BACKED UP FROM PARKING SPOT AND PUT IN DRIVE AND THE STEERING QUIT WORKING. FAULT CODES APPEARED FOR STEERING ASSY FAULT. TURNED OFF AND THEN BACK ON BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. DROVE TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE STEERING GEAR. *TR
ENGINE STALL-SHUTS DOWN WHEN IT GOES INTO PASSING GEAR. WHEN YOU ATTEMPT TO PASS OR ENTER ONTO A HIGHWAY YOU ACCELERATE AND THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN
I OWN A 2011 FORD F-150 ECOBOOST AND HAVE HAD ISSUES THAT FORD WISHES TO IGNORE AND WHICH I CONSIDER A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. APPROX. OCT 16, 2013, WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE DURING RAINY WEATHER, I ACCELERATED TO PASS, ON THE LEFT, A TT/ST THAT WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE. AS I STARTED TO PASS, AT APPROX. 3500 RPM, THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHED. I WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED BY THE VEHICLE THAT WAS BEHIND ME, DUE TO THE STALL AND SUDDEN DECELERATION. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND TO THIS DATE THE SAME THING OCCURS , ONLY THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON. FORD'S FIX IS TO REPLACE THE COIL AND ALL SIX SPARK PLUGS AT A COST OF $400, STATING THE ISSUE IS A MAINTENANCE ISSUE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY (VEHICLE STILL UNDER WARRANTY). FORD REFUSES TO RECOGNIZE THE DANGER THIS PROBLEM CREATES FOR THE OCCUPANTS AND WOULD RATHER USE A BAND-AID APPROACH, RATHER THAN FIX THE PROBLEMS , WHICH APPEARS TO BE MOISTURE DUMPED INTO THE ENGINE FROM THE COLD-AIR-CHARGE(INTERCOOLER) FOR THE TURBOS. I HAVE DONE MY HOMEWORK AND HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE AND IN MOST CASES, FORD REPLACES THE IGNITION COIL AND SPARK PLUGS , ONLY TO HAVE THE SAME THING HAPPEN AGAIN. AGAIN , FORD IS PUTTING THE OCCUPANTS OF THESE VEHICLES AT RISK CAUSED BY THE SUDDEN DECELERATION AND REFUSES TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND REPAIR THE PROBLEM. *TR
2011 F-150 WITH 3.5 LITER ECOBOOST ENGINE. TRUCK HAD BEEN DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES IN THE RAIN. STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND THEN PROCEEDED TO TURN LEFT. ACCELERATED UP A HILL ON A 2 LINE HIGHWAY AND TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND LOST ALL POWER IN A MOVING LANE OF TRAFFIC. A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. PULLED TO THE SIDE OF ROAD AND AFTER A MINUTE TRUCK CLEARED UP AND DROVE NORMAL. CURRENTLY THE TRUCK SURGES UNDER MODERATE ACCELERATION AND IN 3RD GEAR WILL GO INTO LIMP MODE AND LOSE ALL POWER. ONLY OCCURS UNDER MODERATE ACCELERATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH AND ATTEMPTING A LEFT TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,300.
AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE. IT WILL BACKFIRE AND SPUTTER. THIS LAST INCIDENT ON 1/22/2015 ALMOST CAUSED A SERIOUS OR FATAL ACCIDENT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH A TRACTOR TRAILER. I TRIED TO PASS, WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS THE ENGINE BACKFIRED, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STOPPED RUNNING IN THE MIDDLE A TRAFFIC. A SEMI ALMOST KILLED ME AND MY PASSENGER. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURN THE KEY OFF AND THEN RE-START THE ENGINE. NOW THE ENGINE WILL BARELY ACCELERATE FROM THE START. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT ON 2/4 TO TRY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK. IT HAS NOW GOTTEN INCREASINGLY WORSE AND DANGEROUS. *TR
RETURNING HOME FROM A WEEKEND CAMPING TRIP WITH MY FAMILY AND PULLING A TRAVEL TRAILER VIA I-81 IN VA, I DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR APPROACHING A LONG HILL, AND ABRUPTLY LOST ALL ENGINE AND DRIVE POWER, THE ENGINE SHUDDERED VIOLENTLY, THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED TO LOWER GEAR AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHED A FEW TIMES. WE HAD ABSOLUTELY NO POWER AND I THOUGHT THE ENGINE WAS GOING TO SHUT OFF. I WAS IN THE 2ND LANE FROM THE RIGHT AND HAD TO QUICKLY MOVE TO THE RIGHT LANE THEN TO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID BEING HIT FROM BEHIND. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS WHILE PULLING A 34' TRAVEL TRAILER. I HAD TO PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER AND STOP COMPLETELY TO REGAIN CONTROL. I HAD TO PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK AND TURN IT OFF BEFORE IT RETURNED TO SOMEWHAT NORMAL DRIVABILITY. WHILE CONTINUING TO CLIMB THE UPHILL GRADE, THE ENGINE MISFIRED AND HESITATED CONSTANTLY. I COULD ONLY APPLY GENTLY PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR TO KEEP THE VEHICLE MOVING. ONCE OVER THE HILL THE VEHICLE PICKED UP SPEED AND RETURNED TO NORMAL DRIVABILITY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP. THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN A FEW MONTHS LATER WHILE DRIVING SOUTH ON RT-4 IN MD WITH MY WIFE, AND NOT PULLING A TRAILER. THIS TIME I DIDN'T SHUT THE ENGINE OFF, BUT HAD TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER TO REGAIN CONTROL AND ENGINE POWER. AS I CONTINUED ON RT4 THE ENGINE MISFIRED AND HESITATED SEVERAL MORE MILES. ONCE AT MY DESTINATION I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, THEN UPON DEPARTURE THE VEHICLE OPERATED MORE NORMAL, BUT EXPERIENCED MISFIRE AND HESITATIONS SEVERAL MILE RETURNING HOME. THE NEXT DAY THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY, BUT I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION AND MAKES ME VERY LEARY DRIVING THIS VEHICLE ON A NORMAL BASIS. IF I WAS ACCELERATING WHILE CROSSING THE HIGHWAY AND THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED, THERE IS A GREAT CHANCE OF GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT OR CAUSING ONE. *TR
WHILE ACCELERATING UP A HILL, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO MISFIRE AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY AND ACTUALLY SLOWED WHILE THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT BLINKED. I WAS FORCED TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY, SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT RE-LIGHT AND I CONTINUED ON NORMALLY UNTIL ATTEMPTING TO PASS A VEHICLE WHEN THE SAME MALFUNCTION OCCURRED. THIS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY OVER THE PAST 3 MONTHS WHILE ATTEMPTING HARD ACCELERATION UNTIL IT WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE DEALER INSTALLED A "DEFLECTOR" TO PREVENT MOISTURE FROM ENTERING THE TURBO OR AFTERCOOLER AND REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER. UPON LEAVING THE DEALER, IT WAS EVIDENT THAT THE REPAIRS DID NOT WORK AND THE PROBLEM BECAME WORSE. THE ENGINE MISFIRES CONSTANTLY RESULTING IN AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. *TR
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A ROUGH IDLE THEN UPON ACCELERATION, SEVERE SHUDDERING AND LACK OF POWER. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON AND BEGAN FLASHING. VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A 3.5L GTDI ENGINE. VEHICLE THEN CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE COMPLETE LACK OF POWER AND SHUDDER WHILE BEING DRIVEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 62 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND DECREASE SPEED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED SIMULTANEOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
CROSSING TABLE ROCK DAM ON DRY, FLAT, LEVEL PAVEMENT AFTER LETTING OFF GAS IN ANTICIPATION OF STOPPING AT UPCOMING LIGHT REAR TIRES LOCKED AND WENT INTO SKID SQUEALING BRAND NEW MICHELIN TIRES WITH LESS THAN 500 MILES ON THEM. NOBODY WAS DIRECTLY BEHIND ME OR WOULD HAVE CAUSED WRECK DUE TO SUDDEN DECELERATION WITH NO BRAKE LIGHTS SINCE NO BRAKE APPLIED. TIRES SQUALL LIKE OLD VEHICLES WITH NO ABS WHEN BRAKES LOCKED UP. AN EMPLOYEE WAS RIDING WITH ME AT THE TIME AND IT SCARED BOTH OF US. HAD WE NOT BEEN OUT OF TOWN AND DEPENDENT ON TRUCK GETTING US HOME WE WOULD HAVE NOT DRIVEN IT AGAIN. AFTER RETURNING HOME TRUCK DID IT A SECOND TIME A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER DRIVING IN TOWN DOWN STADIUM BLVD AT ABOUT 35 MPH. REAR TIRES LOCK, SKID AND SQUALL. IN ADDITION EARLIER INTERMITTENT HARD DOWNSHIFTS THAT FEEL LIKE SOMEONE HITS YOU FROM BEHIND BUT NOT A FULL LOCK CONDITION AS THESE TWO RECENT INCIDENTS. ALSO INTERMITTENT STALLING WHEN PULLING AWAY FROM STOP LIGHT, STOP SIGN, OUT OF PARKING LOT, OR OUT OF DRIVEWAY - ESPECIALLY AFTER IDLING. STALLS, HESITATES, BUCKS, VIBRATES, GIVING IT GAS DOES NOT RESULT IN VEHICLE RESPONDING. USUALLY ON "EASY" ACCELERATION MEANING WHEN JUST EASING OFF FROM STOP. INTERMITTENT TRANSMISSION STICKING IN 1ST GEAR AND WON'T SHIFT OUT. FINALLY VEHICLE SOMETIMES "SURGES" AFTER PUTTING IN GEAR ON COLD START OR WHEN LETTING OFF GAS AND COASTING - IT ACTUALLY PICKS UP SPEED AND LUNGES FORWARD FOR JUST A SECOND. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH ALL THE SENSORS AND THE COMPUTER IS CAUSING THE ENGINE / TRANSMISSION / ABS BRAKES TO BEHAVE IN STRANGE AND UNPREDICTABLE WAYS. MY FATHER, WIFE, AND EMPLOYEE HAVE ALL WITNESSED ONE OR MORE OF THESE ISSUES WHILE RIDING WITH ME BUT INTERMITTENT SO UNABLE TO REPLICATE. FORD CASE OPENED BUT NO RESOLUTION. TELL ME DRIVE IT UNTIL IT BREAKS SO THEY CAN FIND PROBLEM BUT UNSAFE TO DO SO. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AFTER 5 MINS IN THE MORNING, HEARD A VERY LOUD BANG. LIKE A BRANCH OR ROCK HIT THE ROOF OF THE TRUCK IN THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE. HEARD A CRACKLING SOUND AND THE REAR WINDOW ON THE PASSENGER SIDE HAD SHATTERED. THE WINDOW IS DIVIDED INTO 1/3 AND THE 1/3 ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IS SHATTERED. ALL OF THE OTHER WINDOWS APPEAR TO BE OK. AFTER SOME INSPECTION, NOTHING HIT THE TRUCK! I WAS DRIVING IN A OPEN AREA, SO NOTHING COULD HAVE FALLEN ON THE TRUCK FROM ABOVE. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE ADVANCED TRACK SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE TURN SIGNALS BECAME INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHERE THE DEALER STATED THAT THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY MODULE MALFUNCTIONED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENTIRE STEERING SYSTEM. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,487.
DEPARTED EUREKA, CA AT 1600 IN HEAVY RAIN ON FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 20, 2013. EUREKA TO REDDING CA ON HIGHWAY 299. RAIN WAS HEAVY FOR ABOUT 100 MILES NORTHBOUND ON HIGHWAY 299. AT ABOUT THE 100 MILE MARK, I ATTEMPTED TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE (SUDDEN ACCELERATION) WHEN THE ENGINE BEGAN TO RAPIDLY LOSE POWER AND THE TRUCK STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND SHUDDER. THE ENGINE LIGHT ON THE DASH BEGAN TO FLASH. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS A FLAT TIRE. BECAUSE I WAS IN "THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE" I CONTINUED ON TOWARDS WEAVERVILLE. I WAS CLIMBING A STEEP HILL, SLOWLY AND THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO SHAKE AND SHUDDER FOR ABOUT 6 MILES UNTIL I GOT TO THE TOP OF OREGON HILL (SUMMIT). WHEN I REACHED THE TOP, I PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL AND CAREFULLY COASTED DOWN THE HILL. WITHIN 2 MILES (OF COASTING AND THE ROAD IS DRY NOW) THE FLASHING ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF AND THE TRUCK APPEARED TO RETURN TO NORMAL OPERATION. AFTER THIS, I CONTINUED MY TRAVEL TO RENO, NEVADA AND HAD NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. THE TRUCK IS RUNNING FINE RIGHT NOW. *JS
ATTEMPTS TO ACCELERATE TO PASSING SPEED RESULTED IN SEVERE ENGINE SPUTTER AND BOG DOWN. FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND CONTINUED SPUTTERING FOR SEVERAL MILES TO FOLLOW. THIS OCCURRED TWICE DURING THE SAME (APPROXIMATELY 8 HR) TRIP AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, DURING RAINY CONDITIONS. THE SECOND TIME OCCURRING ON A LONG STRETCH OF 2 LANE ROAD CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO RE-ENTER MY LANE WITH OTHER TRAFFIC ALREADY MOVING UP TO PASS BEHIND ME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE MAKING A TURN AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE BY APPLYING EXCESSIVE FORCE TO THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MOTOR AND THE RACK & PINION SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED AND THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE ENTIRE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE THE RACK AND PINION REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000.
I WRECKED MY 2011 F150 ECOBOOST, I HIT A 4 FT CULVERT AND 4 TREES, TO WHICH THE 4TH STOPPED ME. MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY OR ATTEMPT TO DEPLOY, IN WHICH CASE CAUSED ME TO HAVE WHIPLASH AND SEVERELY SPRAINED ANKLE W/TORN LIGAMENTS AND TENDONS REQUIRING A HALF CAST AND WALKING BOOT. HOW THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED AND TIME WAS APPROXIMATELY 9:40ISH P.M. I CAME AROUND A CURVE, WITH CRUISE SET ON 60 MPH, THERE WAS A TRACTOR TRAILER IN THE MAJORITY OF MY LANE, I SWERVED TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID IT. WHEN I HIT THE CULVERT MY TRUCK DASHBOARD SAID SOMETHING ABOUT TRAC ON AND OK, I WENT AIRBORN, THE CULVERT BROKE A TIE ROD AND THE TREES TOOK OUT THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY TRUCK, THE LAST TREE I HIT STOPPED ME.....I CALLED FORD AND THEY ARE REFERRING IT TO THEIR LEGAL DEPARTMENT, SUPPOSE TO BE SENDING SOMEONE OUT TO LOOK AT MY TRUCK (I MIGHT ADD THAT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WAS BROKE OUT TOO) AND BE CONTACTING ME IN A 15 DAY RANGE PERIOD. IN THE MEAN TIME....I THINK IT WAS A SAFETY HAZARD AND NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO.
DURING ACCELERATION TO MERGE ONTO THE HIGHWAY, MY F-150 LOST POWER. THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SPUTTER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, AND THE TRUCK LOST POWER. AN 18-WHEELER BEHIND ME HAD TO SLAM ON HIS BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING MY VEHICLE AS I MOVED IT TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY PERFORMED TSB13-8-1. AS OF TODAY (4/28/2014), THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. I JUST TOOK MY TRUCK BACK INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE ANOTHER TSB PERFORMED. THIS TIME, I HAD TO PAY $100 BECAUSE MY POWERTRAIN WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. MY MAIN CONCERN IS THAT THE TSB'S THAT FORD IS ISSUING ARE INADEQUATE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE CAUSE OF POWER LOSS IS MOISTURE THAT BUILDS UP INSIDE THE INTERCOOLER. THE LAST FIX WAS TO PLACE A PIECE OF PLASTIC OVER THE INTERCOOLER IN AN ATTEMPT TO RAISE INTERNAL TEMPERATURES AND PREVENT MOISTURE FROM BUILDING UP. IT DID NOT WORK...AND MY MPG WENT DOWN BY 1.8 (AVERAGE) WITH THE FIX. MY MAIN CONCERN IS THAT FORD WILL CONTINUE TO RELEASE INADEQUATE SOLUTIONS TO THIS PROBLEM, AND ONCE MY ESP HAS RUN OUT, I WILL BE LEFT WITH A TRUCK THAT DOESN'T WORK AND WITH NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO PAY FOR EXPENSES 100% OUT OF POCKET. HOPEFULLY SOMETHING IS DONE TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. I AM NOT A VERY SATISFIED CUSTOMER AT THIS TIME. *JS
TRUCK FREQUENTLY GOES INTO LIMP MODE/STALLS. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, TIMES, TERRAIN, ETC ALL OVER THE COUNTRY BOTH WITH AND WITHOUT OUR CAMPER ATTACHED AND BOTH WITH AND WITHOUT TOW-HAUL ENGAGED. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES AND EACH TIME THEY'VE UPDATED THE SOFTWARE ACCORDING TO SOME TSB THAT'S BEEN RELEASED. I'VE HAD THE DEFLECTOR PUT ON, CAM CHANGED, AND NOW THEY'RE REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
TOWING A 9500# FIFTH WHEEL TRAILER ON INTERSTATE COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER SHUDDERING AND INABILITY TO ACCELERATE.
WHILE ACCELERATING TO 75MPH OR SO, UP SLIGHT HILL FROM 65-70 MPH WENT TO PASS A VEHICLE THEN TRUCK LOST VAST MAJORITY OF POWER EVEN WITH ALL THE WAY DOWN AND BEGAN TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE. COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSE ACCIDENT SINCE WASN'T ABBLE TO ACCELERATE AS PLANNED TO MATCH SPEED OF OTHER LANE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHILE SPEEDING UP FROM A SERVICE ROAD TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC ON AN EXPRESS WAY AT APPROXIMATELY 55-60 MPH, MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO 80+ MPH IN A MATTER OF SECOND. I HIT THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE BRIEFLY DECREASE SPEED TO ABOUT 70 MPH BUT AS SOON AS I RELEASE THE BRAKE IT QUICKLY ACCELERATED TO 80+ MPH AGAIN. I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE A SECOND TIME BUT THE VEHICLE REACTED THE SAME WAY. I THEN SHIFTED THE GEAR INTO NEUTRAL AND HIT THE BRAKE AND EXIT THE EXPRESS WAY. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SLOW DOWN BUT THE ENGINE IDLE WAS STILL EXTREMELY HIGH AND THE ACCELERATOR DEPRESS ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. I PUMPED THE ACCELERATOR UNTIL THE IDLE REDUCE TO NORMAL. WHEN I FINALLY CAME TO A STOP, I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND GOT OUT AND MY BRAKES WERE EXTREMELY HOT AND SMOKING. I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD BUT COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING THAT INDICATED A PROBLEM. WE WERE TRAVELING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE RED BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. SHORTLY THEREAFTER LOSS OF POWER STEERING, LOSS OF STABILITY CONTROL (PER DASH INDICATOR), AND LOSS OF POWER BRAKES. THIS VEHICLE HAS A SLIGHT YET CONSISTENT KNOCK FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, PRIMARILY WHILE GOING OVER SMALL BUMPS OR CRACKS IN THE ROAD. IT FEELS AS THOUGH SOMETHING IS LOOSE OR WORN-OUT IN THE STEERING OR SUSPENSION. THE DEALERSHIP THAT SOLD THE VEHICLE CHECKED OUT THE TRUCK ON 9/23/2013 AND SAID EVERYTHING IS FINE. THIS IS A GRAVE CONCERN AS A FAILURE IN THE STEERING SYSTEM CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.

WHEN MERGING INTO I-75 TRAFFIC I PUSHED THE GAS TO ACCELERATE AND THE TRUCK SPUTTERED AND MISSED, LOST 90 PERCENT OF ITS POWER AND WENT INTO LIMP MODE. I WAS LUCKY I DIDN'T GET RAN OVER. THIS TRUCK HAS THE 3.5 LITER ECOBOOST ENGINE. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE WITH NO SUCCESS GETTING IT FIXED. IT IS AT THE DEALER NOW AND I AM HAVING TO PAY TO REPAIR THIS WELL KNOWN DEFECT. *TR
TRUCK HAS A 36 GALLON GAS TANK. FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT GO TO FULL WHEN FILLED. WHILE DRIVING FUEL GAUGE GOES TO EMPTY AND MESSAGE CENTER COMES ON LOW FUEL 10 MILES TO EMPTY. TANK STILL HAS 20 GALLONS OR MORE IN TANK. WHEN FILLING WITH GAS AFTER THIS HAPPENS THERE IS A HIGH PRESSURE RELEASE OF GAS FUMES FROM THE FILLER NECK WHEN PUMP NOZZLE IS PLACED IN THE NECK. AN AUDIBLE WHOOSH SOUND IS MADE AND THE BUILD UP OF GAS FUMES IS CONSISTENT WITH EVERY TIME THE GAUGE AND MESSAGE CENTER THINK THE TANK IS EMPTY. WHEN STARTING THE TRUCK AFTER THIS OCCURRENCE IT TAKES 2-3 TRIES BEFORE THE ENGINE WILL START. THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP WILL COME ON FOR 3-20 MINUTES BEFORE GOING OFF. THE FORD VEHICLE HEALTH REPORT READS "ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, AMP; EMISSIONS. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN SERVICED 8 TIMES WITH NO CORRECTIVE RESULTS. MY MAJOR CONCERN IS THE BUILD UP OF FUMES AND THE POSSIBILITY OF FIRE. IT APPEARS THAT FORD HAS KNOWN OF THIS PROBLEM WITH TRUCKS HAVING 36 GALLON TANKS SINCE 2008 BASED ON COMMENTS FROM OTHER OWNERS WHEN I GOOGLED MY PROBLEM. WAS ON THE INTERSTATE JUST WEST OF ST. LOUIS, DRIVING AT 70 MPH. WAS A DAMP RAINY DAY. PULLED IN TO THE PASSING LANE TO PASS A SEMI AND TRUCK LOST POWER, WENT INTO "LIMP MODE" WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. I PULLED BACK INTO MY LANE AND THEN OFF TO THE SHOULDER. TURNED THE TRUCK OFF AND SAT FOR 5 - 10 MINUTES. WHEN I POWERED IT BACK UP, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS OFF. I WAS ABLE TO PULL BACK ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND HAD FULL POWER FOR THE REST OF MY TRIP. ON I-20 EAST HEADED TO AUGUSTA, GA FROM ALABAMA I PULLED INTO THE LEFT LANE TO PASS AND THE ENGINE STARTS SPUTTERING, SKIPPING AND LOST ALMOST ALL POWER. IT HAPPENED 3 TIMES YESTERDAY. IT WAS IN A LIGHT RAIN AND SINCE THERE WAS LIGHT TRAFFIC I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN AND GET THE ENGINE TO RECOVER EACH TIME. THIS COULD BE A REAL DANGER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. ELECTRIC VACUUM PUMP WENT BAD RESULTING IN NO BRAKES UPON START UP. PEDAL BECAME ROCK SOLID WITH NO STOPPING POWER AT ALL. EXACTLY 14000 MILES AFTER THE FIRST PUMP WENT BAD, THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS TOOK PLACE. SECOND ONE " OUT OF WARRANTY" BECAUSE IT WAS OVER 3 YEARS OLD WITH ONLY 28,000 MILES. AFTER THE JULY 31 INCIDENT, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO FORD TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE ISSUES SOME OWNERS HAVE HAD ON THE ECO BOAST ENGINE, WHICH I HAVE. NO CODES APPEARED SO I WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING. THEN TALKED TO REGIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE AND GOT THE SAME STORY. I AM VERY CONCERNED AS I USE THE TRUCK TO TOW A 26' TRAILER. WHEN THE ECO BOAST TURBO WORKS, I HAVE PLENTY OF POWER TO MERGE OR PASS. THE ABOVE EXPERIENCE WAS SCARY AND I DID NOT HAVE THE TRAILER BEHIND ME AT THE TIME. NOW I FEEL I CAN NOT REASONABLY DEPEND ON IT TO WORK AS IT SHOULD. DRIVING 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, OVER A 1.5-2 HRS DRIVE, APPROACHING A HILL WHILE TOWING A CAMPER, ACCELERATED TO CLIMB THE HILL AND THE VEHICLE AGAIN, DROPPED FROM 65 TO 40 MPH IN ABOUT 30 SECONDS. TOOK VEHICLE INTO DEALERSHIP NO PROBLEM FOUND, ABOUT A WEEK LATER, THERE WAS AN INEFFICIENT CATALYTIC REQUIRING THE REPLACEMENT OF THE LEFT CATALYTIC CONVERTER. 2011 F150 ECOBOOST AT 57K MILES MID JULY 2013 EXPERIENCED VIOLENT SHUDDERING LOSE OF POWER PULLING UP HILL AT 60 MPH. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP WHERE REPAIR WAS LISTED AS #2 COIL PACK COSTED $277. NOW JAN 2014 SIX MONTHS AND 13K MILES LATER SAME EVENT. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON TWICE WHILE DRIVING TO WORK. USED ON BOARD DIAGNOSIC TOOL I HAD PURCHASED AND TRUCK CODED P0303 AS #3 CYLINDER MISFIRE OBVIOUSLY THE #3 COIL PACK HAS GONE BAD AT 70K MILES. *TR
ECOBOOST ENGINE. LOUD CLATTERING ON COLD START. RUNS VERY ROUGH, EXHIBITS PROPENSITY TO STALL WHEN IDLING, AND VERY SLUGGISH ACCELERATION COUPLED WITH TRANSMISSION ISSUES. EXAMPLE 1: COASTING ON THE FREEWAY WITH TRAFFIC AROUND 40MPH, SHIFTED LANES, THEN MADE ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE AND PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT DOWNSHIFT. ACCELERATOR WILL BE DOWN TO THE FLOOR, AND TRUCK WILL REMAIN STUCK IN A LOW GEAR (LIKE 6TH) AND GO NOWHERE...ZERO ACCELERATION...AFTER A FEW MORE TRIES, AND A FEW SECONDS LATER, THE TRANSMISSION WILL SLAM INTO 2ND GEAR, SHAKING THE ENTIRE TRUCK. AT THIS POINT, THE TURBOS KICK IN AND THE TRUCK TAKES OFF LIKE A ROCKET. CREATES 2 DANGEROUS SITUATIONS, A POTENTIAL REAR-END ACCIDENT BY THE LANE CHANGE WITHOUT ACCELERATION, AND THEN THE SUDDEN, RAPID, UNPREDICTABLE ACCELERATION OF BEING RANDOMLY THROWN INTO 2ND GEAR. SEEN VARIOUS OTHER INCIDENTS LIKE THIS IN OTHER SCENARIOS AND VARIOUS GEARS. ACCELERATING OUT OF A TRAFFIC CIRCLE, OR OUT OF A TURN, IS AN EASY WAY TO SEE THE PROBLEM. TRUCK HAS BASICALLY LOST ITS ABILITY TO ACCELERATE/DOWNSHIFT ON DEMAND. EXAMPLE 2: STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN. WHEN I THEN PROCEED INTO INTERSECTION...ACCELERATION IS VERY SLOW, THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN TURBOS KICK IN RESULTING IN RAPID UNPREDICTABLE ACCELERATION. OFTEN TIMES, THE WHEELS WILL SPIN, AND IF THE ROAD IS DRY, THE TRUCK WILL BOUNCE UP AND DOWN ALL OVER THE ROAD! ACCELERATOR WILL IN THE SAME POSITION THE ENTIRE TIME. I HAVE RAPIDLY ACCELERATED TOWARDS CARS THAT I DIDN'T WANT TO GET THAT CLOSE TO. I NOW HAVE TO STAY EVEN FURTHER AWAY FROM CARS TO MAINTAIN A SAFE DISTANCE DUE TO UNPREDICTABLE ACCELERATION. FRUSTRATING, BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS FREQUENT NOW, BUT INCONSISTENT. I HAVE 2 KIDS IN BOOSTER SEATS, AND NOW I HAVE TO BE ESPECIALLY CAREFUL WHEN I DRIVE WITH THEM IN THIS TRUCK BECAUSE I FEEL IT'S UNSAFE. *TR
VACUUM PUMP IS DEFECTIVE AND LOSES VACUUM WHICH CAUSES BRAKE BOOSTER TO LOSE PRESSURE AND CAUSES BRAKES TO BECOME DEFECTIVE UPON START-UP. PUMP WAS REPLACED ON 10/13, WHICH CORRECTED THE ISSUE FOR 4 MONTHS, PUMP WAS REPLACED AGAIN ON 6/14 AND IS NOW FAILING AND GIVING FAULT CODES AGAIN (7/14). *TR
