TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION POWER WHILE TOWING A BOAT. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SHIFT THE GEAR MANUALLY AND REGAIN ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED, WHICH WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE CODE. THE DEALER ALSO TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT MOISTURE PENETRATED THE ECO-BOOST AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO LOSE ACCELERATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,300.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE BUT THE VEHICLE DECELERATED AND SHOOK VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ECOBOOST CHAMBER WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 9,000. *TR
ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS, APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS APART WHILE IN HARD ACCELERATION ATTEMPTING TO MERGE ON AN INTERSTATE ON-RAMP, VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHUDDER VIOLENTLY AND LOSE POWER. IN FIRST INSTANCE, I WAS ABLE TO MERGE IN THE LEFT LANE AND LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR. AS VEHICLE COASTED, THE SHUDDER SUBSIDED AND WITHIN 1 MINUTE STOPPED ALL TOGETHER. IN THE SECOND INSTANCE, WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER, TRAFFIC CONDITIONS WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO MERGE AND I WAS FORCED TO COAST ALONG THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD UNTIL THE SHUDDER SUBSIDED AND POWER WAS RESUMED. IN NEITHER SITUATION, DID THE VEHICLE GO INTO SAFE MODE OR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEAR. VEHICLE SIMPLY RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. *TR
WHEN BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY AT APPROX. 5MPH, THE POWER BRAKES BECOME SPONGY AND CAN BE PUSHED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE FAILS TO STOP AND THE BRAKES MUST BE PUMPED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THEY WORK. THIS ONLY OCCURS AT INITIAL STARTUP (FIRST USE OF THE BRAKES) THAT DAY. THIS HAPPENS ALMOST DAILY DURING WARM/HOT WEATHER MONTHS. THE PROBLEM HAS EXISTED SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AND I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP 2-3 TIMES REGARDING THIS ISSUE. HOWEVER, THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM OR DETERMINE THE CAUSE. IT'S BEEN HAPPENING FOR THE PAST 3-4 YEARS AND IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE I DON'T STOP IN TIME AND BACKUP INTO MY NEIGHBORS CAR ACROSS THE STREET. I HAVE THE 2012 FORD F150 W/ ECO BOOST SIX-CYLINDER ENGINE AND FIND SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET REGARDING THIS TRUCK. A RECALL FOR SIMILAR BRAKE PROBLEMS WAS ISSUED ON 2013-2014 YEAR MODELS BUT NOT 2012. MY TRUCK IS NOT USED DAILY AND HAS ABOUT 30,000 MILES ON IT.
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP SIGN TURNING RIGHT MY 2012 FORD F150 PLATINUM 4X4 ECOBOOST STALLED AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE FOR A FEW SECONDS. I THOUGHT THE TRUCK SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL BUT THAT WAS NOT THE CASE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WITHIN THE LAST 3 MONTHS AND IS GETTING MORE FREQUENT. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO COME TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPLICATED. WELL I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK A BRAND NEW 2012 FORD F-150 XLT SUPER CREW W/ 3.5L ECOBOOST ENGINE. THE TRUCK HAD 104 MILES WHEN I BOUGHT IT. AFTER A WEEK I STARTED TO NOTICE THAT THE TRUCK SHUDDER'S WHEN I ACCELERATE FROM A DEAD STOP AND IT ALSO SHUDDERS WHEN I COME TO A FULL STOP. FOR ABOUT A WEEK EVERY SINGLE DAY AND TIME I WOULD START AND STOP THE TRUCK WOULD SHUDDER. I THOUGHT THIS WAS BECAUSE THE ENGINE JUST NEEDED TO BREAK IN. WELL I AM GOING ON THE 4TH WEEK OF OWNING THIS TRUCK AND IT STILL OCCURS. THE SHUDDER THAT IS. THE SHUDDER ALSO OCCURS NOW WHEN I HAVE A COLD ENGINE START AND I PUT THE TRUCK IN REVERSE IT STARTS TO SHUDDER. I DO FEEL AS THE DRIVER IT HAS EFFECTED THE PERFORMANCE OF MY TRUCK. 854
THE DRIVER SEAT OF MY 2012 FORD F150 PLATINUM, 4X4, SUPERCREW OCCASIONALLY MAKES A GRINDING NOISE WHEN I SLIDE THE SEAT BACKWARDS. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE FORD LAKEWOOD DEALERSHIP IN WASHINGTON STATE AND WAS INFORMED THAT FORD HAD SOME SORT OF TECHNICAL BULLETIN ABOUT THE DRIVER SEAT BRACKET. SO THE DEALERSHIP INSTALLED A BRACKET WHICH I THINK IS SUPPOSED TO PROVIDE STABILITY SUPPORT TO THE SEAT. THE BRACKET HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GRINDING NOISE I HEAR. THE SEAT DOESN'T APPEAR OR FEEL LOOSE. THE NOISE IS STILL THERE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE AIR COOLER AND SEVERAL OTHER UNKNOWN COMPONENTS WERE REPLACED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,577.
HAVING ISSUES WITH THE ECOBOOST ACCELERATING UPON TAKE OFF OR GETTING ON TO ROAD WAYS NUMEROUS TIMES I HAVE COME CLOSE TO GETTING HIT BECAUSE OF NO POWER UPON ACCELERATING NOW THIS HAS BEEN GOING SINCE PURCHASE NEW WITH ONLY 116 MILES AND PURCHASE DATE 3-17-2013. THE DEALER SAYS THIS IS NORMAL OPERATING CONDITION FOR THE VEHICLE TO HAVE LAG TIME BEFORE POWER.MY FEELING IS IF YOU ARE SITTING AT A LIGHT AND YOU GIVE THE VEHICLE GAS THE VEHICLE WILL MOVE SLOW AND THEN DO A SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND COULD CAUSE DEATH OR INJURY TO SOMEONE UNSAFE TRUCK. NOW I'M HAVING ISSUES WITH THE DRIVER WINDOW NOT GOING DOWN OR WHEN IT IS DOWN WILL NOT GO UP THEY SAY THIS IS NORMAL OPERATING PROCEDURE FORD HAS SOME ISSUE AND THEY NEED TO BE CORRECTED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED OR HURT BAD. *TR
I ONLY JUST LEARNED OF YOUR INVESTIGATION SO MY MEMORY ON EXACT DATES AND MILEAGE MAY BE OFF BY A FEW WEEKS. I DID TAKE MY TRUCK TO THE FORD DEALER TO REPORT MY INCIDENT SO THEY SHOULD SHOULD HAVE A RECORD OF THIS AND THE WORK THEY PERFORMED (BAIERL FORD, ZELIENOPLE, PA 16063). MY 2012 F150 WITH THE 3.5L ECOBOOST WAS ABOUT 6 MONTHS OLD AT THE TIME. I WAS PASSING A COAL TRUCK UPHILL ON A 10% GRADE. I WAS NOT TOWING, NOR DID I HAVE A LOAD IN THE BED. HE WAS GOING ABOUT 30 MPH. I EASED OUT AND GOT ALONG SIDE RUNNING NOW AT ABOUT 50-55, THEN 'PUNCHED' THE THROTTLE TO COMPLETE THE PASS. THAT DID NOT TURN OUT WELL. THE ENGINE CUT OUT EXACTLY LIKE A REVERSE LIMITER ON AN ATV AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I BARELY WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE THE PASS, AND WAS 'PUSHED' UP THE HILL BY THE COAL TRUCK, ENGINE RUNNING IN THAT CUT-OUT MODE ALL THE WAY. GOT OVER THE TOP AND IT CONTINUED TO RUN LIKE THIS DOWN THE OTHER SIDE. AFTER ABOUT 6 MILES, IT WENT BACK TO NORMAL AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OUT. TOOK IT TO MY DEALER NOT TOO LONG AFTER. THEY INSTALLED SOMETHING - SINCE IT WAS WARRANTY WORK I WASN'T GIVEN THE PAPERWORK AND SIMPLY DON'T RECALL WHAT THEY DID. APPARENTLY THERE WAS A TSB ON THE PROBLEM THOUGH. I HAVE NOT HAD A REPEAT IN THE 6 MONTHS SINCE, ALTHOUGH I DO DRIVE DIFFERENTLY NOW, HAVING EXPERIENCED THAT EPISODE. THAT EVENT SEVERELY COMPROMISED MY CONFIDENCE IN THIS ENGINE. SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN VERY ADVERSE TO PASSING ON TWO LANE ROADS AND HAVE DELAYED TOWING SEVERAL TIMES FOR FEAR THIS WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN POTENTIALLY CREATING A DEADLY SITUATION. *TR
AS I WENT TO PASS SLOW MOVING VEHICLES IN A BRAND NEW F-150 ECOBOOST WITH 4,000 MILES ON IT COMPLETELY LOST POWER TWICE WITHIN 30 MINUTES AND SHUT DOWN FOR ABOUT 20 SECONDS. ONCE I WAS SLOWED TO ABOUT 15 MPH ON A BUSY STREET IT WENT BACK TO NORMAL AND THE ACCELERATOR STARTING WORKING AGAIN. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, I HEARD A POP AND 'DING' SOUND BEFORE LOSING ALL ELECTRICAL ITEMS - DASH BOARD, HEAD LIGHTS, TAIL LIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, ETC., BUT THE ENGINE WAS STILL OPERATING. I THEN FELT A GRINDING NOISE AND IMMEDIATELY EXITED THE HIGHWAY SAFELY TO PARK AT A GAS STATION. I TURNED OFF AND REMOVED THE KEY BUT THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. I WAS ONLY A FEW MILES FROM A FORD DEALERSHIP. I INSERTED THE KEY, TURNED IT TO THE ON POSITION AND TRIED TO PUT THE TRUCK INTO GEAR WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE. THE TRANSMISSION BRAKE RELEASE WOULD NOT WORK. I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WHO SCHEDULED A TOW TO THE DEALERSHIP. I HAD TO CALL THE DEALERSHIP TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF. THEY ADVISED THAT I SHOULD PULL THE FUEL PUMP RELAY FUSE WHICH DID STOP THE ENGINE. TO DATE, FORD DOES NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG. *TR

THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY BEGAN TO RESPOND TO ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. DRIVING IN RAINING CONDITIONS, WHEN ACCELERATING I WOULD LOOSE POWER WHEN THE TURBO CHARGERS KICKED IN. IT WAS AS IF THE TURBO CHARGERS WERE PICKING UP THE MOISTURE CAUSING THE ENGINE TO MISFIRE AND WOULD LOOSE ALL POWER FOR ACCELERATION. EVEN AFTER THE RAIN STOPPED, THIS ACCELERATION PROBLEM STAYED WITH THE VEHICLE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP. THE NEXT MORNING, STILL HAD SAME PROBLEM BUT AS THE TEMPERATURE WENT UP AND HUMIDITY DECREASED THE PROBLEM GOT LESS SEVERE AND BY THE END OF THE SECOND DAY THE ACCELERATION HAD RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS WHEN I WAS PASSING A SEMI TRAILER, I TRIED TO PULL OUT AROUND IN PASSING ZONE ON A SINGLE LANE IN EACH DIRECTION, WHEN THE ENGINE DIDN'T RESPOND I HAD TO BREAK AND FALL BACK BEING THE SEMI. LUCKILY, THIS OCCURRED AS I PULLED OUT TO PASS THE SEMI, IF IT HAD HAPPENED AFTER I ALONG SIDE OF THE SEMI, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO WAY TO ACCELERATE TO PASS THE SEMI OR RETURN TO MY SIDE OF THE ROAD BEFORE THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC ARRIVED. I HAVE HEARD OF OTHER INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCING THE SAME DURING RAINING CONDITIONS AND DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
MERGING ONTO INTERSTATE AT 50 MPH I ACCELERATED HARD TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. COMPLETE LOSS OF ACCELERATION NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT WITH A TRACTOR TRAILER BEHIND US. VIOLENT SHUDDERING OF ENTIRE VEHICLE, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHED AND THEN REMAINED ON. AFTER NEARLY A MINUTE OF FEATHERING THE ACCELERATOR, THE PROBLEM SUBSIDED AND ABILITY TO ACCELERATE WAS REGAINED. THIS HAD ALREADY HAPPENED ONCE ON THE SAME DRIVE AND A COUPLE IF TIMES PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. I DROPPED THE TRUCK OFF AT THE DEALER THIS AM AFTER DRIVING IT FOR TWO DAYS WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. THEY SAID THEY WOULD CALL WITH AN UPDATE IN THE AFTERNOON, BUT WHEN 7PM ROLLED AROUND AND I HAD NOT YET HEARD FROM THEM I CALLED TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE WAITING FOR A REPLACEMENT INTERCOOLER AND TO CALL BACK IN THE MORNING AND SPEAK WITH THE SERVICE ADVISOR. SEEMS LIKE A VERY COMMON - NOT TO MENTION DANGEROUS - PROBLEM FOR FORD NOT TO BE PUBLICLY DEALING WITH IT, OR AT LEAST BEING MORE PROACTIVE ABOUT ISSUING A RECALL FOR. HOPEFULLY NO ONE GETS HURT BEFORE THE PROBLEM IS ACKNOWLEDGED & FIXED. *TR

TRUCK STUMBLES AND STUTTERS AT 62 MPH AND AROUND 1400 RPM WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. FORD DEALERSHIP REPLACED CAC AND UPGRADED SOFTWARE, THIS HELPED THE PROBLEM BUT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I REPORTED BACK TO THE DEALER ABOUT THE CONTINUED PROBLEM AND THERE RESPONSE WAS THAT I WAS FEELING TURBO LAG AND FORD CORP DOES NOT CURRENTLY HAVE A FIX, CHECK BACK IN A FEW MONTHS. *TR
I HAD BEEN DRIVING IN HARD RAIN FOR ABOUT 3 HOURS PULLING A 8000LB TRAVEL TRAILER. ON A 3 LANE INTERSTATE I PULLED OUT TO PASS A SLOW VEHICLE IN THE RH LANE. WE WERE GOING UP A SLIGHT HILL. IT STARTED TO SHAKE, LOST POWER, AND SLOWED TO ABOUT 30 MPH. I WAS THEN IN THE CENTER LANE GOING TOO SLOW FOR THE TRAFFIC WITH TRUCKS PASSING ME BLOWING THEIR HORNS ON BOTH SIDES AND THE ROAD SLOP FROM THEM MAKING IT HARD TO SEE. I STOPPED IN A REST AREA AND CALLED THE FORD HELP LINE WHO OFFERED NO ADVICE OTHER THAN TO CALL A LOCAL DEALER. I AM FROM MI. AND THIS HAPPENED IN TN. NORMALLY ON A HILL LIKE THIS IT WOULD HAVE GONE TO 65MPH WITH NO EFFORT. THE ALTITUDE WAS ABOUT 850', TEMP 45 DEG, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS OR CODES, WAS IN THE TOW HAUL MODE, AS I GOT TO THE RH SIDE AGAIN IT STARTED TO GET BETTER, TOOK ABOUT 2 MINUTES. I WAS AMAZED I DIDN'T GET REAR ENDED BY A TRUCK. IT WAS A REALLY SCARY SITUATION AND MY WIFE IS STILL HESITANT ABOUT PULLING A TRAILER WITH IT. WHEN I GOT HOME I TOOK IT TO MY DEALER AND THEY CHECKED A LOT OF THINGS AND DID SOME OF THE TSB'S FOR THIS PROBLEM AND COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. THEY THEN PUT A FLIGHT RECORDER ON IT FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS AND GOT NO CODES. NOW ALL I KNOW IS THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG AND I'M NOT SURE IF IT WILL EVER BE TAKEN CARE OF. THEY ARE VERY CLOSED MOUTH ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I'D REALLY LIKE TO GET SOME IDEA IF THEY ARE WORKING ON IT OR IF I'M STUCK WITH IT. IT'S A REALLY NICE TRUCK IF IT DOESN'T KILL US. *TR
WHILE MERGING FROM I-26 TO I-20 WHILE PULLING A LIGHTLY LOADED CARGO TRAILER I WAS ACCELERATING DOWN THE ENTRANCE RAMP, HAD JUST BEGUN TO MERGE AND SUDDENLY WITH NO WARNING MY F-150 TRUCK WITH AN ECOBOOST ENGINE BEGAN TO HESITATE.... ACTUALLY IS WAS MUCH WORSE THAN A HESITATION IT SEEMED TO LOSE ALL POWER AND BEGAN TO VIBRATE TERRIBLY (FELT AND SOUNDED LIKE DRIVING ON A CORRUGATED/WASHBOARD ROAD). I HAD A LARGE 18 WHEELER CLOSING IN VERY FAST, I ACTUALLY MOVED TO THE EMERGENCY LANE TO ALLOW HIM TO PASS. VERY SCARY! THE WEATHER WAS RAINY AND HUMID, THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE ENDED BADLY. I HAD ONE PASSENGER AT THE TIME THAT WITNESSED THIS EVENT. *TR
IT FIRST STARTED WHEN I MERGED ONTO THE INTERSTATE AND IT LOST ALL POWER AND MISFIRED. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED TO PARTS. KNOW MY TRUCK HAS A MISS IN THE ENGINE TOOK IT BACK TO FORD AND THE FIRST DEALERSHIP SAID THAT IT WAS BECAUSE I HAD AFTERMARKET TIRES ON IT AND THE ENGINE WAS TO SMALL FOR THE SIZE OF MY TRUCK. SO I ASKED TO TAKE IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALER AND THEY CHARGED ME $95 TO SAY IT WAS THE AFTERMARKET GRILLE GUARD THAT IS ON MY TRUCK. NOTHING SHOWS ON THE COMPUTER BUT THEY ALL FEEL THE MISS THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 13000 MILES ON IT AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT LONG DISTANCE. I AM STATIONED IN GERMANY AND MY PARENTS HAVE MY TRUCK SO I AM LISTING THERE INFORMATION BELOW. *TR
WHEN DRIVING UNDER 40 MPH ON A AN UNEVEN SURFACE ESPECIALLY GRAVEL OR DIRT ROADS THERE IS A CLUNKING SOUND FROM FRONT/ALSO FELT THROUGH STEERING WHEEL. NOTIFIED DEALER ABOUT ALL THE COMPLAINTS ON HERE AND FORUMS ABOUT BAD STEERING BOXES. TOOK TRUCK IN TO DEALERSHIP AND MECHANIC EXPERIENCED IT ON TEST DRIVE. TIGHTENED ALL FRONT SUSPENSION HARDWARE AND ALL WAS TIGHT. WAS TOLD THERE IS NO PROBLEM AND THEY CAN'T REPLACE ANYTHING IF NOTHING IS BROKE. THEY HAD NO EXPLANATION OF THE CONCERN EVEN THOUGH THE MECHANIC FELT IT ON TEST DRIVE. THE TRUCK HAS JUST OVER 10,000 MILES ON IT NOW AND HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE ABOUT 7,000 OR 8,000 MILES. VERY DISSATISFIED WITH THE QUALITY OF THIS TRUCK. I HAVE OWNED A LOT OF FORDS IN THE PAST BUT IF THIS IS NOT RESOLVED I WILL NEVER BUY A FORD AGAIN. V6 ECOBOOST MY FAMILY AND I WERE TRAVELING IN HEAVY RAIN ON I65 IN BIRMINGHAM, AL. I PULLED INTO THE FAR LEFT LANE TO PASS SLOWER VEHICLES. WHEN I ACCELERATED THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND RAPIDLY LOSE SPEED AND POWER. SEVERAL VEHICLES INCLUDING A SEMI HAD TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION TO AVOID A COLLISION. THE SECOND TIME WAS ON MY RETURN TRIP HOME. WE WERE TRAVELING ON A TWO LANE ROAD IN FOGGY CONDITIONS. WE CAME TO AN AREA WHEN THE ROAD SPLIT SO YOU COULD PASS SLOWER VEHICLES. I, ALONG WITH A CAR FOLLOWING, WENT TO PASS A SLOWER VEHICLE WHICH HAD MOVED TO THE RIGHT. WHEN I WAS ALONGSIDE THE SLOWER VEHICLE MY TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE AND LOSE SPEED. I HAD TO TAKE EVASIVE BRAKING ACTION TO FALL IN BEHIND THE VEHICLE TO MY RIGHT BECAUSE THEY WERE RUNNING OUT OF ROOM. THE VEHICLE FOLLOWING ME ALSO HAD TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION TO AVOID HITTING ME. AND THE CAR TO MY RIGHT. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER WHEN I RETURNED HOME. THEY REPLACED THE CAC, INSTALLED A PLASTIC SHIELD, REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER, AND REPLACED A DEFECTIVE CAT AS WAS THE RECOMMENDED REPAIR ACCORDING TO THE ISSUED TSB. ON APRIL 18TH I WAS TRAVELING ON HWY41 IN THE RAIN.TWICE ON MY TRIP THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND LOSE SPEED WHEN PASSING SLOWER VEHICLES. THE APPLIED TSB DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AT THE REQUEST OF FORD CUSTOMER CARE. THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND AN ISSUE. THE DAY THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED THE SECOND CAT WENT OUT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. FORD HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE BUT HAS INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO AT THIS TIME. THEY OFFERED TO SEND ME A BUY BACK OFFER WITHIN TEN DAYS AND AFTER TWENTY DAYS AND SEVERAL PHONE CALLS TODAY THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY ARE UNABLE TO BUY BACK MY TRUCK. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED ON 3/16/13 AS A DEMO MODEL WITH 6300 MILES ON IT. MADE A LEFT TURN AND ACCELERATED TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC ON 3/19/13 WHEN THE WHOLE VEHICLE SHUDDERED VIOLENTLY AND THE ENGINE LOST POWER RESULTING IN PEOPLE HAVING TO HIT THEIR BRAKES AND HONK AT US TO AVOID HITTING US. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO BOG DOWN AS THE ACCELERATOR WAS PUSHED. I LET THE VEHICLE COAST TO ALMOST A STOP BEFORE THE SYMPTOMS WENT AWAY AND COULD DRIVE AS NORMAL. I LOOKED UP SYMPTOMS ON INTERNET AND FOUND MANY PEOPLE EXPERIENCING SAME SYMPTOMS WITH THIS NEW ECO-BOOST ENGINE BY FORD IN THEIR TRUCKS. IT SEEMS THAT THE INTERCOOLER CAN COLLECT CONDENSATION IN HUMID OR RAINY ENVIRONMENTS AND HAVE THAT WATER FORCED TO THE ENGINE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PUSHED HARD CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SHUDDER AND LOSE POWER. FORD HAS APPARENTLY IDENTIFIED THIS PROBLEM AND ISSUED A TBS SERVICE BULLETIN INSTRUCTING THE CHARGED AIR COOLER BE REPLACED WITH A NEWLY DESIGNED ONE FOR MODEL YEAR 2011-2012 F-150'S WITH THE 3.5L V6 ECO-BOOST ENGINE IF A CUSTOMER COMPLAINS OF THE ABOVE SYMPTOMS AND SOME PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED THIS SOLUTION HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM. TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE, LITTLE TO NO UPHILL OR DOWNHILL GRADE, SPEED APPROXIMATELY 55, ATTEMPTED TO PASS A TRACTOR-TRAILER. PRESSED HARD ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, AND STARTED THE PASS. HALFWAY THRU THE PASS, PASSING SPEED 65-70 MPH, MY TRUCK LOST ALL POWER AND STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I BACKED OFF THE ACCELERATOR, AND PULLED BACK IN BEHIND THE TRACTOR-TRAILER, THEN OFF TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER. I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF, OPENED THE HOOD, EXPECTING TO SEE SOMETHING BAD. NO VISIBLE SIGNS OF ANYTHING WRONG. STARTED THE ENGINE, DROVE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME, WITH NO OTHER MIS-HAPS. HOWEVER, THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TWICE MORE, THE MOST RECENT BEING JUST A FEW DAYS AGO, 6-10-13. EACH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, IT HAS BEEN DURING AN ATTEMPT TO PASS A SLOWER VEHICLE, DURING A HARD ACCELERATION. I'M TYPICALLY A VERY CONSERVATIVE DRIVER, AND BOUGHT THIS TRUCK WITH THIS ENGINE FOR BOTH FUEL ECONOMY AND POWER TO PULL A TRAILER. ON THE FIRST AND THIRD OCCURRENCE, I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE, WITH TRAFFIC GOING THE SAME DIRECTION. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED, I WAS ON A SLIGHT UPGRADE ON A 2-LANE ROAD, AND ATTEMPTED TO PASS A MUCH SLOWER VEHICLE. THERE WAS TRAFFIC COMING FROM THE OTHER DIRECTION, BUT THERE WAS AMPLE TIME AND DISTANCE TO MAKE A SAFE PASS, AS THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME WAS VERY SLOW. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS SUFFICIENT ROOM FOR THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC TO MOVE OVER TO AVOID THE COLLISION. THE TRUCK IS BADLY DAMAGED BUT SHE AND THE TWO GRANDCHILDREN ARE OKAY. I AM PUTTTING THIS ON THIS SITE BECAUSE I KNOW FORD IS GOING TO DENY ANY PROBLEMS LIKE THIS. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, VEHICLE WILL GO INTO "LIMP" MODE. POWER REDUCES ON VEHICLE AND WILL NOT ALLOW TO MAINTAIN HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I HEAR A THUNKING NOISE UNDER THE FRONT SUSPENSION OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD. MY FIRST REACTION IS IT'S A BRAND NEW TRUCK. IT SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE A BAD SWAY BAR LINK. SO I TOOK THE TRUCK TO MY FRIENDS MECHANICS GARAGE AND NOTICED FRONT TIRES ARE CUPPED BADLY, AN UNUSUALLY WEAR FOR A NEW TRUCK. WE ROTATED THE TIRES AND CHECKED SUSPENSION. WE NOTICED WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS A BAD INNER TIE ROD CAUSE THERE WAS LOOSE UNUSUAL MOVEMENT SIDE TO SIDE WITH THE TIRE ON DRIVER'S SIDE. SO I WENT HOME AND STARTED TO READ ON F150 FORUM.COM AND FOUND MANY PEOPLE WITH 2011-2013 F150 YEAR TRUCK IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE OF THUNKIN NOISE. IT TURNS OUT IT IS NOT TIE RODS, IT IS A BAD STEERING RACK AND PINION. I READ ALOT OF INFORMATION AND A VIDEO OF A TRUCK THAT SOUND LIKE MINE. I HAVE READ WHERE A SERVICE WRITER MENTIONED THAT 2 TRUCKS LOST STEERING BUT THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT AND THE STEERING RACKS WERE REPLACED. I HAVE CALLED FORD SERVICE RECENTLY AND THEY SAID THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT BAD STEERING RACKS. MANY OWNERS OF THESE TRUCKS HAVE POSTED IN THE FORUM THAT FORD KNOWS OF THESE SO CALLED CONTAMINATED STEERING RACKS THAT WERE MADE. ACCELERATING FROM FREEWAY ON RAMP AT ABOUT 25 MPH, SLOWLY PUSHING PEDAL DOWN TRUCK TACHOMETER GAUGE SPEED UP TO BETWEEN 5500 RPM AND 7000 RPM. HOWEVER TRUCK DID NOT MOVE. TRANSMISSION ACTED LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. THIS LASTED 4 OR 5 SECONDS; THEN ENGINE STARTED MISSING AND RUNNING ROUGH. ALL THE TIME VEHICLE HAD SLOWED TO APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH. I NARROWLY AVOIDED BEING REARENDED BY PULLING OFF THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY. THIS HAPPEN ON I-20 NEAR THE REST AREA WEST BOUND IN MONAHANS TEXAS. WEATHER WAS CLEAR, AND TEMP ABOUT 42 DEGREES. HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST THREE TIMES SINCE THEN. FUEL WAS FROM NATIONAL VENDOR AND SAME BRAND I NORMALLY USE. DEALER IS OBLIVIOUS TO THIS AND WHAT TO DO. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED (COLD WINTER MORNING), WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON, STARTED TO CLIMB HILL, ENGINE BEGAN TO THROTTLE UP, THEN THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY, ENGINE LOST POWER. SHUT OFF CRUISE CONTROL AND COASTED ONTO SHOULDER. WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY ENGAGE THROTTLE AND CONTINUE, BUT ANY INCREASE IN THROTTLE ABOVE "GENTLE" WOULD BRING ON THE SHUDDER AND POWER LOSS. ENGINE LIGHT FLASHED AND STAYED LIT FOR NEXT 20 MINUTES. EXPERIENCED SIMILAR SCENARIO LATER THE SAME DAY. TOOK TO DEALER. DEALER INDICATED CHARGED AIR COOLER WORKS "TOO WELL". COOLS AIR SO MUCH THAT CONDENSATION FORMS AND CAUSES THE ISSUE. DEALER INDICATED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN HAD BEEN ISSUED ON THE PROBLEM. NEED NEW CAC AND SHIELD. TWO WEEKS (+/-) BEFORE PARTS ARRIVED. DEALER COMPLETED TSB 12-10-19 , ACCORDING TO THE WORK ORDER: REPLACED CAC COOLER ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLED NEW AIR DEFLECTOR SHIELD, REPROGRAMMED PCM. DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. SAME PROBLEM ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE DEALER. DROVE IT FOR ONE WEEK ASSUMING MOISTURE MAY NEED TIME TO "CLEAR UP". PROBLEM STILL EXISTED FOR 7 DAYS. ANY MILD TO STRONG THROTTLE INPUT WOULD BRING ON SHUDDER. ONE WEEK AFTER "FIXED" WITH NEW CAC, I TRIED TO MERGE ONTO HIGHWAY, AT 60-70 % THROTTLE, VIOLENT SHUDDER OCCURRED AND ENGINE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER. AGAIN, COASTED ON SHOULDER UNTIL TRUCK WOULD RESPOND TO THROTTLE INPUT WITHOUT SHUDDERING AND POWER LOSS. LUCKILY, TRAFFIC WAS "LIGHT" AT THE TIME. COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS INCIDENT. FORD'S ECOBOOST ENGINE V6 3.5L CUT POWER WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MERGE ON TO HIGHWAY AT 55MPH. SEVERE ENGINE VIBRATIONS ENSUED. VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE IF THERE IS A LOT OF TRAFFIC BEHIND PERSON DRIVING. DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, BEGAN TO PASS A SEMI TRUCK. ENGINE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND SHUDDER AND THEN POWER LOSS. HAD TO MAKE SUDDEN BRAKE TO AVOID HEAD ON COLLISION WITH ONCOMING CAR. ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND FORD HAS TOLD ME THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE AN IMMEDIATE FIX TO THE PROBLEM. HAVE SINCE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE IS A MOISTURE PROBLEM IN THE TURBO COOLERS. THEY DO NOT HAVE PARTS TO FIX AND DO NOT HAVE A FIX DATE. THEY TOLD ME TO KEEP DRIVING THE TRUCK BUT I AM AFRAID THAT THE MOTOR WILL CUT OUT AND CAUSE A CRASH THAT COULD BE FATAL. THE DEALERSHIP WONT GIVE ME ANOTHER TRUCK TO DRIVE IN THE MEAN TIME. I DO NOT HAVE EXTRA VEHICLES TO LEAVE IT PARKED UNTIL THEY FIND A FIX. THIS WRITE UP IS FOR A 2012 FORD F-150 TRUCK WITH THE 3.5L ECOBOOST V-6 INSTALLED. JAN, 2013-WHILE DRIVING ON I-24E, I WAS PULLING OUT FROM THE REST STOP, JUST NORTH WEST OF EXIT 1. I WENT TO PASS A 18 WHEELER AND MY TRUCK CAME "UNGLUED". IT PRACTICALLY DIED IN THE PASSING LANE WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDDLE. IT SHUDDERED SO HARD; I DIDN'T THINK I WOULD BE ABLE TO GET OFF OF THE ROAD BEFORE IT DIED. IT WAS MISSING AND SHUDDERING LIKE CRAZY. I PULLED OFF EXIT 1, SHUT THE TRUCK DOWN AND RESTARTED. IT RAN OK WITHOUT THAT SAME THING HAPPENING ON THE WAY HOME. I HAD A PRETTY DESCENT "MISS" IN 6TH GEAR, RUNNING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 75MPH. SOMETHING VERY STRANGE HAPPENED HERE. IT WAS THE FIRST ISSUE I'VE HAD WITH MY TRUCK. ALTHOUGH I'VE NOTICED RECENTLY THE MPG IS DOWN BY 2.0 MPG OR MORE FOR THE LAST THREE WEEKS, AND THIS FROM REFUELING AT DIFFERENT LOCATIONS, AND THE SAME DRIVING STYLE. FORD APPLIED THE TSB TO REPROGRAM THE PCM/TCM TO LATEST LEVEL, INSTALLED A DEFLECTOR SHIELD ON THE INTERCOOLER AND POSSIBLY REPLACE THE DRIVERS SIDE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IF NEEDED. JULY, 2013- THIS WEEKEND WHILE DRIVING ON I-65N, I HAD THE SAME ISSUE HAPPEN. THE TRUCK NOW HAS 17,000 MILES ON IT. I'VE HAD THE VEHICLE BACK INTO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER FOUR TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE. THE VEHICLE EXHIBITS THIS ISSUE WHEN IT'S RAINY AND HAS BEEN DRIVEN IN THE RAIN FOR SEVERAL (50 OR MORE) MILES. IN HEAVY TRAFFIC THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE. THE VEHICLE GOES INTO SOME TYPE OF SAFE MODE AND WILL BARELY LIMP OFF THE ROAD. IF THIS ISSUE WERE TO OCCUR WHILE CROSSING A FOUR LANE HWY, AND SPUTTERED ONE COULD BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR INJURE SOMEONE ELSE. *TR
