WHILE TRAVELING WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC (40-45 MILES) AN HOUR I HAD A COLLISION WITH CARS IN FRONT OF ME. AS A RESULT OF THE COLLISION I WAS KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS. DAZED AND INJURED I COULD NOT RECALL THE DETAILS OF THE MOMENTS JUST BEFORE THE COLLISION, TO THE POLICE. ALL THAT I COULD REMEMBER WAS TRYING DESPERATELY TO STOP THE VEHICLE BUT IT WOULD NOT STOP. AFTER THE ACCIDENT NO ONE SEEMS TO BELIEVE ME AND EVEN MY INSURANCE CARRIER IS NOT INTERESTED IN LOOKING INTO THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE BRAKES FAILED OR THE CRUISE CONTROL MALFUNCTIONED. *TR THE CONSUMER REFERENCED NHTSA ACTION NUMBER EA15006. TRUCK IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ECO-BOOST MOTOR. UPON PUTTING TRUCK IN REVERSE AND BACKING DOWN DRIVEWAY, THE BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE PEDAL WAS HARD TO PUSH AND ACTED AS IF SOMETHING WAS STUCK UNDER PEDAL. DRIVER WENT INTO NEIGHBORS YARD AND BEFORE STRIKING THE HOUSE, PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK TO STOP. THERE WAS NO OBJECTS BEHIND PEDAL. AFTER RE-STARTING VEHICLE A FEW MINUTES LATER, BRAKES THEN WORKED AS DESIGNED. THE TRUCK WAS BROUGHT TO DEALER WERE THE ABS SYSTEM WAS BEING LOOKED AT. AFTER A WEEK OF MISS-DIAGNOSING, VEHICLE OWNER WAS TOLD TO PICK UP VEHICLE AND EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE IN THE DEALER PARKING LOT AND SHOWED THE MECHANIC AND SERVICE WRITER AND THEY CONCURRED THAT THERE WAS A REAL SAFETY PROBLEM. UPON LEAVING IN RENTAL CAR, VEHICLE OWNER WITNESSED A PORTER CRASH VEHICLE INTO A PARKED CAR. IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY WAS FAULTY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE SEEM TO LOSE POWER I PULL OVER TO SEE IF SOMETHING MAJOR WAS WRONG BUT NOTHING I CAN TELL. I TOOK IT FOR SERVICE THEY TOLD ME THE VEHICLE NEEDED UPDATES. A MONTH LATER TOOK ANOTHER ROAD TRIP THE SAME THING HAPPEN, THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. IT HAPPEN ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WITH VEHICLE DRIVING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED AND FOR MY TRUCK JUST LOSES POWER AND SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE DEFROSTER WAS ACTIVATED, HE NOTICED THAT THE REAR WINDOW BEGAN MELTING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE GLASS AND DEFROSTER WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,600. *TR
I OWN A 2011 F150 3.5L TURBO ECOBOOST TRUCK. IT HAS CAUSE ME NOTHING BUT GRIEF! VIOLENT HESITATION/SHAKING ON HIGHWAY WHEN PASSING. LOSE OF POWER WITH ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON LEFT ME ON THE ROAD TWICE. FINALLY ENGINE BLOCK EXPLODED WITH A ROD SHOOTING OUT OF ENGINE. OIL SPAYED ALL OVER ENGINE CREATING THICK BLACK SMOKE AND POOR VISIBILITY. PULLED OVER HAD TO GET OUT OF THE TRUCK BECAUSE SMOKE WAS INSIDE. COUNTLESS FORD ATTEMPTS TO FIX THE ISSUE AND NOTHING WORKED. EVENTUALLY THE WHOLE ENGINE WAS REPLACED. I JUST RECEIVED MY TRUCK BACK AND HAVE LOST TOTAL FAITH IN THIS PRODUCT. WHEN GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN START TO GET SHUTTER AT 4100 RPM THROUGH 2ND GEAR AND THEN WHEN IT IS IN 3RD GEAR AT THE SAME RPM IT WILL SHUTTER EVEN WORSE AND THEN SOMETIMES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON AND START BLINKING FOR UP TO A MIN AND THEN THE TRUCK WILL NOT MOVE AT ALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED ON THE ENGINE IDLED EXCESSIVELY AND THE BEGAN TO SMOKE. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE ALSO STALLED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH. THE CONTACT WAS A ABLE TO DRIVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND RESTART THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED AND THE RPMS INCREASED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TURBO CHARGER LINE; YET, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 23,800.
VEHICLE HAS A PARASITIC DRAIN ON THE BATTERY. WITHIN 12 TO 36 HOURS THE BATTERY WILL BE COMPLETELY DRAINED OF POWER. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN INTO FORD SERVICE 4 TIMES AND THE ISSUE IS UNRESOLVED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT CONTINUOUSLY DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE ABNORMALLY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER SEVERAL TIMES. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR COOLER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
ISSUE STARTED AGAIN ON 10 AUG. 2013. WHEN UNDER MILD TO HEAVY ACCELERATION (SUCH AS MERGING ONTO INTERSTATES) THE ENGINE DEVELOPS A SIGNIFICANT MISS AND SHUDDER. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ONCE ON 20 MAR. 2013 UNDER TSB # 13-3-3. *TR WEATHER DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A FACTOR. THE "MISS" WAS SO SEVERE WITH A K&N AIR CHARGER HIGH-FLOW INTAKE KIT INSTALLED THAT I HAD TO REINSTALL THE STOCK SYSTEM. THIS WAS A NONE ISSUE EVENTUALLY BECAUSE THE FORD DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT PLACE THE VEHICLE ON DIAGNOSTICS UNTIL I HAD REINSTALLED THE STOCK KIT.
GENERALLY SPEAKING WITH A NEW VEHICLE I "BABY" A NEW VEHICLE UNTIL I GET OVER 75,000 MI. FIRST INCIDENT - NOTICED AROUND 40,000 MI. WHEN ACCELERATING TO PASS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE VEHICLE SHUDDERS AND DOESN'T HAVE POWER. THOUGHT IT WAS BAD GAS, TURBO LAG, OR INTERMITTENT TRANSMISSION ISSUE. PROBLEM OCCURRED A FEW TIMES OVER THE YEARS, EVERY TIME WAS DURING ACCELERATION TO PASS OR MERGE ON TO EXPRESSWAY CONDITIONS. KEEP IN MIND SINCE I WAS IN THE BABYING MILEAGE RANGE I RARELY PERFORMED SUCH ACCELERATION. BUT AFTER A COUPLE OF OCCURRENCES, I DISCUSSED THIS WITH A FRIEND THAT ALSO OWNS AN ECOBOOST AND HE THOUGHT THE SAME REASONS. I HAVE 7 YEAR 100,000 EXTENDED WARRANTY SO I THOUGHT I WOULD WAIT UNTIL THE PROBLEM OCCURRED FREQUENTLY ENOUGH TO EASILY TROUBLE SHOOT. OF COURSE FREQUENCY WOULDN'T BE ENOUGH UNTIL AFTER I GET OUT OF THE "BABY" STAGE ON MILEAGE. CURRENTLY THE VEHICLE HAS OVER 75,000 MILES. I NO LONGER BABY IT. PROBLEM OCCURS EVERY TIME I ACCELERATE TO PASS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ALSO, I HAVE HAD THE PROBLEM WHEN ACCELERATING TO ENTER HIGHWAY TRAFFIC FROM RAMP. THE RAMP OCCURRENCE APPEARS TO BE WHEN I'M AT A SPEED AND THEN ACCELERATE. NOT SURE IF THE PROBLEM HAPPENS WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP OR SLOW SPEED. I'M CONCERNED THIS MAY LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT AND POTENTIAL A LIFE THREATENING OR CHANGING EVENT. WHAT IS ONE LIFE WORTH? I GUESS THAT DEPENDS ON IF ITS YOURS. I BELIEVE THIS IS A LIFE THREATENING EVENT AND KNOW THAT DRIVERS LIKE MYSELF ONCE AWARE PAY ATTENTION AND PROCEED WITH CAUTION AND THIS IS THE REASON THERE HASN'T BEEN LIFE LOST, OR NO ONE HAS PROVEN THIS WAS THE ROOT CAUSE TO ACCIDENTS THAT HAVE OCCURRED. I FEAR FOR THOSE WHO ARE NOT AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND THAT THEY MAY DISCOVER IT AT THE WRONG TIME. PLEASE DO SOMETHING TO HELP. *TR
MY FORD F150 ECO BOOST LOST POWER SUDDENLY WHILE TRYING TO ENTER A RURAL ROUTE AT A STOP SIGN.WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE IT JUST DIED FOR SEVERAL SECONDS AND THEN TOOK OFF SINCE I WAS PUSHING ON THE ACCELERATOR WONDERING WHAT HAD JUST HAPPENED .THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SHUDDERING A LOT ON ACCELERATION NOW WITH A SUBSTANTIAL LOSS OF FUEL ECONOMY . I HAVE PERSONALLY HAD IT AT TWO FORD DEALERSHIP WHICH SAY THEY CAN FIND NO PROBLEM WITH IT , BUT SHOP FOREMAN TOLD ME AND MY WIFE WE WHERE STUCK WITH IT AND TO FIX IT BY PULLING THE BATTERY CABLE OFF EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE. *TR
UNDER HARD ACCELERATION ON THE HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO CUT OUT AND MISFIRE, THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE INNERCOOLER HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NOW, AT ROUGHLY 55,000 MILES IT HAS BEGUN TO DO IT AGAIN, I HAD NOTICED IT SOME BEFORE, BUT NOW IT IS WORSE. I TOOK MY 2011 F150 WITH THE ECOBOOST TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN AND THEY SAID A TSB HAD BEEN WRITTEN AND THEY CHANGED THE REPLACED THE LOWER AIR DEFLECTOR. THIS ACTUALLY MADE THE PROBLEM WORSE. AT WIDE OPEN THROTTLE FROM A STOP TO ABOUT 80 MPH, EVERY GEAR WILL CUT OUT AND SOMETIMES PUT THE ENGINE INTO A PROTECTION MODE BEGINNING AROUND 4,000 RPM. IF IT SHAKES AND SHUDDERS MADE ENOUGH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL FLASH, AND NOW IT HAS COME ON AND STAYED ON. IT HAS BEEN VERY DANGEROUS IF I PULL OUT TO MAKE A PASS AND THEN THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN AND I CAN NO LONGER ACCELERATE. THIS HAS HAPPENED DOZENS OF TIMES, AND HAS BEEN ADDRESSED TWICE NOW BY THE DEALERSHIP WITHOUT ANY FIX. *TR
WHEN ACCELERATING MY F150 CUTS OUT AND HESITATES ALONG WITH A ROUGH IDLE. I HAVE TAKEN TO LOCAL FORD DEALER AND IT SHOWS TO BE A MISFIRING ISSUE IN 4 OF 6 CYLINDERS. FORD RECOMMENDED REPLACING A COUPLE OF PARTS, BUT IT DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. THE PRINTOUT GIVEN TO ME SAID IT MAY OR MAY NOT FIX THE ISSUE AND WAS UNDER FURTHER INVESTIGATION WITH FORD ENGINEERS. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN MAINTAINED ON TIME WITH SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES, ETC...THE TRUCK NOW HAS 75K MILES AND HAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY UP TO 125K MILES. EACH TIME THE TRUCK HAS BEGUN TO MISFIRE AND STALL OUT THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND HAS HEAVY VIBRATION UNTIL STOPPING AND RESTARTING THE TRUCK. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS BECAUSE THEY WERE ALL BURNED OUT WHICH SEEMED TO HELP, BUT CONTINUES TO IDLE ROUGH. IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THEY BURN OUT AGAIN. I SPOKE WITH SOMEONE FROM FORD AND THEY OFFERED ME NO HELP OTHER THAN TO STAY IN TOUCH WITH MY DEALERSHIP WHICH WHO KNOWS WHEN FORD WILL RELEASE A FIX. I NOW PAY FOR A TRUCK THAT I BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR AND DOES NOT RUN CORRECTLY. EVERYONE THAT RIDES WITH ME HAS SAID, "MAN WHY DOES YOUR TRUCK IDLE LIKE THIS?" MY TRUCK STICKERED FOR $41,460. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE TO HAVE A NICE LOOKING TRUCK THAT DOESN'T PERFORM UP TO PAR. *TR
2011 FORD F150 FX4 ECO BOOST ROAD CONDITIONS - DRY. EXTERNAL TEMPERATURE - APPROXIMATELY 35F. HIGHWAY ON RAMP ACCELERATING TO MERGE. THE MOTOR HESITATED FOR A FEW SECONDS BEFORE KICKING IN, THE FRONT END FELT LIKE IT WAS SLIPPING WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE AS WELL. AS THE TRUCK PASSED APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL. I HAD TO KEEP THE TRUCK AROUND 45 MPH TO AVOID THE SHAKING FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES BEFORE IT STOPPED AND THE ENGINE LIGHT TURNED OFF. I NOTICED A SLIGHT BURNING SMELL AND THE ENGINE DIDN'T SOUND LIKE IT DID PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. IF SOMEONE HAD BEEN BEHIND ME ON THE RAMP, OR I WAS PASSING A VEHICLE IN POOR ROAD CONDITIONS OR IN BUSY TRAFFIC THERE IS A STRONG POSSIBILITY I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OF SOME SORT, MOST LIKELY A REAR END COLLISION. *TR
ON I-70 NEAR ST. LOUIS, I WAS IN THE INSIDE LANE AND WHEN I PRESS THE GAS PEDAL TO PASS WITH MY F-150 ECOBOOST, THE TRUCK LOST POWER AND HAD ALMOST COMPLETELY SHUT ITSELF OFF AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD TO SHUT IT DOWN AND LET IT SET FOR ALMOST 20 MINUTES BEFORE IT WOULD RESTART CORRECTLY AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF. BY LUCK I HAD ENOUGH ROOM TO MOVE OVER ON THE MEDIAN OF THE HIGHWAY. *TR
AFTER RUNNING A LONG HIGHWAY RUN I WAS COMING OFF AN ON RAMP AND STEP ON THE THROTTLE TO MERGE. THE MOTOR HESITATED FOR FEW SECONDS BEFORE IT KICKED IN. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BY THE CAR BEHIND ME. THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THEY ARE WORKING ON A FIX. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED NOW BEFORE SOMEONE DIES IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS ISSUE. *TR
OCCASIONALLY WHEN STEERING THE TRUCK TO THE LEFT, THE STEERING WILL FEEL LIKE IT IS STICKING. IT BECOMES HARD TO TURN TO THE LEFT AND WHEN THE TURN IS COMPLETE, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT RETURN TO CENTER. ON ONE OCCASION WHEN I FIRST STARTED THE TRUCK AND BEGAN TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING PLACE, I COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT AT ALL. I SHUT THE TRUCK OFF THEN RESTARTED AND THE SAME THING. ON THE SECOND TIME I SHUT THE TRUCK OFF THEN RESTARTED, I COULD TURN THE WHEEL NORMALLY. THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING OR SOME MECHANISM OF THE STEERING. *TR

MY 2011 ECOBOOST F150 WOULD SPUTTER, SHAKE AND CHUG AS I DO A HARD ACCELERATION ENTERING A HIGHWAY OR PASS A VEHICLE. 4 TIMES I HAVE HAD MY TRUCK FOR SERVICE WITH THE LAST 12 MONTHS FOR THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. MY ENGINE LIGHT WILL FLASH SEVERAL TIMES AND THEN IT WILL STAY ON TILL I TAKE THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE. 2 TIMES THE DEALER HAS TOLD ME THE PROBLEM IS A TURBO COOLER ISSUE AND WANT TO CHARGE ME $200 FOR SOME CHEAP LICK AND STICK PLASTIC AIR DEFLECTOR. THE OTHER 2 TIMES THEY HAVE SAID I HAVE A BAD DISTRIBUTION WIRE AND PLUG. FIRST WAS ON CYLINDER 3 AND SECOND TIME ON CYLINDER 1. EVERY TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED ON A HARD ACCELERATION, ITS BEEN DURING HEAVY TRAFFIC AND I HAVE HAD TO PULL OF THE ROAD TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE TO NOW BE VERY CAUTIOUS WHEN ACCELERATING AS I FEEL THIS TRUCK IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I HOPE SOMEONE CAN GET THIS RECALLED AS I KNOW THERE IS A LOT OF THESE TRUCKS OUT THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
RELATED TO THE F-150 ECOBOOST INVESTIGATION : PE 13-018 DATE OPENED: 05/22/2013. MY TRUCK HAD THE SAME INTERMITTENT STUMBLE/MISFIRE ON ACCELERATION DESCRIBED IN THE INVESTIGATION ABOVE. I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY EARLY MORNING DURING A HEAVY RAIN STORM. AS I ACCELERATED TO PASS A CAR THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND LOST ALL POWER. I WAS FORCED TO CUT A VEHICLE OFF TO PULL OVER AND SHUT THE TRUCK OFF. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT AND BRING IT TO THE DEALER WHO TOLD ME THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT. *TR
BRAKES ARE INEFFECTIVE IN A PANIC STOP. ON DRY PAVEMENT THE BRAKES CANNOT BE APPLIED HARD ENOUGH TO LOCK THE WHEELS AND ACTIVATE THE ABS FUNCTION. STOPPING DISTANCES ARE MUCH LONGER THAN NORMAL AND SAFE. COMPARED TO OTHER F150'S WITH HE SAME BODY STYLE AND ENGINE THE BRAKES ARE DRASTICALLY DIFFERENT AND MUCH WORSE IN STOPPING DISTANCES (ROUGH TEST STOP FROM 30 MPH IN 28 FT COMPARED TO 15 FT, STOP FROM 40 MPH IN 46FT COMPARED TO 28 FT) DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED REPAIR 4 TIMES WITH NO IMPROVEMENT AT ALL AND NOW FORD HAS DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKES ARE FUNCTIONING NORMALLY AND THAT "SOME TRUCKS WILL STOP BETTER THAN OTHERS". IF THIS IS IN FACT TRUE THERE MAY BE MANY F150'S ON THE ROAD WITH SUBSTANDARD BRAKES WHICH THE OWNERS MAY NOT SUSPECT BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT BEEN TESTED IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS. MY VEHICLE IS DRAMATICALLY WORSE THAN OTHER F150'S THAT I HAVE DRIVEN AND I AM BEING TOLD THAT IT IS FUNCTIONING NORMALLY. NORMAL IN THIS INSTANCE IS NOT SAFE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE BATTERY WAS DISENGAGED AND RECONNECTED. AFTER WAITING TEN MINUTES, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE REPROGRAMMED THE TRANS/COMPUTER AND PUT A WIND DEFLECTOR IN THE FRONT OF THE INTERCOOL. STILL LOST POWER ON A ROAD TRIP ON THE WAY BACK HOME FROM S CAROLINA. MIND YOU THE TRUCK WAS IN THE SHOP FOR TRAN/ENGINE/THE RIGHT FENDER HAD TO BE ADJUSTED IT WAS MISALIGNED, THE BED OF THE TRUCK SAME THING. AFTER SEVERAL REPAIR ATTEMPTS AND A STARTER REPLACEMENT, THE FORD DEALERSHIP NOW TELLS ME IT IS THE SENSOR ON THE VEHICLES LEAD FRAME AND THAT THE ENTIRE THING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I SEARCHED FOR THE ISSUE AND FOUND THE RECALL THAT MATCHES MY ISSUES AS WELL AS MY TRUCK'S MAKE, MODEL, YEAR, TRANSMISSION TYPE, AND MANUFACTURE LOCATION. I HAD TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION AND GET BACK INTO MY LANE WHERE THERE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SPUTTER FOR APPROXIMATELY ANOTHER 2 MINUTES. I TOOK TRUCK TO FORD AND THEY REPLACED A CONVERTER AND COOLER. LAST WEDNESDAY UNDER SIMILAR CONDITIONS, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN ON A VACATION TRIP. ONCOMING TRAFFIC HAD TO EVADE ME AS I TRIED TO GET BACK INTO MY LANE. IT HAS BEEN LESS THAN 10, 000 MILES SINCE LAST ATTEMPTED REPAIR WAS PERFORMED BY DEALER. WE WERE MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY OUTSIDE OF ST. LOUIS MO AND WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS FULLY DEPRESSED THE ENGINE STARTED TO MISFIRE AND POWER WAS REDUCED. A BLINKING CEL WAS DISPLAYING ON THE DASHBOARD. IT SEEMED AS THOUGH THE TURBO SYSTEM WAS NOT ADDING ANY EXTRA CHARGE TO THE AMBIENT AIR. THIS SMOOTHED THE MISFIRE AND WE HAD AN ADEQUATE AMOUNT OF POWER TO KEEP UP WITH TRAFFIC. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES EVERYTHING SMOOTHED OUT AND THE MISFIRE WAS GONE. TRUCK BEHAVIOR RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE WEATHER THAT DAY WAS A PLEASANT 60 DEGREES AND SUNNY. THE PREVIOUS DAY WE DROVE FROM CENTRAL OHIO TO ST. LOUIS THROUGH MUCH RAIN AND FOG. IT HAS 50K AND THE OIL WAS CHANGED REGULARLY, BUT THE DEALER IS SAYING THERE IS SLUDGE IN THE OIL WHICH WAS CHANGED LESS THAN 2000 MILES AGO. THE TIMING CHAIN IS STRETCHED, THE INTAKE CAM VTC IS BROKEN AND BASED ON ALL OF THE OTHER SIMILAR POST I'VE BEEN READING ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE THEY HAVE REVEALED THAT THE ROD AND CAM BEARINGS ARE ALSO MORE THAN LIKELY PREMATURELY WORN, REQUIRING A NEW ENGINE TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE.
WHEN TURNING LEFT SOMETIMES THE STEERING LOCKS UP. WHEN THIS IS HAPPENING IF I WERE TO TAKE MY HANDS OFF THE STEERING WHEEL THE TRUCK WOULD CONTINUE LOCKED IN A LEFT TURN. WHEN THIS HAPPENS I MUST FORCE THE STEERING WHEEL BACK TO NEUTRAL POSITION. IF ON AN UNEVEN SURFACE THIS APPEARS TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN. HAVE TAKEN TRUCK TO DEALERSHIP TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE. BUT NOTHING WAS DONE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. THIS HAPPENS AT ALL SPEEDS AND HAS OCCURRED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AS WELL AS AT SLOWER SPEED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DESCENDING A STEEP GRADE, THE RPMS GREATLY INCREASED AND THE VEHICLE ERRONEOUSLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE ENGINE HOLD BACK DISENGAGED. ONCE THE RPMS DECREASED, THE ENGINE HOLD BACK ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE DECELERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS LOW BUT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AGAIN AND WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FIRST PROBLEM WAS WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT AROUND 70MPH IT FELT LIKE I WAS REAR ENDED AND PRETTY HARD. I LOOKED AROUND AND THERE WERE NO CARS NEARBY. IN ABOUT 2 MINUTES IT DID IT AGAIN AND AGAIN THE STARTED TO BE INTERMITTENT. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP THE REPLACED COIL PACK AND PLUGS AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. I DID NOT MAKE IT 2 MILES DOWN THE ROAD WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED TO SHUDDER. TOOK TRUCK BACK THEY KEPT IT FOR WEEKS THEN SAID IT WAS FIXED. THEY HAD INSTALLED THE SHIELD PER THE TSB AND AGAIN SENT ME ON MY WAY. WITHIN 1 MILE IT DID IT AGAIN AND I WAITED TO TAKE IT BACK AS I NEEDED MY TRUCK FOR WORK AND THEY WERE GIVING ME TINY SUV LOANER CARS. THIS TIME THEY REPLACED INTERCOOLER AFTER WEEKS AND WEEKS OF IT SITTING THERE. THIS HAPPENED APPROX. 12 TIMES. DURING THIS TIME I SENT LETTERS ABOUT MY CONCERNS TO EVERY PERSON ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS AT FORD WITH NO RESPONSE. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER FOR FORD NOT ONLY AVOIDED MY CALLS AND WOULD NOT REPLY TO ME THEN I TRIED TO ESCALATE ABOVE HER AND REACHED A VERY ARROGANT JERK THAT BLEW ME OFF. ONCE FINALLY GETTING A REPLY FROM [XXX] I GOT THE REPLY I HAVE EXPECTED. THE CORPORATE BLOW OFF! FORD DOES NOT LET YOU GET PAST CSM. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER 7 MONTHS. I HAD ENOUGH SO DECIDED TO TRY TO SELL THIS DEATH TRAP AND DEALERSHIPS WERE LOW BALLING ME DO TO THE KNOWN ISSUES. WHEN LEAVING A DEALERSHIP AND TRYING TO CROSS A RURAL HWY THE TRUCK LOST POWER AND I WAS NERVOUSLY SLAMMING THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I HAD A DUMP TRUCK COMING AT ME BLOWING ITS AIR HORNS. THE TRUCK STARTED TO GO BUT BARELY LIMPING. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES AND FORD DENIED THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER TRUCKS AND THAT THEY KNEW OF THE PROBLEM. THEY NOW WILL NOT EVEN WORK ON THE PROBLEM PERIOD I WAS TOLD THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO TRY TO REPAIR THESE TRUCKS AT ALL. I HAVE A VERY DANGEROUS TRUCK.
