I HAD BOUGHT A USED 2002 FORD EXPLORER XLT A FEW MONTHS AGO AND NOTICED A LOT OF HORIZANTAL CUTS ON THE SIDEWALLS OF THE MICHELAN TIRES ON THE VEHICLE. AFTER LOOKING ON THIS WEB SITE AND NOTICED A RECALL FOR THE FORD THAT I OWNED ( NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID # 01V171000 ) AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP NEAR ME. THEY SAID THEY HAD NO RECALL IN THEIR SYSTEM FOR MY VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH MY FORD WAS MADE AT THIS LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY PLANT AT THE TIME SPECIFIED ON THIS RECALL. I EVEN CALLED THE FORD COMPLAINT LINE AND THEY AS WELL SAID NOTHING WAS IN THEIR SYSTEM? IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO REMEDY THIS SITUATION, IT IS DEFINITELY A TIRE DEFECT AND THE FORD STILL HAS PLENTY OF TREAD LEFT; JUST KIND OF WORRIED FOR MY SAFETY? THEY WOULDN'T EVEN INSPECT IT FOR POSSIBLE PROBLEMS WITH THE TIRES.*AK
THE CABLE THAT ATTACHED THE SPARE TIRE TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK BED SNAPPED. WE LOST THE SPARE TIRE. WE THINK IT FELL ON THE HIGHWAY THOUGH WE COULD NOT FIND IT.
SPARK PLUG BLOWN.I HAD THE # 3 CYLINDER COIL AND FUEL INJECTOR REPLACED EARLIER.DEALER THOUGHT IT ODD BOTH WERE GONE ON THE SAME CYLINDER. I WAS DRIVING AT LESS THAN 15 MPH WHEN IT HAPPENED.FORD HAS A PROBLEM WITH BLOWN SPARK PLUGS,THEY SHOUD BE LIABLE FOR ANY REPAIRS.*AK
THE WIRE THAT WAS CONNECTED TO ABS PUMP MOTOR BECAME CORRODED. AS A RESULT, THE ABS SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED. THE CAUSE HAS YET TO BE DETERMINED. *AK
ACCORDING TO DETROIT'S WXYZ NEWS REPORTER, STEVE WILSON, MY 2002 EXPLORER SPORT TRAC HAS THE SAME FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH THAT THE RECALLED FORD'S HAVE AND THE ONES YOU ARE NOW EXAMINING. I'M NOT HAPPY TO KNOW THAT I HAVE THAT SWITCH AND WANT IT REPLACED, TOO. I HAVE DISCONNECTED IT AND FEEL CHEATED THAT I CAN NOT USE AN EXPENSIVE AND CONVENIENT ITEM LIKE THAT. I FELT AS IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING IN A FIRE TRAP IF I DIDN'T HAVE IT DISCONNECTED. PLEASE HELP ME OUT HERE! THANK YOU, BJBAUER
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD POP COMING FROM THE ENGINE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR SERVICE, AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT. *AK
I HAD TAILGATE WINDOW REPLACED DUE TO A "RECALL" WHEN WE PICKED IT UP TODAY, FROM THE DEALERSHIP- FORD OTTAWA IL THE REAR TAILGATE( NEXT TO THE FORD OVAL ) WAS CRACKED 8 INCHS. THE DEALERSHIP SWEARS THAT THIS WAS THERE WHEN WE BROUGHT IN THE TRUCK AND REFUSES TO ADMITT FAULT. T HIS TRUCK HAD NO CRACK BEFORE IT WENT IN FOR THE FIX. *AK
I PURCHASED A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR 4 DOOR VAN, AND UPON IMPACT OF CRASHMY FRONT AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THIS IMPACT WAS AT 50-55MPH. I WAS TOLD THE REASON MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY WAS DUE TO MY SEATBELT LOCK WHICH BROKE FROM THE IMPACT. ALSO NOW MY TRANSMISSION IS STALLING AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE MADE BUT THEY SAY NO RECALLS HAVE BEEN MADE ON THIS PROBLEM EITHER, BUT ACCORDING TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY IT IS A PROBLEM NOT ONLY WITH MY VEHICLE BUT SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED TOO.
HEARD BANGING IN REAR OF TRUCK,MOSTLY WHILE BACKING UP AND TURNING TO LEFT AT FIRST. HEARD LOUD BANG WHILE PULLING INTO GAS STATION,THEN WHEN I DROVE AWAY,FELT DRAGGING,STILL NOT SURE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS,TILL I GOT HOME WHILE BACKING INTO A PARKING SPOT,HEARD THE LOUD BANG AGAIN. AFTER SOME IVESTIGATION,DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE DIFFERENTIAL. HAD TO HAVE TRUCK TOWED TO DEALER,AND THEY FOUND BROKEN SPIDER GEARS IN THE DIFFERENTIAL. DEALER REPLACED PARTS. SATTISFIED WITH REPAIR.*AK
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK IN MY 2002 FORD F-150 TRUCK WHEN I HEARD A LOUD BANG UNDER THE HOOD FOLLOWED BY A POPPING SOUND AND A LOSS OF POWER. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AT THE NEXT OPPORTUNITY TO INSPECT UNDER THE HOOD. SEEING NOTHING EVIDENT I TOOK THE CAR HOME AT AN EXTREMELY REDUCED SPEED WHERE I LEFT THE VEHICLE UNTIL I COULD TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT A SPARK PLUG HAD COME LOOSE AND THE HOT GASES LEAKING BY IT RUINED THE COIL AND HEAD AND NEEDED REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD 31,800 MILES ON IT AND WAS 2 WEEKS OUT OF WARRANTY.*AK
A CAR MADE AN ILLEGAL LEFT TURN IN FRONT OF ME, I HIT THAT CAR DOING ABOUT 55 MPH, AFTER THAT IMPACT THE TRUCK SWERVED TO THE RIGHT. AND I HIT ANOTHER CAR STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. MY QUESTIONS IS WHY DIDN'T MY AIR BAGS DEPLOY. AFTER DOING $12000. DAMAGE AND FORD IS WANTING TO TOTAL MY TRUCK. *JB
THE REAR GLASS OF MY FORD EXPLORER XLT 2002 "EXPLODE" WHEN THE GLASS WAS ATTEMPT TO BE CLOSED. PIECES OF GLASS TRAVELED ABOUT 10 FEET FROM THE ORIGIN. NO ONE WAS INJURED. THE GLASS WAS COMPLETELY BROKEN WITHOUT AN APPARENT REASON. NOW I CAN NOT USE MY CAR DUE TO THE BROKENGLASS. A REPORT WAS FILLED WITH THE LOCAL POLICE IN ORDER TO MAKE A REPORT TO THE CAR INSURER. A NEW GLASS WILL BE BOUGHT AND THE PRICE IS ABOUT $1300 AND THE HALF REAR DOOR NEED TO BE PAINTED AT ABOUT $150 USD.*AK
WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, A LOUD POP CAME FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE ENGINE STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. PULLED OVER TO CHECK UNDER HOOD AND DISCOVERED A SPARK PLUG WAS BLOWN OUT OF THE ENGINE HEAD. HEAD NEEDS REPLACEMENT.*AK
THE LIFTGATE MOLDING DEVELOPED A CRACK SEVERAL INCHES LONG AFTER OWNING THE VEHICLE FOR 2 1/2 YEARS WITH ROUGHLY 55,000 MILES. A RECALL NOTICE WAS RECEIVED DEALING WITH THE LIFT GATE WINDOW,BUT, THE RECALL DIDN'T INCLUDE THE CRACKED MOLDING. I HAVE NOTICED MANY EXPLORERS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. I ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO HAVE THE RECALL WORK COMPLETED, BUT MY FORD DEALERSHIP WAS NOT WILLING TO FIX THE LIFT GATE UNTIL I AGREED TO HAVE THEM PERFORM OTHER VEHICLE MAINTENANCE TO THE TUNE OF OVER $400. I FEEL THIS IS MORE OF A FORM OF BLACKMAIL THAN KINDNESS. I FEEL THIS LIFT GATE IS A FAULTY PRODUCT AND I SHOULDN'T HAVE HAD TO PAY THE "EXTRA" MONEY TO HAVE THE GATE MOLDING FIXED. I DO BELIEVE THE RECALL ON THE LIFT GATE WINDOW AND THE FAULTY MOLDING ARE CONNECTED. AFTER THE RECALL WINDOW WAS REPAIRED AND BEFORE THE MOLDING WAS REPLACED, THERE WAS A CONSTENT RATTLE DUE TO THE CRACKED MOLDING. *AK
SPARE TIRE CABLE FAILED WHILE DRIVING. SPARE TIRE FELL OFF TRUCK, DO NOT KNOW WHEN, BUT NOTICED WHEN FLAT TIRE OCCURRED AND SPARE WAS GONE, CABLE FRAYED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT OF ASSEMBLY AND SPARE TIRE PLUS WHEEL AS ORIGINAL WAS NOT RECOVERED. UNKNOWN WHETHER ANY DAMAGE TO OTHERS RESULTED FROM SPARE TIRE FALLING FROM TRUCK. THIS IS A TREMENDOUS SAFETY HAZARD AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS AND THIS TYPE OF OCCURRENCE COULD CAUSE A CATASTROPHIC CRASH.*AK
THE PLASTIC MOLDING AROUND THE REAR LIFTGATE WINDOW HAS A CRACK IN THE PLASTIC MOLDING. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THIS CONDITION MAY LEAD TO THE GLASS FALLING OUT. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *JB
SHIMMY / BAD VIBRATION AT 50+ MPH. HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR AWHILE - GOTTEN NEW TIRES AND WHEELS, BALANCE/ROTATE, NEW BRAKES AND THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT A NEW CONTROLLER ARM OR SOMETHING...DID SOME RESEARCH AND IT SEEMS THIS IS COMMON FOR THIS TRUCK AND FORD NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT? QUALITY ISSUES AND NO CONCERN FOR PEOPLE'S SAFETY...NICE. HAVE HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY MANY TIMES BECAUSE OF THIS - GUESS PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE IN ORDER FOR FORD TO TAKE NOTICE. SALES DOWN DUE TO CUSTOMER DISSATISFACTION AMONG OTHER THINGS... *TR
WHILE PARKED IN A WORK YARD VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CAUSE HAS YET TO BE DETERMINED. *AK
THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 2002 EXPLORER STARTED SHUDDERING WHEN GOING UP HILLS, WHEN PASSING CARS, AND THERE IS A DELAY WHEN SHIFTING TO REVERSE. WHEN TRYING TO GET INTO REVERSE THERE IS ALSO VERY ROUGH SHIFTING WITH THE DELAY. THESE PROBLEMS STARTED AT ABOUT 45,000 MILES. *JB
(1) TRUCK'S BED SPREADING APART AND IGNITION/WIRING SHORTAGE (2) THE BED OF MY TRUCK HAS SPREAD APART FOR NO REASON AT ALL. I CANNOT EVEN SHUT MY TAILGATE. MY TRUCK'S BATTERY CONTINUES TO RUN DOWN. WHEN I TURN ON MY TRUCK, THE STARTER DOESN'T WANT TO STOP. A LIGHT DISPLAYS, "DOOR OPENED!" THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. THE MUSIC GOES ON AND OFF. (3) I TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE DEALER TO GET THE BED FIXED. THEY SET ME AN APPOINTMENT. I MADE ANOTHER TRIP OVER AN HOUR ONE WAY TO GET FIXED AND THEN THEY DIDN'T FIX. MY WARRANTY HAS JUST RECENTLY RAN OUT. I AM HAVING SEVERAL PROBLEMS AND DON'T KNOW WHAT IS THE MATTER. I HAVEN'T HAD NO LUCK WITH TALKING WITH A FORD MECHANIC. THE WIRES IN THE STEERING COLUMN LOOKS TOO TIGHT OR LOOSE. THERE IS A CONSTANT BUZZING SOUND. MY CLOCK AND MILEAGE READINGS ERASES. MY WINDOWS STOP WORKING. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN I PLACE THE TRUCK IN DRIVE. MOST OF THE TIME EVERYTHING STARTS WORKING ONCE PLACED IN PARK. I ONLY HAVE CLOSE TO 70,000 MILES. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MONTHS.*AK
DRIVING AT SLOW SPEED ON GRAVEL ROAD, LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE, SWERVED TO THE RIGHT, WAS ABLE TO STOP VEHICLE, FOUND LEFT REAR WHEEL HAD COME OFF, LEFT REAR AXLE SHAFT BROKEN AT WHEEL. NO VEHICLE DAMAGE, DID NOT CONTACT ANYTHING. AXLE JUST BROKE. *AK

COMPLAINT REGARDING THE CERTIFICATION LABEL FOR 2002 FORD F150.***TRANSFERRED TO OVSC***. *MR THE CERTIFICATION LABEL WAS LOCATED ON THE LEADING EDGE OF THE HALF DOOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, HOWEVER THE CONSUMERS SON HAD AN ACCIDENT WITH THE VEHICLE AND THE DOOR HAD TO BE REPLACED AND SINCE THEN THE CONSUMER HAS BEEN HAVING DIFFICULTY GETTING A DUPLICATE CERTIFICATION LABEL. *JB
I BROUGHT THE TRUCK ON JUNE 1, 2004. A FEW MONTHS AFTER I BROUGHT THE TRUCK IT STARTED GIVING ME PROBLEMS. I TRIED TALKING TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT THEY WERE NO HELP AT ALL. I HAVE TRIED TALKING TO THEM PLENTY OF TIMES. I HAVE TOOK MY TRUCK TO AN MECHANIC AN THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM . I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO THE DEALERSHIP IS NO HELP AT ALL. THEIR WARRANTY POLICY IS A FRAUD THEY DO NOT KEEP UP WITH IT. I AM TIRED OF THIS SITUATION. THAT'S THE REASON I WANT TO CANCEL THE PURCHASE OF THIS CAR. *JB
VEHICLE BLEW OUT A SPARK PLUG, RESULTING IN FUEL GOING INTO THE CYLINDER UNBURNED. THEN IT WASHES DOWN, PASS THE RINGS INTO THE CRANK CASE, WHICH COULD CAUSE A FIRE OR AN EXPLOSION . PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY TRUCK'S ENGINE. THIS WAS AT LOW RPM AND THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 28,000 MILES ON IT. HAVE LEARNED THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES. DEALER FIXED BECAUSE STILL UNDER WARRANTY, BUT FREQUENCY INCREASES AS MORE MILES ARE ACCUMULATED. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR. *JB
SAW TV NOTE ON DAIMLER-CHRYSLER RECALL RE: BALL JOINTS. MY WIFE HAS A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH A GM F-150 (INDEPENDENTLY VERIFIED BY A MECHANIC AS EXCESSIVE WEAR FOR 20,000 MILES AND IS ALREADY MAKING THE NOISE CHRYSLER SAYS IS A WARNING)--BUT DEALER SAYS IT'S WITHIN SPECS, AND GM SAYS IT WON'T GO AGAINST DEALER. NEW HUSBAND IS VERY WORRIED FOR HIS WIFE GIVEN THAT BALL JOINT IS ALREADY AT THE STAGE THAT IS QUOTED AS "CONSUMER WOULD HAVE WARNING BECAUSE OF NOISE"--YET NO REPAIR OFFERED OR EVEN THOUGHT NEEDING FURTHER REVIEW.*AK
THE TRUCK HAD A HEATING SYSTEM FAILURE. THE DOOR LOCATED IN THE HEATING UNIT (THAT OPENS AND CLOSES WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS ADJUSTED) BECAME STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION WHICH ALLOWED ONLY COLD AIR TO ENTER THE AIR VENT. THE CONSUMER HAD TO TURN OFF THE HEAT SYSTEM TO PREVENT HYPERTHERMIA. AS A RESULT THE DEFOGGER SYSTEM COULDN'T BE USED WHICH CAUSED POOR VISIBILITY. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE DOOR AND OTHER COMPONENTS. *NM THE DEALER ALSO REPLACED THE TEMPERATURE POTENTIOMETER AND ACTUATOR. *NM *TC
WHILE DRIVING. IN A 45 MILE SPEED ZONE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE HAD A HEAD-ON COLLISION. DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. CONSUMER SUSTAINED NECK INJURIES. *AK. POLICE REPORT AND PICTURES OF COLLISION ENCLOSED. *AK
2002 FORD F150 CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE PARKED.***NO ANSWER REQUIRED***. *MR TWO VEHICLES WERE PARKED IN THE CAR PORT. THE FIRE MAY HAVE BEEN DUE TO A DEFECTIVE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH. MODEL/LARIAT *SC *JB
MY 2002 F150 SUPERCREW [XXX] IS GETTING THE 3RD IGNITION COIL REPLACED. 1ST TIME @ 26,000 MILES, 2ND @ 46,000 MILES, AND NOW @ 59,000. EACH TIME TOMBALL FORD HAS REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AND THE LAST TWO TIMES I HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS ARE SO WARPED THAT WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE SHAKES, AND THE VEHICLE IS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. OWNER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER , AND WAS INFORMED THAT WHAT THE DRIVER WAS EXPERIENCING WAS NORMAL. *AK
THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE CLUTCH WAS APPLIED DURING VARIOUS SPEEDS OF 0-45 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER WAS LEAKING FLUID. *JB
VEHICLE LOST MOTION INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING 0-40 MPH AND WHEN THE CLUTCH WAS BEING ENGAGED. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO FOUND THE CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER WAS LEAKING FLUID. *AK
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STALLED. CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO RESTART VEHICLE, AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE BATTERY AN BATTERY CABLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
WINDSHIELD WIPERS CAME ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER WAS AWARE THAT THIS WAS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. *AK
SPARK PLUG BLOWN OUT OF HEAD . NEW HEAD NEEDED $2500 REPAIR. *JB
I OWN A 2002 FORD F150 SUPER CREW PICKUP TRUCK. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THIS TRUCK IT DEVELOPED A LEAK IN THE WINDSHIELD. THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AND WAS LEAK FREE FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS. THE LEAK RETURNED AND DURING SOME HEAVY RAIN STORMS I HAVE HAD CHRONIC ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS DUE TO WATER LEAKING IN THE WINDSHIELD AND RUNNING DOWN BEHIND THE DASHBOARD AND GETTING INTO THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS. I HAVE HAD THE INTERIOR LIGHTS COME ON WITH NO ONE IN OR NEAR THE TRUCK. AT THE SAME TIME, SOME OF THE DASH INDICATOR LIGHTS WERE ON VERY DIM. I HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO GET THE LIGHTS TO TURN OFF. I RAN THE HEAT IN THE TRUCK FOR A FEW HOURS TO DRY IT OUT AND IT SEEMED TO TEMPORARILY CURE THE LIGHTING PROBLEM. I ALSO HAD A PROBLEM STARTING THE TRUCK IN THE RAIN. I TURNED THE KEY TO THE START POSITION AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I GOT IN THE TRUCK THE NEXT DAY AFTER THE RAIN STOPPED AND IT STARTED WITHOUT A PROBLEM. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A LOCAL GLASS SHOP AND HAD SOME SEALER PUT ON THE TOP RIM OF THE WINDSHIELD TO TRY AND STOP THE LEAK. IT DID NOT WORK. I WAS TOLD BY THE GLASS SHOP THAT THE ONLY WAY TO SEAL THE WINDSHIELD PROPERLY WAS TO REPLACE IT DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE WINDSHIELDS NOW ARE GLUED IN AND THE GLUE IS WHAT SEALS THEM. I AM RELUCTANT TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD AGAIN BECAUSE THE FIRST REPLACEMENT WINDSHIELD DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I MAY SPEND SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS ON A NEW WINDSHIELD AND STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
THE SUPPORT CABLES THAT RETAINED THE TAILGATE CORRODED. THE CONDITION CAUSED THE TAILGATE TO DROP. *JB. ON JUNE 3, 2005 TOM BOWMAN (ODI) CONTACTED THE OWNER TO REVIEW THE ABOVE REPORT. THE OWNER ADVISED THAT HIS COMPLAINT WAS INTENDED TO ADDRESS THE SPARE TIRE SUPPORT CABLE RATHER THAN THE TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLE REPORTED ABOVE.
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STALLED. CONSUMER NOTICED THAT ALL THE ELECTRICALLY COMPLIENCES FAILED. TO COME ON ITS OWN. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC STATED THAT THE PROBLEM COULD NOT DUPLICATED. *AK
SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF CYLINDER ON MY TRITON 5.4L FORD F150 LIGHTNING TRUCK. 900 MILES AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED. FORD DEALER QUOTED $3,100 TO REPLACE CYLINDER HEAD WITH A 50% GOODWILL DISCOUNT. IN MY SEARCHES ON THE WEB THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. VERY COMMON ON THEIR V10 DIESEL ENGINES FORD DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT A DEFECT EXISTS.
2002 FORD F150 CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. *MR THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED THEN APPROXIMATELY THIRTY MINUTES LATER, THE HORN BEGAN TO HUNK AND THE CONSUMER HAD COME OUTSIDE AND FOUND THE VEHICLE ENGULFED IN FLAMES IN THE CAB PORTION OF THE VEHICLE. *SC *JB
I AM THE OWNER 2002 FORD EXPLORER THAT I PURCHASED FROM METRO MOTORS OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS IN AUGUST 2002. ON SEPTEMBER 17, 2004, WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHEEL DETACHED COMPLETELY FROM THE AXIS OF THE VEHICLE. I DROVE OFF FROM THE STOP LIGHT. WHILE I WAS ACCELERATING I FELT THE STEERING WHEEL TURN SHARPLY TO LEFT AND THE WHEEL BUCKLE. A FEW MINUTES LATER, I FELT A TUG ON THE STEERING WHEEL, AND THEN I FELT THE WHEEL BUCKLE. THE VEHICLE CRASHED TO SUDDEN STOP. I EXITED THE VEHICLE AND SAW THAT THE FRONT DRIVER''S SIDE WHEEL WAS COMPLETELY DETACHED AND NOTICED THE WHEEL WAS ROLLING DOWN FROM THE POINT OF WHERE THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THE WHEEL STOPPED ABOUT TEN FEET TO FIFTEEN FEET (10 FT. TO 15 FT.) AWAY WITH THE ENTIRE DRUM ASSEMBLY AND WHEEL STILL ATTACHED. I HAVE ALSO BEEN NOTIFIED BY SEVERAL OTHER FORD EXPLORER OWNERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR DEFECT. THE LATEST OCCURRED IN MIAMI, FLORIDA ON SEPTEMBER 23, 2004 WITH THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT WHEEL DETACHING FROM THE AXIAL AND FLIPPING THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY INJURING THREE (3) AND ONE (1) OTHER DIED. THEY WERE DRIVING IN A FORD EXPLORER. A SIMILAR INCIDENT OCCURRED DECEMBER 2002 IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA WHEN A FAMILY OF FIVE FLIPPED IN A FORD EXPLORER KILLING THREE KIDS AND HER HUSBAND LOST AN EYE. ANOTHER INCIDENT OCCURRED JUST FOURTEEN (14) DAYS AFTER WITH A FORD ESCAPE WITH THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHEEL DATACHING FROM THE VEHICLE. SINCE WRITING MY COMPLAINT TO ALL FORD OFFICES, SEVERAL OTHER AUTOMOBILE COMPANIES HAVE RECALLED SUVS FOR DETACH OF FRONT LEFT WHEEL (DODGE, HUMMERS, GMC, ETC.) LICSENCING AND CONSUMER OFFICE HAS ALSO PROVIDED INDEPENDENT MECHANICS WHO'S INSPECTION REPORTS STATE THAT THE VEHICLE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINT DETACHED WHICH CAUSED THE ENTIRE WHEEL TO DETACH. I SUBMITTED A POLICE REPORT STATING THE DAMAGES TO THE VEHICLE WAS NOT CAUSED BY COLLISION TO ANOTHER VEHICLE OR PROPERTIES.
DRIVING DOWN HWY 35W SOUTH BOUND BY LAKEVILLE, MINNESOTA. I HEARD SLIGHT GRINDING NOISE FROM FRONT END. I BRAKED AND SLOWED DOWN AND TOOK IMMEDIATE EXIT FROM FREE WAY ON EXIT RAMP. WHILE I ENTERED EXIT RAMP THEN FRONT END OF MY 2002 FORD F150 FX4 DROPPED TO THE PAVEMENT AND TIRE BLEW. UPON INSPECTION THE FACTORY ALUMINUM RIM HAD SPLIT IN TWO CAUSING THE TIRE TO BLOW. *JB
SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE HEAD. I HEAR THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY TIMES TO MENTION. I HAVE A 2002 HD - F-150 WITH 45,000 MILES ON IT.*AK
CONSUMER COMPLAINED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT FLASHED WHILE DRIVING. TWO DEALERS WERE NOTIFIED. FIRST DEALER INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE TERMINAL CONNECTOR TO THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE SECOND DEALER CLAIMED THAT THE PROBLEM PERTAINED TO A LOOSE TERMINAL CONNECTION TO THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER SENSOR. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH VIBRATION CAME FROM THE FRONT. CONSUMER STOPPED THE VEHICLE, AND FOUND TWO SPOKES OF RIGHT WHEEL BROKE . DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER INDICATED TO THE CONSUMER THAT WARRANTY EXPIRED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH THERE WAS A LOUD POP FROM THE COMPARTMENT. CONSUMER PROCEEDED TO PULL OF THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE POP NOISE STARTED GETTING WORSE. VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP, WHO INDICATED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER HEAD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE SPARK PLUG SPLIT OFF THE HEAD. *AK
PASSENGER DOOR WOULD OPEN WHILE VEHICLE WAS MOVING. *PH THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE VIBRATED WHILE DRIVING. THE CONSUMER MOTHER-IN-LAW FELL WHILE TRYING TO GET INTO THE FRONT PASSENGERS SIDE DOOR OF THE TRUCK. THE BRAKES WOULD LOCK UP INTERMITTENTLY. *NM
CONCERNS WITH BLIND SPOTS ON RIGHT SIDE WHERE THE MIRROR AND HANDGRIP ARE IN A LINE AS WELL AS LOCATION OF THE BRAKE AND GAS PEDALS. *MR THIS SEEMED TO BE A FACTOR IN SEVERAL TRAFFIC INCIDENTS, THE CONSUMER HAD SEVERAL EMERGENCY STOPS SEVERAL TIMES IN WHICH THE CONSUMERS FOOT HAD COME DOWN ON THE BRAKE AND GAS PEDALS AND SEEMED TO ONLY HAPPEN IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS WHEN THE CONSUMERS FOOT WOULD SHOOT DOWN. *SC *JB
