I HAVE 2001 FORD F150. TRITON V8 ENGINE. DRIVING UNDER VERY LIGHT LOAD, GOING 35 MPH THE NUMBER 1 CYLINDER SPARK PLUG SHOT OUT AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE THREADS. *TR
STRAPS THAT SECURE FUEL TANK TO VEHICLE FAILED DUE TO RUST . THIS ALLOWING FUEL TANK TO FALL FROM VEHICLE WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION . UPON CONTACT WITH THE ROAD SURFACE TANK DEVELOPED A HOLE ALLOWING ABOUT 16 GALS OF FUEL TO CONTACT THE ROAD SURFACE AND PUBLIC SEWER . FIRE DEPT WAS CALLED ALONG WITH MARYLAND DEPT OF ENVIRONMENT AND CLEAN UP BEGAN . I WAS BILLED FOR THE COST OF THE CLEAN UP .
2001 FORD F-150 BLEW OUT A SPARK PLUG FOR THE 2ND TIME. CAUSED THE TRUCK TO GO OFF THE ROAD SINCE IT IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER WHILE GOING 65MPH. THIS IS THE 2ND ONE THAT HAS BLOWN AND WILL LIKELY COST A FEW THOUSAND DOLLARS TO FIX. THERE IS A FORUM ON CONSUMER AFFAIRS WITH HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM WITH THEIR FORD VEHICLE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE RPMS WOULD INCREASE EXCESSIVELY IN COLDER WEATHER, USUALLY ABOUT 15 DEGREES. WHEN THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR, THE VEHICLE WOULD ABNORMALLY ACCELERATE WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING. THE FAILURE RECURRED FIVES TIMES. THE CONTACT HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 158,000. DRIVING MY FORD 2001 F150 IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHEN A LOUD BANG UNDER FROM MY HOOD AND RENDERED MY VEHICLE USELESS AND A MAJOR TRAFFIC HAZARD AS I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE WITH CARS AND DUMP TRUCKS SWERVING AROUND ME TO PASS BY ME .THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS AND COMMON PROBLEM THAT IS HAPPENING TO MANY FORD OWNERS THAT HAVE THE TRITON ENGINES. SPARK PLUG BLOWOUT FORD 4.6 ENGINE AND COIL DAMAGE. *TR
DRIVING 35 TO 40 MILES AN HOUR. HEARD A LOUD POP UNDER THE HOOD PULLED OVER AND FOUND A SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN OUT OF THE ENGINE. NOT FIXED YET. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F150. WHILE ENTERING A PARKING SPACE THE VEHICLE RAPIDLY ACCELERATED BACKWARDS. EVEN AFTER REPEATED BRAKE APPLICATION THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. SHE ATTEMPTED TO MOVE FORWARD, BUT THE VEHICLE RAPIDLY ACCELERATED FORWARD. SHE REMOVED THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION TO STOP THE VEHICLE. CONSEQUENTLY, SHE CAUSED DAMAGE TO SIX PARKED VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE HCU ABS BRAKE SYSTEM AND THE IAC. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
I HAVE A FORD F-150 2001 WITH TRITON 5.4 V8 I STARTED MY TRUCK AND HEARD A LOUD POP AND THEN WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A VERY BAD EXHAUST LEAK. COME TO FIND OUT THE BACK SPARKPLUG ON PASSENGER SIDE BLEW OUT. I HAD TO HAVE A NEW COIL NEW PLUG AND HELICOIL INSTALLED. *TR
I OWN A 2001 FORD F 150 W/ THE 5.4 TRITON ENGINE, WHILE I WAS BACKING THE TRUCK OUT OF A RESTAURANT, THE ENGINE MADE A LOUD POP. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A FORD DEALERSHIP...THEY TOLD ME THAT THE ENGINE BLEW THE # 3 SPARK PLUG OUT. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE MOTOR BECAUSE OF BAD DESIGNED HEADS. THEY ADVISED ME THAT I WOULD BE BETTER OFF WITH A NEW ENGINE AT THE COST OF $4800.00. I PULLED UP A SITE ON THE INTERNET THAT STATES THAT THERE HAVE BEEN THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS. I FEEL LIKE FORD SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ON THIS ENGINE. *TR
MY WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING TO FLORIDA FROM NORTH CAROLINA. I HAVE A 2001 FORD F150 5.4 TRITON. A LOUD POP, AND THE SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE HEAD, TAKING THE COIL WITH IT. VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR. THIS IS A WIDELY REPORTED PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL AND IS AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURER DEFECT DUE TO INSUFFICIENT THREAD DEPTH IN THE HEAD. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F150. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH AND HEARD A LOUD, ABNORMAL NOISE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND NOTICED THAT THE SPARE TIRE THAT WAS MOUNTED UNDER THE TRUCK HAD DETACHED FROM THE CARRIAGE AS A RESULT OF A FRACTURED CABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE SEATBELT BUCKLES WOULD UNLATCH INDEPENDENTLY. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 70 MPH IN THE RAIN, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE DRIVER NOTICED A FLAME IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE BEFORE IT BECAME COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. ANOTHER DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE HAS NOT YET BEEN DETERMINED. THE CONTACT DOES NOT KNOW IF HER VIN IS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 110,000.
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AND HEARD A LOUD BANG AND FELT THE MOTOR STARTING TO SHAKE AND LOSS OF POWER TO THE VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION, I HAVE NOTICED THE COIL PACK OF MY 2001 FORD F-150 SITTING ON TOP OF THE MOTOR. I HAVE REPLACED TWO COIL PACKS TWICE EACH. IT IS GETTING COSTLY TO REPAIR AS IT COSTS $50 PER COIL PACK. I HAVE RETAPPED THE HOLES BUT THE PROBLEM KEEPS OCCURRING. I AM A DIVORCED FATHER OF A 2 YEAR OLD SON. I CAN'T AFFORD TO KEEP REPAIRING THE PROBLEM. *TR

HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THEY STATED THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND PASSENGER SIDE BOLTS IN THE ENGINE HAD EXCESSIVE RUST. IN ADDITION, THE INTAKE MANIFOLD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $600. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 71,000.

I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 5 WHEN THERE WAS A LOUD POP FOLLOWED BY RAPID POPPING FROM THE ENGINE. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A FLAT AND PULLED ONTO THE SHOULDER, BUT THE NOISE CONTINUED EVEN THOUGH I WAS STOPPED. I OPENED THE HOOD AND AT FIRST (BASED ON THE SOUND) THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. I WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER WHERE THE PROBLEM WAS DETERMINED TO BE A BLOWN SPARK PLUG WHICH HAD STRIPPED THE PLUG'S THREADS. THE DEALER INSERTED A HELI-COIL AND AFTER A TOW, AN OVERNIGHT STAY AT A NEARBY MOTEL, 5 HOURS OF WAITING THE NEXT DAY AND $415 IN REPAIRS I WAS BACK ON THE ROAD. I HAVE SINCE DONE SOME INTERNET SEARCHING AND HAVE COME TO FIND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THE TRITON ENGINE AND HAS BEEN SO FOR SEVERAL YEARS DUE TO INSUFFICIENT MATERIAL AND THREADS. *TR
MATCHING NHTSA RECALL ID: 01V258000 SNOW ON WINDSHIELD, ATTEMPTED TO USE WIPERS BUT IMMEDIATELY SHUT THEM OFF SINCE THEY DID NOT MOVE. WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR CAUGHT FIRE AND PRODUCED A LARGE AMOUNT OF SMOKE WHICH FILLED THE CAB AND ALSO CAME OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AND FIRE AND SMOKE CLEARED ON ITS OWN. SNOW WAS REMOVED BY HAND FROM WINDSHIELD. VEHICLE WAS PLACED BACK IN THE ON POSITION (BUT NOT STARTED) AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD NOT TURN OFF EVEN IN THE OFF POSITION. FUSE WAS PULLED TO TURN THEM OFF. WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR WAS REPLACED BUT WAS NOT COVERED BY A RECALL PER THE DEALERSHIP. MY VEHICLE IS FROM THE KANSAS CITY PLANT - WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR PART NUMBER: F6DU-17B571-AB DATED: 06/12/0000:11:12N12V. *TR
TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY DUE TO CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH THAT WAS ON RECALL LIST. I KNEW NOTHING OF THE RECALL UNTIL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THAT WAS WHAT HAPPENED. *TR
THROTTLE STICKS AFTER STEADY DRIVING IN COLD/SNOW BECAUSE OF FORD'S POOR DESIGN, THEY EVEN STATE IT IN FORD ARTICLE NO. 01-21-5. HAS HAPPENED MAY TIMES TO ME. I JUST FINALLY GOT AN ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM. THE FIX IS OVER 500.00, AND I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY. IT IS THEIR POOR DESIGN, THIS JUST DOES NOT SEEM FAIR. YESTERDAY I NOTICED ONE TIRE WAS FLAT - TRIED TO PUT AIR INTO IT AND IT WOULDN'T TAKE THE AIR. WHEN I CRAWLED UNDER MY TRUCK I NOTICED THE INSIDE WALL OF THE TIRE HAD DRY ROTTED. *TR
ON 10/5/08, DRIVING NEAR HOME, SLOW SPEED, HEARD A LOUD NOISE FROM UNDER THE HOOD, LOST POWER. DETERMINED THAT THE 4TH SPARK PLUG ON DRIVERS SIDE HAD UNTHREADED FROM ENGINE, DAMAGING COIL. ON ATTEMPT TO REPLACE WITH NEW SPARK PLUG, LEARNED THAT THE CYLINDER HEAD THREADS WERE DAMAGED (STRIPPED). 76,000 MILES, SPARK PLUG HAD NEVER BEEN REMOVED, WAS ORIGINAL FROM FORD FACTORY. *TR

MY 2001 FORD F-150 BLEW A SPARK PLUG OUT OF THE 7 HEAD ON 09/30/2008. THE TRUCK HAS 150K ON IT. I BOUGHT IT NEW IN 2001 AND HAVE ALWAYS MAINTAINED IT. I WENT OUT TO GO TO WORK IN THE AM AND THE TRUCK JUST ROARED WHEN I STARTED IT, I FOUND THE SPARK PLUG ON THE DRIVEWAY THE THREADS ON THE PLUG WERE COMPLETELY IN TACT. TOOK IT FORD SERVICE AND IT WILL COST ME $2500.00 TO FIX WITH NO GUARANTEE. I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A REALLY COMMON COMPLAINT FROM OWNERS OF V8 TRITON ENGINES. FORD NEEDS TO DO A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES. MY BROTHER-IN-LAW IS AN ASI FRONT END MECHANIC FOR FORD AND HE SAYS HE HAS SEEN A LOT OF THIS PROBLEM. IF HE DIDN'T LIVE IN DENVER I WOULD HAVE HIM FIX IT. MY FAMILY HAS ALWAYS DRIVEN FORD PRODUCTS. MY FATHER WAS AN ENGINEER FOR FORD IN DETROIT. BUT, I FEEL THAT BECAUSE FORD WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THIS PROBLEM THAT MAYBE IT IS TIME TO SWITCH LOYALTIES. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP DISPLAYS A SO- WHAT ATTITUDE. WHAT GOOD IS IT TO RESPOND TO A RECALL OF A F150 CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS AND YOU HAVE TO MAKE 3-4 TRIPS TO GET THE WORK DONE. I OWN A 2001 FORD F-150 CREWCAB I WENT TO WORK I PARKED I CLOCKED IN @ 3PM BY 6:37 MY TRUCK WAS ON FIRE IT WAS PARKED FOR 3.5 HRS BEFORE IT STARTED TO BURN. *TR
MY 2001 FORD F150 BLEW A SPARK PLUG RIGHT OUT OF THE ALUMINUM HEAD ON 8-17-08. VEHICLE HAD ABOUT 90,000 MILES ON IT. IT IS A COMMON AND REPEATING FAILURE OF THE 5.4L V-8 ENGINE AND FORD WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE IT AS A PROBLEM. I OPTED FOR THE HELICOIL REPLACEMENT OPTION ($640) OVER A COMPLETE NEW HEAD ($3000). FORD WILL NOT PAY FOR ANY OF THIS EVEN THOUGH IT IS THEIR DESIGN FLAW. LATER MODELS HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. IF IT WAS NOT A PROBLEM THEN WHY WAS IT CORRECTED? *TR

VEHICLE IN QUESTION IS A 2001 FORD F150. AS THE TRUCK WAS TRAVELING AT 20 MPH, THE BRAIDED STEEL CABLE THAT RETAINS THE SPARE TIRE IN THE REAR UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK BROKE. INVESTIGATION ON WEB FORUMS HAS INFORMATION THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE TRUCKS THAT ARE EXPOSED TO WINTER SALT, THE SALT HAS CAUSED CABLES TO CORRODE IN NUMEROUS TRUCKS. IF THIS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY, IT EASILY COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATHS. *TR

WE OWN A MOTOR HOME, BUILT ON A FORD INCOMPLETE VEHICLE CHASSIS, POWERED BY A FORD V-10 TRITON ENGINE. THE FIRST ENGINE BEGAN TO SPIT OUT SPARK PLUGS AFTER REACHING 75,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THIS OCCURRED ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 27, 2006, ABOUT FORTY MILES EAST OF KINGMAN, ARIZONA. AFTER SPENDING MONEY TO GET THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED AT A GOODYEAR DEALERSHIP IN KINGMAN, ARIZONA, WE HAD TO ORDER A SPECIAL REPAIR KIT FROM BARIL ENGINE REBUILDING COMPANY IN GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN, PAYING FOR THE SHIPPING BOTH WAYS. A MECHANIC RESLEEVED THE CYLINDER. AS I HAD TO MAKE A SPEAKING ENGAGEMENT, WE HAD TO DRIVE FOR CLOSE TO 1,000 MILES WITH WRETCHED FUMES AND HORRID NOISE. THE SECOND SPARK PLUG WAS SPIT OUT ON FRIDAY, FEBURARY 10, 2007. AS I HAD ANOTHER SPEAKING ENGAGEMENT, WHICH IS HOW I MAKE MY LIVING, WE HAD TO DRIVE TO PENSACOLA, FLORIDA, AND THENCE LAFAYETTE, LOUISIANA, BEFORE ANOTHER REPAIR KIT WAS RENTED TO BE USED BY YET ANOTHER MECHANIC. THE THIRD SPARK PLUG WAS SPIT OUT TWO WEEKS LATER, ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2007, AS WE WERE DRIVING FROM PENSACOLA TO LAFAYETTE. WE RENTED THE TOOL KIT FROM BARIL ENGINE REBUILDING COMPANY ONCE AGAIN. THIS ORIGINAL FORD V-10 TRITON ENGINE DIED ON THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 2007, ON INTERSTATE 80/94 JUST EAST OF MILE MARKER 160. TWO CYLINDERS HAD LOST COMPRESSION ENTIRELY. NO ONE AT TERRY FORD LINCOLN MERCURY IN PEOTONE, ILLINOIS, COULD EXPLAIN WHY THIS HAD HAPPENED. WE HAD TO RAISE $9,000 TO PAY FOR A NEW ENGINE AND ITS INSTALLATION. THE ENGINE HAD BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. THE REPLACEMENT ENGINE HAS ALSO BEEN MAINTAINED WELL. DESPITE THIS FACT, HOWEVER, THE ENGINE SPIT OUT ITS FIRST SPARK PLUG, JUST 19,000 MILES AND THIRTEEN MONTHS, EIGHT DAYS AFTER ITS INSTALLATION, AN INCIDENT THAT OCCURRED THIS AFTERNOON, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 3, 2008, AT EXIT 22 OF THE NEW YORK STATE THRUWAY IN SELKIRK, NEW YORK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-150. ON JUNE 2, 2008, AFTER BEING DRIVEN FOR NINE HOURS, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE PARKED IN THE CONTACT'S DRIVEWAY. HE NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE AND NO PREVENTIVE REPAIRS WERE MADE IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE. PRIOR TO THE FIRE, THE CRUISE CONTROL HAD STOPPED WORKING. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 180,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 177,000.

THE FAILURE RECURRED AT 11,000 MILES AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED HIM TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
ON THE EVENING OF 5-26-08 MY SON RETURNED FROM WORK @ 11:00 PM. AT 11:28 PM MY NEIGHBOR WAS BANGING ON MY DOOR YELLING FIRE. WHEN I WENT OUTSIDE I COULD SEE THAT MY 2001 FORD F150 TRUCK ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. I RAN OUTSIDE AND STARTED PUTTING OUT THE FIRE WHILE MY NEIGHBORS DAUGHTER CALLED 911. THE FIRE DEPT. CAME OUT AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE FOLLOWING WEEK I CONTACTED FORD CONSUMER LINE AND WAS INFORMED BY A LADY NAMED MELANIE THAT FORD DID NOT HAVE ME LISTED AS THE OWNER OF THE TRUCK AND THAT SHE WOULD FORWARD MY INFO TO THE CLAIMS DEPT. THE NEXT WEEK I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THAT BECAUSE FORD HAD SENT ME 5 RECALL LETTERS THAT THEY DID NOT FEEL RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING. THE PROBLEM I HAVE IS THAT I NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECALL LETTERS AND HOW COULD THEY SEND ME THEM IF I DID NOT SHOW UP ON THEIR RECORDS AS BEING THE REGISTERED OWNER. *TR
