Rear camera stop working while driving in reverse
I was driving to work and when coming to the parking structure making a right hand turn my steering wheel locked up on me and on the dash Hill Descent Control Fault and Service AdvancedTrac came on the dash. I towed it home and the steering wheel is completely locked.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated while at a complete stop, the vehicle jerked forward, and attempted to accelerate independently while the brake pedal was depressed. Additionally, the engine was revving. The contact stated that upon slamming on the brake pedal, the vehicle responded as needed while stopped. The contact stated that while almost coming to a stop and then accelerating, the vehicle jerked, accelerated unintendedly, then responded as needed. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer and was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V444000 (Power Train); and the failure ceased temporarily. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that a fee would be charged for a diagnostic test and for the repair. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.
Warning light is staying on stating the engine is out of time. We have had the vehicle assessed by a licensed mechanic to obtain this information. No issues have been detected other than the light coming on and the mechanic pricing the repairs.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V444000 (Power Train); however, the repair failed to prevent a failure from occurring. The contact stated that 9 months after the recall repair was completed, while accelerating from a stop, the RPM increased; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while the accelerator pedal was depressed. The contact pulled over into a parking lot, and the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed; however, no fault codes were retrieved. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired due to cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
As is the way with a lot of f150s, the leadframe control module in my automatic transmission failed, causing me to suddenly go into limp mode on [XXX] ; I had no prior warning until the dash went blank and the wrench symbol appeared. I was able to get the truck completely off the roadway and had to wait for a tow. As it was later in the afternoon I had the truck towed to my house and contacted my normal repair facility in the morning. I had the truck towed to the repair facility that day. They diagnosed the leadframe failure, ordered the parts from Ford and I had my truck back within a few days. This part has been a known issue in these F150s - I had the software update "recall" performed on my truck September 2024 and it still happened to me. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
First occurrence with my F-150 STX driving home from work. Started my truck and got a block and a half away and the truck stopped accelerating and completely shut off. All the lights and engine was off. I drifted to the side of the road to avoid traffic causing a traffic pile up and confusion. Being overwhelmed I waited for about 20 minutes then started it and drove home. No lights or check engine lamps on. Having a couple days of normal driving and normal function. I drove again but this time I was going into the freeway halfway up the onramp the truck dies again! This time making it completely unsafe and potentially fatal. I drifted as far as I could to the side as I was going up hill onto the freeway. More cars and extremely different speeds made this moment very concerning . Upon delivery to the dealership and having them offer expensive fuel pump replacements and flushes. I could only afford the $600 fuel pump wake up and having no information about any defects or recalls. I feel like a guinea pig to ideas of half ass fixes.
On [XXX], about 20 minutes into my 30-minute commute, while driving at highway speed, my trucks transmission suddenly downshifted dramatically, jerking and throwing me forward in my seat and causing the truck to slow down so abruptly that I was almost rear ended, putting drivers around and behind me at risk of high-speed collisions. Less than 5 minutes later it happened a second time. This is the exact same abrupt transmission downshift issue that happened to me in this vehicle a few times before in early 2024. I received a Safety Recall notice on this known issue about a week after the first incident in 2024. I took my vehicle into the AutoNation Ford Dealer in Littleton, Colorado immediately after I received that notice and they supposedly 'fixed' the issue under the recall 24S37. Obviously, the issue has not been resolved. I am asking for a deeper look into the safety issue as I am sure I am not the only one this is happening to. I am also concerned that there were no warning lamps or messages that would indicate a problem that needed to be addressed! The truck is currently back at the AutoNation Ford Dealer in Littleton and is available for inspection. They are telling me there is no current recall for this issue. How can that be true if it’s the exact same problem and their Safety Recall ‘repair’ didn’t work? I believe the repair was just a software patch, but I can’t be sure. Can you please help me find out what the recall (24S37) was supposed to fix and why it didn’t fix the problem? Their suggestion now is to replace the Valve Body with a cost of $2,554.63 (in addition to a $219.95 diagnostic fee). My concern is that even this expensive repair might not actually solve the problem, and I am truly afraid to drive this vehicle. The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted from the 6th to 2nd gear, and the rear wheels locked up, causing the vehicle to slide to a stop. The vehicle then stalled but was restarted after several attempts. The contact stated that once the vehicle was restarted, there was a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment with smoke exiting from the tailpipe. The vehicle was taken to the residence, where a handheld diagnostic machine retrieved undisclosed codes. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V444000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 217,000.
My vehicle shows that it has an electrical connection with the electronic power steering showing a U3000:49-8B code
I received a recall notice on my F150 and took it to the dealership for repair even though I have not had any check engine lights or codes on my vehicle. 20 days After taking my vehicle to the ford dealership for the 24S37 recall on the OSS while driving on a two lane back road my truck experienced a hard downshift immediately followed by a check engine light. I lost all acceleration and had to coast to a safe place to pull over. I connected a code reader to the vehicle and immediately got a P0721 code for output speed sensor. I had the truck towed to the dealership and was told they drove it and could not get it to repeat the issue. The dealership only drove 2.9 miles while the had the vehicle for 5 days. I picked up the truck and drove 122 miles before the truck repeated the same issue only this time I was on the highway and luckily was able to exit the highway safely. I connected a code reader to the truck again and received a code for P0720 for the output speed sensor. The software update for this recall that FORD has pushed out as a repair has done nothing but cause even more substantial problems and safety concerns. I have reached out to Ford (at a manufacturer level) and have received absolutely no assistance from them.
I received a recall (Safety recall notice 24S37 . NHTSA Recall 24v444 ) notice in the mail. I scheduled with the dealership to have the recall taken care of. When the recall issue was "fixed", I picked up my 2014 Ford f150 stx 3.7L truck and immediately noticed it was running vwry rough and the transmission felt like it was slipping. The truck ran great before going in for the recall issue and had even been fully serviced and tuned up two weeks prior. I called the Ford dealership and explained to them. The truck then would not start but it did continue to crank over. I plugged my computer to it and no codes. I called the dealership back and was told to have it towed (at my expense) back to the dealership so they could fix it and if the issue was under due to the recall service, which it was, I would be reimbursed the money for the tow and the money they charged for a diagnostics. They also found nothing wrong and couldn't start the truck. They recommended I allow them to perform work to it claiming the spark plugs showed that the engine was flooded but could tell they were new and correctly gapped. After another $700 (for 6 spark plugs to be replaced) it did not fix the issue and they're not sure what to do. I've called the dealership, spoke with the service manager Bill and the GM Bob. They claim there is nothing they can do. I have called Ford Motor customer service twice with no help to fixing the problem. I too my perfectly running truck in for a safety recall and received a broken truck Back. After over $1,200 out of pocket, I still have no truck and no answers and am stuck at the mercy of the dealership.
The vehicle had a complete loss of control of the power steering. Thankfully, it happened in the driveway and not on the highway. The message said Power Steering Assist Fault. Upon doing some research, I found that the NHTSA issued a recall in the past on some of the same vehicles in that model year (14V316000). We were hoping that this vehicle could added to that recall, due to the fact that it is a known issues for this particular model year. Thank you.
Truck started downshifting to 2nd gear at highway speeds, submitted claim, (no recall) Local Ford said no problem with my transmission. I replaced the leadframe in transmission. This fixed the problem. Ford came out with recall, Ford mobile came out and updated software for transmission. Since software update, Started down shifting again, sticking in 5th gear, or sticking in 3rd gear. Wrench came on a few times and engine light randomly comes on and clears too. I have pictures of 5th gear going slow, the wrench appearing and engine toruble light on. See attached pictures.
After recall 24S37 was performed on my Ford F-150 to address potential sudden downshifting to first gear, my truck began experiencing serious transmission issues that had never occurred prior. The recall required PCM reprogramming, and immediately afterward, the vehicle started hard shifting and unexpectedly downshifting at highway speeds (one example 5th to 3rd gear and also while passing or decelerating). This was alarming and unsafe. Before this recall, the transmission operated perfectly with no symptoms, warning lights, or signs of malfunction. I returned the truck to the Ford dealership that performed the recall. Their road test confirmed the issue, and they diagnosed it as damage to the overdrive clutch. However, they stated the damage was “likely present before” the recall work—despite no prior symptoms—and recommended full transmission replacement at a cost of nearly $10,000, which I declined. The issue clearly began immediately after Ford’s recall remedy and fits the exact risk the recall was supposed to prevent. The vehicle is available for inspection. I believe the recall work either caused or triggered the failure and that Ford should be held accountable.
Brake pedal goes to floor. Feels like the brakes goes out sometimes.
When Braking steering wheel locked up and almost caused accident due to not being able to control vehicle with steering wheel.
Received safety recall notice 24S37/ NHTSA recall 24V444 for my 2014 F150. Recall appears to address a safety issue resulting in the pickup downshifting into 1st gear while driving. My pickup was doing this back in 2022. It sat at the dealer for 3 months because it was too dangerous to drive (or sell) and needed a new Lead Frame to correct the problem, but Ford was unable to supply this part. I ultimately had to take it to a transmission shop, where they installed an after market lead frame that fixed the problem at that time (for around $1200). At that time there was a recall for 2015 models and up, but not 2014 models. Recently my pickup began going into safe or limp mode while I was driving, with a big wrench icon appearing on the dash. My mechanic said the engine code indicated the transmission was not communicating with the engine, and that it appeared to be related to this recent recall. Dealership updated the PCM, but this did not fix the problem. Ultimately, had to get a new Lead Frame installed ($1400). Error codes P0721 and P0722 were found, which would seem to apply to the recall. Supposedly the dealership was told that the truck was too old (2014) and and the mileage was too high (102,000) to cover the repair (although, this is a fairly recent recall). Ford customer service told me that the recall only covered the update, not any repairs to fix the underlying problem. Ford will not reimburse me for any of these repairs, but they appear to be related to exactly what the recall was for. Curious what the NHTSA's opinion is. I believe that I put in a complaint with NHTSA for this issue when it first happened. Thanks for your time.
When driving 2014 Ford F-150 STX crew cab 4 door 4wd in either 2WD or 4WD at cruising speed on highway 55 mph to 65 mph either in cruise control or not with gas pedal steady the vehicle randomly drops from 6th gear to 3rd gear. I had the local Ford Dealer already perform the software update from the recall but it did not resolve the issue. After a few months of driving with this problem continuing I left the vehicle with the Ford Dealer to see if they could reproduce the problem. They claimed they never could reproduce the problem and that the vehicle never generated any fault codes.
Turned on rear window and heated mirror defrost. Rear window cracked loudly and broke in a spiderwebbed manner after about 10-15 minutes of the defrost being turned on. Tempered glass kept it from blowing completely out. May have caused injury if a passenger had been sitting in rear crew cab seat at the time. Spoke with Safelite auto glass repair, was told they see this frequently with F150 trucks and think there is a problem with defrost function not shutting off like it should, causing excessive heat to window which eventually breaks the glass.
Ford Motor Company issued a recall for my truck (the transmission could suddenly shift into neutral), stating that they needed to update the PCM, and my local dealership service center said they could send an employee out to fix it remotely. I had not experienced the shifting into neutral prior to the "fix". Less than a week later, as I was driving around 35mph, the speedometer dropped to 0 and the transmission stuck in 3rd gear. I waited until the next stop sign and turned off the engine and started it again and it went back to normal. The next day the same issue occurred. The speedometer would drop to 0 and the transmission would stick in whichever gear it was last in. This time is was 5th gear on a highway. I had to pull over and restart it 3 times before it resumed normal driving. I went back to the dealership and they said the electronic update wouldn't have caused the OSS to malfunction and that it was a coincidence that the exact issue I was having was the same as the cause and reason for the recall. I went to an independent Transmission mechanic to have the OSS replaced and it has now been over a month and the problem has not returned. I don't know if the cause of the OSS malfunctioning was a coincidence or if it was related to a faulty electronic update (like if the Ford mechanic didn't disconnect the battery or overloaded an electric charge when he updated the PCM). The warning sign of a wrench did appear each time the OSS would drop to 0. The check engine light went on the first time but not after that.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 55-60 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering function intermittently. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring intermittently while driving at various speeds and while the vehicle was idling. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a related recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.
We took our truck to the local Ford dealership in regards to recall 24S37. There were no issues with the truck before we took it in. They say it was repaired on 1/7. A couple of weeks later the truck gets stuck in 1st gear and the now and at the same time the speedometer shuts down. We have read that if the program update doesn't fix it then they need to replace the leadframe but now they are saying that will be $2000 for them to fix the issue.
Took vehicle to dealer for safety recall in reference to the transmission issue of downshifting to a lower gear while driving at highway speeds. Dealer did a software reprogram and indicated that would revolve the issue. Within six months I had encountered the same issue. I notified Ford corporate and they instructed me to take it in to diagnose the issue, to which I did. They notified me that the lead frame was defective and would need to be replaced. they indicated that I would be charged close to $1700.00 for the service. contacted Ford Corporate and they claimed that it was not part of the recall. My problem with this that the software reprograms did not resolve the recall issue. It is known that the lead frame had manufacturing faults.
My radiator cracked and was replaced by Firestone in Nashville, TN. Firestone Address 7644 Hwy 70 S Nashville, TN 37221 Immediately after a loud screeching sound began. Which intermittently turns into a metal on metal and chirping sound with mild vibration. Subsequently I left the vehicle with Firestone for 1 additional week after the repairs were completed, including a 5 point inspection which did not illustrate any additional problems or recommended repairs. They said they were unable to diagnose the issue without the store managers opinion who seemed to be on an indefinite leave of absence and no specific estimated time frame. Several months later I went back into the same location to talk about my concerns with a manger On 1/16/2025. The manager personally setup an appointment for 1/18/2025. 15 minutes before they closed for the day I called. They said they didn't have time to it and that they will not be able to tomorrow either. I cannot comprehend how a licensed shop can operate this way. They're not prioritizing revisiting their previous repairs which have caused an extreme burden on my ability to care for multiple kids with severe disabilities. I have been extremely flexible with them and cannot help but feel they're trying to avoid service to hide past mistakes they do not want to address.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the transmission was not functioning properly. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that corrosion had caused two holes underneath the sub frame of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 185,000.
On 1-15-2025, I filed a follow-up complaint number 11636086 regarding the random downshifting of my F150 from the 4th or 5th gear down to 2nd gear while accelerating to get on a roadway or highway. This defect was supposedly fixed at a Ford dealer per recall in July of 2024. As of this writing, my 2014 F150 is continuing to randomly downshift, and I have heard nothing from the NHTSA regarding this safety issue that the recall failed to correct. Ford tells me that the software update should have fixed the issue. Obviously, it did not. What recourse do I have? Please reply to the email address listed on both my original complaint and the second complaint listed above. Thank you.
On 7/8/2024 my 2014 F150 was part of Recall 24S37 6R80 to reprogram the Powertrain Control Module to correct the sudden downshifting at highway speed from either 5th or 6th gear to 2nd. The reprogram may have worked for a few weeks. The sudden downshift issue has returned and us getting worse. What recourse do I have with Ford? My truck is not safe to drive. Is Ford now required to replace the Control Module and Module housing in the transmission or am I now responsible for the several thousand dollar repair? Any assistance from the NHTSA will be appreciated.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while in reverse(R), the screen was black or displayed a blue screen. The failure impeded the driver's visibility, preventing the driver from safely operating the vehicle. The message "Rearview Camera Unavailable" was displayed during the failure. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V315000 (Back Over Prevention); however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 195,000.
had a recall on my truck to replace master brake master cylinder on October 2014, my truck lost braking power on [XXX] before I was able to leave my community almost resulted in me driving to a pond with toddler in the backseat. I was eventually able to bring truck to a full stop using extreme force to push brake to the floor. Upon discussion with Ford service representative, it is highly likely due to premature brake booster failure as a result of recalled brake cylinder. Upon further research on Kelly's Blue Book, it states that the brake booster should be replaced "as necessary" as a part of the master cylinder recall but was not in my case. this failure could have resulted in catastrophic failure ending 2 lives and Ford refuses to warrant the repair. The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V444000 (Power Train); however, the repair failed to prevent the failure from occurring shortly after the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
Rear glass shattered spontaneously. There are many reports of this issue over a wide range of model years and no acknowledgement from Ford. Vehicle was parked with engine running and rear defrost on, no prior damage to the rear window. The drivers side rear glass shattered suddenly with a loud bang and rained small glass slivers down on rear occupants. Was quoted $1080 by a glass installer for replacement. They said this is a common issue with these trucks.
Engine light but no issue

Just seen about recall of f150 shifting problem. On a recent trip my 2014 f150 did exactly that. While making an right turn onto a street as it shifted it jerked pretty bad, scared the heck out of me. as I drove it would not shift out of 3rd gear. I had to drive several miles before I could pull over, My display showed a wrench on the screen. I turned off the engine and let it cool down, started it again. The wrench icon did not come on. It seemed to drive normal after that. I'm not sure this problem is with this year as well. I have not had it looked at by any shop.
The contact's daughter owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle unexpectedly downshifted and failed to return to normal operation. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission valve body needed to be replaced. The dealer made the contact aware that the failure was associated to an undisclosed recall however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed the dealer statement. The failure mileage was approximately 140,700.
See attached document for complaint.
Bushing that connects transmission gear change that goes from the shifting lever to the transmission had the bushing at the shifting lever disintegrate. This caused the shifting cable to come loose from the shifting lever and therefore once the shifting lever was placed in Park, it was actually not in park. Repair is to replace the bushing in the shifting lever where it connects to the column shifting handle/lever. This could cause the truck to roll back into the street or other cars depending on where it was parked. Total time to repair was about 1/2 hour. Dealer did not have any parts to repair this bushing nor did they have any reports of recalls. This bushing looks very similar the bushing used in the Fusion recall.
It shifts weird but it’s still unsafe
Both rear doors would not open from the outside or inside. They were not locked. They just would not open using the handle inside, trying to pull up on the lock mechanism and unlocking and locking numerous times. The doors would still not open. A child and a dog were in the back seat. I could not access them from the doors had to bring them through the front of the vehicle, which was very difficult. Periodically one door will be OK to open, the next day the door will not open, may or may not depending on how the door feels like working that particular daynot open.
Steering wheel began erratic movement from right to left causing vehicle to swerve in a deadly fashion. Steering wheel continues to whip from right to left while sitting still on side of road. Vehicle cannot be safely driven at any speed without the risk of losing control.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle independently shifted gear. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the wheel speed sensor needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was serviced under an unknown NHTSA Campaign but, the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the shift sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
While driving at highway speed of 55mph, the vehicle went into limp mode. Large gear icon came on the dash, speedometer went out as well as mileage indicator. The vehicle lost almost all power and started to slow rapidly. Pressing all the way down on the gas made the truck go maybe 30mph as a guess. This was a very dangerous situation as there was no where to pull over and cars were coming up behind me quickly. I finally was able to get off an exit ramp and pull over. After restarting the vehicle it moved properly. I scanned the vehicle and received the output speed shaft sensor fault code P0721 and P0722. There is a recall for this problem, but since I proactively brought my truck into Ford in July, all they did was a reprogram instead of fixing the actual cause of this, which is the lead frame in the transmission. Had I waited to bring my truck in for recall until those codes were thrown they would have fixed it. So now I’m stuck with a dangerous vehicle unless I pay for something Ford knew was already a problem.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after the dealer had completed the recall repair under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V444000 (Power Train), the vehicle started to experience transmission shifting failures. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle and shifting to drive(D), the transmission was stuck in first gear. The contact stated that upon turning off and restarting the vehicle, the vehicle responded as needed; however, the failure recurred several times while driving, causing the contact to pull to the side of the road several times. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving 75 MPH, the vehicle jerked abnormally. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with transmission lead frame failure. The contact was charged a fee for the repair. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 141,000.
My truck is shifting funny at times just want it fixed it’s 2024 it’s been long enough I drive on the highway every day.the truck has two recalls seat hardware is faulty and transmission downshift problems recalls issued in 2017 and it’s 2024 just want it fixed I’m already stressed enough I’m sure you understand thanks have a blessed day

The contact stated that upon driving the vehicle from the dealer's parking lot, the vehicle experienced hard transmission shifts to low gear and to the higher gears. The was no warning light illuminated. Additionally, the engine revved significantly. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the failure was not caused by the recall remedy but could be related to the transmission. The vehicle was taken to Master Tech Auto Repair, where a transmission replacement was recommended. The transmission was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the vehicle was scanned with a code reader; however, no diagnostic trouble code was retrieved. The contact stated that the failure had progressively worsened. The contact stated that the vehicle was not experiencing a failure prior to the recall repair, and the recall remedy had failed to prevent the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The manufacturer also referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 101,000.
Ford recall 24S37, software update for the Powertrain Control Module. The dealer was unable to complete the recall notice update due to another problem causing the dealer to be unable to plug into the data link connector as it did not have power to it.. The dealer states that issue will be needed to be completed prior to their ability to finish the recall remedy. I do not believe I should have to incur the cost of that repair as I was told by the dealer. I called Ford Customer Service prior to this email also to no solution. In a nutshell, if I don't pay for a repair then the risk of a crash with my vehicle still exists. I ask that your department instruct Ford to authorized both repairs.
