TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 3 MPH WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE CONTACT LUBRICATED THE STEERING COLUMN BY APPLYING OIL AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE RUNNING BOARDS WERE DAMAGED AND THE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,660.
THE BRAKES COME ON WITHOUT STEPPING ON THE BRAKE. *TR
STEERING WHEEL HAS BECOME DIFFICULT TO TURN. FEELS AS IF IT IS LOCKING UP AND I REALLY HAVE TO MUSCLE IT BACK TO CENTER AFTER TAKING A SHARP TURN. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE LUBRICATED A U JOINT ON THE STEERING SHAFT WHICH HELPED AND TOLD ME TO BRING IT BACK IF/WHEN IT STARTS BINDING UP AGAIN. HE INFORMED ME HE HAS REPLACED THE LOWER STEERING SHAFT ON OTHER F150'S DUE TO SEVERE RUST/CORROSION AT THE JOINT. I SAW RECENTLY FORD ISSUED A RECALL ON CROWN VICTORIA'S WITH SOME TYPE OF STEERING ISSUE SO I FIGURED I WOULD SUBMIT THIS COMPLAINT SINCE I ANTICIPATE HAVING TO REPLACE THE STEERING SHAFT IN THE NEAR FUTURE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES EVEN WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONTACT APPLIED OIL TO THE STEERING COLUMN TO ALLEVIATE THE FAILURE. THE REMEDY LASTED A WEEK AND MORE OIL WAS APPLIED AS A TEMPORARY REMEDY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 10 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. EIGHTEEN MONTHS LATER, WHILE REVERSING AT 10 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE DRIVER SIDE OF ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE REAR OF A SECOND VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT THE STEERING GETS STIFF AND JERKING CAUSING OVERSTEER AND ERRATIC MOTION. ADDED POWERSTEERING FLUID BUT DID NOT HELP. *TR
STEERING GOT VERY HARD TO TURN. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS NOW. USE WD-40 TO LOOSEN THE KNUCKLE. *TR
HIT A COW DRIVING AT 55MPH WHICH TOTALED THE TRUCK. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
DURING THE SPRING OF 2013 THE HVAC BLOWER MOTOR SPEED SELECTOR SWITCH WAS PRODUCING THE SAME AMOUNT OF AIR ON POSITION 4 AS IT DID ON 3. I REPLACED THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR, BUT THIS DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I TOOK OFF THE DASH TRIM BEZEL TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE REAR OF THE HVAC CONTROLS, AND I WAS SHOCKED TO FIND MELTED & BURNT PLASTIC. A COUPLE OF THE WIRES WERE BROWN FROM WHAT I CAN ONLY ASSUME WAS A SMALL FIRE. WE HAVE A 10 MONTH, OUR FIRST CHILD, AND MY HEART WAS RACING AT THE FEAR OF A VEHICLE FIRE AND GETTING OUR BABY GIRL OUT SAFE IN TIME. SHOULD A FUSE BLOW PRIOR TO THIS FAILURE? I DID SOME LOOKING ONLINE, REPLACED THE SWITCH AND WIRE HARNESS PIGTAIL. IT WORKS FINE NOW, BUT I DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM, AND WHY SO MANY FORDS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS ON THE WINDOW CONTROL SWITCHES & BLOWER MOTOR CONTROL SWITCHES. IT'S BECAUSE BOTH USE THE SAME 4 WIRE BLADE PLUG. AND THE WAY IT IS ASSEMBLED IS THE CAUSE. THE TERMINALS NEED TO TIGHTER AROUND THE BLADE CONNECTION. ALSO, THE PORTION THAT IS CRIMPED WHERE THE WIRE ATTACHED TO THE TERMINAL SITS OFF CENTER AND ASSEMBLED BACK TO BACK. IF IT WAS ASSEMBLED WITH THE CRIMP ON THE INSIDE IT WOULD CREATE A BIGGER GAP AND REDUCE THE RISK OF VEHICLE FIRES. I TOOK A BUNCH OF PHOTOS AND STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL SWITCH IF YOU CARE TO EXAMINE IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD F-150 SD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AS THE STEERING WHEEL TIGHTENED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND STEERING LINE HAD A LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. UPDATED 11/15/13*CN
WHILE DRIVING, MY STEERING SUDDENLY STARTED TO FEEL LIKE IT WAS BINDING. I PULLED OVER AND NOTICED A LARGE POOL OF FLUID UNDERNEATH. I HAD IT TOWED TO A SERVICE STATION AND WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED A STEERING RACK. THE STEERING RACK WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY ( I HAVE A RECEIPT, JUST NOT AT HAND AT THE MOMENT) $1300.00. A WEEK LATER MY STEERING WAS ACTING STRANGE AGAIN. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE SERVICE STATION AND WAS TOLD THAT I NOW NEEDED A STEERING COLUMN (SP). THE COST TO REPLACE THIS WAS $470.00. *TR
I OWN A 2008 FORD F-150 LARIAT WHICH IS LIGHTLY USED AND NEVER CARRIES A LOAD.THE TIRES ON MY TRUCK DRY ROTTED BY 5/19/11 AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. MILEAGE WAS 18369, COST TO ME WAS $362.00. NOW THE NEW TIRES HAVE DONE THE SAME THING. I DO NOT HAUL CARGO OR DRIVE AT EXCESSIVE SPEEDS. MY CURRENT MILEAGE IS 31944 WHICH MEANS THIS SET LASTED JUST OVER TWO YEARS AND 13575 MILES. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE ISSUE OF A BLOWOUT AND LOSING CONTROL OF THE TRUCK ON THE HIGHWAY DUE TO THE ROLLOVERS WITH PICKUP TRUCKS. I JUST WATCHED AN EPISODE OF MOTORWEEK THAT STRESSED THE IMPORTANCE OF KEEPING THE STEEL BELTS OUT OF THE ELEMENTS OR THEY WILL FAIL BADLY AND THESE TIRES ARE CRACKED IN THE TREAD WHERE THERE IS LITTLE TO KEEP THE STEEL COVERED. I DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS TIRE, BUT I'M NOT GETTING ANY SERVICE LIFE OUT OF A VERY EXPENSIVE TIRE. IT SEEMS BF GOODRICH AND FORD THINK THIS IS MY PROBLEM, GOODRICH BLAMES OZONE FOR THE PROBLEM, NOBODY WILL TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. THE #3 PASSENGER SIDE ENGINE SPARK PLUG WAS BLOWN COMPLETELY OUT OF THE ENGINE HEAD. THE BLOW-OUT STRIPED ALL THE THREADS FROM THE ENGINE HEAD. THIS DAMAGE CAUSED THE SPARK PLUG HOLE TO BE UNUSABLE. REINSTALLATION OF THE SPARK PLUG WAS NOT POSSIBLE. THE SPARK PLUG BLOWING OUT ALSO CAUSED THE COIL TO BE BROKEN LEAVING THE COIL LAYING ON THE ENGINE STILL ACTIVE WITH HIGH VOLTAGE ARCHING ACROSS THE SURFACE OF THE ENGINE POTENTIALLY CAUSING A FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THIS INCIDENT HAS NOT BEEN UNCOMMON TO FORD ALUMINUM HEAD ENGINES AND IS A PROBLEM FORD REFUSES TO ADDRESS. THE COST TO CONSUMERS IS IN THE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO REPAIR THIS DEFECT IN THE ENGINE HEAD. CONSUMERS ARE BEING FORCED TO REPLACE THE HEAD OR REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE DUE TO THIS DEFECT. A QUICK INTERNET RESEARCH INTO THIS ANOMALY WILL REVEAL MILLIONS OF CONSUMERS WHO HAVE VICTIMIZED BY THIS DEFECT. FORD SERVICE FACILITIES ARE MAKING MILLIONS IF NOT BILLIONS OF DOLLARS AFTER THE SALE OF THE VEHICLE AS A DIRECT CONSEQUENCE OF THIS UNREVEALED DEFECT. THIS IS NOTHING LESS THAN A CASE OF DOING BUSINESS IN BAD FAITH AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY THE NHTSA. *TR
THE TRUCK STEERING COLUMN WAS HARD TO TURN. CLUNKING AND STICKING POINTS WERE NOTED DURING TURNING.FOUND LOWER STEERING SHAFT U-JOINT IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT SEIZED. THIS COINCIDES WITH LATEST FORD RECALL FOR 2005 - 2011 FORD CARS. THIS WAS DIAGNOSED AS "FROZEN" BY FORD AND REPLACED ON 06/17/13. THIS RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE FORD F-150 SERIES TRUCKS. THE REPAIR COST $460.00. I THOUGHT THIS SHOULD HAVE NOT HAPPEN BEING ONLY 5 YEARS OLD. ANOTHER ISSUE WITH TRUCK WAS A SPLIT IN THE RADIATOR (MAIN CORE.) WHILE DRIVING , MY FAMILY NOTICED THE SMELL OF GLYCOL. THE RADIATOR WAS LEAKING (STREAMING)IN THE MIDDLE OF RADIATOR CORE. FORD REPLACED THE RADIATOR AT A COST OF $820.83 ON 08/05/13. THERE WAS NO IMPACT DAMAGE TO RADIATOR. IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS LEAKING. *JS
PURCHASED USED 2008 FORD F-150 5.4L V8 GASOLINE TRUCK A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. LAST YEAR THE TRUCK STARTED TO SOUND LIKE A DIESEL ONCE THE ENGINE WARMED UP. THE CAM PHASER SENSORS WERE REPLACED. THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. NEXT WE WILL HAVE A CAM PHASER LOCK OUT SYSTEM INSTALLED. THE MECHANIC SAYS THAT 50% OF THE TIME IT FIXES THE PROBLEM BUT THE OTHER 50% REQUIRES A BRAND NEW ENGINE. ALSO, KEYSTONE IS THE ONLY ENGINE THAT MY MECHANIC WILL USE FOR THE REPLACEMENT DUE TO THE ORIGINAL MANUFACTURER HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH 2004 TO 2008 MODEL YEARS. ALL SEARCHES ONLINE AND DISCUSSIONS WITH VARIOUS PEOPLE (FRIENDS, FAMILY, FORD DEALERSHIP MECHANICS, PUBLIC FORUMS) HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM THAT CAN COST UP $7,000 TO FIX YET FORD HAS NOT RECALLED THE ENGINE OR OFFERED TO MODIFY THE ENGINE BY INSTALLING THE LOCK OUT KIT. NOW THE TRUCK HASN'T BEEN DRIVEN MORE THAN A COUPLE OF MILES IN THE LAST YEAR SO THE ENGINE IS NOT DESTROYED. THE MOST COMMON COURSE OF THE BREAK DOWN IN THE ENGINE IS AS FOLLOWS: CAM SENSOR FAIL, CAM PHASERS BREAK IF NOT LOCKED OUT, FRAGMENTS OF THE PHASER GETS INTO THE OIL CAUSING THE ENGINE TO BE DESTROYED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED EXCESSIVELY. THE BRAKE PEDAL BEGAN TO PULSATE AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COME TO A STOP WHEN HE SHIFTED THE VEHICLE INTO PARK. THE CONTACT DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000. *TR
POWER STEERING BECAME INTERMITTENT AND VEHICLE WOULD BECOME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. REMEDY WAS TO REPLACE THE FAULTY, RUSTED LOWER LINKAGE IN THE STEERING ASSEMBLY. *TR
MY 16 YEAR OLD SON WAS DRIVING OUR TRUCK AND THE ENGINE STARTED TO KNOCK AND THEN PROCEEDED TO DIE. IT STARTED BACK UP BUT IT WILL DIE WHEN YOU START TO SLOW DOWN FOR AN INTERSECTION OR TO PARK. OUR TRUCK IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD, ONLY HAS 121,000 MILES, AND HAS HAD ITS OIL CHANGES REGULARLY. THERE IS NO REASON WE SHOULD BE HAVING A PROBLEM LIKE THIS WITH THE TRUCK. WHEN I TALKED TO OUR LOCAL AUTO MECHANIC HE INFORMED ME THAT HE HAS REPLACED THE CAM PHASERS IN 7 F-150'S IN THE PAST MONTH. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE LOOKED AT BY FORD. THE REPAIR IS NOT CHEAP AND I BELIEVE FORD HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO LOOK INTO THIS CONSIDERING THE DANGER OF THE VEHICLE DYING WHENEVER IT WANTS WITH NO WARNING. I THOUGHT I WAS GIVING MY SON A RELIABLE TRUCK TO DRIVE BUT AS IT TURNS OUT HE CANNOT DRIVE IT BECAUSE I FEEL IT IS TO DANGEROUS FOR HIM WITH THE ENGINE DYING. *TR
ON MARCH 24, 2013 MY GIRLFRIEND AND I WERE EAST BOUND ON I 70 GOING TO DENVER AIRPORT TO PICK UP HER MINOR CHILD. AT APPROX. 274 EXIT, MY TRUCK STARTED SLIDING ON ICE AND HIT HEAD ON INTO MEDIAN CONCRETE BARRIER. AT THE SAME TIME I WAS STRUCK BY ANOTHER OUT OF CONTROL VEHICLE AND WAS PUSHED TO THE SHOULDER SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE HITTING THE ON-RAMP GUARD RAIL AT APPROX. 45 MPH HEAD ON. THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT DID NOT LOCK UNTIL AFTER MY GIRLFRIEND HIT THE WINDSHIELD WITH HER HEAD.I HIT THE STEERING WHEEL WITH MY HEAD ALSO. YES, THE MAJOR COMPLAINT IS NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AFTER HITTING 2 STRUCTURES HEAD ON. THE FIRE DEPT. CUT ALL THE BATTERY LEADS TO KEEP THE AIR BAGS FROM GOING OFF BEFORE LETTING POLICE LOOK INSIDE OR BE TOWED. I CONTACTED FORD WITH MY CONCERN FOR THE AIR BAGS NOT WORKING. THEIR RESPONSE WAS " WHAT DO YOU WANT FORD TO DO"? I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD ASKING FOR INFORMATION THAT WILL TAKE ME FOREVER TO ACCUMULATE. ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF BIG CORPORATIONS NOT CARING ABOUT THE PEOPLE THEIR PRODUCTS FAIL TO PROTECT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND I THANK GOD NEITHER OF US WAS SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED BECAUSE OF THE AIR BAGS NOT BEING SET OFF BY A DOUBLE HEAD ON IMPACT!!! *TR
ON MARCH 24, 2013, MY GIRLFRIEND AND I WERE DRIVING TO DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPRT VIA I-70 EAST BOUND. MY TRUCK AS WELL AS MULTIPLE OTHER VEHICLES HIT SOME BLACK ICE ON A LONG BRIDGE I-70 EAST BOUND. BY TRUCK SLID SIDE WAYS AND HIT THE CONCRETE MEDIAN HEAD ON AND AT SAME TIME WAS HIT BY ANOTHER OUT OF CONTROL VEHICLE WHICH HIT ME IN THE DRIVERS DOOR. THIS CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO SPIN SEVERAL TIMES ACROSS 3 LANES AND RAN INTO GUARD RAIL HEAD ON. UPON ALL THREE IMPACTS THE SEAT BELTS DID NOT LOCK NOR DID ANY AIR BAGS DEPLOY CAUSING MY GIRLFRIEND TO HIT THE WINDSHIELD AND I STRUCK THE STEERING WHEEL WITH MY CHEST AND CHIN. WHEN THE FIRE DEPT. ARRIVED, THEY CUT TALL BATTERY CABLE TO PREVENT THE AIR BAGS GOING OFF ACCIDENTALLY WHILE WE WERE BEING REMOVED FROM THE TRUCK. NO TICKETS WERE ISSUED TO MYSELF OR THE DRIVER OF THE TRUCK THAT HIT ME. THE TRUCK WAS TOTALLED AS THE FRAME WAS TWISTED AND TOTAL FRONT END WAS DESTROYED. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD DIRECTLY. I SENT THEM PICTURES AND INFORMATION THEY ASKED FOR. THEY ARE REQUESTING INFORMATION AND ACCESS TO THE TRUCK THAT I CANNOT PROVIDE AS MY INSURANCE COMPANY TOOK POSSESION OF THE VEHICLE. TO THIS DAY FORD ONLY SENDS ME LETTERS ASKING FOR MORE INFORMATION I DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO. THE PICTURES I SENT TO FORD SHOWED EVERY ANGLE OF THE FRONT END DAMAGE AS WELL AS PICTURES OF THE INSIDE CLEARLY SHOWING THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT SINCE I'M THE AVERAGE PERSON STRUGGLING TO MAKE A LIVING AND FORD IS THE BIG CORPORATION WITH BOTTOMLESS POCKETS THAT NOTHING WILL BE DONE OR HAS BEEN DONE. THIS IS CLEARLY A CASE OF FAULTY EQUIPMENT WHICH I SENT PROOF WITH THE PICTURES. BIG BROTHER STICKS IT TO THE AVERAGE PERSON AGAIN WITH NO CONSEQUENCES!!! *TR
TWICE IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS MY TRUCK HAS SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP. THE FIRST TIME I THOUGHT I HAD ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE ACCELERATOR AT THE SAME TIME AS THE BRAKE; BUT IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND IT WAS CLEARLY A SURGE WITHOUT TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. BOTH TIMES WERE AT LOW SPEEDS AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP BY PUSHING HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. HOWEVER, THE ENGINE WAS SURGING AGAINST THE BRAKES. I LOOKED UP INFORMATION ON THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT FORD DID NOT HAVE A BRAKE PEDAL ACCELERATOR INTERRUPTER ON THIS YEAR'S TRUCK. I CALLED MY FORD DEALER WHO SAID THAT NO ONE HAD REPORTED A SIMILAR PROBLEM TO HIM AND THAT THERE WAS NOT A TSB FROM FORD ON THIS ISSUE. WHEN I ASKED IF HE COULD PUT A BRAKE PEDAL INTERRUPTER ON MY TRUCK, HE SAID HE DIDN'T KNOW IF IT WAS POSSIBLE. HE SAID HE WOULD FIND OUT AND CALL ME BACK, BUT NEVER DID. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 F-150. AS I WAS TAKING AN EXIT OFF THE HIGHWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL LOOKED UP & I COULDN'T TURN THE WHEEL & ENDED UP ON THE GRASSY AREA OF THE EXIT.. THE PROBLEM IS THE LOWER STEERING SHAFT U-JOINT BINDS UP & LOCKS. THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE U-JOINT, THERE IS NO WAY TO GREASE OR LUBE THE U-JOINT. I HAVE NOTIFIED FORD MANY TIMES WITH NO ANSWERS OR RESPONSE. I WAS DRIVING IN THE CITY AT A 20MPH ROAD AND I MADE A LEFT TURN THEN ACCELERATED AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE TRUCK STALLED BUT KEPT GOING STRAIGHT FORWARD UNTIL IT COMPLETELY STOPPED. I BOUGHT MY FORD TRUCK USED IN APRIL 2012 WITH 33000 MILES. ABOUT A MONTH LATER I NOTICED THAT WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP, THE ENGINE WOULD REV UP. IT HAS SINCE GOTTEN ALOT WORSE. NOW THE ENGINE HAS STARTED TO OVERPOWER THE BRAKES. I FIND THAT WHEN THE ENGINE STARTS TO REV, IF I LET OFF THE BRAKE AND REBRAKE IT WILL DROP THE RPM'S BACK DOWN. HE ALSO ADV THAT HE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE SPARK PLUG BUT HE DID NOT WANT TO UNTIL I CHECK INFO ON THE 9/16 PLUG ON-LINE. THIS PLUG HAS HISTORY OF BREAKING (DESIGN FLAW- CARBON FUSING/REPLACEMENT MC PLUGS HAVE BEEN REDESIGNED) BASED ON INFO IN VARIOUS FORUMS. THE PLUG DID BREAK DURING EXTRACTION REQUIRING ADDITIONAL WORK/EXPENSE. CALLED A LOCAL FORD DEALER SERVICE MGR WHO ADVISED HE WAS UNAWARE OF THAT HAPPENING BEFORE 80K MLS. IT FELT AS IF STEERING WAS BINDING WHEN MAKING A TURN. IT WOULD SUDDENLY BREAK FREE AND OVERSTEER WAS A PROBLEM. WHEN COMING OUT OF A TURN THE WHEEL WOULD NOT CENTER ON ITS OWN, BUT HAD TO BE TURNED BACK TO THE STRAIGHT AHEAD POSITION. SPOKE WITH A FORD DEALER AND THEY WANTED AN EXORBITANT CHARGE TO JUST LOOK AT THE VEHICLE AND PROFESSED THEY HAD NOT HEARD OF THE PROBLEM BEFORE. I WENT ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND AT LEAST TWO HUNDRED (200) REFERENCES TO THE EXACT ISSUE. IT WAS THE LOWER STEERING SHAFT UNIVERSAL JOINTS THAT HAD SEVERELY CORRODED. I LUBED THE JOINTS AND THINGS WENT BACK TO NORMAL FOR A FEW DAYS AND THE BINDING RETURNED. I INSTALLED A NEW LOWER SHAFT - FORD PART8L3ZB767B- AND THE TRUCK STEERS LIKE NEW. THE ORIGINAL PART ENDED IN A AND THE B REPRESENTS AN UPDATED VERSION. OBVIOUSLY FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAS ENGINEERED A FIX - AND NEVER NOTIFYING THE CONSUMER. A TRUE CONCERN IS THE FOLLOWING. OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS WHEN DRIVING STRAIGHT THE WHEEL SHOWED ABOUT 15 DEGREES OF RIGHT INPUT WHILE TRACKING STRAIGHT, HANDS OFF. I HAD THE ALIGNMENT CHECKED AND ALL OK. IT WAS NOT PULLING, JUST A DISPLACED FROM CENTER WHEEL POSITION. THIS HAS ALL DISAPPEARED WITH THE NEW SHAFT. ON THE SAME ROADS, SAME CONDITIONS THE WHEEL IS PERFECTLY CENTERED. THIS TELLS ME THE OLD SHAFT HAS SUFFERED SOME TYPE OF DEFORMATION, MOST LIKELY ASSOCIATED WITH THE UNIVERSAL JOINTS ON SAID SHAFT. 2008 FORD F-150. CONSUMER STATES ACCELERATION ISSUES WITH VEHICLE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HE BEGAN EXPERIENCING SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEMS IN EARLY APRIL 2012. I LIFTED THE HOOD AND FOUND THE ENGINE ON FIRE. I WAS ABLE TO SMOTHER IT BY THROWING A JACKET ON IT. IT MELTED THE WIRING AND THE COMPUTER MODULES. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY MECHNICS SHOP AND FOUND IT HAD BLOWN A SPARK PLUG. I WENT HOME AND FOUND FORD WANTS TO REPLACE THE CYLINDER FOR A COST OF $3000. I HAD MY MECHANIC PUT IN A SLEEVE AND REPLACE ALL 8 SPARK PLUGS. BUT THEN I CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY FOR THE FIRE DAMAGE AND THEY HAD IT TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER WHO IS REPLACING THE MODULAR. IT WAS ABOUT 6:00AM WHEN I STARTED MY TRUCK UP AND DROVE TO MY MAIL BOX WHICH WAS ABOUT 300FT FROM MY CARPORT. I HAD BACKED MY TRUCK UNDER THE CARPORT TO REMOVE GROCERYS THE DAY BEFORE, SO I DROVE FORWARD TO THE MAIL BOX AND DROVE BACKWARDS TO PARK MY TRUCK BACK UNDER THE CARPORT,. IT HAPPENED AGAIN THIS WEEK WITH MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE CAR. WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT ONTO SHOULDER BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED. HAVE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT AT DEALERSHIP TOMORROW MORNING. I WAS TRAVELLING ON THE I-74 FROM CINCINNATTI TO INDIANAPOLIS WHEN THERE WAS A LOUD POP AND THEN A FLUTTERING SOUND BEFORE THE ENGINE POWER FAILED. I WAS LEFT IN A VULNERABLE PLACE IN THE POURING RAIN WITH TWO HORSES ON A TRAILER. WHEN TAKEN TO FORD IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN OUT - DESPITE REPAIR THE ENGINE IS STILL MAKING A RATTLING NOISE AND I AM CURRENTLY BEING QUOTED $THOUSANDS TO INVESTIGATE AND REPAIR WHAT IS BELIEVED TO BE FRAGMENTS OF THE ALUMINIMUM THREAD THAT HAVE FALLEN INTO THE CYLINDER - THIS IS FORD'S DESIGN FAULT AND THEY ARE CURRENTLY UNWILLING TO STAND BEHIND THEIR BRAND AND PUT THIS RIGHT.
