VEHICLES MISFIRING AND STUMBLING DURING MODERATE ACCELERATIONS AND CRUISING WHEN A LOAD IS PUT ON MOTOR. ( GOING UP A HILL, SLIGHT INCLINE AND PASSING). SPARK PLUGS WERE UNABLE TO BE REMOVED FOR REPLACEMENT. THE SPARK PLUGS WERE NOT OF GOOD QUALITY AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED MORE OFTEN THAN USUAL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE, HOWEVER NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. $1249.00 TO CHANGE ONE SPARK PLUG. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ON THE VEHICLE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE SPARK PLUGS WERE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000.
2006 FORD F-150. CONSUMER REQUESTS REIMBURSEMENT FOR VEHICLE REPAIRS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS QUOTED A PRICE OF $447 TO REPLACE THE SPARK PLUGS. HOWEVER, WHEN HE RECEIVED THE BILL, THE PRICE HAD DOUBLED.
WENT TO BACK UP AND NO REVERSE. *TR
FORD HAS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE 2006-2008 F150. THEY HAVE FAULTY SPARKPLUG THAT WHEN THEY NEED CHANGEDIRECTIONS SNAP. THIS RESULTS IN THEM HAVING TO RETAP THE MOTOR AND PUT DIFFERENT SPARK PLUGS IN WHICH THEY CHARGE $400/SPARK PLUG THAT SNAPS. THE PART THAT SNAPS FALLS INTO THE MOTOR THAT'S WHICH IT IS SO EXPENSIVE. FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THE PROBLEM FOR YEARS BECAUSE THEY MADE SURE TO GET NEW SPARK PLUGS AS SOON AS THERE WERE ISSUES. NUMEROUS PEOPLE INCLUDING MYSELF HAVE CALLED FORD AND COMPLAINED BUT THEY NEVER DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I HOPE THAT YOU WILL. *TR
WHILE REPLACING THE SPARK PLUGS, EVERY PLUG BROKE OFF AND WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO REMOVE. MY MECHANIC GOT OUT THE FIRST SEVEN, BUT THE EIGHTH WOULD NOT COME OUT. IT SUBSEQUENTLY FELL INTO MY ENGINE, CAUSING IT TO SEIZE. I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN ANOTHER 100,000 MILES OUT OF THIS TRUCK! *TR
DRIVING EAST ON I90 (ABOUT 20 MILES WEST OF STEWARTVILLE, MN) DURING FREAK MAY BLIZZARD. DUE TO ROAD CONDITIONS, COULD ONLY DRIVE BETWEEN 15-40 MPH. SUDDENLY THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING. I WAS ABLE TO START IT UP AGAIN AND DRIVE ABOUT 3 MINUTES AND THEN IT WOULD DIE AGAIN. THERE WAS NO PLACE TO PULL OVER, AS THE SHOULDERS OF THE ROAD WERE NOT CLEARED AND THERE WAS 12" OF WET HEAVY SNOW. MY TRUCK IS NOT 4WD SO WE WOULD HAVE GOTTEN STUCK. WE HAD TO DRIVE WITH THE HAZARDS ON, BUT IT WAS LOW VISIBILITY AND WE COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND. WE COULD NOT GET OFF ON THE EXIT RAMP BECAUSE A SEMI TRUCK JACKNIFED AND THE EXIT WAS CLOSED. WE HAD TO CONTINUE THIS HAZARDOUS JOURNEY TO THE NEXT EXIT, WHICH WAS ABOUT 12 MILES AWAY, TO STEWARTVILLE, MN. WE FOUND A AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC SUSPECTED IMMEDIATELY THAT IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE. HE SAID THAT HE HAS BEEN INSTALLING A LOT OF THESE LATELY ON F150S, ESPECIALLY 2006'S. HE SAID HE FELT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL, AS IT IS WELL-KNOWN AMONG MECHANICS THAT THESE ARE FAILING AT AN ALARMING RATE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE MODULE IS LOCATED TIGHT AGAINST THE FRAME, NEXT TO THE SPARE TIRE, AND THE METAL OF THE MODULE (ALUMINUM) REACTS ADVERSELY WITH THE STEEL METAL OF THE FRAME, CAUSING OXIDATION BETWEEN THE TWO. THIS CAUSES THE MODULE TO BREAK AND FAIL, THUS SHORTING OUT THE CIRCUIT BOARD. FORD KNOWS THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM, AS THE REPLACEMENT PARTS HAVE SPACER PLATES TO KEEP THE MODULE & FRAME SEPARATED. FORD SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS PART BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. WE COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN KILLED, AS WE COULD NOT PULL OFF THE INTERSTATE. THE PART IS RELATIVELY INEXPENSIVE (WE PAID $189 FOR THE PART). WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED OF THIS ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SHUT OFF WHENEVER THE TEMPERATURE WAS ABOVE 70 DEGREES. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT IT WOULD RETURN TO NORMAL ONCE THE TEMPERATURE WAS COOLER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 114,000. *TR
THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AT 35 MPH AND SIMPLY STOPPED RUNNING. VEHICLE COULD NOT BE RE-STARTED. TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC TESTED THE FUEL SYSTEM AND DETERMINED THE FUEL PUMP HAD BURNED OUT. THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $552.05. ONE DAY AFTER REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ACTIVATED AND THE CODE REVEALED A FUEL SYSTEM ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS IMMEDIATELY TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME REPAIR SHOP. THE FUEL PRESSURE WAS OPERATING AT 90 PSI. AFTER SEVERAL UNSUCCESSFUL VISITS, IT WAS EVENTUALLY DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE WAS SEVERELY CORRODED AND MALFUNCTIONING. THE "POT" METAL HAS BEEN COMPLETELY CORRODED AND THERE IS AN APPROXIMATE 1 INCH DIAMETER HOLE LEADING DIRECTLY TO THE ELECTRIC PANEL. THE CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED FOR AN ADDITIONAL $399.89. THE DESIGN OF THIS MODULE USING "POT" METAL AND SIMPLY BOLTING TO THE STEEL AXLE IS RIDICULOUS. THIS ITEM SHOULD BE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL WITHIN THE "SALT BELT" AREAS OF NORTH AMERICA. I HAVE DOCUMENTED RECEIPTS FROM THE REPAIR SHOP AND HAVE KEPT THE ORIGINAL FUEL MODULE AS WELL. FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD RECOGNIZE THIS ISSUE AS AN OBVIOUS RE-CALL ITEM AND BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSOCIATED REPAIR BILLS. *TR

AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AS HAVING A FAULTY FUEL PUMP AND/OR FAULTY FUEL DRIVER MODULE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103,000.

I RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED BUT THE BODY WAS IN GREAT CONDITION AND IT RAN GOOD ON THE TEST DRIVE. AFTER THREE DAYS I NOTICED A FUEL SMELL IN THE CAB AND WHEN OVERTAKING A VEHICLE IT STARTED MISS FIRE. FORTUNATELY THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM HAD ME TAKE IT TO THE MECHANIC HERE IN TOWN WHO SAID THAT IT WAS THE NUMBER FIVE IGNITION COIL WHICH HE REPLACED. THE NEXT DAY THE PROBLEM CONTINUED SO I TOOK IT BACK AND IT WAS THE SPARK PLUGS WHICH HE REPLACED (400.00) BUT IT RAN WELL. I DROVE IT TO PA. AND BACK WITH NO PROBLEM BUT YESTERDAY THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AND NOW IT IS COIL NUMBER 2 (73.00). THE MECHANIC WHO HAS BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR 28 YEARS IN OUR FARM TOWN IN WHICH HE SERVICES NUMEROUS FORD TRUCKS SAID THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH FORDS FROM THE COILS TO THE ILL DESIGNED SPARK PLUGS. NOW THAT I HAVE READ THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WHICH ARE SYNONYMOUS WITH MY PROBLEM INCLUDING THE FUEL SMELL MAKES ME WONDER IF THE NHTSA IS ON THE TAKE FROM FORD TO OVERLOOK CERTAIN PROBLEMS. I THINK THAT I WILL USE SOME OF MY WELL CONNECTED FRIENDS IN CONGRESS TO LOOK INTO THIS IF I DO NOT GET A SATISFACTORY ANSWER TO THIS ISSUE. *TR

TRUCK KEEPS SHUTTING OFF. IF YOU WAIT 45 MINUTES TO RESTART IT WILL START AND IDLE FOR ABOUT 15 SECONDS AND SLOWLY DIE. OR YOU CAN DRIVE A SHORT DISTANCE AND IT WILL DIE. REPAIR IS FOR THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE. BECAUSE OF WHERE IT IS MOUNTED ON THE TRUCK IT CORRODES VERY FAST ESPECIALLY IN SNOW STATES DUE TO THE SALT ON ROADWAYS. THE RIGHT EXHAUST MANIFOLD STUDS HAD BROKEN APPROXIMATELY 5/5/2012, IN WHICH THEY DID NOT TELL ME THE FULL EXTENT OF THE DAMAGES. THEY JUST TOLD ME THE MANIFOLD WAS LEAKING AND THE COST TO REPAIR IT. THIS CAUSED THE MANIFOLD TO WARP AND LEAK. THE DEALER WOULD NOT REPAIR IT UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR LATER I CALLED THE WARRANTY COMPANY AND FOUND OUT IT WAS ACTUALLY COVERED. WHEN I HAD TAKEN IT IN, IN MAY 2012 THE DEALER WANTED TO CHARGE 1500.00 FOR THE REPAIRS. THE REPAIRS WERE FINALLY MADE IN MAY OF 2013 TO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD, BUT NOT TO THE CATALYTIC.CONVERTER WHICH STARTED CAUSING PROBLEMS IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR. THIS LEAK MAY HAVE CAUSED THE RIGHT CATALYTIC CONVERTER TO FAIL ALSO, BUT HAVE FOUND MANY FORUMS STATING THAT FAILURE OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS ARE A COMMON PROBLEM ON THESE PICK UPS. AT THIS TIME I AM DRIVING THE PICK UP AND IT THROWS THE CODE P0420, FOR CATALYTIC CONVERTER BELOW EFFICIENCY THRESHOLD. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD ALSO BE FORWARDED TO THE E.P.A. BECAUSE PEOPLE CANNOT AFFORD TO REPLACE THEIR CATALYTIC CONVERTERS AT THE PRICE OF 1200.00 PER SIDE. IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD F-150'S THIS NEEDS ADDRESSED. ALSO THE FAILURE OF THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD IS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT COULD CAUSE THE OCCUPANTS IN THE CABIN TO BE EXPOSED TO CARBON MONOXIDE. THE LEAKING MANIFOLD ALSO CONFUSES THE COMPUTER BY TELLING IT THAT THE OF BANK CYLINDERS IS RUNNING TO LEAN IN RESPONSE TO THOSE READINGS IT THEN ADDS FUEL TO THAT BANK WHICH CAUSES IT TO RUN RICHER ON THAT BANK THAN IT SHOULD. I BELIEVE THAT THIS CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER MAKING IT FAIL PREMATURELY. *TR

THEN WHILE DRIVING, AS TRUCK SHIFTED DOWN TO OVERDRIVE, NOISE RETURNED, LOSS OF POWER, BUT AGAIN NO SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT, GAUGES ALL NORMAL. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, HAVE BEEN TOLD, ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED,(81,250 MILES/130,000KM) FOR A MEAGER $6000. VEHICLE HAS BEEN DEALER MAINTAINED SINCE NEW, OIL CHANGED EVERY 3125, MILES/5000KM (BY DEALER) STILL NO SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT, GAUGES STILL READING NORMAL. MANUFACTURER WILL DO NOTHING. LOOKING FOR LAWYER WHO WOULD LIKE TO START CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST MANUFACTURER, CONSIDERING ALL THE ISSUES I HAVE FOUND ON THE 2006 F150 V8 TRITON SINCE STARTING RESEARCH YESTERDAY, THERE ARE A LOT OF US THAT FORD IS NOT WILLING TO ASSIST. *TR
VEHICLE BEGAN TO SMELL LIKE GAS IN THE CAB ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. TOOK IT TO FORD DEALERSHIP MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SOURCE OF THE GAS SMELL COULD NOT BE FOUND. A FEW DAYS LATER UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, A VERY LOUD EXPLOSIVE SOUND WAS HEARD UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND TOWED BACK TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ORIGINAL #2 SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN OUT OF THE ENGINE AND DAMAGED THE HEAD. REPAIR EXCEEDING $700 WITH ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSIBILITY TAKEN BY FORD. REPEAT INCIDENT LESS THAN ONE YEAR LATER WITH ANOTHER CYLINDER. *TR
2006 F-150 FUEL CONTROL MODULE SHOULD BE A MANDATORY SAFETY RECALL FOR FORD. THE 2006 F-150 HAS A POORLY DESIGNED FUEL MODULE THAT ABSOLUTELY WILL FAIL OVER TIME IN RUST BELT STATES, PRODUCING A LOSS OF POWER, INABILITY TO START OR A COMPLETE ENGINE STALL / LOSS OF CONTROL AT ANY SPEED, INCLUDING HIGHWAY SPEEDS. MY COMPLAINT STARTS AFTER THE FIRST SNOWSTORM THIS YEAR. THE TRUCK WAS SLUGGISH TO ACCELERATE ON THE HIGHWAY AND IT SEEMED TO NEED MORE GAS PEDAL JUST TO MAINTAIN SPEED. A FEW DAYS LATER I DROVE UP HEAVILY SALTED ROADS TO A SKI AREA. AT THE END OF THE DAY, THE TRUCK WOULD NOT START WITHOUT THE GAS PEDAL BEING FULLY DEPRESSED. I FINALLY GOT IT GOING AGAIN AND IT PERFORMED OK ON THE 60 MILE HOME TRIP, SOME OF THAT AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS. THE NEXT DAY THE TRUCK WOULD NOT START AT ALL. IT WOULD CRANK, BUT NOT TURN OVER. THE SHOP I TOOK IT TO DID THE DIAGNOSIS AND IT TURNED OUT THAT IT WAS NOT BAD GAS OR A CLOGGED FUEL LINE. IT WAS A FAULTY FUEL CONTROL MODULE LOCATED ABOVE THE SPARE TIRE. THIS MODULE IS FLAWED NOT ONLY IN DESIGN BUT IN PLACEMENT AS WELL. IT IS NOT WEATHERPROOF AND NOT EVEN THE RIGHT TYPE OF METAL TO BE EXPOSED TO SALT, SAND AND WATER. IT HAS DISSIMILAR METAL FROM THE TRUSS IT MOUNTS TO, DISINTEGRATED OVER TIME AND I ALSO QUESTION FORD'S SUPPOSED FIX TO THE PROBLEM (SPACERS). I AM 6'5" AND WEAR SIZE 16 SHOES. WITH MY SIZE AND THE DISTANCE TO THE PEDAL MY LEGS GO A LITTLE TO THE SIDE AND MY SHOE IS AT AN ANGLE TO THE PETALS LETS SAY 30 DEGREES. I WEARING TYPICAL WORK BOOT (LIKE IN FORD COMMERCIALS) WHICH THE LACES HAVE PEGS THE SHOE LACES GO AROUND. THESE PEGS ARE THE SAME AS ALL WORK BOOTS (RED WINGS - $300 BOOT). WHAT HAPPENED IS BECAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS A THICK RUBBER PAD THAT STRETCHES AROUND THE METAL BRAKE PEDAL AND LEAVES A RIDGE IN THE BACK OF THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY AROUND (SO THE RUBBER FITTING GOES OVER IT LIKE A SHOWER CAP). ALSO THE TRUCK IS AN AUTOMATIC AND THE BREAK PEDAL IS VERY LARGE. WHILE BACKING UP GIVING JUST A LITTLE GAS MY BOOT SHOE LACE PEG GOT TRAPPED BEHIND THE BRAKE PEDAL AND WAS HOLDING MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL DEPRESSING IT DOWN. BECAUSE THE RUBBER RIDGE RUNS ALL THE WAY AROUND MY PEDAL (AS DESIGNED) I COULD NOT MOVE MY FOOT TO THE SIDE OF THE BRAKE PEDAL TO RELEASE THE GAS. BECAUSE OF THE THICKNESS OF MY FOOT WHEN I PRESSED THE BREAK WITH MY OTHER FOOT, IT MOVES THE GAS PEDAL DOWN AT THE SAME RATE AS MY FOOT IS TRAPPED, SO THE MORE YOU PRESS THE BRAKE THE MORE YOU GIVE GAS AT A RATIO THAT DOES NOT LET ME STOP THE VEHICLE. (NOTE I USE ONLY ONE FOOT FOR THE GAS AND BRAKE NORMALLY BUT WITH MY RIGHT FOOT TRAPPED I HAD NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO USE MY LEFT FOOT TO BRAKE AND TRY TO GET IT THE TRUCK OUT OF GEAR . I COULD NOT DO ANYTHING IN TIME AND HIT A STATIONARY BUILDING. IF SOMEONE WAS BEHIND ME, THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THE ONLY OTHER WAY I COULD HAVE GOTTEN MY FOOT LOOSE IS TO DEPRESS THE GAS PEDAL WHICH IS NOT AN OPTION IN A LOT OF SITUATIONS BECAUSE IT WOULD MAKE THE SPEED OF THE IMPENDING IMPACT FASTER AND HARDER. I WAS DRIVING TOWARDS WORK WHEN ALL THE SUDDEN THE TRUCK DIED. AFTER SAFELY PULLING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE TRUCK DID NOT START AT ALL. ACCORDING TO MY FAMILY MECHANIC, IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP. THE PASSENGER ASSIST HANDLE ATTACHED TO THE A PILLAR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE FAILED AT BOTH CONNECTION POINTS TO THE A PILLAR WHILE MY WIFE WAS ENTERING THE VEHICLE. MY WIFE WAS STANDING ON THE RUNNING BOARD AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE OF THE ASSIST HANDLE, THE HANDLE COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE AND SHE FELL OFF THE RUNNING BOARD WITH THE HANDLE IN HER HAND, LANDING ON HER BACK AGAINST A CURB IN THE PARKING LOT. THIS IS THE THIRD FAILURE OF THIS PART SINCE THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW ON 10/06/2006. THE FIRST FAILURE OCCURRED WITHIN THE FIRST 12 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP. THE SECOND FAILURE HAPPENED WITHIN THE FIRST 36 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP. AFTER EACH INCIDENT, FORD REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE PART WITH AN IDENTICAL PART. SPARK PLUGS AND COIL PACKS HAVE FAILED ACROSS OUR ENTIRE FLEET OF 2005-2008 F-150'S. THE POTENTIAL FOR SEIZED SPARK PLUGS IS SIGNIFICANT DUE TO INCREASED HEAT FROM FAILED COIL PACKS. THE COIL PACKS SEEM TO FAIL APPROXIMATELY EVERY 25,000-75,000 MILES. THE REPAIRS HAVE BEEN VERY COSTLY - ESPECIALLY WITH A FLEET OF 200+ VEHICLES. FORD HAS NOT OFFERED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH ANY OF THE CLAIMS. SYMPTOMS - THE VEHICLE SPUTTERS OR BOGS DOWN UNDER LOAD WHILE TRAVELING UP A HILL OR UNDER HARD ACCELERATION. THIS WAS DISCLOSED AFTER TAKING VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTICS AS THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE WHILE ENGINE RUNNING AND LOSS OF POWER. REPAIR COST WAS $617. DISCUSSION WITH DEALER DISCLOSES THAT THIS A WELL KNOW PROBLEM BY FORD MANAGEMENT, A TBS HAS BEEN ISSUED. FURTHER FORD HAS DENIED ANY RESPONSIBILITY AND WILL NOT PROVIDE ANY MONETARY ASSISTANCE. THIS IS A FORD CREATED DESIGN ENGINEERING DEFECT THAT FORD JUST IGNORES AND LET'S THE CUSTOMER PAY FOR ITS MISTAKE. CUSTOMER IS SUBJECT TO COST OF REPAIR THAT IS FAR FROM NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, A SAFETY CONCERN OF FIRE IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FROM RAW FUEL BLOWN OUT OF THE HOLE VACATED BY SPARKPLUG, A RELIABILITY ISSUE AND A SAFETY CONCERN FROM SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE COVERED BY A FEDERAL MANDATED RECALL SINCE FORD IS MAKING THIS A CONSUMER PROBLEM IGNORING THE FACT THAT IT IS A ENGINEERING, DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING PROBLEM FOR WHICH IT REFUSES TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY. TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE OUTER SHEATH WAS MELTED ON EXHAUST SYSTEM. CABLE HAD UNKNOWINGLY COME LOOSE OF A RETAINING CLIP AND WAS THEN ALLOWED TO CONTACT HOT EXHAUST MANIFOLD. MELTED THE OUTER PLASTIC OF SHIFT CABLE CAUSING THE SHIFT SELECTOR TO BECOME INOPERABLE. SHIFT SELECTOR COULD BE PLACED IN PARK BUT TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT BE IN PARK; IF I HAD NOT REALIZED THERE WAS A PROBLEM I COULD HAVE BELIEVED THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN PARK WHEN IT WAS NOT AND THE TRUCK COULD HAVE ROLLED FREELY. ACCORDING TO THE MODEL YEAR FORD F150 MAINTENANCE MANUAL, SPARK PLUGS ARE TO BE CHANGED EVERY 100,000MI. JUST PRIOR TO THIS MILEAGE FOR REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF THE SPARK PLUGS THE ENGINE STARTED TO DEVELOP A MISFIRE. FORD HAS RECOGNIZED THE PROBLEM WITH THE SPARK PLUGS AND THE DIFFICULTY TO REMOVE THEM. THIS KNOWN MAINTENANCE ISSUE LED FORD TO PROVIDE A TSB ON THE ISSUE.
