PURCHASED. IN THE PAST MONTH I HAVE NOTICED PAINT FAILURE LEADING TO RUST ON THE ROOF, AND LAST FRIDAY THE ENGINE FAILED WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING. CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. FORD SAYS WE NEED A NEW ENGINE WHICH WILL COST $5,500.00. THE ENGINE HAS 71,000 MILES ON IT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY RAN OUT AT 65,000. WHEN THE ENGINE FAILED, IT EFFECT THE BREAKING AND POWER STEERING. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE AND FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES.*AK
CONSUMER WAS NOTIFIED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. CONSUMER NOTICED FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. CONSUMER TRIED TO PUT THE FIRE. OUT, BUT COULDN'T DO SO. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. VEHICLE WAS NOT TOWED.*AK
DROVE VEHILCE ALL DAY. IN TOWN-VARIOUS JOB SITES. PARKED VEHICLE IN FRONT OF OFFICE . APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES LATER HEARD LOUD POPPING. FOUND VEHICLE'S FRONT END COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. FIRE DEPARTMENT SAID MOST LIKELY DUE TO WIRING.*AK CRUISE CONTROL HAD STOPPED WORKING MONTH PRIOR.
VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY CAUGHT ON FIRE WHEN IT WAS PARKED. CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL HAD A SHORT, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CATCH FIRE. CONSUMER WILL NOTIFY MANUFACTURER.*AK
CONSUMER CAME HOME, PARKED THE VEHICLE, AND WENT TO BED. LATER, THERE WAS A KNOCK ON THE DOOR, AND THE CONSUMER WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. CONSUMER HAD AN INVESTIGATION DONE TO SEE IF THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SET ON FIRE. THE REPORT CAME BACK NEGATIVE.*AK *ER

ABS LIGHT COMMENCES TO ILLUMINATE WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH OR MORE. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE ABS CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CORROSION. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED.*AK
WHILE PARKED VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DISCOVERED THAT THEIR WAS SOME TYPE OF ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILURE. NO INJURIES REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *AK
VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE INADVERTENTLY WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. VEHICLE BURNED TO THE GROUND. CONSUMER NOTIFIED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. *AK

2000 F150 PICK UP, PARKED IN DRIVEWAY FOR 20 MINUTES NOT RUNNING. CAUGHT ON FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, LEFT SIDE BY THE CRUSE CONTROL UNIT.*AK
AS PER AN AUGUST 2004 LETTER FROM FORD, I HAD MY F-150 TIE RODDS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR FACILITY AND, INDEED, FOUND THEM SEVERLY WORN AND DANGEROUS. THEY ARE BEING REPAIRED AS I WRITE. SINCE FORD WROTE US THE LETTER, THEY MSUT KNOW OF A PROBLEM. I HAVE NEVER HAD TIE RODS FAIL BEFORE IN ANY MAKE CAR I HAVE OWNED.*AK
MY 2000 FORD EXPEDITION CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE SITTING IN OUR DRIVEWAY. THE SUV HAD BEEN PARKED FOR 5+ HOURS. OUR NEIGHBOR GOT UP TO USE THE RESTROOM AROUND 11:45 AND NOTICED FLAMES SHOOTING FROM OUR SUV. THE FIRE COMPLETLY DESTROYED OUR TRUCK. THE FIRE GOT SO HOT IT MELTED THE HOOD,FRONT TIRES AND THE FRONT CAB. OUR TRUCK WAS IN GOOD CONDITION NO MAJOR MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. HOW DOES A TRUCK BURSTT INTO FLAMES WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY?*AK
WATER LEAKING IN TOP RIGHT OF WINDSHIELD, DOWN TO THE DASH. EVIDENTLY IT LEAKED TO THE CONTROL BOX AND SHORTED OUT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. CAUSED CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE. *NM
WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE HOOD WAS OPENED, THE BRAKE DEACTIVATION SWITCH WAS ON FIRE. AFTER OPENING THE HOOD THE FLAME GREW. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN HOME AND THEN TO THE DEALER. *AK THE CYLINDER RESEVOIR MELTED AND THE CRUISE CONTROL WIRE MELTED AS A RESULT OF THE FIRE. *TC
TRUCK PARKED AFTER LUNCH - SPONTANEOUSLY IGNITED IN PARKING LOT - ORIGIN IN LEFT REAR OF ENGINE COMPARTMENT - CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH RECOVERED - SWITCH HEAD EXAMINED WITH X-RAYS - ONE CONTACT IN TACT WHILE THE OTHER IS SPLATTERED AND MELTED - INDICATES ELECTRICAL ARCING ACTIVITY INSIDE SWITCH - FUSE # 13 BLOWN. *NM
GOODYEAR, WRANGLER RTS, P255/70R16, DOT#4BCUC6WR1200. THESE TIRES WERE ON THE VEHICLE WHEN PURCHASED FROM THE DEALER BRAND NEW. CURRENTLY, THE SAME TIRES DEVELOPED SLITS ON THE INNER SIDEWALLS. THIS DEFECT WAS DISCOVERED WHEN THE TIRES WERE BEING ROTATED. CONSUMER LATER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, WHO REFERRED THE CONSUMER TO ANOTHER TIRE DISTRIBUTOR, WHO WAS OF NO ASSISTANCE. *AK *JB
I HAVE A 2000 F150 FORD P/U WITH GOOD YEAR WRANGLER RT/S TIRES. THE SIDEWALLS HAVE 2-3 SLITS/CRACKS ON EACH TIRE. THESE SLITS ARE ABOUT 3/4-1 INCH LONG. THESE TIRES CAME STOCKED ON THE TRUCK. THEY WERE MADE THE 12TH MONTH OF 2000. I SAY THEY ARE DEFECTIVE AND A HUGH SAFTY PROBLEM. TIRE TREAD IS ABOUT ONLY HALF WORN.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIE ROD HAD BROKEN AND BOTH INNER TIE RODS WERE REPLACED. *BF *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH BURNED THE BRAKE RESERVOIR AND THE BRAKES FAILED. ALL THE FLUID LEAKED OUT, AND THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. *AK
THE BRAKES AT 38000 MILES WERE COMPLETELY WORN DOWN TO THE ROTORS. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE BRAKES, AND ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED. *AK
WHEN STEERING WHEEL IS NOT ALL THE WAY UP THE TURN SIGNALS, HAZARD LIGHTS, AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT WORK. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATE THAT THERE IS A CLIP IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT IS BROKE. THIS ALL HAPPENED 2 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE TRUCK AND THEY WILL NOT FIX IT DUE TO THERE BEING NO WARRANTY. AT THE SAME TIME THE KEYLESS ENTRY STOPPED WORKING AS WELL AS THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS. THEY STATED THAT THIS WAS BECAUSE THE MOTOR IN BOTH DOORS HAD WENT OUT. SEEMS ODD TO ME THAT THEY WOULD BOTH GO AT THE SAME TIME. *JB
WHILE DRIVING FOR 1/2 HOUR AND PARKED FOR 1 HOUR AT STORE SMELLED SMOKE. OPENED HOOD SLIGHTLY CANDLE SIZED FLAME AT SCDS ATTACHED TO MASTER CYLINDER BROKE OUT. FIRE GREW AFTER HOOD OPENED. BRAKE FLUID RESEVOIUR WAS ON FIRE. SMOTHERED FIRE WITH TOWELS. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO GAS STATION. DROVE AROUND HOME SLOWLY WITH BRAKES THAT STILL REMAINED ON. BOUGHT NEW MASTER CYLINDER FOM JUNK YARD.*AK....AKSO, CRUISE CONTROL WAS MELTED. *AK
WHILE PARKED CRUISE CONTROL FAILED AND VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. *AK
VEHICLE SURGED WHILE BEING PARKED IN THE GARAGE AND AGAIN IN A PARKING LOT. THE RPM GAUGE WENT BEYOND NORMAL RAMIFICATION. AFTER CONTACT WAS MADE WITH THE MANUFACTURER THEY AGREED TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE SINCE IT WAS A CONTINUOUS PROBLEM. *AK PROBLEM CAN NOT BE DETECTED. *TC
A FEW WEEKS BACK, I NOTICED A SLIGHT TICKING SOUND. IN CHECKING INTO THIS, IT WAS THOUGHT TO BE A LIFTER OR ROCKER ARM. TWO WEEKS AGO WHILE TRAVELING ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 55 MPH, I BLEW THE #4 PLUG RIGHT OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO SUTTON FORD IN MATTESON, IL, WHERE I WAS QUOTED A PRICE OF $3668 PLUS TAX TO FIX THE ENGINE. THIS IS LUDICROUS! I AM EXPECTED TO PAY THIS MUCH MONEY FOR A FORD DESIGN ISSUE! I CAN GET ANOTHER ENGINE FOR SLIGHTLY MORE THAN THAT! HECK, I CAN GET A DECENT COMMUTER CAR FOR THAT MUCH MONEY! IN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A SOMEWHAT COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORDS TRITON ENGINES. I ALSO FOUND AN ALTERNATIVE METHOD OF FIXING THE ENGINE WHICH ONLY COST ME $350, OF WHICH $300 WAS IN THE COST OF THE TOOLS. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT FORD WILL NOT ADMIT TO THIS ENGINEERING DESIGN PROBLEM AND ASSIST THOSE OF US WHO HAVE LOYALLY SUPPORTED THEM FOR YEARS. I GUESS IF PEOPLE ARE NOT DYING, IT IS JUST SEEN AS AN EASY WAY TO OVERCHARGE PEOPLE AND MAKE EXTRA MONEY VIA THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENTS!*AK
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT AN ABS BRAKE PROBLEM. THE WARNING LIGHT KEPT COMING ON. ALSO, TIE ROD ENDS WERE DEFECTIVE. CONSUMER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM THE FORD MANUFACTURER TO HAVE THE TIE ROD ENDS CHECKED. CONSUMER HAD TO PAY FOR THIS SERVICE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. 42,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. *AK
PARKED VEHICLE AT AROUND 8:00PM AT AROUND 11:00PM HEARD A LOUD BOOM. LOOKED OUT AND SAW TRUCK ON FIRE. THE FIRE WAS COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE TIRE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WAS BURNED WORSE THAN THE PASSENGER SIDE. PRIOR TO FIRE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAD CRUISE CONTROL BUT HAVE NEVER USED IT NOT EVEN ONCE. HAVE PHOTOS OF TRUCK WILL SEND TO BRUCE YORK. *JB
WHILE DRIVING IN LOW SPEEDS IN 2-WHEEL DRIVE TIE ROD SNAPPED. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING. THE DEALERSHIP WILL BE NOTIFIED. *AK *SC
THERE ARE NO EVENTS THAT INDICATE ANYTHING IS WRONG UNTIL THE ENGINE HAS NO POWER AND RUNS ROUGH. A COIL PACK FAILURE ON # 8 CYLINDER ON 11/14/05. A COIL PACK FAILURE ON # 6 CYLINDER ON 12/05/05. A COIL PACK FAILURE ON # 1 CYLINDER ON 12/15/05. ALL INCIDENTS SHOW A MISFIRE ON A PARTICULAR CYLINDER. CORRECTION TO THE PROBLEM IS TO HAVE A COIL PACK INSTALLED ALONG WITH A SPARK PLUG. DEALER SUGGESTS REPLACEMENT OF ALL COIL PACKS. *JB

MY CLIENT DETECTED BLINKING IN THE CRUISE CONTROL OF HIS FORD 150 TRUCK IN AUGUST 2004 AND INFORMED THE DEALER. LATER THAT MONTH THE FUSE BURNED OUT. IN OCTOBER 2004 HIS VEHICLE BURNED TOTALLY WHILE PARKED AT HIS HOME AFTER MIDNIGHT. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE STATE POLICE WERE CALLED. FORD CREDIT DEMANDED VEHICLE BE PAID IN FULL EVEN THOUGH HEY KNEW BY NOVEMBER OF THE RECALL.MY CLIENTS NAMES ARE CARLOS ANDUJAR AND MARIO SIERRA OF MANAT, PUERTO RICO
REAR BRAKE CALIPERS SEEMS TO LOCK AND DRAG WHEN IT RAINS. *AK
CRACK IN THE METAL IN THE DRIVER DOOR AT THE REAR OF THE WINDOW ON MY 2000 F-150. FORD HAS A TSB BUT BECAUSE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY, FORD WILL NOT REPAIR THE DOOR. *NM
THE HOOD LATCH WOULD NOT LATCH AFTER OPENING THE HOOD. DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER A RECALL. *AK
HAD FOUR NEW TIRES PLACED ON MY F150. WHEN THE RIGHT REAR TIRE WAS REMOVED, THE TECH NOTICED DIFFERENTIAL FLUID AND SAID THAT THE REAR RIGHT AXLE SEAL WAS BLOWN. PARTS REQUIRED TO FIX ARE THE BEARINGS, BRAKE REASSEMBLY, NEW REAR AXLE, AND EMERGENCY BRAKE PADS. *NM

PARKED THE VEHICLE IN GARAGE AT 6:30 PM. AT 7:00 PM HEARD A LOUD POPPING NOISE FROM GARAGE. OPENED DOOR AND SAW FLAMES AND SMOKE. THE FLAMES WERE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR. THE FIRE APPEARS TO HAVE COME FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE. INSURED BY ALLSTATE MARGARET DANIELLS 281-618-5306. PRONET INVESTIGATED THE FIRE CONTACT ABBY DAVID 800-216-7268. THREE MONTHS PRIOR TO THE FIRE HAD GONE TO BANK AND THE ELECTICAL CONTROLS WERE GOING CRAZY AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING. HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER WHO SAID THEY REPLACE THE BATTERY. THE CONSUMER DID NOT REMEBER USING THE CRUISE CONTROL AND DO NOT KNOW IF IT WORKED. FIRE SPREAD TO THE HOUSE. *TC
