AFTER CRUISING AT 50 MPH FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES, TEMPERATURE OF 87 DEGREES WITH HIGH HUMIDITY, I ATTEMPTED TO PASS THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF ME. THE TRUCK ACCELERATED NICELY, THEN STUMBLED, STOPPED ACCELERATING AND STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING, INDICATING A MISFIRE. PROBLEM CORRECTED ITSELF AFTER 30 SECONDS AND TRUCK RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. *TR
JUST PURCHASED USED FORD F150 SUPERCREW WITH ECOBOOST ENGINE WITH 26,000+ MILES A WEEK AGO. I FIRST NOTICED A SHUDDER IN THE REAR END WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY A COUPLE DAYS AGO. FELT LIKE DRIVING OVER A WASHBOARD. DID NOT PAY A LOT OF ATTENTION TO IT AS I HAD NOT NOTICED IT BEFORE. WENT ON 575 MILE TRIP OVER THE WEEKEND AND THIS SHUDDERING PERSISTED WHILE PULLING UP TO STOPS AND STARTING OUT, BOTH TURNING AND GOING STRAIGHT. ONLY OCCURS 65% OF THE TIME BUT THE SHUDDERING IS VERY INTENSE AT LOW SPEED BUT APPEARS TO GET BETTER AT CRUISING SPEEDS. YOU CAN HEAR AND FEEL THE SHUDDERING. *TR
POOR BRAKING IN THE MORNING AT 29,212 MILES. FORD REPLACED BRAKE VACUUM PUMP ASSEMBLY AT NO CHARGE (UNDER WARRANTY). SAME PROBLEM AT 50,198 MILES. NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND I WAS CHARGED $319.66 FOR THE SAME PART. I FEEL THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS ASSEMBLY AND IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE.
VACUUM PUMP WILL FAIL ON TRUCK. WENT TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO GEAR. RELEASED THE BRAKE AND IT STARTED TO MOVE TOO QUICKLY. TRIED TO REAPPLY THE BRAKE AND THERE WAS NOTHING. PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND IT TOOK MAX EFFORT TO STOP THE VEHICLE THAT HAD JUST BEEN PUT INTO GEAR. THE PROBLEM COULDN'T BE REPLICATED. THIS HAPPENED TWICE MORE AND ONCE TO THE SERVICE TECH. VERY SCARY! TURNS OUT THE VACUUM PUMP HAD SEIZED CAUSING THERE TO BE NO POWER BOOST. ONCE THE ENGINE HAS RUN FOR A WHILE THE ENGINE WILL PROVIDE THE BOOST, IT'S ONLY WHEN FIRST STARTING THE VEHICLE THAT THERE IS NO BOOST. THERE IS NO WARNING LIGHT TO INDICATE THE LOW VACUUM CONDITION AND 90% OF THE TIME THERE ISN'T A NOTICEABLE PROBLEM. UNTIL THEY CAN'T STOP, THE OWNER DOESN'T KNOW THE PUMP HAD FAILED MONTHS EARLIER. THIS CAN BE QUITE DANGEROUS BECAUSE OF THE CHANCE OF A SLOW SPEED CRASH. CURRENTLY THERE IS A BACK ORDER ON THE PUMPS SO I HAVE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE KNOWING THAT I MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO STOP IN TIME. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING TO FLORIDA WITH FAMILY ON VACATION JUST COMING OUT OF MOUNTAINS OF TENNESSEE WENT TO PASS A 18 WHEELER HIT GAS WAS GOING 60 TRUCK STARTED SHAKING SLOWING DOWN HAD TRAFFIC BEHIND NO CEL LIGHT OR ANY OTHER WARNING LIGHT ON LET OFF GAS THREE TIMES BEFORE I COULD ACCELERATE NORMAL AGAIN THEN HAPPENED AGAIN IN FLORIDA ON I 75 ON RAMP HAD TO LET OFF TWO TIMES BEFORE COULD ACCELERATE. *TR
TRAVELING ON 4 LANE HIGHWAY DURING PERIOD OF TRAIN, ACCELERATED TO PASS VEHICLES, MY TRUCK ECO-BOOST MOTOR ACCELERATION STAGNATED AND VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHUTTER, WAS UNABLE TO PASS, DECELERATED AND STAGNATION STOPPED. INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN EVER I TRIED TO ACCELERATED DURING ACTIVE RAIN DURING A 9 HOUR INTERSTATE TRIP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE HE ATTEMPTED TO MERGE INTO HIGHWAY TRAFFIC AT 65 MPH THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO AVOID TWO NEAR CRASHES AND DRIVE SAFELY ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE LOSS OF POWER FAILURE WAS ALSO PREVIOUSLY EXPERIENCED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH AND THE WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
WHILE MERGING INTO TRAFFIC ON THE EXPRESSWAY TODAY IN MIAMI, AT ABOUT 35 MPH, I HAD TO ACCELERATE TO GET OUT OF THE MERGING LANE, AT WHICH TIME (FOR THE THIRD TIME SINCE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK IN 2011) THE TRUCK LOST ALL POWER TO THE ENGINE (A 3.5L ECOBOOST) AND BEGAN TO SPUTTER, SHAKE, AND DECELERATE. LUCKILY FOR MYSELF AND THE OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD I DID LEAVE A SUFFICIENT GAP BETWEEN MYSELF AND THE CAR TO MY REAR TO GIVE THAT VEHICLE TIME TO REACT TO WHAT EQUATES TO A VEHICLE PULLING OUT IN FRONT OF HIM/HER AND GENTLY PRESSING THE BRAKES WITHOUT THE BRAKE LIGHTS ENGAGING. MY TRUCK HOVERED BETWEEN 25 AND 30 MPH FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS WITH IT DOING THE SPUTTERING AND SLOWING THING EACH TIME I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE DURING THAT TIME PERIOD. AFTER PRETTY MUCH COASTING FOR 30 OR SO SECONDS, THE TRUCK SPRANG BACK TO LIFE AND DROVE AS ADVERTISED. FROM WHAT I'VE READ, THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT AND I (AS WELL AS OTHERS) BELIEVE FORD SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS DEFECT. I'M NOT LOOKING FOR A NEW TRUCK, I'D JUST LIKE THE PROBLEM FIXED. EVEN THOUGH NO DEATHS OR INJURIES HAVE BEEN REPORTED DUE TO THIS "YET", YOU CAN SEE THE DANGER OF HAVING YOUR ENGINE LOOSE POWER WHEN YOU NEED IT THE MOST. AS DESCRIBED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE13018- HARD ACCELERATION AND THE ENGINE MISFIRED WHILE TRYING TO PASS A VEHICLE ON A HIGHWAY. *TR
WE WERE TRAVELING ON A TWO LANE ROAD. WE WERE FOLLOWING A SLOW MOVING TRACTOR TRAILER. WE HAD BEEN TRAVELING FOR ABOUT 3 HOURS. IT HAD RAINED EARLIER AND WAS HUMID. I ACCELERATED TO PASS AND WAS PARTIALLY AROUND THE TRUCK WHEN THE ENGINE OF MY TRUCK STARTED MISFIRING AND LOST POWER. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO LIMP IT ALONG AND GET BACK INTO MY LANE BEFORE HAVING A PROBLEM WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE MOTOR IN MY TRUCK IS THE 3.5 LITER ECOBOOST. I HAVE SEEN REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING TO THIS MOTOR, BUT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED SO DRAMATICALLY TO MINE. I DON'T RECALL HAVING TRAVELED FOR ANY DISTANCE IN THESE CONDITIONS WITH THIS TRUCK. THE TRUCK IS SCHEDULED TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM LOOKED AT. IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THERE ARE DIFFERENT REPAIRS DEPENDING ON HOW THE TRUCK IS EQUIPPED. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS EVENT AND I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF BEFORE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED. I HAVE READ OF A POSSIBLE RECALL OF THE TRUCKS WITH THESE MOTORS TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. IT IS EVIDENT TO ME THAT THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE SOMEONE ISN'T AS LUCKY AS WE WERE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE INTER COOLER HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,500.
I OWN A 2011 FORD F-150 FX4 WITH THE 3.5L ECOBOOST ENGINE. APPROXIMATELY 18 MONTHS (ODOMETER 23,260) AFTER I BOUGHT IT I NOTICED THAT IN THE MORNING WHEN I WOULD START IT AND BEGIN DRIVING MY BRAKE PEDAL WOULD BE HARD AS A ROCK AND WOULD NOT WORK! I MADE AN APPT WITH MY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE VACUUM PUMP ASSEMBLY HAD NO PRESSURE AT THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND NEEDED REPLACE. FORTUNATELY I WAS NOT IN AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND THE REPAIRS DID NOT COST ME ANYTHING. FAST FORWARD ANOTHER 18 MONTHS (ODOMETER 44,693) TO MAY 2015 AND I WAS HAVING THE IDENTICAL ISSUE AGAIN. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO FORD AND AFTER TESTING THEY CONFIRMED THAT I WAS HAVING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE AGAIN AND THAT THE VACUUM PUMP ASSEMBLY FOR THE BRAKES WOULD NEED REPLACED YET AGAIN. ONLY THIS TIME I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND IT WAS GOING TO COST ME $900 TO FIX IT. I REMINDED THEM THAT THIS IS NOW THE 3 VACUUM PUMP ASSEMBLY THAT NEEDED REPLACED IN A SPAN OF 3 YEARS AND THAT THE DESIGN WAS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE AND SHOULDN'T COST ME ANYTHING. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO OFFER ANY ACCOMMODATIONS AND TOLD ME TO CONTACT FORD MOTOR COMPANY IF I WASN'T HAPPY. I DID THAT AND AFTER SOME HAGGLING THEY OFFERED TO REPLACE IT AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THEM $106, WHICH I DID. I HAVE THE FORD INVOICE'S FOR BOTH OCCURRENCES. I HAVE ZERO CONFIDENCE THAT THE ISSUE IS RESOLVED AND THAT I WILL LIKELY HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS ISSUE AGAIN IN THE NEAR FUTURE. I AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND THAT OF MY FAMILY CONSIDERING THE BRAKES COULD FAIL AT ANY TIME. I ALSO BELIEVE THIS TO BE AN EXACT MATCH TO CURRENT NHTSA INVESTIGATION PE15026. WHEN MY STEERING STARTED TO SHAKE WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES I REMOVED THE WHEEL AND BRAKE CALIPERS TO INSPECT THEM. THE INSIDE ROTOR SURFACE IS NOT AS WIDE AS THE OUTSIDE SO THE BRAKE PADS DO NOT CONTACT THE ENTIRE SURFACE OF THE ROTOR LIKE THE OUTSIDE. IT LOOKS TO ME LIKE THE ROTOR WAS DEFECTIVE WHEN INSTALLED. THE BRAKES HAVE 41000 MILES ON THEM AND ARE LESS THAN HALF WORN OUT. THEY ARE THE ORIGINAL BRAKES. *TR
THE TRUCK LOSES ACCELERATION WHEN SHIFTING TO A PASSING GEAR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, AND YOU HAVE NO POWER. THIS HAS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES. THE FORD DEALERSHIP HAS CHANGED OUT THE FUEL INJECTORS EACH TIME. IT IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX IT YET. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MERGE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROADWAY AND REGAIN ACCELERATION POWER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000. *TR
AT TIMES, I EXPERIENCE A SOFT BRAKE PEDAL THAT WILL TRAVEL ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. AND THEN AT TIMES I WILL HAVE A HARDER PEDAL WITHOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF THE PEDAL TRAVELING TO THE FLOOR. I HAVE HAD THE BRAKE FLUID FLUSHED AND THIS STILL HAPPENS ON OCCASION. I HAVE GONE THROUGH 3 SETS OF BRAKE PADS ON THE FRONT OF MY TRUCK IN 60,000 MILES. I CAN HEAR THE SECONDARY PUMP RUN FOR A LONGER DURATION AT TIMES DURING START UP AND IF I PUMP THE BRAKES WHILE STOPPED WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. WHEN I EXPERIENCE A SOFT PEDAL IT TRAVELS MUCH FURTHER BEFORE I WOULD COME TO A STOP COMPARED TO THE HARDER PEDAL FEEL. ALSO, AT TIMES IT FEELS AS IF THE HARDER PEDAL NEEDS MORE FORCE TO EXPERIENCE ANY "NORMAL" BRAKING POWER. AFTER EXPERIENCING THIS SITUATION, THEN SOME TIME LATER I WOULD EXPERIENCE A NORMAL BRAKE PEDAL. I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE SERVICED AT THE DEALER FOR THIS SITUATION FOR ABNORMAL BRAKE WEAR AND PEDAL FEEL, BUT STILL HAVE HAD NO FIX FOR THE ISSUE. I JUST REPLACED A FRONT BRAKE CALIPER AND I AM CURRENTLY WAITING TO SEE IF THIS RESOLVES THE ISSUE.
WAS HIGH SPEED ACCELERATING IN NJ FROM ONE HWY TO ANOTHER. LONG ON-RAMP. DURING ACCELERATION FROM ABOUT 40-45MPH TO GET TO 65 HIGHWAY SPEED, THE TRUCK ACCELERATION STOPPED TRUCK SHOOK, SPEED DECLINED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I LET OFF ACCELERATOR AND 3-4 SECONDS LATER SHAKING STOPPED AND CHECK ENGINE WENT OFF. I SLOWLY CAME BACK ON WITH ACCELERATOR AND ISSUE STOPPED. WEATHER CONDITIONS WAS RAINY/WET/HUMID ABOUT 60F ~ 1000AM. THIS IS 3RD TIME HAS HAPPENED. FIRST TIME WAS SHORTLY AFTER RECEIVING TRUCK NEW IN 2011 ~ APRIL IN SAME CONDITIONS AND SECOND TIME ABOUT 1 YEAR AFTER THAT. FIRST TIME AND THIS TIME I TOOK TO LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY FOUND NO CODES. THIS RECENT I ALSO STARTED LOSING MPG FROM NORMALLY ~16.9 MPG AND DOWN TO 12 MPG NOW. DEALER SAID THEY RELAYED INFO TO FORD AND SAID REPLACE SPARK PLUGS AS NO CODES. I HAVE OTHERS WHO HAVE SAME TRUCK BOUGHT FOR A COMPANY FLEET WITH SEQUENTIAL VIN'S THAT HAVE HAD SAME ISSUE AND HAD CATALYTIC CONVERTERS REPLACED. MY DEALER SAID FORD REFUSED. *TR
IT WAS RAINING VERY HARD, AND I HAD A CELL PHONE CALL COME IN. I WAS ON I-75 SOUTHBOUND. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD TO TAKE THE CALL. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES, I PUT THE TRUCK IN "DRIVE" AND STARTED TO PULL BACK ONTO I-75. AT ABOUT 25 MPH, I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR, AND IT SOUNDED LIKE THE TURBO WASTE GATE OPENED FULLY. THE TRUCK STOPPED MOVING FORWARD AND BEGAN TO SHAKE VERY HARD. THERE WERE 2 SEMI'S COMING TOWARD ME HONKING THEIR HORNS. I RELEASED THE ACCELERATOR AND STEERED TOWARD THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AGAIN. THE TRUCK LIMPED OFF THE HIGHWAY, STILL SHAKING, BUT WITH LESS VIGOR. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 2 MINUTES, THE IDLE SMOOTHED OUT SOMEWHAT, AND EVENTUALLY THE TRUCK RAN SMOOTHLY. IT TOOK ABOUT 5 MINUTES. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO BRONDES FORD IN MAUMEE TO HAVE IT CHECKED. I HAD AN APPOINTMENT FRIDAY, JUNE 14. WHEN I EXPLAINED WHAT HAD HAPPENED, THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID SHE WOULD HAVE TO CHECK WITH HER BOSS. SHE CAME BACK AND TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO, BECAUSE NO CODE LIGHTS WERE ON AND THE TRUCK WASN'T DOING IT NOW. I ASKED IF THEY COULD RUN A DIAGNOSTIC AND SHE SAID "NO, BRING IT WHEN IT'S DOING IT, AND WE'LL CHECK IT". IF IT HAPPENS IN FRONT OF 2 SEMI'S AGAIN, I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO BRING IT IN! I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED! I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY REFUSED TO EVEN RUN A DIAGNOSTIC ON IT! THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE IN MY MIND, BUT BRONDES FORD DOES NOT SEEM TO FEEL IT IS A PROBLEM. *TR
SPRING OF 2012 ACCELERATION FAILED WHEN OVERTAKING A SLOWER VEHICLE. MY SPEED WAS ABOUT 60 MPH. THIS HAPPENED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. 06/10/13. VEHICLE ENGINE BEGAN MISSING AND VIBRATING WHEN ACCELERATING AT ANY SPEED. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 45 MPH. HAVE SENT THE PICKUP TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION/REPAIR. *TR
THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, MY HUSBAND WAS PULLING OUT INTO A CENTER TURN LANE IN ORDER TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC AND THE MOTOR CUT OUT AND BOGGED DOWN. JUST FOUR DAYS LATER, I HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE WHERE THE MOTOR COMPLETELY CUT OUT WHILE I WAS GOING THROUGH A YIELD SIGN, SLOWING DOWN, AND THEN GETTING ON THE ACCELERATOR TO INCREASE SPEED. I COUNTED BETWEEN 3-5 SECONDS BEFORE THE TRUCK STARTED ACCELERATING AGAIN. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND HAD SOMEONE BEEN RIGHT BEHIND ME IT COULD'VE BEEN A BAD WRECK. IT HAPPENED TO ME THIS FIRST TIME RIGHT AFTER I PICKED MY TRUCK UP FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND THEM TELLING ME MY VIN DIDN'T QUALIFY FOR THE TSB WITH REPLACING THE CAC (INTERCOOLER) AND ADDING THE AIR DEFLECTOR PLATE. I HAVE SINCE GONE TO A SECOND DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE PERFORMING THE TSB FOR ME AFTER HAVING MY TRUCK FOR 5 DAYS NOW, AND BEING ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM EASILY. I HOPE THIS FIXES IT. I'VE ALREADY HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON AND MY DRIVER'S SIDE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED. I'VE HAD NUMEROUS LEAKS ALL UNDER THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY - FRONT MAIN SEAL, TRANSMISSION LEAK, REAR DIFF LEAK, AND EVEN SOME DETERIORATING RUBBER GASKETS IN THE DOORS, AND AM SERIOUSLY QUESTIONING FORD'S QUALITY THESE DAYS. *TR
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE BACK TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS AFTER SLOWING DOWN FOR A CAR LEAVING THE HIGHWAY, MY TRUCK LOST POWER AND STARTED TO SHUTTER. THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS FLASHING AND I WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I EXITED THE HIGHWAY AND AFTER ABOUT 2-3 MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE NORMALLY. CONDITIONS WERE WET AND THE TEMPERATURE WAS AROUND 70F. *TR
WHILE DRIVING WITH A 5,500 POUND CAMP TRAILER IN TOW THE VEHICLE DEVELOPED SIGNIFICANT VIBRATION AND FEED BACK FROM THE ROAD. THE PROBLEM CAME ABOUT AFTER APPROXIMATELY 20K MILES ON THE TRUCK. NOT SO MUCH WHEN COLD BUT I AM STILL ABLE TO GET ROAD FEEDBACK IN THE STEERING WHEEL AT LOWER TEMPS JUST NOT AS BAD. YOU CAN ESPECIALLY NOTICE THE VIBRATION/FEEDBACK IN COLDER TEMPS IF HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL AT ITS LOWEST POINT (BOTTOM OF WHEEL) WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY ALLEGE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE BACK NOW 4 SEPARATE TIMES AND ON THE LAST TIME I SHOWED THE SERVICE ADVISER HOW I CAN GRASP THE STEERING SHAFT IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND MANUALLY BY HAND TURN THE SHAFT BACK AND FORTH AS IF IN A STEERING MOTION AND YOU CAN HEAR A LOUD CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM SOMEWHERE EITHER IN THE RACK UNIT ITSELF OR THE STEERING SHAFTS. I AM NOT SURE WHERE THE NOISE IS ACTUALLY COMING FROM BUT CLEARLY IN THE STEERING ASSEMBLY SOMEWHERE. I HAVE GREAT CONCERN OVER SAFETY AND HAVE NOW READ MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS INCLUDING COMPLETE STEERING FAILURE. SOUNDS LIKE FORD DOES NOT EXACTLY KNOW HOW TO GO ABOUT REPAIRS AND SO RELUCTANT TO REPLACE ANY PARTS IN CASE THAT DOES NOT FIX ISSUE. WE JUST TOOK OUR F150 (ECOBOOST V-6) ON VACATION. ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION WE WERE TRYING TO ACCELERATE TO PASS OTHER VEHICLE'S AND WE LOST ALL POWER. WE MERGED INTO THE PASSING LANE AS WE WERE ACCELERATING AND WHEN I APPLIED MORE THROTTLE WE LOST SPEED AND POWER. AFTER THIS HAPPENED ONCE WE TRIED TO DUPLICATE IT WHEN WE ON THE INTERSTATE AND PRETEND WE WERE GOING TO PASS OTHER CARS. THE POWER LOSS HAPPENED ABOUT 50% OF THE TIME. I WAS DRIVING DOWN MY STREET AND BRAKED TO PULL INTO MY DRIVEWAY, AFTER IN MY DRIVEWAY I TOUCHED THE ACCELERATOR (TO GET UP THE SLIGHT GRADE) AND MY TRUCK WENT WIDE OPEN THROTTLE!! I HAD A STATE TROOPER CERTIFIED IN DOWNLOADING EVENT RECORDER DATA DO SUCH TO MY TRUCK. THE DATA SHOWS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED..BUT DOES NOT DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN THE ACCELERATOR BEING PUSHED VS.THE ACCELERATOR POSITION AS INDICATED. HOWEVER, IT DOES SHOW SERVICE BRAKE APPLIED AND CONTINUAL ACCELERATION AT THE SAME TIME WHICH I CAN PROVE WAS NOT DONE BY ME! I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER CARE, BUT THEY COULDN'T HELP ME. I CHECKED SAFERCAR.GOV AND FOUND OUT THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE BRAKES OF THIS TRUCK. FORD DIDN'T CARE AND TOLD ME TO HAVE THE REPAIRS MADE TO MY TRUCK AND KEEP THE RECEIPT INCASE THEY ISSUED A RECALL. I WOULD BE REIMBURSE. THIS 2011 F150 HAS HAD MORE ISSUES THAN ANY NEW VEHICLE EVER SHOULD, BUT THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. WHEN GOOGLE SEARCHING THE ISSUE, F!50 STEERING POPPING KNOCKING, THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS CAN BE FOUND REGARDING THIS EXACT ISSUE. AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT HAPPENS IS THIS: TRAVELING ALONG AT 45MPH, AND PULL OUT TO OVERTAKE A SLOWER VEHICLE, YOU ACCELERATE AGGRESSIVELY. UPON DOING THIS, THE TRUCK SEEMS TO STUMBLE LIKE IT'S HUNTING FOR THE APPROPRIATE GEAR (@ ABOUT 45- 50MPH). ALSO, IT FEELS LIKE AN ENGINE MIS-FIRE. IT'S A DISCONCERTING FEELING THAT THE TRUCK DOES NOT ACCELERATE AS IT SHOULD WHEN YOU NEED IT THE MOST. *TR
AS WE WERE DRIVING THROUGH LEXINGTON KENTUCKY ON RT 75 NORTH, TOWING OUR ENCLOSED CAR TRAILER WITH OUR MUSTANG INSIDE. IT WAS RAINING PRETTY HARD AND THERE WERE 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC ON A RATHER STEEP GRADE, THE TRUCK WENT INTO LIMP MODE AS WE ATTEMPTED TO CHANGE LANES ON THE FREEWAY TO ALLOW TRAFFIC TO MERGE FROM AN ON RAMP. I HAD JUST READ ABOUT A FEW INCIDENTS WHERE THIS SAME THING HAD HAPPENED TO OTHERS BEFORE WE HAD LEFT ON THIS TRIP. THE TRUCK DROPPED TO ABOUT 30 MILES PER HOUR, I HAD TO MANEUVER TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC TOWING A 20' LONG TRAILER IN A HEAVY RAIN STORM. WE STOPPED THE TRUCK, SHUT IT OFF, AS DESCRIBED IN THE FORUMS I HAD READ ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM, AND LET IT SET FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES. IT RESTARTED FINE AND RAN GOOD THE REST OF THE WAY BACK TO OHIO. WHEN WE RETURNED HOME I TOOK THE TRUCK INTO THE DEALERSHIP WE PURCHASED IT FROM AND THEY SAID BECAUSE THE COMPUTER SHOWED NO CODES THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK, I WAS PREPARED FOR THAT WITH THE ARTICLES THAT I HAD READ AND I SAID FIX IT OR I'LL FILE A SUIT AGAINST THE DEALERSHIP AND FORD! THE MILEAGE HAD DROPPED FROM ABOUT 16-17 MPG IN THE CITY TO ABOUT 11 MPG IN THE CITY, IT TOOK THEM SUPPOSEDLY UNTIL AUGUST TO "GET THE PARTS IN" SO FAR IT'S BEEN FINE BUT I HAVEN'T HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO DUPLICATE THE SITUATION AGAIN. *JS
WHILE ACCELERATING FROM THE EZ-PASS LANE AT A NJ TOLL PLAZA, WITH NO WARNING, THE TRUCK EXPERIENCED A VIOLENT SHUDDER AND COMPLETE STALL (ENGINE POWER LOSS). ALTHOUGH THE POWER DID COME BACK UP WITHIN 3 SECONDS, IT WAS VERY FRIGHTENING AND I FELT MY FAMILY WAS IN DANGER WITH VEHICLES COMING UP BEHIND US QUICKLY. LUCKILY, WE WERE ABLE TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY.
ACCELERATING ONTO FREEWAY VEHICLE MISS FIRED AND STARTED TO SPUTTER AND SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING, PULLED VEHICLE OVER TURNED IT OFF AND WAITED 5 MINUTES TO CHECK MANUAL. RESTARTED AND NO PROBLEMS. FEW DAYS LATER STARTED TO PASS A VEHICLE ON INCLINE AND THE VEHICLE DID THE EXACT SAME THING AGAIN. REPEATED TURN OFF AND REST CONTINUED DRIVE NO PROBLEMS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHILE DRIVING DUE TO THE MASSIVE SHAKING AND LACK OF VEHICLE POWER TO MOVE WITH TRAFFIC. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY COULD REPLICATE INCIDENT, HOWEVER CAN'T SEEM TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF FORD MOTOR CO. BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED IN TRAFFIC ACCIDENT DUE TO LOSS OF VEHICLE POWER.3.5L ECOBOOST FX4 F150 CREWCAB. *TR
ELECTRONIC POWER ASSISTED STEERING (EPAS) ON 2011 FORD F150 ECOBOOST SHIMS/KNOCKS/VIBRATES AT SPEEDS UP TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS (55 MPH). NOT SURE IF IT IS SAFE OR NOT? BUT STEERING IS A MAJOR COMPONENT OF A VEHICLE. I DID NOT FEEL TOTALLY SAFE AS FORD HAS HAD SOME ISSUES WITH PAST VEHICLES THAT POSSIBLE PRONE TO ACCIDENTS THAT INVOLVED STEERING. IT ONLY OCCURS AT TEMPS ABOVE 75 F. TOOK VEHICLE IN COUPLE TIMES, BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. ONLY WHEN TEMPS ROSE ABOVE 75F AND TECHNICIAN WAS ABLE TO EXPERIENCE THE ISSUE. LOCAL DEALER STATED IT WAS STRUTS, BUT AFTER SEVERAL VISITS TO THE F-150 BLOG SITE, THE ISSUE WAS DESCRIBED AS THE EPAS RACK THAT CANNOT KEEP UP WITH THE COMPUTER CHANGES WHILE TEMPS ABOVE APPROX 75F. THE REPLACEMENT PART #DL3Z3504BE GEAR ASSEMBLY EPAS (THIS IS THE 4TH VERSION OF THIS COMPONENT FORD HAS USED IN THEIR F150S) WAS REPLACED 17 JUNE 13. FORD COVERED ONLY $400 OF THE $1500 TOTAL REPAIR. FROM MY RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, THERE SEEMS TO BE A ISSUE WITH 2011 FORD F-150 ECOBOOST EPAS. I DID NOT FIND AND TSB OR SAFETY BULLETINS AS OF TODAY. *TR
ON FRIDAY 4/12/2013 I WAS IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I WAS DRIVING MY 2011 FORD F-150 HOME FROM A NIGHT OUT WITH THE FAMILY. IT WAS KIND OF LATE, WHEN I RAN OVER AN EXHAUST PIPE, WHICH WAS LAYING ON THE ROAD. I DID NOT SEE IT. IT WAS A FAIRLY SMALL PIPE. ONCE I STOPPED I REALIZED THAT IT PUT A HOLE IN MY FUEL TANK. AND IT WAS GUSHING OUT FUEL. IT WAS COMING OUT FASTER THAN WATER FROM A KITCHEN TAP. LUCKILY I WAS ONLY TWO BLOCKS FROM HOME, RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM A FIRE STATION. I WAS ABLE TO GET MY TRUCK HOME, ONCE THE FUEL WAS OUT OF THE TANK. THERE WAS A SPLIT IN THE TANK ABOUT 6 INCHES LONG, LIKE IT HAD BEEN CUT WITH A VERY SHARP KNIFE. THIS IS A PLASTIC FUEL TANK. WHEN I LOOK UP FUEL TANK PART NUMBER 9L3Z-9002-B ON FORD PARTS DOT COM FOR MY TRUCK THEY ALSO SHOW A SKID PLATE NUMBER 9A147. MY TRUCK DOES NOT HAVE THIS PART. THE FUEL TANK IS AN OBSOLETE PART THERE ARE ONLY 4 IN THE NATION AVAILABLE. I AM LOOKING. NOT HAVING THIS PART IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
WHEN I'M ACCELERATING THE ENGINE STALLS, I MAY BE LEAVING A STOP SIGN CLIMBING OVER AN OVERPASS OR PASSING ANOTHER SLOWER VEHICLE. SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN ABOUT 40MPH TO 70MPH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AND LOST ACCELERATION POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE COILS SPRING WAS REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES; HOWEVER THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO VIBRATE AND WOULD ALSO STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 108,163. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
