TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F150 SUPER CREW. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE PARKED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND STATED THAT THE FIRE EXTENDED FROM CRUISE CONTROL MODULE TO THE MASTER CYLINDER. THE FIRE DESTROYED THE VEHICLE. A FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT IS AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 75,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F150. ON MAY 19, 2008 AFTER BEING PARKED FOR TWELVE HOURS, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE. A WEEK AFTER THE FIRE, MAY 26, 2008 THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE FIRE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY THE CRUISE CONTROL BEING WIRED THROUGH THE BRAKES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. IN JANUARY I HAD DRIVEN MY F150 TO THE STORE, WHEN I RETURNED TO IT IN THE PARKING LOT AND STARTED IT I HEARD A LOUD POP FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THIS SOUND WAS FOLLOWED BY A LOUD BACKFIRING SOUND UPON ADDING A FEW RPM'S TO THE ENGINE. I SHUT IT OFF TO INSPECT AND DISCOVERED THE FAR REAR SPARK PLUG HAD BEEN SHOT CLEAR OUT OF THE HEAD AND WAS LYING LOOSE INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE SPARK PLUG AND THE HEAD EACH HAD ENOUGH THREADS LEFT FOR THE PLUG TO RESET. THE COIL WAS DAMAGED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THREE DAYS AGO (5/18/08) I STARTED THE VEHICLE AGAIN HEARD THE SAME POP AND THE SAME BACKFIRE SOUND. UPON INSPECTION THIS TIME I FOUND THAT ALTHOUGH THE PLUG HAD NOT COME OUT OF THE HEAD THIS TIME IT WAS CLEARLY LOOSE. THERE ARE NO LONGER USABLE THREADS ON EITHER THE HEAD OR THE PLUG AND I HAVE BEEN QUOTED $2500 (DISCOUNTED RATE) TO REPAIR A VEHICLE THAT HAS ONLY 78000 MILES ON IT AND THAT I OWE $16000 AND CAN'T EVEN TRADE IN NOW. I HAVE DONE EXTENSIVE RESEARCH AND HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON COMPLAINT WITH THE FORD TRITAN V8 ENGINE AND THAT FORD HAS NOT CHOSEN TO REMEDY THIS DEFECT. *TR
I HAVE A 2001 F-150 TRITON 5.4 LITER FORD WITH 85,000 MILES ON IT -- IT BLEW OUT THE NUMBER 3 CYLINDER SPARK PLUG STRIPPING THE THREADS AND BREAKING THE COIL PACK. I HEARD A TICKING SOUND FOR A FEW WEEKS PRIOR AND HAD IT CHECKED AT A SHOP AND THEY THOUGHT IT WASN'T A BAD PROBLEM -- 3 DAYS LATER IT BLEW OUT THE PLUG. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE BECAME HESITANT TO ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. REAR SEATBELT BUCKLES, (CENTER AND PASSENGER REAR) BROKE AFTER MY SON TRY TO PUT HIS SEAT BELT ON. FIRST IT WAS THE CENTER SEATBELT BUCKLE AND A FEW WEEKS LATER THE REAR PASSENGER SEATBELT BUCKLE BROKE TOO. WHEN MY SON TRY TO PUSH IN THE SEATBELT THE BUCKLE STAYED PUSHED DOWN AND DOES NOT SPRING UP. *TR
4 MONTHS AGO SPARK PLUG #3 UNEXPECTEDLY "LEFT THE ENGINE" DESTROYED THE COIL-ON-PLUG AND STRIPPED THE CYL. HEAD. ~2500 MILES LATER #6 PLUG AND COIL....SAME THING. *TR
2001 FORD F-150 FLEETSIDE INVOLVED IN A NEAR HEAD ON COLLISION. AIRBAGS FAILD TO DEPLOY.

I HAVE A 2001 FORD F 150 W/A TRITON V8 ENGINE. IT BLEW A PLUG OUT AND FORD KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM AND WON'T FIX THE ISSUE. I AM HAVE TO PAY $1,000.00 TO REPAIR AN ENGINE THAT IS DEFECTIVE RIGHT OFF THE FACTORY FLOOR. I HAVE DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH AND THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND SOME HAVE CAUGHT FIRE. 2001 F150 CAUGHT FIRE UNDER HOOD WHILE SITTING IN DRIVEWAY. COMPLETELY DESTROYED. 8 DAYS LATER I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL. HAD VERY FEW PAYMENTS LEFT. I HAD AROUND 18,000.00 INVESTED IN THE VEHICLE. THIS MAKES ME SICK. *TR
BLOWN SPARK PLUG ON 5.4L, NUMBER 3. THREADS WERE COMPLETELY REMOVED. COIL WAS DAMAGED. *TR
DURING NORMAL DRIVING THE SPARK PLUG IN CYLINDER #3 BLEW OUT OF THE CYLINDER. THIS DISABLES THE VEHICLE. SPARK PLUG EJECTION IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE FUEL VAPOR STARTS COMING OUT THE SPARK PLUG HOLE, WHICH IS CLEARLY A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THE FUEL VAPOR CAN BE IGNITED BY THE EJECTED SPARK PLUG. THE SPARK PLUG WAS THE ORIGINAL INSTALLED IN THE ENGINE FROM THE FACTORY. THE BLOW OUT DAMAGES THE SPARK PLUG HOLE THREADS AND IT ALSO DAMAGED THE COIL PACK. REPAIR IS VERY EXPENSIVE AND REQUIRES A TECHNICIAN TO TAP A NEW HOLE AND PLACE A THREADED INSERT IN IT. THE PROBLEM IS THESE TYPE OF REPAIRS ARE NOT USUALLY RELIABLE. *TR
RECALL ID NHTSA: 01V227001 - SEAT BELT BUCKLE COMES UNDONE WHILE DRIVING - I BROUGHT MY 2001 FORD F150 INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO REPAIR THE SEAT BUCKLE WHICH PERIODICALLY CAME UNDONE WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALERSHIP "INSPECTED" THE BUCKLE AND SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE BUCKLE. THE SEATBELT BUCKLE CONTINUES TO SPONTANEOUSLY BECOME DISCONNECTED WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK MY F150 INTO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY TO HAVE IT ACTUALLY REPAIRED. FORD WOULD NOT FIX THE SEAT BUCKLE SINCE IT HAD ALREADY BEEN "INSPECTED." BOTTOM LINE, I FEEL THAT FORD SHOULD REPAIR THE FAULTY SEAT BUCKLE. *TR

ON MARCH 31, 2008, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: CRUISE CONTROL, WHICH SUGGESTED HE SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE RECALL WORK PERFORMED. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 127,000.

PASSENGER SEAT BELT LOCKS FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER. PASSENGER MUST UNLATCH BELT, LET IT GO ALL THE WAY BACK IN, THEN PUT IT BACK ON IN ORDER TO "RESET" THE LOCK. *TR

MY 2001 F-150 HAD #4 CYLINDER SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT. ACTUALLY MELTED THE METAL PORTION OF THE SPARK PLUG. I HAVE 56,000 MILES ON MY TRUCK. SALES MAN TOLD ME THE TRUCK DID NOT REQUIRE ANY TYPE OF TUNE UP UNTIL 100,000 MILES. I GUESS HE WAS WRONG. *TR
IN MARCH 08, MY F150 4.6L ENGINE BLEW A SPARK PLUG...FUEL WAS CLOSE TO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. I WAS VERY CONCERNED THAT IT WOULD IGNITE, SO I REMAINED CLEAR OF THE VEHICLE FOR QUITE SOME TIME, GIVING THE FUEL TIME TO EVAPORATE. THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM, PLEASE STEP UP AND DO WHAT IS RIGHT. '99 - '08 FORD 5.4L V8'S ARE EQUIPPED WITH 100,000 MILE SPARK PLUGS FROM THE FACTORY. THEY ARE FAILING IN LARGE NUMBERS AT WELL UNDER 50,000 MILES. MOST TIMES PULLING THE THREADS OUT OF THE ALUMINUM HEADS OF THE MOTOR. OTHER TIMES THE SPARK PLUGS BREAK LEAVING PART OF IT IN THE BLOCK. MY PROBLEM WAS THE #7 PLUG BREAKING IN HALF WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. WHEN I TOOK MY '01 F-150 SUPER CREW TO THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULDN'T REPLACE THE REST OF THE SPARK PLUGS BECAUSE THEY WOULD PROBABLY STRIP THE THREADS OUT OF THE HEADS WHEN THEY REMOVED THEM. *TR
HAD MINOR TICKING NOISE - WAS TOLD THIS IS TYPICAL IN THIS FORD ENGINE. 16 MONTHS AGO I HAD THE DEALER REPLACE THE SPARK PLUGS, TICKING WAS STILL THERE, AND JUST LAST WEEK ONE OF THE PLUGS BLEW OUT OF THE HEAD. LUCKILY NO ACCIDENT OR INJURY. THIS COULD BE QUITE DANGEROUS HAVING A PLUG SPARKING WITH FUEL VAPORS ESCAPING FROM THE HOLE WHERE THE PLUG USED TO BE. AFTER TALKING TO A NUMBER OF F150 OWNERS - FOUND THIS IS A RATHER COMMON PROBLEM. WHY NO RECALL? DEALER INSTALLED SPACER INSERT RATHER THAN HELICOIL. RATHER EXPENSIVE REPAIR, AND IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN, WILL NEED NEW HEAD. *CN

A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THEY NO LONGER HAD THE RECORDS FOR HIS VEHICLE AND COULD OFFER NO ASSISTANCE. I WAS WOKEN UP BY SOMEONE KNOCKING ON MY APARTMENT DOOR TO LET ME KNOW THAT MY TRUCK WAS ON FIRE. I ATTEMPTED TO PUT THE FIRE OUT BY FILLING COOKING PANS WITH WATER AND DOUSING THE FLAMES BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE FIRE DEPT ALONG WITH THE POLICE SHOWED UP AND THE FRONT PART OF THE TRUCK IS ALL BURNED UP. *TR
RECALL FOR 05S28 SPEED CONTROL DEVICE, CAR BURST INTO FLAMES UNDER THE HOOD, ENGINE BURNED, CAR TOTALED - RECALL NOTIFICATION WAS NOT RECEIVED BY ACTUAL VEHICLE OWNER. FORD MOTOR CO. SAID LETTERS WERE MAILED ON 10/05, 11/06 AND 12/07. I WAS NOT THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE UNTIL 6/06 AND I NEVER RECEIVED THE MENTIONED 1/07 LETTER. CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALER TWICE (AFTER PURCHASED) TO DO THE OIL/FILTER CHANGE AND I WAS NEVER INFORMED ABOUT THE RECALL. *TR
WE HAVE HAD THREE INCIDENTS INVOLVING TWO VEHICLES IN WHICH WHEELS HAVE COME OFF OF FORD F-550 VEHICLES DUE TO SHEARED LUG BOLTS. THE WEIGHTS OF ALL OF OUR VEHICLES HAVE BEEN RECORDED AND FALL BELOW THE MANUFACTURERS GVWR. PER A TIRE COMPANY'S RECOMMENDATION, WE HAVE ISSUED A MANDATE THAT ALL SIMILAR VEHICLES HAVE THEIR WHEELS RE-TORQUED, TO MEET THE MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATIONS AFTER DRIVING, AFTER TRAVELING 50 MILES FOLLOWING ANY WORK DONE ON THE WHEELS. WE HAVE HAD THE WHEELS ON VEHICLE THAT DID NOT COME OFF INSPECTED AND CHECKED TO PROPER TORQUE FOLLOWING ALL INCIDENTS AND THEY HAVE BEEN TORQUED APPROPRIATELY. THE INCIDENT DATES WERE, 12/29/07 ,02/15/08, AND 07/17/08 . ON 12/29/07 AN EMPLOYEE WAS DRIVING UP A ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 20 M.P.H. WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE BACK DUAL WHEELS CAME OFF DUE TO BROKEN LUG BOLTS. THIS WAS A NORMAL USE OF THE VEHICLE ON A WELL-MAINTAINED DIRT ROAD. ON 02/15/08 TWO EMPLOYEES WERE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 84 TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 M.P.H. WHEN THE REAR PASSENGER WHEELS CAME OFF THE VEHICLE AND PASSED THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY TRAVELING MILE. THE STUDS WERE ALSO SHEARED OFF IN THIS INSTANCE. THE INTERSTATE WAS IN GOOD CONDITION AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. IT WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT THE TIRES DID NOT STRIKE ANOTHER VEHICLE. ON 07/17/08 AN EMPLOYEE WAS DRIVING ON OREGON STATE HIGHWAY 82 AT APPROXIMATELY 55 M.P.H. WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE REAR WHEELS CAME OFF. THE WHEELS STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE DAMAGING THAT VEHICLE?S BRAKE SYSTEM. IN THIS CASE, A FATALITY COULD HAVE EASILY OCCURRED TO THE OTHER DRIVER. THAT DRIVER?S NAME IS: KEITH CULIVER - 740 11TH AVENUE NORTH, PAYETTE, ID (WORKING FOR TNT FOREST PRODUCTS). WE HAVE REPLACED THE LUG BOLTS ON ALL OF OUR FIVE VEHICLES IN THIS CLASSIFICATION AS AN ATTEMPT TO AVOID FURTHER PROBLEMS. HOWEVER, ONE ACCIDENT OCCURRED FOLLOWING THIS REPLACEMENT. *TR

DROVE MY FORD F150 TO WORK, PARKED IT AND 30 - 40 MINUTES LATER THE ENTIRE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS ON FIRE. I ENTERED THE TRUCK 30 MINUTES AFTER I PARKED TO REMOVE MY CHECK BOOK, BUT I DID NOT SEE OR SMELL ANYTHING THAT RESULTED IN THE FIRE. THE TRUCK WAS NOT INSURED, BUT APPEARS TO BE A TOTAL LOSS. *TR

WELL MAINTAINED AND NO GOOD REASON FOR THIS. FORD F150XLT 2001 4.2L ENGINE. SEVERAL MECHANICS HAVE NOW TOLD ME THIS IS COMMON FOR THIS ENGINE. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH IN A PARKING GARAGE, THE CONTACT STRUCK A LIGHT POST. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK AND THE VEHICLE SPED ACROSS THE PARKING LOT AND STRUCK ANOTHER POST. HE ATTEMPTED TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
EMISSIONS LIGHT WENT ON AND OFF AND THE CAR SEEMED TO MISFIRE. DID NOT DRIVE SMOOTH. I WAS GLAD I WAS CLOSE TO HOME. I FELT THE CAR WOULD CONK OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING. *TR

ON NOVEMBER 7TH I WAS INSPECTING MY BRAKES AND FOUND THAT ALL THE RUBBER SEALS IN THE FRONT END WERE WORN OUT OR BETTER STILL THE RUBBER WAS CRUMBLEY AND NO GREASE REMAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING WITH THE WIPERS ON SLOW SPEED. SMOKE BEGAN TO COME OUT OF THE VENT BETWEEN THE WINDSHIELD AND THE HOOD. THE PLASTIC VENT BURST INTO FLAMES AND MELTED. THE FLAMES WERE EXTINGUISHED WITH MINIMAL DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THE WIPERS ARE THE ONLY THING THAT DOESN'T OPERATE NOW. *TR

THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS DISCONNECTED BY FORD DEALERSHIP IN OCTOBER OF 2007 BECAUSE OF RECALL. THEY SAID IN DECEMBER THAT I SHOULD HAVE NEW PARTS READY FOR INSTALL ON MY 2001 FORD VAN. THIS IS MARCH OF 2008 AND NO ONE CAN TELL WHEN THIS PART WILL BE REPLACED. I FELL LIKE I HAVE PAID FOR THE COMFORT OF CRUISE CONTROL AND DO NOT HAVE IT. I FELL LIKE I CANT SELL VAN WITH A DEFECTIVE PART OR CRUISE UNPLUGGED. HOW LONG DOES FORD HAVE TO REPAIR THIS PART. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F150. IN 2002, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER REGARDING A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT NEED TO BE REPAIRED AT THAT TIME. ON OCTOBER 18, 2007, THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF THE CONTACT'S HOUSE AFTER A SHORT TRIP. ONE HOUR LATER, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY IS CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING THE FIRE. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 120,000.
