TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SHOOK AND VIBRATED AND THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE BECAME UNSTABLE AND SWAYED FROM SIDE TO SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WERNER HYUNDAI IN TALLAHASSEE, FL WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LEAF SPRINGS WERE FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. LATER, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, A LOUD AIR PRESSURE TYPE NOISE WAS HEARD UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED OIL HAD LEAKED FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT NO FAILURES RELATED TO AN OIL LEAK WERE FOUND. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
STEERING STARTED FEELING LIKE IT WAS HANGING UP WHILE TURNING. PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE OVER DAYS BY HAPPENING MORE OFTEN. EVENTUALLY TO THE POINT NOW WHERE THERE IS NO POWER ASSIST. THE WEIRDEST THING WAS AT ONE POINT IT STARTED TO WORK TOTALLY FINE FOR ABOUT TEN MINUTES THEN WENT BACK TO TOTAL FAILURE. THIS IS EQUIPPED WITH THE EPAS SYSTEM. CALLED DEALER AND WAS QUOTED A NEW COMPLETE RACK O FIX IT AT APPROX $2000. THIS SYSTEM DOES HAVE A RECALL ON 2014S BUT NOT 2013S FOR WHAT SEEMS TO BE THE SAME PROBLEM.
USING THE FACTOR INSTALLED AUTO-STARTER I REMOTELY STARTED MY F-150 TO WARM UP, OUTSIDE TEMP WAS 29F. AFTER APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES OF RUNNING MY WIFE AND I GOT INTO THE TRUCK TO DRIVE TO WORK. WITHIN A MINUTE WE HEARD A LOUD BANG AND WE THOUGHT SOMEONE THREW A SNOWBALL AND HIT THE TRUCK. WHEN WE LOOKED IN THE REAR WINDOW TOWARDS THE NOISE WE SAW THAT THE LEFT REAR WINDOW SECTION EXPLODED; LUCKILY THE THE COATINGS KEPT THE PIECES CONTAINED. THE REAR DEFROSTER WAS NOT TURNED ON BY NEITHER OF US.
IN FEBRUARY 2018 MY 2013 FORD F-150 WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 50 TO 60 MPH THE TRUCK WOULD WITHOUT WARNING SLAM INTO FIRST GEAR AND CAUSING THE REAR TIRES TO SKID FOR A SPLIT SECOND. THIS TRUCK IS THE VEHICLE THAT MY WIFE USES ON A DAILY BASIS TO COMMUTE AND TO RUN OUR KIDS BACK AND FORTH FROM SCHOOL AND SPORTING EVENTS SO TO ME IT WAS VERY UNPREDICTABLE AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION TO BE PUT IN WITHOUT WARNING THIS IS YOU HAPPENED.THIS ISSUE HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES OVER A PERIOD OF ABOUT 2 TO 3 WEEKS AND STARTED TO OCCUR MORE FREQUENTLY. WE TOOK IT TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT KEN GARFF FORD IN AMERICAN FORK UTAH WHERE WE ORIGINALLY PURCHASE THE VEHICLE THEY LOOKED IT OVER AND RECOMMENDED CHANGING OUT THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION I GOT ONLINE DID SOME RESEARCH READ THROUGH SEVERAL DIFFERENT FORMS AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WAS HAPPENING TO THE 2011/2012 F-150S SO I KNEW THAT IT WASN'T A FULL TRANSMISSION ISSUE THAT SOMETHING ELSE WAS GOING ON SO I TOOK IT TO LARRY MILLER FORD IN PROVO UTAH DESCRIBED WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS THEY SOUNDED TO BE MORE CONFIDENT AND SOUNDED LIKE THEY HAD DEALT WITH THE SAME ISSUE ON OTHER F150S. THEY DID THEIR TESTS AND DID SAY THAT IT WAS THE MOLDED LEAD FRAME WAS ISSUE AND THAT THAT IT NEEDED TO BE CHANGED OUT AND GAVE ME A QUOTE TO GET IT FIXED. I AGREED TO GET THE WORK DONE. THE REPAIRS WERE DONE TO THE TRANSMISSION AND IT HAS BEEN WORKING FLAWLESSLY EVER SINCE. IN MARCH 2019 WE RECEIVED THE LETTER STATING THE SAFETY RECALL FOR OUR EXACT SITUATION. NHTSA 19V- 075. CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY TRYING TO GET A REFUND AND THEY REFUSED SAYING IT'S ONLY A SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT DOESN'T EVEN EXIST YET. SO THAT MAKES NO SINCE WHY THEY WON'T REIMBURSE US FOR THE ISSUE THAT WAS FIXED BY THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH DUE TO THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKING. THE DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE. THE TRACTION CONTROL INDICATOR ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER WAS INJURED AND RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND A CLAIM WAS OPENED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD F-150. AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE AT A FUEL STATION, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL POPPING SOUND. UPON INSPECTION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED. THE HUB CITY FORD DEALER (4060 S FERDON BLVD, CRESTVIEW, FL) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE WINDOW SHATTERED DUE TO THE REAR DEFROSTER INDEPENDENTLY ACTIVATING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE BY THE DEALER DUE TO TSB # 10053423. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000.
MY FORD F150 EXPERIENCED A COOLANT SYSTEM LEAK SIMILAR TO RECALLS FOR OTHER FORD MODELS (HTTPS://MEDIA.FORD.COM/CONTENT/FORDMEDIA/FNA/US/EN/NEWS/2017/03/29/FORD-ISSUES-THREE-SAFETY-RECALLS-AND-ONE-SAFETY-COMPLIANCE-RECAL.HTML). THE PROBLEM IS SO BAD WITH FORD TRUCKS AROUND MY MODEL YEAR THAT THERE IS A NATIONWIDE BACKORDER OF THE PART TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE COOLANT SYSTEM'S "T CONNECTOR" WAS LEAKING ONTO MY WIRING HARNESS AND PRESENTED A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD MUCH LIKE THE RECALL NOTICE FOR SIMILAR FORD VEHICLES. SIMPLY SEARCH "2013 FORD F150 COOLANT LEAK" AND THE T CONNECTOR PROBLEM IS AT THE TOP OF THE SEARCH RESULTS. FORD DEALERS AND MECHANIC SHOPS ARE AWARE OF THE DESIGN FLAW, BUT FORD MOTOR CO WILL NOT ADDRESS IT AS A RECALL AT THIS TIME. THIS NEEDS TO BE REMEDIED. THE LEAK WAS OCCURRING WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING AND IN MOTION.
TRUCK WAS PARKED, NOT RUNNING GOT IN HEARD A LOUD POP NOISE, LOOKED AROUND SAW REAR PASSENGER SIDE REAR SLIDER WINDOW SHATTERED. THE OUTSIDE TEMP. WAS ABOUT 38 DEGREES. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. TO THE TUNE OF. $1000.00 EACH TIME. WHEN IS ENOUGH...ENOUGH? THERE IS AN ISSUE HERE. PLEASE HELP.
THE VEHICLE WILL UNEXPECTEDLY SHIFT INTO 1ST GEAR NO MATTER WHAT SPEED YOU ARE AT. I HAD IT SHIFT FROM 5TH TO 1ST AT 55 MPH AND LOCK UP THE REAR WHEELS. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND HAD IT TOWED.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND CONTINUED TO DOWNSHIFT AND STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO NIELSON FORD WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LEAD FRAME ASSEMBLY AND SLEEVES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES AND CONFIRMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VIN. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO CONTACT NHTSA. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 30-40 MPH, THE VEHICLE DOWNSHIFTED INTO FIRST GEAR WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD, TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO OPERATE AS INTENDED. THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MOORESVILLE FORD (LOCATED AT 151 E PLAZA DR, MOORESVILLE, NC 28115, (704) 664-1300) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE LEAD FRAME HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,930.
TIMING CHAIN / TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER DEFECT IN 2012-2014 ECOBOOST ENGINE. VEHICLE'S TIMING CHAIN LOSES TENSION AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT LOW MILEAGE. VERY COSTLY REPAIR, WITH ESTIMATED 13 HOURS LABOR. DESIGN DEFECT IS BEING REPORTED BY MORE AND MORE OWNERS OF VEHICLES WITH ECOBOOST ENGINES RELEASED BETWEEN 2012-2014. FORD MOTOR CORRECTED DESIGN DEFECT IN LATER MODELS, BUT DID NOT NOTIFY CURRENT OWNERS OR PROVIDE PATH TO RESOLUTION IF AFTER 5 YEAR/60K WARRANTY.
TRANSMISSION SHIFTS TO 1ST GEAR, LOCKS BREAK FOR A SPLIT SECOND, SPEEDOMETER GOES TO ZERO WHILE IN MOTION. HAPPENS ON BOTH HIGHWAY AND CITY STREET. READ UP ON IT AND SEEMS LIKE IT COULD BE THE MOLDED LEADFRAME BUT NOT POSITIVE. HAPPENS OFTEN, ABOUT EVERY OTHER WEEK
FAULTY LEAD FRAME IN TRANSMISSION CAUSING ABRUPT DOWN SHIFTS FROM 6TH TO 1ST AT HIGH SPEEDS AS WELL AS GETTING STUCK IN ANY ONE PARTICULAR GEAR FOR PROLONGED PERIODS OF TIME AT ALL TRAVEL SPEEDS. I HAVE VIDEO FOOTAGE OF THE TRANSMISSION STUCK IN 5TH GEAR AT 0 MPH. REPAIR BILLS TOTALING $552.95 ATTACHED. NOTE MILEAGE IS 65289.
TRUCK WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. WHEN I STARTED IT IN THE MORNING, THE REAR DEFROST LIGHT DID NOT TUN ON AFTER PRESSING THE BUTTON, THEN THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED.
LOW BRAKE FLUID ALERT CAME ON, BUT NO VISIBLE LEAKS. FLUID CONTINUES TO SLOWLY LEAK.
THE REAR WINDOW BEHIND DRIVER SIDE SHATTERED/FISSURED INTO TINY CRACKS. WE HAD AN ISSUE OF THE REAR DEFROSTER NOT FUNCTIONING THE WEEK BEFORE THIS OCCURRED. HAVING HAD A BOUT OF EXTREMELY COLD WEATHER, I WENT OUT TO WARM UP THE TRUCK AND DECIDED TO TRY TO SEE IF THE REAR DEFROSTER WOULD WORK TO DEFROST THE REAR WINDOW AND TO MY SURPRISE THE LIGHT POPPED ON SO I CAME BACK INTO THE HOUSE WHILE THE TRUCK WAS WARMING UP. UPON WALKING BACK TO THE TRUCK WHICH WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY, I NOTICED THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED/FISSURED IN TINY CRACKS EVERYWHERE.
I USED THE REMOTE START TO WARM UP MY CAR (IT WAS 3 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT THAT NIGHT), I GOT IN, STARTED THE TRUCK, THEN STARTED MESSING WITH MY PHONE (STILL PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY). I HEAR A LOUD POP AND LOOKED AROUND AND FOUND MY DRIVERS SIDE REAR WINDOW HAD SHATTERED (SPIDERWEB CRACKS THROUGH THE WHOLE THING, WINDOW STILL INTACT THOUGH). COULDN'T HAVE BEEN A ROCK OR SOMEONE THROWING SOMETHING AT MY TRUCK SINCE I WAS BACKED INTO MY DRIVEWAY.
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, THE VEHICLE DOWNSHIFTED TO 1ST GEAR CAUSING A JERK AND THE BACK TIRES TO SKID FOR AN INSTANT. IF SOMEONE WOULD HAVE BEEN CLOSE ENOUGH, THEY WOULD HAVE REAR ENDED ME. NORTH COUNTY FORD (450 W VISTA WAY, VISTA, CA 92083, (760) 945-9900) WAS CONTACTED AND AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY THE PARKING BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN AND STOP THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. FREDERICK MOTOR COMPANY (1 WAVERLEY DR, FREDERICK, MD 21702, (301) 663-6111) WAS CONTACTED AND AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
MY TRUCK HAS 58,000 MILES ON IT. ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO IT PERIODICALLY BEGAN HAVING ISSUES LOSING POWER AND SHIFTING ERRATICALLY. INITIALLY, I PULLED OVER AND CUT THE TRUCK OFF AND RESTARTED IT. THIS SOLVED THE PROBLEM TEMPORARILY. RECENTLY IT BEGAN TO DO IT MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE RAN A DIAGNOSTIC ON IT. IT CAME BACK AS A PROBLEM WITH THE "LEAD FRAME MODULE" IN THE TRANSMISSION. HE ALSO SAID I MISSED OUT ON A RECALL OF THIS PROBLEM BY 2 MONTHS. (THE RECALL ON THIS ISSUE WAS THROUGH APRIL OF 2013 AND MY TRUCK WAS MANUFACTURED IN JUNE OF 2013.) HE SUGGESTED I TAKE IT TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER IN PARSONS TN. I DID THIS AND ONCE AGAIN HAD THE SAME PROBLEM DIAGNOSED FOR ANOTHER $90 FEE. I WAS QUOTED APPROXIMATELY $600 TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM CORRECTED. I MADE THE EARLIEST APPOINTMENT THEY HAD TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED, WHICH WAS A WEEK LATER. MY APPOINTMENT WOULD HAVE BEEN TODAY, 8/23/2018, BUT THEY CALLED ME YESTERDAY SAYING THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GET ME IN UNTIL NEXT WEEK. I WENT AHEAD AND RESCHEDULED AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE MY TRUCK. TODAY I WAS DRIVING IT AND WITHOUT WARNING, IT SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTED AND MY REAR WHEELS LOCKED UP. I LUCKILY DIDN'T WRECK BUT CAME VERY CLOSE. I CAME HOME AND BEGAN RESEARCHING THE LEAD FRAME ISSUE AND SAW MANY PEOPLE HAD THIS SAME THING HAPPEN. I WAS NEVER TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP MY TRUCK WASN'T SAFE TO DRIVE AND THIS MIGHT HAPPEN. I REALLY LIKE MY TRUCK BUT NOW I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH FORD IN GENERAL. I SEARCHED EXTENSIVELY TO FIND A TRUCK WITH NO MECHANICAL ISSUES AND NOW FIND OUT THAT NOT ONLY DO I HAVE A " MAJOR" ISSUE, BUT IT MISSED OUT ON A BEING CORRECTED FOR FREE BY 2 MONTHS. IF I AM GOING TO HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE A PROBLEM FIXED THAT IS AN ADMITTED DEFECT, I WILL NEVER AGAIN OWN ANOTHER FORD!
DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 422 I WENT TO PASS A TRACTOR TRAILER MY FORD F150 WITH 3.5 ECOBOOST LOST ALL ENGINE POWER AND WOULD ONLY IDLE I HAD TO AVOID TRAFFIC TO GET BACK IN SLOW LANE AND TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. MY DASH DISPLAY HAD A BIG YELLOW WRENCH I TURNED OFF THE TRUCK AND RESTATED ENGINE WITH NO PROBLEMS AFTER RESTART

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DONLEY FORD LINCOLN OF MOUNT VERNON (1455 COSHOCTON AVE, MT VERNON, OH 43050, (740) 392-2222) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A SHORTAGE IN THE REAR DEFOGGER. THE REAR WINDOW NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE DEFOGGER WAS BUILT INTO THE WINDOW. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,800.

AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE SKIDDED OFF THE ROAD. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WRENCH WARNING ICON ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THOMASVILLE FORD LINCOLN (1515 E JACKSON ST, THOMASVILLE, GA 31792) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE WITH THE LEAD FRAME CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO DOWNSHIFT AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE COST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: CAS14180308. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
AFTER PULLING INTO PARKING LOT, AND AT LOW SPEED, I BEGAN TO PRESS MY BRAKE PEDAL DOWN TO COME TO A STOP. I WASN'T STOPPING AND HAD TO USE ALL OF MY WEIGHT ON THE PEDAL TO STOP. ONCE STOPPED, I HAD A NOTIFICATION POPUP THAT READ "CHECK BRAKE SYSTEMS", FOLLOWED BY MY PARKING LIGHT BEING ILLUMINATED. I TURNED MY TRUCK OFF AND BACK ON, AND THIS TIME, PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT LIKE I WAS TRYING TO PUSH A BRICK DOWN. 10 SECONDS LATER I GOT THE "CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM" NOTIFICATION, IN ADDITION TO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEING ILLUMINATED. HAD I BEEN ON AN ACTUAL STREET WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THIS COULD HAVE ENDED VERY BADLY.
MY WIFE STARTED THE TRUCK WITH THE REMOTE START ON THE MORNING OF 02/05/2018. SHE DID NOT NOTICE ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY UNTIL SHE GOT IN THE TRUCK TO HEAD TO WORK. SHE CALLED ME AND SAID THAT WHILE LOOKING IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR IT LOOKED LIKE THE REAR WINDOW WAS SHATTERED. SHE STOPPED AND TOOK A CLOSER LOOK AND REALIZED THAT IT WAS SHATTERED. WE DRIVE THE TRUCK EVERY DAY AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY ISSUES WITH ANYTHING FLYING UP AND HITTING THE WINDOW.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WILL DOWN SHIFT RANDOMLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE CAUSING THE BACK WHEELS TO LOCK UP FOR A FEW SECONDS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP A FEW MONTHS AGO AND THEY SAID THEY DID NOT NOTICE ANYTHING WRONG. IT RECENTLY STARTED DOING IT AGAIN BUT AT A MUCH MORE FREQUENT RATE. UNFORTUNATELY, I AM NOT A MECHANIC AND HAVE NO CLUE WHY IT WOULD DOWNSHIFT FOR NO REASON. I STARTED READING ABOUT OTHERS HAVING THIS ISSUE AND EVEN RECALLS FOR THE YEAR PRIOR. Slowing down to make a left turn. Brakes failed very difficult to press brake pad and Power transmission system was not responding properly causing my truck brakes to fail, transmission was slipping and the rear tires to slide. End result was a Crash into a pole at a corner. My truck was totaled by the insurance company costing me over $9,000 to replace the truck after the insurance payment. 'ERRACTIC SHIFTING' THREE TIMES I WAS DRIVING AT 50 TO 60 MILES PER HOUR AND SUDDENLY THE ERRATIC SHIFTING (TRUCK DOWN SHIFT WITH ANY WARNING) AND THE REAR TIRES LOCKED UP IMMEDIATELY. (WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE SPEEDOMETER AND THE RPM IS ERRACTIC TOO) IT IS TOO DANGEROUS IF ANOTHER CAR WOULD HAVE COME NEAR ME WOULD HAVE CRASHED. THESE TIMES I HAD TIME TO PUT THE EMERGENCY LIGHTS. TURN OFF THE TRUCK AND TURN IT ON AGAIN, (SOMETHIMES YOU HAVE TO DO IT SEVERAL TIMES TO MAKE THE TRUCK WORK AGAIN) AND ANOTHER PROBLEM IS SOMETHIMES THE GEAR NOT ENGAGE, THE ENGINE REVS BUT IT RUNS ALMOST NOTHING) DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS TRUCK.

THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND REPAIR. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,216.
DOOR LOCKS AND WILL NOT UNLOCK, UNLOCKS ON ITS ON AT VARIOUS TIMES STAYS LOCKED ON ITS OWN AT VARIOUS TIMES, CAN NOT MANUALLY UNLOCK.
TRANSMISSION IS SHIFTING ERRATICALLY. DROPPING SEVERAL GEARS FOR NO REASON. GAS MILEAGE HAS BEEN SLOWLY DEGRADING OVER THE LAST YEAR. I BELIEVE THIS IS BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION IS OVER REVVING BEFORE SHIFTING GEARS. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID OFTEN SMELLS BURNT.

REMOTE STARTED THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT, AROUND 7:30 PM ON A 23 DEGREE TEMPERATURE NIGHT IN CENTRAL INDIANA. WE THEN GOT INTO THE VEHICLE ROUGHLY 5 MINUTES LATER. BOTH DOORS WERE THEN CLOSED AND THE KEY WAS PUT INTO THE IGNITION. ONCE THE KEY WAS IN THE IGNITION, WE HEARD A VERY LOUD "BANG" NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. WE NOTICED THE DRIVER'S SIDE 1/3 OF THE POWER SLIDING REAR WINDOW WAS SHATTERED. WE EXITED THE VEHICLE TO INSPECT THE DAMAGE. NOTHING WAS PRESENT IN THE BED OF THE TRUCK TO CAUSE US TO BELIEVE SOMETHING HAD HIT IT. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION ONLINE AND A CERTIFIED MECHANICS OPINION, IT HAS COME TO OUR ATTENTION THAT THIS IS A "COMMON" ISSUE WITH FORD F-SERIES TRUCKS. THE REAR DEFROST MECHANISM BECOMES TOO HOT DURING REMOTE START AND CAUSES THE TEMPERED GLASS TO BECOME UNSTABLE AND SHATTER.

THE DESCRIPTION READS: "...AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SLIPPING UNEXPECTEDLY INTO FIRST GEAR, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING."."THE UNEXPECTED DOWNSHIFT CAN ALSO LOCK UP THE REAR TIRES, OR CAUSE THEM TO SKID." ALL OF THIS HAPPENED INCLUDING THE REAR WHEELS LOCKING UP, CAUSING A MOMENTARY LOSS OF CONTROL WHEN IT HAPPENED. THIS CONDITION IN 2011 AND 2012 F-150S RESULTED IN A RECALL. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHERE THE VEHICLE APPEARED TO SLIP INTO A LOWER GEAR. AT LOW TO NORMAL SPEED, THIS CAUSED WHEEL SPIN AND TIRE SCREECHING. IN ADDITION, THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED SLUGGISH UPON THE OCCURRENCE AND RESISTED A RESPONSE FROM THE ACCELERATOR. THESE OCCURRENCES ALL HAPPENED IN CITY STREET DRIVING AT LOW TO MODERATE SPEEDS WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION
I HEARD A LOUD POP WHILE DRIVING AND DISCOVERED ONE SECTION(DRIVER SIDE) OF MY BACK WINDOW WAS CRACKED. IT IS A POWERED WINDOW WITH DEFROST.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JOHN AMATO FORD (1015 MAIN ST, MUKWONAGO, WI 53149, (800) 606-3085) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A FAULTY CONNECTOR WIRE HARNESS WITH DIAGNOSTIC FAILURE CODES: AL3Z, 7G276, AND D. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,500. *TT
UPON ACCELERATION, GENERALLY FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE WILL, THUD, LOSE POWER AND CEASE TO ACCELERATE DESPITE PEDAL BEING PUSHED. IT ALSO TENDS TO BE ACCOMPANIED BY THE SPEEDOMETER JUMPING. NO WARNINGS OR MESSAGES ARE DISPLAYED IN THE VEHICLE. AFTER PRESSING THE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES AND NEARLY ROLLING TO A STOP, CONTROL OVER ACCELERATION WILL EVENTUALLY RESUME. THE LOSS OF CONTROL OVER ACCELERATION CAUSES A SAFETY RISK, ESPECIALLY WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC. THIS ISSUE DOES NOT OCCUR CONSISTENTLY, BUT WAS HAPPENING WITH SOME REGULARITY APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH AGO AS WELL.
1/26/17: IT WAS 45 DEGREES THIS MORNING SO I USED THE REMOTE START (FACTORY SUPPLIED ON KEY REMOTE) TO GET MY TRUCK RUNNING BEFORE LEAVING FOR WORK. AS I WALKED OUTSIDE (DID NOT TOUCH THE TRUCK), I HEARD A LOUD GUNSHOT. THINKING SOMETHING HAD FALLEN ON THE TRUCK I LOOKED UP AND IT WAS NOT PARKED UNDER ANYTHING. I WALKED AROUND THE TRUCK TO FIND THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE PANEL OF THE BACK WINDOW WAS SPIDERED. AGAIN, I WAS NOT DRIVING OR PARKED UNDER OR AROUND SOMETHING THAT COULD HAVE IMPACTED MY TRUCK/WINDOW.
TRANSMISSION DOWN SHIFTS ERRATICALLY AND SOMETIMES WILL NOT ENGAGE WHILE DOWNSHIFTING. TRYING TO SHIFT MANUALLY WHILE VEHICLE IS MOVING WILL NOT FIX THE ISSUE. TWICE THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE ENTERING TRAFFIC BUT BOTH TIMES I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER, TURN THE TRUCK OFF, PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN THE PARK POSITION AND RESTART THE TRUCK, FIXING THE PROBLEM. VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP TODAY FOR AN $800 REPAIR THAT IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY AND WAS TOLD THAT FORD HAS ISSUED A BULLETIN FOR THIS BUT WILL NOT ASSUME THE COST OF THE REPAIR.
