SUDDEN LOSS OF BRAKING POWER, BRAKE PEDAL IS SOFT AND GOES TO THE FLOOR WITH LITTLE TO NO STOPPING POWER WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION OR STATIONARY.
DRIVING NORMALLY ON FOUR LANE DIVIDED STATE ROAD WHEN WARNINGS ABOUT VARIOUS SYSTEM FAILURES CAME UP ON DASH (TRACTION CONTROL, BRAKING, CHARGING SYSTEM). POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING FIRST THEN TRUCK SHUT DOWN. GOT JUMP STARTED THINKING BATTERY OR ALTERNATOR AND TRUCK DROVE NORMALLY FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN SAME SCENARIO REPEATED.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY BRAKE SYSTEM ALERT STARTED GOING OFF AND BRAKE ALERTS ON DASH, A MINUTE LATER I WENT TO BRAKE AND HAD NO BRAKES, I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY AND TO A PARKING LOT. I OPENED UP THE HOOD AND THERE WAS NO BRAKE FLUID, I BOUGHT MORE FLUID AND ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE 3 MORE BLOCKS AND ALL THE ALERTS WENT OFF AGAIN AND NO BRAKES, I PULLED OVER, CHECKED THE FLUID AND IT WAS GONE. THERE WAS NO SIGNS OF LEAKS AND ALL THE FLUID WENT INTO THE BOOSTER AND ENGINE, CAUSING A THICK CLOUD OF SMOKE. I WENT TO .CARPROBLEMZOO.COM/FORD/F-150/2016/BRAKE AND FOUND 65 PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. ARE WE WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO GET KILLED. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RECALL IS THERE ONE? I AM THE ONLY OWNER AND THE TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON IT. NO ACCIDENTS
DRIVING AT 35 MPH MY TRUCK GIVES ME A BRAKE FLUID LOW ERROR MESSAGE. I KEEP DRIVING ON TO THE HIGHWAY. AS I EXIT THE HIGHWAY I PRESS THE BRAKES AND NOTHING HAPPENS. THE BRAKES AREN'T ENGAGING. I COAST TO A STOP SINCE THERE'S NO TRAFFIC AND PULL OVER. TOWED TRUCK TO FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY TELL ME MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE BOOSTER HAVE MALFUNCTIONED. COST OF REPAIRS ARE $2100.
I STARTED MY TRUCK IN THE GARAGE AND WENT TO PUT IT INTO GEAR AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND A FLASHING BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON WITH A FLUID LOW SIGNAL. I CHECKED THE FLUID IT WAS LOW. I PUT MORE FLUID IN IT AND PUSHED THE PEDAL AGAIN GONE AGAIN. I CHECKED ALL BRAKE LINES UNDER THE TRUCK NOT A LEAK ANYWHERE. I'M ORDERING A NEW BOOSTER AND MASTER CYLINDER THE FLUID WENT INTO THE BOOSTER. I BELIEVE THIS WAS A RECALL IN THE 2013 -14 F150 BUT FORD TOLD ME THERE ISN'T A RECALL IN 2016??
FIRST TIME INWAS DRIVING IN TOWN, FLAT ROAD NO HILLS GOING ABOUT 35 ON A TURN, WHEN MY TRUCK JUST STOPPED ACCELERATING ABRUPTLY AND WAS BARELY CREEPING ALONG..MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS STARTING WITH HILL ASSIST CAME ON. I GOT TO SIDE OF ROAD SHUT TRUCK OFF AND RESTARTED INDICATORS CAME BACK, SO I STARTED AGAIN TO TAKE TO BROTHER IN LAWS HOUSE AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. CALLED DEALER THEY SAID TAKE IT OUT SEE IF CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS COME ON. I TAKE OFF ON HIGHWAY GOT TO ABOUT 45 ACCELERATING TO 55 AND AGAIN IS JUST STOPS ABRUPTLY, LIGHTS FLASH AGAIN, I HAVE NO POWER NO ACCELERATION, ONLY THIS TIME I HAVE TRAFFIC NEAR ME A SEMI ALMOST TOOK ME OUT BECAUSE THERE IS NO WARNING WHEN IT HAPPENS. CHECK ENGINE LIGH COMES ON. MY BROTHER IN LAW NOTICE THE TEMP GAUGE STAYED COLD AND TRANSMISSION TEMP WAS LOW, ALSO I WASN'T PULLING ANYTHING AT THE TIME SO TRANSMISSION WASN'T HOT. I BAUGHT TRUCK USED LESS THAN A YR AGO AND HAVE JUST OVER 40K MILES ON IT. I HAVE ONLY PULLED A POPUP CAMPER WITH IT SO FAR. NOTICED THIS SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR THIS TRUCK. WILL BE CONTACTING DEALER TODAY. I HAVE INCLUDED PHOTOS OF WARNING FLIGHTS THAT POP UP.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, WHEN THE LOW BRAKE FLUID LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER TO THE NEXT EXIT AND WENT TO A GAS STATION AND ADDED TWO BOTTLES OF BRAKE FLUID TO GET THE LEVEL ABOVE THE MINIMUM LINE. THE PEDAL PRESSURE WAS DECREASING WITH EACH USE AND I DROVE THE REST OF THE WAY TO WORK, ABOUT A 1/2 MILE. AFTER LETTING THE CAR SIT FOR 3 HOURS THE FLUID WAS GONE AND THERE WAS NO VISIBLE SIGHT OF FLUID ON THE GROUND. I ADDED MORE FLUID AND DID NOT DRIVE THE TRUCK, BUT 3 HOURS LATER THE FLUID WAS GONE AGAIN. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER, 1/2 MILE AWAY AND THE BRAKES WERE GONE AT THIS POINT. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE BRAKE BOOSTER ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE REPORT. THE MASTER AND BOOSTER WERE REPLACED AND THE TRUCK FUNCTIONS PROPERLY AGAIN. I KNOW THIS WAS AN ISSUE ON THE 2013-2014 F150S AND THERE WAS A RECALL, BUT THIS HAPPENED IN A 2016 F-150 WITH 37,000 MILES WHERE A FAILURE LIKE THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. I AM REPORTING THIS SINCE THERE COULD BE A SIMILAR FAILURE HAPPENING ON THE 2015+ F150S AS THE PREVIOUS GENERATION.
LUG NUTS SWELLED AND COULD NOT USE FACTORY PROVIDED WRENCH TO REMOVE THEM AFTER HAVING A FLAT. LEFT ME ON THE SIDE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY FOR AN EXTENDED TIME PERIOD
BRAKES SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING BECAME NEARLY UNUSABLE, BRAKE PEDAL SOFT AND TO THE FLOOR AND EXTREMELY LONG STOPPING DISTANCE. THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY A BRAKE WARNING LIGHT AND A "BRAKE FLUID LOW" WARNING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DISPLAY. DEALER REPORTS A MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER FAILURE AND LEAK OF BRAKE FLUID REQUIRING MASTER CYLINDER AND BOOSTER REPLACEMENT
WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AHEAD AT A STEADY 35 MPH ON A 2% DOWNGRADE, SMALL CITY, DOUBLE LANE, ONE-WAY, DEBRIS FREE STREET, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTED ABRUPTLY FROM 4TH GEAR TO 1ST GEAR. I DID NOT MAKE ANY GEAR SHIFT LEVER CHANGES NOR DID I CHANGE ANY OPTIONS SUCH AS PUSHING THE SPORT MODE, TOW MODE,LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL, HILL DESCENT OR TRACTION CONTROL BUTTONS. I WAS SEATED COMFORTABLY, BOTH HANDS ON THE STEERING WHEEL, SEAT BELT FULLY ENGAGED WITH NO IN-VEHICLE DISTRACTIONS SUCH AS A PHONE OR RADIO TUNING. THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY RACED TO 6400 RPM CAUSING THE REAR WHEELS TO START A SKID EVEN THOUGH THE ROAD SURFACE WAS DRY AND FREE OF ANY DEBRIS. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 4 SECONDS I REALIZED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FORCIBLY, ON ITS OWN, SHIFTED INTO 1ST GEAR, SO I PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL. THE DASH MOUNTED GEAR INDICATOR SHOWED 4TH GEAR DURING THIS ALTERCATION WHICH MADE IT HARDER TO KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON UNTIL I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL. ALTHOUGH IT TOOK ANOTHER 5 SECONDS FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO RESPOND FULLY TO THIS INPUT, IT FINALLY WENT INTO NEUTRAL. SHORTLY THEREAFTER THE REAR WHEELS WENT INTO COAST MODE. I WAS ABLE TO NARROWLY AVOID COLLIDING WITH THE VEHICLES IN THE LEFT LANE BECAUSE OF MY QUICK CORRECTIVE ACTION OF PUTTING THE TRANSMISSION GEAR SELECTOR INTO NEUTRAL. I'VE NOT HAD THIS DANGEROUS SELF-SHIFTING TRANSMISSION TO 1ST GEAR AT HIGHWAY SPEED OCCUR BUT THE ONE TIME ON SEPTEMBER 19, 2019, BUT IT DOES STILL CONCERN ME. MY TRUCK HAD APPROXIMATELY ODOMETER 32,000 MILES AT THE TIME OF THIS OCCURRENCE. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW WITH 16 MILES AND HAVE NOT MODIFIED OR POURED ANY ADDITIVES INTO THE TRANSMISSION. MY TRUCK HAS NOT BEEN ABUSED OR TOWED. I SINCERELY HOPE THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN TO ANY OTHER 2016 F150 TRUCK OWNERS, BUT PERHAPS, UNFORTUNATELY IT MAY HAVE. I ALSO HOPE THIS HELPS IN MAYBE FINDING A FIX SHOULD THERE NEED TO BE ONE. *TR
INTERMITTENTLY WHILE TOWING, AFTER DRIVING SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES OF NON STOP HIGHWAY DRIVING, THE ENGINE WILL KILL AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY. WHEN I RESTART IT BY TURNING THE KEY, IT WILL KILL AGAIN AS SOON AS I PUT IT IN DRIVE. THIS WILL HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE I GET THE ENGINE TO KEEP RUNNING. THIS HAPPENS ONLY IN THE TOW/HAUL MODE. I HAVE BEEN TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE TO DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES WITH COMPLAINT OF HEARING RATTLING UNDER VEHICLE AND IN STEERING COLUMN ALONG WITH NOISE FROM RIGHT FRONT BRAKE AREA. ALSO WITH COMPLAINTS OF VEHICLES WANDERING LEFT AND RIGHT ON HIGHWAY REGARDLESS OF ROAD CROWN. HAVE ASKED SPECIFICALLY TO CHECK THE ELECTRIC STEERING TO ENSURE NOT FAULTY. ALL THESE COMPLAINTS WHILE STILL UNDER ORIGINAL WARRANTY. TODAY, TWO WEEKS AFTER LAST VISIT, STEERING LOCKS UP WHILE DRIVING AND I CANNOT TURN THE VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ON MY PROPERTY GOING SLOW AND WAS ABLE TO STOP SAFELY. I WAS DRIVING HOME AND DROVE 30 MILES ON THE INTERSTATE DOING 70MPH. GLAD THE STEERING DID NOT FREEZE THEN. SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN RESTARTED IT AND GOT THE 'STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED' ON THE CLUSTER ALONG WITH A BUNCH OF OTHER SYMBOLS. THE SYNC SCREEN CAME UP AND FROZE AND COULD NOT BE CLEARED NOR WAS IT RESPONSIVE TO ANY OTHER SELECTIONS ON SCREEN. I THINK THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE WITH EITHER THE ELECTRIC STEERING, A SENSOR OR POSSIBLE LOW OR INTERRUPTED VOLTAGE. THIS VEHICLE HAS NO VOLTAGE GAUGE FOR BATTERY NOR WAS THERE ANY INDICATOR THAT WARNED OF A LOW VOLTAGE ISSUE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN. IS NHTSA WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO BE KILLED WITH THIS PROBLEM BEFORE IT IS INVESTIGATED? I AM WAITING UNTIL MONDAY WHEN DEALER OPENS TO HAVE THEM COME GET THIS VEHICLE. I AM AFRAID TO EVEN ATTEMPT TO DO ANYTHING TO IT TO DRIVE IT TO DEALER FOR SERVICE. I AM UPLOADING THE LATEST SERVICE INVOICE FOR THIS ISSUE. DEALER HAS CONSISTENTLY STATED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG.
WHILE DRIVING AN ALARM STARTING BEEPING AND "LOW BRAKE FLUID" FLASHED ON THE DASHBOARD. WHEN I WENT TO STOP IN A PARKING LOT, THE BRAKES WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE TRUCK ROLLED TO A STOP. WE IMMEDIATELY PUT BRAKE FLUID INTO THE RESERVOIR AND IT DISAPPEARED. NO PUDDLES UNDER TRUCK OR LIQUID ON THE TIRES.
HILL DESCENT CONTROL FAULT/ SERVICE ADVANCETRAC WARNING SUDDENLY TURNED ON. ALTERNATED W SERVICE LIGHT. BUT I WAS JUST DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON A 70 DEGREE DAY ON A DRY PAVED ROAD DECELERATING FROM A 40MPH ZONE TO A 30 MPH ZONE UP A SLIGHT INCLINE. I WASN'T USING HILL DESCENT AND TRACTION WAS FINE. THE DISTURBING PART WAS THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY RAN ROUGH AND HAD NO POWER. I COULD NOT GET IT TO RUN WELL ENOUGH PULL IT OVER OUT OF THE TRAFFIC LANE. AN ON OFF CYCLE RETURNED FUNCTION FOR A FEW SECONDS AND I GOT AROUND THE CORNER BEFORE THE FAULT OCCURRED AGAIN. WITH NO HILLS THE LAST BLOCK I GOT TO MY DRIVEWAY WHERE A LONGER OFF PERIOD RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO FUNCTION. THIS TYPE OF SUDDEN POWER LOSS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.
THE MOONROOF IN OUR F150 WON'T OPEN OR COMPLETELY CLOSE. THE VENT OPTION IN THE MOONROOF OPENS A FRACTION OF THE AMOUNT IT HAS OPENED PREVIOUSLY. BASED ON MY RESEARCH IT'S A DESIGN ISSUE WITH THE TRACK. SINCE THE MOONROOF WON'T CLOSE COMPLETELY THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF WATER LEAKING INTO THE CAB. THE MOONROOF IS RARELY USED. WE ATTEMPTED TO OPEN IT AND DO SOME BASIC TROUBLESHOOTING (TO AT LEAST GET IT TO CLOSE COMPLETELY) WHILE SITTING IDLE IN THE DRIVEWAY. WHEN I CONTACTED MY FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT THERE WERE NO APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE FOR THE NEXT WEEK.
TRUCK EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE SENSOR FAILURES OVER SEVERAL MONTHS THAT RESET. FAILURES INCLUDE CAR STALLING IN INTERSECTION, BLIND SPOT MONITORING, BACK UP SENSORS, CAR SHUTTING OFF AND TURNING BACK ON ON ITS OWN. CAR HAD TO BE POWERED DOWN AND SHUT OFF FOR 30 SECONDS BEFORE BEING ALLOWED TO RESTART. MOST RECENT FAILURE RESULTED IN TRUCK HORN GOING OFF AS WELL AS CAR TURNING OFF WHILE GOING 35-40 MPH THEN RESTARTING ON ITS OWN - CAR SURGED FORWARD AFTER IT RESTARTED ITSELF. AT THE SAME TIME HAZARDS COMING ON, DOORS UNLOCKING AND LOCKING AND REAR TAILGATE OPENING. AFTER BRINGING CAR TO A COMPLETE STOP, SHUT OFF CAR AND IT TURNED ITSELF BACK ON (HORN WENT OFF, HAZARDS WENT ON, DOORS UNLOCKED AND LOCKED, AND REAR TAIL GATE RELEASED). TOWED TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM.
ON 7 SEPTEMBER 2019 WE RETURNED FROM A FAMILY TRIP OF 9 DAYS. DURING THIS TIME THE F-150 WAS SITTING IN THE GARAGE THE WHOLE TIME. WHEN WE RETURNED I WENT TO BACK THE TRUCK OUT OF THE GARAGE AND WHEN I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL I HAD NO BRAKES. SHORTLY NOTICING THAT THERE WERE NO BRAKES THE LOW BRAKE FLUID INDICATOR CAME ON. I CHECKED THE RESERVOIR AND INDEED THE LEVEL WAS REALLY LOW, WHEN IT WAS FULL BEFORE WE LEFT ON THE TRIP. THERE WERE NO POOLS OR PUDDLES OF FLUID ANYWHERE. ON 10 SEPT, I REFILLED THE RESERVOIR WITH BRAKE FLUID. WHILE REMAINING IN THE DRIVEWAY, I PUMPED THE BRAKES. THE BREAK PEDAL CONSISTENTLY WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO BREAKING POWER. AFTER SEVERAL PUMPS OF THE BREAKS THE LOW FLUID LEVEL INDICATOR CAME BACK ON. I CHECKED TO SEE THE LEVEL AND INDEED AGAIN IT WAS BELOW THE MINIMUM MARKER. AND AGAIN THERE IS NO INDICATION OF LEAKING ANYWHERE. THERE ARE NO POOLS OF FLUID ANYWHERE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT NOR UNDER THE VEHICLE. I PLAN TO TAKE THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. SOME MOTION WAS USED TO VERIFY IF THE BREAKS WERE WORKING. ALL OF THIS OCCURRED IN THE GARAGE OR ON THE DRIVEWAY OF THE HOUSE.
BOUGHT THE TRUCK A YEAR AND A HALF AGO THE ENGINE HAS BLOWN AND NOW THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER IS WENT OUT PROBABLY BE THE BRAKE BOOSTER NEXT THEY SHOULD BE RELIABLE FOR THIS I'M 100 MILES OVER MY WARRANTY AND THEY WERE STILL ON FIX IT
ALL STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS/BUTTONS BECAME UNRESPONSIVE.
DRIVING ON INTERSTATE WHEN I HEARD A SOUND LIKE A GUNSHOT AND FOUND MY REAR WINDOW SHATTERED. CENTER SLIDE WAS COMPLETELY GONE.
LOW BRAKE FLUID LIGHT CAME ON. WAS ABLE TO GET TO PARKING LOT. WHEN I WENT TO DRIVE THE TRUCK A FEW HOURS LATER IT HAD ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKES!!! HAD I DRIVEN ANY FURTHER I WOULD HAVE SURELY CRASHED AND DIED SINCE I WAS ON A HIGHWAY. NO FLUID WAS LEAKING. HAD TO TOW TO DEALERSHIP. NEED TO RECALL THE 2016'S TOO.
DRIVING IN RESIDENTIAL TYPE AREA, DOWN HILL. BREAK WARNING CAME ON (40MPH). TRIED TO STOP BUT PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. I SAID TO MY FAMILY TO HOLD ON WE HAVE NO BREAKS AND WE'RE APPROACHING A STOPED CAR MAKING A LEFT. AS THEY WERE SCREAMING IN FEAR I STEPPED ON THE EMERGENCY BREAK AND DOWN SHIFTED TO FIRST. WE ARE LUCKY I KNEW WHAT TO DO. ANOTHER FAMILY MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY. THE FORD DEALER SAID THE MASTER CYLINDER IS LEAKING THROUGH. 2016 FORD F-150 3.5 ECOBOOST
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION MERGING ON TO INTERSTATE I-26 AT 60 MPH DURING AFTERNOON RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC IN CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA, WHEN IT UNEXPECTLY AND WITHOUT WARNING DOWN SHIFTED FROM HIGH GEAR TO LOW GEAR WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE HAS 66K MILES ON IT. CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TO COMPLAIN AND WAS REFERED TO DEALER. NO RESOLUTION.

THE FIRST TIME I WENT TO USE MY SUNROOF THE TRACK BROKE NOW MY WINDOW IS STUCK UP AND SUNROOF DOES NOT WORK. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY BRAKE SYSTEM ALERT STARTED GOING OFF AND BRAKE ALERTS ON DASH, A MINUTE LATER I WENT TO BRAKE AND HAD NO BRAKES, I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY AND TO A PARKING LOT. I OPENED UP THE HOOD AND THERE WAS NO BRAKE FLUID, I BOUGHT MORE FLUID AND ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE 3 MORE BLOCKS AND ALL THE ALERTS WENT OFF AGAIN AND NO BRAKES, I GOT PULLED OVER, CHECKED THE FLUID AND IT WAS GONE. THERE WAS NO SIGNS OF LEAKS AND ALL THE FLUID WENT INTO THE BOOSTER AND ENGINE, CAUSING A THICK CLOUD OF SMOKE I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND IT WAS TAKEN TO A FORD DEALER. THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED BECAUSE I WAS JUST OVER THE WARRANTY PERIOD. IT IS COSTING ME OVER $800. I AM VERY LUCKY IT WASN'T A BAD ACCIDENT. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. ALL THE FLUID WENT INTO THE BOOSTER AND INTO THE ENGINE. THE FORD DEALER WILL HAVE ALL THE INFORMATION AND ARE REPAIRING IT NOW. I COULD ADD IT LATER IF NEEDED.

I SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND A FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE LETTER FROM 2016-2017 ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE WITH AN EXPIRATION NOTICE OF SEPTEMBER 2017. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED IN DECEMBER 2016 AND WAS NEVER SENT ANY NOTICE. I FIND IT INCREDIBLE THAT FORD KNOWS ABOUT A DEFECT THAT CAUSES A VEHICLE TO LOSE POWER SUDDENLY, AND ADDRESSES IT WITH THIS BANDAID LEVEL OF SERVICE. IT IS A SIMPLE AND INEXPENSIVE FIX. DROVE 22 MILES TO DEWEY FORD IN ANKENY, IOWA TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED AND THEY ASKED IF ANY FAULT LIGHTS WERE STILL ON AND I SAID NO AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM WITHOUT A FAULT LIGHT BEING ON. THEY SAID IT COULD BE WATER IN THE FUEL AND SUGGESTED A COUPLE CANS OF SEA FOAM AND TO TOP FUEL OFF WITH PREMIUM/NO ALCOHOL. DID THAT, DROVE AN ADDITIONAL 22 MILES WITH OUT ANY PROBLEMS. RESEARCHED SIMILAR PROBLEMS BY OTHERS AND ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY CAME UP. WILL UPDATE IF I HAVE ANOTHER INCIDENT.

DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, INSPECTION OF THE MASTER CYLINDER DOES NOT READILY LEAD TO INDICATION OF POTENTIAL FAILURE OR NEED FOR REPLACEMENT. THIS FAILURE COULD BE CATASTROPHIC UNDER THE RIGHT CONDITIONS IF PROPER OPERATOR CONTROL IS NOT FOLLOWED - LOWER SPEED BY REDUCING GEARING AND USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKES. THE REPLACEMENTS ARE OEM FACTORY PARTS; POSSIBLY THE SAME MANUFACTURE AS THAT REPLACED WHICH COULD BE POTENTIAL FOR FUTURE FAILURE (THIS COULD NOT BE CLARIFIED BY THE FORD SHOP AT THE TIME OF THE WORK)! THE SECOND FORD REP MADE A CASE # CAS22180343, WAS VERY HELPFUL AND THE REP SAID FORD WILL MAKE IT RIGHT. THIS REMAINS TO BE SEEN. MEANWHILE I'M WITHOUT A VEHICLE. VISUAL CHECK SHOWS FLUID AGAIN HAS EMPTIED AS DESCRIBED ABOVE. VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN MOVED. A VISUAL TRACE OF ALL BRAKE LINES SHOWS NO EXTERNAL LEAKAGE ALONG LENGTH OF THE LINES NOR AT ANY BRAKE COMPONENT. FLUID IS OBVIOUSLY BEING DRAWN INTO THE VACUUM BOOST RESERVOIR. VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN ALTERED IN ANY WAY FROM DATE OF PURCHASE. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE WITH A HIGH PROBABILITY OF LOSS OR LIFE AND/OR SEVERE INJURY TO PASSENGERS AND/OR COLLISION WITH OTHER VEHICLES OR OBJECTS DUE TO THIS SUDDEN, TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. THIS IS A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE MASTER CYLINDER SYSTEM THAT PRODUCES A FAILURE OF THE REDUNDANT BRAKING ARRANGEMENT (I.E. SEPARATE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE SYSTEMS). THIS APPEARS FROM A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH OF OTHER COMPLAINTS TO BECOMING A KNOWN PROBLEM. PROMPT ACTION IS URGED BY NHTSA TO INITIATE A RECALL TO CORRECT THESE PROBLEM FOR OBVIOUS SAFETY REASONS.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND VEHICLE WAS FUNCTIONING NORMALLY. UNEXPECTEDLY THE "LOW BRAKE FLUID" WARNING APPEARED. APPROXIMATELY 1 TO 2 MINUTES LATER I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE FIRST TIME I PRESSED IT SLOWED THE VEHICLE SLIGHTLY. I IPRESSED ON THE BRAKE AGAIN AND IT DID NOT REGISTER. IT WAS TERRIFYING AND I FELT FORTUNATE TO BE ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT COLLISION. THIS HAPPENED ON A MAJOR CITY STREET MOVING ABOUT 40 MPH.
I TURNED ON THE REAR DEFROSTER & THE CABIN STARTED SMOKING. I PULL OVER TO GET OUT TO BREATHE, ONE MINUTE LATER THE BACK WINDSHIELD SHATTERS COMPLETELY.
AFTER 71K MILES, THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDS REPLACED DUE TO BRAKE FLUID INTERNAL LEAKING TO THE BRAKE BOOSTERS. LOST ALL CONTROL OF BRAKING POWER. $1100 REPAIR TO REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE BOOSTERS. THIS HAPPENED ON 7/6/2019 WHILE DRIVING HOME. THE LOW BRAKE FLUID LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING AND NOTICED SUBSTANTIAL LOSS IN BRAKING POWER AND HAD TO PUSH BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN TO SLOW THE TRUCK TO A STOP AT STOP SIGN.
